How about a san serif family font with 18 styles? You read it right – from extra light all the way to black italics, this font can be used in black to create a bold and stylish statement, or in grey for a minimalist look. For a glam feel, try it in gold stamping. This is so versatile and timeless that you can use it in all lowercase or all caps, and it will still work. Also, it looks great on thick white matte stock paper.

this beautiful Indonesian collaboration was styled by event planners Pepper Suite Events and photographed by Fire, Wood & Earth. Filled with details that have got our hearts yearning for more, the shoot celebrates the spirit of being wild and free, and we love the flowy dresses by Verene Mia, which are perfect for adding a touch of softness to the set. No doubt this would look great also for a wedding ceremony or reception, especially if you’re looking for some continuity from your bridal portraits.

wes anderson chic As big fans of Wes Anderson, this couple incorporated his style into their entire wedding! From the colour palette and the minutely detailed decorations to the wedding video treatment, everything was Wes inspired, and even the tables were named after his movies. Chloe: “This bohemian daydream was costyled and brought to life by myself and Spring Cottage. Jinn and I wanted something unconventional, and I was never a fan of girly floral arrangements, so everything from the bridal bouquet to the table décor was made of dried flowers and heaps of pampas grass. We incorporated a festival vibe into the ceremony with a teepee arch and a carpet aisle.”

You can’t get more personal than that. The bridal party, groom, bride and witnesses were all moved to tears.

VENUE

Tanarimba, Janda Baik, Pahang Being in a tropical country meant it was a little more difficult to find an outdoor wedding venue with pleasant (or slightly cooler) weather. This couple wanted to get married in Malaysia as it is home for the both of them, and they were lucky to find the perfect spot in Tanarimba. The beautiful surroundings and wooden structures allowed them to decorate to their hearts’ desire, while also fulfilling their wish of having an outdoor celebration.

RECEPTION There was certainly no shortage of merriment at this exciting soirÊe! Once night fell, layers upon layers of fairy lights made the guests feel as though they were dancing under a sky full of stars. The couple were thoughtful hosts – wedding favours were personalised wooden coasters that doubled as seating cards, and there was even a little competition to see which of their guests could re-enact their engagement shoot.

autumn hues

Being born and bred in Ipoh, it was fitting that this couple chose to tie the knot in their hometown. Set against the looming limestone caves of Perak, their wedding was dreamy yet moody, and filled with fall colours such as burgundy, burnt orange, mustard yellow and olive green. From the steamy hot springs that cast a mystical feel to the proceedings to the dramatic atmosphere of the caves, from the winter wildflowers in the bridal bouquet to the blush pink bridesmaid dresses – it all came together simply beautifully.

CEREMONY The trend du jour is to say “I do” beneath an unconventional “arch”. Gone are the usual arches and arbours; for this wedding, the newlyweds held hands and exchanged vows in front of their loved ones against the backdrop of a super chic hexagon, covered in lush, dark green ferns and leaves, and paired with autumn hued flowers. The walk “down the aisle” was a walk across a bridge that only served to make the setting all the more magnificent, as it was flanked by trees and other wooden elements. Truly, it was a sight to behold.

RECEPTION How many of us can say we got to have our wedding in a limestone cave? To celebrate their union, the newlyweds enjoyed a wedding luncheon with 80 of their family and friends. The buffet style meal featured beautiful speeches and a simple yet elegant two-tiered wedding cake that was decorated with gorgeous baby’s breath. The light inside the cave cast a beautiful and romantic glow on everything, and we loved the bride’s reception dress – a high necked, tiered, floral maxi dress that was casual yet bridal. What a gorgeous choice!

forest vibes

Even though the lovebirds tied the knot in tropical Singapore, that didn’t stop them from recreating the moody hues of autumn indoors. It was their favourite season after all, and a really romantic one too! To achieve this, they filled the venue with lots of ferns and eucalyptus leaves, adding pops of colour in the form of burnt orange and mustard yellow flowers, along with wisps of blush pink. The other elements of their theme were more personal, and it was clear that the couple had considered their guests every step of the way, from their attendance right down to the favours.

