Welcome to our annual digital mag. This year, we’re taking a look back on 2016 as we gear up for another exciting year ahead. Why? This issue almost didn’t make it and got us thinking. We all know of the dangers we face every time we roll out, so why not take a moment to reflect with those that continue to support us. During the production of this issue we suffered a significant set-back with the theft of several hard drives and a workstation as a result of a break-in all of which with critical files related to this issue. Needless to say, this had a direct impact on whether or not this issue would ever been seen. The work involved in reconstructing articles, layout and flow is very time consuming to say the least. But, there was so much that took place in 2016 and this year thus far that we couldn’t let it go. There were too many great events, too many top bikes and too many accomplishments to let this go. The fun Summer Series Shoots with Adrenaline Lifestyles, Premium Fuel magazine with support of Down-N-Dirty MC, the Goon Giveaway and holiday season outreach efforts, our time with the inspiring Autumn Joi Live, and our valued partnership with Thunder Roads MidAtlantic all of which deserve to be shared. Shout to Harley-Davidson of Washington Acting GM Alan who didn’t hesitate to step up to support during our initial outreach and the continued support. Also, much respect to Sportbikes Inc. Publisher Allan Lane. This gentleman was with me when the break-in was discovered. As I stood motionless contemplating some medieval actions to the jackass that snatch my property, Brother Lane jumped into action identifying a nearby security camera and security office as well as down with my medieval actions helping to make this bad situation tolerable. Bottom line, set-backs don’t have to keep you back. As Gospel great Donnie McClurkin dropped, “We fall down, but we get up.” Dust your-self off and keep Risn’ to the top Throttle Life Nation!

Harley-Davidson (HD) introduced their Iron Elite outreach initiative in 2010 as a means of recognizing and celebrating the rich heritage and contributions African-Americans Riders have made within the motorcycle community. Dealerships throughout the nation, unfortunately, were slow to adopt and embrace this outreach effort. However, where others were hesitant, some boldly and courageously embraced this effort recognizing the many facets that make up the Harley-Davidson family of Riders and HD’s outreach consisting of Harlistas, Soldier Stories, No Cages, and #Sterotypical to name a few. Harley-Davidson of Washington, DC under the ownership of Mr. Thomas Moorehead and Mr. Lowell Duckett (Tank) at the helm as then General Manager is one of those dealerships

to step up and out with recognizing and celebrating H-D’s Iron Elite movement successfully as evidenced with the dealership overflowing with Riders on all brands and styles coming out to enjoy and support despite a cloudy chilly day in the DMV. The day’s activities consisted of music, food and vendors along with performance workshops and fashion show featuring kiddies and adults doing their thing on the showroom’s cat walk. Providing the live music entertainment was DC’s own Go-Go leader Familiar Faces while ATL’s Big Cell of Fast Harleys Only rocked the mic mc’ing the custom bike and sound contest hosted by Uptown Motorsports with more than $2k awarded in prizes and cash including raffle prizes provided by Bagger Boyz.

Down N’ Dirty MC once again brought the heat on a cold January winter’s night to the DMV. Although the temps outside were cold, within the DC Armory DJ J-Roc & Graham Cracker kept the audience lit with their fluid style as DJ and attendees vibed off one another for good-time vibe that filled atmosphere. Also heating things up was fitness expert and Pole fitness instructor Ms. Peru (@msperushow) with a sexy acrobatic Cirque du Soleil inspired routine you have to see to believe. Congrats to RoadWolves MC for Most Attended with a close second to the Masonic Rider MC – it was cool to watch these Riders joke and interact during the count with a mutual respect 14 | ThrottleLife.com and laughter. #RidersUnited

