HOPE...The Light in the Darkness By:Richard M. Haney, M.Ed., Ph.D.

S

ome of my clients have dubbed me “Doc Hopeful.” They

have done so because, when they are in very dark places, I often act as a Spiritual Guide to lead them to a Beacon of Light. When I recently did my genealogy, I discovered that almost all of my ancestors were seafaring folk. Many were sea captains and fishermen who had learned to navigate through stormy waters. They were also keenly aware of the locations of lighthouses and foghorns that could guide their way home.

Perhaps this is how I inherited my undaunted hopefulness?

Many people struggle in despair and hopelessness at the other end of the spectrum.

I attempt to reassure them that there is light at the end of the tunnel and, if they “keep the long view” and stay focused on the vision, there is some hope that they will ignite out into the light.

The movie “Invictus,” in which Morgan Freeman plays Nelson Mandela, is a depiction of this ability to muster the courage to trudge on through the darkness. Mandela is portrayed as a man of invincible and unassailable vision who persevered through nearly impossible obstacles to free ALL the people of South Africa from the terrible yolk of apartheid.

Another example is U.S. Presidential candidate John Kerry, whose slogan was, “Hope is on the way.” He was then followed by Barack Obama, whose slogan was, “Yes, we can.”

Hope springs Eternally from the Souls of such inspiring people.

Hopelessness was very well described by Alighieri Dante when he said of his Inferno (Hell), “All hope abandon, ye who enter here.” Many people live and act as if there are only two poles of hope: hopefulness and hopelessness. Consider that there is a whole spectrum of hope from 0% to 100%. It operates on a gradient from very little hope to lots of hope. If a person projects that there is little hope, then that will most likely be the outcome. If they project that only 5% of people succeed in a particular path, then they will probably wind up among the 95% who fail! Who says that they can't wind up in the 5% success group? Hope is letting go of the fear of failure on a given path.

He initiated a field called logo therapy, which essentially espouses that, “What you project is what you get.” One of the ways that he kept his hope alive was to completely plan a beautiful home for his family, which they built when he was liberated by the Allies! C.G. Jung, the psychologist, suggests that we “darken” and “lighten” our challenges by exercising choice. We can choose hope. We can choose to forgive ourselves for an emotional block. Hope is an emotion in the present tense. It is not in the future. By staying in the present and focusing on our vision, we can meaningfully thrive. Have you noticed how the light seems to go out in the eyes of a person who has given up on a goal, or mentally slipped away or is soon to die?

Hope is not the same as optimism. Optimism can lead to “false hope,” which is a hope built on fantasies and/or nearly impossible outcomes. Hope has the element of confidence that a possible outcome has, in reality, a good chance of actually manifesting.

Consider that hope requires specificity. For example, there is no such thing as a hopeless person! However, a particular person may be hopeless in a particular situation at a particular time. When we navigate through our days in a state of unconditional love, we can maintain our hope at the highest realistic level. Many roadblocks, traps and perceived limitations evaporate.

Many people look at uncertainty as a negative experience. It is true that it is not very comfortable. However, we can ratchet up our “uncertainty tolerance” while holding onto our hope.

Then out of the cloud of uncertainty, a higher vision will be born.

In this way, we are amply rewarded for our temporary discomfort. When we choose to face the uncertainty with courage and Buddha-like non-attachment, our flame of hope can burn brightly.

I hope that all your highest aspirations come to fruition!

Our Journey on Earth

Creating strong positive vibrations by: Lynne Cardinal

W

e each have a completely unique journey. During our journey on earth, we face challenges and learn to deal with them, to surmount them, or to let them go. If we look back at the past, we may be curious as to how it all happened. What is the origin of our impulses and choices?

We may all understand childhood factors and how our own history influenced us. But we can also look a little deeper: Why this family? Why this husband, wife or partner? We may even share similarities and personality traits with our brothers and sisters, and yet their lives are so different, we all made different choices. I want to honor these questions as they invite us to reflect and perhaps learn from our choices. I am currently writing a reflective philosophical autobiography, and in the process, I am discovering myself. I am amazed at my own impulses and how they led me on my journey. I can see that I had a strong desire to know the Truth. I most definitely had many questions early on. Questions like: Why am I here, what is my true purpose? Do I have a soul? What is the nature of existence? These questions kept resurfacing at different phases of my life. A question often brought up to me now by my clients is regarding one’s true purpose. This is enhanced by the fact that with the current pandemic, everything has slowed down, and we live at a time of uncertainty. Some no longer have the luxury of financial security, ‘busyness’, and role playing, at work or in their lives. Yet I see it as an opportunity to expand our level of awareness. There is an energy that is trying to evolve.

