FROM THE PRESIDENT I would like to welcome the many new members and their families who have joined the Timuquana family over the past few months. Let’s all do our part in making them feel comfortable and at home. I’ve had the opportunity to speak to most of our new members, either by phone or in person as part of the on boarding process, and it’s always nice to learn how they heard about the Club and why they chose to join. The most frequent answer to my question about how new members heard about or experienced the Club is from a friend or family member who is currently a Timuquana member. Often times, that friend or family member introduced them to the Club during a special event like a Wine Dinner hosted by Matt Harrington, with food specially-prepared by Chef Lewis; or through a round of golf, followed by a drink on the River Terrace at sunset. I also commonly hear that their kids had been to the Club with a friend to swim, golf, play tennis, or some other activity. The common thread in these scenarios was that they were introduced to the Club and liked what they saw – people enjoying one another’s company in a world class, family-friendly setting. The compliment I hear most frequently from new members is that Timuquana is a warm and welcoming place to experience fun and friendship. They say the Club offers the opportunity to get out of the house on a mid-week afternoon and head to the pool with kids while inevitably running into friends at The Grove. For so many, it’s about enjoying a round of golf after work with buddies and realizing that as you play the back nine with the long shadows of the pines stretching across the fairway, though you’re in the center of Jacksonville, you'll feel like you’re in

the in the middle of nowhere all by yourself. Just wait until you see the wild turkeys we have now in abundance living on the golf course! The Club strives to provide engaging events for everyone to get together, such as our First Friday Happy Hour, and our robust calendar of events centered around golf, tennis, recreation, fitness, and dining. We all have our favorites, but the two that stand out the most to me are our golf Member-Guest (Pow-Wow), where guests come in from all over the country to experience our championship course, and social events on the River Lawn. We have some guests who have been coming back for over 30 years! Another of my favorite events is Gourmet on the Greens, where the Club’s staff transform the fairway on the first hole into a spectacular food and wine experience. Lights are strung through the large oak trees, table after table is loaded with great wines and spirits, incredible food stations, abundant with delicious tastes, and the band "Bread and Butter" to round out the evening. I hope that all of our members can find their niche at the Club, have great experiences, and develop new friendships. Timuquana is a special place, and we welcome all of our newest members and their families to make the most of it. Respectfully,

Chip Dempsey 2019 - 2020 President

FROM THE GENERAL MANAGER With the dog days of summer behind us, we turn toward a jam-packed line up of fall programming. As you read through this month's Timuquanan, you'll see a considerable focus on junior activities and recreational programming, creating fun opportunities for the many young families here at TCC.

For middle school and high school kids, Walt Bartman, Recreation Director, has started our own Box Lacrosse team and one-on-one private lacrosse lessons. Let’s also not forget fall water polo, which has started to see a positive reaction from the summer clinics we held the last few months.

We completed the second round of the Membership Preview Program in July, and our results surpassed our expectations once again. During our two membership drives, we have welcomed 200 families to TCC and can happily say that we are net 50 members greater this calendar year alone. The average age of these 200 members is just 43.75, and these households have 161 children 16 years of age or under! The average age of this group is 17 years younger than the average age of the membership just two years ago.

As we embark on these new activities, we continue to ask for feedback on how we can make your experience at TCC a better and more special one. Please feel free to email your suggestions and comments to suggestions@ timuquana.net or email or call me directly.

The shift in demographics and comments we have received from current and new members within this group has created a need for more junior programs. While we are absent of a youth activities center in the near term, we will focus our attention on special after school programs, such as tutoring, STEM-based learning activities, and Mommy and Me Day Camp. You will also see a new family night activity, Future Members' Winning Wednesday, replacing the kids eat free night.

5 | S E P T E M B E R /O C TO B E R 2 0 1 9

Additionally, on September 17 and 18, Club President Chip Dempsey and I will be available from 9:00–10:30 am for roundtable discussions on the state of the Club and to answer any questions you may have about the future of TCC, current programs or any issues we need to address. Please email me if you are interested in attending at gsheara@timuquana.net. I look forward to seeing everyone at the Club this fall.

Greg Sheara, CCM General Manager gsheara@timuquana.net

MEMBERSHIP & MARKETING We concluded our Preview Membership Program with three record-breaking months for membership. After two banner months in May and June, we rounded out the program by welcoming 25 new members to the TCC family in July! As Greg mentioned in his article, we've grown our membership by 200 over the two years of the Preview Program, including a large number of young families - which is really driving all of our exciting new, family-focused and junior programming.

launching an all-new sponsor incentive program, details of which can be found on the next page.

Please extend a warm welcome to all of our newest members and friends! You'll find a list of our newest members below. As always - if you ever need assistance with your membership, have any questions, or are interested in sponsoring a new member, please feel free to contact me at any time.

With so many new friends and neighbors here at the Club, we'll be looking to do more to get everyone introduced, formalizing our new member orientation process, starting to collect and share photos of new members so you can greet them around the Club, and

Warm regards, Holly E. Kaspar, MBA Membership and Marketing Director hkaspar@timuquana.net 904.388.2664 x.131

GROWING OUR TCC FAMILY

SHARING THE MAGIC OF THE TIMUQUANA EXPERIENCE All of you, our members and friends, are the very heartbeat of Timuquana and the very reason why our Club is the special place that it is. Some say it's the undeniable sense of community and family - the warmth of old southern hospitality and charm you feel the moment you enter the Clubhouse or step up to the first tee. Others reflect on the memories they've made here, through generations of family legacies, growing up with the Club and later joining themselves. From enjoying our world-class amenities, to gathering with friends new and old, there's an undeniable sense that when you're here, you're home. If our members are the heartbeat of our Club, then new members are the lifeblood that keeps us going strong. While the membership will always ebb and flow over time, it's important that we continue to build upon our current foundation by inviting new friends, colleagues, neighbors, and family to discover the magic of Timuquana. Invite a friend to join you in a round of golf, tennis, a dip in the pool, dining at our Clubhouse, or to attend a special event, and they're sure to understand why the TCC experience is second to none.

