FROM THE PRESIDENT As we move into the heart of the summer, it is gratifying to see the vibrancy of the Club throughout our various activities and programs. The Pow Wow Room, The Grove, private parties, and creative member events have continued to be popular for all demographics of our membership. Last month, the Club’s annual Memorial Day Celebration was well attended, with over 500 members enjoying the pool and kids' activities, and we anticipate our July 4th Celebration should be equally well attended and fun. Summer camp sign-ups have reached full capacity, thus creating enough demand to extend our nine-week schedule another week into August. Additionally, the River Rats are midway through their season, and new programming is creating quite the buzz on the tennis courts. As you explore this issue of the Timuquanan, you will see a number of important programs and initiatives. Details for the 2022 Constellation Furyk & Friends PGA Champions event are nearly complete, with most of the information consistent with last year. Through lessons learned from our first event, we have modified the Club and golf course closure schedule, allowing members more days of access before we close for final setup. While reigning champion Phil Mickelson may not be in the field this year, we plan to welcome some new, familiar Tour faces, making for another exciting week at TCC. Please be sure to thoroughly read the Golf section of this newsletter and upcoming Golf News emails for information on the course opening. Even though we got a jump start on grassing, which will allow us to open a touch earlier than anticipated, the policies and procedures outlined by the Golf Committee are vital for short- and long-term course conditioning success. Procedures will include daily tee times, cart path only, and restricted guest play through the remainder of the year. Please be on the lookout for the Club’s final drone footage, aerial photos, and professional photography of the course to take place in mid-August! Navy Easement The Club received the third tranche of the restrictive use easement in May. The easement was for an additional 60 acres, bringing the total number of acres encumbered to 195, leaving 100 acres of Club property left for the Navy to place under easement over the remaining two years of the five-year option agreement. Thus far, easement income in conjunction with capital dues and new membership initiation fees has helped support $18MM in value added enhancement projects performed over the past four years without “special” capital assessments or adding debt to the balance sheet. 4 | J U LY/AU G U S T 2 0 2 2

Future Improvements Based on the membership survey in 2021, the Long Range Planning Committee review, and various Board of Governors discussions, the Club has identified the Men’s Locker Room, 19th Hole, and Ladies’ Locker Room as the next strategic capital investment project. The Club’s Design Team, Locker Room Committee, and Professional Staff have recently started the programming and design layout of the new spaces, with an eye toward completion of construction documents next year. Tentatively, we plan for the renovations to take place immediately after the Constellation Furyk & Friends event in October of 2023. We anticipate the project to take nearly 10 months to complete. As the design progresses and renderings are approved by the Board of Governors, we will share these exciting plans with the broader membership. With the growth of youth activities, summer camps, the explosion of pickleball, and the continued high interest in the Golf Performance Teaching Center (ranked #1 in the 2021 survey), the Long Range Planning Committee and Board of Governors are continuing to explore plans for these improvements over the next few years. This fall, the Club will solicit member input through a new “Capital Improvement Survey” specific to these areas. Feedback from the survey, coupled with ongoing conversations at the committee level, will help determine the scope and timeline for these important renovations. Centennial Approaching Lastly, the Club has been planning several centennial year events in addition to the creation of an updated Heritage Hallway to be unveiled this August. Should you have any suggestions for events or have historic photos or memorabilia to share, please reach out to Greg Sheara. We look forward to celebrating this momentous anniversary milestone in style in 2023! As always, we appreciate your feedback, so please reach out to me, Greg, or any member of the Board should you have any questions or comments. Have a terrific rest of the summer, and I look forward to seeing everyone around the Club! Respectfully,