We may be involved in activism, or have projects inspiring us. This is part of the evolutionary wave currently present in the world. Yet from a deeper level, we can use this period of stillness, or isolation, to access our inner clarity and strength. Life has been given to us, and that gift of life has come from the mystery of life. But at times our purpose may not be obvious. As a wonderful teacher, professor and spiritual leader, Ravi Ravindra said: “Who bothered to make me? Why would anyone create me? There must be a reason, so I honor this gift of life.”

The forces of life made us. Some people call them celestial forces or the divine will. Something which is unexplainable from the level of our rational mind, created us. Our purpose isn’t obvious at times but we can honor this gift of life from beyond and honor that gift. Going deeper, honoring the subtle, or at times concrete, wish to evolve, is a fundamental purpose. I see that an introspective life, a life based on compassion, on the awareness of our unity with one and all, and on meditation, can help us create strong positive vibrations. This positive energy is good for us, for everyone, and for the universe.

However, this won’t happen by itself as it has to become a personal choice, a conscious purpose. Sitting in silence, in a meditative state daily takes me to a gentler, freer higher mind state. It opens a vista; from there I can see my essential self, ever free, and parallel to that my humanity, with all my feelings, relationships, hopes and ideas.

I can see that as human beings we all carry two levels of self.

Connecting to our Higher Self, helps us to share strong positive vibrations on earth. It helps us understand that the ego mind will never be satisfied on its own level. It is not about trying to honor and satisfying the sense of ‘me’. It is about compassion. Honoring the ones we love, and above all learning to love our own higher Self, for it is often forgotten. We can help each other’s and each step in this more positive, enlightened direction is extremely valuable. The earth needs us.

Ancient Wisdom by: Ian Prattis

S

hattered Earth: Approaching Extinction is my latest book. It is about the broken cycles of Climate Systems that place humanity in dire straits. It begins with a futuristic analysis of Climate Change and reveals how unready humanity is to encounter Climate Emergency. There are many global protest movements intended to motivate citizens, parliaments and industry to implement massive measures to ameliorate the impacts of Climate Emergency. However, powerful financial interests, the creators of Climate Change, will not allow their power and control to slip away. They are better organized than us and they control the wealth to usurp any coalition that threatens their power.

Is there a future for our beautiful children and grandchildren? The Marshall Plan strategy used after World War 11 required a global effort to implement it. Something similar needs to be applied to Climate Crisis in the 21st century. However, given the nature of political leaders at this time it seems highly unlikely that similar steps will be taken. The denial of Climate Emergency by Presidents in the USA, Brazil and other nations, leaves the world bereft.

The massive co-operation required to off-set the accelerating Climate Emergency has not appeared. What is left for us?

My long encounter with Ancient Wisdom enabled my heart and mind to expand. I absorbed the significance of the Earth Mother and saw clearly how humanity neglected the basic respect for all that sustains us. Indigenous cycles of harvesting the Earth were based on an ethic of planning seven generations into the future. Such an ethic is not found in modern society. Indigenous wisdom the world over knows that protecting the Earth is primary to care for ourselves and all species. The era of Climate Crisis and Extinction is not a surprise to them.

I was fortunate to encounter many First Nation story tellers across North America: Dene, Hopi, Ojibwa, Algonquin, Inuit – to mention a few. Their poetic recounting of myths and history had a deep impact on how I thought and wrote. I would say that without poetry, cultures implode. Through their mentoring, I learned how to reconfigure my understanding of time, place and consciousness. I chose to listen to the sacred feminine voice of Earth Wisdom rather than the multitude of competing voices in my deep unconscious.

My approach to life comes through experience, crises, difficulties and joys that may have common ground with many readers. I was gifted with mentors in the desert, training with sages in ashrams in India and the Ancient Wisdom of Indigenous cultures. My intensive training in different traditions enabled me to better understand the processes of transformation. There was a lot of mud in my seasons, yet that mud provided the necessary compost to cultivate surprisingly accurate insights. Thus, I was able to anticipate the hard core of Extinction by first of all developing Impermanence. And just why do I – do we – need all of this?

It is so we may emerge as the new leaders for the 21st century.

I introduce Sacred Stalker in Chapter 10 and in Chapter 11: Medicine Mentors- my indigenous education. Chapter 12: The Transfer Particle is a futuristic story about Hopi mysticism for a new planet. Chapter 13: The Forest provides a short, sharp finale about my intentions.

