Diamik Glass Launches New Range of ecorok™ Sustainable Surfaces

Yorkshire-based sustainable work surface manufacturer Diamik Glass has announced the launch of its 2023 range of trademark ecorok™ surfaces, made from 85% recycled glass.

The ecorok™ surfaces can be used for a wide range of purposes including worktops, splash backs, tabletops, tea points, reception desks and much more.

Created by the expert team at Diamik Glass, the method for creating ecorok™ has been honed over four years to create sustainable, hardwearing and luxury work surfaces - perfect for hospitality spaces.

ecorok™ is crafted using waste glass that would otherwise have gone to landfill, where it could take up to 4,000 years to break down. The glass is sourced responsibly from businesses and then crushed down, sized and colour sorted ready for use. Ecorok ™ is created using unique recipes for each design and set in specially adapted solvent free resins to create a solid sheet.

Handmade and using a range of glassware products, this allows the experts at Diamik Glass to create different colourways for a unique and bespoke finish. Being made to specification for each commission means each carefully crafted sheet of ecorok™ produces virtually no waste, making it a more efficient product for hospitality surfaces, as well as the only truly sustainable option.

To date, Diamik Glass has worked with architects, joiners and construction professionals to secure impressive contracts with brands including Pizza Pilgrims and Bombay Sapphire among many others.

Michael Pickup, MD of Diamik Glass, added: “I’m thrilled to be bringing the 2023 ecorok™ range to the market. Since launching our business just four years ago, we’ve worked on both commercial and domestic projects and have received huge praise from customers for the quality, durability and aesthetic of our sustainable surfaces.

“We’re looking forward to working with more partners and fabricators to bring ecorok™ to an even wider customer base, and we are excited for what the future holds!”

Sophisticated & Playful Experiences

Deeply Rooted in Local Vitality

- ANDAZ NANJING HEXI - THE HOUSE OF ANDAZ -

Andaz Nanjing Hexi - The House of Andaz is a modern interpretation of Nanjing. Designed for affluent new-generation trendsetters, Andaz Nanjing Hexi invites guests to express themselves through sophisticated and playful experiences that are deeply rooted in local vitality. It redefines luxury by bringing contemporary space, unscripted service, and vibrant programming under one roof.

The House of Andaz at Nanjing Hexi offers guests a dynamic spatial experience, starting from the arrival and vibrant social areas, through the compact L1 Entry Foyer to the open-concept L7 Reception, All Day Dining, Chinese Restaurant & Bar, the

- 8 -

flexible L29 Bar & Meeting Space, and the loft guestrooms. This journey through a new dimension of spatial experiences makes the House of Andaz the nexus for trendsetters in Nanjing.

L1 ENTRY FOYER Entry

The main entrance of House of Andaz serves as a transition from the bustling city to a serene and refined retreat. On the left, the vertical panel design showcases the Andaz logo’s alphabet on each door panel, while also providing an open fire-escape route and establishing an elegant sense of arrival. To the right, guests can access the concierge. The entryway is a perfect balance of practicality and aesthetics, evoking a welcoming atmosphere for guests to settle into Andaz Nanjing.

Concierge

As guests enter through the main entrance, they will be warmly greeted by the concierge. To maximize the compact space, a sleek and seamless desk is been installed, creating a bold statement while discreetly concealing necessary equipment within tall bookcases behind it. The linear design allows the concierge to operate efficiently within a relatively small space, deviating from the traditional bulky design of a concierge desk.

- 9 -

Adding to the unique touch of the space is a modern topographical artwork of Nanjing, which is hidden behind the bookcases. The space is adorned with a modern topographical artwork of Nanjing that is cleverly hidden behind the bookcases, contributing to its unique character. Additionally, a vibrant tangerine hue embodies Andaz’s dynamic spirit, complemented by modern Chinese ornamental details that enhance the sense of place.

This intimate entryway provides a welcoming embrace before guests arrive at the expansive Level 7.

L7 Reception, Lobby Lounge, Bar, All Day Dining & Chinese Restaurant

Upon arrival at Level 7, guests will step into a vast, double-volume open space that encompasses the Reception, All-day dining, Chinese Restaurant and bar areas, with no walls dividing them. The studio eliminated all walls and instead use drop panels and vertical screens to subtly divide the space while maintaining an open and welcoming atmosphere. This creates a seamless flow from one area to another. Here lies the nucleus of Andaz, where ideas, lives, and journeys converge and interweave in flawlessly crafted spaces.

Reception, Lobby Lounge, Bar

As guests arrive, they will be greeted by the lobby lounge, which leads to the reception area.

The lounge is elevated and includes an L-shaped sofa, a tall standing desk, and additional seating options in the corner. In the reception area, there are two separate counters facing each other, which allows guests to stand beside each other instead of in front of the receptionist. This fosters a more personal interaction between guests and staff. Following the reception area is the lobby bar, where guests can relax and enjoy a drink while waiting to check in or out. The centerpiece of the space is a state-of-the-art drop panel positioned above the bar, featuring a modern art piece in a vibrant tangerine hue. The artwork displayed on the drop panel serves as a unifying element for level 7.

Avalon Collective Pte Ltd (AC) is a boutique hospitality interior design consultancy firm based in Singapore with projects across Asia. Established in 2008, we are a collective of experienced and creative design professionals. The firm is helmed by Mr. Cedric Jaccard and Ms. Anna Wee.

The 50 strong studio spans across Singapore, Bangkok, Manila and Shanghai. We have committed teams that work through all stages of the project, from concept work, space planning,

All-day dining

Located across from the lobby bar is the bistro, which serves as the hotel’s all-day dining venue. The bistro features a seating area and an open kitchen. The absence of walls throughout the entire level posed a challenge in concealing the exhaust. However, the Collective added bookcases with patterns and rhythms to fill the 8-meter-high ceiling and create a visually dynamic impact, all while maintaining a consistent design language. To further conceal the kitchen from the main area, a bookcase with a similar language as the exhaust is placed between the dining area and the kitchen, creating an aesthetic appeal.

Chinese Restaurant

The Chinese restaurant is located after the open kitchen in the tavern, above the area there is an artwork

that mirrors the bar drop panel, creating a seamless design language. Additionally, four private dining areas are tucked away from the open space, providing guests with the option for intimate gatherings.

This allows the intermingling of boundaries among these spaces and seamlessly integrates and separates them at the same time, connecting them to the pulsating heart of Andaz.

L29 Bar & Meeting Space

As guests reach L29, they are greeted by a shared lift lobby that connects the bar and meeting space. The ceiling of both areas is united by strips of light shining towards the curved scallop ceiling, providing indirect light that adds depth and dimension to the space, in place of traditional direct lighting.

Elegance & Sustainability

In the ever-evolving world of interior design and architecture, flooring stands as a crucial canvas upon which the essence of a space is painted. Two exceptional contenders in this realm are Terra Legno’s engineered wood and rigid Luxury Vinyl Tile (LVT) flooring solutions, redefining elegance, durability, and sustainability.

Terra Legno has emerged as a trailblazer in the flooring industry, fusing innovation with nature’s timeless beauty. Our engineered wood flooring marries the warmth and authenticity of natural wood with cuttingedge engineering techniques. This environmentally-conscious choice offers the allure of hardwood without compromising on performance.

Complementing their wood flooring, Terra Legno’s rigid LVT flooring unveils a new dimension of versatility. This collection imitates the appearance of natural materials, including hardwood and stone, with unparalleled precision, all while providing a robust, waterproof, and low-maintenance solution. The unique rigid core construction adds an extra layer of durability, making it an ideal choice for high-traffic areas prone to spills and moisture.

