St George’s Day is a celebration dedicated to the Patron Saint of England, commemorated on the anniversary of his death. According to legend, he was a soldier in the Roman army who saved the King’s Daughter by slaying a dragon that demanded human sacrifices. King Edward III made him Patron Saint of England in 1350, with the day now symbolised by the St George’s Cross.

Since its inaugural running at Aintree in 1839, the Grand national has become an iconic global horse racing event. At this time, a horse named Lottery won the ‘Grand Liverpool Steeplechase’ with a course involving horses jumping over a stone wall, crossing a stretch of ploughed land and finishing over two hurdles. The Grand National in its current format did not begin until 1839, with races over 30 conventional hurdles for the unpredictable sport.

Launching with an original premium vodka, the coffee flavour has quickly become the brand’s best seller.

RAISE THE HOOF - RYDERS CREED SYMPATHY FOR THE DEVIL - THE ROLLING STONES RUNNIN’ WITH THE DEVIL - VAN HALEN DANCIN’ DOWN BELOW - AARON BUCHANAN & THE CULT CLASSICS HELLS BELLS - AC/DC
Cloven Hoof began life behind the bar in 2016. Landlord of the George and Dragon pub, and founder of Cloven Hoof Rum, Paul Stanley became tired of the typical tipples behind the bar with their synthetic flavourings and mythological stories. From kitchen top experimentation to blending sessions, Paul decided to launch his own authentic deep red rum. Using imported rum from Guyana’s Diamond Distillery and a lighter rum from Trinidad Distillers Limited, the rums are blended with a mysterious concoction of natural spices, cloves, star anise and cassia bark to create Cloven Hoof. With the spirit ready for launch, friends thought up the Cloven Hoof name because “the Devil made them do it”, a sentiment reflected in the deep red label and devil imagery. As the spirit stood on the shelves, punters developed a taste for the rum and it quickly gained traction across its origins of Brighton and Hove. Now, Cloven Hoof has found its way from behind the bar on to shop shelves including Majestic Wines and Hartleys Wines, as well as being poured from selected pubs across the UK.

London life is ever-changing, but some things remain constant. Like the city’s love of tea. Brewing up in the capital started over 300 years ago and hasn’t stopped since. While they didn’t know about caffeine, polyphenols and antioxidants back then, they certainly appreciated a strong cuppa to keep them going. Launched in 2013, Harry Brompton takes the capital’s tea traditions in a new direction. With the finest teas sourced from the Great Rift Valley in Kenya to juice from South American Limes and Spanish Lemons, Harry Brompton developed an all-natural, low calorie British Ice Tea to keep the modern Londoner onthe-go. Each bottle has a revitalising blend of tea, a little juice and minimal sugar, with their non-alcoholic ice tea containing only 80 calories or less. Not satisfied with tea being just a day time drink, Harry Brompton added vodka to the mix to create an awardwinning alcoholic ice tea range, including the Berries and Cucumber Tea which has won a Great Taste Award. As featured in this month’s box, the Berries and Cucumber Ice Tea combines sweet juice raspberries, tart cranberries and cucumber with Kenyan teas for a refreshing twist.

The story of Friary Liqueur dates back over 20 years to the heart of the Somerset countryside. With a secret recipe passed down the family, each generation continues to develop a new range of liqueurs, ensuring each batch is produced using the finest ingredients. Handcrafted in small batches, producing less than 100 litres of liqueur each time, Friary continue to approach production by hand with each bottle crafted with care. Featured in this month’s box, Friary’s toffee liqueur is made from a blend of sweet toffee flavour with grain vodka creating a smooth and creamy toffee drink.
DELICIOUS ENOUGH FOR DOWNTON In 2015, Friary Liqueurs received a call from from the producers of Downton Abbey enquiring about their liqueur range. The producers were enquiring if Friary would be apply to supply liqueurs in specially designed Downton bottles to celebrate the cast and crew’s very last day of filming at the nearby Highclere Castle. Friary quickly designed a label and produced 70 bottles of Sloe Gin which were gifted to the cast who raised a glass to the their Downton Days with a Friary in hand!

TIPPLER’S TIPS & TRICKS
The Martini Revolution
The Mixology Brothers specialise in providing cocktail parties to corporate and private events and we thrive on the challenge of producing delicious drinks, no matter what the event space or environment, with each menu fully tailored to the client’s demands. We have noticed an increase in requests for modern ‘Martinis’ which goes against our, “if it aint broke, dont fix it” rule! Don’t be fooled into thinking we are
stuck in our ways, we’re not, but the thought of mass producing a Pornstar Martini from a mobile bar fills us with dread. Every drink has its day and we applaud that. The Pornstar Martini is enjoying its moment in the sun just as the Cosmopolitan, thanks to Sex and the City, did during the 00’s. Will these drinks stand the test of time? 100 years from now will people still be ordering them at the bar? We think not.

Shake all ingredients together with ice then fine strain into a chilled Martini glass. Serve with a shot glass of Champagne (or Prosecco) on the side.
One modern Martini we can get on board with, however, is the Espresso Martini. On the face of it, this drink is a mobile bartenders nightmare. Chilled glassware, coffee requirements and a double-strained drink, but we love it all the same. It’s popular no doubt. Fresh coffee used to be an essential element to get the silky crema topping, but with a good cold press coffee the results are the same. Music to the ears of the mobile bartender!
You may believe that sipping a Pornstar Martini will elevate you to the levels of Kim Kardashian, but we venture you’ll be better off enjoying a well made Manhattan from a chilled Nick & Nora any day of the week! The classics stand the test of time for a reason.
Our clients and their wishes come first. With a Mixology Brothers party, you are in complete control of your menu and our top to tail service allows our professional and talented mixologists to host your party wherever, whenever you like, but we urge you to consider the classics.