I

n 2015-2016 Timothy and his wife were faced with a difficult point in their life. His wife recognized that there was something wrong but didn’t know how to convey the message to Timothy about his situation. Over time she began to see the signs that he was suffering mentally and emotionally and began to push for him to seek help. Because of this, it meant he would need to take time off work and focus on himself to get better. However, he was reluctant because he was afraid to be labelled as “just quitting or taking advantage of short term leave.” After several discussions and some very hard pushing, she convinced him to take time off and get the help he needed.

After six months of hard work and self-discovery, they discovered that he suffered from a major depressive disorder. Now it meant he would need to open up to a stranger and ultimately take medication to improve the situation. Though Timothy was not a fan of this, he realized that through discussion with his wife and his soon to be son, that this was the only option. Fast forward to late 2019, Timothy again began to suffer and didn’t know what to do; however, this time, he had the tools, resources, and knowledge to be able to navigate the web and was able to recover.

At that point, he realized that all of these experiences cost a lot of time, effort, but most importantly, money and many people do not have that luxury. .” In 2020 he started an organization called the Serendipity Group, an NFP organization. Designed to help individuals and their families seek the treatment they need and not to be concerned with the cost of therapy. Making a difference within his community is extremely important and personal to him.

All Things Are Relative by: Diane Oliver

We, as a society, are being asked to take a stand on Black Lives Matter. Being of Indigenous descent, I say that ALL lives matter!

W

hereas we are upset with a white supremacist movement and police violence, it is important to remember that not all police officers are racists. Whereas in North America those police officers revealing themselves to be racist are white-skinned, what would you find in Africa or China or even among Native Americans? All skin-colours have racists and “bad apples.” The majority of all skin colours have wonderful, genuine, harmless, loving, kind people.

We are not born racist. It is taught in the home or through friends. It is also taught in history books that misrepresent life in the past. When I hear lobbyists, who state that they are not concerned with individual beliefs but only societal issues, I scratch my head. Who do we think makes up society if not individuals with their individual beliefs?

The cause behind racism, in my opinion, is “abuse of power on display.” Abuse of power is in political systems, families, schools - everywhere you go, there is someone who needs to be right at all cost and will do whatever it takes to make it so.

Once we start studying the ways of harmlessness and how to apply it to our hurt and broken self, change will happen more quickly. It’s time to call a truce on the past.

The more we look and delve into it, the more we bring it into the present. The more we bring it into the present, the more it repeats itself into the future. I have nothing but compassion for all of us who, in the past and even in the now, are subject to abuse of power – and I have heard all the stories that keep on repeating the drama. Once we have spoken our truth, and have been heard, is it not time to move on?

Fortunately, we are starting to demand that we are all One, no matter what the colour of our skin, our gender, our sexual orientation, our belief systems, et al.

Would you agree that we have become spiritually bankrupt as a society? Would you agree that we need to go back to the ancient wisdom of the Gnostics and Mystics?

One day I dared ask myself, what was life like before Christ? What was life like for those who never encountered Christ? Christ is representative of a consciousness that is universal, harmless and where equality for all exists. Are we ready to put down our self-righteousness, put a truce on all abuse of power, we ever imposed upon life and life has ever imposed upon us, and start anew?

I was grossly abused as a child, and without knowing, I was projecting abuse of power on most adults. One day it dawned on me that not everyone was abusive. On that day, I felt a weight come off my shoulders, and I could smile at people in general, without secretly wondering if they were going to hurt me. And do you know what happened?

People started being kinder to me because I was no longer out to prove myself right that all adults were abusers.

The injustices caused by abuse of power at all levels of life are offensive, oppressive and disgusting – but as long as we allow degrees of abuse of power, from mild abuse being acceptable to gross abuse being unacceptable, nothing will change. Abuse of power is abuse of power – whether it is hidden in deception in the hope to get away with it or whether it is blatantly obvious.

ne of the theories behind explaining the increase in allergies has to do with inflammation, the root of most diseases. The body responds in a certain way to an allergen because the immune system is in overdrive. When the body’s immune system is overworked and stressed, introducing an allergen sends the body into overreaction. (Dr. Josh Axe)

5) Eyes Your eye reflexology points are located on the undersides of your second and third toes. Use your thumbs to press and rub the area in an up and down motion. Rub the eye points from anywhere between 30 to 60 seconds on both feet.