What sets Terra Legno apart extends beyond aesthetics and practicality—is our unwavering commitment to sustainability. Recognizing the importance of responsible resourcing, we offer material with Floorscore as well as FSC certifications. By aligning aesthetics with ethical choices, Terra Legno enables customers to adorn their spaces with eco-conscious elegance.

This introduction merely scratches the surface of Terra Legno’s revolutionary contributions to the world of flooring. Whether one seeks the timeless charm of engineered wood or the contemporary resilience of rigid LVT, Terra Legno’s offerings redefine the standards of form and function. A Feast for the Eyes - BLOWFISH GLASS ART -

Glass Sculptor Elliot Walker is a master in manipulating hot glass; now, his work is reaching new heights via the world of Fine Dining and Luxury interiors, elevating the ambience of various spaces to unparalleled heights.

A FUSION OF ARTISTRY AND INNOVATION

An unyielding passion marked Elliot Walker’s journey into the world of glass for artistry and innovation; he is always experimenting and reimagining what glass can do. Trained in the age-old glassblowing techniques, he deftly melds tradition with contemporary design. Walker utilises edible concepts in his sculpture, with an extensive collection inspired by still-life paintings from old masters. Still, Walker puts a contemporary twist on them, which evokes a sense of timeless surrealism.

“Glass is a concept as well as a material; it has a life of its own. Coaxing a form out of the liquid glass is unlike working with any other material.”- Elliot Walker.

Walker’s work has reached new heights through business venture Blowfish Bespoke with business partner Bethany Wood, whose ethos is to collaborate

with distinguished artists and corporations, including interior designers and Global drinks brands such as Smokehead and SodaStream. Blowfish Bespoke is one of the many arms of Blowfish Glass UK, a leading hybrid hot shop and exhibition space, to promote and sell high-end glass art from prestigious glass artists worldwide. The gallery, artist-led by Bethany Wood, represents Elliot and many other talented artists.

TRANSFORMING LUXURY SPACES

Elliot Walker’s glass sculptures effortlessly assume the role of captivating focal points within Fine dining spaces, imparting an air of sophistication and luxury, from grand sculptural lighting installations that cascade like frozen waterfalls to intricate hyperrealistic crustaceans suspended as bearers of light.

In a world where guest experiences define the success of hospitality establishments, Walker’s sculptures offer more than mere visual delight.

In 2022, The Goring Hotel commissioned Elliot to recreate creatures from our underwater world to adorn their main dining space. Featured in the Guardian and the Telegraph, The Goring Hotel has been reviewed as one of the finest dining establishments in London. Walker focused his extended skill of manipulating hot glass to create Lobsters frozen in glass, with meticulous details, down to the finest antennules. This form was then combined with lighting, with lightbulbs cleverly held in the lobster’s claws, transubstantiating them to living entities within the space, ‘Whilst matching sea anemones perch on the tables’, Guardian 2021. These works by Walker transport you to an underwater world.

This year has seen the conception of Blowfish Bespoke, forging a closer relationship with the sculptural lighting industry. Walker and Wood have collaborated with the new sculptural lighting studio Rock & Soar; they create suspended decorative objects that celebrate nature, energy, and balance.

The designs beautifully involve hand-made, unique components that celebrate craftsmanship, process and materials.

Recently debuted at London Craft Week 2023, Storm is an impressive voluptuous suspended installation, ‘containing an array of beautifully intricate patterns and details that can be found within the dramatic earth’s skies, evoking strength and power within each unique piece. A dimpled texture passes over the glass pieces in various formations, which scatter the projected light from the suspended illuminated droplet light units above, with ethereal caustics resembling refreshing rainfall.’

FUTURE OF ART IN LUXURY SPACES

As the hospitality industry continues to evolve, the role of art within its spaces takes on new dimensions. Elliot Walker’s work through Blowfish Bespoke stands as a beacon, demonstrating art’s potential to shape an environment’s emotional landscape. His sculptures transcend decoration, leaving an indelible mark on guests and occupants alike. In a world saturated with fleeting experiences, Walker’s glass sculptures offer an enduring connection between art, space, and imagination. If you want to explore the sculpture of Elliot Walker in person, Blowfish Glass UK’s exquisite glass showroom is open by appointment, located in Stourbridge UK.

Culture, Heritage and Magnificent Grandeur

challenging due to listed buildings consent, some of the associated buildings date to 1650. In fact, before we commenced work, millions were spent moving the 17th-century St Giles Smithy, formerly home to the famous 12 Bar Club, in order to burrow a further three floors below. It was then replaced within 7mm of its original location where it would become The Lower Third Bar, honoring the name of one of Bowie’s former bands.

2022/23 saw WFC working in the heart of London on a number of projects centred around Denmark Street involving the spectacular redevelopment of the historic music neighbourhood – The Outernet District. For some months it felt like WFC had become part of the fabric of the famous 100 metre street!

Known as the music hub of London, nicknamed ‘Tin Pan Alley’, Denmark Street was at the heart of much of Britain’s musical history.

It was a matter of much pride to WFC to have been involved in three different, overlapping projects: the Outernet Venues, the stunning TATTU Restaurant and Bar Thirteen for Chateau Denmark and its private Club dial8 in the basement below.

TATTU on the 6th Floor of The Now Building, is a fabulous, flamboyant, rooftop restaurant with panoramic views and a lavish interior by the awardwinning Joyce Wang Studio, inspired by a traditional Chinese courtyard house. It’s a large venue with seating for 220, split into four distinct tattoo-themed areas: Carp, Tiger, Phoenix and Dragon. It was a 24 week project working on the top floor of a live construction site but handed over on time in March 2022 to a very satisfied client.

The Outernet project was a 22 week programme and comprised the HERE Music Venue with a 2000 capacity, The Lower Third Venue, with a 350 capacity, The Lower Third Bar, VIP areas, two green rooms, loos and a warren of corridors and stairways leading betwixt and between. It was a massive project, particularly

Across the road from The Lower Third at No 1 Denmark Street is the reception and bar for the quite wonderfully hedonistic Hotel Chateau Denmark. The hotel’s rooms and apartments, designed by Taylor Howes, are located in 16 buildings in Denmark Street plus session rooms in The Now Building. Our involvement was to bring the spectacular Grapes Design vision for Bar Thirteen and dial8 to life. Darren Grapes describes Bar Thirteen as “styled on the infusion of renaissance, gothic and anarchy inspired objet d’art and exquisite materials”. The ceiling is described as brutalist and a grand central reception chair sits in the centre of the space.

Bar Thirteen and dial8 were a spectacular way to close our very successful sojourn in the Outernet District and it felt good to have played a part in continuing the tradition of music and avant garde entertainment in the capital.

Explore London’s Hidden Cultural Treasures with a Stay at Hampton by Hilton London City

Avoid the traditional tourist hotspots and discover the capital’s hidden cultural gems with a stay at Hampton by Hilton London City.

Ideally located on Osborn Street, between the historic City of London district and the vibrant neighbourhood of Shoreditch, the latest addition to Hampton by Hilton’s growing portfolio boasts unbeatable transport links, making it easy to explore London like a local and revel in its treasure trove of lesser known, but no less spectacular, attractions.

Just 10-minutes’ walk from the 278-room hotel, which opened to guests in May, is Wilton’s Music Hall, a Grade II listed building and the oldest grand music hall in the world. Beginning life as houses,

shops and a pub in 1690, before being turned into a Victorian music hall in 1859, it was designed to bring the glamour and entertainment of the West End to working class people in the East End. The music hall still retains many of its original features, including its cast iron pillars and balcony.

