LE SUper serif by SuperBruut Here’s a stylish, modern uppercase typeface that you can easily tweak for a more hipster look. Use on monogram logos, quotes and signs. It might require a little creative arrangement but the glyphs help. This font comes in two weights, regular and bold, and looks great when paired with a clean sans serif reading font. Also perfect for creating a debossed or letterpress effect on thick stock paper, or for wood laser engravings.

verything in Crystal and Boris’s bridal portraits spell romance, including the tender hues of blush pink, grey and

ivory. From the sheer linen and the gorgeous stationery to the bouquet of wild flowers and their impeccable choice of outfits, each element is in harmony with the other and it all looks so beautiful. Also, check out that steal-worthy marble effect two-tiered cake, complete with a hint of gold for that luxe feel. These pale shades are so chic and contemporary they definitely are not limited to bridal portrait setups only. Try them for your wedding day too!

greens + neutrals “Our theme was rustic with lots of greenery – we love greenery!” said Devi. They certainly do; foliage and flowers were the main décor element for the wedding. The best thing about botanicals is that they are chic enough to anchor a beautiful venue, but also subtle enough to be the perfect backdrop. Complementing the deep green hues were a variety of textures, from the elaborate lace of the bride’s veil and dress to the rose gold accents and hardware sprinkled throughout. The warm tones of lush green, rose gold and pure white all came together to create just the right amount of romance and glamour.

CEREMONY Devi: “We wanted our holy matrimony to be sacred and witnessed only by our closest family and friends. Under the glass ceiling of the Bunga Rampai, Devi and Jason exchanged their vows and became man and wife in an intimate ceremony, witnessed only by their close friends and family. Soft sunlight cast the perfect glow on the emotional ceremony, made complete by a leafy green arch and warm woodsy tones. The groom even shed a few tears giving thanks to God for his bride.

VENUE

Bunga Rampai, Jakarta There were certainly elements from this venue that added character and allure to the wedding, from the glass domed ceiling resembling a greenhouse to that beautiful mural of an Indonesian woman. Modern but still paying homage to traditions and heritage, the Bunga Rampai is a versatile space that transformed into the perfect botanicalinspired wedding location. Devi: “We’re glad to have chosen Bunga Rampai as our venue; they were able to accommodate what we wanted and served great Indonesian food.

RECEPTION Much like the ceremony, the reception was intimate and cosy. Complementing the bride’s attire was the groom’s tan linen suit, which matched the warm neutrals of the décor. Keeping to the colour palette, the place settings and tablescapes were gilded in gold and beautifully framed with white roses and greens.

rustic textures Drawing on the wooden elements in the dining room and everything Mother Nature had to offer, this wedding was filled with shades of green that contrasted beautifully with the white flowers such as roses and baby’s breath. Other decorative details included bricks in lieu of vases for the table centrepieces, and twine and fabric mixed in among the vines, leaves, ferns and flowers to add a rustic feel. Bringing it all together, of course, was the casual and joyful nature of this celebration of love!

VENUE

A Little Farm On The Hill, Janda Baik “Without soil, there can be no life. It is the food and song by which we live. It is the great connector of lives, both the source and destination of all” – this is the philosophy behind A Little Farm On The Hill. Set amidst the rolling hills of Janda Baik, it is a real farm that hosts dinners and lunches that are prepared using the produce that they grow themselves. For the bridal couple, it made sense to celebrate their love at this beautiful, intimate and cosy venue. Jean: “I chose this venue because most of us are usually so busy with everyday life that we forget to stop and appreciate the beauty of nature.”

CEREMONY Exchanging their vows in front of their loved ones, Jean and Ryan opted for a traditional yet casual vibe, with the bride and groom wearing a dress and suit respectively. Their bridal party, too, kept things casual, with sweaters over shirts for the groomsmen and blouse and midi-skirt ensembles for the bridesmaids. Providing the focal point of the ceremony was a beautiful boho arch made out of wood, twine and flowers, and it was under this that the newlyweds said ‘I do’ and shared their first kiss as man and wife.

Ming Lee: “We didn’t have a specific theme, but we knew we wanted something clean and earthy, with colours such as green, white and brown. We loved how our wedding reflected us and wanted to keep everything simple and intimate.” While Mother Nature provided the lush green spaces, from the grass to the palm trees and beautiful skies, the bridal party kept their colours neutral with grey dresses for the bridesmaids and grey ties for the groomsmen. Florals were a subtle yet focal point of the celebration, and the groom looked dashing in his cobalt blue suit.

