Welcome to our special “Make America United Again” magazine. With the 2020 presidential election quickly approaching, which is certain to bring more drama, controversy and division, this is our humble attempt to help UNITE our nation through our pictorial flashback at some of the events we had the pleasure to cover. So we dug through the archives to help remind us of when we were united before the toxic divisive political rhetoric. This is by no means an attempt to put on rose-colored glasses and dismiss or deny the hurt, anger, and distrust permeating throughout the country, because frankly, shyt is f*ked-up and will continue to get worse...if we let it. Defund the Police (a well-intended, but horrible slogan) became an unwilling target as it played directly into the hands of those using scare tactics to divide. Furthermore, the systemic problem goes beyond officers that don’t deserve the honor to wear a badge. The entire injustice system needs reform as evidenced (once again) by the atrocity of the Breonna Taylor killing whom we proudly feature on this special edition cover with artwork by Dennis Owusu-Ansah. Additionally, many in our Throttle Life Nation (including my family and friends) serve and protect with valor and integrity. The bullshit of fueling the flames of hate puts their lives in needless danger as well as those of us that protest in peace for change and basic fair equality. Lastly, Republican or Democrat, as proud patriots we must always put Country over Party. One undeniable fact we all bear witness to, regardless of what party was running the White House for the past few decades, our beloved nation has never been this divided in the last 30 years as it is under this current administration and ruthless GOP. Throttle Life Nation, lets work though our differences with respect and civility. Let’s Make America United Again.

Our powerful cover image comes to us courtesy of the talented social artist Dennis Owusu-Ansah. Dennis is a New York-based Ghanaian artist who isn’t afraid to tackle and bring attention to global social issues through his art. His direction in art was inspired after witnessing a friend being teased by a group of men for wearing kente cloth on the way to church. He took that incident as an opportunity to educate those who are not familiar with the immensely culturally rich history, diversity and traditions of the African community. Check out and support his work on IG and reach out for commission pieces from this dynamic artist. denny_ow

THUNDER ROADS

Our country is more divided than its been in decades. Media outlets and opinionated p

Receiving “news” from the same circle of sources is a detriment to our society preven perspectives to help enrich our lives rather than continue living within our own segreg and Throttle Life set out to accomplish. When Rhino and the Thunder Roads Mid-Atlantic team reached out to a partner a few years back, we didn’t hesitate to join. We all understood the value and importance of different perspectives, cultures, and opinions. As we move forward in this politically and racially charged environment, let’s not put party over country, let’s keep our circles open, let’s call out wrongs on both sides of the aisle, let’s not let agendadriven outlets and social media personalities divide us. Let’s Make America #United Again. Please enjoy some past articles from our combined efforts to bridge and unite. “I have decided to stick with love. Breonna The killing of Breonna Taylor is tragic. The lack of accountability and deliberate cover up is heart-breaking. It once again shows the lack of equality for those of us in the middle and lower ends of our injustice system. There are those in my circle that agree with the outcome of the Grand Jury in this case. They believe when reviewing the “facts” no laws were broken by the officers. Although I couldn’t disagree more, we still manage to value and respect our different opinions and each other...without hate. In the early 1900’s it was against the law for women to vote. They protested, marched, and were thrown in jail for that basic right. During World War II American born Japanese citizens were forced into internment camps, basically prison yards. It was once against the law for blacks to sit in the front of a bus. They were beaten, hung, jailed and had to protest and march for human civil rights. All of these issues were considered “progressive” for the times. Imagine the basic right to vote, protections as an American-born citizen and human civil rights were all too progressive. To those that agree with the outcome in this case, let’s not forget the laws that discriminated against women, African-Americans, Native-Americans, and Japanese-born citizens. Simply look at how absurb it was for those that fought against the aforementioned “progressive” ideals. It’s time to reform our justice system to actually live up to “and justice for all”. We shouldn’t have to wait generations to change the blatant injustices of today as in the heartbreaking case of beautiful Breonna Taylor by those that want our country to remain rooted in its discriminatory past. As evidenced in these pages, we are bigger and better than the hate and intentional fear-baiting division our country is facing. When history looks back on this period in time, what ideals will you be remembered for? — LaVelle “Duck” Lowe ThrottleLife.com | 13

The March of Dimes is near and dear to my heart for a very special reason thanks to a precious little angel, my daughter Nia. Nia’s birthdate was to occur on my birthdate, August 18th. However, she and God had other plans. The morning of May 27th started like any other morning with my wife and I getting our two sons ready for school. I leave the house at 8am to drop the boys off at school. By 9:30 my wife calls in a panic that something is going horribly wrong with the pregnancy. She is rushed to the hospital. By this point she and my daughter lives are in grave danger due to unexpected complications. By God’s grace, both survive. Its hard to remember everything that happened within that whirlwind of emotions and events, but I will always remember and be grateful to the March of Dimes for being there, so I’m honored to continue the ongoing support. Thank you Jennifer Abell and Sandra Sanna-Buckles again for the opportunity to Chair the Maryland-National Capital Area Chapter 12th Annual Bikers for Babies Ride.