St Dunstan in the East, just over 15-minutes on foot from Hampton by Hilton London City, is a tranquil and soothing oasis in the heart of the City of London borough. Bombed-out during the Second World War, the remains of the Church of St Dunstan in the East have been regenerated into a majestic public park where nature has reclaimed the church’s tower, steeple and north and south walls, the only parts of the building which remain standing today.

Let’s start at the beginning…

It all began in 1981, when our founder, Pauline Nash, started a curtain and soft furnishing business from the comfort of her very own home. The business quickly garnered a reputation for creating beautifully crafted, bespoke soft furnishings and attracted an ever-growing queue of clients. As the fan-base grew, so did Calico Interiors.

Today, Calico Interiors has its own purpose-built Workroom and works on commercial projects all across the UK - and Pauline has a little more help these days.

CREATING SPACES FOR ALL TO ENJOY…

We’ve created interiors for many hotels, bars, restaurants and holiday cottages over the years, and know that furniture and fabrics need to work hard in this environment yet be glorious to the eye too. Our bespoke interiors reflect the charm and heritage of every building we work on, featuring accessories that are practical and add to the character of each room.

Our aim is to create an interior that you and your guests will admire and enjoy and want to come back to, time and time again.

WHAT WE CAN DO FOR YOU…

Or what can’t we, more to the point. We provide the full spectrum of soft furnishings – curtains, blinds, cushions, throws, beds and headboards as well as furniture and flooring.

MEET YOUR TEAM…

Our dedicated Commercial Projects team will be there from the very beginning. Using their design, product and legislative knowledge, they will be there to advise not only on the project design, but also the right materials, colours and furnishings to reflect the demands of your industry – whilst working to your budget.

All soft furnishings for your project will be created by our talented team of makers and upholsterers, in-house at our Workrooms, managed and overseen by our Production and Logistic teams whilst working closely with the Commercial Projects team - ensuring

everything is made to our exacting standards and to the timescales agreed.

And then, when everything is ready to be installed you’ll get to meet our team of fully-trained fitters, who will come along and install everything for you.

It’s as easy as that.

WHY US?

We deeply care about everything we do and getting to know our clients is kind of a big thing for us. We believe that understanding your needs is essential to creating your perfect vision.

Our focus on delivering you the highest quality has not faltered in the last 40 years - it is woven into the fabric of every single thing we do.

The Dipping Lugger- Ullapool

Interior Design Team is headed up by our renowned Interior Design Director, Eve CullenCornes whom has been providing exquisite designs for over 20 years, boasting an impressive portfolio of work in the hospitality sector, and working for restaurateurs and Michelin star chefs such as Tom Kerridge and Paul Ainsworth. JCA prides themselves on their innovative solutions that are tailored to meet the individual requirements of their clients, reflecting their brand’s personality. This article delves deeper into one of Eve’s recent projects, the fine dining restaurant and rooms at The Dipping Lugger on Loch Broom in Ullapool.

The Dipping Lugger, a former manse dating back to 1789, underwent extensive renovation at the hands of Robert Hicks and Helen Chambers who acquired the property in 2018. The ultimate goal was to transform the manse into a luxurious retreat and restaurant, retaining its historic essence and charm. Eve Cullen-Cornes, the design director at JCA, believes in creating a concept or theme that resonates with the history of the property or is pertinent to the clients’ interests. In this case, the history of the building was the driving force behind the design approach with each room and space being individually created to emphasise this journey and experience.

The three ensuite bedrooms are named after characters associated with the manse. MacInnes (the previous owners), Melville (the man who built it) and Telford (for his partial rebuilding in 1829) - paying homage to its rich past. The rooms feature lavish beds adorned with fresh white cotton sheets, cozy tartan throws, and soft velvet cushions that tempt one to sink in and unwind. Refurbished fireplaces and antique lamps with Cole & Son, Juliet Travers and Morris & Co wallpapers add a touch of warmth and opulence to the rooms. Additionally, the ensuites are spacious and feature a freestanding bathtub with decorative tiles, setting the stage for a sumptuous soak. Also, upstairs another unique space continues with a “Sweet Shop” that offers a treasure trove of sweets and liquid indulgences, setting the perfect mood for a nightcap.

The drawing room is an epitome of elegance, with an array of rich features, including dark parquet floor, olive leather wingback chairs, antique velvet sofa, with plump cushions, period fireplace, and gold leaf and lion ‘Boscobel Oak’ Cole & Son wallpaper. This was designed for residents to have a night cap after dinner.

The restaurant seats 18 people, Eve used a Morris & Co wallpaper with Robert and Helen’s music promotional business posters to give contrast to the design.

The “Tasting Room” was created as a space within the dining room to provide an intimate two-table dining and tasting experience, where guests can dine and sample Seven Crofts gin from the Highland Liquor Company which is owned and produced in Ullapool by Robert and Helen.

JCA’s efforts at The Dipping Lugger are a true testament to their commitment to creating spaces that are unique and reflective of their clients’ brands, making them a distinguished name in the industry.

The Landmark London

THE LANDMARK LONDON COMPLETES £1.3 MILLION RENOVATION OF THE WINTER GARDEN AND GARDEN TERRACE WITH A NEW DEDICATED CHAMPAGNE BAR

The Landmark London has undergone an extensive renovation of its iconic space with a brand new food and beverage concept last month. Throughout the design, Alex Kravetz Design combined the best features of iconic grand hotels with modern elements to create a space that is both timeless and contemporary. The result is a perfect balance between tradition and innovation, ensuring that the Winter Garden retained its historic charm whilst remaining fresh and relevant.

The design concept draws inspiration from renowned glasshouses and grand hotels around the world, such as the Palm House at Kew Gardens, the Orangery at Syon House, and Longwood, making it a truly awe-inspiring space.

Fergus Stewart, CEO of The Lancaster Landmark Hotel Company and General Manager of The Landmark London comments: ‘These are iconic, standout and central spaces to our hotel and were incredibly important to get right. We wanted each space to feel approachable and calming to ensure the aesthetics aided guest experience. The result is fantastic and has completely refreshed the space. The Champagne Bar’s plant-lined gazebo is a particular highlight, and we’ve had many guests comment on how it brings the outdoors in as they sit under our iconic eight-storey glass atrium.’

A mix of artificial and live foliage and planting were added to the spaces and particularly to the Mezzanine level Gazebo, in order to further enhance the Winter Garden space with the full size palm trees.

One of the most exciting additions to the Winter Garden is the creation of a dedicated Champagne Bar at the Mezzanine level. This bar is designed to be a destination in its own right, offering a range of high-quality champagnes and other beverages throughout the day. The bar is also a flexible space that can be used for private functions, making it the perfect venue for special events and celebrations. With its large size and versatility, the bar can accommodate a wide range of guests, from small groups to large parties. Special attention was also given to the lighting of the space with consideration of different lighting settings using the latest dimming technology.

Dawn McCormack, Director of Accommodation at The Landmark London comments: ‘I worked very closely with the Alex Kravetz Design team to create a lovely space that not only matched our ornate rooms, but that created a relaxing, timeless and iconic space to enjoy a luxurious glass of Champagne. There’s no place quite like it in London.’

The colour palette takes inspiration from peacocks and palm courts, and features a vibrant mix of blues, greens, turquoise and gold as a palette.

