MISSION STATEMENT

Timuquana will offer its members, their families and guests exceptional social, golf and recreational experiences, which foster enduring friendships and preserve community.

As we enter the heart of summer we look forward to the reopening of the Men’s and Women's Locker Rooms and 19th Hole in late August. For those who have toured the renovations over the last month, these spaces are really starting to take shape and the vision of our committees, senior staff and design team is really coming to life. While these renovations will certainly create a more aesthetically pleasing experience, we are equally excited to have Simon Muldoon, our Director of Beverage and Locker Room Operations on staff to aid Maurice in delivering a worldclass member and guest experience. I look forward to your comments on the improvements when we open in late August.

DRESS CODE

As referenced in the letter sent to all families earlier this week, it is the responsibility of all members to uphold the Club’s core values of honesty, integrity, decorum and respect toward all. This includes consistently following the Club’s rules. These rules are in place to ensure the enjoyment of the facilities by all members and should not be taken lightly. With July 4th around the corner, the Board of Governors wants to reiterate that members are responsible for the actions of their guests and should inform them of the club’s customs and traditions prior to being on property. We would like to emphasize that proper dress code is required at all times and members need to make sure that they, their family members and their guests are following proper decorum while on club grounds. The Club has clear guidelines on what appropriate attire is for its various amenities and sends reminders through its member communications. In order to preserve our conservative, family atmosphere, those not in proper attire will be disciplined. If any member has a question on what constitutes proper attire, please speak to the department manager of each area. Please do not put the Club’s management staff in an uncomfortable position to address attire that is too revealing or that does not meet our standards of acceptable dress.

TCC CARES EMPLOYEE FOUNDATION

Lastly, we wanted to highlight the beneficiaries of the fall scholarship awards from the Timuquana Cares Employee Foundation, Carley Nicholas and Mahalia Campbell. Both students will receive $5,000 to pursue higher education at Florida State College at Jacksonville in their respective majors. As represented in their bios on the next page, both are exceptional young women, and we are excited to help them achieve their career goals. Also, as part of member’s billing statements in early August, the Timuquana Cares Board of Directors will be asking for donations to the Foundation as part of their annual fundraising efforts. If you have not donated to the Foundation, we encourage you to do so. The Foundation has now aided more than 25 employees through its financial hardship and scholarship programs. In total, donations have provided $45,000 in support for our staff and their families and your donations will continue to provide the funding the Foundation needs to help our staff for years to come.

From the President

2024 Timuquana Cares Foundation Scholarship Recipients

Carley is in her second year at TCC as one of our assistant coaches and senior lifeguards. Carley also helps with youth activity events, treehouse and camp activities. Carley is an active swimmer and was the captain of her school swim team in her senior year. Carley will be attending a semester at FSCJ and then transferring to UNF to pursue her passion for dentistry. For those who know Carley, she is an enthusiastic, hardworking leader with a positive attitude that rubs off on the pool staff here at Timuquana. Please congratulate Carley when you see her at the pool this summer.

Mahalia is the daughter of culinarian, Richard Campbell. Mahalia is finishing her associate degree in business administration from FSCJ this fall. Mahalia will be transferring to UNF following in pursuit of her bachelor’s degree in marketing. Mahalia is an impressive young woman who devotes her time to helping others through the FSCJ Food Pantry, Eartha’s Farm and Market, her visit to Puerto Rico as part of the school’s alternative spring break and as a student assistant for academic advising. We wish Mahalia the best of luck in her final semester and her completion of her A.A. degree.

Respectfully,

Mike

Membership Recommendations

We extend our gratitude to those who have taken the time to recommend individuals for membership at TCC. With the recent adjustment made to the application process in 2022, we kindly remind our members that each application requires a total of four recommendations, with at least two coming from Founding Members. We emphasize the importance of these recommendations from current members as they provide a true indication of the applicant’s ability to fit within the well-established culture at TCC. As such, it’s imperative that recommending members have a strong familiarity with each applicant they are recommending.

Please reach out to Kate Nolte at knolte@timuquana.net if you have any questions.

Employee Appreciation Week

I am excited to announce we had a successful first annual Employee Appreciation Week, held from May 6-10. The week was filled with fun, relaxation and a little competition.