For those members of our audience that may not know of this dynamic young lady, it gives us great pleasure to introduce you to Autumn Joi. For those of you already aware of this remarkably talented, reality star, radio personality, actress, TV ONE and TMZ correspondent and least we not forget trendsetting true model, allow us to re-introduce you to a side you may not know, the adrenaline loving, wheelie popping, BikeLife fanatic side of Autumn Joi Live. Always grinding and reinventing herself while remaining true to her core beliefs and principals, Autumn’s career has endured and is enduring the test of time. This is in part to not only her insatiable sense of hustle, but also her ability to remain grounded as she takes on new challenges such as with the male dominated BikeLife scene.
22 | ThrottleLife.com
Always having a bit of a tomboy within, the lure of the BikeLife started calling. So needless to say she had to answer and did so in a big way with reaching out with some of the most recognized talents in the BikeLife movement such as the infamous Wheelie Wayne as her mentor with her weapon of choice, a Yamaha Raptor 700 that affectionately goes by Ricco. One of Autumn’s goals is to help empower young ladies by being an example that anything is possible with hard work and determination. “You want to stunt. Do it. You want to get that degree. Do it. I’m thankful and grateful for the opportunities I’ve had because they’ve helped shape me into the person I am today.” she says with smile. “This is why I want to give back and show young ladies they can achieve their dreams and goals.
ThrottleLife.com | 23
I want to show its OK, to have fun and stunt around while still being that intelligent feminine woman within that likes to be cute at the club she continued with joy. This is just the beginning as she now embarks on yet another new challenging and rewarding opportunity, the mid-day personality on K97.5 in Raleigh North Carolina. For more be sure to follow her on Instagram and Twitter @AutumnJoiLive. AutumnJoiLive. #UNSTOPPABLE

We all know of the infamous Rolling Thunder ride that takes place in the Nation’s Capital during Memorial Day weekend. But, did you know Rolling Thunder isn’t the only thunder that rolls into Washington D.C. during Memorial Day weekend? The Buffalo Soldiers, Troopers MC and Troopers also bring their own thunder to the Nation’s Capital during the Memorial Day weekend with their Buffalo Thunder Memorial Ride to give honor and remembrance of AfricanAmericans who have served our country military.
28 | ThrottleLife.com
Not familiar with the Buffalo Thunder Memorial Ride? Please allow us to share the news of this thunderous and very well respected ride with a strong following and support. The ride includes independent riders as well as other motorcycle clubs creating an eclectic mix of baggers, cruisers, gliders, choppers, trikes and sport-bikes for a truly inclusive ride. What else would you expect from one of the largest and oldest motorcycle clubs in the nation? Hosted by the Maryland Mother Chapter of the Buffalo
Soldiers, Buffalo Thunder brings together chapters throughout the nation for their Buffalo Soldiers’ Annual Music, Jazz Festival and Family Picnic. The annual festival and ride also serves a purpose with proceeds going to college scholarships as well as a donation to the African-American Civil War Memorial and Museum in Washington D.C. We had the fortune of meeting Ken “Dreamcatcher” Thomas, the National President and Founder of the National Association of Buffalo Soldiers and Troopers
Motorcycle Club and Chicago chapter’s Maurice “Grave Hunter” Henderson during the kick-off of Harley-Davidson’s Iron Elite exhibit along with having the pleasure of working with Buffalo Soldier member and photographer Samuel “Roadkill” Still. All three gentlemen tried to describe the magnitude of the Buffalo Thunder Memorial Ride, however words fail to describe the awe-inspiring sight of seeing this modern day iron horse cavalry thundering through the streets of the Nation’s Capital.