BAGNODESIGN offers the complete solution for creating dream bathrooms. Luxury, quality, and innovation combine, from a high-end brand that offers design-led thinking and trend-setting product design.

Finishes in the bathroom are a huge story that is driving the brand’s growth. By offering a wealth of fashionable finishes across its brassware collections it is at the cutting end of interior design trends. This is evident throughout the latest collections, including Chiasso, a contemporary collection of basin and shower mixers, available in four versatile brassware finishes. In chrome, brushed nickel, soft bronze, and PVD gold, the inserts on the handles are customisable, and available in 12 finishes.

Equally as striking is Sestriere, basin and bath mixer handles beautifully crafted from marble and offset with the same on-trend metallic finishes. Similarly focused on bridging the gap between old and new in bathroom design is Bristol, a collection that draws its inspiration from the mid-20th Century to bring classical elegance to the modern setting. Combining a

soft, industrial style with bold statement pieces, Bristol is the perfect choice for emulating the rejuvenating ambiance of an urban spa, in the comfort of the home bathroom environment. Featuring a distinctive vogue style, Bristol gives a choice of two handle options –linear and cross – and no fewer than five on-trend luxe finishes.

A further new introduction into the BAGNODESIGN family is Orology, this time taking its design thinking from stylish watch bezels, with its versatile features offering a sense of understated luxury, allowing variations and combinations to maintain timeless contemporary elegance. Again, the brand’s focus on high-quality finishes as statement pieces if brought to the fore, with versatile options including PVD Gold, Anthracite, Chrome, Brushed Nickel, and Soft Bronze, each adding individual perspective and depth to the finish and turning bathroom brassware into a style statement.

With a fully stocked, centrally based UK distribution and fulfilment centre supported by the SANIPEX GROUP headquarters in UAE, creating beautiful, luxurious bathrooms is easeful from start to finish with BAGNODESIGN.

‘’We are fitting Waterblade because energy is our company’s third biggest cost, and Waterblade is a quick win with a fast payback and a long term return.’’

This is what we were told by a client recently. We think that Waterblade offers the best low-flow washing and rinsing performance there is. It is easily fitted to your existing bathroom and washroom taps, and can help you make a dent in your third biggest expense, energy. Our trials indicate that you can reduce your whole building water by around 5%. That also reduces your whole building energy consumption by around 1.5%, by using less hot water.

When fitted as a range of measures we are achieving 20% reduction in whole building water consumption, and 5% reduction in whole building energy consumption.

For a measure that takes minutes to implement and has a Return on Investment measured in Months, it has to be worth considering!

Waterblade has been fitted to 10,000+ hotel bathrooms in the last year, as well as 1,000’s of washroom basins. It is WRAS approved and UK manufactured in premises with ISO 9001 and ISO 14001.

Contact us and we can discuss which Waterblade best suits your taps, and set you up with a sample to try for yourselves.

Or, if you missed us at Build2Perform at the start of the year, come and meet us in person at the Hotel & Resort Innovation Expo 2023 in October.

Decorative, Beautiful, Practical

Zazoo Design was created by Katherine - an experienced caterer with a keen eye for design, she was always on the hunt for the perfect tray for both events and her home. Our ethos is simple: stunningly unique trays that are decorative, sturdy and sustainable, without breaking the bank. The array of almost 60 different styles, shapes and various sizes guarantees a fabulous tray for every taste! Colour combinations have been carefully considered, as are the materials selected, ensuring that they are made in the most sustainable and fair way.

Our beautiful trays are ethically and sustainably made by our fantastic artisans in India and Vietnam, who we have longstanding relationships with and who we adore! The trays are made from recycled MDF and Mango wood. MDF in itself is very sustainable and environmentally friendly - it’s made from wood shavings and wood that would otherwise be discarded. Mango is a hard wood and is highly sustainable - it’s relatively quick to grow to maturity, after about 15 years. At around 15 years old it stops growing fruit, so this is when it is used for furniture. It’s very hardwearing and comparable to oak for its durability. We then glaze the trays to create a gorgeous shine and ensure they’re waterproof.

We’re based in Gloucestershire, deep in the countryside - lots of natural beauty in the area inspires Katherine’s designs. Zazoo doesn’t have a fixed shop, but we often hold pop-ups, with stalls at farmer’s markets, crafts and artisan fairs, as well as large events like Goodwood. The full list of upcoming fairs and popups can be found on our website and Instagram.

Zazoo Design proudly supports The Hands Up Foundation, a small and innovative charity that funds health and education programmes in Syria and neighbouring countries. Working directly with local organisations, who know the needs and context of their local communities better than anyone, their work is simple, impactful and transparent. We are grateful to be able to support such a wonderful charity through practical designs that brighten any decor.

Long-awaited Aqua Jungle & River Experience and Additional Rooms Expansion

Delta Hotels by Marriott Riviera Nayarit, An AllInclusive Resort, situated in the Cruz de Huanacaxtle, Nayarit, Mexico, and part of the 31 properties in the All-Inclusive by Marriott Bonvoy hotel portfolio in the Caribbean and Latin America, unveiled the Aqua Jungle & River experience and an additional rooms and suites tower, both part of the resort’s planned expansion.

Located in the hotel’s own forest canyon, the Aqua Jungle & River experience offers members an allencompassing immersion in the surrounding lush jungle landscape with adult and family offerings. With five Jacuzzis for adults, a total of seven pools, an elongated lazy river and two kid’s areas with waterslides and splash amenities, visitors of all ages will have plenty of options to enjoy this water experience including convenient food and beverage spots. Inspired by the Tolantongo caves in the state of Hidalgo, where thermal waters cascade to natural pools, the Aqua Jungle & River experience brings that model to the hotel’s epicentre, allowing guests

to relax and rejoice in a paradisiac adventure for themselves.

“We are thrilled to bring families and seasoned travellers of all ages this unique water experience that will expose them to nature among the quiet mountainous location of this Delta all-inclusive resort,” said Ismael Morales, General Manager of Delta Riviera Nayarit. “We know that pools are the social hub for our guests and this addition will bring together everyone for organized and spontaneous leisure, all focused to provide simple fun yet memorable moments.”

With the Delta Riviera Nayarit’s expansion, the resort’s footprint increased from 117 to 212 unparalleled rooms and suites featuring mountain views with King or Queen modalities for adaptable comfort and with a design that resembles the Mexican artistry and natural elements of the locale.

- 78 -

“The new rooms and the aqua experience expansions at the Delta Riviera Nayarit are a proof that travellers are looking for more options to stay at resorts that offer sublime amenities and accommodations, enriching cuisine, and overall, a tailored experience in the all-inclusive format when visiting the destination” added Xavier Pineda, Director of Sales and Marketing, All-Inclusive for Caribbean and Latin America. “These additions are also great features for incentive groups, weddings, and social groups that look for a home to host their event in a resort that has it all in one place and can be the spearhead point to several micro destinations like Sayulita, San Pancho, Punta de Mita, among others”.

Delta Hotels by Marriott Riviera Nayarit, An AllInclusive Resort is the first Delta branded hotel in the Caribbean and Latin American region and the first Delta to be an all-inclusive worldwide and part of an expansive portfolio that is All-Inclusive by

Marriott Bonvoy. It boasts three sit-down restaurants on-site featuring Mexican, Asian, and local cuisines, three relaxing pools, a dedicated beach club just 15 min away from the resort, the renowned Tzicuri Spa, among other offerings. Infused with the local Huichol culture, visitors will find inspiration in the design, architecture, spa treatments, and food and beverage options on the hotel premises for relaxation and a unique wellness retreat.

