FROM THE PRESIDENT In my last letter as President, I want to take the opportunity to let you know of some significant initiatives the Club has scheduled for 2020.
Once we agree to final terms and the Board approves, we will have a Founders' Meeting to present the case and submit for approval of the membership.
Have you ever wondered how the world's best golfers, like Tiger & Phil, would fare on our golf course? You'll soon have a chance to find out! The Jim and Tabitha Furyk Foundation and PGA TOUR Champions approached the Club with the idea of hosting a championship at Timuquana. Following extensive negotiations and planning, the Board of Governors signed a five-year contract beginning in October 2021. This event will benefit the Club and the local community in a number of ways. This is an amazing opportunity for TCC to showcase our fine Club, and affords our members front row access to some of the best golfers in the country. More information on the event can be found on page five of The Timuquanan.
With the growth of membership, the new pool and The Grove, our exquisite golf course, and the plethora of programing for all ages, we've had a banner year of use in all aspects of the Club. A by-product of this increased use is that we're experiencing tight parking, specifically around events like First Friday, Breakfast with Santa, Easter events, and so on. We've been able to mitigate the issue for the most part for the membership by having employees park just past the Tee Stand, in an open area of Club property. Recently, the City notified us that the Club is out of compliance with this method of parking. In turn, we have developed a plan to formally develop a compliant and aesthetically pleasing parking area that blends well with the natural surroundings and shields cars from the #10 tee. We believe the final product will be a welcome addition that improves safety and alleviates the parking issues.
Another significant topic the Board has been working on for a couple of years is a Restrictive Use Easement that the Navy is seeking to place on the Timuquana property. Very simply, the Navy would like to buffer their runway from any development. In particular, they do not want development of buildings or ponds that attract birds. We have negotiated the terms of the agreement that would allow Timuquana to use all the acreage in question for country club activities. These activities include overnight accommodations, nature trails, and any expansion, renovation, or addition to the Club’s facilities, expanded short game facilities, etc. So essentially, the impact to TCC would be minimal. The Department of Defense and the State of Florida set funds aside each year to allow for military institutions to buffer their property from development (a program called the REPI program) and the Naval Air Station Jax is one of many bases in the country of great importance. The final outcome of a Restrictive Use Easement with the Navy and the City would result in a significant exchange of money for the Club. The Board would direct these funds to reduce debt and allow us to move forward with capital projects on the 20-Year Capital Reserve Study (aka Mueller Plan) that we developed in 2016.
We've had the great privilege over the last three years to have the stewardship of Tommy Dudley, Jr. as Chairman of the Golf Committee; Tony Kurlas as Chairman of Entertainment and Food & Beverage; and Jason Burhyte as President-Elect, President, and Past President. During these gentlemen’s terms, we experienced a record growth of membership, activity participation, and countless events and capital projects that have further enhanced the membership experience of all. As I roll from President to Past President, I want to thank the membership for giving me the opportunity to lead such a fine organization. It has been a real privilege to watch Greg Sheara and his incredible team, day in and day out, show such pride in their jobs. I hope I was able to leave the Club in a better place than I found it, and have no doubt that David Loop will take it to the next level during his term. Respectfully,
Chip Dempsey 2019 - 2020 President

Dear Members, It is with great excitement that we announce that our Club, in partnership with the PGA Tour Champions, The Jim and Tabitha Furyk Foundation, and Constellation Energy, will be the host site for a new event – Constellation Furyk & Friends — to be played October 4–October 10, 2021. The Tournament We are thrilled to bring the PGA TOUR Champions to Timuquana. Legends of the game — such as Fred Couples, Bernhard Langer, Tom Lehman, Davis Love III, John Daly — recent rookies such as Ernie Els, Steve Stricker, Retief Goosen, Jim Furyk, and Phil Mickelson will be walking the fairways of our Club. As the hosts, we are committed to connecting the excitement of Furyk & Friends with the traditions of professional golf. In that spirit, we are planning on raising the bar of the on-course atmosphere with live music, amazing food, wine grottos and craft cocktails, all interwoven along the iconic grounds of Timuquana. We invite you to come mingle with friends and family, create new partnerships, and build relationships while enjoying the river, the course, and the fantastic fan experience, all while supporting local charities in Jacksonville. The Impact The joint goals of creating community and supporting charitable efforts are the building blocks of this non-profit tournament. The partnership between The Jim & Tabitha Furyk Foundation and PGA TOUR Champions, together with the support of Timuquana CC and all our combined fans, will provide a tremendous showcase for the City of Jacksonville. We are looking forward to celebrating Jacksonville’s strengths, including the generosity of its citizens towards those in need on a national platform. The tournament was created to provide a positive effect on both our economic and social development, building
a better Jacksonville for everyone. Through community participation, we can make a tremendous impact and we hope that you will join us! The Jim & Tabitha Furyk Foundation The Foundation was created to serve children and families in need in our community. In 10 years they have raised over $3.5 million dollars for at-risk children in Northeast Florida. Some of the project-specific funding has included providing weekly and holiday meals, educational enrichments and safety resources for Jacksonville’s less fortunate students. Their collaboration with other organizations, such as Wolfson Children's Hospital, Blessings in a Backpack and Community PedsCare, has provided the necessary funding to help our communities become healthier, stronger and educationally enriched. Our Participation Our Board of Governors believes that this return to championship golf reflects our place as one of Jacksonville’s most significant and enduring institutions. It affords our members the chance to work together to impact the Jacksonville and golfing communities in meaningful ways, and to make an important contribution to charities around our great City. Our Leadership The Club’s Executive Committee led by Chip Dempsey and Jason Burhyte, along with Golf Chair Tommy Dudley, Jr., has been actively engaged in conversations with the PGA TOUR for nearly a year. The Committee has researched other Champions Tour host facilities and in October, our Board of Governors unanimously endorsed and authorized Club representatives to enter into a contract with the PGA TOUR and The Jim and Tabitha Furyk Foundation to host the tournament in the years 2021-2025.