Toxins enter our systems through what we eat (chemicals and preservatives in food and medications), what we breathe and what we touch (mold in the air, chemicals in cleaners, and beauty products, pesticides).

6) Lymph Drainage “The lymphatic system filters out organisms that cause disease, produces white blood cells, and generates disease-fighting antibodies. It also distributes fluids and nutrients in the body and drains excess fluids and protein so that tissues do not swell.” (RWJ University Hospital Hamilton)

Reflexology is about helping your body return to a state of balance so that it can better manage allergy symptoms.

1) Lungs The reflexology lung point is the first barrier of defense against the irritants that make you feel sick when they get inside your body. It is located on the ball of your foot, under the three middle toes. It is quite large and on both your left foot and your right foot. To massage this area, press deeply with your thumbs and massage using small circles. Move slowly across the lung area, for about 60 seconds per foot.

2) Sinus Massaging the sinus points helps to clear stuffiness. There are actually five reflexology points for the sinus on each of your feet, but focusing on the main reflexology point for the sinus gives you great results.

This point is located on the tip of your big toe on the pad of the toe (bottom of your toe). To massage this point, hold your toe with your forefinger and rub with your thumb (right hand for right foot and vice versa for the left side), for about 60 seconds for each foot.

3) Nose The Nose reflexology point is located on the edge of the big toe, on both feet. This point is for symptom relief, as your nose is not the root cause of mucous.Use your right hand for your left toe and left hand for your right toe.

Grasp and support the toe with your index finger and rub side to side with your thumb, rubbing from the toenail to the toe pad back and forth. Do this for 30 seconds for each foot.

To massage this drainage point, use the knuckle of your index finger to press and stroke the point. Place the knuckle at the base of the toes between the big toe and second toe, and then stroke down away from the toes and towards the point of the V where the two bones meet.

When you get to the bottom of the V, lift up your knuckle, reposition it at the base of the two toes and repeat the downward stroke. It’s very important to stroke in one direction only, away from the toes, because this correlates to the flow of lymph through your body.

ESSENTIAL OILS Basil essential oil reduces the inflammatory response of allergens Eucalyptus oil opens up the lungs and sinuses.

Lemon oil supports lymphatic system drainage and helps with overcoming respiratory conditions.

Tea Tree oil, diffused in the home will kill mold, bacteria and fungi. It is an antiseptic agent and it has anti-inflammatory properties.

4) Throat The throat reflexology point is located at the tip of the webbing between your big toe and second toe on both feet. Use the knuckle of your index finger to press into this point with a twisting motion. It’s important not to press too hard. The tops of your feet are much more sensitive than the soles of your feet. Twist in both directions for about 20 to 30 seconds depending on your symptoms. Repeat on your other foot.

A

s summer is here and fall is upon us, increasing of our activity level leads to back pain for many individuals. As we venture out into our yards to garden for the summer, hike, paddle board and are generally more active many people will over do it and unfortunately experience back pain.

•

Try not to sit at your desk for more than 45 mins straight without a “micro-break”.

•

When wearing shoes, try to wear ones with less than 2” heel.

•

Warm up for 10 minutes whenever possible before activity.

It is known that roughly 60-90% of individuals in Canada will suffer from some sort of back pain at some point in their lives. Back pain accounts for as much as 45% of lost time in the workplace. What is staggering is that of these individuals suffering from back pain, is that if the pain is left untreated or they do not receive any therapy, this pain has a 90% recurrence rate. This is where interventions such as physiotherapy, chiropractic, massage therapy and a good back rehabilitation program can be of benefit to stop this pain from recurring, to help give pain relief, and allow individuals to get back to work and to their life activities.

When might I need therapy?

You may benefit from Physiotherapy, Chiropractic and/or Massage Therapy for your back pain if you have any of the above mentioned symptoms and your back pain is not getting better after 1-2 weeks. At this point in time you may want to consult your doctor and let them know about the pain you are experiencing and see if they recommend that you start your therapeutic process.

There is hope!!!

What can cause low back injuries or pain?

Many things can cause low back injuries or pain and these include: muscle strains or spasm, sprains of ligaments, joint problems or a "slipped disc”. Contrary to popular belief the disc does not slip but rather bulges.

The most common cause of low back pain is using your back muscles in activities or ways that you’re not used to, like lifting heavy furniture, playing basketball, snow shovelling, doing yard work and even can happen bending over to tie up your shoe.

