FROM THE PRESIDENT To say that the last few months have been disruptive and challenging would be an understatement. The Club continues to be impacted by the coronavirus pandemic. Cancellations of private member events like weddings and anniversaries, and larger member gatherings like First Friday and Bingo, have changed the landscape of member usage. The handling of member and staff exposure to the virus has challenged the management team to ensure operations remain open and employees are kept safe. It has been a true test of morale-building for Greg and his senior leadership team. Unfortunately, the outlook for these areas remain bleak through the fall and winter. We anticipate continued strain on the Club’s financials, and we are likely to see traditional events, like Open House and Breakfast with Santa, cancelled or modified. The Club’s staff is looking for ways to keep these important traditions this year in varied forms. Keep your fingers crossed for college football so that the fall has some semblance of normalcy! While many areas have been impacted and life at the Club has been modified, there have been a number of great successes. Our long term projects continue to be a focus of the Board and management. Like many clubs around the country, TCC has benefited from the “stay-at-home” culture with member activity soaring. Pool usage, summer camp participation, and rounds of golf are all at historic levels. This increase in member activity has reduced the financial impact of event cancellations and removal of guest access/income in March and April. Membership levels and interest in TCC continues to rise with membership now at 1,053. This is a net increase of 111 from our lowest
4 | S E P T E M B E R /O C TO B E R 2 0 2 0
point in 2015. We are often asked now “What is the Club’s cap on membership?” What a great problem to have! The Board is actively monitoring activity and will continue to review an overall membership level threshold. As a reminder, our peak membership was 1,104 back in 2006. Today, particularly with a young and active junior category, Timuquana certainly feels like a busy place most days. To that end, you may have seen the construction of the ancillary parking lot. That project is coming along nicely and should be completed ahead of the Pow Wow Men’s Member-Guest at the end of September. This should alleviate some of the congestion we have seen over the years. Lastly, our tennis lighting project is nearing completion and should be ready for a Labor Day weekend grand opening. This is a terrific enhancement for the tennis community. I appreciate the membership’s continued support and patience as we navigate through these uncertain times. Rest assured that the Club’s goal is to continue to offer an exceptional membership experience—even during times of crisis. I think we have successfully done so thus far, and welcome your continued feedback on how to make TCC an enjoyable and safe place to be. Respectfully,
David Loop 2020 - 2021 President
CONSTRUCTION UPDATES July and August have been busy with renovation projects throughout the Club. We hope that the impact to parking, tennis access, and dining adjustments have been minimal during this time. Everyone’s patience is appreciated as we continue working toward these exciting enhancements. Pow Wow The Pow Wow Room is on schedule and, equally as important, on budget through August. Most of the work thus far has been demolition, flooring, rough-in electrical and plumbing, duct work, and wall framing. However, you can really start to see the kitchen and dining room take shape. Of particular importance, the columns in the bar area have been removed along with an additional column to the right side of the bar entrance from Heritage Hallway. This work has taken time due to new structural steel being installed in these areas. The last of the large columns in the dining room should be removed by early September. Additionally, as part of the Club’s normal maintenance program, the roof is being renovated along with the addition of new HVAC units that feed the Pow Wow Room and kitchen and new exhaust systems for the new kitchen hoods. The dining rooms will really start to take shape in September and October — so if you are interested in viewing our progress, please email Greg Sheara at gsheara@timuquana.net to schedule a tour. Parking The new parking lot is slightly behind schedule as we awaited precast drainage basins to arrive on site; however, we still anticipate the main portion of the lot to
be completed on September 21, ahead of the Pow Wow Member-Guest. The remaining balance of landscaping and low voltage lighting will continue to be installed through the end of September. Construction of additional handicap parking spots began with the forming of new ramps and sidewalks. The sidewalk from the parking lot to the T-Stand is complete. Once the parking lot is finished, we will be doing some additional work to the right of the T-stand. We will be reducing the asphalt bump out section where a number of cars currently park. The landscape area will be removed and replaced with sod, and the white fence the exists between the two practice putting greens will be extended to this area to avoid future parking in this location. While we know a lot of members love these spots so they can jump right on the course, parking in this area creates safety concerns where the road bottlenecks. We are also excited to see the new sod and a great view of the clubhouse coming in from #18 fairway. Tennis Lighting Courts 7 and 8 are complete and look fantastic. Demolition and new wiring and footers are now complete on the remaining courts. Lighting for courts 1-6 should be completed by September 11. This project was very labor intensive as the old poles were embedded in the concrete footers. The project required the installation of new 6’ deep footers. During the project, contractors had to navigate a high water table and install new court irrigation piping in some areas as well. In the end, this will be another terrific benefit for a growing tennis program.

