Mission Statement

Timuquana will offer its members, their families and guests exceptional social, golf and recreational experiences, which foster enduring friendships and preserve community.

As I humbly assume the role of President, I can’t help but marvel at the state of Timuquana. By careful adherence to our strategic plan, the Club has been able to channel funds received from the Restrictive Use Easement into amazing capital improvements. Over the past five years, we have: replaced and upgraded the pool and surrounding areas, opened the Grove, remodeled the Pow Wow dining and bar areas, upgraded the kitchen and service areas, and restored our 100-year-old Donald Ross golf course to an extraordinary state. Prudent use of the Navy easement funds and efficient management of the Club have allowed us to do all of these things without assessing the membership or taking on debt.

In the coming year, we plan to continue executing our strategic capital plan, with upcoming projects to include the remodeling of the men’s locker room, the women’s locker room, the 19th Hole, the Tennis Center restrooms, and in 2024, the construction of a golf performance center and pickleball complex. We expect to receive additional Navy easement money this year and next. That, combined with the anticipated capital income generated by capital dues and initiation fees, should again allow us to complete these projects without taking on debt or assessing the members.

We are all proud of our Club and justifiably so. That said, we are a group of 1,100 members and, like any large group, we come with a wide variety of opinions. On behalf of the board, I invite you to ask questions and express your opinions to the board. My pledge to you as President is that we will endeavor to make that as easy for you as we can.

We have at least one significant issue to decide this year – whether we will extend our role in hosting the Furyk & Friends Champions Tour event after our current 5-year commitment expires in 2025. Later this year, we plan to hold town hall meetings to discuss the benefits of the tournament to Timuquana and the city of Jacksonville and also to listen to the concerns some members may have over the tournament’s impact on the golf course. I look forward to those discussions.

Later in the year, we will hold a town hall meeting for Founder and Honorary Life members to discuss board proposals for the 2024 Founders’ Day vote before issuing the Proxy Statement. In doing so, we will afford the voting members an opportunity to ask questions and discuss the membership proposals before they are circulated for a vote.

These efforts will help only if you participate and, if you are a Founder or Honorary Life member, cast your vote when it is time to do so.

I look forward to this, our Centennial Year, and I hope to see you all at the Club!

Respectfully,

2023

Membership and Employee Engagement

Membership

Summer is fast approaching, and with it all the usual fun member activities. As the Club proceeds to welcome members through natural attrition, we continue to host Membership Committee meet-and-greet dinners with Prospective Members. With a commitment to ensure Timuquana is comprised of families who uphold the values of our Club, we expect the dinner meet-and-greets will aid in this.

Employee Engagement

In March, we launched the Timuquana Employee App, which has proved beneficial to our employees. The app features employee events, an all-encompasing staff directory, anniversaries, P.R.I.D.E. announcements, and more. This has also allowed our staff to stay up-to-date on important member information, such as member event details and dining menus, and participate in employee competitions such as May Wellness Bingo!

PHOTO GALLERY

Did you know the TCC Mobile App has a Photo Gallery?

Photos from all of the latest events are right in the app! You can also save or share photos directly from the app.

The Photo Gallery can be found by tapping “Menu” in the bottom righthand corner and then tapping “My Club” and then “Photo Gallery.”

To download the app, search “Timuquana Country Club” in your phone’s app store.

TCC Welcomes Jennifer and Jarret

We are excited to announce two new additions to Timuquana’s Food & Beverage leadership team! Jennifer Dominquez fills a role new to TCC as our Assistant Food & Beverage Director, and Jarret Flake is our new Executive Sous-Chef. Mike Barber, our former Executive Sous-Chef, transitioned to the full-time role of Director of Purchasing. After an exhaustive regional search, Jen and Jarret were selected from a large pool of applicants as we believe they will elevate the member experience.

Jen joins us from Ansley Golf Club in Atlanta, Georgia where she experienced all aspects of member service, including a strong focus on staff training and development. Some of her accomplishments include obtaining her Level 1 Sommelier, receiving the James B. Singlering CMAA National Scholarship, as well as being an active member of Women in Club Management and the local and national chapters of the Club Management Association of America (CMAA).

From the Courts

Joe Mattingly, Director of Tennis

Tennis Tip:

Imagine you’re playing doubles when you lob the ball over your opponents’ heads, and they are running it down. Things look good for your team, but you never advance to the net! This scenario occurs often, but why? Most players are so mesmerized by their good shot they tend to just stand and watch it; others are afraid their opponent will lob back over their heads. Do not be guilty of either one of these infractions.

A Word from The Pros

It’s hard to believe that spring is coming to a close and summer is right around the corner. Our summer clinics and camps for tennis and pickleball will be in full swing in June. Limited space is available, and early registration for summer programs is encouraged.

Additionally, the TCC Tennis Staff would like to thank everyone that participated on a team during the 2022–2023 season. This season exhibited great competition and fantastic team camaraderie for all. Timuquana Country Club was well-represented throughout the Jacksonville area.

We look forward to seeing everyone on the courts throughout summer!

First, stop standing still, watching the magnificence of your last shot. Instead, learn to move into the correct position. This means you must advance to the net, creating more pressure on your opponent’s return. It is important to watch the ball as you do this but don’t be intimidated; you do this all the time when driving a car. It may take a little practice, but it will pay huge dividends in the long run.

Second, do not think your opponent will lob back over your head just because you approach the net. Instead, think they’re going to hit a short lob. Thinking this way is offensive and positive-minded rather than defensive and negative-minded. Although some return lobs may go over your head, if you stick with it, you will get your share of high short lobs to put away. With this mindset, you are making your opponent hit good shots in order to beat you. Always challenge your opponent to make those difficult shots under pressure!

WEIGHT TRAINING TIPS FOR A STRONG & HEALTHY BODY

Whether you want to tone your body or simply be fit enough to enjoy summer activities, weight training is one of the best ways to accomplish your fitness goals.

Here are six weight training tips to help get you started:

1. Perform a Total Body Workout

A total body workout is a great way to target all of your major muscle groups at once.

2. Track Your Progress

What gets measured gets improved! This also allows you to see the small changes and progress you may not have noticed otherwise.

3. Don’t Be Afraid to Fail

Reframe failure as a chance to learn, and through trial and error, you’ll quickly learn what works for you.

4. Fuel for Training

To get the most out of your workout, and improve progress, ensure you’re eating enough high-quality food to fuel your workout.

5. Supplement with Cardio

Even if weight training is your primary focus, you shouldn’t neglect cardio as it provides various benefits that positively affect your weight training.

6. Have a Schedule

Having a pre-set schedule makes being consistent and sticking with a plan easier.
