Hotel Romeo Roma

- ZAHA HADID ARCHITECTS -

The classical interpretation of Rome as a palimpsest of architectural layers—Baroque buildings atop Renaissance and medieval structures, themselves atop their Roman predecessors—includes a final layer of verticality: ceilings of painted trompe l’oeil arches, heavenly vaults, and celestial chambers populated with ascendant saints, martyrs, and putti. From the very beginning of her career, Zaha Hadid sited her buildings in the air, floating buildings on shadow, light, and seams of space that lifted volumes above the ground, relating her work to another tradition—Rome’s. Hadid, and the city’s architects of the Renaissance and Baroque that preceded her, aspired to the air, the skies, and the heavens. In designing the hotel conversion of the Palazzo Capponi, on the Via di Ripetta, a branch of the city’s Sistine Trident radiating from the Piazza del Popolo, Hadid and her team at Zaha Hadid Architects (ZHA) led by Paola Cattarin, started where Baroque architects ended their palimpsest—at the vaulted ceilings.

As Cattarin notes, Rome’s architectural history can be read in its masonry vaults, from the Roman, through the Renaissance and Baroque periods, into the 18th Century: “We took inspiration from this idea, to make

a new interpretation of vaults and their intersections. All the different rooms, down to the furniture, are designed with this concept.” Searching for a property in Rome for a new hotel, Alfredo Romeo, founder of Romeo Hotels, came upon the historic Palazzo Capponi. “Rome is one of the most beautiful cities in the world,” he explains, “and Piazza del Popolo was the salotto of Rome in the 1950s and ‘60s. Federico Fellini and Marcello Mastroianni regularly met at the Bar Rosati on Piazza del Popolo. It’s a mythical piazza, and by night especially, it has a magical appeal.” Romeo purchased the palazzo in 2012 with an existing tenant: the Italian government’s Istituto Nazionale Assistenza Infortuni sul Lavoro (INAIL)—National Institute for Assistance of Accidents at Work—had occupied the building since 1951. While the core of the building dates from the 16th century, it also includes components from completely different historical periods. Most recently, two wings were added by the INAIL administration in the 1950s. In the absence of laws, at the time, to protect historic architecture, INAIL remodeled much of the palazzo’s remaining interiors in its conversion to administrative offices, making significant changes to the palazzo and its art. A series of Palazzo Capponi’s 17th-century frescoes were also

displaced. Intricately painted on canvas, the works were removed from their original location, placed in wall frames, and repainted—completely masking the original frescoes. Painstaking restoration gradually uncovered and revealed these delicate works and four centuries after their creation, they can be admired once again by guests of the hotel.

With little of the original interiors remaining, Romeo continued the longstanding tradition custodians and patrons of Italy’s grand buildings have followed over the preceding five centuries—commissioning the pioneering architects and artists of their time to create captivating novel interiors showcasing the expertise of skilled artisans and craftsmen working in the finest materials. Romeo Design began collaborating with ZHA in 2015, selecting the architects’ free forms and fluid lines to ensure an original design rather than the repetition and resemblance evident in hotel interiors across the globe. “We are transforming a period building with avant-garde designs by Zaha Hadid. It’s a remarkable dialogue between contemporary and historic architecture,” explains Romeo. While the palazzo’s exterior advertises Renaissance, the composite layout of its interiors eschewed Renaissance coherence. In converting a palazzo that had been significantly altered over the centuries—and used as a civic office building for the past seven decades—ZHA re-established a processional sequence of spaces from entry to the guest room. From the reception area,

guests pass into the former courtyard, now vaulted with a retractable glass roof. This newly enclosed lobby is a distribution point from which the restored grand stairways lead to guest rooms and, beyond, to the garden.

Generally, the cellular organization of hotels promotes repetition, modular design, and the industrial paradigm—explaining in the similarity of hotel rooms worldwide. But the many different types of rooms in the palazzo’s composite footprint favored an individuated rather than systematic design approach; adhering to the Italian tradition as a culture of the craftsman’s hand and the artist’s signature—the word design (disegno) itself is derived from the verb segnare (to sign). ZHA’s virtuosity with three-dimensional form facilitated the hotel’s design with the uniqueness of Italy’s artisanal tradition. Historically, the vaults in Rome, differ. The simplest is the barrel vault, and two intersecting barrel vaults generate a groin vault, in which curving quadrants from the intersecting semi-circular vaults peak in lines that connect to their points of origin, columns, or walls.

Groin vault is regular if those points are equidistant and squared, but if the two columns or walls don’t square, the groins themselves distort, as though stretched and elasticized. ZHA evolved this concept already necessitated by the palazzo’s irregular geometries: one vault might intersect another at an angle, with

unexpected results that generate moments of wonder. Like her Baroque predecessors devising heavens in the heights inside their buildings, Hadid had a history of distorting form to enchant architecture. Dimensional constraints and functional purpose alone, however, did not solely determine design. In a country with an ethic motivated by beauty, ZHA created an appropriate bellezza for each room. The hotel’s 74 rooms and suites are worlds of their own. The architects have designed spaces to a point of extreme generosity. ZHA drives the design to abundance like Baroque frescoes that team with architectural forms and human figures. Complexity extends from the ceilings and walls to formulate the space of each room.

ZHA intensifies materiality, light, and form throughout the building to structure space—from room to room, from wall to furniture. There is never a sense of the building ordered by a grid or box or axis or by any other top-down system of control. They build and order design not just from the vaults but the detail, an omnidirectional program of complexity emanating from all surfaces to define space. Selected for their quality and functionality in improving acoustics

and naturally regulating room temperature, the composition of materials within the guest rooms and suites includes Carrara Statuarietto and Nero Marquina marble paired with Makassar ebony, cedar or chestnut woods, and Krion engineered by Porcelenosa. Some suites on the palazzo’s piano nobile incorporate the restored 17th-century frescoes while suites on higher floors have private terraces with panoramic views of the city. Vaults of delicate brass circuli accentuate the lobby’s lava stone and ebony floors, while Sicilian rock salt, tadelakt (an ancient Morrocan lime-based wall treatment), together with cedar and ash have been worked with precision to create the interiors of the hotel’s spa. With elements of the building from the 16th century, and its later additions also listed by the government department responsible for monuments and historical buildings—the Soprintendenza Speciale Archeologia, Belle Arte e Paesaggi di Roma—extensive surveys determined that the structure required significant reinforcement. 49 companies have been involved in the restoration of the palazzo, submitting 230 different applications for building permissions with all works overseen by the Sovrintendenza as a national historic monument.

Following the re-engineering and reinforcement of the deteriorating structure, guidance issued by the Sovrintendenza dictated that the palazzo’s walls could not be altered to incorporate the mechanical and electrical services required for the hotel’s bedrooms, restaurants, and other guest amenities. To enable the highest standards of guest accommodation in the 21st century, a second skin has been meticulously crafted for each of the hotel’s interiors, creating a thin cavity between the existing structure and the interior walls of the hotel to house the services for each room. While only a few centimeters in width, this cavity extends centuries in time, continuing the palazzo’s 500 years of reinvention. During early excavations to create the hotel’s garden, the discovery of a Roman wall halted works on site. Detailed archaeological surveys and excavation by hand under the supervision of the Soprintendenza revealed a previously undocumented bottega (workshop) with an opus reticulatum—a diamond-shaped stone facing applied Roman architecture approximately 2,000 years ago giving

concrete walls an intricate patterning and detail. A 90 sq.m gallery was carefully carved into the ground approximately four meters beneath the hotel’s garden to protect the newly discovered Bottega. With its glazed ceiling also serving as the glass floor of the hotel’s swimming pool, this gallery enables the hotel’s guests and visitors to experience and appreciate another layer of the Eternal City’s history. Guests and visitors to this gallery will also recognize the scrupulous attention to detail and composition of materials within the 2,000-year-old opus reticulatum is echoed in the rich ensemble of immaculately worked stones, woods, and metals within the hotel’s interiors.

Lucida Restaurant and Bar

The nature of this project is retained to the entertainment industry and located/(anchored in) on a rooftop of a rectangular building informed with a Bauhaus language of architecture, on the western outskirts of Cairo, part of a business/commercial district, an area characterized with swift urbanization. responding to the client’s brief to ensure a place of gathering, a hangout, that held people together: a place of meeting, gathering, and belonging. Food has always been an expression of care, a place of assembly, to sit down and eat together around a table, to sit, share and celebrate exchanges that enable new relationships to form, while old ones to bond. Food is at the heart of this project, an invitation to convene, an entreaty to sit, and find a moment of togetherness at odds with the frenetic pace of modern Cairo life.

Once Fahmy stepped foot on this rooftop, her approach was to keep it as a rooftop, to protect its interiority of the experience yet also to expand its views to the exterior, to the light, to the bright sunshine, shadows cast would be one of the highlights. trying to be respectful to its container rectangular building, that envelopes the space, while breaking the iron grid of the building with an emerging heart inside, a heart/center that is organic, human, moving, and malleable, an approach is

ARCHITECTS -

more like an architecture that is emerging from inside to out. its place that is more about the interiority of the experience, and that doesn’t scream loud in its context. Framed within a container of Bauhaus iron grid language Fahmy based her concept on the tension between a forceful existing architecture following very rigid lines with an emergent creature inside that is more likely to be described as a crumpled paper. a kind that emerges from within selecting to bring to the foreground a garden. The space is designed to be experienced in person rather than being a one-liner to be enjoyed in photos, to be able to uncover each layer, it is really a layered and in-depth experience.