A slipped disc (medically know as a disc bulge) happens when the disc between the bones bulges and presses on nerves. This is often caused by twisting and bending while lifting. This pain can be felt down one or both of the legs and is commonly known as “sciatica”. Back pain can also follow normal activities such as bending over the sink to brush your teeth. This pain may be made worse by stress, long periods of inactivity or being in an unusual position for a long time. If you are experiencing back pain be sure to monitor your symptoms.

Call your doctor or seek medical help (physiotherapist/chiropractor or a massage therapist) if: •

Pain goes down your leg below your knee.

•

Your leg, foot, groin or rectal area feels numb.

•

Your pain was caused by an injury.

•

Your pain is so intense you can’t move around.

•

Your pain doesn’t seem to be getting better after two to three weeks.

After your doctor has given you the green light to start therapy, be sure to contact a reputable therapist to help you get rid of your back pain.

Physiotherapy and Chiropractic care has been shown to be effective in reducing both the discomfort of back pain and the recurrence of this pain.

Massage therapy also has been shown to improve low back pain outcomes as well as help to reduce stress and tension in the area.

The rehabilitation program outlined by the therapist is aimed at reducing the muscle spasms, correcting posture as well as strengthening the weak muscles that are at fault. This integrated approach is paramount to getting individuals back to their wellness and activities that they enjoy.

This is done with a multitude of techniques varying from: exercise therapy, mobilizations,manipulations, acupuncture, Dry Needling, or the Graston Technique.

If you have back pain, or any pain for that matter, do yourself a favour and get the therapy you need so that you can begin your journey to improved wellness and health. Together with the right therapist and rehab program, we can say “Goodbye” to that stubborn back pain and say hello to a Happier, Healthier Tomorrow!!

Tips for preventing back strain and pain: •

Don’t lift by bending over.

•

Lift an object by bending your hips and knees and then squatting to pick up the object.

•

Keep your back straight and hold the object close to your body.

•

Avoid twisting your body while lifting.

•

Push rather than pull when you must move heavy objects.

•

When starting an exercise program, start slowly with a gradual build up.

In a 2017 research in the UK by Dove, it was found that 61% of 10-17-year-old girls in the UK have low self-esteem Self-esteem is an area that can affect so many different areas of an individual life.

From sports professionals to teenagers, weight issues to addictions, self esteem can lie beneath many of the issues that I work with as a Hypnotherapist.

We all have times when we lack confidence and do not feel good about ourselves.

But when low self-esteem becomes a long-term problem, it can have a harmful effect on our mental health and our day-to-day lives.

Self-esteem is the opinion we have of ourselves.

Self-esteem is an individual's subjective evaluation of their own worth.

Synonyms or near-synonyms of self-esteem include: self-worth, self-regard, self-respect, and self-integrity.

When we have healthy self-esteem, we tend to feel positive about ourselves and about life in general.

It makes us better able to deal with life's ups and downs.

When our self-esteem is low, we tend to see ourselves and our life in a more negative and critical light.

We also feel less able to take on the challenges that life throws at us.

I have seen it perhaps most frequently in the teenagers of today, whether that is due to the impact of social media, or differing parenting skills and upbringings; I have seen at first hand how that sense of self-worth can change everything.

Some of the signs of low self-esteem can be • Sensitivity to criticism • Social withdrawal • Hostility

• Excessive preoccupation with personal problems • Physical symptoms such as fatigue, insomnia and headaches Low self-esteem is a self-fulling prophecy.

Introduction to Unity: The Power of Zeal

In Unity, we believe that God (the Divine, the Source, etc.) is within, always present. God has twelve recognizable attributes or powers that are also ours by virtue of our oneness with God. This article is about one of those twelve Powers, Zeal, the power of “intensity, ardour, enthusiasm, the inward fire of the soul that urges human kind onward” (Unity co-founder, Charles Filmore).

We are grateful to Linda Martella-Whitsett’s book, Divine Audacity, for much of this material.

Spiritual Zeal is the harnessing of enthusiasm to propel us into purposeful living, an attitude of forwardness and courage. Zeal is a single-minded devotion to one’s purpose. If you can recall a time, perhaps from your childhood, in which you were so engrossed in an activity that time just flew by, you were likely expressing the power of Zeal.

Humans want to feel alive, engaged, passionate. But, a word of caution: frenetic energy or exuberance are not necessarily expressing Zeal. These are “wasted energy, flowing out in turbulent emotions. Zeal, on the other hand, is directed energy, focused on an ideal to be realized” (Martella-Whitsett).

Zeal is our rightful power of enthusiasm, audacity and devotion:

It is audacity that keeps us from crumbling under the weight of the troubles that befall us.

