Greenspeed is the rst company worldwide to obtain Cradle to Cradle Gold certi cation for probiotic cleaning products Greenspeed Probiotic detergents are environmentally friendly and environmentally beneficial As a specialist in sustainable cleaning solutions, Greenspeed continues to work towards circular cleaning. And with success too, because the innovative Probio range has now been awarded Cradle to Cradle Gold certification for probiotic cleaning products in addition to the EU Ecolabel. Greenspeed launched this new range of probiotic cleaning products last year at the Interclean Amsterdam international trade fair. Greenspeed Probio was the first range of professional, probiotic cleaning agents worldwide to be awarded the EU Ecolabel. Being the first to obtain Cradle to Cradle Certified™ gold certification is a big step forward for Greenspeed. Michel CONTACT +31 (0)70 345 87 37 de Bruin, CEO of TGreenspeed: “This (0)70 345 89 42 Gold certificationFgreenspeed@greenspeed.eu is+31 the reward for our work, in which we continue HEAD OFFICE to innovate with sustainable Greenspeed B.V. The Probio products consist of benign microorganisms of natural origin. These bacteria produce

enzymes which, both during and after cleaning, break down the microscopic dirt into tiny pieces. This allows the probiotics to absorb the small pieces and digest them as food. The result: a microscopic deep clean and long-lasting absorption of odours.

Efficient, safe and environmentally beneficial The Probio products are of course produced responsibly using green energy. The products are safe to use and do not feature any hazard labels, i.e., they are CLP-free. The products even obtained a platinum score for ‘material health’ according

WEBsiTE: www.greenspeed.eu

to the Cradle to Cradle criteria, which is the highest possible score. If the microorganisms return to the environment after use, they actively contribute to water purification and the preservation of natural microflora. Probiotics are therefore not just environmentally friendly, but also environmentally beneficial. The unique Cradle to Cradle Certified™ mark is awarded by the Cradle to Cradle Products Innovation Institute, an international, independent, nonprofit organisation. Their quality model assesses products on 5 criteria: renewable energy, material reutilization, material health, water stewardship and social fairness.

Cleen And Changing Places Team Up To Improve Washroom Standards Cleen A national consortium which campaigns for the provision of specially-adapted washroom facilities has adopted an innovative system which has been developed by a Derby company to help raise standards across the UK. The Changing Places Consortium – co-chaired by Muscular Dystrophy UK – has campaigned for more than a decade for fully-accessible toilets for people with severe disabilities who need extra equipment and space to use toilets safely and with dignity. More than 1,300 Changing Places facilities are now registered across the UK but many areas still lack adequate provision. Monitoring the Changing Places network will now be far easier thanks to Cleen - the UK’s first fully integrated washroom services management tool and review app – which has been developed by Hygiene Services Group (HSG) in Pride Park. Cleen enables washroom users to log and publish reviews – good and bad – via a free app that is easily downloaded onto a smartphone. The Cleen app has a special area for reviews of Changing Places toilets which can be published on issues such as faulty bed hoists and unreachable emergency cords as well as cleanliness issues. Alternatively, users can highlight positive experiences which are shared publicly on the app for others to encourage others to visit the venue.

Washroom services and water conservation specialists HSG has provided Changing Places and equipment suppliers in the washrooms with a free Cleen Dashboard. This will notify the equipment providers and consortium instantly of issues highlighted via the Cleen App so that appropriate action can be taken. HSG is now working with venues who have Changing Places washrooms on site to enable them to have their own individual dashboards so that they can also monitor reviews, take action and post positive reviews themselves. Facility providers can also purchase the Cleen Tablet which are installed in or near washrooms and enables reviews to be posted directly on site without a smartphone.

“We’re delighted that Cleen is supporting Changing Places. We look forward to working together to campaign for a more inclusive society.”

The partnership was officially launched at an event at Leeds City Museum on Friday (July 19) to mark Changing Places awareness day.

The Cleen App is free to download onto a smartphone and enables washroom users to log reviews of washroom facilities in any type of venue. For more information please visit www.cleen.world or search the app store in Apple or Android.

