I want to thank Greg Sheara, Blanton Tessin, Jim Riley, Fred Seely, the Harris Interiors design team, and the Jacksonville Historical Society for unearthing some rare gems from our Club’s history. Each piece is proudly displayed throughout the Club and shares our fine heritage. Over the next few weeks, additional pieces of artwork will be incorporated. In February, as we celebrate the Club's official 100th anniversary, a commissioned oil on canvas painting will be unveiled to sit as the main focal point of Heritage Hallway.

I also want to thank the 44 members who played in the Employee Foundation Tournament on the opening day of the golf course. The tournament raised $28,600 for the Timuquana Cares Employee Foundation. This contribution doubled the fund's value and will provide the flexibility we need to offer meaningful assistance to our staff members with scholarships for higher education pursuits and hardship grants during times of financial distress. To that end, I want to highlight that the Employee Foundation Board of Directors granted its first scholarship to Emma Tatum, who works at TCC as a Lifeguard. Emma will attend Georgia Southern University in the fall, majoring in Multimedia Journalism. I would also like to thank the Hardship Grant Committee members Drew Haramis and Shannon O'Leary for directing Foundation funds to aid three employees this year through difficult, life-changing Lastly, situations.wewould like to thank the members who completed the Capital Improvement Survey sent out last week, and we encourage those who have not done so to please complete it before the September 10 deadline. This survey will provide vital member input to help steer the Long Range Planning Committee and Board of Governors in determining future Club amenities and prioritization. In early October, the survey results will be available on the Club website and will be emailed to the membership in early October.

Special thanks are in order as I write this edition of the president's article. After eight months of hard work and anticipation, the golf course, Golf Shop, Heritage Hallway, and restrooms reopened to rave reviews. I have received both in-person and written comments from fellow members complimenting the results of these renovations, most notably, the golf course and its excellent condition upon reopening. I would like to personally thank Alan Brown and his crew, the MacCurrach Golf Construction staff, our course architect Bruce Hepner, and the Greens Committee for ensuring that our high expectations were met and often exceeded. At the same time, the newly renovated Golf Shop, Heritage Hallway, and restrooms reopened, and wow, what a transformation! I hope members appreciate the attention the Club staff and fellow members gave to enhancing the Club's historical record.

2022JimRespectfully,Thompson-2023President

FROM THE PRESIDENT

Finally, it is terrific to see the camaraderie and fellowship that the golf course and first tee reopening brings to the member experience. We look forward to continuing that connection through our upcoming golf tournaments, Club events, and next year's Centennial celebrations. As always, we welcome your ongoing feedback, so please do not hesitate to reach out to me, General Manager Greg Sheara, or any member of the Board of Governors. I look forward to seeing you around our beautiful Club!

Employee

Some new ideas for employee engagement activities that were popular in the survey include food trucks, excursions such as Topgolf and Indoor Autobahn, health and wellness activities, and quarterly awards. We will continue to review and share survey results to help us build on strengths and outcomes favorable to our strategic plan. It will require concerted effort from everyone to achieve the workplace excellence to which we aspire at Timuquana Country Club.

The survey also highlighted our current benefits and those which employees would like to see in the future. 401(k), scholarship opportunities, annual holiday bonus, and longevity awards all received an importance rating of 3.9 and above out of five stars. Future benefits include an enhanced 401(k) match, paid parental and family leave, and the addition of a health savings account.

New Members

It is always our goal to provide you with experiences that are top-notch, and we recognize that the engagement and productivity of employees are at the heart of cultivating excellent service. Continuing our efforts to improve in these areas, we are excited to announce that we completed our first annual Employee Engagement Survey in July. The goal of the survey was to measure the satisfaction levels of our employees, bring in new ideas for employee engagement activities for 2023, and see where we can enhance our current benefits for all employees. A total of 85 employees out of 160 completed the survey. Results of the survey suggest that, in general, TCC employees are satisfied with their job (88%), received adequate training (89%), and plan to say at TCC (88%). However, employees are less satisfied with a work/life balance (20%) and being compensated for their work (30%). We had high responses from employees who feel they are getting the supervision to be successful (91%), supervisors are approachable and easy to talk to (95%), and they understand how their work contributes to the success of the Club (98%).

Adding speed to a golf swing can be an effective way to add more yards off the tee. When golfers try to add swing speed, they typically swing harder, not faster. The solution is “Overspeed Training” and SuperSpeed Golf. Beginning on October 14, golfers will have the opportunity to participate in a 6-week program designed to increase their swing speed. Clinics will take place every Friday at 4:00 pm. Cost is $350 and includes a set of SuperSpeed Sticks (a $199 value). For more information or to register, contact Jason Smith at jsmith@timuquana.net.

Clinics will take place on Wednesdays followed by Thursday play days. Participants will develop their skills during the Wednesday clinics and then put them to the test during the Thursday play days. To keep the experience fun and reduce the amount of time needed to play, participants will begin by playing 9 holes from 25 yards.

BALL TENNIS

CLINICS

Dinks and Drinks: Pickleball Clinic and Social TENNIS TIP: EARLY PREPARATION

One of the most common groundstroke errors we see as coaches, day in, day out, is starting the backswing too late. By the time your opponent’s shot has traveled a few feet from his or her racket, you know if your next shot will be a forehand or a backhand. This is the time you should start taking your racquet back. But many players are still in their ready position when the ball bounces on their side of the court! If you wait until the ball bounces on your side, you now have maybe half a second to get the racquet back and then forward to the contact point which isn't much time. In most areas of life, people make mistakes if they are rushed. Tennis is no exception.
