Noodle’s Tips For The Road OK…I got in trouble again the other day! I was out for a stroll and saw this crazy looking dude with a towel on his head. Well naturally I thought he might be suspicious so I started barking like crazy. This old guy came over and patted me on the head and said, “good dog, a lot of those towel heads are terrorists”. The dude with the towel got really angry and started screaming at the old guy. A ruckus started and I took off. A nice old lady explained to me that the term “towel head” is politically incorrect and we all need to be more sensitive in our choice of words. I was told that the Islamic terrorists who hate our guts and want to kill us do not like to be called towel heads. Since they don’t actually wear towels on their heads and it is in fact a little sheet…I am going to call them “little sheet heads” from now on, so I can be more sensitive like the old lady told me. I suggest you all do the same!

Cory TexTer Hey everyone, It feels like its been a while since I wrote a column and things are going to start getting crazy here so I buckled down and thought some of you would want to know how our 2010 Daytona went for us. I have been to almost every type of rally growing up before & during I started racing and Daytona is always my favorite. Leaving the cold weather to come down to the south in the sun and ride motorcycles is just awesome. We left Willow Street & headed down to a good friend of ours who owns a track in South Carolina called Mid-Carolina Speedway. I have been riding there before Daytona and various times in between for many years now. The track has turned into one of my favorites and it is a good sandy, cushion track. We tested there for two days. I have a 2009 RM-Z 450 under my tent this year with the big ol’ #65 on it, so I really wanted to get some laps on it before I headed to Daytona incase I needed to use it as my back-up bike. After Daytona, we headed to Savannah, GA for a test there. This would be where our first race would be so it was good to try out the track. I have raced in Savannah for a few years already and its one of the fastest half-miles I have ever rode. One of my favorite half miles for sure. Testing went good and I was ready to race! There is a new series out this year that is replacing the old AMA Hot Shoe Series and its called the AMA All-Star Series. Pretty much the same deal, with alot of the same tracks. Mostly everyone showed up in Savannah, so I knew it would be tough but instead of worrying about other riders like I have in the past, I worried about myself and the track. I won my first ever heat race in my career in the 450 expert class and I set 2nd fast time for the main event. I knew I had even more left in the tanks so I was fired up for the main event. I also came through winning my semi on the 750 to be set in both main events. I went from inside pole in the 450 main event to last place going into turn one, getting one of the worst holeshots of my life. I picked guys off left and right, but only could manage an 8th, which usually would be an OK day, but I knew we had so much more tonight and hopefully all year. I also came from last place in the 750, to 10th. My bikes ran and handled real good, so that was a good confidence builder. After Savannah, we raced in Volusia, FL for Round 2 & 3 of the all-star series. Volusia is one of my least favorite tracks and I never really did well here, but I am feeling pretty good about every track this season. The first day in Volusia, the track was the worst I have ever seen it. Alot of veterans like Carr & Coolbeth decided not to even race. I couldn’t get myself amped up like I needed to and I regret not staying 100% even though the track was junk and I missed the main events by very very slim margins. I wasn’t sure if I wanted to race the next day, because the track wasn’t any good, but it is the same track for everyone and I was determined to do better then the previous day. On day two, I ended up not only making both main events, but coming from outside the top 5 on the 450, to getting my 2nd ever professional podium with a 2nd place finish. I finished a close 6th on the 750, gaining every lap on the riders ahead of me. Daytona Short Track would be round 1 & 2 of the GNC series and the most important races of the week. As I write this almost 2 weeks later, I am still bitter about how these races turned out. I ended up missing my first ever GNC program the first day since my very first expert race in 2007 by a slim
margin of .1 of a second. The track was pretty crummy and I just didn’t ride as hard as I could. Day 2 didn’t start out much better. I was around 60th after the first round and I just couldn’t believe what was happening to me. We decided to switch to my suzuki for the last session. Not only have I never raced the bike before, but we still had half-mile gearing on and a worn out tire from Volusia! I didn’t care. I was so fired up, I jumped out and dropped half a second off my lap times to put me on the 3rd row in my heat race. the suzuki started to feel better and better each time out as I came from 17th or so in my heat up to 9th. They only take 4 to the main, so I was headed to the semi. I knew it would be tough starting on the 3rd row, but by half-way I was up to 4th already, right on the back of #33’s rear tire with the leaders right ahead of him. A red flag came out and we would have a stagger start. On the stagger start, I got a bad draw going into turn one and lost some spots that I would not be able to make back up in 2 laps and I missed the main by 2 tenths of a second or so. It was very disappointing but as I looked at it, I know I made the biggest improvement on the day by anyone coming from 60th fastest in the first round to just missing the 18 rider main. I am fired up about leaving Daytona with a goose egg in the GNC point standings. I am ready for the rest of the season to get here as soon as possible so I can put my Lancaster HD/Herr’s/Invisible Glass/ Monster Energy bike up front. Until the next column, check out my website for updates, CoryTexter.com and also follow me on twitter @ Twitter.com/CoryTexter.

