Kāhu Youth Trust is thrilled to present this year’s Skate Jam!

This exciting community event welcomes all ages to come together and celebrate everything skateboarding. Whether you’re a seasoned skater or just starting out, there’s something for everyone. It’s a fantastic way to spend time with friends, meet new people, and be part of a supportive and vibrant skate community. Skating isn’t just about having fun - it’s a great way to stay active, build confidence and resilience - trying new tricks and getting back up again!

This family-friendly event features a multi-event skateboarding competition where kids, teens, and adults can showcase their skills or simply enjoy the thrill of watching others.

Soprano Isobel Topham has had rich experience on the stage as chorister, entertainer and soloist. Ayla Biner-McGrath is a student of law and classical performance at the University of Otago and her performances on clarinet have seen her in orchestras, competitions and also as a soloist. Both Isobel and Ayla will be accompanied by recent Honours graduate and pianist Cameron Monteath, who’s no stranger to choir audiences.

WAI Wānaka invites the community to roll up their sleeves this weekend and take part in a clean-up event at Scott’s Beach (Lake Hāwea) on Sunday, 17 November from 10.00am to 12.00pm. A great opportunity for locals and visitors alike to come together, connect, and help protect the beauty and health of Lake Hāwea. Kai will be generously provided by the Hāwea Store & Kitchen.

Rubbish collected during the event will be sorted and recorded into the Litter Intelligence database, a nationwide citizen science initiative by Sustainable Coastlines.

“This will be our rst beach clean-up event along Lake Hāwea. We’re excited to come together, get outside and take action together,” says Jaylene of WAI Wānaka.

All are welcome to join in on the fun. Volunteers are encouraged to dress for the weather and bring their own water bottle and gloves. Parking is available on Scott’s Beach Road.

Cup Libraries Over owing with Collaborative Community Spirit

Wheels at Wanaka returns to Three Parks in Easter 2025, and in addition to being Australasia’s biggest all-vehicle show, it’s also set to be the largest event in the region to support a new environmentally friendly initiative.

Around 50,000 patrons are expected through the gates from April 18 to 20, and in an e ort to reduce waste, two innovative cup libraries have been built by the MenShed team at Wanaka Community Workshop using recycled and donated materials from local construction projects.

The libraries will house 200 reusable co ee cups and will be available throughout the three-day event for attendees to borrow and return. This initiative helps reduce the need for single-use disposable cups, supporting waste reduction e orts at one of the region’s largest events.

In addition to a wide range of other volunteer roles available, the event is seeking Green Team applications to help manage cup circulation throughout the event. This collaborative e ort between Wheels at Wanaka organisers, the MenShed team and event volunteers re ects a community wide commitment to waste reduction, highlighting how innovation and teamwork can make a lasting impact.
