FROM THE PRESIDENT Dear Members:
Leadership Transition As we perform our leadership transition at the March Founder’s Day meeting, I would like to thank Jim Riley, Bret Catto, Mike Muldoon, and John Donahoo for their Board participation and years of service to Timuquana. Additionally, I’m excited to turn the reigns over to Chip Dempsey. Chip is especially prepared to lead the Board and Club, as he has been acutely involved in Club matters for the last seven years. He helped craft the strategic and longrange plans, and will lead the continued execution of both. I have greatly appreciated his counsel and wise decision making this past year as President-Elect. Awards On February 19, our General Manager, Greg Sheara, received the Jacksonville Area Golf Association’s Executive of the Year Award. The award was presented at the annual Celebration of Golf Banquet, which was attended by Jacksonville’s golf elite. Greg was a key driver with the golf course recovery plan and renovation after the damage caused by Hurricane Irma, and has clearly been honored for that work, along with the improved health of the Club overall. Please congratulate him when you see him around the Club. On February 23, Tom Dudley received the USGA’s Joe Dey award in San Antonio, Texas at the USGA’s Annual Meeting and Service Awards Dinner. As previously announced, the merits of this national award are remarkable. Additionally, Tom was also recognized with Greg on the 19th at JAGA’s Celebration of Golf Banquet. The Club will host a cocktail reception this summer to honor Tom for these awards and all he’s done to promote TCC around the country. Please join us – we may even be able to get Tom to tell a few stories! Projects As of this writing, the pool project is pacing slightly behind the projected early April opening date. The good news is that it remains on-budget and the construction team hopes to make up some time as the weather improves. Greg and the team will be communicating pool opening and programming details in the very near future.

Additionally, the planning for the Pow Wow renovation is coming along nicely. As promised, we will communicate the design concept as soon as it's available. Reflection After 6-7 years of immersion, I’ve come to some conclusions: first, the country club business isn’t easy. With limited revenue opportunities and aging facilities, implementing viable long-range capital plans takes significant commitment from the membership. Our membership’s commitment will clearly provide an unequaled experience locally, and one that has been, and will be recognized nationally. In the best form of flattery, several other clubs have decided to follow our path. Second, like many other industries, it's very difficult to find quality labor within this one as well. I read recently that the Golf Course Superintendent’s Association considers the current labor shortage a crisis, and the most significant issue the industry has ever experienced. The shortage in other parts of the club industry aren’t much different. We are fortunate to have a full and tenured staff that will continue to improve. Recently, we attended the TCC Team Member Appreciation Party. Roles were reversed and Board members bartended and tried to help everyone have a good time. Over 150 team members and family attended. I noticed two things as everyone was more familiar and relaxed: our team really enjoys one another; and all are committed to the success of our Club and the enjoyment of our members. That’s hard to find in any business and was great to see! I’ve really enjoyed learning about this business and hopefully helped to make it better. Thank you for the opportunity to do so. Sincerely,
Jason Burhyte 2018 - 2019 President jburhyte@pabloriverpartners.com
THE USGA IS COMING TO TCC U.S. WOMEN’S AMATEUR FOUR-BALL CHAMPIONSHIP UPDATE
Timuquana is proud to be hosting the 5th annual U.S. Women’s Amateur Four-Ball Championship. During the one-week period of the Championship, from Wednesday, April 24 – Wednesday, May 1 and periods leading up to the tournament, normal activity at the Club will be disrupted. Highlighted below are the changes to Club operations during the Championship.
GOLF • Golf carts will be restricted to cart paths only starting April 9. On Saturdays and Sundays, April 13, 14, 20, and 21, walking will be permitted prior to 2:00 pm. • The golf course will be closed starting Wednesday, April 24. The course will reopen at 10:30 am on Thursday, May 2 following the completion of the Championship. • The golf course will see little impact during the preparation of the course ahead of the Championship. The rough will be kept at a 2” height and other normal maintenance practices will continue.
LOCKER ROOMS • The Men’s Locker Room will be transformed into the Players’ Locker Room during the Championship. We kindly ask that all members who have a locker, please remove their belongings by the end of the day Saturday, April 20. Starting Sunday, April 21, Club staff will bag, label and store everyone’s items until the end of the Championship. We will need close to 130 lockers made available for the players that week. • During the Championship, the Men’s Locker Room will be restricted to Players and USGA female staff only. The Club’s other restroom facilities will be available for member and spectator use. • The Ladies’ Locker Room will be used for USGA Men’s officials. The Ladies’ Locker Room will be closed starting at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, April 23.
BAG STORAGE • We will need to find some room for players who wish to keep their bags at the Club overnight. Should you need your bags to play at other local clubs during closure and wouldn’t mind keeping them there for the week, we would greatly appreciate the extra space.
DINING • The Pow Wow Room will remain open for member dining throughout the Championship. It will operate under normal hours of operation daily. • The River Room will be closed for the duration of the Championship, starting Monday, April 22. • The 19th Hole will be the site for the USGA home office. The 19th Hole will close to member dining following lunch service on Thursday, April 18. It will reopen under normal hours of operation on Thursday, May 2.