Clare Lucas, Head of Policy and Campaigns at Muscular Dystrophy UK, which co-chairs the Changing Places Consortium, said: “Having access to a well-equipped toilet is a matter of respect and dignity for people who are severely disabled. “However, the stark reality is that without enough Changing Places many disabled people face the choice of not going out or being changed on dirty floors. They are denied a basic human right: using a toilet.

Restaurant Floor Cleaning Made Easy Kaivac Restaurant floor cleaning is not as simple as it sounds. Not only are there greasy messes, drink spills and food stains to deal with, but designers often carve out restaurant zones by specifying different flooring materials. This means there could be carpet in the front of the house, wood flooring in the bar, sealed concrete in the dining area and a whole commercial kitchen floored with ceramic tile.

Does your staff know how to maintain each material properly? Getting it wrong can damage expensive finishes, devastate your reputation and hurt the bottom line. Fortunately, Kaivac has the right equipment, tools and techniques to

make restaurant floor cleaning fast, complete and easy. Read on for a list of common restaurant flooring types and cleaning methods.

How to Clean Restaurant Carpet Designed to stand up to heavy traffic and tough stains, restaurant carpet lends a touch of luxury to a dining area. The material feels great underfoot, adds traction and offers acoustical dampening. Follow these tips to keep the material looking great season after season. Spot clean spills immediately: Accidents happen, but ignoring drinks spilled on carpet is a big

mistake. Yes, industrial carpet is designed to repel liquids but an unattended spill will eventually soak in and leave a stain. Pick up crumby, solid messes: Messy eaters, think babies, can leave a trail of crumbs in their wake. Clean those crumbs up to avoid tracking the mess throughout the space and grinding food solids into carpet fiber. Vacuum carpets daily or more: A very busy dining room may need vacuuming several times a day to keep carpet looking fresh. Choose off times to vacuum the whole carpeted space. Deep clean and degrease: Grease removal is vital for restaurant carpet maintenance. Set up a schedule for deep cleaning that includes a

strategy for removing grease. Chose a professional service or invest in an in-house Kaivac No-Touch Cleaning system paired with a carpet extraction wand to remove grease and soils at a much lower cost.

and vacuum up. Floors will be clean, grease free and dry.

Ceramic Tile Cleaning Made Easy

A darling of designers looking to make a statement, sealed concrete checks a lot of boxes. It’s on trend, low cost, highly durable and can be painted, stained and textured for a unique look. Sealed concrete even works well in restaurant kitchens as it can be installed tight to the drains and up the walls to form a cove base.

Ceramic tile and grout are a restaurant mainstay, and for good reason. The combination is highly durable, offers great traction and performance and is easy to maintain. A seemingly endless variety of colors and sizes means tile and grout floors can be found throughout the restaurant space, from the front entryway to the dining room and especially in the kitchen and restroom.

To clean concrete floors, use the OmniFlex Dispense-and-Vac. This system cleans up to 60 times better than mopping. Simply vacuum loose soils, apply a degreaser, let it dwell

Cleaning tile and grout looks easy but beware—grout is quite porous and will absorb dirt, grease and pathogens. Cleaning with a mop and bucket makes the problem

Tips to Clean Concrete Floors

WEBsiTE: www.kaivac.com

worse as the tile acts like a tiny squeegee, drawing dirty water out of the mop and depositing it on the porous grout. The result is dirty tile held together with discolored, malodorous grout. Sound appetizing? Kaivac’s OmniFlex Dispense-and-Vac is a better choice for tile floors also. This technology applies cleaning solution evenly over the entire floor and has a brush wand for scrubbing grout lines. A wet vac removes the all of the dirt, soils and cleaning solution leaving tile and grout floors clean, dry and ready for work. Restaurant floor cleaning is necessary but it doesn’t have to be hard, even if that floor is made up of several different materials. Contact Kaivac if you’re ready for tools and technology that leaves every surface clean, dry and ready to use.

Window Cleaning with Telescopic Poles: Which One is The Right One for You? UNGER Modern telescopic poles make your job easier and are the safer alternative to using ladders. Due to the numerous risks associated with the use of ladders to clean windows, telescopic pole should be the first choice for professional glass and building cleaners.