ABATE Update
The Pennsylvania legislature has been very quiet lately as far as title 75 bills go. This is due to the fact that every title 75 bill is being threatened with amendments dealing with tolling I-80. Therefore transportation bills (title 75) are not moving. On a positive note, PennDot, the Motorcycle Safety Program, and ABATE of PA came together with a new “Watch for Motorcycles” yard sign. Call your local ABATE chapter to get a sign for your yard, first come, first served. The “Look Twice… Save a LIFE”, “Watch for Motorcy-
cles”, along with the Motorcycle Safety Program seem to be helping in reducing the number of motorcycle fatalities in Pennsylvania. PA motorcycle fatalities have dropped from 236 in 2008 to 204 in 2009. That is a 14% reduction. The Motorcyclist’s Rights Rally will be held on May 24, 2010 at the Capitol in Harrisburg, at 12:00 noon. We need a good turnout for this event, please join us. Try it.....it will become one of your faves too...... especially for Pot-Luck Socials. Butter spray a 9x13 glass baking dish. Spread Cream Cheese liberally over (6) pieces of your white bread squares (minus crusts), lay them down flat in baking dish. Take your razor-thin deli ham and just make an even layer of it all over bread slices and pat down. Sprinkle your cheese all over top evenly. Then, cut your bananas all over the top of your ham, then the remainder (6) pieces of de-crusted white bread, spread w/ the cream cheese, lay that down on top of bananas, press down again. Next, in a separate bowl, mix up your whole milk, heavy cream, eggs, salt & pepper to taste & nutmeg. Pour this down all over and around sides of casserole. Now, put your potato chips in a large plastic bag and leave open just a bit at top for air and just smoosh them up in bag and then spread evenly all over top, and then crumble up bacon and distribute evenly all over top of chips. Bake in a 350 pre-heated oven for 45 minutes. Let cool and then cut & serve in squares. This will become one of your “go-to” comfort dishes that you’ll pass down thru time. Bikers for Stephanie I want to tell you about a amazing young lady named Stephanie Jallen. Stephanie was born with Congenital Hemidysplasia with Ichthyosis and Limb Defects. C.H.I.L.D Syndrome. A very rare disease that only affects females. As a result, she has only full right arm and right leg, but she will not let that stop her from doing the things she wants to do. “It’s not Can or Can’t, it’s Do or Don’t”, these are the words she lives by. Her dream is to be a downhill ski racer on the U.S. Paralympic Ski Team in Russia in 2014. That would seem enough for any teenager, but she takes on much more than that. Steph had the honor of being introduced by Senator Ray Musto to the PA State Senate where she spoke about her skiing and determination with amputees Soldiers of Iraq and Afghanistan . Not a dry eye in the house. Recently, Stephanie received a spirit award from The Friends of the Forgotten Northeast Wing for all she has done inspiring many of our injured Veterans with whom she trains and skis with in Colorado. Stephanie Jallen and Friends are often involved in planning other benefits for injured bikers or just lending a hand at other rides through out NEPA. I first met Stephanie in August of 2007 when she came to our A.B.A.T.E. chapter needing assistance with her first Motorcycle Run/ Block Party. Her attitude towards life was inspiring. She stole my heart, being that she is the same age and goes to the same school as my son. With lots of help from friends and many other clubs, we put together the best and safest ride we could in just 3 weeks. Almost 300 bikes enjoyed the 55 mile Sheriff escorted ride threw NEPA. That was 3 runs ago. With great bands, food, beverages, raffles and bike games, there is something for everyone. This has turned into a great community event where everyone is turning out to show Stephanie their support. Last year was the first for a dunking booth. Steph insisting on taking her turn on the hot seat along with some of the main planners of her event. Some how yours truly escaped without having to take his turn. So come ride with Steph at her Fourth Annual Motorcycle Run/ Block Party on July 11, 2010. Please come out and help this young inspiring lady reach her goal. Anyone can learn more about Stephanie Jallen and her dreams by going to www.stephaniejallen.org. Fliers for the run will be following shortly. Dave Corby Ride Captain Stephanie Jallen Motorcycle Run