Devotion: is our capacity for wholehearted, single-minded attention, our intensity, the fire in our belly. Devotion fulfils the law of mind which states that where thought goes, energy flows.

In a much-quoted statement, Charles Fillmore asserted “I fairly sizzle with Zeal and enthusiasm and spring forth with a mighty faith to do the things that are to be done by me today!” What makes you “sizzle with Zeal”? What are the things to be done by you today? If Zeal is an inner flame, what lights the fire in your belly?

Dr. Norman Vincent Peale, in The Positive Principle Today, recommends:

Think excitement, talk excitement, act out your excitement, and you are bound to become an excited person. Life will take on a new zest, deeper interest and greater meaning. You can think, talk and act yourself into dullness, monotony or unhappiness ... (or) you can build up inspiration, excitement and surging depths of joy.”

Enthusiasm: this is our eagerness for life, our interest in and our optimism about our intentions and our plans. People living with enthusiastic Zeal seem bright (full of light), energetic, zestful and exuberant.

Audacity: is our power source for moving forward in the direction of fulfillment and beyond the bounds of perceived limitations, the quality of boldness and forwardness.

I Respect You to Be Responsible for Yourself

I

t isn’t helpful to say to someone, “I will be responsible for you”. To truly help someone, you let them be responsible for themselves and make their own choices. Each person is sovereign and can only be responsible for themselves. Yet, this is often misunderstood, and that distortion is being leveraged right now, when everyone, healthy or unhealthy, is being mandated to wear a mask for the protection and safety of all as social responsibility. It’s a message that’s been put forward amidst many other deceptions, to serve a larger agenda of control. Be cautious. There’s a war on for your consciousness. Claim it.

To be self-responsible means that you’re willing and open to observing what’s within your own consciousness and making choices about that. What are your thoughts and emotions? Do they take you in the direction of your inner peace or do they take away from your life force?

The controllers would rather we remain automatons and comply with the lockdown, mandatory masks, and behavioural programming without questions. The higher purpose they can serve though, is to confront each person with powerful choices.

You can look at what’s being stirred in your mind and your heart, what feels true and what feels false, and what is triggering the past and needs to be released. Only with self-responsibility can your consciousness expand through this experience.

It would seem that only if you don’t comply, will you suffer some consequence. If you’re a business owner, you may fear fines or losing customers or putting others in jeopardy. You may not want to suffer the social shaming or feel alienated. For many people on a conscious path, especially of Indigos/Starseeds, being ostracized is a painful memory. The controllers know this.

The controllers are watching their social experiment – how will humanity respond?

If this was all unfolding in full disclosure and transparency, it would feel quite different. But many people know that it’s notsomething feels not quite right. Humanity is not making choices from informed consent. If you listen carefully to some authorities outside of you, you’ll hear inconsistency, find lack of integrity, and witness conflicts of interest. Our history is filled with deception and so is now. It’s just becoming more visible. This is why it’s important to build your own inner stability through self-responsibility and know your truth.

There’s a consequence to being denied your power to choose.

There’s consequence to remaining silent when your freedoms are being taken away. There are consequences to your inner child who has been waiting for you to pay attention and heal him/her with unconditional self-love, from your inner God-Self. So be selfresponsible, take care of you, and know that your only authority is God. Love, honour and cherish those you love. It matters. But let’s respect and uphold the right of each person to claim their consciousness.

Of course, for some people, whose health leaves them feeling vulnerable to any virus, mandatory masks for all and the quarantine measures give them an increased sense of safety and protection.

The controllers know this too. Ultimately though, these people are responsible for their own self-care choices.

To others, wearing a mask feels highly uncomfortable, and can be especially harming as it triggers trauma in the body. If forced, your inner child may feel like it’s another experience of being abused or ignored. God knows every human holds cellular memory of multiple and massive traumas. Wearing a mask then does not feel safe and creates more trauma. That’s what the controllers want. Selfsupportive choice is necessary here too.

The co-ops in Peru create exquisite products from native alpaca fibres – and shipping to us starts out as a mule train! Paper bead jewellery from Uganda offers dignified employment for former child soldiers.

How is this all possible? One Earth works in direct partnerships on a fair trade basis with artisans to develop and support their businesses. Year long contracts ensure sustainability. We have managed to keep active during the pandemic, particularly due to our on-line presence. For example our partners in Guatemala and Thailand have converted to making masks for One Earth while distancing in their own countries. One Earth has converted some of the inhouse Argan Oil Apoth Spa to production of sanitizing lotion.

