Twist the Throttle Welcome to our Fall/Winter 2012 Special Edition. In this issue we bring you brother Rider Big Tigger’s interview with the legendary OG Ice-T as he takes us behind the scenes with his directorial debut of “Something from Nothing, The Art of Rap.” Also, making waves is Ice’s wife Coco who introduced her new clothing line “Liscious” during New York’s Fashion Week. We found this to be a prime time to bring you our shoot with this all-star model, manager, designer and fitness expert. Yeah, don’t let the curves and blonde hair fool you. She is equally as business savvy as she is sexy, or as we call it “sexy savvy.” On the following pages you will notice Throttle Life is more than a regurgitated motorcycle media outlet. Sure, you can combine a fancy layout with high-end photography, but at the end of the day are those other motorcycle publications really different? When was the last time a motorcycle publication provided you with health, fitness, nutrition and social awareness content? How about couples that ride together or one-on-one coverage with owners, builders, racers and the m/c world beyond the bikes? This is the gap we intent to fill. Why are we taking this direction? This dynamic community is made up of experts from every walk of life, so why not share their expertise to enrich our lives. As we navigate uncharted waters you will notice new features such as our “Furthest Traveled” section featuring male and female riders that get-it-in with putting miles on their bikes. Our “Harley Swag” section, dedicated to the lifestyle element surrounding this iconic brand. Our Kawasaki Korner for our Kawi fans and of course we’ll continue to bring you our Throttle’istas section featuring female riders in our community. Speaking of the ladies, you will not find bikini clad young ladies as an accessory. That’s old and tired. With our Throttle Angels feature we are striving to introduce a fashionable look where the ladies are featured and the bike is the accessory. And for the ladies, get ready for our “Throttle Heat” section featuring the fellas in the community. We realize this may not be the publication for everyone. If you prefer the old stuff, there’s a ton of it out there. So as always, kick back relax and take a ride with us as we dive into this life we live, love and breath...the Throttle Life!

Fallen Riders

Fallen and Injured Riders

As we bring to close the Mid-Atlantic’s typical “riding season”, our hearts are heavy remembering our brother and sister Riders that are no longer with us.

Each time the word went out about a Rider going down, it was a sobering reminder just how dangerous our love of two-wheels can be. Even if you didn’t know that Rider personally, your heart couldn’t help but go out to them and their families from sheer compassion for your fellow Rider. A good friend of mine was involved in an accident this season. Fortunately she was released from the hospital with non-life

threatening injuries the following day, but I was worried sick waiting to hear from her – a feeling I will never allow myself to forget. We know the chances we take every time we mount up, yet we ride because it’s who we are. Let’s not wait until a tragedy happens to let our Riders know how we feel about them, even if it’s just a moment to say “thanks” or “hey, whats good.” On behalf of our staff, contributors, partners, supporters and advertisers lets continue to ride safe, ride smart and ride for those that continue to ride and live on in our hearts and eternal memories.

2013 preview

Here’s a sneak preview of a few very notable 2013 models. BMW is back with an all new entry into the sportbike scene, the HP4 stepping up things up where its ground breaking predecessor, the S1000RR left off. Yamaha is so confident in their razor sharp R1 that it remains virtually untouched with the exception of a few new color combinations. Kawasaki has added two new models to their line-up, the Ninja 300 and Ninja 636 and Suzuki continues to remain hush-hush about their sportbike line including the legendary Hayabsa for 2013. On the other side of the riding coin, Harley-Davidson celebrates their 110th Anniversary with a few special CVO models while Victory Motorcycles ups the ante with their all new Victory Boardwalk. Not to left out of the excitement, Star Motorcycles gives us their accessory-packed V Star 1300 Deluxe and Suzuki bring to the table the new Boulevard M90 . There certainly doesn’t look to be a shortage of excitement for 2013 as we look forward to bringing you our real-world reviews. Yeah, we know it s a tough job....

2013 Yamha YZF-R1 With Traction Control added last year, Yamaha has decided to keep their legendary super bike relatively untouched this year with the exception of adding new colors, matte gray, Rapid Red and Raven and of course the Team Blue and White. This 998cc, liquid-cooled fourcylinder razor, with its 6-speed multi-plate slipper clutch and transmission still remains at the top of the super bike hill. 2013 BMW HP4 The HP4 is being touted as the lightest supersports bike in the 1000cc category with a dry weight of 373 pounds and a power output of 193 horsepower. Given its track-ready heritage, it comes with a standard passenger seat cover along with a host of safety, performance and sophistication standard features, as well as HP Race parts and special accessories such as a Competition Package; racing blue metallic alloy wheels; an HP carbon fiber tank cover; heated grips and a clutchless shift assistant. BMWMotorcycles.com

2013 Kawasaki Ninja 300 Just when the competition thought it was safe to go back into the waters. Kawasaki introduces their all new Ninja 300. The Ninja 300, however, steps it up with a bigger 296cc engine in the battle to be the baddest beginner bike on the block. With nearly 50% of its engine upgraded, the Ninja 300’s is tuned for smooth power around town and to rock on the highway. Kawasaki.com

2013 Kawasaki Ninja ZX 6R and ZX-6R ABS Stunters, street riders, canyon carvers, and racetrack junkies, Kawasaki has created a bike with you in mind. This new 16-valve, long-stroke DOHC 636cc inline-four features new semi-flush front turn signals built into the bodywork, compact rear turn signals, and a new lightweight compact LED taillight. Beyond the cosmetics, The 636 rocks a host of engine and performance features way too much for this preview area. Looks like Kawasaki has certainly been listening to the streets when the created this one. 2013 Victory Boardwalk Aimed at Harley-Davidson’s Softail Deluxe, Victory’s Boardwalk builds upon their 106inch Freedom V-Twin and steel-tube-frame platform. Sitting on 16-inch wire-spoked wheels wrapped in Metzeler “gangster whitewalls” that would’ve made Curtis Mayfield proud. Is Milwaukee big enough for two American Icons? We the people will surely benefit from Victory’s battle for the top spot. VictoryMotorcycles.com 2013 Harley-Davidson 110th Anniversary CVO Road Glide Technology, luxury, and street appeal aptly describe this limited edition road warrior. New on the Road Glide CVO for 2013 are a hidden antenna, a bright LED headlight, fatstyle, blacked-out ergonomically-designed handlebars, and stretched-bottom saddlebags. Limited to approximately 3,150, each model is serialized and emblazoned with the 110th Anniversary Special Edition emblem. Harley-Davidson.com