Count your Blessings I’m not sure how many of you would remember the old church song, “Count your blessings, name them one by one.” I can remember my mother singing that song and I never really thought about the meaning behind it until a business colleague of mine was diagnosed with ALS; the dreaded Lou Garrets Disease. Diagnosed just a few short months ago her family has seen her deteriorate from a vibrant lady who enjoyed just about everything in life; to now where she is barely able to communicate simple requests to her family. I recently read her online blog and was blown away as she daily reflected on the Lord’s blessings in her life. I can see that she is drawing from a well of strength she has found in the Lord that I admittedly know very little about. The old song says, “When you are discouraged thinking all is lost, count your many blessings, name them one by one …. It will surprise you what the Lord has done.” One of life’s hardest lessons to learn is that a complaining attitude does nothing but dig an even deeper pit of despair in our lives. While at the same time we should be learning that to “count our blessings” is like building a ladder of freedom in spite of our circumstances. Let us all admit, so much of what we think is so important and so “bad”, is nothing compared to what so many battle with every day. One of the great hallmarks of the motorcycling community is that we get to do the thing we love, ride, and participate in making a difference in the lives of others less fortunate. I think about the MDA kids and the many others that motorcycle groups all over the country are striving to help. My prayer is that the Lord will help us all to express our thankfulness by being a part of making these lives’ better. We have so much to be thankful for!

News Bytes BIKERS SUPPORT BROWN IN HISTORIC SENATE VICTORY Scott Brown captured the national spotlight in his bid to replace the late Senator Ted Kennedy of Massachusetts, and he is a modern American success story, rising from relative obscurity to be the first Republican in decades elected to the U.S. Senate in the most liberal Democratic state in the country. Paul Cote of the Massachusetts Motorcycle Association joined newly-elected Senator Scott Brown at his victory celebration at the Park Plaza Hotel in Boston following his shocking election upset. The MMA worked with Sen. Brown’s campaign in gratitude for his support of motorcyclists’ legislation over the many years he has served in the state legislature. “Since last September, when the Massachusetts Motorcycle Political Action Committee (MMPAC) supporters started gathering signatures to get Scott Brown on the ticket for the US Senate Special Election, we have knocked on doors, stood outside grocery stores and even ‘hung out at the landfills’ to get Scott elected,” said Rick Gleason of MMPAC. Not only is Brown a biker-friendly politician, but he rides a Victory motorcycle! S.C. SUPREME COURT HEARS MYRTLE BEACH HELMET LAWSUITS South Carolina’s highest court heard oral arguments Wednesday, February 3 over whether a city can require motorcycle riders to wear helmets, despite the lack of a state law requiring the practice. State law doesn’t require riders 21 and older to wear helmets, but in an effort to get rid of two bike rallies held there each year, the Myrtle Beach city council voted unanimously in 2008 to pass 15 ordinances