CARD PLAY • Due to space restrictions, we will not be able to accommodate card playing, including Duplicate Bridge, beginning Tuesday, April 23. Card playing will resume on Thursday, May 2.
FITNESS • The Fitness Center will be open with normal hours of operation. • The Group Exercise Studio will be used as the medical office during the Championship, and will be shut down starting Wednesday, April 24. The last group classes will be held Tuesday April 23, and will resume on Thursday morning, May 2.
TENNIS • The Tennis Center will be used for volunteer headquarters, so activity in and around the Pro Shop will be very high. The tennis courts will still be open for member use. Team and Program scheduling will be halted during the week of the Championship.
PARKING • The Club is typically challenged during large events and this will be no different. • The Club’s pool and tennis parking lots (to the right and left as you enter the grounds) will be restricted to players, players’ families, and USGA officials only, starting Thursday, April 25 through Monday, April 29. i. On Thursday, members may park in the main lots after 5:00 pm only. ii. On Friday, Sunday, and Monday members are restricted from parking in the main lots all day. iii. On Saturday, members may park in the main lots after 5:00 pm only.

Please be conscientious of the signs and rooms before you enter, as some rooms have been changed to gender-specific rooms. On behalf of the Championship Committee, we want to thank the membership for allowing these great players from around the country to participate here at Timuquana. While the Championship will cause some disruption in normal activities around the Club, we are excited to host this prestigious event and showcase our fine golf course and Club.

POOL
POOL CONSTRUCTION UPDATE
We are in the final two months of construction of the new pool. As you can see, progress has started to accelerate now that all of the foundations, retaining walls and site drainage are complete. In the coming weeks, the pool will really take shape as the pavers will be installed around the pool and dining area, the kitchen and bar will be formed, landscape will be added, and the restroom fixtures will be installed. Considering we were excavating a site from the 1960’s and needed to maneuver around some design and site issues, the pool is close to on-schedule with the anticipated completion date just ahead of the USGA U.S. Women’s Four-Ball Tournament on April 24. The construction team will continue to work on details and punch list items into the first part of May with the anticipated pool opening on Friday, May 10 of Mother’s Day Weekend. We would like to thank all of our members for their patience with parking, closures to entrances, and noise disruptions while dining in the Pow Wow Room. Within this issue of The Timuquanan, we have highlighted a number of new programs and events to take place at the new pool that will surely make the inconvenience of the last seven months of construction all worthwhile. As we get into the final stages and the construction site becomes safer, I welcome anyone wishing to take a closer look at the construction site to email me, or RSVP for our hard hat tours.
Greg Sheara, CCM General Manager gsheara@timuquana.net
COMING SOON A brand new casual dining experience is coming to Timuquana... The Grove will feature a fun & exciting menu of snacks, sandwiches, salads, and flatbreads. Grab a cocktail from the walk-up bar and relax in comfort under a grove of palms strung with lights, or sit by the new fire pit, sure to become a go-to place for gathering with friends. This all-new venue highlights the spectacular riverfront; an experience that's uniquely, Timuquana.
HARD HAT TOURS As the major construction wraps up, we invite members interested in the construction progress to visit and tour the site. Hard Hat Tours will be available on Saturday, March 9 from 2:00–4:00 pm. Feel free to come by anytime during those hours for a 30-minute tour of the site. Please call the front desk to RSVP so we know how many hard hats to plan for! W W W.T I M U Q UA N A . N E T

'A River Runs To It' See Timuquana from a whole new perspective - from the river! One of our best-kept secrets is our dock, nestled up against the western shore of the St. Johns River, right behind the Clubhouse. While a number of our members already enjoy this amenity - boating to the Club from across the River, or stopping by for lunch or a delicious meal to-go, it's a feature unique to our Club that offers a whole new way to "Discover Timuquana." It's also a great way to ditch the traffic and enjoy a leisurely ride to and from the Club - over to downtown, or to destinations all along our River City. Our dock is equipped with water and electrical hookups, and available to our members at all times, so stop by and stay awhile - and enjoy your Club in a whole new way. W W W.T I M U Q UA N A . N E T