North Carolina’s Queens Together Making Changes motorcycle club, also affectionately known as ‘dem Badd Azz QT’s recently celebrated their 9th Anniversary charity event in grand style with a Brazilian Carnivale theme party. Although their 9th Anniversary fell on Easter weekend, estimates have more than 2,500 were in attendance from as far away as Kansas City, St. Louis, Boston, Atlanta, Philly, New York, New Jersey, Indianapolis and Cleveland. O’mens’ BigMucci, creator of the infamous Biker’s Shuffle was also found mixing it up with the crowd. The DMV area also had a strong contingent of support from Platinum Dreams, Immortal Soulz, Game 7 Ryderz, Deuces Wild, Black Tigers, Platinum Rollers, MD Hill Ryders, MD Rebels, Soulja Girlz, Speed Divas, Swagg City Ryderz, #1 Stunnas, DC Sportbike Riders and Sons of Black Caesar to name a few with a special shout to Smokn Curves’ for their most represented out of state female club win, Down-N-Dirty for winning the most represented male club and Bloc Burnaz for winning the most represented multi-chapter club.

As alluded to, the QT’s anniversary is more than just that. It is an event. The weekend included a tastefully sexy fashion show featuring something for both men and women which also included gear by sponsor Speed and Strength and special Black Hoody fashion tribute for Trayvon Martin. Keeping the party jumping was none other the Ruff Ryder’s DJ Storm who moved the crowd with his weaponry of skills including mixing in DC’s go-go. Saturday morning began with a charity ride lead by Drag Bike Champion Rickey Gadson and Team No Limit Motorsport’s Jason Britton. Other activities included a street festival, parade, wheelie machine by iWheelie and stunt show by Jason and King Rommel, NY & Team Radical. Not forgetting their event took place during Easter, the QT’s included an Easter egg hunt and Easter appropriate puppet show for the little riders in attendance. Also keeping the kids entertained was a QT’s game room thanks to sponsor Best Buy complete with game stations, large flat screen displays and array of video games which the younger crowd thoroughly enjoyed. continued –>

As great as the festivities and activities were, this charity weekend was also about raising awareness and money for the QT’s chosen charity, Raleigh’s Interact Battered Women’s Shelter for which they have raised more the $12,000. Once again dispelling the negative image far too often portrayed about our community.

20 ThrottleLife.com | Fall/Winter 2012 Special Edition

The QT’s typically take some time off before planning their next anniversary. Not this year. “With 2013 being our 10th year Anniversary, we’re going straight into the planning phase”, says QT President Quiet Storm. With such a successful 9th Anniversary, there’s no telling what’s in store for their 10th.

e r o m i t l a B s r e g i T k c Bla We’re all familiar with the Baltimore Black Tigers (BTMC) infamous Pajama Jammy Jam weekend. If you’re not, you need to be. There’s lingerie, silk robes, entertainment, vendors, elaborate ice sculptures, sold out hotels (yes, plural) with riders traveling from near and far to attend. But do you know how this “event” came to be and more importantly the impact it has on not only their partnering charities, but also their local economy? continued –>

Fall/Winter 2012 Special Edition | ThrottleLife.com – 25

The Baltimore Black Tigers began in 1996 under founders Rodney “Yoda” Jones, Lynnette “Lo Jack” Mickens, Geno Maddox, Kevin Forsythe, Wayne Brownly with original club member Keith “Lo Kei” Grissom becoming VP and eventually President in 2005. The club has grown to more than 100 members collectively located in TX, NC, ATL, FL and PA. One of the aspects that immediately impressed me with the BTMC years ago was reading their mission statement which included “promote a family atmosphere” and “fellowship among club members in and outside of the area” front and center on their website. The club also actively involves their “Tiger Cubs” in the various charities and canned goods drives they support. “We believe in including our kids in our activities when possible” said President Lo Kei. “This way they know we’re involved in their lives which helps to keep them out of trouble. We’ve even provided motorcycle escorts to proms.” he continued with pride. Back in the day, the club was involved in several outreach efforts including a breast cancer bike and car wash, charity ride, fundraisers and the Pajama Jammy-Jam. This was in addition to still getting out and supporting other clubs. As you can imagine, this was a significant undertaking forcing the founders to considers a few cuts, including the Pajama Jammy-Jam party. However, with wanting to provide a unique event for the motorcycle community, they choose to keep the Pajama Jammy-Jam as it proved to be a fun and effective opportunity to get others involved. How did the party grow into what it is today? Mutual respect and support. “When we first started, there weren’t many bike clubs in the area so we traveled” said club P.R.O. Neville “Nasty Nev aka Can’t Get Right” Williams. “Whether it was a quick trip to DC or hitting the road to Philly, New York, New Jersey, Ohio or North Carolina, we got on our bikes and did what we like to do and that’s ride” he continued. This mutual respect and support certainly paid off as evidenced by the love they receive beyond their Pajama Jammy-Jam such as selling out their Atlan26 ThrottleLife.com | Fall/Winter 2012 Special Edition

tic Beach Bike Week “Back to Black Beach Bash” at the House of Blues which was at full capacity with a line of riders still hoping to get in at 1am. With their host hotel selling out within 30 minutes of its availability announcement and four additional overflow hotels selling out, the local economy benefits tremendously with this volume of visitors in town. Although the party is well respected and attended, attracting notable personalities such as drag race World Champion Rickey Gadson, Grammy nominated R&B singer Raheem Devaugn, comedian Michael Blackson, female R&B Hip-Hop singer and radio-host Lil Mo, funny man Troy “Ghost Host” Rawlins as well as professional athletes, the party still remains true to its purpose of supporting the Bea Gaddy Foundation, Red Cross and breast cancer awareness. During last year’s anniversary weekend, the Black Tigers set a Red Cross record for the most units received during a single weekend. This was in addition to collecting hundreds of pounds of food and clothing for the Bea Gaddy Foundation and raffled off prizes such as 48” TV to raise money for breast cancer awareness with 100% of all earnings going towards their partnering charities. Another key element to their success is attention to customer service. “Our job is to make sure everyone has a good time”, said Lo Kei. “We kick back and party the rest of the year, but when it comes to our weekend, it’s our time to put in work and I make

sure that expectation is set with all of our members. If there is a problem or issue, I want to know about it so we can address it” he continued confidently. Following this sense of humility, during last year’s party, Nasty Nev was un-shamefully moved with emotion as he began the Throttle Hand-Up Moment of Silence. Speaking passionately from his heart, there was a shared sense of camaraderie that resonated with all in attendance. Prior to taking the stage, he humbly took time to kneel with a prayer which no doubt put his spirit in the right place for his moving call for remembrance. This year the club celebrates their 16th anniversary with a “Sweet 16 Bling” theme. For the 3rd year they have chosen not to allow Colors during the evening parties as a means to promote unity within the motorcycle com-

munity. It also helps attending clubs to be creative with the different theme orientated parties as well as giving people an opportunity to truly meet and greet with each other. With such respect, support and desire to serve others, Baltimore’s Black Tigers continue to lead by example. Oh, let’s not fake like they don’t think they don’t have any “spirited” personalities, Nasty Nev, Pauly Walnutzz, Deacon, and Lil Kim to name a few. With Club DJ Lemonade, a band consisting of club members Lo Kei on bass guitar, founder Lo Jack on guitar with vocals by Babyphatt and iCandi and sound engineering by found Yoda AND an event productions team, how can they not know how to party with a purpose! blacktigersmc.com