Traditional window cleaning with aluminium telescopic poles With UNGER telescopic poles for traditional glass cleaning, your work is safer because you have solid footing on the ground. You can choose from one- to five-part aluminium telescopic poles that let you work as high as 10 m (33 ft) up. The two-piece OptiLoc telescopic poles are available in six variants

from 125 cm to 6 m in length. The three-piece OptiLoc series offers telescopic poles from 185 cm to 9 m in length. Add-ons allow the telescopic poles in UNGER’s TelePlus 125 and TelePlus 200 series to be extended by another 6.2 or 10 m, respectively. The two-piece UniTec telescopic poles are also available in 2, 3, and 4 m lengths. The weight varies depending on the length, and ranges between 300 to just over 2,200 grams. Thanks to the UNGER safety cone, the telescopic poles are even safer because the tools snap into place and can’t fall off. Using telescopic poles in traditional window cleaning requires certain workflows that are easy to follow. First, the washer is attached to the telescopic handle. If you skip a little

bit at the top edge of the window, you’ll reduce drips and won’t have to squeegee down the top edge afterwards. When cleaning the window, you choose either a vertical or right angle. The vertical technique is recommended for smaller windows: wipe the window from top to bottom. The vertical tracks overlap and the drops hanging from the rubber lip are tapped off at the top. For larger windows, we recommend cleaning at right angles. Here you set the squeegee to the left under the edge of the upper window frame. First pull horizontally to the right; when you reach the end of the track, go vertically downwards. The individual tracks will overlap here as well. This method leaves a bit of

THE WORLD OF CLEANING 21

water on the left window edge, which you will remove with a vertical stroke at the very end. To mop up, remove the tool from the pole and simply put your chamois over the cone. Window squeegees with swivelling, freely adjustable and fixable squeegee heads are particularly suitable for right-angled wiping. The UNGER VisaVersa, which combines the squeegee and washers in a single tool, is also particularly convenient.

Telescopic poles for pure water cleaning Cleaning windows with pure water is easier, faster, and safer, many times over. UNGER water-fed poles also enable you to work at heights of

up to 20 m (66 ft.) safely from the ground. To clean glass with pure water, UNGER’s nLite One and Connect are two high-quality water-fed pole systems available for working from the ground. The flexible nLite One telescopic poles are available in fibreglass and carbon fibre in lengths up to 8.70 meters and 12.20 meters respectively. The UNGER nLite Connect range also includes telescopic extension poles of different lengths, which allow you to work at heights of up to 20 m (66 ft.) with your feet firmly planted on the ground. Thanks to the telescopic structure, each telescopic pole can be simply

WEBsiTE: www.ungerglobal.com

pulled apart and adjusted to the right length within seconds. A red mark warns users not to pull the pole too far. The handle made of thermoplastic rubber is designed so that it fits perfectly in the palm of your hand. This allows for better and more ergonomic guidance of the pole and ensures that you’re in an optimal position and protects against damage. The practical nLite clips are used to secure an externally routed hose over the entire length of the pole. This prevents twisting of the hose and optimizes safety while cleaning. The longest carbon pole is 12.20 m long but weighs only 3.5 kg (7.7 lbs.). The lightest fibreglass model (1.5 m) comes in at a mere 500 g (18 oz.).

5 reasons why your warehouse should use the racksack® Beaverswood Have you heard of the racksack®? Taking warehouses by storm across Europe and the UK, it seems to be the ‘must-have’ investment for the industrial workplace right now. Here are five reasons why so many companies have bought into the racksack® system. It’s the easiest way to store your waste in a warehouse The racksack® has an intelligent design that allows you to hang it onto warehouse racking and shelving easily using metal “S” hooks. Across Europe businesses are hanging their racksacks at the end of every aisle, which enables the workforce to ‘tidy as they go’ creating a cleaner and more organized workplace and combatting the age-old, every day issue of keeping the warehouse in good order. It’s space saving! Because the racksack® hangs onto racking, it doesn’t take up valuable floor space. For many warehouses and distribution centres, space is a common nightmare – there is never enough of it! The great thing about the racksack® is that it doesn’t take up any. Warehouse Managers are freeing up floor space from giant wheelie bins or ‘waste zones’ and instead using the racksack® which utilizes otherwise dead space. You can be tidy and recycle Under the EU Waste Management Legislation, embodied in the EU Waste Framework Directive, businesses must take adequate measures to ensure that waste in the workplace is recycled. The racksack® comes in a wide range

of designs for recycling – this includes a choice of colours, symbols and waste-related wording. In fact, you can even have your own customization on a racksack® including your branding, to help you be as specific as your warehouse needs to be when it comes to recycling waste. It’s a big cost-saving!

with the range also including the racksack®rollcage and the racksack®trolley. Think backof-store, think mailroom, think order picking and packing areas, think big industrial workplaces – the racksack® family provides a compliant, space-saving and efficient way for businesses to segregate waste.