We kicked off the week with a "Movie Night on the Lawn" featuring Guardians of the Galaxy. Employees and their families gathered under the stars to enjoy the movie, complemented by a food truck and cash raffles. As the week progressed, we offered a variety of activities designed to cater to different interests and promote well-being. Self-Defense Class, DIY Candle Making and Bath Salts, Chair Massages and the Employees pedaled their way to a delicious and healthy smoothie on a Smoothie Bike.

In the spirit of community and giving back, we volunteered at the Jacksonville Humane Society. We concluded the week that brought out the competitive and creative sides of our team with a cookie baking challenge, a caricature artist, and brought in a coffee truck.

We look forward to making this an annual tradition, continuously finding new and exciting ways to express our gratitude.

Employee Appreciation Week

Constellation FURYK & FRIENDS Tournament

September 30 – October 6

The fourth annual Constellation FURYK & FRIENDS presented by Circle K is just around the corner, with tournament week scheduled for September 30–October 6. Building on years past, it will surely be another spectacular member and community experience here at TCC.

We would like to thank the sponsorship committee for securing member-owned businesses to support the event through hospitality suites, Pro-Am participation, and in-kind donations that assist with tournament logistics. Special thanks also to the member volunteers who participate in the execution of the tournament. It is great to see the membership supporting this exciting event for Timuquana, the City of Jacksonville and the charities that benefit from tournament proceeds.

TICKETS & MEMBER CREDENTIALS

As a member, do I receive tickets to the tournament? As part of our tournament agreement, each membership receives two (2) complimentary Clubhouse tickets for each day of tournament play (Friday–Sunday). Additional Clubhouse tickets are available at a daily price of $150 and are charged directly to your member account (no credit cards accepted). From the First Tee

Thanks to all of our members and guests for a great end to our spring season. In early May we hosted the 2024 Iqua Member-Guest Championship, where Ian Hollingsworth and Scott Harkness came out victorious over Bogan Huntley and Blake Bortles after an exciting 3-hole playoff.

Congratulations to these golfers for a great win. We also want to congratulate our Memorial Day Tournament Champions:

• Gross Champions First Place (Score 142): Joey Thigpen, Keith Catlin, Luis Aleman and Tom Boney

• Net Champions First Place (Score 125): Vincent Pulignano, Ian Hollingsworth, Ben Oxnard and Hunter Walker.

As we move into the summer season, we’re excited to start off July with a memorable weekend at the Club as we celebrate Independence Day. Please be mindful of our guest policy on this historically busy weekend. We will host our annual July 4th Tournament with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun. Following the tournament, tee times will be available at 1:30 p.m. During the holiday weekend, family guests and non-resident guests may play anytime on Friday, July 5 and Sunday, July 7, and after 12 p.m. on Saturday, July 6.

The heat of the summer is upon us, and with that comes many afternoon thunderstorms and an active lightning alarm system. Anytime lightning is detected within six miles of the Club, the alarm will sound with one long single blast. At that time, all golfers are required to immediately quit playing and practicing and seek shelter. After 20 minutes from the last strike within six miles of the Club, the all-clear siren will sound with three blasts. At that time, it will be safe to resume playing and practicing. The golf course will be closed for annual course maintenance August 6–8, and tee times will be available beginning at 11 a.m. on Friday, August 9. The course is closed every year during this week to allow Alan Brown and his team to aerify and do any course projects one last time as we approach a busy fall season.

We are not far now from hosting our fourth annual Constellation FURYK & FRIENDS Tournament which is set to be played September 30-October 6. We look forward to having Brett Quigley back to defend his title, along with many other of the game’s greatest players. As we approach the tournament, please be aware of the following dates:

• September 17 – Beginning on this date we will be cart path only until the start of the event.

• September 27 – This is the final day the course will be open to play, as well as the final day the practice facilities will be open.

• September 27 – This will also be the final day for members to take their golf bags from the bag room as well as have all lockers, both men's and women’s, cleaned out.

Trainer Tip

A Guide to Exercise Recovery

What’s your post-workout routine? Hopefully, it includes recovery!

Proper restoration following exercise is vital for multiple reasons. It allows your muscles to heal, priming them for your next workout session. During this phase, essential processes kick in to mend tiny muscle tears and replenish energy reserves. It's the prime time for actual gains in strength and endurance.