intended to dissuade bikers from coming to town, including the controversial mandatory helmet law for motorcycle riders and passengers of all ages. Justices peppered an attorney for the city with questions over what they seemed to view as the intent of the ordinance -- not to make Myrtle Beach’s roads safer for bikers, as had been argued, but to drive the bike rallies away from the Grand Strand. Representing his brother Bart, who leads a pro-bike rally group of business-owners and is challenging a ticket he received for not wearing a helmet, State Representative Thad Viers argued to the five justices that a state law governing traffic ordinances spells out what local governments are allowed to do regarding traffic laws. Viers filed more than 30 pages of briefs containing multiple sections supporting his various legal arguments against the city helmet ordinance. But Virginia-based A.I.M. Attorney (Aid to Injured Motorcyclists)Tom McGrath, who argued before the court representing 49 helmet law protesters who were ticketed, filed a much shorter brief, saying, among other things, that most of the arguments don’t matter because the city’s ordinance is at odds with state law, and for that reason alone it should be tossed out. “The gist of the city’s arguments is that it has
the right to do whatever it wants to do as long as it declares something to be a public nuisance and decides to abate it,” McGrath’s brief begins. “...If the ordinances conflict with state law, the ordinances are void. If the ordinances are void, their underlying merits are irrelevant.” Now it remains up to the State Supreme Court to decide the issues, and it may take months to render a ruling. McGrath has his hopes up; “Based on the questions the Justices asked the attorney for the City it seems the Court likely will render a favorable opinion for freedom. Hopefully, we won’t be disappointed.” MOTORCYCLE CLUB WILL SEND PATCH INTO SPACE The South Houston chapter of the Los Carnales / La Familia law enforcement motorcycle organization has been given the opportunity to send items into space on the Space Shuttle Mission STS-134 on July 29th this year. It will be the first motorcycle club represented in space. The club has developed a special patch for the occasion. It has Los Carnales / La Familia Nation with both the state of Texas and California on it. INDUSTRY REPORTS BAD YEAR FOR CYCLE SALES 2009 was a bad year for bikes, with the Motorcycle Industry Council reporting the lowest sales in a decade. The MIC noted a 40.8% drop in sales from the 2008 season, with roughly 520,502 bikes sold in 2009 compared to 880,000 that were sold in 2008. The MIC reports monthly sales of most major motorcycle manufacturers, including: BMW, Harley-Davidson, Buell, Honda, Kawasaki, KTM, Triumph, Yamaha, Suzuki, Victory, and the Piaggio Group. The MIC also creates estimates on all non-reporting manufacturers. With non-reporting sales included, the total sales for 2008 was 1.1 million according to the MIC, and though last year’s total hasn’t been tabulated yet, it is expected that 2009 will break a six-year streak of sales above the 1 million mark. The biggest drop in sales occurred in the scooter category. Scooters boomed in 2008 as gas prices reached record highs. As the economy begins to stabilize again, the MIC predicts that motorcycle sales will begin to increase. TENNESSEE “LEMON LAW” MAY SOON INCLUDE MOTORCYCLES Tennessee’s “Lemon Law” may soon be extended to include motorcycles, if the legislature takes action on a measure sponsored by Representative Vince Dean, of East Ridge. Dean says motorcycle buyers should have the same rights as people buying cars and trucks that don’t perform properly. He says any mechanical and structural problems can be more dangerous for motorcycle riders. The measure moved forward in a House Committee in early February, and a companion bill is awaiting consideration in the Senate Transportation Committee.