CEREMONY The ceremony was a true reflection of Ming Lee and Ewe Jin’s personality, where every small detail had been personally done by them or their loved ones. For a couple who confessed to only really starting on the wedding planning two months prior, they really pulled it off! There were tons of details that were personal to the newlyweds, including the ring pillow and the origami crane backdrop. “We started stringing the 1000 cranes two nights before the wedding,” shared Ming Lee. “Our backs ached, our fingers pricked, we lacked sleep – I was so close to giving up! But then my husband looked me in the eye and said, ‘We can do this. We will do this together!’ And I’m so glad we did!”

rustic elegance “My favourite colour is green, and despite us getting married at the peak of winter, the winery was still so lush and green. Our theme was green and white with a touch of copper for a rustic yet elegant feel,” said Anselm. Looking at the photos you wouldn’t have guessed that this was a winter wedding, thanks to the bright blue skies that set the perfect backdrop for these dramatic nature shots. Keeping the colour palette simple meant that the copper accents and wooden textures were able to shine alongside the white flowers and greenery, creating an elegant and rustic finish.

CEREMONY “It was a really sweet moment for me, hearing his vows on the day to love me fiercely, in front of our close friends and relatives,” said Mao Ling. Anselm got teary eyed and emotional watching his bride walk down the aisle towards him, and as the couple said ‘I do’ in the chapel, it was a touching moment indeed. The minimalist space was filled with white flowers and striking green leaves, while the dark oak furniture and copper accents perfectly complemented the bridal party’s blush tones. “I decided on the mismatched bridesmaids’ dresses as everyone’s body shape is different, so I gave them the liberty of choosing a style they liked,” added Mao Ling. “I’m not a fan of fur coats, so I opted for leather jackets instead to keep warm in the winter weather!”

VENUE

The moment we laid eyes on Stones of the Yarra Valley, we just completely fell in love with the chapel, the rustic barn, everything. We knew we had to have our wedding there and we paid the deposit the following day.

RECEPTION Keeping the colour palette simple yet warm was the right choice. The glass windows allowed for tons of natural light while the oak tones provided contrast against the elegant copper accents, which brightened up the venue and gave it a touch of glamour. That’s when the party started – with glasses of wine to toast to the happy couple, friends and family danced and celebrated the newlyweds for hours, and there was certainly no shortage of joy and laughter all around!

KAM & LEWIS

CONCEPT

I

t’s truly impressive what a talented photographer can achieve in a mere six days. The wide-ranging themes of these shots, from Shanghai’s futuristic skyline to the ancient

town of Lijiang and even the unique Tibetan culture in Shangri-La, have blown us away. The richness that comes from combining culture and fashion photography will make you kiss goodbye to old school wedding photos. We speak to Oly from Metrophoto, as well as the bride, Kam, about these portraits and the amazing wardrobe. Do you have prior experience in fashion photography or photojournalism? Oly: I love creating impactful photographs and a lot of those are found in fashion photography and photojournalism. Wedding photography is my first love, but my style has evolved and elements of fashion photography and photojournalism are often infused to create the photos that I take today. Do you direct your couples or do they simply have a natural flair for photos? Oly: It’s always a combination of both. I direct the spots and angles, and sometimes provide high-level instructions like what emotions to convey, and then I leave them to do their thing. Some photos require more direction so it depends. But the vision for the frame always starts with me. Tell us about this rooftop photo that you took. Oly: Pictures like these are Metrophoto’s signature style. When I met Kam and Lewis to discuss their pre-wedding shoot, we knew that we had to shoot the famed Shanghai skyline. Kam researched potential locations and we ended up getting the chance to shoot on this rooftop. I must admit that while most of my clients are quite bold, Kam and Lewis were among the bravest. I was more nervous than they were for this shot!

Did you engage a stylist for the wardrobe? It looks amazing! Kam: Yes, we worked with the Manila-based stylist Adrianne Concepcion, who chose our outfits based on the location photos we provided during our initial meeting. For the formal layouts in Shanghai, we wore clothes made by the Filipino fashion designer Francis Libiran, who also designed our wedding day outfits. For the shoots in Lijiang and Shangri-La, we wore mostly high street brands that had been selected by Adrianne, in patterns and colours that were specifically chosen to contrast and/or complement those scenes. Were the final results everything that you expected? Kam: One can’t help but have high expectations when working with as creative a photographer as Oly Ruiz. We had an idea of the look and feel that we hoped to achieve, but the final results certainly exceeded our expectations. The beautiful locations in China, our stylist, the makeup artist, and of course Oly’s vision all came together to create this very exciting and aesthetically stunning set of photos that we will treasure for years to come.

OH SO SENSUAL

These are the trends that have been taking centrestage, but with a fresh twist or two. We especially adore the romantic 3-D floral details that are still very much in bloom on the runways. Indeed these gorgeous dresses were made for wearing – and staring.

Many contemporary brides prefer something more simple and lightweight, and the long, heavy wedding train is giving way to full-length regal capes, or even dresses with a sheer cape-like effect. Whether it’s floral lace, a botanical print or 3-D floral embellishments, there are plenty of ways to incorporate a floral theme into your wedding gown.