Fahmy’s architectural practice and research laboratory operate as a creative space generating designs, masterplans, interiors, and installations, with the aim to delve into and explore the spatial tension and dynamics within an urban landscape, investigating the interplay of shifting boundaries and overlapping geographies. creating a platform for discourse and dialogue between human needs and scarce resources. Usually, her approach is to look, observe, and try to understand, then it is about investing in new layers with old existing layers, excavated and brought to the foreground.

CASE STUDY

The organic amorphous structure is made almost entirely with Jereed ElNakhl, palm leaves/straws, weaved in an unobstructed presence that never clears the space, yet encircling the trees and a long undulating curvy continuous bar that seems like it has emerged from the ground to rest here for a moment. This feature which forms the loci of the project is shifted from the center of the room, like a human being’s heart not quite placed in the center. and as it anchors the space, it also forms a gateway to the terrace, linking the outside to the inside, on the horizontal plane and as well the vertical, by its opening up to the sky above. This is where everything occurs, a togetherness around this continuous table like a bar with its offering of food and drinks and a place of respite, grounds us, connecting us, wrapped with this Egyptian date palm straw leave lace, connecting us to the past, heritage, crafts, locality, to facilitate a sense of protection and sense of being at home. the oculus in the roof of this structure, through which natural light filters inside, and the way the sun outside fractures the perforated palm straw lace (jereed ElNakhl) walls. In this rooftop project Fahmy’s idea of an architecture that doesn’t forget its foundational responsibility, to provide shelter, a roof, an enclosure, a boundedness, maybe even warmth, maybe even a togetherness with serving a bit of food.

With her organic structure, like crumpled papers, which look like a womb, she has provided a third space within the whole context of the room/rooftop, within which people could gather, find refreshment, exchange, share feelings, ideas, and greetings. inviting people to gather, break the ice, rejuvenate, becoming more intimate and presumably entertained. it is rather an intimate space rounded with a top light that feels like a sculpted skylight within a larger whole that existed before her arrival on site, stepping into Fahmy’s perimeter, the project feels like opening up, revealing inner space, then a score of further spaces, places rather than spaces for better wording, Navigating those you unravel layers of mysteries, interrupted planes, unsymmetrical, curiously unfinished materiality, with her determinedly gentle structures that own the premise on which it was built. Sustainability directly influenced the choice of materials for the project’s construction, reflecting Fahmy’s deliberate commitment to environmentally conscious choices and the crafting of a harmonious relationship between form and function and structures. recalibration of priorities, material choices, and synthesis of form and purpose.

Fahmy’s methodology is “if you can’t find it, create it and produce it, she has long worked with craftsmen,

artists, producers, manufacturers, builders, and engineers in the collaborative process, to arrive at a material, or expand and explore a material, to fold in other forms, elements, and structure. This working methodology is a process of ungrounding, in the sense of unearthing what is already there and yet so often buried under the dust, hence a re-interpreting and re-configuring. Egypt, and Cairo, have a wealth of unwavering resources of raw material, in a very raw form, from mud, sand, palms, and glass, with its own specificity and identity, and with an array of colors that is often very warm, starting from its black framing the Nile, once used to refer to Egypt named as ‘Kemet’ in Pharaoh’s times, to desert colors, from red, pinkish, coppery, golden to white sands, offering a very generous palette of sunset colors, with soft pale date palms greens, that covers the vast outskirts of Cairo.

The engineering background particularly gives her a deeper intuition of possibilities, in the potentiality of making and not only design. The pinkish terracotta walls and surfaces resemble poured concrete, giving an unfinished look or a foundational feel, highlighting the boundaries and the perimeter of the space and framing them. The ridged effect on the walls is a mixture of mud, natural color pigments, hay, and local earth hand-combed by artisans working on site from top to bottom, the imperfections in it are also an expression of the hands of the artisans that

had crafted it. the clientele’s experience of elegant space, a possibility to touch, feel, and contemplate the multiple subtle material variations of textures and colors. palm straws have a natural color, brass and copper, terracotta clay color, and alabaster Egyptian store golden color, glass cooling effect with its tint of patina to give a silvery/champagne color like old mirrors. all these materials and colors were produced and fabricated by the hands of very talented a big group of Artisanal and craftsmanship.

With every project comes a territory, a context, an inquiry, and then a learning process continuously evolving into creative acts, which translates into a collaborative mode of operating, conceived while Fahmy was still a young architect at Cairo University, Faculty of Engineering in her 20s. The approach to detail and buildability of the structure is important, it is about one’s memory, about the research, experimentation, trials and errors, and the exploration that has gone into it, about the buildability, the understanding of how each feature and how it is done. one of the key factors and features of this project design in sustainability_ a term often overused

and included everywhere merely for compliance or appearance to tick the box of green architecture_ yet in this project and in many in Fahmy’s work, has been an integral part of her work, often a sense of urgency or obligation or even of the scarcity of means, to oblige in a way to be resourceful whether this has been an integral part of living in Cairo, which forces you to be resourceful, woven into the very fabric of each endeavor in a project conception or execution. if you were born, raised, and living in Cairo, you know how to be resourceful, you learned if wanted something you needed to create it and produce it, architects, and artist, if you drew an idea on paper and you wanted it physical, you often have to work with your hands in collaborate work to achieve, even though I was born in the 70’s in the Sadat era of infitah, you have seen how parents and grandparents operate a whole generation of learning to do it themself if they want to make it happen, so somehow it is transcendent through generations. One’s relationship with the context, the ground, the city, both physical and conceptual, originates in one’s own lived experience.

Lucida Restaurant, lounge and bar rooftop, designed by Shahira Fahmy, is a physical form to the wistful symmetries of the architect’s language oeuvre, the place offers a range from intimate dinners to performances with 500 guests, deliberately and consistently refusing to be reduced to a nebulous ‘hospitality.’

Protect What Matters: A 360° Solution for Hospitality Challenges

- PDI INTERNATIONAL -

At PDI International, we’re proud to launch the Protect What Matters Most campaign, introducing Protect 360° Sanitising Wipes.

Leveraging our expertise as a global healthcare leader, we’ve developed a professional-grade sanitising solution tailored for hospitality. More than just cleaning, these wipes help protect your people, reputation, and the planet.

Why Now?

Running a hospitality business is more demanding than ever, with rising NIC contributions and operational costs up by 55%. Balancing guest experience, hygiene, and efficiency is critical. That’s why investing in smarter solutions, like Protect 360°, makes a real difference.

We wanted to champion hospitality professionals, acknowledging their challenges in tough economic times. The campaign focuses on the real cost of cleanliness – from sticky tables and staff wellbeing to customer trust. Our creative approach highlights customers as the heroes, using illustrations and storytelling rather than just product features.”– Nina Smith, Marketing Manager, PDI International.

Cleanliness: The Foundation of Trust

Cleanliness is a top factor influencing customer sentiment. A 2023 Accor study found that 81% of European and UK consumers consider it essential. Neglecting hygiene doesn’t just lead to bad reviews – it erodes trust.

A frequent complaint? Sticky tables. This isn’t just about poor cleaning; it can result from varnish breakdown, harsh chemicals, or dirt build-up. Protect 360° wipes tackle these issues efficiently.

People: The Heart of Your Business

Your staff’s wellbeing is crucial. Traditional cleaning methods, like reusable cloths, are prone to crosscontamination. The Food Standards Agency recommends disposable alternatives to reduce risk. Plus, sprays expose employees and guests to airborne chemicals, posing unnecessary health risks. Protect 360° wipes provide a safer, more effective alternative.

Sustainability: A Priority for Today & Tomorrow

Sustainability isn’t just a trend—it’s a business necessity. A Lightspeed survey found that 90% of consumers expect eco-friendly hospitality practices, and 26% would stop visiting businesses that don’t prioritise sustainability.

Protect 360° Sanitising Wipes support your green goals:

• 100% biodegradable fibres & plant-based active ingredients

• Recyclable packaging

• UK manufacturing to reduce carbon footprint

Why Choose Protect 360°?

The Lanesborough, London: A Balance Of Heritage And Craftsmanship

- DERNIER & HAMLYN -

Located at Hyde Park Corner, The Lanesborough is one of London’s most distinguished hotels, celebrated for its seamless blend of Regency-era elegance and contemporary comfort. Every aspect of its interior design reflects a commitment to heritage, craftsmanship, and attention to detail, ensuring an atmosphere that is both timeless and welcoming.

Designed by the renowned Alberto Pinto studio, the hotel’s interiors pay homage to the grandeur of its 19th-century architecture while incorporating modern amenities that meet the expectations of today’s luxury traveller. Central to this design vision is the lighting, a crucial element in creating ambiance and enhancing the character of each space. For this, Dernier & Hamlyn, a specialist in bespoke lighting, was commissioned to design and manufacture an exquisite collection of chandeliers and fixtures that align with the hotel’s refined aesthetic.

Drawing inspiration from Dernier & Hamlyn’s extensive archive of historic designs, the lighting scheme was carefully developed to complement the intricate detailing and opulent finishes found throughout the hotel. In addition to crafting new chandeliers, the team also restored existing fittings, ensuring continuity between the original architectural elements and the newly designed spaces.

The result is a collection of lighting installations that elevate the hotel’s interiors. Guests are welcomed by statement chandeliers upon entering the property, their warm glow enhancing the grandeur of the entrance hall. As they move through the corridors and into the public spaces including the bar, private dining rooms, and reception areas, the lighting continues to play a vital role in defining the mood and experience of each setting. In the guest rooms, bespoke lighting

enhances the sense of comfort and exclusivity, with carefully positioned fixtures that provide both practicality and visual harmony.

What sets Dernier & Hamlyn’s work apart is the level of craftsmanship involved. Skilled artisans employed a range of traditional techniques, from hand-casting to intricate metalwork and delicate glass detailing, to ensure that each piece aligns with the historical integrity of the space. By preserving and restoring original elements while introducing carefully considered new designs, the lighting not only respects the hotel’s Regency heritage but also enhances its modern functionality.