Hundreds of thousands of motorcyclist from near and across the globe make the annual trek to Daytona for the world renowned Daytona Beach Bike to join in the festivities from Destination Daytona for the various bagger contests, Daytona International Speedway with vendors galore and the action on the track, Beach Street for more vendors and top builders, the soul of bike week on McLeod Boulevard, the legendary Rat’s Hole custom competition, The Cabbage Patch’s custom show, Kory Souza’s first annual “No Class” custom bike show (this one deserves its own spread) and of course the day and night action on Main Street. Beach Street is a must stop when making the rounds. With industry innovators like Camtech Custom Baggers, Misfit Industries, Shannon
36 | ThrottleLife.com
Davidson The Chopp Shop, and Paul Tracy’s Black Label Baggers to name a few and within a minute’s distance you’ll find the team of TOCE Performance’s Daytona shop. This year Sportbikes Inc. publisher Allan Lane in conjunction with Polaris hosted a Custom Slingshot Showoff Slide thru at Brigit’s Custom Works. So if you want skip the stop and go action to get to Main street, your time will be well spent on the Beach side. No doubt one of the largest and most anticipated custom motorcycle shows takes place at Bruce Rossmeyer’s Destination Daytona hosted by the good folks over at American Bagger and Urban Bagger with contest ranging from baddest paint, best sound system and of course the big one, the Baddest Bagger contest.
The show pavilion was packed with a record breaking number of entrants representing some of the sickest and most creative customs rolling into Daytona. Of course many of the industry’s heavy weights were in attendance including Unknown Customs, Crazy Beaver Customs, Sin Worx, Back Yard Baggers, Da Performance Baggers, Kory Souza Originals, Low Key Customs, Curly’s Inc, and many more with the crew from Cartel Baggers taking stage bestowing gifts for the crowd’s enjoyment. Big Congrats to Tyler Foster of Sik Pipes for rolling out as the winner of this year’s Baddest Bagger contest. Although only a few blocks long making it one of the shortest strips during Daytona Bike Week, the Ave along Bethune-Cookman Boulevard still attracts thousands
on a daily and nightly basis rolling through on everything from drag bikes to Gold Wings, big wheel customs to stock and everything in between including the industry notables. You won’t find big named vendors or manufacturers galore lined up here. So what attracts so many to the soulful side of Daytona Bike Week? It could be the vendors with home cooked food that have some willing to endure that twomile-an-hour-so-everyone-seeyou traffic. It could be the zydeco, rhythm and blues or old school tunes that fill the street or it simply may be the Ave has a vibe unlike any other spot during bike week that derives and thrives from its heart and soul, the people. New to the Daytona custom bike show scene was the Kory Souza 1st Annual “No Class” Custom bike show. Other shows may have been bigger in terms of size or held in locations typically associated with bike shows, but they lacked a critical element found at the No Class show, a chilled, relaxed fun atmosphere within an unassuming garage with the same cool come-as-you-are vibe both inside and outside. As stated on the events promo page: No classes. No politics. Just a good time. To help live up to this, Kory and the team brought in experts from different industries and backgrounds for balanced unbiased judging with the show open to all bikes regardless of level of customization. I was even encouraged to bring out Throttle Life’s stealthy Blaque Betty custom R1 still Gorilla taped together from an earlier “incident” but didn’t want to lower the quality of the show. Turns out, it would’ve been accepted furthering living up to the No Class namesake. The show featured cash prizes, custom trophies, a liquor and beer

cash bar, food truck and live DJ which with all the award-winning baggers in the house taking turns showcasing their power to move the crowd, giving the DJ an easy night out. Although the show was promoted as No Class, the classy part of the show was the $20 donation for registration which went to Bikers Against Bullies USA for The Ride to Sturgis and Big Brother Big SistersSuncoast Chapter. Sure, the show may have included a blue plastic tarp as the part of the backdrop, but that just helped to prove the point you don’t need an elaborate background and scenery to make an event work. Kory and his team made the best of it and made it do what it do and it did what it did with great results. Big props to 3rd place winner Aaron David of Big Wheel Bagger, 2nd place winner After Hours Bikes, 1st place winner Woodlawn Baggers and Best of Show to Da Performance Baggers.