A SPECIAL THANK YOU GIFT TO SPONSORS We recognize the importance of all that our members do in bringing new members to the Club. As a special thank you, starting in September, all sponsors (primary and secondary sponsors for any category of membership) who propose new members will receive a $250 TCC Gift Card to be used around the Club. OUR NEW SPONSOR RECOGNITION EVENT In addition, every sponsor who brings in at least one new member for the year (starting September 1), will be invited to our new, Annual Sponsor Appreciation Event, where we'll celebrate everyone for their efforts, hold special raffles and giveaways, and recognize our top sponsors with a chance to win an unforgettable getaway experience! More information will be announced, so watch for news and announcements. READY TO BECOME A SPONSOR? To learn more about sponsoring new members, please contact Holly Kaspar, Membership and Marketing Director, at 904.388.2664 ext. 100 or by email to: hkaspar@timuquana.net.

DISCOVER TIMUQUANA

INTRODUCING OUR NEW INITIATION FEE STRUCTURE With the conclusion of our record-breaking Preview Membership Program, we've launched a new pricing structure for new member initiation fees. While initiation fee pricing has returned to our regular structure, we're now offering two options for payment. The full, regularly-priced initiation fee can be spread over three annual payments, interest-free; or new members can choose to pay the initiation in-full, upfront, to receive a special, discounted initiation fee.

To apply, prospective members just need to submit an application and two (2) sponsor letters. They'll then be invited to a Board Meet & Greet, which are held at 6:00 pm on the night of the Board Meeting. Learn more about current membership information and forms at www.timuquana.net/discover; or contact Holly Kaspar, Membership and Marketing Director, at hkaspar@timuquana.net for more information or to schedule a personal tour. ENDOWMENT FUND Since 1923, Timuquana Country Club has been a special place to many families, friends, and loved ones. A place in which we all take great pride in being part of exceptional social, golf, and recreational experiences that create lifelong friendships and preserve our community. As a Club, it is our goal and responsibility to ensure we carry on this legacy. To accomplish this, Timuquana Country Club has established an Endowment Fund to provide a reliable source of income to the Club for generations to come. Timuquana Country Club’s Endowment Fund is not only a hedge against future uncertainties, it is a commitment to provide our Club with the means to finance special projects that aid in the beautification of our Clubhouse and grounds,

ultimately enhancing the quality of life for all current and future Club members. The Endowment Fund will act in the same 501 (c) (7) method as the Club currently operates, so donations to the Endowment will not be taxdeductible. The Endowment Fund will be managed by the Development Committee as appointed by the Board and will seek appropriate guidance on the management of the fund through investment managers. Information on the Endowment Fund, including its formation documents and investment policies and a copy of the Gift Form for donations, will be mailed to all members later this month, and will be available on the Club’s website.

GOLFER’S IQ Improve your golf etiquette with helpful tips from the pros

1) Hats & Shirts – At Timuquana we ask everyone to wear their hat in conventional fashion and make sure you and your guests have your shirttails tucked in. 2) First Tee – If you are starting your round, please check with the Golf Shop before proceeding to the 10th tee. 3) Skipping – it is not cool to skip around on the course while playing holes. It is disruptive to others. If you do encounter a group and you are in a hurry, ask if it is OK to go on to the next hole and do not jump right in front of a group no matter how fast you think you play.

TENNIS NEWS Summer was an absolute blast here at the TCC Tennis Center. Sports and KE campers not only kept the pros on their toes, they also learned how to rally, keep score, and play points. Wine Not Thursdays have been a success and we look forward to next summer when we bring them back. We now look towards fall to after school programming, ladies' teams, USTA men’s leagues, and new programming for beginner men and women. As pros, we are always asked the same question: “What is the hardest part about learning tennis?” I can tell you the absolute hardest part about playing tennis is getting the courage to come out to that first lesson or that first clinic. You will have fun, you will enjoy yourself, and most importantly of all, you will quickly make new friends! In July, we hosted the “Wimbledon and Whites” social. This event has already become a Timuquana tradition. In classic Wimbledon style, our members played in a round robin tournament in their all whites. We had 34 players in 3 different divisions playing for bragging rights. What made this event so special was the grass court that was made for the exhibition on the River Lawn with Wimbledon finalist and First Coast resident MaliVai Washington. All the proceeds were donated to his youth foundation, which serves at risk youth in the Jacksonville area. The winners were Phil Bravo and Scott Hudmon in the men’s elite division, Katie Deering and Kendall Taylor in the women’s elite division, and Patti Frykberg and Danielle Sussman were the women’s champion division winners. Fall programming has begun for everyone from our 3 to 4-year-olds with mommy, juniors with state championships aspirations, all our ladies' teams, and beginner men’s and women’s programming. Tennis is the absolute healthiest lifelong sport you can play. If you have any questions about all of our exciting or new programming, please call us in the Tennis Pro Shop. We look forward to serving you. Mark your calendars to Save the Date for our Tennis Member-Guest, November 8-10!