In addition, Delta Riviera Nayarit participates in Marriott Bonvoy, the award-winning travel program in which more than 189 million members can accumulate and redeem points on extraordinary stays and experiences in nearly 8,600 hotels and resorts. www.marriottbonvoy.com

Living In Nature - FAST -

In 2021, Fast expanded and upgraded production and logistics facilities. In addition to the production hub in Vestone, Fast now has a new logistics hub, and a prestigious exhibition space on Lake Garda. Fast opened their flagship store in Milan earlier this year.

For Fast, sustainability is an overriding and fundamental commitment.

A sustainable product should respect low-impact production standards and be long lasting, both in terms of material durability and timeless style. Fast believe in timeless design: a form that will keep its communicative power intact for years to come. There are city and coastal locations around the UK that have been furnishing their outdoor spaces with furniture from Fast Spa for almost 10 years now with great success.

Caring about the environment has been a key principle in Fast’s vision from the beginning.

Fast’s 5 core values are specific takes on their idea of sustainability:

• Smart Nature

• 100% Outdoor

• Made in Italy

• Timeless Design

• Function and Feeling

Fast is an outdoor furniture company inspired by nature. Fast’s roots are Made in Italy, but their vision for the future lies in globalisation. Fast furnishes indoor and outdoor spaces in residential and contract settings. Hotels, restaurants, shops, swimming pools, country & golf clubs, apartment buildings and private villas... Fast seats and tables are designed and built to withstand all weather while guaranteeing design, styling appeal and durability.

Founded in Valle Sabbia in 1995, Fast found its material of choice in aluminium: lightweight, versatile and ductile. Aluminium is a sustainable material, as it can be endlessly recycled. Over time aluminium was joined by other materials – stoneware, wood, fabric and rope.

Fast’s collaboration with Robby Cantarutti & Partners led to the creation of the iconic Forest collection, still a bestseller. Their more recent collaboration with Studio Lievore Altherr in Barcelona added a new organic sensuality to the aesthetic lines of Fast furniture.

In recent years Fast has experienced a period of rapid growth. Fast sells worldwide through sales partners, with over 80% of turnover currently generated abroad.

Certifications such as the EPD Declaration or the use of the LCA method to monitor the environmental footprint of most products along their entire life cycle, demonstrate concrete and measurable results to Fast’s commitment to sustainability.

Villiers designs and creates beautiful furniture and works of art. Built with the finest materials and superb craftsmanship, pieces are individually made to last more than a lifetime.

Venturing into the great outdoors, the latest Villiers work features exquisite sculptures and large planters — launched this year and available in zinc and stainless combinations as well as rust and stainless steel finishes. Designed to breathe new life into external spaces, the materials are chosen so they can evolve with time and exposure to the elements –each unique to its surroundings.

Every Villiers piece is made to order, whether working to an existing design, or a one-off bespoke commission. Designs can be customised with different colourways, shapes and sizes, and planters can be supplied with trees, adding the final flourishes to achieve a signature look.

With well-honed artisanal skills, Villiers combines traditional methods and machinery with modern tools and technology. One of the most valuable machines in the workshop is a 100-year-old power hammer, and blacksmithing is an integral part of the production process – an ancient metal working skill that they are keen to keep alive through the specialist expertise of the team.

Alongside the new outdoor collection are beautiful dining and console tables, mirrors, lighting, and modern metal furniture, each designed to complement elegant and aesthetic interiors. Villiers has built an outstanding reputation over 30 years, with classic and contemporary pieces displayed in the finest hotels, private residences, yachts and luxury spas across the world.

The project provides an excellent example of plastics’ role in the circular economy, demonstrating how products can be given a useful second life and avoid being sent to landfill.

The used seat covers were collected by Veolia and delivered to the Plaswood™ recycling facility in Dumfries, Scotland where together with other waste plastic they were shredded, reprocessed and remanufactured into high quality recycled and recyclable plastic lumber. The material provides a durable, long-lasting and low-maintenance solution for the new raised bed structure.

Plaswood™ is not only weatherproof and moisture repellent, but it is also resistant to oils, acids, and alkaline solutions, making it a good long term reliable solution that will retain its structural integrity whilst reducing maintenance costs many times over, when compared to timber material. The long service life properties along with material stability and its

attractive appearance are particularly important for their prominent positions around the Emirates Stadium.

Just as important, the plastic lumber does not require painting or chemical treatment, because neither the weather nor environmental conditions can damage the highly resistant and durable material.

“The effective recycling of plastic into new products supports companies’ drive towards a circular economy and net zero, and these are also key commitments of Berry’s ongoing sustainability strategy,” commented Katherine Lorek, Plaswood’s Sales Director.

“In addition, this latest project demonstrates the versatility of Plaswood™ in providing practical and aesthetic solutions for a variety of outdoor garden and landscaping applications.”

Outcrop Now Open at 180 The Strand

A verdant courtyard at the heart of 180 The Strand, Outcrop - a restaurant, bar and arts space - is now open. Designed to connect guests with nature, the pop-up will serve as an inner-city oasis within London’s West End for three months.

FOOD

Outcrop’s restaurant is run by AngloThai’s John Chantarasak, and showcases his signature Thai cooking using ingredients from the bountiful British summer larder. Inspired by Outcrop’s mission, John has created a menu that focuses on seasonal British vegetables, native breed animals and line-caught fish, cooked over charcoal in keeping with the traditional cooking practices of rural Thailand.

Outcrop sources UK-grown ingredients such as ginger, chillies, Thai basil and lemongrass, alongside London honey and native British grains. Whole ingredient cooking and preservation techniques ensure the kitchen upholds a sustainable and low waste ethos. Dishes include: Carlingford Oyster, Sea Buckthorn, Fermented Chilli; Violet Artichoke Tempura, Yellow Soybean and Sugarcane Vinegar;

Wildfarmed Flatbread, Shrimp Paste Butter and Cornish Shellfish; Skate Wing Jungle Curry; Thai Tea Burnt Cream and Newlands Farm Strawberries.

DRINKS

Award-winning Bar Manager Rob Simpson, who honed his experience at restaurants including The Clove Club and Gymkhana, has curated an entirely British list - with the island providing the entire menu’s spirits, infusions and ingredients*. Cocktails include a pea vodka; an aperitivo masterfully formed from discarded oyster shells; and leftover tomatoes from the kitchen are used to infuse a signature negroni. The list includes: the No Fly Zone, made from barley eau de vie, London honey and gooseberry, and the Cropped Martini, which combines London dry gin with a homemade herb garden vermouth, served ice cold. Outcrop works with small distilleries striving to have a more positive impact: building soil health, eschewing pesticides, growing heritage grains, and using smarter ecological packaging.

Desiree Chantarasak of AngloThai has curated Outcrop’s wine list of low-intervention European wines, many served on tap by the glass or carafe. Wines have a great deal of character to stand up to the gutsy flavours of the food, many from the list come from the low-waste keg format, and the menu also features a canned pet nat.

ART & SPACE

A central installation comes from leading art collective Marshmallow Laser Feast. Sanctuary of the Unseen Forest is a large-scale, immersive video installation

of a giant Ceiba Pentandra tree from the Colombian Amazon, designed to create a moment of awe, inviting guests to contemplate their place within the wider systems of nature. As guests uncover the vibrancy of life that is flowing through the tree and listen to the lowly reverberating soundtrack, the pulse of the artwork taps into the pulse of the human body. The vast artwork is projected within the communal space, offering Outcrop guests a chance for reflection throughout their visit. More information and images of the work can be found here.