Club Mix with Soulja Girlz’ TomBoy /TomBoy There are many clubs out there that have created their own adult beverages. Zoo Ryder’s have the Zoo shot, Dirty South Riders have the Dirty Juice aka Hunch Punch. K9 has the Dog Piss and Slut Puppy and there is a independent rider out there by the name of Wolf who makes the Wolfaid. Least not forget Down-N-Dirty, one of the east coasts premiere clubs with their Dirty Juice. In this column I am the self nominated official beverage taster aka the Drinks Connoisseur. I had the pleasure of being knocked on my tail by a Zoo shot, being Hunched by the Punch and enjoyed the simple delight of pineapples in the Wolfaid. The Hunch

Punch and Wolfaid were wickedly fruity and refreshing. Now mind you I only took sips, but I definitely felt the kick from the Wolfaid and enjoyed the Hunch Punch like it was kool-aid. If you think your club has that special beverage? Get at us and let us know. If we select your drink to be featured, you could win the pleasure of me coming out for a real taste test. Please remember to always drink responsibly - no drinking and riding or driving! Signing off with my signature Johnnie Walker Black in hand. Stay up on dem 2’s. TomBoy.

Actor, OG, reality star and now movie director are just are few of the titles rap pioneer Ice-T has claimed throughout his illustrious career. With such a dynamic list of accomplishments, who could do justice with a one-on-one with this ground-breaking legend. None other than Big Tigger, or as Ice-T refers to him, the Connoisseur of the Arts. Enjoy.

34 – April 2012 PRE-

So whats good with you brah? I’m good. Still riding this hip-hop wave and blessed to say I’ve been part of Law And Order going on 14 years now. I’m staying active in the game, doing a lot behind the scenes and of course my directorial debut with the Art of Rap, so doing this film was a big return home for me to where it all started. “Something from Nothing, The Art of Rap”, define the Art of Rap. You have five elements: Breaking, DJ’ing, MC’ing, Graffiti and Knowledge of Hip Hop. Rap is like verbal gymnastics requiring lyrical skill and timing done over beats. In the film, Big Daddy Kane says if you can rhyme “cat with hat” you can “consider” yourself a rapper. But it gets complicated when you get to the likes of Eminiem, Cool G Rap and Rakim as a fine art. Tig, you being a connoisseur of the game, you’ve interviewed all the great ones and can tell the difference between good or mediocre. With the culture being around for so long and people seeing rappers freestyle, they think it’s easy. However, there is definitely a degree of difficulty when you get into the intricacies of the fine art of rap which real aficionados recognize and appreciate. continued –>

The movie is called Something from Nothing because when we started hip hop it was nothing. There were no hip hop channels, no radio stations, no beat records. DJs’ had to break the beats to get you to rap. Now it’s a big part of global culture that started from a youth movement in the South Bronx.

BT IT

What do you hope people gain and learn from this? An appreciation. Some people laugh and make a mockery of it [Hip Hop], but it’s dead serious and shouldn’t be played with. In my situation, Hip Hop saved my life. I was absolutely going down the wrong road and without it I would definitely be in prison or killed. Instead, I took that life style, added music and unknowingly created gangsta rap. I want to direct and do features, with 20 years in the film biz, I wanted to start with something I was familiar with to give back to hip hop. Tig, you’re a real hip hop cat, you know part of hip hop is giving back. You represent it on your sleeve. Don’t dis it. Don’t talk bad about it or you got a problem. For me to be in my position today with the means to make a film, this was the best thing I can do for the culture that put me in and kept me in the game.

With always looking for the next challenge, in September 2011 released her first fictional novel, “Angel”. How long have you been riding? I started riding 2004. Wow, eight years already. Why/how did you get into riding motorcycles? I have always been the “dare devil girl.” I’ve had it all from dirt bikes to four-wheelers, go-karts, jet skis and boats. So in 2004, I decided to trade in my now “EX” husband for a set of 2’s (LOL!) and I’ve been riding happily UNmarried ever since. I wouldn’t give up riding for anything or anyone, it’s become my passion. Your current bike, your future dream bike and why? I am currently on a 2006 Yamaha R1 50th Anniversary Edition, but my future bike is much different. I want a white and blue Suzuki Boulevard M109R Limited Edition with Cobra Swept Pipes. I LOVE the look. There’s something sexy about a women on a what I call “muscle bike”. You’re most memorable moment? My most memorable moment would have to be running out of gas after passing about nine gas stations. It was one of those days where I was tired and sleepy and just wanted to get home. Although I knew my light had been on for 20+ miles, the thought of “I can make it” kept me blindly going. Well, needless to say I didn’t make it and ran out of gas less than a mile from home. A few of my friends just so happen to pull up behind me while I was stranded. Of course they got on the jokes right away considering all the gas stations I kept passing without knowing I was riding on fumes and a prayer. :-)

I met Ashon “Capo” Dickerson while shooting Rickey Gadson’s Drag Racing School in 2011. He took notice of my passion for photography as I noticed his unrelenting passion for racing. it was inevitable that we would shoot together. I arrived in Newark, NJ for our shoot as Capo and his team were loading “Goldie” his Suzuki GSXR 1000 in the trailer. As cars rode by his busy street, the home boys were blowing their horns and giving shout outs. Teenage boys and girls walked up in astonishment and exchanged fist pumps with Capo. It was

RK C

How did you get into drag racing sport bikes? My Mom and Pops were both sport bike drag racers. As long as I can remember I wanted to be a drag racer. As a kids we would drag race on my BMX and dirt bikes. We even set up mock drag races with my Hot Wheels racing cars in the house when we couldn’t get outside. I was always challenging my boys to races. I born to drag race.