Before One Earth, in a village, high in the Andes of Peru,only 4% of the children went to school. Now, with increased incomes, 100% of the children attend!

In Morocco, with the construction of new schools, many more children have the opportunity of daily education, something we take for granted. From China, with hand blown glassware, funds go back to water treatment in their community. The company has grown, now representing eleven countries around the world.

Recent changes have been the commitment to making the business a plastic free one, and in November 2019 One Earth became a Certified Living Wage employer, for Canadian employees, as well as international partners. Think of our fair trade coffee farmers!

“Who Wants Healthy and Younger Looking Skin?” by: Terry Black “I do!” At least that’s how I answered the question when a friend asked me! Just

before COVID-19 hit, a friend contacted me again, sharing her business opportunity.

Darlene had reached out to me many times over the past 30 years sharing her business opportunity with me. S.M.A.C.K... The secret to an ageless brain! by: Penny Lee Prevost

T

oday one of the major health concerns for many is losing brain function as we age. Recent neuroscientists' studies have discovered that changing your ageing brain is as simple as a child's play.

I remember as a child, and I always enjoyed spending time outside with my friends after school. Playing hopscotch, hide and seek, skipping rope, tag, dodgeball, riding my bicycle and many more activities that required movement of some kind. As I got older, I chose to pursue team sports because I liked working together towards a common goal with a group of people, so I played volleyball, basketball, ringette and baseball. However, my all-time favorite activity was dancing, especially in the rain. All these activities were opportunities for my brain to communicate with my body to create neuropathways that allowed my body to get from point A to point B in a variety of ways. Learning through trial and error allowed my brain to exercise the five main functions it was meant to do.

Scientists today believe that the primary purpose of the brain is to control the physical movement of the body and not the ability to fill the brain with loads of information from books or Googling!

Let's take a look at our brain's five main functions with dancing, for example.

trategic planning - what do you want to do? ......to show off with big show jazz moves, or contemporary moves that ebb and flow or perhaps modern dance moves like twerking and popping?

emory and recall - how it feels to do or what do you know about it already or have seen?....having a series of steps to repeat in order like a cha-cha-cha or the electric slide or the hustle that we have all seen John Travolta do in Saturday Night Fever.

reativity and imagination - can you imagine doing an activity in a new and different way...creating scenarios that allow the body to produce the results. Try dancing in a chair!

inesthetic learning - how many times does it take to learn a routine...all depends on how quickly the brain learns from the previous errors! Trial and error is the key to creating new neuropathways.

hen we talk about performance, we must ask the question, “Why do some people perform better and have more good things happen to them than others”? One might argue that they know more about the Law of Attraction or have more help in getting started. Regardless of what the answer is, it all boils down to what you expect out of life. You must be very clear about what it is in life you want. Simply wanting more money or a relationship is not specific enough, and if too many things are self-serving, it will not work out the same way. There needs to be a sense of balance of receiving and serving others.

Feng Shui has been used for centuries to bring in this sense of balance into the home. Your home is a visual and energetic diary of what your life is going through and where it is headed.

The more chaos you have in your home, the more rushed and confusing your life will become. Once you have a feeling and understanding of how to “read” the signs within your home, you will feel you have more control on what type of good fortune comes in.

Consider for a moment what was present before your home was built. You would have found grass, rocks, flowers, rabbits, etc., In other words, nature. Then one day, a bulldozer appeared to dig a hole and erected four walls in the ground. Your home is essentially an unnatural entity of nature. When the elements of Feng Shui are applied, it is essentially reintroducing nature back into the home to energetically improve the life of the people living there. Using Feng Shui is like programming your home to only attract those things in your life you want. This is why you see so many water fountains, wind chimes, healthy-looking plants and clean, uncluttered areas in a well Feng Shui’d home.

In Feng Shui, you can enhance any area of your life based on the floor plan of your home. When a problem arises in your life, you can go to the exact section of your home, find the problem and adjust the issue by moving or enhancing that area and soon after may see the improved result. In short, your home is like acupuncture for most of your problems in life.

The theory is that our homes are a mirror of what is happening inside us, suggesting that we need to pay close attention to our home’s natural surroundings right down to its furnishings and decor to achieve harmony in all aspects of one’s life. Feng Shui practitioners believe that everything (and everyone) has a certain energy, or “chi,” and how we arrange those objects could potentially affect an aspect of our lives, including specific areas of concern, from health and wealth to careers and relationships.