The energy of first annual Kory Souza Originals’ ‘No-Class’ Bike Show in 2017 was without a doubt electrifying. What makes this show unlike others is there are no politics involved, the judges are from different walks of the industry and all bikes are welcomed to compete without the worry of being out of place – they even invited my gorilla-taped-up custom R1 to be in. As stated in their promos: No classes. No politics. Just a good time. That being said, this show is not to be dismissed as it attracts some of the baddest bikes created from pro builders and painters as well as upand-coming talent. But beyond the bikes, the show has a real welcoming unpretentious atmosphere that permeated throughout the show both inside with the blue-tarp backdrop and outside with the food trucks. No fancy show facility. No huge marketing campaign and no nonsense. Just folks enjoying good food, drinks and camaraderie along with a few impromptu audio battles just for fun of it and bragging rights. Thanks again KOS for the unexpected, but much appreciated shout out and recognition during the inaugural show! 22 | ThrottleLife.com

ThrottleLife.com | 27

Going nine years strong, the Joint Base Andrews Motorcycle Safety Program Motorcycle Safety Day (MSD) continues its mission of promoting and supporting motorcycle safety and achieving lifesaving success. According to 11th Wing Safety Office Occupational Safety and Health Technician, a 70% decrease in motorcycle fatalities among base riders has taken place since the first MSD in 2011. “The reason we have the MSD is to prevent motorcycle safety briefings from becoming uninteresting,” said Master Sgt. Freddie Mims, one of the MSD event coordinators. “We bring in live demos and on-hand skills tests so attendees can have fun while learning. We want participants to gain motorcycle safety knowledge for riders and non-riders by learning riding techniques and always being aware when on the road” Master Sgt. Mims continued. The day consists of skill demonstrations by professional motorcycle racers and riders, and local Police Departments showcasing their skills from agility to maneuverability, skill challenges for all attendees to test clutch and throttle control, accelerating and braking, all while having good ol’ fun! We look forward to continuing our support! 28 | ThrottleLife.com

I’ve seen Kawasaki Shut Down New York City’s Times Square, was in Milwaukee for HD’s 105th, 110th and 115th anniversaries, attended the launch of the iconic 2008 Hayabusa, helped launch “Straight Out of Compton” premiere with a nasty low-rider show and covered events from Easy Riders to the National Bikers Roundup. I don’t say this to boast, but to put into perspective one of thee most impressive efforts and events I’ve seen in my 20+ years in the industry – The Team Money Cycles’ Sound Off Series (SOS) 2018 Myrtle Beach Bike Week Spring Rally. To say the 2018 Spring Rally was a wash-out would be an understatement with torrential rains throughout and during the peak of the event. This wasn’t welcomed news to anyone and no way to introduce Team Money Cycles’ SOS to the Spring Rally. Originally scheduled to take place on the scenic paved outdoor patio of Old Chicago Pizza and Taproom, the Team could easily have chalked this up as a lost which would’ve been disappointing, but understandable considering the heavy rains that shut down other Spring Rally main-stay events. Not letting the rain damper the spirit, the Team jumped into action and did the unthinkable. Within 24 hours they

34 | ThrottleLife.com

locked down a new location for the show big enough to accommodate all trailers, bikes and attendees. And if that wasn’t impressive enough, the staff and Team of volunteers transformed a warehouse into an underground 2-wheel fight club scene that easily rivaled a Hollywood grudge set. By 2:30 that afternoon bikes were being registered and the show was on! Kicking off the show, Kody with Voodoo Bikeworks took a minute to recognize and thank all of those involved to help make the unimaginable happen. Throughout the show Team Money Cycles’ CEO Rickie Will and Backyard Baggers Owner Joey Hensley did their thing facilitating and engaging putting on a top-notch show. Participants and spectators from all walks of life side by side enjoying the family friendly and always entertaining show and whenever tunes were played that didn’t meet that familyfriendly criteria, judges were quick to diplomatically remind all of the rules. Here are just a few pix from this herculean effort done out of commitment and dedication for the Sound Off Series’ participants and audience. MUCH Respect and Continued Success.

Allow us to share this brief insight and recap from one of the biggest celebrations that attracts riders from around the globe, Harley-Davidson’s (H-D) Anniversary celebration – a celebration so big it only happens every 5 years. Festivities take place throughout Milwaukee from factory tours, the Harley-Davidson Museum, the House of Harley, Harley of Milwaukee, the crazy-fun Brady Street Party and of course the main party of Summer Fest with performances by the likes of Kid Rock, Toby Keith, Common, Lube Fiasco, Moderatto and many more. Remaining true to their outreach efforts, H-D has celebrated during and beyond their anniversaries with the Black Biker Jam, Harlistas, Operation Personal Freedom, and their Pink Label from Karen Davidson Creative Director of General Merchandise in support of those whose lives were changed by breast cancer directly and indirectly. Maybe, just maybe this is partly why H-D has such a loyal cult like following other brands strive for. Although the company has under gone some changes in the last few years from expanding to attract new younger riders to their recent shift to trimming down under current CEO Jochen Zeitz refocusing their line and brand efforts, we sincerely hope this mainstay continues with reflecting their broad dedicated market. Looking forward to the 120th! 56 | ThrottleLife.com