RK C

When did you actually begin racing? During the summer of 1999 my Pops was loading up the trailer headed down to Englishtown, NJ to race. I asked him if I could race also. He began talking trash and said if I wanted to race I had to go ride my Mom’s 1994 Honda 1000cc CBR to the race track. So I jumped on the offer and followed parents to the track. My first pass on the track was over 100 mph. After that I was hooked.

RK C

So when did you decide to go professional? After my serious accident in 2003 from street racing. I stopped street racing and focused on developing my skills as a racer. I watched films of races in the off season. I started win-

immediately apparent this young racer had mad love in his community. After our photo shoot I met Capo’s wife Stefanie, kids, mom, and father; all of which are just as passionate about racing. I had brief conversations with the family with no intent of doing an interview. However, realizing afterwards what a great story this would make. One particular comment from the conversation with Capo’s father stood out and that was, Capo really has that “Killer Instinct” as a racer. In addition to racing, you can also find his monthly drag race column “Capo’s Cut” with Sport Bikes Inc. magazine. Enjoy the one-on-one.

ning bracket races up and down the East Coast from Orient Express’ Top Street Bike Series, MIROCK, NOPI, to NHRA. I was awarded the NHRA divisional “The Wally” trophy, an accomplishment not many racers can claim. In 2008 I won Pinks “Arm Drop” race, receiving a $20,000 custom “Pinks Arm Drop” bobber.

RK C

What was one of the worst times in your history racing? My life-threatening accident in 2003. I actually died in the operating room and was revived, remaining in a coma for nine days. I realized life was too short and it too precious. I have zero tolerance for bull shit. Since then I can count no more than 15 times riding on the street like that.

RK C

Has been hard getting sponsors? Hell yeah! You must invest in yourself first before even stepping to a corporate sponsor. Getting corporate sponsorship isn’t only about doing well on the track, but also off the track. Having a positive image in the public eye and how to conduct business is a must. If you’re fortunate to get a sponsor you have to work hard to keep that sponsor. continued –>

Nothing is guaranteed. I like to thank my title sponsor Schampa, Pirelli Motorcycle Drag Racing, K&N Filters and Scorpion Helmets for being part of my team. Fans can see more of my sponsors at www.adickersonracing.com.

RK C

What has racing done for you in general? It has taken me places I would never have seen. It’s also provided me the opportunity to meet people from other parts of the country and the world. Racing has also allowed me to help motivate and inspire young people who have similar a background as I do. I love this sport!

RK C

What is your advice to the young racers looking to be the next Capo? I would never, never advise anyone to do any level of street racing what-so-ever. Do your racing on the track where it is a controlled environment. I also learn a lot from watching video footage. I’ve actually learned more this way by observing experienced racers. You also can’t listen to everybody’s advice. If they see a Capo or Rickey Gadson come holler. Find that someone who will not steer you wrong and get that seat time in. Last of all, you have to be mentally tough to jump in the shark tank.

Health with Debra “Lady ‘D”

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Within this month and throughout the year, a collaboration of national public service organizations, professional medical associations and government agencies work together to promote breast cancer awareness, share information on the disease and, provide greater access to services. Breast Cancer forms in tissues of the breast and is broken into two main types; Ductal carcinoma and Lobular carcinoma. These two forms of breast cancers occur in both men and women. Although male breast cancer is rare, it is not uncommon and must be taken seriously. In rare cases, breast cancer can also start in other areas of the breast. Breast cancer may be invasive or noninvasive. Invasive means it has spread from the milk duct or lobule to other tissues in the breast. Noninvasive, also referred to as “in situ” means it has not yet invaded other breast tissue. New and improved treatments are helping those with breast cancer live longer than ever. However, even with treatment breast cancer can spread to other parts of the body. Unfortunately, cancer can return after the entire tumor is removed and nearby lymph nodes are found to be cancer-free. Can lifestyle changes prevent breast cancer? Experts advise to eat a well-balanced diet 62 ThrottleLife.com | Fall/Winter 2012 Special Edition

and avoid focusing on one “cancer-fighting” food. The American Cancer Society’s dietary guidelines for cancer prevention recommend eating five or more servings of fruits and vegetables each day, limit alcohol consumption and choose whole grains instead of refined grain products Ask yourself, have you had your Mammogram this year? Are you performing a monthly self breast exam? Are you supporting a loved one or friend diagnosed with breast cancer? Let’s “Think Pink”. Pray for a cure. Inspire each other. Narrate to all. Keep the faith. Yes, we can do our part to help cure breast cancer and save lives.

Her goal is to turn pro with pink ribbons a’blazing. Not only is she a drag racer, she is a true SURVIVOR! Unlike others in the industry, Lea didn’t begin riding until she was 37. However, she quickly up made for lost time and within six short months she was learning how to drag race. That was five years ago. In 2009

L

I am a wife and mother of two amazing children, Samantha 22 and Victor 14. I am a breast cancer SURVIVOR 2.5 years out now. I have always loved drag racing, probably because my father raced pro-stock cars when I was very young. I also had a love for motorcycles, but never had the opportunity to learn until later in life. It wasn’t until I was 37 when I got on a bike for the first time and was hooked! I started drag racing locally in Florida and then continued on with AMA PROStar in 2006. It’s been a long road with big obstacles and potholes, but I’m knocking down those obstacles and stomping in the potholes, moving forward with the help of my family and friends. I certainly believe it’s worthwhile and things are coming together thanks to the support of caring individuals in my corner.

C L

How do you feel being a female in a male dominated sport? I like it because I’m competitive by nature. Simply pulling up to the staging area sometimes gets in their heads. However, at the same time I don’t believe we’re given opportunities to prove ourselves because they think “oh she’s a woman, she can’t handle all this power.” If they only knew, lol.....

C L

What are your goals? That’s easy. To be the best racer I can be with always working to win and continuing to raise awareness for breast cancer while helping others whenever I possibly can. I’m also going to continue to work hard for my sponsors by giving their products or services as much exposure as possible. They believe in me and I certainly believe in them.