It was dreary rainy Saturday May morning in the DMV as the clouds cast a gray lull throughout streets. However, within Harley-Davidson of Washington, the vibe was anything but gloomy for the Bessie Stringfield All Female Ride, the DMV Pep Rally hosted by the Ladies of the ‘O’MENS MC Fort Washington Chapter by First Lady, the motivating Shorty Rock. The day consistent of music by the “Unforgettable Diva” on the mic and turntables, vendors, free food, guest speakers and a police escorted ride. Yes, a ride throughout the DMV even with the rain. Although safety was paramount, the ladies weren’t going to let a little rain get in their way of doing what they do. It was simply time to gear-up, mount up and go!
52 | ThrottleLife.com
But before they ride, the ladies gathered for a welcoming prayer by ‘O’MENS MC Baby Girl followed by a presentation on the background, history and purpose of this nationwide celebration by the rides’ dynamic founder Kurvez. Not only did Kurvez passionately provide knowledge and enlightenment on the inspiring Ms. Bessie Stringfield, she also graciously took time to acknowledge and thank her team in attendance including Fiesti of the infamous annual All Female ride that took place during the Atlantic Beach Bike Fest, Jus’Tis, and Silkee to name a few. Kurvez poetically ended the presentation with “There’s a little of Bessie in all of us.” which set off a wave of applause. Guest speakers included Peppa with Platinum Dreams MC who spoke
from first-hand experience on the importance of maintaining your bike with performing your own safety checks each and every time before you take to the road. Jus’Tis kept the audience’s attention with her expertise and knowledge of securing your weapon properly when traveling while Redi Red had the crowd captivated with her time and ultra-space saving compact travel tips with dropping some grandmotherly advice to stay ready so you don’t have to get ready. Taking to the stage in his usual cool fashion was Gerald of Gerald’s Auto Detail shop who spoke on the value of maintaining your bike mechanically as well as cosmetically. “A good detail job goes a long way to not only keep your bike clean, but more importantly to truly protect it from debris, bugs and the usual flying road hazards we face on the road.” he said
with sharing a costly example from a customer who unfortunately learned this lesson the hard way. But it was Ms. Wanda that had the ladies in tears with laughter and in awe as she shared her 40+ plus year of riding experience from her days being one of only a few women that rode to still riding today with a bad knee and all and plans to keep riding until she can’t ride anymore. Its’ no wonder with an attitude and outlook like this that “Wicked Wanda” earned the Bessie Stringfield Lifetime Achievement Award. If you haven’t done so, mark your calendar for the 4th Annual Bessie Stringfield ALL Female Ride finale in Killeen, Texas June 21st thru Sunday June 25th and watch and learn as the ladies show how it’s done.

There are actors in Hollywood known for their hard core street portrayals. For some, their on-screen image is just that, on-screen. Then there are those that not only play these roles, but live the life bringing an authenticity that only real world experience can provide. Such an actor is the legendary Mr. Emilio Rivera. Emilio may be widely known in the motorcycle community for his role in the FX Series’ Sons of Anarchy (SOA) as Marcus Alvarez, President of Mayans MC. However, his acting career goes well beyond this iconic role dating back more than two decades in the TV series Renegade and action thriller Con Air.
article & photos: Leon “LB” Brittain
Since then, he’s appeared in countless shows and movies as NYPD Blue, The Shield, Gang Related, Hand of God, SyFy’s zombie apocalyptic Z-Nation, Mercy for Angels, The Devil’s in the Details, and as Officer Francisco Cooper on Saint and Sinners to name a few. But don’t let his street-wise on-screen persona have you thinking there’s only one-side to this multi-dimensional actor. Take a look at his social media feed and you’ll see for yourself one of his most important priorities is his la familia. There is also sincere humanitarian side as shown in his support and direct participation in charities such as the Kingdom Coalition for Kids golf tournament, Bat 4 Hope celebrity softball game benefiting PADRES Contra El Cáncer improving the quality of life for
children with cancer and their families, Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles blood drive, the “LeftOut Kids and the annual Booz Fighters MC (LA chapter) Toy Run benefitting the Hillsides for the Children orphanage to name a few. Along with his charitable work, you might catch this legendary actor meeting, greeting and connecting with fans at any number of events or rides throughout the nation. One such stop was the Grand Opening of Old Dominion Harley-Davidson in Fredericksburg, Virginia where he and General Manager/Owner Ken Barner did some ground pounding on the twisty scenic back roads of Virginia on a couple of the dealership’s custom baggers, a fly azz Road King with that west coast flow and a show stopping Road Glide, both
rolling with MC Bagger rake kits, 26” PM wheels and Top Shop rears. Needless to say, when SOA ended its historic ride, it left a void for the legions of SOA fans wanting more. Well, rest assured Throttle Life Nation because if you haven’t heard, show creator Kurt Sutter has been busy working on an SOA spin off, Mayans MC with our man Emilio Rivera keeping Prez Alvarez in the mix. What makes this dynamic hustler of the industry so well suited for this role is not only his experience, but he is also a genuine real Rider as alluded to earlier and frequently pounding the streets with his one of his mean machines, a 2011 Road King better known as LaMonstra. In addition to the Mayans MC pilots,
brother Rivera is staying busy with currently working on a Christmas movie called, “El Camino Christmas” with Tim Allen, Vincent D’onofrio, Kurtwood Smith, Luke Grimes, and Jessica Alba. Also in the works is “Badsville” with Robert Knepper, “Loca” with Danay Garcia, Danny Trejo and Lou Diamond Phillips and “Don’t Worry He Won’t Get to Far on Foot” with Joaquin Phoenix, Jack Black and Jonah Hill all due out in 2017. As if that wasn’t enough, he’s returning to “Saints and Sinners” for their 3rd season and “Hand of God” with Ron Perlman and Dana Delaney is currently streaming on Amazon. If you have a chance meet this legend, be sure to do so and you’ll quickly discover he’s compassionate, inspiring and very much authenticate.