Downtown Raleigh N.C. got a taste of the west coast low-rider life October 2019 as some of the most influential personalities, artist, and builders in the low rider movement rolled in for a unique display of Chicano/Chicana influenced low rider art and soul at the Contemporary Art Museum (CAM). This electrifying exhibit celebrated the rich culture and art of our Chicano and Chicana brothers and sisters with

Viva Viclas: The Art of the LowRider Motorcycle. Curated by legendary Denise Sandoval, PhD, professor of Chicano/Chicana Studies at California State University Northridge who not only embodies a wealth of knowledge and experience in this area, but also lives the life. The artists included industry icons and trailblazers OG Able, Adriana Avila, Eren Cannata, Mister Cartoon with Fire and Desire, Yely Diaz with Viclera, Justin Favela, Elrod, El Moises with Chicanindio and super cool Estevan Oriol (who it was an honor to meet this legend) with works of Hollywood celebrities and personalities Emilio Rivera and Danny Trejo. Showing off the 2 wheel works of art are renowned influential builders La Vida Customs along with the famed Firmosa all on display representing Cali, Texas and New Mexico. 66 | ThrottleLife.com

Also paying homage to the Viclas style with El Chapo built by the award winning Da Performance Baggers painted by the talented Kyle Morley of Xecution Style and Pretty in Pink sitting low and sexy by Chris Edler also painted by Xecution Style. Much respect to Gab Smith, CAM Executive Director in bringing the first exhibit on the East Coast to spotlight this colorful and diverse tradition of low rider culture focusing on the art of the low rider motorcycle aka la Viclas and to Tobacco Road Harley Davidson for playing a valuable role in supporting the exhibit. It was well worth the 5 hour turn-and-burn from DC to experience this vibrant exhibit!

The Slingshot Takeover, the vision of Jimmy “Da Plug” has been going and growing strong since 2016. The SSTakeover has engaged and entertained the Slingshot crowd from the DMV to Philly to Atlanta Motorspeedway, Miami, New Jersey and more. For 2019, the Slingshot Takeover rolled DEEP with some of the best Slingshot creations representing the north, south and mid-west. The main event went down at Bagger Boyz in Fort Washington, MD with guest judges Mr. Team Money Cycles’ Rickie Will along with the keen ear of Tyrone Cox aka Mr. T-Funk. As always Jimmy brought his entertaining personality to the mic for laughs and his in-your-face trash talk, but all in the name of fun to entertain the crowd. After the competition, it was time for the iconic trip to DC with a convoy of custom Slingshots for some monumental moments with tourist and Washingtonian’s enjoying the show with cameras flashing against the backdrop of the most recognized monuments in the country. All of this is made possible without corporate sponsorships, just a tireless grind thats built a strong SSTakeover brand recognition. The ladies of Divaz Inc. Productions are no strangers to the automotive and motorcycle scene as they host many events throughout the year. 2019, however, marked big milestone with their 15th Annual! The show was full of stellar cars whether it be custom, classic, or luxurious foreign rides. And let’s not forget about the custom motorcycles and lifted trucks. Genos Ball Park was the scene for the car and bike show, as well as a concert series. The live music performances featured artists from R&B, go-go, and hip-hop. Car show categories included Best Custom, Best Street Rod, Best Sport Bike, Best Truck, Best of Show, People’s Choice, Promoters Choice and more. Adrenaline Lifestyles had

the pleasure of participating as a product sponsor providing car care products from business partners over at Meguiar’s this year sponsoring car cleaning kits and swag bag items for patrons and show winners. Attending a Divaz Inc. event, is similar to a family reunion since their crowd is loyal and the staff is welcoming. A formula like this is on par with how Adrenaline Lifestyles operates. In 2012 Kawasaki held a press launch like no other to launch their 2013 Ninja 300 and Ninja 636 by taking over and shutting down the world-famous New York City Times Square . This was more than just a launch of two bikes. It was an event. A product launch with a few bells and whistles within Times Square may have sufficed to some, but not Kawasaki USA. Not only did they engage the media, but they also brilliantly entertained attendees with a fashion and stunt show by Team No Limit’s Jason Britton and Eric Hoenshell with models rocking gear from ICON Apparel. Kawasaki’s own drag race World Champion Rickey Gadson showed out with a few start line techniques along with FIM World Supercross Champion and AMA Motocross Champion Ryan Villopoto and World Superbike racer Tom Sykes in the mix. Keeping the crowd hyped was Mr. Energy, Sportbikes Inc.’s Publisher Allan Lane along with industry pioneer custom builder Nick Anglada of Anglada Originals, in conjunction with DUB Magazine’s President and Co-Founder Myles Kovacs to unveil and feature the first custom Ninja 636.
