Board of Governors Mike Oates President Mike Kelley President-Elect Chair, Membership Committee Mike Wachholz Treasurer Chair, Finance Committee George Egan Secretary Chair, House Committee Stephen Horne Chair, Golf Committee Peter Moore Chair, Green Committee Celeste Green Chair, Tennis Committee Jed Davis Chair, Fitness, Aquatics, and Recreation Committee Eric Mann Board Liaison, Construction and Plant Maintenance Committee Jim Thompson Past President

It is hard to believe that a new year is upon us and the holiday season is coming to a close. 2024 is sure to be an exciting year at TCC with the unveiling of the locker rooms and 19th Hole and the enhancements to the Tennis Center — all with anticipated completion in early summer. As part of this issue of The Timuquanan, I want to highlight two new events we have planned. Join us for a Cirque Dinner and Show on January 19 and a Guest Lecture and Dinner with Retired Brigadier General Anthony Tata on January 24. Both look to be great additions to our already robust calendar of events. We have completed our Centennial Strategic Plan, culminating in our celebrations this past year. The ten-year plan has been the Club’s North Star in guiding us to improve our amenities and services over the years. The Board and management have updated the 2023 plan to show our successes and ongoing areas of improvement. The plan is on the Board Governance tab of our website for you to review. This is a terrific resource to see what the management team, committees, and Board of Governors focus on each year. In addition, as we get closer to the Founders’ Day Meeting in early March, you can find our Annual Report to the Membership available within the same section of the website. This informative report details the Club’s financial performance, which we are proud to report through November shows a significant performance over budget. This time of year, we highly encourage members to consider volunteering for committee positions. Committee volunteers have a one-year term that ends annually on March 31, concurrent with the selection of three annual Board positions and appointment of new committee chairs. Committee involvement is the lifeblood of quality clubs, and your participation ensures membership needs are heard and met. If you are interested in serving, please email Greg Sheara at gsheara@timuquana.net. I also want to acknowledge and thank members who have already been actively involved in committees and Board positions, offering their time and talents for the betterment of the Club. Lastly, Founder and Honorary Life members should mark your calendars for Tuesday, March 12 for our Founders’ Day Annual Meeting at 11:00 am. As always, we welcome your feedback and hope you do not hesitate to reach out to me, Greg, or any member of the Board of Governors. I look forward to seeing everyone around our beautiful Club this winter. Respectfully,

Chair, Nominating Committee Chair, Long Range Planning Committee

Employee Engagement in the New Year

As we begin 2024, we look forward to continuing our Employee engagement initiatives and introducing exciting new ones. One of the upcoming highlights is Employee Appreciation Week, which is scheduled for May. This week-long event provides Timuquana with the perfect opportunity to express gratitude to our dedicated staff through a range of activities, including movie night on the lawn, food trucks, a self-defense class, and more. Furthermore, there will be a strong emphasis on personal wellness, featuring activities such as a personal finance speaker, a 5K run, and more. We are excited to continue building an engaged and positive employee base and look forward to celebrating the staff in May.

From the Courts Joe Mattingly, Director of Tennis

New Year's Tennis Tips From Joe Mattingly Focus, Focus, Focus: We all know how quickly and often momentum can change in a tennis match. This year, do your best to focus on each shot individually as if it were the most significant point in the match. Don’t let a lack of focus take you out of the match by handing the momentum back to your opponent. You never know if it won’t come back your way.

A Word from The Pros The Tennis Staff extends a warm welcome to 2024. We wish everyone a joyful new year and trust that you and your family had a delightful holiday season. Now is an opportune time to set goals for the upcoming year and explore various ways to make the most of our tennis and pickleball offerings. You can anticipate an exciting 2024 with the introduction of new programs and social events, adult and junior championships, and trips to professional tournaments and sought-after tennis destinations. In the first quarter of this year, the Tennis Center will undergo several capital projects. These renovations include the outdoor deck area and both locker rooms. Your patience is appreciated as we embark on these exciting initiatives. Furthermore, if there’s anything our Tennis Staff can do to enhance your experience on the tennis and pickleball courts, please don’t hesitate to inform us.

From Zach Goldberg Serve a Bucket of Balls Every Week: Most recreational players have weak serves, which won’t improve without practice. Try to work on your serve for at least twenty minutes a week. In conjunction with serving smarter to eliminate double faults, you will be holding serve more regularly in no time. From Shaun Zemanek Breathing and Grip Tension: Holding the racquet too tight when playing can lead to many problems. Having no pace, spin, or depth can really put you on the defense early. To help with this, make sure you are breathing out when you hit the ball. Breathing will allow you to stay relaxed and be able to hit your shots with ease. From Jen Meredith Quality Over Quantity: Sometimes, finding time to play can be challenging. When you step onto the court, ensure that you are intentional and direct your effort towards specific aspects. The key is not always how much you practice but rather how focused you are when you are practicing.

SOULBODY BARRE UNHITCHED® SoulBody Barre Unhitched® is returning in January on Tuesdays at 9:00 am! SoulBody Barre Unhitched brings that boutique barre experience to the group exercise studio without a ballet barre while delivering all the same body-sculpting benefits as Pilates, ballet, and yoga. This mindfully intense class is a total body workout that focuses on isometric holds, sculpting, and toning muscles effectively by engaging them without joint movement. A weighted bar, Pilates ball, and cardio bursts are used to challenge core stability, strength, balance, and flexibility. ®

Trainer Tip: Implement Time Under Tension (TUT) Training to Maximize Progress Time Under Tension (TUT) training is a workout methodology that uses the tempo of each repetition to maximize muscle engagement and promote great strength gains. Instead of simply lifting and lowering weights rapidly, TUT emphasizes deliberate and controlled movements, increasing the duration of each repetition. This extended time under tension includes the following benefits: 1. Increased Hypertrophy: Extended TUT forces muscles to work harder throughout the entire range of motion, leading to increased muscle growth. 2. Enhanced Endurance: TUT training improves endurance, which enables you to perform better during longer, sustained activities. 3. Prevents Plateaus: Incorporating TUT principles into workouts introduces a new stimulus to your muscles, potentially breaking through performance plateaus. 4. Muscle Tone Improvement: TUT training is often used to enhance muscle tone, stimulate growth, and optimize overall muscular development. For assistance integrating Time Under Tension (TUT) training into your workout routine, feel free to contact any of our Fitness Center staff. They are available to provide guidance and support to enhance your training experience.

Stretching Classes & Massage Services Many people suffer from muscle imbalances, which can arise from various factors, including asymmetrical training, poor posture, or over reliance on certain muscle groups during physical activities. These imbalances can also lead to injuries. In addition to a balanced training regimen, regular stretching and massages are helpful tools for preventing and correcting muscle imbalances, promoting optimal physical performance, and reducing the risk of injuries. TCC's stretch classes and massage services are great options to help prevent and correct any imbalances you may have. Stretch Classes take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7:00 am and Saturdays at 9:00 am in the Group Exercise Studio. For more information on group fitness classes, visit the TCC Mobile App or the TCC website. For information regarding massage services or to make an appointment, visit the TCC Mobile App, TCC website, or contact Amy Cunningham at acunningham@timuquana.net.

"I can't say enough good things about my experience with the training staff

for anyone looking to improve their fitness. The staff excels in getting the most out of me on every visit safely and with good form. Creativity is one of their strengths - workouts are tailored to meet my goals, and the variation keeps boredom from creeping in. I had been reluctant to strength train most of my life - seeing the benefits in my everyday life and overall health has been eye-opening. I look forward to every workout. The trainers are always there with a smiling face ready to work." — Rebecca Sale