ATL PREMIERE ThrottleLife.com | 65
Once again Universal Studios, Allied Moxy and Automotive Rhythms joined forces to deliver an energized and star-studded premiere for THE FATE OF THE FURIOUS which hits theaters nationwide April 14th. This is the 8th installment of the blockbuster series and the first to exclude cast member Paul Walker. The red carpet showcase — hosted by Chris “Ludacris” Bridges and Tyrese Gibson — was held at the elegantly ornamented SCADshow performing arts theater in Midtown Atlanta and serves as home to TVfest and other SCAD Atlanta events. Automotive Rhythms turned the event into an art themed, luxury automotive exhibit as we highlighted several key players. AR positioned the 2017 Brilliant Blue Metallic Mercedes-AMG GT S on one spectrum of the red carpet where celebrities where escorted while the 2017 Lexus RC 350 sat on the opposite entrance for guests entering the building. Both sports cars lit up the scene since the GT S is the model of choice Ludacris drives in F8 and is a bit

special since it is handcrafted by racers. With 503 ponies under the hood this German beast hits 0 to 60 mph in about 3.7 blistering seconds. The Lexus RC 350 was painted live on location with F8 themes by Nationally celebrated Edward Joseph aka Ed The Artist. The RC 350 was wrapped and prepped for painting by Atlanta Custom Wraps. The crowd was amazed by these rides as well as the cadre of celebs, influencers and leaders on site such as Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed, Eudoxie Bridges, Keshia Knight Pulliam, Caleb McLaughlin, Big K.R.I.T, Gabrielle Union, Marquita Goings, Dawn Halfkenny, Kario Whitfield, Frank Ski, Rickey Gadson, Lance Gross, Big Tigger, Monyetta Shaw, Irv Gotti, Headkrack, Juwan Mass, Kendrick Cross, DJ Holiday, Ed Lover, Sheree Whitfield and many more. The theater was filled to capacity and the energy level was extremely high as everyone waited to see this hit. Kimatni Rawlins, CEO and Publisher of Automotive Rhythms, opened the
evening by welcoming invitees and awarding a lucky winner the grand prize which included a set of Michelin tires and F8 prize pack complete with a signature backpack, hat, shirt, air freshener and more. Kasim Reed addressed the crowd and expressed his appreciation for the amount of love and notoriety that the city of Atlanta has received from Hollywood. Next up was Ludacris and Tyrese who spoke on the diversity in the film, their brotherhood, thankfulness for the global support, the trials and tribulations endured regarding moving on without Walker and how Georgia’s capital has been an integral component in the process. The flick was laden with nonstop action from beginning to end and left fans encouraged that even without a few beloved characters the franchise will strongly live on. In partnership with Premium Fuel Magazine and Adrenaline Lifestyles, under the direction of Throttle Life’s Custom Bike Director Zem Wise we set the summer on fire with photo shoots ranging from custom sport bikes to baggers, to Slingshots and muscle cars. Of course, this would not have been possible without our summer time fly models Marie Starr, Queenie, Ms. Envius, and Kay Marie, Bri Bella and Tiffani J. Big thanks and respect to Down N’ Dirty MC for the location, Kinsey Kawasakis, Ed the Body Paint for lending his body paint talents, P-Boone, Big Poppa, X-Man and Clinton Cycles. These weren’t your typical shoots by any imagination. As a matter of fact, the ladies brought their creative talents with assisting in creating theme shoots from CosPlay to horror to lace and leather, and body paint, with smoke grenades, props and a snake added to the mix just to keep things interesting while enduring hot temperatures, outfit changes and rain altering location plans. Throughout it all however, the ladies were noting but proffessional and on-point keeping the shoots fun and tastefully sexy. Enjoy some of the highlights.