FIRST LOOK We love how the bride eschewed tradition for a first look, as well as her slightly unconventional but no less stunning bridal gown. Her groom must have been completely floored. As part of their first look, the couple took the opportunity to read their vows to each other before the ceremony. This was a celebration of their union, and it was only right that there would be moments that were just for them and them alone.

VENUE

The Fullerton Hotel, Singapore Since the venue was indoors and bright white from floor to ceiling, the bride worked with their chosen florist, ‘The Flower Library’, to recreate the outdoors. The contrast of the dark colours against the white made everything stand out even more, and just the right amount of décor elements peppered the room – too little and it would have been too sparse; too much and it would have been over the top.

RECEPTION “For the cocktail reception area, we wanted something different, so our friends set up a grazing table with figs, breadsticks, cheeses, fruits and more,” said the bride. The table fit the theme of their wedding day perfectly – everything seemed as if it were overflowing with abundance. The reception was also where the newlyweds wanted to say “thank you” to their guests for being with them on this special day. Personalised agate slices served as both wedding favours and place cards, while a customised guestbook with illustrations of all the guests meant the newlyweds had a beautiful keepsake from their wedding to have in their new home.

greenery + lace Straight out of a postcard, this wedding was the picture perfect dream. Filled with so much romance and subtle grandeur, everywhere was covered in lush greenery, ferns and trees, with the blush and pale pink flowers in the floral arch and bridal bouquet contrasting the deep green hues. The bride’s wedding gown was made out of the most delicate and beautiful lace. Hand in hand with her new husband, she looked resplendent against the tall olive trees, and ecru stone walls and steps. All bathed in golden light, only minimal dÊcor was needed, for Mother Nature was more than enough.

CEREMONY The newlyweds exchanged their vows beneath a floral arch in the shape of a waxing crescent moon, in the presence of only 60 family and friends. It was an intimate affair, which added to the magic. Further complementing the gorgeous colour palate was the deep navy on the bridesmaids; everything certainly came together beautifully. Yanti: “As we were in beautiful Tuscany, we thought we would also like to incorporate some local culture, like the rice tossing at the end of the ceremony. It’s meant to symbolise rain, which is said to be a sign of prosperity, fertility and good fortune.”

GISSELLA & PERMADI

CONCEPT

E

very once in a while, we come across bridal portraits that blow our minds, and we know it takes both an open minded couple and an amazing photographer to give birth to something as

original as this. Inspired by Shoji Ueda, a Japanese photographer who combined surrealist compositional elements with realistic depictions, these masterpieces by a couple of visual communication designers and Govinda Rumi of Terralogical are inspired indeed. What a feast for the eyes! Who came up with the concept? Gissella: Both Govinda and us didn’t really know beforehand what we were going to shoot. We really wanted to defy the norms of bridal portraits, at least in Indonesia, but with some conventional shots as a backup plan. When we arrived in Bintan, Govinda told us about a photographer that he admires, Shoji Ueda, and apparently some of our outfits were similar to his concepts. From there, it was just Govinda doing his magic. Who did the styling for the clothing and setup? Gissella: The photoshoot was scheduled only two weeks prior to our flight to Bintan, but because we had known Govinda for a long time, we trusted him completely. Other than that, we did everything ourselves, from makeup and hairdos to even pressing our own clothes. We explored some unorthodox ideas, such as masculine outfits, androgyny, gender ambiguity and identity swaps.

A little sparkle never hurt anyone, and we find that to be especially true when it comes to weddings! Here are some good examples of how to subtly add some bling to any theme. Viktor & Rolf’s halter gown studded with crystals and matte beads certainly won’t look out of place in a minimalist themed celebration.