News Bytes WASHINGTON BILL ADDRESSES BIKER PROFILING In a monumental and historical vote, the Washington State House of Representatives passed HB2511 - a bill addressing “Motorcycle Profiling” - by a margin of 96 to 2. This landslide vote provides an indication that legislators are actually getting the idea that profiling is real and needs legislative relief, while the lack of opposition was seen as a silent show of support from Law Enforcement. During the legislative process, “It was remarkable to hear the legislators mention the organized and well presented information from the motorcycle community,” reports Donnie “Mr. Breeze” Landsman, Legislative Affairs Officer for ABATE of Washington. “Motorcyclists aren’t looking for special rights,” Landsman said. “We want the same rights that are afforded to every other section of the population as American citizens and as citizens of Washington State. We aren’t being given that.” The group found a champion in Rep. Steve Kirby (D-Tacoma) who introduced a bill that would force local law enforcement agencies to adopt a written policy designed to condemn and prevent the profiling of motorcyclists and to institute training to address the issue. It’s illegal to profile minorities, it should be illegal to profile motorcycle riders, the bikers said. The Washington State Patrol uses a training brochure called “Basic Biker 101” that starts with the statement “Bikers are dangerous” and gives instructions on how to gather information about them during traffic stops, according to David Devereaux of the Outsiders Motorcycle Club. To further substantiate their claims of harassment, Devereaux said that when bikers showed up en masse last year their annual “Black Thursday” lobbying day to find sponsors for the anti-profiling bill, state troopers surreptitiously took down all their license plate numbers. Next, the bill goes over to the Senate for consideration and will be assigned to a hearing committee, most likely Judiciary. “This has been a very good year for ABATE of Washington and the US Defenders of Washington,” said Landsman. “We have worked together to make this happen, and are truly on the same page.” OREGON RIDERS CONVERGE ON CAPITOL Motorcycle club members, independent riders and even non-riders alike came together in solidarity in Portland to protect rights specific to bikers. The first “call to action” by the US Defenders motorcycle group brought out over 70 bikes to the Oregon State Capitol recently, making a positive statement of unity between clubs and independent riders. Quiet Mike, the Information Officer for US Defenders said he was pleased with the show of bikes, “It was an excellent turnout, the most motorcyclists we’ve had here for a long time.” US Defenders is a movement formed from within motorcycle clubs from individual states to implement and support motorcycle rights. The grass roots organization is supported through the Confederations of Clubs across the
country, and is composed of state “citizen biker manpower” from Motorcycle Clubs and Coalition of Independent Riders (C.O.I.R) representatives. Quiet Mike, who also serves as Vice-Chairman for the Oregon Confederation of Clubs said this was a well-planned event. “We set up in the capitol so people could come and meet with their state representative or state senator. Several people set up appointments in advance, and they were able to express their concerns about how bikers’ rights are being affected.” Many people were there to discuss helmet laws, others for civil rights where profiling motorcycle club members is concerned, and some brought up that motorcyclist fatalities caused by car drivers should carry more serious charges than just a traffic fine. ADULTS IN KANSAS COULD BE FINED FOR KIDS RIDING WITHOUT HELMETS Adults could soon be fined in Kansas for allowing minors to go without wearing helmets while driving or riding a motorcycle. It is already illegal in Kansas for anyone under 18 to operate a motorcycle without wearing a helmet, but currently it is the youngster who gets a ticket. Under provisions of the new Senate bill, it would become illegal for owners of a motorcycle or motorized bicycle to permit a person under 18 to drive or ride on their vehicle without wearing a helmet, so the adult would receive a citation too. Use of motorcycle helmets has been on the rise nationally, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), which reported that 67% of motorcyclists wore a helmet in 2009, compared to just 48% in 2005. Happy 100Th Anniversary To The Boy Scouts Of America Wow! Never thought I’d be here to say this. Not that I’m 100 years old, but I never imagined myself being involved in Scouting. Let me explain: One day I came home from work and laying on top of the kitchen counter was a registration form to join Cub Scouts. Something my son must have pulled out of his school book bag in the morning and put there before going to school. I just let it lay there and nobody, including my son , ever mentioned anything about it. So as time passed and the form worked it’s way to the bottom