NGSHOT Over al Movement
Slingshot gatherings are taking place throughout the nation, with the east coast showcasing some of the wildest custom Slingshots around, so it’s only fitting for the Nation’s Capital (home of SS Takeover movement) to take this phenomenon to the next level with Coleman Powersports of Falls Church Virginia (one of the nation’s leading Polaris Slingshot dealers) as the host location and sponsor. The #SSTakeover, brainchild of entertainment pioneer and Slingshot owner James McRae aka Da Plug was created to bring enthusiasts of this new three-wheeled sensation together to network and join in the camaraderie, fun and appreciation for their love of Slingshots. There was a full weekend of action packed events setup for all the patrons with the Gaylord National Hotel at the National Harbor graciously severing as the host hotel the National Harbor. The weekend started with meet VIP welcoming party sponsored by Polaris at Coleman PowerSports with free cocktails & hors d’oeuvres while partying to the sounds of DJ Kelly B. But wait, there’s more. Alpha PowerSports&Slingmods offered on the spot upgrades and installations while Coleman PowerSports provided oil changes and alignments. On Saturday, the main event was held Coleman Powersports massive parking open parking area for a day full of fun events. On site was Alpha PowerSports, 92 | ThrottleLife.com

Proceeds raised from the raffle will benefit the March of Dimes to help fund lifesaving research and programs that work to end premature birth, birth defects and infant mortality. Once again the streets and beltway of the DMV bared witness to another instance of a massive group of more than 200 motorcyclists thundering through the streets on a rare warm Autumn day. You could think the unusual warm weather was the perfect reason and opportune time for these Riders to hit the streets one more time before ol’ man winter sets in. Not the case. This group of dedicated men and women were out to support of the annual Thanksgiving Goon Giveaway benefiting 20 families of Ward 8 in our Nation’s Capital. The ride kicked off with an uplifting and very honest prayer by Kingdom Knight’s President Hustle Man who noted how quick the media is to capture the negative of the motorcycle community, however, outreach efforts as this go unnoticed by mass media. Ruthless Riderz’ Klip followed up with an equally moving moment pointing out and recognizing no one club or person is bigger than another when we all come together to support our communities. The giveaway was made possible with the support of and special thanks to Giant Food (District Heights, MD) GM Rodney Harris, the 2 Wheel Life Radio crew along with all the organizations involved; Road Wolves Mother Chapter, Wild Bunch, Harleywood 114 | ThrottleLife.com 114 | ThrottleLife.com

Platinium Dreams was on site before 4am in the morning helping to package meals for Friends and Friends while Baltimore Black Tigers continued their annual support to the Bea Gaddy Foundation helping to feed others on Thanskgiving day. The Goon squad didn’t stop with Thanksgiving. They continued their spirit of good-will during the Christmas season along while Down-N-Dirty MC turned their club house into a virtual Santa’s workshop. Who evers says Goons don’t have heart have never witnessed how real Goons do.