More than just decorative features, the chandeliers and light fixtures contribute to the overall experience at The Lanesborough. They provide a sense of continuity throughout the hotel, tying together the classical proportions of the architecture with the luxurious materials and furnishings that define its interiors. The collaboration between Alberto Pinto and Dernier & Hamlyn exemplifies how thoughtful design and expert craftsmanship can work together to create a setting that feels both historically authentic and entirely relevant to today’s discerning guests.

By combining heritage, craftsmanship, and contemporary elegance, The Lanesborough’s lighting design is a testament to the power of detail in luxury interiors. It serves as a reminder that great design is not just about aesthetics but also about creating an atmosphere that enhances and defines a space.

As one of California’s largest luxury pool concepts, The Cove features a steel-clad outdoor bar and grill with a full commercial kitchen, IT space, private showers and bathrooms, three whirlpool spas, a grand pool, terraced lounge seating, luxe private daybeds, swaying hammocks flanked by towering date palm trees, a raised bocce ball court, a working greenhouse for private wellness experiences and an outdoor restaurant and bar. Spring 2025 Hospitality Trends: Embracing Global Flavours & Natural Living

- ALLIANCE -

As we look towards the prosperous Spring of 2025, it is time for many commercial establishments to take advantage of the exciting trends we are currently seeing in the commercial sector. For those of you who aren’t interested in changing the scenery of your bar or restaurant we would still suggest reading this article as we also discuss the tableware and drink and food options these trends encompass.

Mexican

Mexican cuisine has long been a staple in the global culinary landscape, with TexMex dishes like nachos, fajitas, and chilli con carne gracing menus across various dining sectors for decades. However, this familiar representation barely scratches the surface of Mexico’s rich and diverse food culture. The vitrified Porcelain Cadiz range showcases three geometric colourways offering perfect mix & match vibrancy to any venue. The Cadiz range is ideal for a Mexican style dining experience.

Turkish

Turkish cuisine is experiencing a surge in popularity, with potential appeal to approximately 75% of consumers. This culinary trend offers a tantalising array of bold and aromatic flavours, warming spices, and mezze sharing dishes that captivate the palate. We would recommend the Utopia Saltburn collection as the rich autumnal colours of Saltburn bring to mind those magical places where land meets sea and is perfect for creating a Turkish aesthetic.

Back to Nature

The “sober curious” movement, which gained significant traction in 2024, has sparked a cultural shift among consumers in their late 20s to mid-30s. This demographic is increasingly eschewing late-night drinking and partying in favour of more wholesome pursuits. Midday hikes in nature with friends, followed by casual meals or coffee, have become the new social norm. We would recommend the Churchill Ambience Smoke collection for this trend as the timeless elegance combines expertly with a sophisticated grey pattern.

Trend Integration and You

It has often been said by many experts in the commercial hospitality and food service sectors that adaptation is the key to thriving. Regularly updating menus or aesthetics will not only keep regular customers interested but will also provide a higher chance of enticing new customers to your establishment.

Now, we as well as anyone can attest that in our 25 years of operations there is nothing more important to a successful business than brand identity. A cohesive brand identity ensures consistency across all customer touchpoints, from the logo and menu design to the interior decor and staff uniforms. This consistency helps build trust with customers, as they know what to expect from their dining experience.

Here at Alliance Online, we believe that the trends we have suggested in this article will be the ones to look out for throughout 2025. For more information regarding the trends we have suggested please feel free to call us on 01270 252333 or you can email us at hello@allianceonline.co.uk.

Savour your coffee at its peak freshness

At Jiyonson, our journey began with a shared passion for high-grade specialty coffee and the joy of bringing its rich, aromatic experiences to the wider public, who have mostly been consuming drinks from commercial-grade beans. Founded by a group of coffee enthusiasts, we recognized that coffee isn’t just a beverage; it’s an art form, a ritual, and a way to connect with people.

We were driven by the idea that the perfect cup of coffee starts with the perfect roast. Thus, the BeanGo Cube X was born. This smart coffee roaster was designed with both function and style in mind. It transforms green coffee beans

Luna Beach Club

- INSPIRAL ARCHITECTURE AND DESIGN STUDIOS -

Sitting on the cliffside of Nyanyi Beach, Inside Nuanu Creative City, Tabanan, Bali. Luna Beach Club delivered on the opportunity to create a standout destination for events, dining, arts, and holistic hedonism combined with playful relaxation, where unique iconic architecture overlooks the ocean. The master plan features a series of groundbreaking naturally inspired buildings that create a hub of activity that is conceived according to Fibonacci sequences that connect flow and movement throughout the site.

The brief was to a highly iconic beach club and events destination that would create wonderment, inspiration, and a sense of adventure. Central to the complex is the main beach club which appears as a vortex-like structure, built of bamboo and basalt which serves as the main restaurant area, and is covered with layers of woven shades to keep the interior comfortably bright during the daytime and illuminated at night. The masterplan incorporated masculine (TWG tower) and feminine (main dining and restaurant hub) along with a main attractive open space, plus an array of other destinations within such as the ceremonial building, lagoon pool, and slide-down to a cave pool, and club, elevated pods with tunnels, platform nets and a candy bar dome, enchanted gardens, and an outdoor beverage garden and grill.

Connected to the restaurant is a lagoon-style pool facing the sea, into an underground ‘Utopia Cave Club’ with a thrilling 11m river slide. Adjacent to this in the forest area, elevated pods made of recycled materials intertwine with the trees, offering playful spaces like nets, tunnels, and climbing routes that blend with the natural surroundings. ‘Elysium’ located in a secluded corner, serves as a serene space for ceremonial events such as meditation, weddings, and yoga.

With such complex geometry used throughout combined with forward-thinking ecologically friendly materials, there was a huge degree of research and design that had to be explored. This requires a lot of energy in testing, prototyping, creating confidence, and training construction teams to be able to learn several new building techniques along with the quality control needed to be able to deliver this. In doing so it managed to create the world’s first building to use a combined bamboo and basalt structural system. This can be seen in the beach club double curvature structure. The translucent roof material was also the first time used extensively as a membrane system.

Elsewhere composite SIP panels were used in the ceremonial building and the cave pool as a way to create very challenging forms and also without the use of concrete. In the ‘Elysium’ ceremonial building, there is a clear unbroken 20m gap between the two halves of the building where the only connection is glass. This requires a great deal of structural analysis and stringent snagging on site to ensure the geometry is created correctly, otherwise resulting in possible failure if built incorrectly.

In every aspect, Luna Beach Club exemplifies the perfect blend of innovation, sustainability, and iconic design, setting a new benchmark for experiential destinations that seamlessly connect nature and architecture.

A Sumptuous Dining Experience: Ted Todd’s Bourne Sets the Stage

When the award-winning, Glasgow-based interior design practice IBDP (Interiors by Dominic Paul) were asked to design the latest high-concept restaurant from the Hunky Dory Group, creators of the popular Chaakoo Bombay Café, Panang and Toplabamba, the result was Zhima, a masterful blend of contemporary luxury and traditional Chinese influences.

Every aspect of the design, from the bespoke artwork and statement lighting to the carefully curated furniture, showcases meticulous attention to detail, creating a cohesive and visually stunning dining experience.

This ‘meticulous attention to detail’ extended, of course, to the floor. In a restaurant environment, careful consideration must be given to the functionality of a floor, its durability and splash resistance, as well as practicalities with regard to ongoing maintenance, but beyond these ‘mechanical’ factors, a beautiful floor serves as a foundational element, providing a canvas upon which the rest of the design unfolds, complementing the furniture, lighting, and décor.

IBDP opted to collaborate with Ted Todd, purveyors of fine wood flooring for over 30 years, with their extensive portfolio of prestigious hospitality projects (Benihana, Six by Nico, Skof, The Alchemist) and a wealth of awards (Restaurant & Bar Design Awards, International Hotel & Property Awards, SBID International Interior Design Awards).

Ted Todd’s expert team of specification consultants provided tailored wood flooring recommendations, samples and detailed specification documents, leading IBDP to choose Bourne from Ted Todd’s Project collection, a range of floors that celebrates the natural characteristics of wood, embracing the beauty of nature.

Bourne’s deep tones, both dark and warm, accentuate the knots, colour variation and occasional sap that are the hallmarks of this nature grade European Oak floor, and the considerable plank width (190mm) creates a broad canvas upon which to display these alluring characteristics. 14mm thick with a 3mm wear layer, Bourne offers impressive durability. A hardened oil finish that combines a natural look with a subtle sheen, augments that durability while providing highly effective splash-resistance. FSC certification, the environmental gold standard of the timber industry, is the icing on the cake (or ‘the flowers on the brocade’, to use the equivalent Chinese expression).

Ted Todd’s Bourne plays a strong supporting role in Zhima’s striking design, where grandeur, ambience and intimacy combine to create a dining experience that is not only Instagram-worthy—rich textures, intricate fretwork, thrilling gold accents—but one which is truly unforgettable, simultaneously sophisticated, sumptuous and inviting.

Delano Dubai Hotel

- ELASTIC -

Leading the interior design of the iconic Delano Dubai in collaboration with Ennismore’s in-house design team, ELASTIC reimagined Delano’s legendary style embracing modernity while staying true to the brand’s core ethos. We intended to merge the timelessness of Delano’s design language with the dynamic energy of Dubai encapsulating that same iconic vibe in the new Delano Dubai and bringing its essence to life once again. The veiled arrival at Delano Dubai serves as a signature design feature, immediately setting the tone for the guest experience. ELASTIC designed an iconic arrival experience inspired by Miami’s whimsical hedge and redefined it with sleek green panels that evoke a sense of mystery and intrigue. At the entrance, guests are welcomed by an inviting courtyard where a captivating lounge area seamlessly blurs the lines between indoors and outdoors. The overall design has mindfully infused elements of surprise and discovery, creating a space where guests encounter the unexpected at every turn.