of a pile of papers, eventually it was thrown away. I would have never said no to my son about joining Cub Scouts, but it just wasn’t something I was going to push. I was in Cub Scouts, and honestly didn’t care for it. May have been my personality as a child, but it just wasn’t for me. So I never even thought about joining the Boy Scouts. Then one day the inevitable happened. I was home from work, it was a beautiful Spring day, so I decided to wash the motorcycle. I was washing the motorcycle in the drive way and heard the school bus engine winding down as it made it’s way down the road to our driveway. With the screeching sound of the brakes the bus came to a stop. The door opened, the sound of kids yelling filled the air, and out jumped my son, book bag strapped to him, he came running up the driveway with a piece of paper in one hand. I heard him calling to me, “Dad! Dad! You have to call this number! A friend of mine I sit with at school is in Cub Scouts and I want to join! He said they meet tonight, so you have to call now!” Well, as I said earlier, I would never say no to my son about joining the Cub
Scouts if it is something he wants to do. But did you ever try to politely reason with your kids and talk them out of something? Yeah, me to. It didn’t work. Before I knew it, I was on the phone calling this number on the piece of torn paper my son had given me. That night I went to my first Pack Meeting and registered my son (and yes, myself), with the Cub Scouts. As the years have passed and my son is now moving into a Troop and joining the Boy Scouts of America, I still remember the beginning of this journey as if it happened yesterday. Not a day goes by that I regret making that phone call and allowing my son to join the Cub Scouts. I have read all the statistics in the Scouting Magazines and Books, and listened to the speeches given at meetings about how great Scouting is and why your son should join the Boy Scouts of America. I’ve also over the years, heard the reasons for kids and parents not to join Scouts, or reasons for dropping out. I understand that kids are involved in school extracurricular activities such as; sports, band, chorus, clubs…. Then you have activities outside of school including; sports, church, friends… I have two kids of my own! Been there, done that! My son, who is involved in Scouting, plays baseball, basketball, wrestles, is in the school band, church chorus and does puppets with the church youth group. I know! It’s a lot! But it all works well together. One doesn’t have to be in place of the other. So here are my statistics: There are no graph charts or percentage pies, just the bottom line. Scouting does build confidence, self esteem, provides the boys with life experiences they may not get anywhere else. It also helps them in their social development and gives them a sampling of some of the career choices available to them as an adult. Possibly Thunder Roads Magazine 25
helping them make a career choice for the future. It also teaches them the importance of being involved in their community and giving. But it does not have to take place of, or overpower sports, church or any other activities or interests the boys may have. On the flip side, these activities don’t have to override Scouting. They all work well together, and I believe in the end, your son will benefit from both scouting and the other activities he is involved in. This is not out of a book. This is what I have observed in the past 3 years while my son has been involved in Scouting. Looking forward to meeting you and your son sometime in the next 100 years. Hopefully not that long. A father walks into a restaurant with his young son. He gives the young boy 3 nickels to play with to keep him occupied. Suddenly, the boy starts choking, going blue in the face. The father realizes the boy has swallowed the nickels and starts slapping him on the back. The boy coughs up 2 of the nickels, but keeps choking. Looking at his son, the father is panicking, shouting for help. A well dressed, attractive, and serious looking woman, in a blue business suit is sitting at a coffee bar reading a newspaper and sipping a cup of coffee. At the sound of the commotion, she looks up, puts her coffee cup down, neatly folds the newspaper and places it on the counter, gets up from her seat and makes her way, unhurried, across the restaurant. Reaching the boy, the woman carefully drops his pants; takes hold of the boy’s testicles and starts to squeeze and twist, gently at first and then ever so firmly.. After a few seconds the boy convulses violently and coughs up the last nickel, which the woman deftly catches in her free hand. Releasing the boy’s testicles, the woman hands the nickel to the father and walks back to her seat at the coffee bar without saying a word. As soon as he is sure that his son has suffered no ill effects, the father rushes over to the woman and starts thanking her saying, “I’ve never seen anybody do anything like that before, it was fantastic. Are you a doctor? “ ‘No,’ the woman replied. I’m with the I.R.S.