Feng Shui practitioners can help you achieve the optimal arrangement quickly for the items in your home so you can reap the ultimate rewards of shifting that energy. Everything and every time you move or add anything to your space state clearly to yourself why you’re doing it. This will give purpose to the energy and direction to the house on your expectations.

Your home is divided into 9 equal segments, which include Wealth, Reputation, Love, Creativity, Helpful People, Career, Knowledge, Family and Health. If there is anything that dead or dying in these areas, it will eventually affect your life in some way. A crumbing tile wall in the Love area may indicate a crumbling marriage or deteriorating relations with your customers. In Feng Shui, you need to temporarily forget your old Belief System and look at things in a different way. You need to look at your home with a new set of eyes.

What About Goals Without an Obvious To-Do List? by: Heather Elliott Have you ever wanted to change something about yourself but struggled because you weren’t sure how to get started or mark your progress?

I certainly have!

Around the New Year, I decided that I want to be a more loving person. As a species, I feel like it’s one of the most important things we can do. But “more loving” is hard to quantify in a way that makes it easy to set up a to-do list and check my progress.

Being more loving is a great goal, but it’s too broad of a category to approach all at once. I needed to find a weak area I could turn into a first step.

So, what’s the answer?

My first step was to be more aware of myself so I could identify the aspects that were less loving than desired.

I did that by asking myself what mental programs and reactive habits influence how loving I am—the judge, the victim, fear, meanness when I’m cornered, anger, jealousy, defensiveness, insecurity, or something else?

I found that there were a few areas where I wanted to change my behavior. A lot of different things go into being more loving and keeping track of all of them would be a logistical nightmare. Going after all of them at once simply wouldn’t work.

Instead, I went after a proven technique when it comes to goal-setting and long-lasting change. I prioritized and focused on only 1 or 2 things. (When there is satisfactory progress with those areas, I can come back and pick 1 to 2 more.)

How do you know if you’re making progress?

Once I picked my priorities, I needed a way to mark my progress. Changing the quality of my life by being more loving isn’t like weight loss where my clothes feel looser if my efforts are effective.

I couldn’t come up with a weekly marker, so I decided to take a daily inventory. Each night, I went through my day, evaluated how many times I followed through with my priorities and how many times I didn’t.

For the times I didn’t, I pictured doing things differently so that my actions were more loving. When I’m in similar situations in the future, I’ll have already thought about a different behavior I can choose.

My goal is to have my daily inventory show improvement via more times of following through and fewer moments of not.

In Summary If you’re having trouble starting because you aren’t sure how to quantify a goal into a to-do list: 1.

If your goal is too hard to quantify, it’s most likely because there are multiple components to it. The first step is to become aware of those components.

2.

Pick 1-2 areas/components that are a priority for you to work on, and come back to the others later (never working on more than 1-2 at a time).

3.

Define a way to mark your progress. If weekly markers are too challenging, consider taking a daily inventory.

4.

Mentally find a more positive solution for the times you don’t meet your goal. This practice will help you next time you’re in a similar situation.

Community, Change and Choice by: Liz M Raymond

C

hange always happens. Like it or not, change is constant.

Like the seasons change, so do the seasons of our lives. They can represent new beginnings and celebrations, like when flowers bloom in the spring or when the leaves change from green to a beautiful display of yellow, orange and red in the fall! The seasons of life can come in the form of a graduation, wedding or even the birth of a new baby.

My first positive step forward was making that decision!

Then I needed to figure out what was next. With the help of a friend I said YES to a weekend workshop that presented me with questions, strategies and a path to begin my journey of positive change. Committing to participate in the additional training and implementing the strategies every day have proven to be life changing in all areas of my life.

Then we have the seasons that bring darkness and dreary weather that make us want to hibernate and retreat from the elements. Events like relationship changes, children growing up and moving away and death can show up as these darker seasons in our lives. The confusion, stress and challenges of these darker seasons can set us on a spiral to a place that can be a struggle to come back from.

Change isn’t always easy, but it is doable. Reaching out, taking steps that allow you to cross that bridge of hope to a life of beautiful seasons, is an act of courage that can bring experiences beyond your expectations. One of the dark seasons in my life that set me on my spiral to a feeling of hopelessness came in the form of a relationship breakup, followed by bankruptcy and a landlord that made it clear I wasn’t welcome without my partner.

Then one day I was driving down the highway with no destination in mind, as the tears were streaming down my face and I watched the mile markers fly by, a switch flipped. At that moment I decided I was done crying over the “guy” and was ready to create a different life. I was ready to change “it”.