ELASTIC re-envisioned the Rose Bar, paying tribute to the original Miami Beach landmark. Inspired by the original Rose Bar, the interior design team conceived the entire venue as an immersive, jewelbox experience. The mirrors, delicately outlined in petal shapes, subtly reinforce the rose motif while creating a dynamic, playful ambiance that invites both curiosity and interaction. The bar’s flowing contours and the floral-inspired lounge banquettes further enhance the intimate seating arrangements. The inclusion of infinite dance floor tiles and discomotif furniture is a nod to the original creator of the Bar, Ian Schrager, which adds a touch of nostalgic glamour. With rose-hued marble, warm wood tones, tufted velvet banquettes, and an intimate nook the design and palette were inspired by the original Delano Miami Rose Bar, preserving the iconic identity, but elevating it into a modern, exclusive, and vibrant destination. The journey even begins at the exterior, where lush rose plantings engage the senses and set the stage for a memorable arrival experience.

Inside, what was once a transitional corridor has been reconceived as an unexpected continuation of the bar’s immersive ambiance. The interiors of the suites and guestrooms were revamped to reflect a palette dominated by elegant pure whites celebrating the iconic crispness of the signature “Delano White”. This purity is gracefully softened by rich textures, natural materials, and an abundance of natural light. Artistic and eclectic furnishings emerge against the backdrop of white, infusing vibrant hues that transform the ambiance from bustling to brilliantly serene.

ELASTIC’s design for Tutto Passa Restaurant captures the enchanting spirit of the Amalfi Coast with its expansive alfresco dining terrace, set by the pool and mindfully built around the natural beauty of the surrounding trees. A signature ceiling fabric feature, in a soft yellow hue inspired by Amalfi sunsets, gently drapes overhead, softening the space and adding warmth throughout. Traditional elements, such as a built-in oven, contribute to the authentic dining experience while a stunning wine tunnel connecting Tutto Passa and the Rose Bar, bridges day and night. The wine tunnel acts as a “secret” speakeasy-style secondary entrance to the Rose Bar or serves as an exclusive private dining room. Designed as a versatile all-day dining space, it effortlessly transitions from daytime casual elegance to a sophisticated evening ambiance, opening seamlessly onto a garden terrace that merges the indoors with the outdoors.

At the Delano pool, ELASTIC completely transformed an underutilized terrace into a vibrant and distinctive destination, imbuing it with character and purpose. Custom-designed, luxurious outdoor furniture crafted from natural materials and textures complements a palette of fresh, crisp neutrals enriched with timeless brand-inspired patterns. To enhance the guest experience, we mindfully curated diverse seating arrangements that cater to various needs, from casual lounging to elevated dining in a relaxed yet sophisticated setting. Each seating vignette is strategically anchored around the central pool, offering guests stunning views and dynamic vantage points from every angle. Recognizing the brand’s commitment to exclusivity, we incorporated a range of seating options, including private cabanas designed to cater to VIP clientele. Playful design elements and thoughtfully created zones further enliven the space, ensuring an engaging atmosphere that feels both inviting and memorable.

Crystal Orange Hotel, Shanghai Zhongshan Park

- VERMILION ZHOU DESIGN GROUP -

The charm of crystal lies in its flawless and translucent nature. It is precisely because of its purity, free from any impurities, that it can instantly gather brilliance, refract the colours of the rainbow, and transform into a dazzling, vibrant spectacle under the caress of light.

Crystal light

“Crystal Clear” is as transparent and clear as the crystal itself. When viewed through a crystal glass, time-honed whiskey reflects an amber glow. The perfect fusion of “quality” and “esthesis” intermingles during the clinking of glasses, enveloping the senses in comfort and purity, and allowing the body and mind to gradually relax.

Crystal shine

The resplendent starlight dazzles, and the dreamy haze after a slight intoxication blurs the senses. Guided by light, passing through moments of cleansing and transformation, the brilliance of crystal flows freely through different mediums and spaces, comfortably and effortlessly, gradually filtering out the disturbances of the external world. Its brilliance is radiant, but not overwhelming, and energy instantly fills the heart.

Crystal color

The revival of brilliance comes from the soothing and healing of the five senses. The softness felt at your fingertips tenderly caresses every inch of your skin; fragrances slowly emanate through the crystal, gently penetrating your spirit, silently relaxing every taut nerve. The rich aroma of coffee and tea glides effortlessly over your palate, bringing pure enjoyment. A sip of fine whiskey, a slight intoxication, quietly releases the tension in your body and mind, immersing you in a moment of calm and relaxation. Effortlessly adjusting your state, inner energy is reignited, radiating confidence and elegance in the best form.

Crystal Orange Hotel offers an elegant, but not extravagant, pure, yet unpretentious accommodation experience through the cleansing and transformation of light. It filters out the noise and unease of travel, allowing you to shine with your unique light after each moment of rest.

HBF TEXTILES draw on inspiration found in nature, so creating surface texture is part of HBF’s DNA and coupling that with patterning, which is at times organic or structured, gives us additional dimensional character. Piatti Restaurant

- IVY STUDIO -

For over 15 years, Piatti has been a culinary institution on the North Shore of Montreal. Located in what was once a small ancient stone residence, the building was extended a few decades ago to accommodate a larger commercial space. Over a year ago, the reputable Italian restaurant has fallen victim to a devastating fire, damaging the majority of the roof structure and interior. However, from this tragedy rose the opportunity to give the space a much needed facelift.

The building is two storeys high, with the restaurants main entrance located at the lower level, where the preparation kitchen, private event room and washrooms are located. As clients enter and walk up the main staircase, they discover the dining areas, kitchen and waterfront terrace.

The main floor is divided into three distinct dining rooms, each with their own unique atmosphere. The bar is located in the original stone house and provides a very dimmed and cozy ambiance. In the more modern extension of the building is the main dining area, where exterior openings have been substantially enlarged, allowing direct circulation onto the terrace and bringing more natural light into the open space. Separated from this main space with a fluted glass

partition is an intimate room meant for more private occasions.

While the overall esthetic is very contemporary, the décor was inspired by traditional Italian design and includes textures, materials and colours that project clients directly to the Mediterranean. Well known for their signature pizza selection, Piatti needed a pizza oven that stood out, and that it does. A monumental green Saint-Denis marble structure sits at the center of the restaurant, welcoming clients as they walk in. In front, a large curved black stained wood and marble counter serves as a dining surface, service and pizza stations throughout its length. Across the room, a pistachio green, hand plastered, double arched chicane leads servers from the dining room to the closed kitchen. To its right, a deep sienna velvet banquette floats in front of a fully mirrored wall, doubling the depth of the open space.

At the center of the room, a patterned marble inlay breaks the continuity of the natural oak flooring. As you walk through the ancient stone walls and over the marble threshold, you enter the dim lit bar area. The U-shaped bar structure itself is covered with vertical oak boards and supports a 4 inch thick travertine

surface. Above, a hanging steel structure serves to store dozens of bottles, all the while putting them on display through a backlit fluted glass panel. The entire room has recessed lighting going around the ceiling to properly highlight the original stone walls in the evening.

Aside from the soft general lighting, many different fixtures are used to create various moods throughout the restaurant. Symmetrically installed on the two wide mirrored walls, a series of thick ring-shaped ceramic lamps light up the banquette tables. In the bar, an original vintage glass pendant hangs above the corner table. Each of the two marble counters holds several seamlessly installed custom arched surface lamps, meant for intimate lighting for discussions at the bar. Larger versions of these cream painted cylinder lights were assembled together into a bouquet, creating a unique chandelier hanging above the central round dining table.

Most of the seating in the space is comprised of classic bistro chairs and stools, varying in colour and materials. The bar contains custom designed stools that are made up of the same steel, wood and velvet found scattered throughout the restaurant.

Contributing to the subdued evening atmosphere of the spaces are floor-to-ceiling sheer curtains that cover most of the cream coloured walls. The long wall that follows the main staircase, among others, is covered with a hand made plaster finish, as well as a glossy black ceramic that extends onto the marble pizza oven’s base. In front of this said wall hang a limited series of three plaster paintings, designed in collaboration with a local artist specifically for the restaurant.

Ellis Design Studio Designs Spectacular Cocktail Bar, Control Room B, Battersea Power Station.

DESIGN STUDIO -

Multi-award-winning Interior Designers, Ellis Design Studio have designed a spectacular new cocktail bar venue within Control Room B of at the very heart of the newly redeveloped Battersea Power Station. Battersea Power Station is a Grade II* listed, global architectural icon and one of London’s most recognisable landmarks and has recently re-opened after a multi-billion-pound redevelopment.

Control Room B originally helped manage the distribution of a fifth of London’s electricity, supplying power to some of London’s most recognisable landmarks such as the Houses of Parliament and Buckingham Palace. The spectacular new bar venue comprises 4,500sqft and is set amongst the panels of historic dials and switches of the original Control Room.

Control Room B was completed in 1955 as a counterpart to the original Control Room A, built in the 1930’s. The Control Room was built in the austere Modernist style

CASE STUDY

of the post war period and the space is defined by the dramatic arc of the original stainless steel control desk, set against a backdrop of full height anthracitecoloured switchgear racks. The walls and octagonal columns feature original faience tiles in a delicate pale blue, contrasting against the beautifully brutalist machine aesthetic of the control panels.

For the first time ever, members of the public will be able to get up close to the Control Room’s historic dials and controls, which helped manage the distribution of a London’s electricity when the Power Station was operational.