Jim Thompson 2022 - 2023 President

FROM THE ARCHIVES THROUGH HARD TIMES: THE ORIGIN OF THE FOUNDER MEMBERSHIP When Timuquana was organized in 1923, membership was limited to 200 Active, voting members (not yet called "Founders"). Each Active member was required to lend the club $1,000, for which he received a non-interest bearing certificate of indebtedness which was payable upon the resignation, expulsion or death of the member. These certificates later proved to almost be the death of the club. With the onslaught of the Depression, the Club was hard hit with resignations reducing the Active membership from 201 to 142, plus a total of 60 more in other categories. Unusual steps were taken to keep the club afloat. Some delinquent Active members were allowed to remain in the club in hopes that they could pay the back dues when times got better. A few members were allowed to lease their memberships to someone who could pay the dues. For a while, the Club operated without a manager. Slot machines in the entrance hall provided additional revenue. For a short time, the Board allowed members to charge dues against their certificate of indebtedness but this sowed seeds of disaster, and this privilege was discontinued. At the Annual Meeting in 1933 a comprehensive plan was submitted by Lee Guest. The members finally authorized the Board to 1) Fix the dues of Active members at $8.50 a month or whatever amount they deemed advisable to operate the club and 2) To consider a plan to admit new non-voting Active members until the membership reached 200, on the basis on paying dues only without an initiation fee or the purchase of a certificate of indebtedness. Acting swiftly under this broad authority, the Board, assisted by 42 members, amazingly succeeded in reaching the goal by the end of June. The Club owes a debt of gratitude to those stalwart members who worked so diligently to save the life of the Club — foremost among them were Dr. T.S. Field, George D. Auchter and Lee Guest. Although the immediate crisis was over, the depression was not. Some members still chose to resign, which

5 | J U LY/AU G U S T 2 0 2 2

meant their certificates matured. The Club was able to pay for a few of these certificates, but so many used this means to demand payment that it was impossible for the Club to continue paying. When it became apparent that they were not going to be paid, some members refused to pay their dues and insisted that their debts to the Club be offset against the amount the Club owed them on their certificates. This compounded the financial crunch. In addition, $77,000 of the certificates were owned by persons who were no longer members and who had no interest in the maintenance of the Club. This debt, if called, would mean the end of Timuquana. The Club was faced with a hopeless situation. In March 1936, the members voted to file a Petition for Reorganization under the Federal Bankruptcy Act. With the assistance of Giles J. Patterson, a Plan of Reorganization was presented to the U.S. Bankruptcy Court. Each holder of one of the old certificates of indebtedness was given the option of a) accepting a new $1,000 bond in satisfaction of his old certificate and giving up his membership or b) surrendering his old certificate and accepting $900 in the new bonds, together with a Founder Membership Certificate with all rights of membership, thereby becoming one of the first Founder members. By March 1938, all but five members had accepted the Plan and had chosen one of the options available. The U.S. Bankruptcy Court entered an Order finding that the Plan had been carried out and discharging the Club from all debts to the holders of the old certificates of indebtedness. The Plan of Reorganization worked. The creation of the Founder Membership category proved to be the solution to the problem and the Club survived the Great Depression. We should not forget those first Founder Members who saved the Club. An excerpt from the 75th Anniversary as created by the Club’s History Commiittee.

The Furyk & Friends team of Adam Renfroe, Tabitha Furyk, Jon Reaves, and Laura Fellwock have been terrific partners and are finalizing details of what will surely be another spectacular member and community experience here at TCC. assist with tournament logistics. Building on last year’s success, Cabanas on 17 and Champions Row Chalets are nearly sold out. Club 58 tickets are available and offered to members at a discounted rate. Please see details under the “Tickets” section below. GOLF NEWS We hope that you and your families are well and that you are looking forward to a great summer. We're certainly looking forward to getting our course opened in a couple of months and bringing golf back to Timuquana. The golf course is growing exceptionally well, and we are confident that you’ll enjoy the changes when we open. On Friday, August 19, we will host the TCC Employee Foundation Tournament. TCC Employee Foundation Tournament Details: • The entry fee will be $1,000 per player. The fee will include a $650 donation to the TCC Employee Foundation, tee gift, walking caddie base rate and gratuity, inclusive of food and beverage, and tournament prizes. • Registration will be available online, July 13, to the first 24 two-person teams. • Registration is available to all golf member categories. • Tee times will begin at 9:00 am off hole 1.

Following our Opening Weekend Tournament, the golf course will open for member-only play beginning Tuesday, August 23. While we are excited to open the course, we all need to understand that the first few months of reopening is a critical and often stressful time for the turf, especially the new greens. We, as a Club, must use the best course management practices to ensure quality turf health. In addition to protecting the course, we will make sure that member play has greater priority over guest play. In 2022 we had 33,000 rounds played, and it’s safe to assume that with a full membership and a fantastic renovation, the demand for golf at Timuquana will be even greater over the coming months. The following policies were established to ensure we can manage the new demand to play, as well as protecting the course during its infancy stage. Opening Timeline | August 23–October 30 • Only members may play the course. Guests will not be allowed to play. • Cart path only for golf carts.