C L

What sponsors would you like to recognize and thank? I definitely have to recognize and sincerely thank ARD-Enterprises.com, Inc, RedLineDesign, FJ Motorsports, Evil SwingArms, Rivtor Media, Urban Cowgirls. Larry “SpiderMan” Mc Bride, Cp/Carrillo, Cometic Gaskets, Millennium Technologies, Kibble White, K & N, Web Cams, Williford Racing and Cooper Performance - this is the team that helped with the motor rebuild with a huge THANKs to Larry for making that possible! In the custom bike game, the competition between media outlets is gangster when it comes to locking down a new bike to shoot and feature, especially those bikes associated with a charity. Unfortunately most of them seem to forget the story behind the bike or what happens after the bike has been featured, awarded, donated and is simply no-longer the flavor of the month. Not us. For the past several years Garwood Custom Cycles (Lexington, North Carolina) chooses a charity for their annual custom build projects. continued –>

In 2011, Susan G. Komen for the Cure was selected as their charity to support with a custom 2006 Kawasaki 636 to raise money via a raffle for their local Susan G. Komen for the Cure chapter with 100% of the proceeds benefiting the Susan G. Komen NC Triad. Upon completion of the build, the Kawi spent a year on tour appearing at events including the International Motorcycle Show, the MIRock Series and other mid-Atlantic shows and events campaigning to raise awareness and funds for this truly deserving cause with an opportunity to win this magnificent machine. This is where the story behind the bike gets interesting. The drawing was announced on May 5th during the NC Triad Race for the Cure.

72 ThrottleLife.com | Fall/Winter 2012 Special Edition

Unfortunately, when raffle winner Michael Hulm’s (of Belle Plaine, Minnesota) winning ticket was pulled, he was nowhere to be found. The following day, Steve Garwood (Garwood Customs co-owner) contacted Michael’s wife to congratulate him on the win, only to discover Michael was en-route back to the States from his National Guard tour of duty serving in Kuwait. When Michael finally returned home just a mere two days after the drawing, his wife was obviously overjoyed to have her hubby home. However, with all the excitement of his return, the message of winning the bike was inadvertently confused with a beater-bike Michael purchased while on deployment. So poor Michael never received the news of winning the raffle. After a couple of days of settling back in, Michael decided to check out Garwood’s Facebook

page to see the results. To his amazement he saw his name as the winner. In complete disbelief and thinking he was being punked, he quickly called Garwood Customs for verification. Yes, he was indeed the winner. “I noticed the chance to win the bike while on deployment, but never thought I would actually win” said Michael. “ I purchased two tickets primarily to help support the cause” he continued. “Winning such an incredible bike was a dream come true. I’m proud to ride the streets and serve as a rolling campaign to bring awareness and support to this charity. Plus, with all the custom work such as the LEDs, the air-ride, the 240-rear, extended swing-arm and chrome accents I get stopped all the time for pictures and questions. It’s incredible and I’m truly grateful!” He continued enthusiastically.

Looks like Michael’s ticket strategy paid off. Throughout the year long pre-drawing campaign, Garwood Customs literally reached more than 80 thousand in this outreach effort. The bike can now be seen rolling through the streets of Minnesota and at various shows and events, continuing to serve as a lasting campaign to bring awareness in hopes of one day eradicating this life-threatening cancer from our worlds. However, that’s not how their story starts. Baby Girl started as a passenger on the back of Dollar’s bike, until she grew bored with the view from the passenger’s seat. From that point on, she was determined to ride her own bike and she did. She already knew the basics of riding a motorcycle, but wanted to fine tune her skills so she enrolled in the Motorcycle Safety Foundation’s (MSF) program. “Although I knew how to ride, I took the MSF program because there are skills and techniques taught you may have forgotten or simply didn’t know” she said. After the course, she quickly got her license

and her own bike with Dollar’s more than willingness to help. Needless to say, she hasn’t been on the back of a bike since. When it came to her choice of bikes, sportbikes weren’t even a consideration. “I knew I was too much of a dare-devil and adrenaline junkie to go the sportbike route, so a cruiser was a no-brainer for me” she said laughingly. Baby Girl picked up a 2006 Harley-Davidson Softail Deluxe, smoothed it out with a slick white and yellow paint job accented with an orange tribal pattern trimmed in green from the front fairing to the saddle bags. Visually coming together to

find the cutest and meanest little Tweety-Bird perched on the rear fender as if to say “yeah, so what about it.” “It’s fun riding together”, says Dollar. “It gives us a chance to get out as a couple and do something we both enjoy... riding” he continued. Like many of us, Dollar (a 10 year Air Force vet) began his riding days on a sportbike, a Kawasaki ZX-9 to be exact. After a short period of time on the ZX-9, he moved up to a ZX-12 where he was content until his cousin convinced him to “step-up” to a HarleyDavidson. Dollar’s first reaction was “naw, not

yet”, given he was only 27 year old and not remotely interested in an “old-mans” bike as he described it. That is until he actually rode his cousin’s Harley. As they say, the rest is history. He picked up a 2005 Harley-Davidson Electra Road Glide and let his Kawi sit for an entire year before finally deciding to let it go, forever putting his sport-bike days behind him. With help from Raphael Proctor of Artistic Creations (located in Clinton, MD), they created one of the cleanest baggers on the streets with a unique multi-color pearlescent paint job with the style and finesse of the west coast scene. continued –>

Getting Back on Track Motivation comes from a variety of sources. For me, its comes from my trainer, family, friends and fans, but most of all my motivation comes from within. You also have to love yourself first and foremost. I love me. I love the way I look and the changes I am making to my body. It feels good and It is in my blood now, so start with loving yourself. What motivates you? Have you fallen off living a healthy lifestyle and need to get back on track for a healthier you? Remember the fundamentals of a successful training program: Breathe, warm up, stretch and hydrate. Although simple, when applied correctly these fundamentals enable you to have a truly effective workout. Take conscious steps to ease back into a daily workout routine. Step 2 - Commit Write a commitment statement to exercise for 10 days straight. Did you know it takes 10 days to break or begin a habit? Take one day at a time and before you know it, that 10th day will there.

Step 5 - Exercise Exercise for at least 15 minutes, even if you can’t schedule a regular workout. If you do cardio, push yourself so it becomes harder to breathe sooner. If you lift weights, pick up heavier weights or shorten the time period between sets. You may find you get more done in 15 minutes than you would in a half hour if you increase the intensity of your workout.

Step 3 - Nutrition Pack your diet with nutrient-dense foods and snacks to fuel your workouts such as berries, spinach, nuts, protein bars, whole grains and cereal. Small portions are key. Fall/Winter 2012 Special Edition | ThrottleLife.com – 91

Star Motorcycles, a division of Yamaha Motors Corporation was created to help distinguish Yamaha’s sport bike line from their fleet of cruisers in order to hone in directly on the needs and preferences of the vast cruiser market. Has this branding decision paid off? That question is still being determined. However, one thing is certain, the decision-makers at Star are listening to their customers while passionately creating an edgier appeal.