The original Control Room fittings and switchgear complex are defining features of the space and have been fully restored as part of the regeneration of the Power Station. The iconic dials & switches have previously formed the backdrop to famous movie scenes and album covers, from the Beatles film Help to rock band Hawkweed’s album Quark .

Working on such a high profile and historically significant part of the Power Station required Ellis Design Studio to be extremely conscious of both aesthetic and technical considerations when devising the design scheme. The entirely freestanding design was carefully conceived by the Studio to ensure the design was sympathetic to the existing architecture yet felt anchored within the space as a new hospitality venue.

The space has been arranged in a circular configuration, inspired by both the arched form of the existing historic stainless steel control desks and by the radial forms of the original Power Station turbine blades.

The design for the bar involved the creation of a spectacular turbine-inspired, metallic sculptural centrepiece, paying tribute to the character and form of Battersea Power Station’s electric, industrial history. An illuminated radial metal canopy adorned with delicately perforated metal fins encircles an existing central column, lending a sense of energy, movement and permeability.

The outer edge of the bar is surrounded by a dramatic wing-like arc of metallic lights, signifying the rebirth of the Power Station. Alan Ellis MD of Ellis Design Studio added “The design of the bar, with its radial canopy, seeks to capture the forms and momentum of the original power station turbines. The semi-circular sweep of arced feature lights to the outer edge of the bar is designed to suggest the capturing of a moment in time between rotational movements, thereby creating a sense of tension, anticipation and dynamism” Similarly, the utilitarian aesthetic of Control Room B closely informed the selection of materials for the scheme.

The bar is fabricated almost entirely of metal in a variety of forms and finishes. Amber hued, domed textured lights to the bar front are suggestive of the viewing portholes into the original coal furnaces, which powered the turbines.

The materiality of the design scheme paid homage to the machine-age aesthetic, using aged brass, blackened & lacquered steels and various patinated & pleated metals, set against warm hued, custom laserprinted timbers.

Bespoke lighting to the bar top and canopy was inspired by a brutalist aesthetic and was fabricated from fluted glass, antique brass and patinated aluminium. Furniture and upholstery selections were informed by mid-century patterns & pastel hued palettes, providing a softer juxtaposition to the coolness of the original metals and tiles within the space.

The design of the venue has been carefully calibrated by Ellis Design Studio to ensure it both complements and showcases the dramatic surrounding original features of this landmark, historic space.

“Battersea Power Station is a global architectural icon and has long been a source of inspiration to the Studio. Designing a brand-new bar venue within Control Room B was incredibly exciting project to be asked to create.

Having the opportunity to work within Battersea Power Station is a privilege for any designer and being appointed to work on such an iconic space as Control Room B was a huge honour for the Studio”. Alan Ellis, Founder & MD at Ellis Design Studio.

The venue has been designed to create a beautifully atmospheric, conceptual space, which fuses the utilitarian beauty of the Control Rooms Brutalist aesthetic with the joy and optimism of post war, mid-century British design. “With its meticulously calibrated aesthetic, the design for Control Room B pays homage to the dawn of the modern age, fusing the vibrancy of British mid-century design with the austere beauty of Brutalism and the dynamism and energy of mechanical forms”. Alan Ellis, Founder & MD at Ellis Design Studio

Reinventing The Runnymede

- CONTRACT FURNITURE GROUP -

How Contract Furniture Group Helped Redefine a Classic Venue

Moving from Business to Pleasure

Located near Windsor, The Runnymede on Thames Hotel and Spa is known for its classic style and picturesque riverside views. In late 2023, Warner Leisure Hotels acquired the site, aiming to transform it from a business-focused venue into a countryside retreat. The multi-million-pound refurbishment began in early 2024 and was completed by late September.

A Study in Form and Function

The ambitious transformation included updates to 250 rooms, restaurants, and entertainment spaces. Having previously worked with Warner Leisure Hotels on projects like Heythrop Hall, Contract Furniture Group was initially tasked with refurbishing the bedrooms, including 25 new rooms. However, after delivering an exceptional sample room, the firm expanded its role to include public areas such as Market Kitchen, Brasserie32, and the Live Lounge.

Collaborating with New York-based Virserius Studio, Contract Furniture Group played a key role in bringing the vision to life over 11 months.

Opulence in Abundance

The Runnymede’s new aesthetic embraces a glamorous 1970s studio vibe, featuring bold patterns, rich velvets, and gold accents. Contract Furniture Group crafted bespoke loose furniture for the restaurants, bars, and Live Lounge, aligning with the luxurious theme. Key pieces include Alice and Bergen Lounge Chairs in the

Live Lounge and Ambrosia Side Chairs in Brasserie32, each with gold-tipped feet. Marble quartz tabletops, alongside Zeus and Atlas table bases with gold finishes, enhanced the opulence, while casual dining areas incorporated durable laminate tops with Aldeburgh Table Bases.

Style with Sustainability

A key service was the Refresh, Rejuvenate, Refurbish offering. Many existing furniture pieces were reupholstered and refinished, extending their lifespan. Fixed seating in the Market Kitchen was refreshed to match the new design. Additionally, custom joinery, including lobby desks with marble tops and wall cladding for the Holiday Hub, added a refined touch.

Timeless Bentwood Classics by Ton

The foundation of Ton’s success lies in its unique steam bending technique, a process that transforms quality beech wood into graceful, durable shapes. Mastered over generations at the factory in Bystřice pod Hostýnem, the process creates the seamless curves that define Ton’s most famous chairs. The precision of hand bending, combined with the natural elasticity of wood, creates furniture that is both remarkably strong and elegantly light — ideal for hospitality environments where comfort and aesthetics go hand in hand.

While industrial techniques have evolved, Ton remains committed to the art of hand bending wood. The process begins with locally sourced beech, which is softened using only steam. Skilled craftsmen then shape the wood by hand, allowing it to naturally follow its new curve before allowing it to harden, ensuring that each piece retains its strength and flexibility. The result is not only a hallmark of craftsmanship, but also a symbol of sustainable, time-honoured production.

Icons of Bentwood Design

Few designs embody the beauty of steam bending as elegantly as Chair No. 14 — often called the ‘chair of chairs’. Designed in the 1850s, it remains one of the most recognisable café chairs in the world, its airy, curved frame a direct result of this time-honoured craft. Over a century later, its legacy continues with Chair No. 314,

a modern reinterpretation by the Swedish studio Claesson Koivisto Rune, which refines the original form while maintaining its unmistakable character.

This seamless fusion of tradition and innovation is evident throughout Ton’s collection. Chair No. 18 builds on the elegance of Chair No. 14, offering a fully enclosed backrest for enhanced comfort while retaining its signature lightweight form. Similarly, Chair and Armchair No. 20 strikes a balance between craftsmanship and ergonomics, with its subtly curved backrest providing support while maintaining a delicate, sophisticated profile.

For those who appreciate understated strength, Armchair No. 30 offers a slightly sturdier frame, where carefully bent wooden elements create both visual softness and lasting durability. This model, along with Armchair No. 33, has been associated with the legendary architect Le Corbusier, who was said to favor its timeless design. Their elegant yet functional forms embody the essence of modernist seating.

Meanwhile, the No. 811 collection of chairs and armchairs, originally designed by Josef Hoffmann, adds another dimension to bentwood furniture by incorporating woven cane — a subtle yet striking contrast in texture. This legacy continues with Chair No. 822, where Claesson Koivisto Rune have reimagined Hoffmann’s aesthetic, adapting it for contemporary interiors while preserving its distinctive proportions.

Where Craftsmanship Meets Hospitality

More than just a technique, steam bending is Ton’s signature — a process that gives life to curves that feel natural, fluid and timeless. It’s what makes these chairs as much works of art as they are functional seating. With over 160 years of continuous production, the factory continues to define the world of bentwood furniture, offering pieces that have become an integral part of the hospitality industry.

Each of these designs is a testament to Ton’s commitment to craftsmanship. From elegant hotel lobbies to intimate dining rooms, these timeless chairs create an atmosphere of understated sophistication. Every curve, every bend tells a story of craftsmanship, ensuring that each chair is not just a place to sit, but a reflection of over a century and a half of design excellence.

Keylite provides bespoke roof windows for landmark Amsterdam hotel

- KEYLITE -

Keylite Roof Windows (Keylite) aided with the major restoration of the five-star luxury Conservatorium hotel in Amsterdam, Netherlands, by providing 263 non-standard conservation roof windows in bespoke sizes.

Adjacent to some of Amsterdam’s cultural hotspots, the Conservatorium hotel began as a former bank and soon after a music school. Now, it stands proud as one of the most beautifully designed hotels in Amsterdam, boasting 129 rooms and suites, six meeting and event venues, and a luxury wellness centre.

Sympathetically restored by award-winning Milanbased designer and architect Piero Lissoni, this spectacular building fuses simplicity and functionality, with contemporary updates including clean lines and elegant glasswork.

The high-profile restoration of this historic Amsterdam building into a luxury hotel required Keylite to work in close collaboration with the constructor Structon to manufacture and supply 263 specially designed roof window units in completely non-standard sizes ranging from 660x1500mm to 780x2000mm.

Mike Ensing, National Manager at Keylite Holland, said: “The Conservatorium is truly a fantastic hotel in the heart of Amsterdam. Originally a bank, the space at the top of the original building was closed and dark, and Lissoni’s vision was to allow natural light and fresh air in through large windows.

“Being a national monument, the strict legislation regarding the building’s historical nature meant that disrupting the structural body, beams and brickwork was out of the question. Carefully curated windows, fully approved by Monument Care, were the only solution to achieve Lissoni’s biophilic design of bringing the outdoors in.