I’m not sure the IRS finds that believable.’ I’m a great gambler, and I can prove it,’ says Grandpa. ‘How about a demonstration?’ The auditor thinks for a moment and said, ‘Okay. Go ahead.’ Grandpa says, ‘I’ll bet you a thousand dollars that I can bite my own eye.’ The auditor thinks a moment and says, ‘It’s a bet.’ Grandpa removes his glass eye and bites it. The auditor’s jaw drops. Grandpa says, ‘Now, I’ll bet you two thousand dollars that I can bite my other eye.’ Now the auditor can tell Grandpa isn’t blind, so he takes the bet. Grandpa removes his dentures and bites his good eye. The stunned auditor now realizes he has wagered and lost three grand, with Grandpa’s attorney as a witness. He starts to get nervous. ‘Want to go double or nothing?’ Grandpa asks ‘I’ll bet you six thousand dollars that I can stand on one side of your desk, and pee into that wastebasket on the other side, and never get a drop anywhere in between.’ The auditor, twice burned, is cautious now, but he looks carefully and decides there’s no way this old guy could possibly manage that stunt, so he agrees again. On Sunday, November 29, 2009 at the conclusion of a three day event held at the Hyatt Regency at the Pittsburgh International Airport, Gina Cerilli of Greensburg was named Miss Pennsylvania USA 2010. Gina will represent the Keystone State at the Miss USA Pageant, which will be held May 16, 2010 and broadcast LIVE on NBC from the Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino in Las Vegas. “I was in complete shock, because being Miss Pennsylvania USA and competing on the Miss USA stage has been a dream of mine since I was 7 years old. I was in complete disbelief; I didn’t know how to react when I heard my name called. I saw my hair stylist jumping like crazy in the audience, so I did the same. I’m surprised I didn’t fall over in my tight dress and high heels!” Gina is honored to be representing her home state at the Miss USA Pageant and hopes to make all of Pennsylvania proud. Since Gina was crowned, she has been busy preparing for the Miss USA Pageant and making appearances with Miss Pennsylvania Teen USA, Elena LaQuatra. There is a lot of training that goes along with competing in the Miss USA Pageant. On a daily basis, Gina works out in the gym twice a day and has had to change her eating habits. Gina tells us “I am Italian, so I love to eat. I can usually out eat men two or three times my size. However, I won’t be able to have any eating challenges until after the Miss USA Pageant.” Gina describes herself as blessed, persistent, and outgoing. The motto for her life could be “When the world says give up, hope whispers - Try it one more time” This belief is what helped her win Miss Pennsylvania USA. After being 2nd runner up two years in a row, she wasn’t planning on coming back to compete another year. Cerilli thought that it was God’s way of telling her that being Miss Pennsylvania USA was not part of His plan for her life. However, after a life threatening car accident, she realized that life is too short to live with regrets. Growing up in the Pittsburgh area, you can’t help but to be a Steelers Fan. Every Sunday you will find this titleholder watching football with her family. She is a former NFL cheerleader for the Philadelphia Eagles and performed in front of 68,000 fans for every home game. Gina was selected as one of only twelve cheerleaders to travel to England and promote the NFL. This 23 year old is a certified personal trainer, and an instructor at Barbizon School of Modeling. Gina lived and studied in Rome, Italy for four months and traveled throughout
Europe and Africa. She went skydiving in Switzerland and played with a lion in its cage in Egypt. This past spring she toured factories and met with leaders of corporations in China, as part of her MBA trip. “I enjoyed experiencing the Middle Eastern, European and Asian cultures first hand and hope to visit all the continents in my lifetime”. Gina is the campaign chairperson for her company’s charity, United Way. She helped raise over $10,000 this past year. United Way is important to Gina because the money donated goes directly to those in the local community. Gina explains that you could someday be helping a neighbor, co-worker, friend, family member, or even yourself. Gina also believes in supporting the vulnerable and aging. Last year Gina graduated Cum Laude from The Philadelphia University with a Masters degree in Business Administration and enjoys her profession in the Public Relations field. However, a goal of hers is to eventually become a college professor. After her year as Miss Pennsylvania USA, Gina will return to school to complete her Doctorate program. Gina wants to remind everyone to watch her on the live broadcast of the Miss USA Pageant from Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino in Las Vegas which will be May 16th on the NBC network.