With warehouse wheelie bins ranging from anywhere between £50 to £250+ the racksack® presents a giant cost-saving solution to traditional waste management methods. Retailing at a fraction of the price, you’re getting a much bigger bang for your buck! racksack® goes beyond the aisle The racksack® family expands beyond warerhouse racking,

Reach & Wash® Machine Testing Ionic Systems Ensuring the quality of ionic machines At Ionic, “Quality without Compromise” has been our core principle ever since the very first Reach and Wash® systems were manufactured nearly 20 years ago. Today, the Ionic brand is known the world over for the high quality of design and manufacture. Maintaining this very high standard is by no means an easy task. Craig Mawlam explains how Ionic’s reputation for quality is safeguarded by the testing procedure, “It’s very easy to claim ‘high quality’, but much harder to actually deliver it. Quality is not a product or a procedure or a service. It’s a culture, a state of mind and an attitude. From the very start, the Reach & Wash system was manufactured with the highest of quality in mind, and there are good reasons for that.

I made the decision a long time ago that Ionic’s products would be built with no-compromise quality as the standard, and that they’d be the best available anywhere.” It’s often a surprise to customers that every Ionic machine is fully runup tested before being passed for installation. Craig explains; “It is not easy or cheap to implement the kind of testing regime we have in place, but it is the only way to consistently deliver high quality. As our customer base now extends across the world, it’s all the more important that customers have the confidence that Ionic products are built to perform reliably year after year.” Craig continues,”Ionic regularly sees customers who have had machines for over ten years, often having been moved from one vehicle to another more than once. “To me, that is the true measure of a high-quality product. Ionic machines are not the cheapest, but I believe that buying a quality product saves

WEBsiTE: www.ionicsystems.com

money in the long run, as they are made to last.”

Testing times Every machine that is manufactured at the Ionic factory in Swindon is subjected to a comprehensive and documented testing procedure. This is done inside a purpose-built testing facility which has it’s own purewater supply and specialised instrumentation. The testing station has instruments that can accurately measure water flow, TDS, pressure, temperature, power consumption, calibration and resistivity (an advanced way to measure water purity). Each and every function of the machine is tested, a process that often requires more than a day to complete. Each machine’s test data is logged, and only if the strict test parameters are met is the machine passed, and authorised for installation or dispatch.

For example, approximately one litre of concentrated chemical is equivalent to 75 spray bottles. However, despite the benefits, the way in which customers dose and dilute these products is important. Chemicals in their pure form are hazardous, as spillages and exposure can lead to potential injuries. To prevent this, using chemical concentrates in a safe and reliable way is key. This comes in the form of chemical dispensing systems.

What is a chemical dispensing system? A chemical dispensing system is a piece of equipment that doses or dilutes chemical at the point of use. Choosing to dilute chemical concentrates at the point of use and sourcing water on-site, reduces transport costs and carbon emissions. In addition, using chemical dispensers provides accurate dosing. This minimises chemical wastage, providing cost-in-use benefits and ensures quality cleaning results. Today’s market offers a variety of chemical dispensing systems and the choice of which to use always depends on the business need. Brightwell Dispensers offers businesses a variety of chemical dispensing systems, from dosing one shot of concentrated chemical to diluting up to five chemicals using mains water.

