LABOUR WEEKEND ART EXHIBITION

The Wānaka Arts Labour Weekend Exhibition begins tomorrow, inviting you to celebrate the talent of our creative community and the event's 45th anniversary. With 150 artists exhibiting, including local favourites and those from as far away as Christchurch, Wellington, and Auckland, the four day event at the Lake Wānaka Centre showcases a diverse range of artworks, including paintings, photography, ceramic arts, woodcraft, fibre art, and much more. Working artists will be creating art live on site throughout the weekend, including weaving and sculpture by Jasmine Clark, watercolour by Dave Attwell, vintage stamp collage by Rana Odell, and mixed media by Stone Maka, who uses smoke residue and spiderwebs. Guest artists are Susie Ruddenklau (acrylic and watercolour), Cuba Pavlovich (acrylic, oil and charcoal), and Ben Reid (contemporary printmaking), plus this year’s Wānaka Arts artist-in-residence, Peregrin Hyde from

Wellington, who will give a demonstration of his microscopic photography on Saturday morning at 10.30am. Bring something along to place under the microscope!

Don’t miss the festive opening night starting 5.00pm Thursday 24 October, for a first look at the exhibiting pieces, drinks, canapés, art awards and live music from the Dirty Money Duo. Tickets are available at the door for $30, or in advance via Humanitix. Opening night tickets grant entry throughout the rest of the weekend, which is otherwise $7 at the door Friday, Saturday, and Sunday 9.00am - 5.00pm. As the cornerstone event of the year for Wānaka Arts, the exhibition puts the spotlight on our vibrant local arts scene, while raising funds towards youth scholarships, town murals, residencies, emerging artist exhibitions, and other arts events throughout the year.

Aspiring Rotary are organising a rare opportunity to be able to walk through one of NZ’s biggest private vehicle museumsthe Wheels at Wānaka Private Vehicle Museum.

Over 300 vintage tractors and earthmoving equipment, numerous rare and collectable vintage and classic cars and trucks are on display. Some vehicles date back to the very early 1900s. There is also an exclusive photography exhibition evening by the talented Sampford Cathie Photo + Video (from 6.30pm on Saturday evening), where you get to enjoy bubbles and canapés, listen to talented speakers, and have a look at the photos spread around the museum. The events are taking place on Labour Weekend (26 and 27 October) at 135 Ballantyne Road, Wanaka (Central Machine Hire – large sheds out the back).

All proceeds from ticket sales are going to Aspiring Rotary, which will be going back into our local community.

Come and join us for the annual Aspiring Beginnings’ Spring gala. The gala is a fun lled, family centred morning to help raise money for our community owned, not for pro t ECE centre.

Throughout the morning there will be lots of activities including a bouncy castle, face painting, live music, silent auction and ra e. There will also be stalls selling second hand preschool aged clothing, plants and baked goods, as well as much more!

We are currently raising money to refresh the outdoor space in order to continue to support our tamariki on their learning journey. All community support is very appreciated by the centre, which we know has played (and will continue to play) such an important role for so many families in Wanaka over the years.