Julie Chichlowski, Director -- Trike Platform at Harley-Davidson, stated, “It has been a great pleasure working with Lehman Trikes on this program. Steel Steeds Motorcycle Campground wants you!
My name is Shirley Raber. I am co-owner of Raber’s Automotive and Hellion Custom Cycles in Mechanicsburg, PA. I have been riding as a passenger for the majority of my life, but decided I wanted to ride my own. My husband encouraged me to apply for my permit and enroll in a safety course. I recommend the course for anyone who is thinking of riding for the first time. I’ve been in situations on the road that could have been disastrous, but because of the skills and knowledge installed in me (Thanks, Paul , I avoided those potential hazards. I have been a licensed rider for over two years now and enjoying every moment. I ride a 2006 Harley Davidson FXSTBI Nighttrain. I started out on a 1999 Harley Davidson Sportster, but quickly realized I was too tall for the bike and needed something better fit for me. Being 5’9” isn’t always a blessing! I am anxiously awaiting warmer weather to get back on the road. No more snow!!!! I hope to see you on the road or stop in and see us at the shop.

The stock chain/tensioner set up is a very weak link in an otherwise pretty well thought out motor. In`07 HD redesigned, but didn’t really address the main problem, instead of having the tensioners use spring pressure, the new hydraulic tensioners will only apply full tension when the rpm`s are up and oil pressure is higher (so at lower rpm`s the chains have less tension on them),I’ll go with the geardrive, thank you! Some riders/shops will say they don’t like the gear drive because if the lower end has more than .004 runout you shouldn’t use it, well if you have more runout than that, forget the cams and have your lower end trued. The installation is fairly simple and can be done by anyone with good mechanical skills (read all instructions first), but if your not sure of your ability, have a shop do the install. First step (if adjustable p/rods are going to be used, if not remove rockers and remove p/ rods) is to cut out the stock pushrods with a bolt cutter (pic 1), now remove lifter covers and remove lifters (pic 2),if lifters are going to reused, mark them to corresponding hole. Take the com cover off (put drain under it, you will get a little oil out).pull tensioner back and pin it (pic 3).Now the outer chain can be removed (pic 4).When you get the cam plate and oil pump out, you can remove the inner chain by holding the tensioner back using the pin same as the outer chain. Now you will want to replace the stock inner bearings with the Torrington units (pic 5).take a look at your stock tensioners, pretty good chance they’ll have wear and show signs of pitting(pic 6),the pitting is the big problem, as the pieces get in the pump and score it. Take your new S&S parts and lay them out (pic 7), read the instructions one more time and get ready for reinstallation. Install the supplied bearings in the cam plate, mark the timing marks on the cams (pic 8) to make them easier to see when pressing into plate (pic 9).Before reinstalling cams, check the run out of pinion shaft, should not have more than .004, if you have more than .006, stop and have a beer, your done for the day! Now its time to lube oil pump, assemble on pinion shaft, install cam/plate (pic 11) and torque to spec. Install outer gears, making sure timing marks are lines up (pic12), replace gasket, cam cover, lifters, install and adjust the p/rods and your done! (pic 13).Make sure after installing cam cover, pour about 1/4 quart of oil down lifter block hole and verify oil pressure before starting by removing plugs and using short blasts with starter motor, also remember that if large lift or high TDC lift cams are used, valve to valve and valve to piston MUST be checked!! Have fun, and be safe!! Kirby www.veetwinperformance.com