“As a conservation building, special monument glass was required for each of the Keylite roof windows, which was shipped from Holland to the Keylite factory in Poland and then cut to non-standard sizes. It was clear that Keylite was specified for this project because we could deliver something tailor-made that other manufacturers couldn’t fulfil.”

Another carefully thought-out design feature; the bronze trim specified for the glazing on each of the Keylite roof windows not only contributes to the contemporary yet timeless aesthetic, but also provides sound reducing benefits, which is an important consideration for this magnificent city centre hotel.

Keylite offers a range of conservation roof windows for traditional or renovation projects. For more information, please visit www.keyliteroofwindows.com, call 01283 200 158 or email info@keyliteuk.com.

Efficient Cleaning, Efficient Service

- TORK -

Hospitality facilities are for more than just eating and sleeping, they are used for relaxing, socialising and networking. Clean hotels and restaurants are a must for managers who want to satisfy guests, and stand a chance of having them return. But because of their multiple use cases they can be tricky places to keep clean. Fortunately, the Tork range of cleaning products and services is here to help.

Efficient Cleaning, Efficient Service

One challenge hotels and restaurants face is the number of cleaning stations, washrooms and bedrooms dotted around the facility. It is therefore no surprise that 71 per cent* of cleaners wish their washrooms’ systems were easier to refill as this can be a drain on time, that could be better spent ensuring front of house settings are sparkling. The new compressed Tork Xpress® multifold hand towels are ideal for public areas, they increase efficiency with compressed refills allowing the dispensers to hold up to 50 per cent more towels**, meaning they can serve twice the number of guests before refilling.

Hygiene For All

Barriers to pursuing comfortable hygiene in washrooms challenge people every day; some barriers are visible, others are not. Washroom users can be challenged by a wide range of factors including the inability to access soap and hand towel dispensers, loud noises, lack of privacy or cleanliness. According to the inaugural 2024 Tork Insight Survey***, many individuals are not comfortable using a public

washroom, which negatively impacts their well-being. This keeps them from participating in social activities – including enjoying food and drink in public . The survey showed that 44 percent of people feel anxious about using public washrooms, with 73 percent saying a bad washroom experience affects their likelihood of returning. Many individuals around the world face barriers, discomfort, and anxiety when using public washrooms. As suppliers, it’s our responsibility at Tork to make it easier for hospitality venues to adopt inclusive practices that benefit everyone.

Tork empowers hospitality venues to rethink the overall experience, improve workplace satisfaction, make cleaning more efficient and reimagine ways to become more sustainable.

Bringing real flavour to the table

- OTC BEVERAGES -

My brand of non alcoholic beverages was born as idea in 2017, when I attended my fathers birthday party. I felt there was a gap to be filled as the drinks tasted good, were made with minimal ingredients and had benefits associated with drinking them. I wanted to take the same products and elevate them. Create the same recipes with quality ingredients, refreshing taste and wrapped in packaging that had a premium look and feel. I realised early on that I did not want to just create a drink, I wanted to create a Brand. A brand that could make a difference and leave a legacy for my children and my nephew. I researched a manufacturer, did a course on Public food Health and passed the exam. Within three months of launching, we were shortlisted for the best drinks category at the Food Matters Event in Excel: in 2020, we were shortlisted in the Fruit Juices and Mixers category, in 2021, E2 Media Food & Beverages award and I won international Business Woman’s of the Year Award 2022.

In addition to the above, we have been included in the Mah Rainey Movie and MoBo celeb Xmas hampers in 2020.

In 2022, we attended the NOPE Event in Excel London, an event we had waited to attend for 2 years. It was a great success for us, as we were finalists in our category, Best organic Drink. the following morning one of the judges visited the stand to congratulate us on creating a great drink.

In the midst of the pandemic we launched our new flavour, Butterfly Pea Flower with Juice. The new flavour was well received and we entered the product in the Great British Food awards. The judges give a high mark of 15 as an assessment, our new flavour scored

12/15, which is a great watermark that confirms we are doing the right thing with our product development.

In 2021, we worked with an up and coming Director on a movie called ‘On the Other Foot” our beverages were used as product placement in the movie and we were recognised in the credits as a partner. We will be working with the same director on his next movie which is being filmed right now. We are so excited about these partnerships. WE have a number of events coming up in the year, one of which is us being a partner of the St James House Group Platinum Jubilee Celebrations - Strive for Perfection - with the Rolls Royce Enthusiasts Club. OTC will be featured in a commemerative book that will be issued to all the owners of Rolls Royce and Bentley’ along with all of the showrooms. We have achieved a lot in the 5 years that we have been in business and we are looking forward to gaining more customers and becoming a household brand.

Thank you for your support, as we could not do this without you. www.otcbeverages.com

Lanchester Wines Expands Portfolio with Burgundy Wines and Ratafia from Champagne’s Famille Moutard

- LANCHESTER WINES -

Lanchester Wines is proud to unveil an exclusive new range of Burgundy wines alongside a unique ratafia liqueur as part of its 2025 portfolio, produced by Famille Moutard, a name synonymous with topquality Champagne.

The newly-launched Burgundy still wines include two Chablis cuvées, at village level and premium Premier Cru from Côte de Léchet; two further Burgundy Chardonnays, an AOC Bourgogne and a Bourgogne Tonnerre AOC; two Pinot Noirs, an AOC Bourgogne and a coveted Gevrey-Chambertin; plus two relatively unusual wines from lesser-known Burgundy varieties, Aligoté and Sauvignon Blanc.

The Ratafia Champenois Six Cépages is a blend of six Champagne grapes - Arbane, Chardonnay, Petite Meslier, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Menier and Pinot Noirdistilled into a sweet, artisanal liqueur.

The move follows the successful introduction in 2023 of a range of Champagnes from Famille Moutard into the growing Lanchester Wines portfolio, including a Grande Cuvée Brut, a Cuvée des 6 Cépages, featuring six of the eight approved Champagne varieties, and a rare cuvée produced exclusively from old vine Arbane.

In 2004, François Moutard purchased land in Burgundy, marking the expansion of the family’s winemaking expertise beyond their roots in Champagne. This acquisition allowed the family to craft wines that express the unique terroirs of Burgundy while maintaining their tradition of quality and precision.

While the Premier Cru Chablis and Gevrey-Chambertin will undoubtedly appeal to Burgundy aficionados, the Aligoté and Saint-Bris Sauvignon Blanc, from the only appellation approved for Sauvignon Blanc in Burgundy, will excite wine explorers.

Lanchester Wines’ director of sales, Mark Roberts, says the new wines reflect the growing importance of premium wines within the Lanchester portfolio: “The Moutard Champagnes have been a huge hit with our customers, so we are beyond excited to be launching these exceptional still wines, showcasing the diversity of Burgundy’s terroir as well as the craft skills that have been passed down the generations of the Moutard family, which is also reflected in this rare ratafia.”

Benoît Moutard, winemaker for Famille Moutard, says the wines also reflect the importance of family ownership: “Twenty years ago my father, François, had the great foresight to see the potential of the Burgundy region, expanding our winemaking beyond the borders of Champagne. Today I am honoured to be upholding our tradition of family ownership, working closely with our partners at another great family business in the UK, Lanchester Wines.”

The launch reflects the deepening of the relationship between Famille Moutard, who has been making wine since 1642, and Lanchester Wines, established in 1980 by Tony and Veronica Cleary, from their living room in County Durham.

High Altitude Project – Bettiol Architecture Firm Designs The Principe Delle Nevi Hotel

- BETTIOL ARCHITECTURE -

Situated in a privileged position on the Alpe Giomein within the mountain resort of Breuil-Cervinia in the middle of the ski slopes, the Hotel Principe delle Nevi was designed by Bettiol Architecture Studio of Aosta. It was built in two distinct stages, crowning a collaboration that began in 2008 between the client –the McNeill family, and Bettiol Architecture.

Two architectural interventions and two identities that gave birth to an original and contemporary structure characterised by a well-defined concept: to offer guests a unique holiday experience, with a linear but sophisticated style and attention to detail; to redefine the concept of hospitality by offering modern, chic and contemporary Italian design in Cervinia, in a mountainous environment but with a classic chalet touch.

The first phase of construction of the Principe delle Nevi Hotel dates back to 2008. It has recently continued with a second phase and the construction

of an ex-novo structure consisting of the extension of the existing one – a project with a visionary design that anticipates current trends in hospitality for a more digital, international and dynamic clientele. The firm, coordinated by the architect Mariapia Bettiol, has been entrusted with the architectural and interior design project of this new space with the aim of expressing all the creativity and interpreting the client’s needs in order to develop environments that would represent a modern boutique hotel characterised by a warm soul and a welcoming atmosphere.

The two structures of the Hotel Principe delle Nevi are connected by an underground tunnel of approximately 80 metres in length that crosses the mountain and encloses the hotel. This tunnel has been transformed into an exhibition gallery – a wine cellar where wine can be stored and displayed for tastings, a tribute to the breathtaking panoramas of Italy and its wines, giving the tunnel a clear identity, which goes

beyond the logistical and functional characteristics of the connection between the two hotel spaces.

The new accommodation is characterised by exclusive spaces with a high level of comfort and a large surface area. Guests are welcomed in the basement by a second reception area. On the same floor there is a multipurpose room for fitness and yoga, characterised by slits of light that create a mirrored space, and an area for luggage storage and the ski room, in addition to the one already present in the original structure.

The new extension covers a very large area divided into several floors, with a total of 7 suites on the first floor, 4 suites on the second floor ranging in size from about 40 to 75 square metres, and 1 suite of approximately 200 square metres on the top floor, with a kitchen, a living room, a dining room, bedrooms and a mezzanine - a true modern luxury flat. On the second floor there is also a terrace with a solarium function, which can be used by all guests.