ThrottleLife.com | Fall/Winter 2012 Special Edition 92 – ThrottleLife.com | Fall/Winter 2012 Special Edition

Case and point. I wasn’t thrilled with Star’s 2011 Stratoliner Deluxe as noted in my review of that model. The over abundant retro chrome horizontal lines on the tank were a bit excessive, limiting its appeal to those digging that 50s retro look. There were areas such as this where Star went overboard while other areas were simply overlooked. The 2011 model also felt large and heavy. Fast forward a year later and it appears that Star took heed to customers’ comments by offering a more refined and improved Stratoliner Deluxe for 2012. In short, I was pleasantly surprised with

the very noticeable improvements during my seat time. The integrated flip down Garmin 665 navigation unit is positioned dead center within the rider’s line of vision, and the integrated iPod/ iPhone radio controls are easily accessible with the left thumb, while the new chrome trimmed speakers add a nice visual element. In this instance, new and improved isn’t a tricky marketing tactic. The 2012 Stratoliner confidently lives up to that claim. My ride time didn’t stop with the Stroliner Deluxe, just one offering in Star’s stable of

bikes which includes everything from their entry level and daring V Star 250 cruiser to their insanely fun VMAX, and right to the new Star Custom Line (SCL) starting with the hardcore Raider SCL. So as you see they literally have a product for every level of experience. But that’s not all folks. They also wanted to ascertain riders were taken cared of for many years after the purchase of their new machines by providing an extensive array of accessories that are sure to satisfy even the wildest of imaginations. These custom parts are not mere afterthoughts. continued –>

Fall/Winter 2012 Special Edition | ThrottleLife.com – 93

They are created in tandem with the associated bike as it’s being designed or retooled in order to ensure a perfect fit and integration. Once the design has been approved, the accessories are then put through rigorous lab and road tests long before going into production. Again, ensuring a perfect integration for “built to last” and “built to be ridden” quality. Another interesting fact is that Star Motorcycles’s styling takes place in southern California by GK Design International with 3D modeling work by Jeff Palhegyi Designs. All in all, I found a new level of appreciation and to be honest, respect for Star’s diverse yet strategic stable of iron horses with the Roadliner S taking the title as my personal favorite. While the Roadliner S was my top pick, a fellow journalist found it too big for

94 ThrottleLife.com | Fall/Winter 2012 Special Edition

his taste and preferred the maneuverability of the Raider SCL. One of the female journalists preferred the V Star 950’s ease of use over the raked-out wicked Star Stryker while another found the Stryker’s styling to be exactly what she wanted in a bike. This is what makes Star’s line-up strategic while offering a product for riders from all walks of life. And for those moving from the sport bike world to the cruiser market, rest assured the same precision engineering tuning forks you’ve come to trust from Yamaha are aptly applied to their Star line-up, making it that much easier to stay in the family. Do yourself a favor and check out Star’s line up. Just be forewarned, you will sub-consciously find yourself being tugged into the gravitational pull of the Star Motorcycle lifestyle. Not bragging, just trying to put things in perspective while describing the magnitude of Kawasaki’s 2013 Ninja 300 and Ninja 636 launch. It was impressive as they literally took over New York’s Times Square for this release.

This was more than just the launch of two bikes that are primed to shake up the industry. It was an event captured on the jumbo monitors of arguably the most recognized city in the world for all to see. A product launch with a few bells and whistles within Times Square may have sufficed to some, but not Big Green. Not only did they engage the media, but they also brilliantly enthused the general public by providing a fashion and stunt show by Team No Limit’s Jason Brittain and Eric Hoenshell with models rocking gear from ICON Apparel. Kawasaki’s own drag race World Champion Rickey Gadson was in attendance as well as FIM World Supercross Champion and AMA Motocross Champion Ryan Villopoto. World Superbike racer Tom Sykes was also in the mix. Model and fellow rider Tyson Beckford also came out to play. If the aforementioned activities weren’t enough to keep you around, the Times Square Take Over culminated into the giving away of a 2013 Ninja 300 won by Valan “Pryme” Primus of the Bronx and a 2013 Ninja 636 won by Rachael Nadeau of Annapolis, MD. Kawasaki, being very appreciative and humbled by NYC’s cooperation with allowing them such exclusive access to this coveted area, graciously donated a Ninja 300 and Ninja 636 to City Harvest, both of which will be auctioned off with all proceeds going to feeding New Yorks’ hungry. My buddy Tigger and I were invited to participate in Jason Pridmore’s STAR (Skills and Techniques for Advanced Riding) Motorcycle School, held at Virginia International Raceway (VIR) in Alton, VA. Our excitement set in immediately. You mean we can learn to drag our knees properly on a professional race course without buying full leathers or using our own bikes? Count us in! So who is Jason Pridmore (JP), you ask? Simply put, Chief instructor Jason Pridmore is an AMA Formula Extreme Champion, AMA Supersport Champion, FIM World Endurance Champion and the only American to ever stand on the podium of a World Supersport race and countless podiums wins. So, we’re about to learn directly from this guy? SWEET! Awaiting our arrival on class day was an awesome lineup of Suzuki GSXR 600s, 750s, and SV650s for students who didn’t bring

After signing the required waivers and liability forms, we donned our Dainese leather track suits and headed to the classroom to meet and learn from JP. After the introductory session, the class was divided into a Street Group and Advanced Group, each group taking turns between classroom instruction and running laps on VIR’s 2.25-mile North Course. The purpose of these laps was to learn passing, hand signals, and more importantly, the track. I was happy to ride their Suzuki GSXR 750, which happens to be the same make and model as my own bike. After about 10 or so laps, we headed back into class to learn downshifting techniques, how to locate the true entry point, apex and exit of a curve, and when to begin acceleration after a

turn. Then it was back on the track to practice. The goal here wasn’t speed, but to learn and practice your new techniques. Once you’ve mastered the techniques, speed will come, Jason assured us. Despite that guidance, guys and gals alike were getting seriously busy on the track! The experience was thrilling and exhilarating, but above all: SAFE. No need to worry about cars, gravel, oil patches, tractor trailers, douchebags in M3s; nothing but the wind and the track. OoooooooWeeeeeee! After lunch, it was back to the classroom to learn proper riding positioning for better cornering. The class was then invited to watch, and more importantly listen to, Jason run laps on the track. We watched his speed. Checked his form and positioning. Listened to his downshift and acceleration. Then it was back

on the track to practice what we just learned, with JP’s fellow pro riders on the track offering invaluable one-on-one coaching. One of the best parts of this class is being able to “2-up” with JP. The purpose is to physically feel when he downshifts and accelerates, observe his speed, witness his lean angle and feel how often he moves in his seat. After getting my turn to 2-up, all I could to say is WOW! Words can’t describe the thrill and fright that comes along with physically witnessing a pro rider’s breathtaking speed and stance. I thought I was going to fly off the bike no less than 10 times. And we were told he was only riding at 40% of his ability! The other words that describe the feeling I had riding with JP contain far too many expletives. continued –>