Benefits While our course will be closed down for member play for one week each year, there are a number of benefits to hosting this event: 1. The financial benefit of hosting the event is anticipated to have a very positive impact on the Club. 2. Members will receive two free tickets to the Clubhouse amenities during the tournament each year.
In closing, we’d like to emphasize the Board’s excitement about the tournament. Fellow TCC members should feel a great amount of pride when we see our beautiful golf course featured on national television with noted pro golfers competing to conquer our challenging links. The Constellation Furyk & Friends tournament offers our Club a unique opportunity for members to come together in support of the game of golf, the Jacksonville community, and important charities of our great City. Sincerely,
3. National and local exposure for the Club that will aid in long-term member recruitment efforts, ensuring our Club remains at healthy membership levels. 4. Members get the chance to view incredible championship golf on our home course.

Ongoing, the Club will also devote a section of its website to the tournament. The website will provide a simple way for members to ask questions and to make comments about the event. Additional information will be provided in upcoming issues of The Timuquanan and via special e-mails as the tournament draws nearer.

MEMBERSHIP & MARKETING It's the busy season here at TCC, and our Membership & Marketing office is in full-swing with exciting projects and developments. In addition to our focus on driving membership and welcoming new members to the Club, we're also hard at work on continuing to improve communications, effectively market the Club, and develop successful, strategic initiatives to improve the overall membership experience. Coming off two record-breaking years for new membership growth at the Club, interest in Timuquana, it's stellar amenities, world-class dining, and nearly endless array of activities and programming, continue to draw interest from prospective members. As always, it's important to remember that membership growth and maintaining a steady flow of new members to the Club is vital to our continued success - and a catalyst for the introduction of much of our new programming so we encourage everyone to help spread the word about Timuquana to friends, neighbors, and family. Communications are an important focus of delivering exceptional member service, and we're always looking to improve and evolve the ways in which we keep everyone informed. As you'll read on below, we're excited to announce the launch of a member text messaging system for critical
communications, adding to our repertoire of email, print, social media and online efforts. We're also working on our 2020 Strategic Planning initiatives, which includes the upcoming launch of an all new Member Orientation Program - featuring the development of comprehensive membership resource booklets; as well as the development of a Membership Ambassador Program. We're also working on adding a new CRM (customer relationship management) system to enhance the tracking/management of prospective members and engagement of current members. Lastly, we're starting the process of scanning and digitizing our membership files, enhancing our workflows, backing-up important files, and reducing our overall carbon footprint. We're excited for another great year for membership, and watching our TCC Family grow and thrive. If you are interested in sponsoring a new member or learning more about membership at TCC, please feel free to contact me. Holly E. Kaspar, MBA Membership and Marketing Director hkaspar@timuquana.net
Introducing Member Text at TCC To enhance our lineup of communications and emergency notifications, we've launched a new Club text messaging system through Member Text! Member Text enhances our ability to communicate critical information - such as Club closures, event cancellations, power outages, and both storm and emergency communications keeping members informed and up-to-date. The system also allows us to tailor text messages to specific groups of members for important updates. The program is optional and you may opt out at any time. All members were automatically enrolled at launch, but if you never received a message - or accidentally opted out and want to rejoin - text TIMUQUANA to 71441 to sign up. When signing up, you'll receive a confirmation text requesting your name and member number to get you setup. If you need assistance, contact Holly Kaspar at hkaspar@timuquana.net.