MEMBERSHIP & MARKETING It's been a busy summer in the Membership & Marketing office with ever-increasing interest from prospective members and new member families joining the Club at an impressive rate. With so much going on, we'd like to share with you some important membership updates. New Member Approval Process Changes We've been fortunate to see a large volume of new member families joining Timuquana over the last few years. With all of our growth, the Board and Club management have found it necessary to revise our current membership approval process. While the initial steps of the process will remain the same (submit an application and two sponsor letters, and attend our monthly Board Meet & Greet); we're now adding an additional step before new members are fully-approved. Starting with the September 22 Board Meeting, prospective members will be provisionally-approved at the Board Meeting. Their names will then be circulated to the membership for comment. If no comments are received by the next month's Board Meeting, the provisionally-approved members will be considered fully-approved and will then be invited to join the Club. This will allow for a more thorough process and a better opportunity for our members to share feedback on incoming members.
Initiation Fees Increasing January 1 Have you been considering an upgrade from your current category? Do you know someone who may be interested in joining the TCC Family? Now is a great time to make the move and take advantage of our current rates. Our Board has voted to increase initiation fees starting January 1, 2021, so any new transfers or new members joining by the December Board Meeting, will be able to get in at our current rates. Watch your email for an announcement of the new rates. Please feel free to contact me to learn more. GO GREEN WITH EMAIL STATEMENTS
In an effort to reduce our carbon footprint and offer a convenient member service, we’re excited to announce that paperless, emailed billing statements are now available! To enroll, fill-out and return the enrollment form included with your billing statement, or contact our Concierge at concierge@timuquana.net or 904.388.2664 x.100. Holly E. SEPTEMBER EVENT DATES
Despite the pandemic, we had a very active summer for golf at TCC, and I would like to thank you for your support of The Club and the staff. I think we can all agree that the game of golf has been able to provide us solace during these unprecedented months, and for that we can all be grateful for this wonderful game, as well as our state and local governments. Alan Brown and his team continue to do magnificent work on the course to enhance your playing experience. With his extensive aerification process to the fairways and greens, as well as the sodding of the approaches with trinity zoysia, the golf course is primed to be in exceptional shape this fall. Please be sure to thank his staff for their efforts this summer. We have a very active tournament schedule over the coming months, beginning with our Labor Day Golf Tournament, then highlighted by events such as our Ladies' Opening Day, Pow Wow, Ladies’ and Men’s Club Championships, Ladies' MemberGuest, and Men’s Member-Member. This fall will also be very active with golf instruction and programs for both juniors and ladies as our Director of Instruction, Jason Smith, has put together a thorough program schedule. Please be sure to reach out to Jason with any questions regarding programs and instruction. I hope that you and your families have a safe and healthy fall, and I look forward to seeing you around the Club.

TIMUQUANA LADIES' ACADEMY
The Timuquana Ladies’ Academy launches in October! It incorporates the Operation 36 model, which centers around playing on the golf course. Clinics will take place on Wednesdays followed by Thursday play days. Participants will develop their skills during the Wednesday clinics and then put them to the test during the Thursday play days. To keep the experience fun and reduce the amount of time needed to play, participants will begin by playing 9 holes from 25 yards. Tuition for the Ladies’ Academy is $100 per month and includes two clinics, two play day events, and access to the Operation 36 app. For more information, contact Jason Smith at jsmith@timuquana.net.

TENNIS NEWS As we “fall” into our ladies’ team season, after-school junior programming, and pickleball, it’s such a great feeling to be back into our normal routines. Our summer was very busy with ladies’ practices and numerous private lessons, while our kids’ camps were at capacity each month. We held our second annual “Woodies and Whites” event in July. Despite the extremely steamy weather, the event was a smashing success. Adding extra sparkle, there were fireworks on the grass court during the exhibition match on the River Lawn. The view on that court has to be the best in the state! It’s not every day you get Wimbledon finalist MaliVai Washington to sit in the chair and call your match! We want to say a big thank you to all the members who helped raise over $3,000 Matthew Bacon, USPTA for the MaliVai Washington Director of Tennis Youth Foundation. mbacon@timuquana.net

Unlike traditional tennis events, XGLOsive takes the pressure off and turns the music and the fun way up! This is truly a special event that you do not want to miss. TCC TENNIS WELCOMES JENNIFER MEREDITH Please help us in welcoming our new Associate Head Professional, Jennifer Meredith, to the TCC tennis community. Jennifer was an accomplished collegiate tennis player for the Tennessee Lady Vols between 2007 and 2011, where she was the SEC player of the week three times and team captain during her junior and senior years. Since graduation she has been an assistant professional at three distinguished private clubs including Ocean Reef in Key Largo, FL and Midtown Athletic Club in both Chicago and Atlanta. She has also been the Assistant Coach for the ladies' tennis teams at the University of Connecticut, University of Missouri and, most recently, Syracuse University. At Syracuse, she successfully coached three ranked singles players and doubles teams. JJennifer brings with her a demonstrated ability and in-depth knowledge of how to grow the game and improve player performance. That, along with a competitive spirit and overall genuine and outgoing personality, will fit well within our tennis program. We look forward to her arrival on September 21. Please help me in welcoming her when you see her at the Club.