ECOMULTI For customers who use a variety of chemicals, ECOMULTI is ideal. ECOMULTI is a one-stop cleaning station, allowing users to dilute all their chemicals from one place. It dispenses up to five different cleaning chemicals from one system, making it easy to use and manage. At the push of a button, your chemical is ready to use. If using multiple chemicals, the dispenser comes with clear, colour-coded signage that shows which chemical to use for each application for easy training and maintenance. As chemical dispensing systems accurately dose the correct amount of chemical, this benefits businesses as it makes it easier to forecast cleaning costs. Businesses can control the consumption of chemicals and monitor how much they use. A chemical dispensing system is a cost-effective alternative to using ready-made cleaning solutions. They are better for the environment, efficient and make cleaning easier by providing safe and accurate.

Choosing The Right Commercial Vacuum Cleaner Truvox Natalie Dowse, Marketing and Product Manager for Truvox International Ltd, gives advice on the issues to consider when investing in vacuum cleaners for commercial settings. Vacuuming is one of the mainstays of any cleaning regime – but there is a big difference between domestic and commercial situations. While at home we only vacuum around twice a week - unless we are particularly fastidious or house-proud - in work situations, vacuuming may take place every single day. This means that commercial vacuum cleaners need to be hard working, hard wearing, and able to handle a variety of different surfaces, dirt and debris. Some models are designed for specific sites and tasks. For example, in factories or warehouses it makes sense to use vacuums that have been built for particular jobs such as picking up metal such as screws and other hard materials – but when it comes to other, more multi-purpose buildings, a multitasking vacuum is preferable. Vacuums are predominantly designed to deal with carpeted areas, but these can vary significantly throughout a location. Whereas boardrooms may benefit from deeper-pile carpeting, surfaces in corridors or other places that experience heavier footfall may be ‘shallower’, having been worn down through continuous use. The latest vacuum designs feature brush heads that ‘sense’ differing carpet pile heights, self-adjusting automatically to ensure they float evenly over all carpeted surfaces. This helps to ensure a more thorough clean, and also makes life easier for the cleaning operative, who does not

have to worry about making manual adjustments to the machine. If your vacuum does need to perform on a variety of floor surfaces then models that can work at a range of different speeds could be a good option. As a general rule, a low speed is better for thick carpeting, while a higher speed is more effective and efficient on bare floors. Upright or cylinder designs both have their advantages so it is mainly a question of personal preferences. Don’t assume that upright vacuums are less manoeuvrable than cylinders, as again the newest designs have made great progress in this area. The most versatile ones can lay almost flat, enabling them to clean the most hard to reach areas, under beds or desks, for example. On-board accessories and tools also give access to stairs and ceilings or curtains, as well as enabling a thorough clean for upholstery and seating. One particular advantage of an upright vacuum is its wide cleaning path. This enables a greater expanse of carpet to be cleaned than via the smaller ‘footprint’ of a cylinder vacuum. Many upright models also have the ability to clean right up to the edge of a surface, without the need to employ crevice tools to clean the area beside the skirting board or wall edge.

WEBsiTE: www.truvox.com

Vacuums mainly deal with dry dirt, so filtration systems are also vitally important. A vacuum cleaner that exacerbates allergies for employees or customers is far from ideal, so models incorporating HEPA filtration are now the norm. Models can incorporate various numbers of filtration stages, but, for example, a three-stage filtration, including HEPA 10 filter, will provide a high filtration of all particles of 0.3 microns and larger. Another issue to consider is noise – does this need to be kept to a minimum due to the nature of the workplace being cleaned? Also think about the weight of the vacuum, and the positioning of carry handles, as this will have a bearing on how easily it can be transported around the building. Hose and cable length is also crucial. Being unable to reach the area that has to be cleaned without unplugging and finding a new power outlet will do nothing for productivity. Vacuums play an important role in any contract cleaning regime, but don’t be fooled into thinking that ‘one size fits all’. Advances in technology and design mean that vacuums are now more versatile and adaptable than ever.