The rooms have been studied and created with a strong design personality and equipped with everything necessary for comfort. The rooms communicate with each other through doors concealed by elegant and aesthetically discreet sliding mirrors. Their function is to connect but also to divide, in order to give the client freedom to enlarge or not the spaces and to guarantee total privacy for separate reservations.

The private spa suites are a new feature added to each room. They consist of a sauna or Turkish bath and a Jacuzzi located outside on the private terrace, offering guests a moment of complete relaxation in complete privacy and with a view on the ski slopes. The private in-room spa suites offer all the services of a spa combined with the comfort of a suite. A spacious lounge completes the spaces of the new suites. The bathroom area has been designed to create an open and harmonious space.

Architect Mariapia Bettiol’s work also included the former common areas, to accommodate a larger number of guests, and the Snowflake restaurant, with its refined and exclusive design, bringing guests into a comfortable environment for a quality dining experience.

The furnishings, designed by the architect Bettiol, were provided by the interior contractor Concreta, which specialises in the design, production and supply of customised, made-to-measure furniture. The choice of materials was based on the use of wood and stoneware, which gives the structure a modern and elegant look. Every element and furnishing accessory were chosen in a synergic relationship with the client and customised to their requirements.

For the external parts of the structure, the material chosen is larch wood in large format with a sheet metal roof. The idea was to create a non-invasive building that would blend in perfectly with its surroundings. The use of rocks in the lower part emphasises the profound relationship between the structure and the place where it is located, to give the feeling that the building was born from the mountain itself: recalling the mountains, following the slope and continuing the play with the ground, giving the building the same angular lines as the mountain. The basement of the building was therefore covered with rocks, between which the natural greenery typical of the Cervinia area was born, thus creating vertical green play on the rocks.

How hospitality businesses can call time on nuisance parking

- CREATIVE CAR PARK -

Those in the hospitality sector will know how important your car park is in creating an overall positive experience for your customers and guests.

Their visit begins the moment they enter your car park, so you want to ensure they have a convenient and safe space to leave their vehicles. If there are no spaces available due to people abusing your parking provision, they will have to park elsewhere – which may delay their visit and cause frustration. This may result in online reviews highlighting parking issues, or worse, they may be forced to abandon their visit altogether, impacting footfall and revenue.

What is the true cost of nuisance and unauthorised parking? At Creative Car Park we continually monitor car park data and our research shows that losses could be considerable. A pub or restaurant with 20 car park spaces and an average customer spend of £25 typically loses around £300 a week because of nuisance parking. That’s the equivalent of missing out on sales of 45 glasses of wine or 60 pints of beer!

So what can businesses do to deter poor parking behaviour? We have been managing car parks on behalf of clients for 20 years and our recommended solution is to introduce intelligent enforcement technology. This involves using Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras to monitor every vehicle that enters and exits your site. Parking for customers can remain free – they just need to register their vehicle using their mobile phone or a handy tablet located inside your premises. Pay to park options are also available. To deter misuse, anyone who fails to register their vehicle, or otherwise breaches the agreed parking terms and conditions, will be automatically issued with a Parking

Charge Notice (PCN). The PCN is sent through the post, so it’s completely non-confrontational and hassle-free.

Creative Car Park has a long history of helping hospitality businesses solve their parking problems and we currently manage more than 350 sites in the sector, covering pubs, eateries, restaurants and hotels. Our effective ANPR-powered solution helps them take back control of their car parks and lets them concentrate on their business, not parking.

The Energy Crisis in Hospitality: A Zero Standing Charge Solution in Sight?

TOMATO ENERGY -

The UK hospitality industry continues to face an unprecedented energy crisis, with ever increasing bills threatening the survival of thousands of pubs, bars and restaurants. With energy costs emerging as the single biggest concern for many businesses, industry leaders are calling for immediate action to address these rising expenses.

Without fair energy rates, businesses are left exposed to crippling costs, pushing many to the brink of closure. The challenge of maintaining profitability is compounded by long-term, high-cost energy contracts that leave little room for mid-term flexibility or negotiation.

While government intervention, including VAT relief and business rates reform, remains a key consideration, hospitality businesses now have a viable solution at their fingertips. Tomato Energy’s Zero Standing Charge and Time of Use tariffs provide a game-changing approach to tackling high energy costs, offering an immediate and practical alternative to traditional business energy contracts.

Tomato Energy’s innovative Zero Standing Charge tariff eliminates fixed fees, ensuring businesses only pay for the energy they actually use. This is a major shift from traditional pricing structures that burden

hospitality businesses with high fixed charges, even when energy consumption is low. Additionally, Tracker tariffs empower businesses to adjust their energy preferences and take maximum advantage of cheap wholesale rates, potentially leading to additional cost savings.

For an industry already operating on tight margins, these solutions offer a much-needed lifeline. By leveraging flexible energy pricing, businesses can regain control over their expenses and redirect savings into growth, job creation and community investment.

The hospitality industry cannot afford to wait for government intervention alone. With energy costs at the heart of the crisis, businesses must explore every available avenue to reduce expenses. Tomato Energy’s Zero Standing Charge and Time of Use tariffs present a clear and immediate opportunity to take back control, offering a sustainable and cost-effective way forward in these challenging times.

“After more than five decades in business, we know what matters when it comes to uniforms. Style, durability and comfort are non-negotiables, but they must also support a hotels’ business ethos and offer value for money,” says Director, Jan Roby. “We’re a one-stop uniform shop, catering for every department, from fully lined, elegant jackets for front of house to practical tunics for housekeeping and effortlessly stylish spa styles. Our uniforms are hand designed, made and tested in-house, and cut to allow movement. Every style is interchangeable, to maximise the number of outfit options hotels can create.”

Florence Roby uses UK manufactured Softex fabric, one of the most modern fabric technologies on the market. It’s non-iron and non-crease, with enough stretch for comfort but the resilience to look great even after multiple washes. Later this year, Florence Roby will also introduce a new 57% recycled fabric.

A family affair

Founded by a tailoress from St. Helens more than 50 years ago, today Florence Roby is run by her children and grandchildren, and remains dedicated to maintaining Florence’s core ethos of design innovation, quality and comfort.

Its fully localised garment production chain means Florence Roby offers sustainable, environmentally friendly workwear. All products are made in either the UK factory or partner facility in Europe and fabric is woven in Nottingham. Unlike much of the clothing industry, which relies on Far East production, Florence Roby guarantees local, transparent, ethical operations, reducing the carbon footprint associated with long-distance shipping.

“Manufacturing close to home gives us full control,” says Jan. “Since Brexit, we’ve actually expanded UK production, so we’re always able to meet customer demand without delays caused by customs. We really do fly the flag for UK manufacturing in every way, and have done for many years.”

Size matters

Every range is available in sizes six to 26, plus maternity sizes. Florence Roby also offers bespoke options, such as embroidered logos, and made-tomeasure options. “You can’t underestimate the positive impact a beautifully fitting uniform has on staff; every employee deserves to feel empowered by what they wear,” says Jan. “We craft all our garments to work well at work. Professional appearances matter but so does feeling great in your uniform.”

Swiftclean – Ensuring Safety and Compliance in Hospitality.

- SWIFTCLEAN -

Award-winning air and water hygiene specialist, Swiftclean, provides comprehensive kitchen extract fire safety and general ventilation cleaning services, catering to some of the UK’s leading hospitality providers with multiple locations, as well as numerous independent establishments across the country.

Managing Director Gary Nicholls is a respected authority in this field, serving as a co-author of the Building and Engineering Services Association (BESA) specifications, TR19®Air and TR19®Grease. These documents are recognised as the leading guidance regarding the internal cleanliness of ventilation systems, which is essential for ensuring the safety and efficiency of kitchen extract and general ventilation systems in the UK.

Additionally, Swiftclean is a long-standing member of the Legionella Control Association. The company offers specialised legionella control services, advising and implementing effective risk management strategies for hotels, pubs, restaurants, and catering establishments. This multifaceted approach ensures that clients not only comply with health and safety regulations but also protect their patrons from the risks associated with legionella outbreaks.

“Regrettably, the services we offer, such as kitchen extract fire safety cleaning and legionella prevention often do not receive the emphasis they warrant in the management of hotels, pubs, and restaurants,” observes Gary Nicholls. “With so many operational challenges to juggle, proprietors may overlook these critical safety measures.”

“However, it is imperative to perform thorough and regular kitchen extract fire safety cleaning to mitigate the risk of fire. Additionally, conducting a legionella

risk assessment and, if deemed necessary, testing for legionella bacteria, is essential in preventing potentially severe outbreaks. Neglecting these critical responsibilities can lead to significant legal repercussions for building managers or owners, including prosecution and, in severe cases, custodial sentences.”

To help address some of the challenges faced by those in responsible positions, Swiftclean has developed a range of ‘packaged’ services. These packages offer a discount when two or more services are ordered together. This approach not only provides cost savings but also saves building managers the time required to manage multiple contractors.

Through its commitment to safety and compliance, Swiftclean strives to ensure that its clients maintain a safe environment for both their staff and patrons.

Is your hospitality business prepared for DEFRA’s Simpler Recycling legislation?

- LEAFIELD ENVIRONMENTAL -

The hospitality sector is one of the many industries facing unique challenges in preparation for DEFRA’s ‘Simpler Recycling’ legislation, which comes into force in England from 31 March 2025.

‘Simpler Recycling’ seeks to standardise the collection of dry recyclable waste across councils in England. In practice, businesses and non-domestic premises with ten or more full-time employees will be the first required to sort their waste into four separate streams: general waste, food waste, paper and card, and dry mixed recycling. Failure to comply can result in being issued a compliance notice from the Environment Agency – not only a reputational bruise, but one that can come hand-in hand with a penalty fine.