GOLF NEWS It’s spring time!! The PGA tour, USGA, and Timuquana will have plenty going on in which for you to get involved. First, our very own Men's Four-Ball Championship will be played March 2–3. The Championship will be played on Saturday and Sunday with an Oyster Roast on Saturday night. It should be great fun again this year. Regular play will be permitted after approximately 12:30 pm on Saturday and after 1:30 pm on Sunday. March 7 is our Ladies’ Member-Guest. The theme for the event is Shades of Green. Members may bring one or three guests. The cost of the event is $85 per player. Please return your completed entry form to the Golf Shop by March 5. Founder’s Day is played on March 12 this year. There is no entry fee for this event. The format is 1 best ball of your foursome. Flighting will be a little different this year. Each foursome will compete against every other foursome. We will use the rule of 70 & the rule of 85 to move to the White and Gold tees. If you do not have a group please call the Golf Shop and sign up as a single and we will do our best to find a game for you. TPC week is different this year. The event will be played March 14–17. As we have done the past few years, we will not have ladies' day on Thursday, and we will be ready for play early on Thursday and Friday morning, so you and your fellow members or guests can play early and go to the tournament. Please let me know if

you need anything special during the week. And remember, Pow Wow will be held March 28–30. The golf course will be reserved for tournament participants and their guests for those three days. We are looking forward to a wonderful weekend. As we move into April, we will start with the Ladies’ Club Championship. It will be played on April 3 & 4. The format for this year will be stroke play. There is no entry fee — we hope you will consider playing! Saturday, April 6 will be our semiannual demo day. Titleist, Callaway, Taylor Made, PXG, Ping, Honma, Cobra, Cleveland, and more will be on hand for all members to come and try the latest and greatest in technology. All orders run through Timuquana’s accounts and we will be giving a 10% discount on all orders that day. There will be complimentary beverages and sandwiches out, so please bring the whole family! The Timuquana Masters will be conducted Saturday, April 13. Make your own group and play between 7:00 am and 1:30 pm. The entry is $20 per person. The format will be better ball of partners with a twist – you and your partner will select a player who has made the cut in the Masters and he will be your partner. Your team’s score will be your net better ball score plus your player’s score in the Masters during his Saturday round. The televisions will be on in the
19th Hole and Pow Wow bar and we encourage everyone to come out and watch the Masters and see who did well in this year’s Timuquana Masters. Don't forget to look for the Masters Sandwiches at the T-stand Thursday– Sunday of Masters week! PGA Junior League is a fun scramble format that teaches junior golfers not just the skills to play the game, but also how to mark their ball, tend the flag, and most importantly, great pace of play. If you are looking for the next step for your junior golfer ages 7-13, this is it! The season will run from May 7–August 27. The league will cost $395. Included in that fee is all Practices, Matches, Under Armour Team Jerseys, Titleist Golf Balls, and a Custom Team Headcover. Each team will have 12 to 16 players on it. Sign up in the Golf Shop.

GOLF CLINICS
Improve your golf etiquette with helpful tips from the pros
Men’s Clinic – Every Tuesday at 11:00 am (Please make reservations at least 24 hours in advance)
1) We get a lot of dew this time of year. After you hit a bunker shot, please rake the bunker and then knock the sand off of your shoes at the edge of the bunker and before you walk and track sand on the putting green.
Ladies’ Clinic – Every Wednesday at 11:00 am (Please make reservations at least 24 hours in advance)
2) If you ride in a cart and carry chipping clubs and your putter to the green, after you hit your chip, leave your chipping clubs on the green between the hole and your cart. This way after you putt, you will be very likely to see your chipping clubs and won’t leave them behind as you go to the next hole.
Mar. 19 & 20 – Putting
Mar. 5 & 6 – Chipping and Pitching Mar. 12 & 13 – Full Swing
Mar. 26 & 27 – Bunker Play Apr. 2 & 3 – Full Swing Apr. 9 & 10 – Chipping and Pitching Apr. 16 & 17 – Putting
3) We have entered an era where it is OK to putt with the flagstick in the hole, however, most groups will still remove it. If you are the first person to finish the hole, you should move to where the flagstick is and lift it and wait for the last person to finish the hole. Then put it in the hole without hitting the edges of the hole.
Apr. 23 & 24 | Apr. 30 & May 1 – No Clinic

Our calendar is still full of great events that will engage every type of player, from the most competitive and advanced to the couple that just want to mix conversation with court time.