Back Pack Vac goes to League 2 Football Club Morclean Morclean are delighted to have sent a Back Pack Litter Collector to a top of the table, league 2 football club this month. Football matches can be messy business, and that’s not just the team rivalry. One of the biggest issue’s clubs face is the rubbish that is left behind by the match go-ers. Although there are usually bins situated around the grounds, apparently, it’s becoming increasingly harder for people to dispose of their rubbish into the provided bins... Litter pickers are old news, they’re not only time consuming but also difficult to use in hard to reach places, such as under chairs and benches and round bends and picking up bits of smaller rubbish. The Morclean Back Pack Litter Collector is ideal for both internal

and external cleaning in areas with limited access. This fantastic piece of kit is also perfect for picking up smaller pieces of rubbish such as cigarette butts, food and broken glass which can be very dangerous, without the need for the user to touch the rubbish. The backpack vac is also able to pick up hazardous waste such as dog poo. This innovative and effective piece of equipment will be used to ensure that the football grounds are kept in tip top condition and litter free after home games. With comfort in mind and an unladen weight of only 10Kg, this machine is the ideal solution to cleaning in the most inaccessible areas. Sitting comfortable on the back, with padded straps and a belt to clip around the users’ waist for extra support and comfort, this machine is powered by a low noise 2 stroke

engine, which uses 30% less petrol and overall reduces emissions into the atmosphere by 40%. This BackVac Litter Collector can hold up to 35 litres of rubbish, which is collected through a 5 or 4-inch vac hose (3-inch vac hose for collecting dog faeces) and allows the operator to go literally anywhere to collect rubbish. Once the BackVac has reached capacity, it’s just as easy to empty as it is to fill. With no fuss or hassle of paper bags required, this machine is great for street cleaning or cleaning areas with a lot of rubbish, that quickly fills the cylinder. Makita Adds Two New Vacuum Cleaners To Its Dust Control Range Makita The latest additions to Makita’s cordless range of vacuum cleaners, the 18V Brushless Vacuum Cleaner LXT (DVC750LZ) and 12Vmax Vacuum Cleaner (CL121D), are ideal for a wide range of applications – from commercial cleaning, to domestic properties and vehicle interiors. Cordless vacuum cleaners are becoming an increasingly popular choice, as they offer improved usability and health and safety. By utilising Makita’s Li-ion battery technology, the 18v (LXT) DVC750LZ and the 12v-Max (CXT) CL121D also offer extended run times - and fast battery charging – meaning productivity is also increased. Benefiting from Makita’s variable suction control – with high and low settings, as well as a blower function, depending on requirements – the DVC750LZ is suitable for both wet and dry use and can hold up to 7.5L of dry material or 4.5L of wet material – filters should be replaced after using the vacuum for wet applications. The DVC750LZ

is suitable for L-Class dust and can remove 99.0% of dust with a Limit Value for occupational exposure of less than 1.0mg/m3. For improved safety, the DVC750LZ also produces low vibration levels (2.5 m/s²) and has a vibration K factor of 1.5 m/s². The DVC750LZ is compact in size (418 x 251 x 278mm) and includes a foldable handle and flexible hose, with on-tool storage, for ease of use. The vacuum can also be used with a range of accessories – including various nozzles, suction tubes and a shoulder strap - depending on the task. The inclusion of a Brushless Motor means that the DVC750LZ requires minimal maintenance; as the motor does not utilise carbon brushes, friction is reduced, resulting in fewer issues due to wear and eliminating the cost of replacement brushes. Makita has also launched two options for its new CTX 12v-Max Vacuum – CL121DZ (body only machine if users already own batteries and a charger) or the CL121DWA (supplied with a battery and charger). The CTX 12v-Max Vacuum is a compact and light-weight vacuum (1.7g-1.8g net weight) suitable for domestic use and for use in tight, hard to reach places such as vehicle interiors. The vacuum’s variable speed control with a three-stage push button, blower function and range of compatible nozzles makes the CL121D incredibly versatile.

WEBsiTE: www.makitauk.com

The CL121D has a capacity of 500ml with a cloth bag or 330ml with a paper bag and benefits from a maximum air flow of 1.3m3/min and maximum sealed suction of 4.6 kPa. Makita’s CL121D also includes overheat protection, to ensure that the vacuum continues to work at its optimum. Overheat protection will stop the vacuum motor if the tool or battery begins to overheat. Matt Chilton, Product Manager Tools at Makita said: “To ensure the best results, it is vital that those within the cleaning and facilities management sectors carefully consider the tools they use.” “The better the quality of the vacuum, the better the results. Makita’s new cordless vacuum cleaners offer a solution for every job – from cleaning large commercial spaces, to accessing difficult to reach or tight spaces such as the inside of a car or van.”