Moreover, recovery grants your immune system the opportunity to address inflammation triggered by vigorous exercise. Inadequate recovery can lead to accumulated fatigue, impairing performance and increasing the risk of injury.

So, how do you best recover from that intense HIIT session or weightlifting workout?

Stick to the FOUR Rs: Refuel, Repair, Rehydrate and Rest

Refuel & Repair with carbs to replenish glycogen stores and high-quality protein post workout to enhance the muscle repair process.

Rehydrate with fluids and electrolytes to replace lost sodium and potassium.

Rest to allow muscles to rebuild and aim for 7-9 hours of sleep nightly. Incorporate low-intensity activities like Yoga or stretching on rest days.

Springboard Tower Pilates

Add a dynamic addition to your workout regimen. Mounted on the wall, this versatile plywood board features springs reminiscent of those found on trapeze tables or reformers. With handles and foot straps, it enables a diverse array of exercises targeting various muscle groups and joints.

Here's why you should consider adding Springboard Tower Pilates into your fitness routine:

1. Unique Resistance: Engage your core strength and enhance postural stability in ways traditional weights cannot match. The rebound effect of the springs demands precise control, offering a dynamic workout experience.

2. Diverse Movements: Break free from monotony with a wide range of exercises. Explore new pathways for strength and flexibility gains, such as modifying the classic 100 exercise to target both upper and lower abdominals.

3. Balance Training: Achieve equilibrium by harnessing the resistance provided by the springs. This dynamic balance training sets the Springboard apart.

4. Personalized Attention: Receive tailored guidance for refined movements, accelerating progress in strength, flexibility, posture and alignment.

5. Counteract Desk Posture: Combat the adverse effects of prolonged sitting with targeted exercises. Strengthen posterior muscles, alleviate tension in hips, calves, and hamstrings and enhance overall posture.

Sign up for a session today. All skill levels are welcome. For more information or to schedule, contact the Fitness Center 904.388.2664 x. 144.

Summer is in full swing around the Club and we love seeing the hustle and bustle of members and their guests enjoying the pool, food services and amenities we offer. As we welcome new and returning members and guests, we would like to briefly remind everyone about some of the Club’s rules and policies that help ensure everyone enjoys a first-class experience while on Club property. These are just a few policies we would like to highlight and does not reflect all rules and policies.

Policies & Procedures

1. Guest Policy – Considering the popularity of the pool and limitations on seating, the maximum number of guests allowed per member at any given time is four guests. If you know you will be having a large group of family or friends in town that exceeds this number, please contact Walt Bartman at wbartman@timuquana.net for advanced approval for additional guests.

2.Swimming Attire - Timuquana Country Club’s pool is a family-friendly environment. Members and guests must wear appropriate swimwear that is modest and not too revealing. Please check the pool dress code on our website for details on appropriate attire. Lastly, upon exiting the pool, we require all members be covered or clothed as you venture to other destinations of the club.

3. Vaping - Vaping or smoking is not permitted on the pool deck, at The Grove or other dining areas. Permissible areas are by the Adirondack chairs or by the river away from others.

We appreciate our members and their guests adhering to these expectations and enjoy seeing so many familiar faces around the club.

Lifeguard Schedule

As we look ahead to kids heading back to school in August, we will transition to reduced guarding hours at the pool. As of August 13, the pool will be guarded only on Fridays from 2 p.m. to close and on Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. to close. The pool will remain closed on Mondays for maintenance and swim programs. Tuesday–Thursday the pool will operate under the state of Florida’s Swim at Your Own Risk policy, which designates the following rules:

• Children under the age of 12 need to be accompanied by an adult at all times.

• Children under the age of six need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian while in the pool.

• Hours for Swim at Your Own Risk are 6 a.m.– sunset.

This schedule will continue through Labor Day weekend. During unguarded hours, we kindly ask that all members and guests do their best to keep the deck clean of food and beverage from The Grove and dispose of towels in the appropriate towel bins.

Designed for all ages and skill levels, swim lessons are tailored to each swimmer’s needs and are taught by experienced and certified instructors who emphasize proper technique, safety and fun!
