MISSION STATEMENT

Timuquana will offer its members, their families and guests exceptional social, golf and recreational experiences, which foster enduring friendships and preserve community.

As Fall approaches, so does the fourth annual Constellation FURYK & FRIENDS PGA TOUR Champions golf tournament. For our new members and those who have not had a chance to experience the tournament over the first few years, I highly encourage you to do so. This is an exceptional event that not only highlights the talent of those participating, but also showcases our elite course and offerings at the Club. For those who have joined us in the past, I hope to see you all again to share in this unique experience with family and friends. Between the tournament leadership team and the Club’s professional staff, the week of events and hospitality are first-class and have led to the tournament being named the Players Choice Award in 2022 and the President’s Award for Tournament of the Year in 2023. With just four weeks until the championship, I also encourage our members to sign up to be a volunteer and experience the tournament from inside the ropes. There are plenty of opportunities for the entire family with many of our junior golfers creating a lifelong, memorable experience serving as standard-bearers for the touring pros!

In other Club news, it is with mixed emotions that we celebrate the retirement of Billy McKenzie. Billy’s last day with the Club will be on Thursday, October 10. It goes without saying how much Billy has meant to the Club and to the numerous members who he has helped and built relationships with over the years. His work ethic and his mentorship of our young outside operations staff will always be remembered and cherished by those who have had the fortunate opportunity to be a part of Billy’s life. In his honor, the Club will be hosting a cocktail reception for him and his family, open to the entire membership, on Thursday, October 17 from 6–8 p.m. We hope to see you there so you can wish Billy good luck in retirement and thank him for his 36 years of dedicated service to TCC.

Lastly, the matter of a new pickleball facility continues to be a priority and important topic of discussion amongst many of our membership groups. The Board and professional staff are finalizing the design and will be reviewing these plans and costs for the golf performance center and pickleball facility this fall. The Board will plan to highlight the project, its costs and a timeline for completion shortly thereafter. In the meantime, we hope the membership enjoys the new locker room facilities and 19th Hole opening in early September; a project that will be transformational in elevating the Club’s already stellar golf experience.

Respectfully,

TCC 2024 Employee Engagement Survey

As we work to continue our efforts to improve the overall employee experience, we are excited to share we have completed our third annual Employee Engagement survey this past June. We are encouraged by the positive results we received as we believe they will translate to an improved membership experience over time. The goal of the survey was to measure the satisfaction levels of our employees, bring in new ideas for employee engagement activities for 2025, and see where we can enhance our current benefits for all employees.

Results of the survey indicate that when asked if their stress levels were manageable, 98% of employees responded that they somewhat agree or higher. Additionally, 97% of employees agree that they have received the adequate training they needed to be successful and 96% responded that their supervisor cares about them. We are most proud to share that nearly 100% of the respondents answered they were proud to work at TCC. The survey underscored a significant emphasis on Mental Health, indicating a strong interest in activities and support in this area.

The survey also highlighted reactions and positive feedback to our first annual Employee Appreciation Week that was held in May 2024. We started the week with movie night on the Lawn, followed with a self-defense class, baking contest, personal finance speaker and a coffee truck.

By gaining these insights into employee satisfaction and well-being, we can reduce turnover, improve service consistency and create more meaningful relationships between the members and our team.

Constellation FURYK & FRIENDS Tournament

September 30 – October 6

The fourth annual Constellation FURYK & FRIENDS presented by Circle K is just around the corner, with tournament week scheduled for September 30–October 6. Building on years past, it will surely be another spectacular member and community experience here at TCC.

CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL OUR SKILLED GOLFERS!

From the Teaching Tee

Jim Goergen, Director of Golf Instruction

During my 35 years of coaching, it has become clear to me that the students who improve the most do so because they practice and take lessons on a consistent basis. I want to be your coach, not just a person who gives lessons. Real improvement requires a real plan and a coach and a student to follow the plan.

Dropping your handicap by 5 to 10 shots or more is doable, but it demands a commitment of time and energy. We all have tendencies in our swings and with our short games, and those tendencies don’t go away with one-off lessons. Golf industry studies have found that on average people shooting about 100 who are looking to shoot 90 will require dedication for up to a year to take those 10 shots off.

Again, I want to be your coach, not just someone you take lessons from occasionally. I want to see you on the course, help you properly practice, ensure you are playing with equipment that fits you and teach you how to save shots around the green. With this wholistic approach, we can’t fail.

My coaching plans include the following:

• A game assessment, to establish our plan of attack

• Multiple half hour lessons per month over three months, six months, or a year

• Regular group supervised practices (learn to practice efficiently)

• On-course sessions

• Optimizing your clubs

• We need to see each other once or twice per week

Take the first step in this process by scheduling a one-hour game assessment. This is where we will learn more about your game and develop a plan to help solve your frustrations and reach your goals. Your game assessment is the first step to better golf for the rest of your life.

The Game assessment is $130.

Trainer Tip

Front Vs. Rear Pulldowns: Which Is Better?

Lat pulldowns behind the neck are generally discouraged due to potential injuries. It’s best to perform Lat pulldowns to the front rather than behind the neck.

Rear Pulldown Risks

1. Shoulder Injury Risk: This exercise places the shoulders in extreme external rotation, increasing the risk of impingement and rotator cuff injuries.

2. Poor Mechanics: The unnatural shoulder position can cause stress on the shoulder muscles and ligaments.

3. Neck Strain: Tilting the head forward to perform the exercise can strain neck muscles and lead to cervical spine issues.

4. Limited Practicality: The movement has little relevance to athletic activities or daily tasks.

Front Pulldown Benefits

1. Better Muscle Activation: Activates the latissimus dorsi effectively without the risk of injury.

2. Safer: Allows for a natural shoulder position, reducing the risk of shoulder and neck injuries.

3. Functional: Mimics natural movements used in sports and daily activities, providing functional strength.
