TIPPLER’S TIME

BOE GIN

DARING TO BE DISTINCTIVE

In 1595, Franz de le Boë is widely cited as creating the world’s first gin. Also known as Professor Franciscus Sylvius, Franz was a chemist, alchemist and scholar who is believed to have created the first gin when searching for a medicinal tonic. He infused a clear grain spirit with oil extracted from hand-picked juniper berries to create a ‘medicine’, regarded as an ailment for illnesses including stomach complaints, gout and gallstones, which became known as genever, the French term for juniper. Named after the man who is thought to have started the gin craze, Boë Gin launched in 2008 with a small batch gin created in Scotland. Inspired by the original genever recipe, Boë is uniquely distilled using the old-fashioned Carterhead still system meaning the botanical vapours go through the liquid rather than being boiled within.

VIOLET GIN Forget pink gin, there’s been quite the buzz around violet gin this year.

D I S T I N C T I V E S M A L L-B AT C H SCOTTISH GIN

Now affectionately know as ‘Parma Violet gin’, the gin’s perfumed taste and vibrant purple colour is a throwback to the famed Swizzels Matlow sweets. The confectionary may have divided opinions, but it seems the gin is a winning combination, with the delicate flavour combination becoming one of the year’s hottest drinking trends. Launched in 2017, Boë’s Violet Gin infuses their Scottish Gin with violets creating a gin with sweet perfumed aroma and a berry-like sweetness with a light floral aftertaste. As featured in August’s Cocktail Club Box, Boë violet gin can be used alike Creme de Violette in cocktails, making the perfect addition to our twist on the Aviation!

TA S T I N G N O T E S Based on the original Genever recipe, Boë is created using 13 rare hand-picked botanicals and spices, including coriander, cardamom, cubeb berry and cassia bark. Boë’s Scottish Gin is clean, spiced and strikingly refreshing.