Fall/Winter 2012 Special Edition | ThrottleLife.com – 111

After a bit more classroom time, we ran more laps, combining all of our new techniques, including proper breathing. I could feel the improvement. I downshifted better. My positioning was right and I was going faster and faster through each turn. At the end of class, we had the opportunity to purchase professional photos showing off our track day. Then, Jason took questions and handed out certificates of successful completion. Jason was then politely mobbed by students, thanking him for such an awesome day and asking even more follow-up questions. If I ever have the chance to do something like this again, I’m absolutely taking it and highly encourage all riders to do so. The skills learned in Jason’s STAR school will surely benefit every type of rider, whether you are a road racer or a weekend warrior. A huge THANKS to Michael Jordan Motorsports, Jason Pridmore, and all of the instructors and employees at VIR and STAR school for such an incredible opportunity. Earlier this year I was provided with a unique opportunity to ride a 2012 Cory Ness Cross Country edition Victory Motorcycle throughout my summer travels. What was expected of me was simple; take plenty of pictures and ride anywhere and everywhere, which I gladly did without hesitation from Atlantic Beach Bike Fest in Myrtle Beach, SC to the 7th Annual Bikers Against Breast Cancer Charity in Newark, NJ as well as several bike nights and open house events. continued –>

All too soon however, this journey has now ended. But what a wonderful journey it was. First and foremost, I would like to thank Sarah Timleck of ST Creates for connecting me and the PRO Convention, USA with Robert and Manny Pandya of Victory Motorcycles. I would also like to thank Robert and Manny for allowing me to experience an American made bagger for the entire summer. Being a Kawasaki sportbike rider, I’m must admit this was a positive eye-opening experience. I have now become a true fan of the Victory brand and plan on adding a Cross Country or a Hammer to my stable. I was sold on the comfort, style, maneuverability, and power. Everywhere I traveled; this diamond-cut 1800cc V-Twin beauty had everyone talking. It’s a sexy bike with all the goodies from a custom suede seat, billet wheels, custom Ness chrome mirrors, grips, and driver’s floorboards to a Kicker premium audio

system combined with its attention grabbing styling dipped in a bold Boardwalk blue and black custom paint scheme. I have to give thanks to my brother, Kenneth “Flash” Neely of KNeely Images (kneelyimages.com) for his dedicated photo documentation of my travels on the Victory. Much love and respect to LB of Throttle Life for the opportunity to share my Victory experience. To be acknowledged and recognized by a major motorcycle manufacturer is a dream come true for me and the PRO Convention, USA. Lastly, thank you to Victory Motorcycles on behalf of Biker’s Against Breast Cancer for sponsoring a customized Cross Country to be raffled with all proceeds being donated to the organization. Victory Motorcycles has taken grassroots approach by starting in the trenches. Others in the industry believe there

is no purpose to market to “us” because we’re not a target audience. Victory proved by their actions that our community is just as significant as any other market. Beyond this dynamic outreach effort, they have a solid product line-up. If you haven’t checked out a Victory, you owe it to yourself to do so.

I already miss riding my Victory, but not for long. We will be reunited in the near future.

The Texas Motor Speedway in Ennis Texas (approximately an hour south of Dallas) was the host location of this year’s National Bikers Roundup. Not familiar with the National Bikers Roundup? In brief, the “Roundup” is considered the largest camping motorcycle rally in the country, not only for the AfricanAmerican community, but for all. Although the Roundup may not have the commercial popularity of Daytona Bike Week or Sturgis, it still remains one of the most anticipated events of the year within the AfricanAmerican motorcycle community. We’ve had the pleasure of attending the Roundup since its Dinwiddie, VA appearance in 2002 with only missing a few cities since. Why? For the same reason hundreds of thousands attend this event, the camaraderie and unity.

120 ThrottleLife.com | Fall/Winter 2012 Special Edition

This year’s Roundup attracted more than 24k riders, literally from coast to coast. The Roundup included a female riders seminar, demo rides from long time supporter and corporate sponsor Harley-Davidson, a custom bike show, the unveiling of a tribute bike by Howard White in honor of his son, a soldier in the U.S. Army who was killed serving our country, stunts via the ICON Limiter Live featuring Team No Limit’s Eric Hoenshell and of course drag racing with special guest World Champion Rickey Gadson. The highlight of this year’s Roundup was the entertainment. The Texas Roundup committee did their thing setting a new precedent for the level of entertainment for others to follow.

MC’ing the nightly entertainment was D. Elli$ aka Mr. Entertainment. With his on-stage spirited and approachable persona mixed with laughter and dance contests, the crowd was never bored. Omen’s m/c Big Mucci had the crowd stepping with his infamous Bikers Shuffle along with a new step he dropped. Filling the night air with a truly electrifying performance was Zapp. These dudes put on an energitic show making the most of the entire stage while incorporating several costume changes. Making a surprise appearance during Zapp’s act was Harley rider and Grammy award winning gospel artist Fred Hammond with an absolutely uplifting faith-filled performance. Adding a smooth neo-soul ingredient to Saturday night’s line-up was a captivating performance

by Billboard Award winner and Grammy nominee R&B singer KEM. Throughout his performance, the ladies were entranced singing along with to songs while the fellas were vib’ing to his groove. If you ever get a chance to see any of these artists, do it. You will not be disappointed. The 2013 Roundup will take place in Tunica, Mississippi at the Tunica Arena & Exposition Center from 31 July to 3 August. No doubt, we will be there. The Texas Committee brought their A-Game with the entertainment, so we can’t wait to see what the Miss’ has in store for everyone. After all, the Roundup has some of the most dedicated followers traveling from great distances and deserve the best. See you in Miss! more pix:

EyesWi d e Shut … Does It Matter? \Troy Rawlings

128 – ThrottleLife.com | Fall/Winter 2012 Special Edition

@Troy Rawlings

Since I’m always asking some kind of intimate sex or love question, which is usually pulled from the depths of my imagination, it’s no wonder this next topic boggles my mind. It’s the “Why do you close your eyes during Sex?” question. I’m not sure if I’m the only one bothered by this and I know some of you are saying “stop being so petty Troy, at least SEX is happening!” Really? If you’re happy with just having sex then stop reading this column NOW. But if you’re in search of sexual bliss in every 2-minute quickie and 180 minute Tantric session, then you feel me when I say that it all matters in our connection with one another. During our passionate, wet, sensual, deep love making as I was above my lover, I noticed her eyes were slammed shut as she moaned…as the sweat dripped from my head down to her beautiful nose. She jumped because that sex-sweat startled her! Why, because she was deep in thought somewhere else. Hey, that’s my opinion on the matter. We all know women are deeply emotional, wonderful, complex, and picturesque creatures. That being said, if women are highly sensual, romanticized, and sensitive to every touch and she dreams about you, why close your eyes when you’re with the man of your dreams? Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying that there aren’t times

when the loving is so good that you close your eyes in ecstasy, but not for the whole time. Men usually keep our eyes open during sexual enjoyment. We want to see the ripples in your cheeks as we do it doggy-style, the looks of pain and pleasure on your face as we’re thrusting inside you like Jason from Friday the 13th, to see your hair (real, weave, short or long) as we pull it or enticingly sticks to the sweat on your face. Bottom line, all of the hot sights of sex. Men only close their eyes to think about things that will prolong their premature ejaculations. That’s pretty much it. Ladies and gentlemen, if a man closes his eyes during sex it’s a compliment. If a woman closes her eyes, she’s probably wondering who she could actually be with. “Yes, yes… take it Kobe”, “Go deeper Denzel”, “Work it Webster” or whatever her fantasy calls for. So, if you want to increase the passion in your love-making, try looking at your lover. No matter how ugly a face they make, embrace it. Because if you close your eyes while we’re having sex, I’m going to make goofy faces at you…I’m serious, sticking my tongue out, holding my nose up and more so you better keep your eyes wide open! Until The Next Time Much Love, Troy

013 Ram 1500:

der They Come courtsey AutomotiveRhythms.com

It was 2007 when Automotive Rhythms took an in-house customized 2008 Ram 1500 Crew Cab on an East Coast tour from events such as Clutch Control and the DUB Show to bike club events including Millenium Sportbike Rides and Rowdy Riders to enlighten bikers on the capabilities of the aggressive full-size and light-duty pickup truck from the domestic manufacturer. Our plan was simple; bikers needed to either load or haul their precious commodity conveniently and securely. The Ram was the answer, and to this day the AR team still receives inquiries about the Ram and how it fulfills the lifestyles of a niche group of truck buyers. Wait until we elaborate on the key details of the 2013 Ram and its offerings to this group! continued –>

Fall/Winter 2012 Special Edition | ThrottleLife.com – 133

Since our 2007 Urban Bike Tour, much has changed with the company; the most significant change being the separation of Ram from Dodge brand in the fall of 2009. Now, Ram is its own individual brand of truck, and even has its very own president and CEO. Talk about accountability. So it’s no wonder Fred M. Diaz infused the 2013 Ram with its current level of superiority, quality, performance, safety and technology. And with 11 models, two engines, two transmissions, as well as 2WD and 4x4 configurations, twelve colors in three cab choices: a Regular Cab, Quad Cab or Crew Cab to select from, there is literally a Ram 1500 truck to suit each and every type of pickup truck buyer in the marketplace. Customers can select from several trim levels: the ST (fleet), Tradesman, Express, SLT, Big Horn, Lone Star, Outdoorsman, Sport, R/T, Laramie, and Laramie Longhorn.

134 ThrottleLife.com | Fall/Winter 2012 Special Edition

In addition, the Ram 1500 Mossy Oak Edition and Laramie Limited have been added to the lineup for the active enthusiast and affluent pickup owner. During a recent test-drive through the outskirts of Nashville, TN we were able to evaluate a majority of the aforementioned models -- my favorite being the True Blue exterior and Canyon Brown/Light Frost interior 1500 Crew Cab Laramie 4x4. The new Ram is as hardcore as they come, but delivers the sophisticated touch that today’s customers are demanding. Doesn’t this sound delightful?: an 8-speed transmission; 4 Corner Air Suspension; rear back-up camera; Keyless go; projector headlamps; an 8.4” LCD screen with

downloadable apps and a 7” full color LCD Information Center (350 screens of services); locking tailgate due to the large amount of thefts; and a fuel saving stop/start system. These features not only allow the Ram to perform its traditional array of duties such as hauling tree trunks and towing trailers, but permits the driver and passengers to enjoy the “to and from” ride in style, comfort and efficiency. Power for the 2013 Ram 1500 originates from either the enhanced HEMI 5.7-liter V8 with Fuel Saver Technology or the Pentastar 3.6-liter V6 engine. The HEMI will give you 395 horsepower and 407 lb.-ft. of torque at 3,950 rpm while the Pentastar offers a substantial 305 horsepower and 269 lb.-ft. of torque at 4,175 rpm.

My favorite offering of the new Ram is the 4 Corner Air Suspension, which Ram says is probably their biggest singular improvement. There are four different ride heights that increase the total range of travel up to 4”. The default height is 8.7” of clearance. Off-road 1 and Off-road 2 adjust the height another 1.2” and 2” respectfully from the default load-level. Park Mode lowers the suspension to 6.7” of ground clearance for comfortable exiting and loading. A fifth mode, Aero, is automatic and drops the Ram .6” when it hits 62 mph. Weight was reduced from the prior model in almost every area. An aluminum hood, new bumper, aluminum control arms, fog lights, steel wheels and more, all add to the lightened form. Already the most dominant and menacing front fascia in all of truck-land, the Ram’s grille and has been re-sculpted and has grown 30mm taller.

Fall/Winter 2012 Special Edition | ThrottleLife.com – 135

Step up into the Ram and discover a brave new world of interior craftsmanship. Now, it is possible to select simple interiors with cloth seats and basic trimmings, yet, Ram has the versatility of allowing owners to haul up to 11,500 pounds and carry loads up to 3,125 pounds as if they’re in a golden chariot, replete with full leather, multi-layered woods and trim, and a new center stack with more gadgetry than an iPad, including a 115-volt outlet, 12volt outlets, a USB input and the 8.4” Uconnect multi-media center. Inside the wide and deep center console, there is another set of power sources, including USB, a 12-volt and an SD slot. A dual glove compartment and a multitude of slots, indentations and storage bins are omnipresent throughout the cabin. Uconnect not only provides precise and graphically

136 ThrottleLife.com | Fall/Winter 2012 Special Edition

enhanced navigating, but also operates your media devices, music, climate and WiFi through partners Sprint and Bluetooth for phone pairing while offering an array of apps just like the iPad. On sale in October, expect the 2013 Ram 1500 to start pricing at $23,585 and increase to $47,420 for a 1500 4X4 Crew Laramie Longhorn. The Ram Active Level air suspension options for $1,595, and it’s a must have! For the complete review, visit AutomotiveRhythms.com