MUSIC

Outcrop features an audiophile sound system, centred around three pairs of vintage Tannoy Lancasters.

The system has been designed, in collaboration with Hifi specialists Audio Gold, by Outcrop co-founder Daniel John Willis and revered sound engineer Jamie Harley - noted for working with the likes of Aphex Twin, Neneh Cherry, James Blake and Kelis to name a few.

DJs, selectors and collectors from across the spectrum have been invited to create musical journeys inspired by the natural world. At the heart of this is an animal migration series, which sees artists curating music from the countries that our summer visitors migrate through:

- South African musician, DJ & composer Esa Williams is planning a 6 hour set that will follow the migration of the Swallow from South Africa to the UK

- John Gomez will do the same for the Manx Shearwater, which flies from Patagonia, through South America, to the UK and back again each summer

- Tash LC will musically follow the Cuckoo, on its epic journey from Angola, via the rainforests of the Congo to the UK

- Nadia Ksaiba will follow the Painted Lady Butterfly, from North Africa across Europe to the UK

- And LOCAL (club night) will follow the Humpback Whale on its journey through UK waters to the Caribbean In addition to this, Naima Karlsson is planning to perform a set titled The Sacred Life of Plants, a mix inspired by Stevie Wonder’s Journey Through The Secret Life Of Plants album. NTS Favourite Marshmello will be creating a sound collage titled ‘A Summer In London’. And co-founder Daniel John Willis will create a series entitled “Rivers and Tides”, a sonic exploration of the journey and importance of water.

FOUNDERS

Outcrop’s founding team is made up of Daniel Willis and Johnny Smith (co-founders of Michelin-starred The Clove Club and Luca), alongside three Secret Cinema alumni - Tom Allott, Andrea Moccia and Sabrina Goreeba. It is a new type of gathering placea green social club within the city that brings people together to eat, drink and have fun, all whilst striving to have a positive impact on the planet. In the longer term, Outcrop plans to link buildings in cities with large-scale regeneration efforts in the countryside, mobilising urban dwellers to increase biodiversity on depleted sites.

Outcrop is now open, with bookings available Wed to Fri, 17:00 - 23:30 | Saturday, 12:00 to 15:00; 18:00 - 22:00.

*The entire bar menu comes from the UK, however UK-based spirit producers that Outcrop works with occasionally import juniper, citrus, molasses etc. from overseas.

Joël Robuchon International Relaunches Mayfair Site as L’Atelier Robuchon with Andrea Cofini at The Helm

The Joël Robuchon International group has announced it will be relaunching its Mayfair restaurant as L’Atelier Robuchon London on Friday 15th September. The restaurant will be a counterpart to the starred international L’Ateliers; Hong Kong***, Miami**, Taipei**, Las Vegas* and Geneva*.

The relaunch is spearheaded by Executive Chef Andrea Cofini who joined the Robuchon brand in 2014, serving at L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon** in Paris and more recently, Robuchon Shanghai**. Cofini has worked alongside Group Executive Chef David Alves to ensure L’Atelier Robuchon London adheres to the group’s incredibly high standards.

On the menu, L’Atelier Robuchon London will celebrate some of the legendary Robuchon classics, from the much-revered Purée de Pomme de Terre (often described as the best mashed potatoes in the world thanks to the 2:1 potato to butter ratio), the Sea Bream Carpaccio - simply dressed with lemon and chive, to Quail with Foie Gras, all made using

the incredible supply chain the group gained its initial success with. Cofini’s influence is felt in the regularly-changing modern and elevated additions to the menu, bringing his experience working across the globe to create elegant plates with accents of Asian flavours.

For Robuchon, provenance and quality of ingredients is of the highest importance, and to this day, all of the restaurants world-wide still hold a loyalty to legacy suppliers that have a decades long relationship with the brand.

The restaurant will see the return of the much-loved dessert trolley; a sleek, marble-topped display of the best sweet treats from the kitchen including fresh á la minute Madeleines and expertly made patisserie classics. If one trolley wasn’t enough, L’Atelier will also boast a trolley dedicated to their exceptional cheese offering, with a daily-changing rotation showcasing the best of southern French and Italian cheeses.

- 98 -

Guests will be welcomed into the grand elegance of L’Atelier with it’s newly created bar area at the entrance, which leads into the open restaurant area, seating 74 diners. To the left is the sweeping marble countertop which puts the chefs centre stage, a signature feature of all the original Joël Robuchon restaurants where the open kitchen format was pioneered. The colour palette harks back to the Covent Garden L’Atelier with red and black accents, modernised to suit the new location and audience. Soft scarlet seating and subtle warm lighting invites diners to enjoy L’Atelier Robuchon through day and night; from long lunches through to celebratory dinners and drinks in the bar alongside live music.

L’Atelier’s Head Sommelier Neomie Favrat has curated an exceptional wine list with strong French and old world elements to complement the classical flavours of the food. Her aim is to champion small family owned vineyards that produce some the best wines in the world. Her pride and joy is a Champagne list of almost exclusively small producers such as ChartogneTaillet, Egly-Ouriet and Emmanuel Brochet, with guests having the option of up to 40 by-the-glass wines to sample, ranging from £9 to £195. L’Atelier will be one of the only restaurants in London serving Petrus on Coravin, an excellent opportunity to try this exceptional wine by the glass.

L’Atelier’s reincarnation is focusing on a stellar bar menu that incorporates elements from the kitchen and, for the first time, welcomes guests to the bar area to enjoy a newly launched programme of live music well into the evening. The plush new bar area towards the entrance of L’Atelier invites guests for a more relaxed

drink, accompanied by food if desired, but always with the perfect service which goes as standard with all Robuchon restaurants. Heading up the drinks offering is Renaud De Bosredon Combrailles who most recently ran Louie in Covent Garden, coincidentally on the site of the original L’Atelier Robuchon. Renaud has created an outstanding and considered menu of cocktails, with flavours including tomato and basil infused Campari, hay sake and a vodka infused with pastry from Robuchon’s Boulangerie in Acton. Key to the list will be non-alcoholic options that meet the high standards of the list as a whole.

To create a distinct night-time offering, L’Atelier will showcase a changing roster of DJs and live musicians to provide the perfect backdrop for the new bar area. The bar at L’Atelier will be open until midnight Monday to Saturday and 11:30pm on Sunday, serving Mayfair locals and London residents excellent drinks in a cosy and atmospheric lounge area.

Nestled within the picturesque woodland of the 500-acre (200 hectare) estate, Off Piste will reopen on November 15, 2023 inside a cosy tent, decorated with oak wooden tables, a rustic bark bar and a roaring fire.

Offering a delicious mix of Swiss cuisine, the specially crafted menu created by Executive Chef Talha Barkin features seasonal meat and vegetable charcuterie boards, as well as a classic cheese fondue finished with truffle shavings.

Mercato Metropolitano Unveils Reimagined Elephant Park Market, Including Six New Food Traders

London foodies rejoice! Renowned sustainable community food market group, Mercato Metropolitano (MM), has announced the development of its second Elephant & Castle market, ‘MMy Elephant Park’ with SIX new food traders.

The new and improved marketplace offers a quieter and more residential space to catch up with friends whilst enjoying fresh produce that’s prepared on-site by a handful of trading partners – all of which have been carefully selected to align with the MM values of making a positive social impact on people’s lives and the planet.

Officially opening its doors to the reimagined market on Friday 25th August, the MMy Elephant Park site is home to six new trading partners for visitors to sink their teeth into.

