CHRISTMAS FUNDRAISER 2024
The Wānaka Preschool is Wānaka’s original nonprofit community-based centre. We recently celebrated 30 years of educating our youngest tamariki. Next year will be transformative for the Preschool as we will be undertaking a major renovation and expansion. We are only too aware of the baby boom in Wānaka, with lengthy waitlists at all of the local early childhood centres. We have recently increased the number of one year olds we are allowed to care for and are looking forward to renovating our spaces to accommodate this change. We will be adding a second sleep room, a dedicated outdoor sleeping area in our beautiful courtyard and child friendly kitchens to allow tamariki to more fully participate in cooking experiences.
We are also very aware of the cost of building! To fund this exciting opportunity, we will be applying for grants and undertaking as much fundraising as possible. We have been partnering with Evansdale Cheese for the past two years bringing their beautiful artisan cheeses just in time for Christmas. A great gift idea and perfect for those summer platters. The cheeses will be delivered mid December. For those of you who have previously supported this Preschool fundraiser, you will appreciate how yummy these cheeses are. Looking to make a di erence in our beautiful community?
We invite you to be part of the Wānaka Community Response Group, where passionate volunteers come together to plan for the inevitable emergency situations our region faces.
Our meetings are a great opportunity for everyone - regardless of background or experience - to listen in or contribute to creating a resilient Wānaka.
One of our main roles is to set up Community Emergency Hubs around town, where anyone can visit to get updated emergency information or necessities if available. The group volunteers run these Hubs completely, and many roles will need to be lled.

Wānaka CRG committee member, Geo McLeay, told the Messenger the trailer would ensure “in an emergency we are mobile and ready to deploy to a suitable community emergency hub, or a discrete stand-alone site”.

Come and join members at the Wanaka Croquet Club on the 12 and 19 November at 6.00pm for a fun evening playing croquet.
The basics of golf croquet are easy to learn but as you progress you will enjoy the strategy and tactics of the game. Men and women compete in the same competitions. You need skill and guile to beat your opponents, not brute strength.
Croquet is stress free exercise suitable for all ages. We have four full sized courts and can have eight people on each court at a time. Cost for non members is $10 per person with all necessary gear provided. No eftpos sorry. Please wear at soled shoes. BYO drinks, nibbles provided. Club days are Wednesday mornings, Thursday and Saturday afternoons. Some of our members play socially and others are more competitive and attend tournaments in other towns.
Our club rooms are available for hire to small groups for meetings or family/business celebrations. Perfect for a Christmas sta party of up to 25 people. We provide all the gear to play croquet (including a coach).

Kāhu Youth’s new space at Paetara Aspiring Central is o cially open, and we couldn’t be happier with the upgrade! Our brand-new kitchen is ready to serve up tasty after school treats, and it’s open for youth baking sessions too. Plus, our music room is fully equipped with a DJ mixing desk, guitars, keyboard, andcoming soon - a drum kit!
In addition to study areas, gaming spaces, a large rumpus room, and an art workshop, youth have helped us create a friendly all-inclusive environment.
Drop-in sessions run from Tuesday to Friday, 3.00 pm to 5.30pm, free and open to all youth aged 11+. Whether you’re into music, pool, air hockey, basketball, arts and crafts, or just hanging out with friends, this is a space for youth to relax and have fun. Our youth centre is a safe, inclusive space supervised by Youth Workers who are there to o er support whenever you need.