We will host an Opening Weekend Tournament on August 20–21, followed by the Ladies' Golf Gathering on August 25.

• Tee times will be required 6 days a week and will be in 15-minute increments.

Opening Weekend Tournament Details:

• You will be able to reserve your weekday tee times through an app called Foretees. You will receive an email about Foretees in the coming weeks.

• Players will play Saturday, August 20, or Sunday, August 21, but not both days, in order to accommodate as many players as possible. • Registration will open online on July 21, on a first-come, first-served basis, to Founder Members only. Registration will open online on July 27 for the remaining membership categories if spots are still available. • Registration will be available to the first 120 two-person teams; 60 teams, 120 players, will play each day. • The event format will be two members playing 18 holes of best-ball. • All players will tee off hole 1 with tee times available 8:00 am–2:00 pm. • The entry fee will be $60 which includes a golf cart (cart path only), beer on the course, and prizes. Ladies' Golf Gathering Details:

• Tuesday–Thursday: Tee times will not be available between 11:30 am–1:00 pm. We will be referring to this time as a “maintenance gap” to allow Alan Brown and his team to ensure that the course, especially the greens, is holding up well to play. October 1–10 • The course will be closed for the second annual PGA Tour Champions Constellation Furyk & Friends golf tournament. • Member-only play will resume on Tuesday, October 11, and operate under the same rules until October 30. November 1–27 • Cart path only for golf carts.

• Ladies will play Thursday, August 25.

• Tuesday–Thursday: The first tee will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.

• Registration will open online on August 4.

• Friday–Sunday: Tee times will be in 12-minute increments.

• Any lady golfer of the club will be eligible to play.

• Family guests will be allowed to play. As a reminder, family guests are allowed to play a maximum of 6 rounds per year.

• The event format will be 4-player teams, counting 2 better balls of net 4. Ladies may choose their team or elect to be paired up. • There will be an 8:00 am clinic before play. Play will begin off hole 1 at 9:00 am. Lunch and awards will follow. • The entry fee will be $35, including golf, lunch, and awards. 8 | J U LY/AU G U S T 2 0 2 2

• As done previously, members may fill out a tee time request form a week before play. Member-only tee times will take priority over groups with family guests in them. • All groups with two or more family guests will be required to take a forecaddie.

• Family guests will be allowed to play any time after 12:00 pm on Thursdays and Saturdays. Family guests may play any time on Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday. November 29–January 1 • Cart path only for golf carts. • Tuesday–Thursday: The first tee will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. • Friday–Sunday: Tee times will be in 12-minute increments. • Regular guests will be allowed to play. As a reminder, all guests are allowed to play a maximum of 6 rounds per year. • Only family guests and non-resident guests may play on Saturdays and Sundays. • All groups with two or more guests will be required to take a forecaddie.

month. While we have been closed for our course renovation, Taylor has been working at Jupiter Hills Club in South Florida. As we informed you in May, our First Assistant Professional, Scott Primm, accepted the Head Golf Professional position at Ansley Golf Club in Atlanta. We have hired a new First Assistant, Bobby Newberry. Bobby comes to us from Louisville Country Club in Kentucky where he has been an Assistant Golf Professional for the past 6 years. Additionally, Assistant Golf Professional Chris Jaster joined the team in mid-June. Chris comes to us from Sawgrass Country Club where he has been an Assistant Professional the past 5 years. Come mid-August, we look forward to introducing you to the renovated Golf Shop, stocked with new apparel. We will inform you of the official opening date in our weekly Golf News emails as time gets closer. In the meantime, we are still available to assist you in the President’s Room.

In staff news, we are happy to inform you that our Assistant Golf Professional, Taylor Davis, will return to the team later this

We are thrilled to welcome you back to the course in a couple of months. Please do not hesitate to reach out if there is anything the we can do for you before our reopening.

Our course was re-handicapped based on the new World Handicap System. The chart below shows our old vs. new handicaps for both men and women. As you can see, some of the changes are quite significant.

The Florida State Golf Association has also re-rated our course, and as expected, the changes were minimal. The Golf Committee created three new additional combination tees to allow you to choose different yardage options.