- 102 -

The six new trading partners at MMy Elephant Park are:

• Hachalito – an award-winning tequila & agave cocktail bar. London’s only Agaveria and home of the Mirror Margarita - voted Time Out’s 7th Best Cocktail in the World.

• Wing Fest – a celebration of the mighty chicken wing, burgers and loaded fries with lots of options like classic and new flavours.

• Native – freshly-made pizza by the slice, so you can enjoy a variety of flavours and combinations in a single meal.

• All That Falafel & Kebab – serving vegan falafel and kebabs. Savoury, nourishing and skilfully prepared, using only the freshest and thoughtfully-sourced ingredients.

• 3KOBROS – an authentic Korean kitchen capturing the essence of three vibrant iconic dishes: bibimbap, noodles, and buns. Focusing on traditional flavours and high-quality ingredients, the dishes are served with the traditional Gochujang sauce, a home-made red chilli sauce which is a staple of Korean kitchen.

• The MM Grocery* – a grocery store offering ethical and sustainable produce. Established as a leader in providing responsibly-sourced produce.

*The MM Grocery will be opening from Thursday 14th September 2023.

The new food vendors will join existing trader, Badiani, who opened its first-ever gelato retail store in the market a number of years ago, and has since become the official sponsor for the Italian Cultural Institute.

Mercato Metropolitano (MM) was London’s first sustainable community food market, focused on regenerating and revitalising urban neighbourhoods and building communities around good, healthy, and affordable food for everyone. Its Elephant Park market, near to its flagship Elephant & Castle market,

- 103 -

is located close to outdoor space and playgrounds, offering a wonderful central hub for families and local residents.

The development of the MMy Elephant Park site is a symbol of MM’s commitment to driving forward its MMovement – centred around community inclusion, seasonal produce, nutritious food, and the preservation of the environment.

MMy is reminiscent of the time when Andrea Rasca, Mercato Metropolitano’s founder and CEO, spent in Japan, where limited space and local community needs led to neighbourhood dependency on convenience corner stores. The format has been further developed in London by Rasca and the same team behind the success of the other MM markets based on the understanding that each local community needs a centre of aggregation around food, social values and shared experience, where the elements of inclusiveness, sustainability and healthy lifestyle remain at the core of the offer.

To celebrate its re-opening, MM will be hosting an official launch event on Thursday 14th September, offering local residents the chance to come along and enjoy a taste of each of the new trading partners.

Andrea Rasca, CEO and Founder of sustainable food market MM, said: “We are immensely proud to be reimagining our MMy Elephant Park site, bringing six new trading partners to the area for local communities to have access to good, healthy and affordable food.

“Through our MMovement, our mission is to build more inclusive communities and sustainable local food systems. We want to bring together individuals, groups and organisations who share our goal of improving access to nutritious food for everyone, along with other philanthropic and social activities that make a positive impact on people’s lives and the planet.

“We are so committed to driving forward our collective MMovement through all of our MM markets, and I can’t wait to see what the future has in store for this second Elephant & Castle market.”

You can find MMy Elephant Park at 1 Walworth Square, London, SE17 1GA.

Luxury Chester Hotel’s Fine Dining Restaurant Shortlisted for Prestigious Hospitality Award

A luxury five-star hotel in the heart of Chester is in a celebratory mood after its fine dining restaurant has been recognised for its impeccable service standards — seeing it shortlisted for a leading industry award.

The Chester Grosvenor’s Arkle, the hotel’s 3 AA Rosette restaurant, has been shortlisted for the AA Food Service Award due to its consistent delivery of outstanding service in the realm of fine dining, with winners set to be announced on the 25th September.

Recognising a restaurant that delivers exceptional standards of service and hospitality, the AA Food Service Award, a competitive category in the esteemed AA Hospitality Awards, seeks to honour those who deliver flawless, technical service skills with food and beverage knowledge of the highest standard.

The AA Hospitality Awards aim to shine a light on the best establishments across the country, with the Arkle being nominated alongside the highly respected Woven by Adam Smith in Coworth Park hotel, and The Strathearn in The Gleneagles Hotel.

Arkle is at the heart of The Chester Grosvenor — playing a vital role in embodying the hotel’s fundamental values and outstanding service. The team’s devotion under the guidance of Executive Chef, Elliot Hill, ensures every guest has a memorable culinary experience.

Since Arkle’s inauguration last year, the restaurant has continuously flourished. It swiftly attained the accolade of 3 AA Rosettes, whilst also being named in the Michelin Guide and receiving the AA Notable Wine List Award.

Commenting on the nomination, Elliot Hill, Executive Chef at the Arkle, said: “We are absolutely thrilled to be nominated for this award, and honoured to be up against some incredible restaurants. It’s a true testament and credit to the whole team who work tirelessly in delivering service to the highest standard in making Arkle a truly wonderful and

unique experience, and we are so grateful for all our customers who we get to entertain every service.”

With the existing building dating back to 1865, The Chester Grosvenor is a Grade II listed hotel located in the centre of Chester next to the iconic Eastgate Clock, near Chester Cathedral and the ancient city walls of the famous northern English town. It boasts 67 bedrooms and 12 suites, each one full of character and individual appeal.

Aga Szopa, Food and Beverage Manager at The Chester Grosvenor, said: “I am so proud of the team for being one of just three finalists for this award, it’s an amazing achievement and recognises the level of service we strive to provide and the feedback we consistently receive from our guests. We want our guests to leave having had the best dining experience with us and the team are at the heart of that, providing a service that is knowledgeable, polished but lets their personalities and passion for what they do shine through.”

Explore The World of Herbs at New Heights

- THE BOTANICUM -

The Chedi Andermatt has unveiled an invigorating array of drinks and a new dish using the herbs grown in its high-altitude garden, The Botanicum, to refresh guests in the Alpine sun until the end of September.

The five-star hotel, nestled in the picturesque Swiss village of Andermatt, is putting the 35 herbs it grows at 1,447 metres above sea level to use in home-made lemonades, teas and its “Garden Breeze” cocktail.

Situated next to The Bar and Living Room, a plush space ideal for relaxing after a day in the mountains, The Botanicum is home to yarrow, borage, southernwood and green santolina and nine species of mint, among other herbs. Bar Manager Elmir Medunjanin and Carsten Alexander Kypke, Executive Chef of The Restaurant, crafted The Botanicum not only to enhance flavours but also to harness their benefits for physical and mental well-being.

- 108 -

The greater intensity of the solar radiation at The Chedi Andermatt’s lofty altitude engenders larger quantities of essential oils in herbs grown at The Botanicum, increasing their aromas. The herbs are a key ingredient in The Chedi Andermatt’s bespoke lemonade, created with local honey following a 16hour cold infusion process, and in a selection of detox teas after they are air-dried.

Elsewhere, those searching for a stimulating aperitif need to look no further than the “Garden Breeze” to satiate themselves with a spicy, whisky-based cocktail complemented by The Botanicum’s sage, pine honey cordial and a lime and lemon balm. Guests can also enjoy The Chedi Andermatt’s home-grown produce in The Restaurant, recipient of 14 GaultMillau points, where Chef Kypke has devised a dish of Swiss trout tartare and caviar with a vinaigrette of herbs and Berne rose tomatoes.

Personal tours of The Botanicum are available with members of the bar team, while those wishing to sample more mountain produce can embark on an alpine expedition with local expert Bänz Simmen, uncovering wild spinach, black cumin, thistles, blueberries and cranberries before creating preserves and pestos with the kitchen team.

