CHRISTMAS CHEER COMES TO LAKE HAWEA

The Hawea Christmas Wonderland is back once more this holiday season!

This year's theme, 'A Storybook Christmas', promises to bring your favourite holiday stories to life. Featuring Santa, the Grinch, Elves and more, there will be a mix of new stories and old favourites, narrated through captivating displays. Organised by head elves Barbara Mackenzie and Elizabeth Horrell, this year marks the sixth consecutive year of the event, and it has become a cherished tradition in the community. With festive displays and special visits from Santa on the weekends, the Hawea Christmas Wonderland is a wonderful way to kick off your holiday celebrations.

Open from December 7 to 15, the Christmas

Wonderland will be open from 2.00 to 5.00pm on weekdays and from 10.00am to 4.00pm on weekends. Tickets are $10 for adults, $2.50 for children, and $20 for families (children under 5 are free), and can be purchased online or at the door. All proceeds from the event support the Lake Hawea Community Centre.

Everyone CAN Make a Di erence with a Donation

Community Link has launched its ‘Everyone CAN make a di erence!’ Christmas FoodBank campaign to support families in the Upper Clutha.

Partnering with New World Three Parks, the initiative aims to make sure that every local family can truly celebrate Christmas, especially after a challenging year for many.

The Everyone CAN campaign is running until December 22 and encourages shoppers at New World Three Parks to donate at the checkout or purchase some extra pantry staples like canned goods, pasta, rice, tea, and toiletries that can left in specially marked trolleys inside the store. Every contribution, big or small, helps make a di erence.

In addition, the Community Link Christmas Tree is up at The Wānaka Community Hub where we welcome donations of non-perishable items for those in need.

This rally we will be hosting some easy and fun games for you and your horse. These include the spud ‘n’ spoon race, Wine Trail, Sack Race, rider courage race and more!

Afterwards we will have a get together with a BBQ (friends and family welcome). Please bring a cup/plate/cutlery/chair, and something to go on the BBQ. Don’t forget a snack for your horse too!

For your diary - next club group trek is scheduled for 11th January at a special location not far from Wanaka, book it in!

The newly formed Upper Clutha Riding Club (UCRC) aims to support and encourage club members to enjoy their horse in whatever discipline they choose.

We hope to o er members a range of club activities from trekking to mini events and clinics. We also meet at the Hawea Domain on a Thursday once a month, weather depending. Membership is $25 per annum and new members over 17yrs are always welcome. Riders ride at own risk, helmets and appropriate boots must be worn.

Everyone Deserves a Gift this Christmas

The holiday season is just around the corner, and Community Link and Ray White Wānaka have teamed up once again bringing smiles to the community through their annual ‘A Little Ray of Giving’ initiative. From now until December 18, we are inviting the community to donate unwrapped, unwanted, new and quality used gifts for all ages. These gifts will be distributed by Community Link Upper Clutha to children and families who could use a little extra holiday magic. Last year, the community donated over 100 gifts, and this year, the goal is to top that with even more community support.

Inspire Sustainable Visitor Habits with Plastic-Free Wānaka

Plastic Free Wānaka (PFW) has partnered with Lake Wānaka Tourism to launch a summer campaign to educate and inspire visitors to cut down on single-use waste.

Since 2019, the SUCfree Wānaka initiative has driven signi cant change, with 11 local cafés eliminating single-use cups and an estimated 855,000 cups saved annually.

According to the 2023 Wastebusters Resourceful Communities Survey, 63% of Wānaka residents now embrace the ‘sit, BYO, or borrow’ ethos. This year’s campaign aims to inspire visitors to adopt the same sustainable habits.

“Taking a moment to sit down for a co ee doesn’t just reduce waste - it lets you

connect with the beauty of Wānaka and support local businesses,” says Sophie Ward, PFW Board Member.

Plastic Free Wānaka is now calling on accommodation providers, including hotels, motels, Airbnb hosts and campgrounds, to help share the campaign’s message. Downloadable resources, including posters and guest communication templates, are available to support this e ort.

PROVISION OF HEALTH/WELLBEING SERVICES WITHIN QUEENSTOWN EVENTS CENTRE

Queenstown Lakes District Council invites suitable applications for ‘Expressions of Interest’ (EOI) from experienced local health and wellbeing providers, for the provision of health/wellbeing services appropriate to the sports and health environment at Queenstown Events Centre (QEC). The incumbent lease holders’ agreement expires 9 February 2025 and due process requires an open invitation to provide opportunities to the wider health and wellbeing professionals community.

QEC is a busy sport and recreation facility located in the heart of Frankton with free parking. The centre includes a fitness centre, spin room and group fit studio (Alpine Health & Fitness), a range of swimming pools, meeting and function rooms, a 2 court stadium with a climbing wall and a café.

The space allocated for the provision of health services is a 12 square metre room within Alpine Health & Fitness gym at Queenstown Events Centre – Joe O’Connell Drive, Queenstown.