GOLF NEWS New World Handicap System In the beginning of 2020, the USGA rolled out its new World Handicap System. Under this new calculation, you may have experienced a change in your course handicap. We understand that this doesn't come without some confusion. The golf staff invites you to stop by and ask any questions you may have. New Golf Shop Merchandise The TCC golf staff had the opportunity to attend the 2020 PGA Merchandise Show and were able to test the latest and greatest in golf merchandise. Be on the lookout for new merchandise from familiar brands and fresh new brands as well. Founders' Day Founders' Day will be played on Tuesday, March 10 this year. There is no entry fee and the format is 1 best ball of your foursome. Each foursome will compete against every other foursome. We will use the rule of 70 and the rule of 85 to move to the White and Gold tees. If you wish to play and do not have a group, please contact the Golf Shop and we will be able to pair you up. This event will likely fill up fast so sign-up in the Golf Shop with the information for your complete foursome soon. The PLAYERS The PLAYERS is right around the corner. The event will be held March 12–15. Due to the anticipated demand for play, there will be no formal Ladies' day. We look forward to getting you around the course quickly and then off to watch the event. Ladies' Member-Guest Thursday, March 19 is our Ladies’ Member-Guest. The theme for the event is the Mad Hatter from Alice in Wonderland! Members may bring one or three guests and the cost of the event is $90 per player. The entry deadline has been extended to Thursday, March 5 at 3:00 pm. Regular play will begin at approximately 11:30 am. Pow Wow The demand for Pow Wow was strong this year with over 120 teams turning in entries, and registrants arriving at 6:30 pm the night before. CLINICS AND JUNIOR GOLF Men's and Ladies' Clinics Spring is a great time to work on your game and weekly clinics are a great opportunity to do so. If you haven't taken advantage of these clinics, we would like to encourage you to give it a try. The topics vary week-to-week but include Full-Swing, Chipping & Pitching, Bunkers, and Putting. You can sign-up through the Club's online calendar, or by contacting Jason Smith at jsmith@timuquana.net. Demo Day Our first Demo Day of 2020 is on March 7. This is a great chance to try clubs from nearly every manufacturer at the same time. The golf staff will also be on hand to answer any questions you might have and, as always, we will offer 10% off on any Demo Day orders.
GOLF TIP The key to improvement is making the most of your practice time. Don’t just show up at the range and aimlessly hit dozens of balls. Quality practice means having a purpose and that is only possible when you know what you are trying to achieve during each session. Next time you head to the range, have a plan, vary your targets, execute shots, and try to be as specific as possible. If you are struggling to come up with ideas, try this: pick a target you can easily reach with a short iron and then practice hitting that target with one extra club. Learn to control your trajectory and your distance and you will have another weapon to bring to the course.
FAMILY TEE
PGA Junior League Our Fall PGA Junior League was another amazing experience for everyone involved! I would like to give special recognition to Tripp Vogt, Addy Vogt, Reece Hoffmann, and Tyler Conyers for being selected to the end-of-year All-Star Team. These four juniors represented TCC alongside the best players from San Jose CC, Deerwood CC, Sawgrass CC, and Ponte Vedra Inn & Club. Out next season of PGA Junior League golf will begin in May, so be on the lookout for information regarding this awesome program. If you have any questions about PGA Junior League or you would like to get your junior golfers involved, please contact me for more information.
We are excited to announce the implementation of a new Family Tee here at Timuquana Country Club. In conjunction with the PGA’s “Tee It Forward” initiative, this new teeing ground gives all golfers the ability to play the course at a length that is aligned with their average driving distance. Golfers can speed up play by utilizing tees that provide the greatest playability and enjoyment. Our hope is that this can continue to introduce new players to the game, both young and old, to keep the rich golfing traditions here at the Club for generations to come. We anticipate these tees will be in place and ready to use in early April!

There is a new curved hitting wall that will send a realistic bounce back to you. New hoppers and teaching carts are also making our lessons and clinics more enjoyable. We have replaced our old ball machine with the best machine on the market — the Playmate iGenie. This ball machine is Bluetooth compatible with its very own app for your smart phone. You can turn the machine on and off with your iWatch and control the spin, pace, and height of the ball directly from your phone. This ball machine can fine tune and enhance everyone’s game. Court Refurbishment The biggest news for this spring is that the tennis courts are getting a complete refurbishment. During the first week of June, the courts will be laser graded and 10 tons of new clay will be added to each bank. The courts will also get new lines and net posts. It will be like having brand new courts! Timuquana has made bettering your tennis experience a top priority for the past 18 months. From the smallest ideas like new cup holders to a complete overhaul of the courts, we are dedicated to making the tennis program and facilities the absolutely best they can be.