Early Promotion Can Help Feed Desire For Stuffed Restaurants This Festive Season

Leading international online booking and table management software provider ResDiary has warned restaurants not to risk missing out on a bumper Christmas by leaving their planning too late.

ResDiary research found venues recorded a marked increase in revenue throughout the festive season, with the figures even higher for restaurants that began their planning before the summer is out.

The figures were revealed in ResDiary’s latest industry report: Beyond the Booking: Festive Season Success Unwrapped, which was released this week.

The Glasgow-headquartered company, whose system is used by more than 10,000 venues across the world, said more than a third (34%) of restaurants are never fully booked during the festive period, with that figure almost halving to 18% when venues began their festive planning before August.

The research also revealed more than 69% of eateries take significantly more revenue during the festive period, with the figure ramping up to 82% for those who have planned ahead and taken action before August.

ResDiary CEO Colin Winning said: “The festive season is a hotly anticipated and instrumental period in the hospitality calendar, so it’s important restaurants have these ongoing insights in order to benchmark, evaluate their current position, and steady up their plans for the season ahead.

“Our findings demonstrate a clear correlation between those putting their festive plans in place before August, in higher booking numbers, and subsequently higher revenue generation.

“We are therefore encouraging all restaurants who haven’t done so already to start promoting their festive offering for 2023, with our report also highlighting how restaurants should be adapting their operations and marketing strategies for a successful season.”

The report, which surveyed dozens of restaurateurs across the UK and Ireland, also found that while

nearly 8 in 10 restaurants said they were busier during the festive season, a similar number were hungry for more customers.

And while implementing plans early can lead to increased revenue, the report found it can also have knock-on benefits.

Colin added: “Nearly a quarter of survey respondents putting plans in place before August said they were fully booked by September, giving them more time to market their festive offering, reconfigure table plans and implement other seasonal changes to their operations, long before their competitors.

“Our research also found venues are able to plan ahead and increase inventory and staff levels accordingly, with more than half of restaurants boosting their workforce to manage the festive season, and 54% adding to their stock levels to meet the spike in demand at this time of year.

“This not only provides them with certainty going into the stressful festive period, but it also means they are able to focus on providing customers with the best possible experience – hopefully one that will lead to them returning in the new year.”

Work in Hospitality? Check Your Self Assessment Registration Situation!

- HMRC -

The year is flying by and time is gradually running out for you to check if you need to submit a Self Assessment tax return for the 2022 to 2023 tax year.

If you need to register for the first time, you only have until 5 October 2023 to tell HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC).

Is there a way I can check whether I need to submit a Self Assessment tax return or not?

There are various reasons which can affect whether or not you need to complete Self Assessment, so it’s understandable that you may not be completely sure.

Fortunately, HMRC has lots of help available. You can use the free online tool on GOV.UK, which is quick and easy to use, to check if you need to complete a tax return for the 6 April 2022 to 5 April 2023 tax year.

I’ve never submitted a Self Assessment before. Why would I need to now?

There are many reasons why you might find that you need to complete a tax return for the first time. Some may be obvious:

• Starting work for yourself, so being newly selfemployed, and earning over £1,000

• Having multiple sources of income

• Receiving untaxed income, for example, in this

digital age, creating online content and earning money from it

• Receiving income from a property that you own or rent out

Others may seem a little less obvious:

• Becoming a new partner in a business partnership

• Claiming Child Benefit when you, or your partner, earn more than £50,000 a year

• If you earn more than £100,000 a year

• If you receive interest from banks and building societies (more than £10,000)

• If you receive dividends in excess of £10,000

• If you need to pay Capital Gains Tax

• Or, if you are self-employed and earning less than £1,000 but you still want to pay Class 2 National Insurance Contributions (NICs) voluntarily to protect your entitlement to a State Pension and certain benefits

Your circumstances may have changed in a variety of ways since the last tax year, and it’s important to take a moment to consider if any of these might mean you have to complete Self Assessment. You can use the free online tool on GOV.UK to check if you need to do one.

Remember, even if you are paying taxes through PAYE in an employed role, you may still need to submit a tax return.

Searcys to Open A Champagne Bar in Battersea Power Station

- SEARCYS -

British restaurateur Searcys is set to open a new champagne bar in the heart of Battersea Power Station this October. Following on from the success of its vintage Rolls Royce Champagne Coupé pop-up, the Searcys Champagne Bar will be located on Level 1 in the Power Station’s Art Deco Turbine Hall A, next to the Food Arcade and Lift 109, serving an extensive list of champagne and English sparkling wine, paired with small bites and seafood platters.

Opening on Wednesday 18th October, the 76-cover bar and dining space will feature a mix of plush, deep blue velvet seating with polished brass detailing, a 15-cover marble-topped bar and a semi-private recessed booth, available to book for up to 10 guests. Bright and airy with floor-to-ceiling windows, the Champagne bar walls will be adorned with three bespoke pieces of art by celebrated artist, Kristjana Williams, specially commissioned by Searcys to capture the London landscape with the company’s signature twist.

Experts in champagne, the spotlight will be on Searcys’ extensive selection of champagne and English sparkling wine, with brass ‘Press for Champagne’ buzzers at each table – inspired by the original

buzzers at sister site, Searcys Champagne Bar at St Pancras International, opened over 14 years ago.

On the menu will be a seasonal selection of fresh seafood, including a signature shellfish platter, along cured meats and light and healthy salad options.

Searcys’ Managing Director, Paul Jackson comments: “We are excited to be expanding south of the river to launch within the fantastic retail and gastronomic hub at Battersea Power Station. We are pleased to be taking the next step with a permanent site in the Turbine Hall. As connoisseurs of champagne since 1847, we want to create an experience which showcases our hand-picked selection for our guests to enjoy.”

The latest addition to the Searcys family, the Searcys Champagne Bar is set to open its doors on Wednesday 18th October, joining the company’s collection of bars, including Searcys at the Gherkin, Europe’s longest Champagne Bar at St Pancras and The Champagne Bar at 116 Pall Mall.

A Record-Breaking Season for Club Wembley - WEMBLEY STADIUM -

Club Wembley, the hospitality arm of Wembley Stadium connected by EE, has reported recordbreaking sales figures over the last 12 months.

Membership sales were up 10% on the previous year while the sales of seats in private boxes rose by 14%. Membership renewals were also well over 70% for the period, which is a record amount for Club Wembley.

Previously, the 2021/22 season was the most successful year for Club Wembley. Last year’s results (22/23) have outstripped those figures, highlighting the rising demand for hospitality at big events postcovid.

Paul Scannell, Head of Club Wembley, and Hospitality at Wembley Stadium said: “More and more people now want to enhance their match-day or event experience by adding on hospitality options.

“Our Club Wembley offering allows them to do this at a variety of different levels. All our packages are tailored to suit specific requirements and include first-class food and beverage options alongside the best seats in the house.

“Club Wembley continues to offer visitors a unique opportunity and experience to watch world-class sport and entertainment at the national stadium.”

From August 2022 to July 2023 Wembley Stadium was host to 30 major events. This included some of the nation’s biggest live music and sporting events such as six nights of Coldplay, four nights of Harry Styles, Foo Fighters (Taylor Hawkins Tribute), Carabao Cup Final, two FA Cup semi-finals, Emirates FA Cup Final, Women’s Finalissima and two men’s England internationals.

Next year, in addition to the usual football events traditionally held at the stadium, Wembley Stadium will host the 2024 UEFA Champions League Final. It will also be home to six nights of Taylor Swift’s The Eras tour, with more big acts and events set to be announced in the upcoming months.
