Multnomah Athletic Club | SUMMER 2023 COURSE GUIDE | 3

GET READY FOR SUMMER CAMPS

MAC Athletics is excited to showcase its many programs and passionate instructors for members this summer. The club is committed to creating a safe and fun environment for children, and there is no other place where members can find such a variety of both athletic and non-athletic camps for the entire summer. Whether members are looking for competitive or recreational sports, offsite adventures, technology and arts offerings, programs designed for younger kids – or a combination of all of these things – MAC ensures children have a fun and engaging time. Summer camps at MAC demonstrate great examples of partnership and collaboration within the club.

SUMMER CAMP FORMAT

Camps fall into three schedule blocks: morning, 9-11 a.m.; midday, 11:45 a.m.-1:45 p.m.; and afternoon, 2-4 p.m. Those attending multiple camps are welcome to stay with camp counselors from 11 to 11:45 a.m. for lunch and 1:45 to 2 p.m. in the check-in/out area; supervision is provided to ensure they get to their next camp on time.

Each day, campers are dropped off and picked up from the third floor of the member garage. Campers need to check-in upon arrival and must be checked out by a parent/caregiver at the camp desk located on the third floor of the member garage. Check-in for full-day adventure and kayak camps is in the turnaround, at the club’s Main Entrance. Expect camp check-in/out areas to be busy. The club strives to make this process as smooth and efficient as possible and recommends campers arrive at least 20 minutes before the camp starts, particularly at the beginning of each week.

2023 SUMMER CAMPS

All campers receive a colored bracelet at check-in that indicates which camp(s) they are enrolled in for the day. Children ages 6 and younger receive an orange bracelet to indicate to all MAC staff that they may not roam the club on their own.

Questions? Call 503-517-2356 to reach the summer camp check-in desk.

GUEST REGISTRATION

Members may register guests for summer camps. To register a guest, members should reserve two spots under the same name. Guests must remain with their member for duration of the camp. Members are billed for their guest’s reservations. Guest registration opens at noon Friday, April 21. Current MAC members may enroll their nonmember children and grandchildren in camps during the summer. Nonmember children and grandchildren are subject to a 25 percent upcharge fee. Guests using the member garage need to take a parking pass from the security station and can have it validated by staff at the camp check-in desk.

FORMS AND POLICIES

MAC AGREEMENT RELEASE AND WAIVER OF LIABILITY FORM

MAC classes and camps require that the MAC Agreement Release and Waiver of Liability form be completed by parents/guardians to give permission to treat children in the event of a medical emergency. At the time of registration, members are required to consent to the agreement. Members are encouraged to periodically review their children’s profiles and update contact information. To update a child’s profile, log in as the child on the website and click “My Profile” from any screen.

WAITLIST POLICY

Members are waitlisted for a class or camp that has reached maximum enrollment. They receive enrollment priority based on the order in which they are waitlisted for the class. Members are notified via email if a spot has opened and they now are enrolled. Updates to registration status also can be viewed online at themac.com.

CLUB-WIDE SUMMER CAMP CANCELLATION POLICY

Unless otherwise stated for a specific program, general policy regarding class withdrawal is as follows:

• Withdrawals made 14 days prior to class start date: No charge

TENNIS

MAC Tennis offers classes and lessons for all ages. Members improve their stroke, develop new point strategies, and get a great workout. Children are introduced to the game and given an opportunity to develop enthusiasm and basic skills. MAC Tennis coaches reserve the right to place participants in the proper class. For drop-ins, contact the coach. The drop-in fee is $20 per hour.

For a complete list of levels, course descriptions, and program policies, visit themac.com/group/pages/tennis. For more information, contact Head Coach Paul Reber at 503-517-7594 or tennis@themac.com.

PLEASE READ: Competition for MAC Tennis classes is at an all-time high. For the benefit of all classes and to help ensure players are at a suitable level for each class, registration is limited to a player’s NTRP rating. Players with no NTRP Rating are not eligible for 3.5 or higher-level classes. To acquire an NTRP rating, please visit the USTA League page at tennislink.usta.com/leagues/common/home.aspx. Registering out of level causes a player to be withdrawn from the class without notice. For a complete list of levels, course descriptions, and program policies, visit themac.com/group/pages/tennis. For more information, contact Head Coach Paul Reber at 503-517-7594 or tennis@themac.com.

NTRP 2.0-2.5: Player has taken some lessons, but needs on-court experience, and has obvious stroke weakness, but is developing in singles and doubles.

NTRP 3.0: Player can place shots with moderate success and sustain a rally at a slow pace, but lacks control when trying for power.

NTRP 3.5: Player has achieved stroke dependability and direction on shots within reach, including forehand and backhand volleys, but still lacks depth and variety, seldom double faults, and occasionally forces errors on the serve. Players with prior coach approval may register if they are below class level. NTRP 4.0: This player has dependable strokes with directional control and the ability to alter depth of shot on both forehand and backhand sides during moderately paced play. This player also has the ability to use lobs, overheads, approach shots and volleys with success. This player occasionally forces errors when serving. Points may be lost due to impatience. Teamwork in doubles is evident.

Players are encouraged to register for classes at level. All at-level players are eligible for classes before below-level players. If below-level players are needed to fill classes, the Dynamic Rating from tennisrecords.com is used to determine the highest-rated player.

All Tennis instructors are subject to change without notice. Refunds are not issued if an instructor change occurs.

Please note Tennis 100 meets on two consecutive Tuesday and Thursdays. Capacity:

TENNIS 101 (AGES 18+)
