Mission Statement

Timuquana will offer its members, their families and guests exceptional social, golf and recreational experiences, which foster enduring friendships and preserve community.

As my presidency comes to a close, I look back on a challenging but rewarding year. We are a club of 1,100 members with a wide variety of perspectives and priorities. I want to thank everyone who took the time to ask questions, express thoughts, and otherwise involve themselves in the workings of the Club. Your participation is important and appreciated by the board.

I would like to extend my sincere thanks to my fellow members of the 2023–2024 board of governors. Like the membership, this dedicated group is one of diverse opinions but unified in the commitment to pursue but one goal — the betterment of Timuquana Country Club. Special thanks are in order for three members who will roll off the board in April: Jim Thompson, Eric Mann, and Jed Davis. As past president and chair of the long range planning committee, Jim’s leadership has been instrumental in everything from the golf course restoration project to the improvements to the membership process. His passion for and commitment to fostering the core values that make TCC unique are unmatched. Jed led our fitness, aquatics and recreation committee for the past three years. Under his guidance, Club programming, most notably summer camps, has seen an incredible increase in quality and participation. Eric has served as the board liaison to the construction committee, most recently helping to guide the locker room, 19th hole, and tennis building renovations. Eric has also served as the board’s representative on the Timuquana Cares Employee Foundation, which has benefitted greatly from his lifelong experience with the YMCA and other nonprofit organizations.

The board involves itself in matters of governance and strategic planning. The board does not manage the day-to-day operations of the Club. As our general manager, it is Greg Sheara and his team who have the greatest impact on our member experience. We are so very fortunate to have a GM as talented and dedicated as Greg and equally as fortunate that he has assembled such an exceptional team. To all of our staff at TCC, I offer a heartfelt thank you.

I am honored to have served as the Club’s president during our centennial celebration year. As I hand the reins (and the headdress!) to Mike Kelley, I am confident that we are well positioned for the next 100 years.

Respectfully,

Tennis and Locker Room Updates

Tennis Deck & Bathrooms

Demo work is finished, and the footers for the new deck expansion are in place. Installation of new trusses will commence shortly, followed by roofing work. The renovation is still expected to be completed by May 1, and we are excited for you to experience these upgrades.

Men’s and Ladies’ Locker Rooms

With framing, electrical, and plumbing work well underway, structural steel installation has begun. This will create an open concept between the men’s locker room and the 19th Hole. Once this phase is completed, progress will quicken, focusing primarily on finishing touches.

Should any members wish to take a tour of these spaces during construction, contact Greg Sheara at gsheara@timuquana.net.

From the Courts

of Tennis

Tennis Tip

Great Doubles Tactics to Remember:

1. Use depth to be aggressive from the back of the court.

2. Keep the net player from intercepting constantly with a shot down the line early in the match.

3. Hit with less height when hitting a shorter ball.

4. Try to get the ball to your opponent's feet when all four of you are at the net.

5. Don't be afraid to hang back near No Man's Land when approaching the net against a serial lobber.

A Word from the Pros

As we bid farewell to the winter season, the anticipation for an exciting and beautiful spring at the Tennis Center grows.

The Tennis Center renovation continues through Wednesday, May 1. While this may cause some disruptions, we are excited about the transformation and are confident that the upgraded facilities will greatly enhance your overall experience. We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your patience during this time. Stay tuned for further communications regarding any operational changes and adjustments to tennis court access.

Spring brings a packed schedule of tennis and pickleball events and clinics. Mark your calendars for the Mixed Open and Doubles Club Championship, taking place Thursday, April 25–Sunday, April 28. This promises to be an enjoyable and competitive weekend. Additionally, tournament and clinic trips to exciting locations are planned for both juniors and adults.

The adult inter-club and the Junior After-School Program are in full swing and will continue to be active throughout the spring season. For a comprehensive schedule of tennis and pickleball clinics and social drop-ins, refer to page 15. Our professional tennis staff is happy to answer any questions you may have and assist you in joining these great clinics.

Furthermore, if there’s anything our Tennis Staff can do to enhance your experience on the tennis and pickleball courts, please don’t hesitate to inform us.

From the Trainer:

Consistency Over Intensity

Choosing consistency over intensity is key to maintaining a sustainable and enjoyable fitness journey. Regular, moderate exercise creates lasting health benefits without the risk of burnout that’s often associated with overly intense workouts. Establishing a steady workout routine promotes lasting habits and long-term well-being, unlike the downsides of pushing yourself too hard during a workout. Embracing small, consistent efforts often results in more enjoyable and balanced workout experiences.

NormaTec Compression Therapy

Experience the healing benefits of NormaTec Compression Therapy, now available in the TCC Fitness Center!

What is NormaTec Compression Therapy? Backed by doctors and years of research, the NormaTec Pulse Recovery System uses biomimicry and rhythmic inflation and deflation patterns that emulate natural muscle pumps. Acting like a deep tissue massage but with scientific enhancements, this system will soothe your arms, hips, and legs.

What Are the Benefits? Compression therapy offers many benefits by increasing circulation and lymphatic drainage, which aids in faster recovery. You can expect increased joint mobility, reduced swelling and muscle soreness, improved training, and maximized performance. Compression therapy can also help athletes warm up before a big event or an intense workout.

What is a Session Like? Compression therapy sessions last 30 minutes and feel like a very tight squeeze that works its way up the chambers of the device. We recommend you wear comfortable yet tight-fitting clothing to your session. Loose clothing can bunch up and become uncomfortable as the device compresses.

Cost: $15 per 30-minute session. To schedule a session, contact Tracy Markley or Kelvin Jones at 904.388.2664 x.144.