How will the Simpler Recycling legislation affect the hospitality sector?

Hospitality businesses will need to implement a method of capturing and disposing of recyclable waste in the new four separate waste streams both internally (e.g. a commercial kitchen), and from the public.

This starts with completing an audit of how commercial waste is currently managed, and applying the necessary changes to ensure the type of recycling bins

on offer match up with the new requirements for four waste streams. The most efficient solution would be to install a bin with separate apertures to accommodate general waste and recyclable waste as required by the new Simpler Recycling legislation.

Try to make it as easy as possible for staff and customers alike to dispose of recyclable waste correctly by standardising the types of bins available, using bin signage with WRAP-compliant colours schemes and labels, and ensuring the bins have a high enough capacity to avoid overflow or comingling.

Simpler Recycling with Leafield Environmental Leafield recommends the following recycling bins to keep your hospitality business compliant with DEFRA’s new Simpler Recycling legislation.

New Life, Italian company awarded for sustainable innovation

- NEW LIFE -

New Life, an established Italian furniture company, stands as a pioneer in sustainable innovation, earning significant achievements.

Founded in 2009 by Ondina and Alessio Battisacco alongside Andrea Costantini, New Life embodies the evolution of two artisanal companies active since 1970.

For the past 15 years, the company has been designing and producing high-end furniture, which it distributes globally, catering to the contract, luxury residential, and cruise markets.

At the 2024 Milan Design Week, the company unveiled the “L’Ala Outdoor” Collection, designed by Marco Zito.

Made from Italian recycled aluminum, the collection embodies the company’s focus on circular economy. Aluminum was chosen for its combination of lightness, durability, and exceptional sustainability, as it can be recycled indefinitely without compromising its properties.

The collection features dining chairs, lounges, barstools and tables, each thoughtfully designed with attention to every stage of production. From manufacturing to packaging and the recycling of materials at the end of the product’s life cycle, every step plays a crucial role.

The idea draws inspiration from the natural world. Much like the Art Nouveau designers who stylised floral and organic forms to reintroduce nature into the time’s modern life, L’Ala Outdoor was envisioned as an organic evolution of a flower petal. L’Ala represents nature, a place to dive in to find knowledge, inspiration and creativity.

L’Ala is also the goddess of fertility in Igbo mythology, Mother Earth welcoming you in her warm embrace.

Thanks to its sustainable qualities, the “L’Ala Outdoor PL01” lounge chair received the esteemed Sustainable Design Award at the 2024 Archiproducts Awards.

This lounge chair combines elegance and sustainability, crafted from recycled aluminum, stained with sustainable materials, and packaged in 75% recycled content.

With a 97% material recovery rate, the L’Ala Outdoor collection stands as an excellent example of circular economy principles, reinforcing New Life’s environmental commitment.

In 2022, the company published its first Sustainability Report, outlining New Life’s vision for a responsible, sustainable future.

A leader in wood craftsmanship, with this collection New Life offers innovative solutions to designers and contractors, while blending artisanal skills with ecoconscious innovation.

Simple yet Powerful Next Generation Cloud POS and Label Printing

- STAR MICRONICS -

With rising operational costs and evolving customer expectations alongside the need to embrace more sustainable practices, the hospitality industry faces a range of challenges. Adapting to industry shifts while balancing efficiency with exceptional service requires venues to take advantage of technology that can help to streamline operations, reduce costs and enhance the guest experience.

By adopting simple yet powerful next generation food ordering and label printing solutions venues can benefit from the tools to successfully turn these challenges into opportunities. In particular, businesses can effectively adopt or expand omnichannel technology to meet evolving customer expectations and boost efficiencies.

Feature-rich hardware with flexible connectivity allows for scalability, while providing a future-proof solution that can meet changing needs as the business expands. Moreover, hardware that is straightforward to set up and allows a venue to be up and running within minutes and serving customers quickly is invaluable.

Star TSP143IV X4 and TSP143IVSK X4

As the latest models within one of international POS hardware solutions provider Star Micronics’ most established and successful printer ranges, the recently launched TSP143IV X4 receipt and order printer and TSP143IVSK X4 linerless label printer respond to

growing demand for future-proof, scalable hardware that can support fixed, mobile and Cloud applications.

Redefining efficiency and scalability for online ordering and labelling as well as front and back of house operations in hospitality environments, the TSP143IV X4 and TSP143IVSK X4 are equipped with exceptional connectivity: USB, LAN, WLAN and Bluetooth alongside Cloud connectivity as standard to offer seamless compatibility with POS systems, tablets, handheld devices, online ordering systems and self-ordering kiosks supporting all major operating systems.

Both models deliver a new WLAN and Bluetooth setup designed to simplify wireless connectivity ‘outof-the-box’. Consequently, users can quickly connect via an auto-generated QR code or via the Star Quick Set Up Utility and be online within less than a minute.

The expertly designed and compact TSP143IV X4 and TSP143IVSK X4 feature a fast print speed while benefitting from an internal power supply and 4-year warranty as standard. And, with security being a key challenge facing many hospitality businesses, Star’s unique cash drawer connection sensing feature allows the printers to distinguish an open drawer or one which is completely disconnected. The information can be reported directly to a locally controlling application or via the Cloud.

Next Generation Cloud POS solutions

To enable almost instant printing in venues from Cloud-based hospitality software and apps, Star offers software and integration tools for enhanced connectivity thanks to its superior CloudPRNT™ Next technology based on the MQTT protocol. With CloudPRNT widely used by hospitality venues worldwide as part of their table ordering or online ordering system, Star’s latest CloudPRNT Next technology provides faster, more secure and efficient online ordering. Star CloudPRNT enabled printers are able to receive orders from multiple channels including fixed POS systems, mobile devices and tablets, networked as well as Cloud based systems which results in an efficient ordering and transaction process for any hospitality business.

Furthermore, by using Star CloudPRNT connected printers, users have the option to access StarPrinter. Online, a fully managed Cloud printing and device management platform with minimal set-up time and cost as well as near zero integration. To date, the service has been widely adopted across the hospitality industry and is continually expanding both in terms of features and global reach.

Linerless labelling

With the rise in multi-channel ordering in the hospitality industry in recent years accompanied by increasing demand for customer collection, third party delivery and legislation around accurate ingredients and allergy identification, the requirement for efficient food and beverage labelling has surged. Amongst the range of labelling solutions currently available, linerless labels stand out for their ecofriendly properties and operational efficiencies.

Thanks to its linerless sticky label printing capabilities, the TSP143IVSK X4 offers a versatile solution for hospitality environments seeking to print repositionable labels for food and drink orders and deliveries, resulting in greater order accuracy and streamlined workflows.

Sustainability

Supporting sustainable business practices, EnergyStar Certification ensures the TSP143IV X4 and TSP143IVSK

X4 operate optimally, allowing for power consumption and operational costs to be reduced. And, being packaged in eco-friendly packaging with a 30% smaller box size and near zero plastic wrapping, environmental impact is kept to a minimum.

For all linerless media, a key benefit is the reduction in waste. With no backing paper to discard, linerless media offers significant paper saving properties with more labels per roll than standard label rolls. Thanks to fewer roll changes as well as the advantage of reduced shipping costs and storage space requirements given linerless labels are more compact than traditional labels, cost savings can be achieved alongside enhanced operational efficiency and sustainability.

Investment in advanced technology

Successfully addressing the challenges facing the hospitality industry requires investing in the necessary tools and future-proof solutions. Without a doubt, businesses that recognise and commit to advanced and powerful technology will be best positioned to enhance efficiencies and capitalise on future opportunities.

Improving the Bottom Line with Bar Tabs

- CARDSSAFE -

Bar tabs are a classic hospitality tool that can significantly boost revenue by enhancing customer experience, increasing spending, and fostering loyalty.

Streamlining Ordering Offering bar tabs reduces friction in the ordering process. Customers enjoy faster service as bartenders and servers efficiently input orders, reducing wait times and improving satisfaction.

Encouraging Impulse Spending Customers are more likely to make additional purchases when they don’t need to repeatedly reach for their wallets. Phil Dixon, former BII advisor, stated, “If you want to increase spend, you must retain cards.” Paul Eagles, former Head of Risk Policy and Strategy at VISA, supported this: “When using cards, people spend at least 35% more.”

Deterring Dine and Dash Dine-and-dash incidents are increasing, causing significant losses for hospitality businesses. Retaining customer bank cards while running a tab removes the temptation to leave without paying. Holding cards securely verifies their validity and significantly reduces walkouts.

Enhancing the Social Experience Bar tabs encourage customers to stay longer, creating a relaxed and social atmosphere. Groups benefit as they can order rounds without worrying about settling the bill immediately. Tabs simplify group outings, ensuring fair contributions and eliminating payment hassle.

Building Loyalty and Repeat Business Regular customers appreciate when staff remember their preferences, leading to personalised service and stronger relationships. Many venues link bar tabs to loyalty programs, offering incentives such as discounts or free drinks, encouraging repeat visits.

Strategic Upselling and Cross-Selling Bar tabs provide data on customer preferences and spending habits, enabling businesses to tailor promotions. Analysing peak hours and purchasing patterns helps refine marketing strategies for increased profitability.

Modernising the Bar Tab Experience Keeping customer cards in folders or tills is outdated and insecure. CardsSafe offers a professional, secure solution for retaining credit, debit, and ID cards while customers run tabs. This cost-effective technology reassures customers that their cards are safe while allowing staff to focus on upselling and improving service. CardsSafe helps hospitality managers maximise profits, increase spending, and reduce losses through enhanced security and efficiency.
