FOREVER FRIENDS (PART II) by: Richard Haney

There are Golden Threads that run through our lives and we deeply experience this treasure trove when we share cherished memorable times with our heart-connected friends. To have a friend we need to be a friend and it seems imperative that our “best friend” be our Self.

Friends nourish our Spirit. Friends are Kindred Spirits. Friends are like angels guiding us through the doldrums and the storms of life.

Without friends life seems bleak and meaningless.

Aristotle said that a truly deep friendship is what we experience when a single Soul abides in two bodies. Perhaps a deepening Forever Friendship is a prerequisite for evolving Sacred Soul Mates. As the Forever Friends' history of trust and loyalty strengthens they are then eligible to share Sacred Space.

One truly deep Forever Friendship can usually be much more Spiritually enriching than dozens of relatively surface family relationships. This does not preclude a family member from being a Forever Friend. For those that do not have a family it is urgent that they develop Forever Friends. Many folks these days have hundreds of so-called “friends” on Internet social networks and yet they do not have even one single Forever Friend. Social networking is like a cocktail party... lots and lots of interactions with almost no heart-connected emotional substance. Many folks confuse the concept of acquaintance with that of friend. Robert Burns' gorgeous poem Auld Lang Syne powerfully addresses the stark difference between an acquaintance and a Forever Friend. This is probably why this poem evokes such amazingly deep emotions in people.

About 10 years ago, I conducted 3 or 4 Friendship Workshops through my private counselling practice. In these workshops we shared “heart-to-heart” about our experiences, struggles, successes and failures in developing friendships. During these sharing sessions, we isolated and defined many of the characteristics of deeper friendships. Here are some of them: a. Friends emotionally “listen” to what each other shares and to what the other DOES NOT share. b. Friends can confide without fear of a breach of confidentiality. c.

Friendships need to be “full-time” and responsibly maintained. d. Friendships are supportive during times of misfortune. e. Friends encourage each other to grow emotionally. f. Real friendships can never end. Every “good-bye” is a “hello”. g. Real friendships don't end with death. h. Real friends are non-judgmental and non-critical.

I. Friends are sensitive to and respect emotional boundaries. j. Friendships never run completely smoothly. Conflicts need to be authentically and genuinely resolved as they arise. k. The deeper the friendship the higher the probability of hurt. l.

A successful life can be defined as one with a good number of rich and deep friendships. m. Real friendship is not a “dress rehearsal”. It is truly real now.

During our Friendship Workshops, many men talked about how extremely difficult it was to find and maintain even one good friendship with another male. On the other hand, many women talked about how they had two, three or more close female friends. This seems to be a very deep-rooted anthropological issue rather than some failing in the male Psyche. Perhaps it means that males need to be much more vigilant in honing their skills at accessing, maintaining and evolving true friendships with other males.

myself frequently and still do. It enables me to improve many areas of my life and it has done so throughout my life.

I believe in the idea that there is still so much to discover and know about ourselves, our mind and spirit, and that evolution and growth may just be endless. I find this enticing and extremely positive. I absolutely find hypnosis to be helpful in this regard.

During our sessions, we look at your aims, and the process itself helps enhance your commitment and to move in the direction of your goals.

We all look for ways to feel happy. Whether it be by food, exercise, sociWe go through life led by impulses and preferences that are uniquely our own. I was just talking with a good friend who is very fond of travelling; she always felt drawn to travelling, and spent many weeks doing so throughout her life. I have travelled myself but as I shared with her, my preferences and predilections have always been towards the exploration of personal growth, towards expanding my mind through various philosophical approaches and most importantly through meditation. The latter enables a direct experience of deep perspectives and was transformative to me. I told her that perhaps this inner exploration is a type of inner travel. We do share numerous other interests, but it was interesting to see her light up at the thought of travelling.

I respect each of our unique intentions and desires, and I see value in exploring this subject. Our intentions are behind all we do. They rest in the field of our own preferences. If we can pause together to explore what our deepest intentions are, we can discover much about ourselves. Doing so makes our mind clear.

It is helpful to achieve our deepest most important and unique purposes.

Taking care of ourselves, honoring ourselves, discovering ourselves is the path to fulfillment. It is good for us, but it also simultaneously becomes an inspiration to others. If you need a hand on this path, it will be my pleasure to guide you on your journey. It is a personal journey, yet in my experience we can help each other’s on the way. This speeds up the process and as such it is more satisfying.

Lynne Cardinal is a coach, mentor and guide. She currently sees clients individually via Zoom or Skype. She also offers group classes and workshops. She holds numerous certifications in Hypnosis. Knowledge is useful, as it is difficult to move forward without it. Knowledge helps us address our tendencies, how we may be blocking ourselves, and to work on them so that we can finally see a path open up in front of us. I have done so

INSANITY ON THE SEA

Roddy was now grinning from ear to ear.

“We’ll not be taking your money, Ian. Everyone is relieved you made it back safely from Eriskay. There’s already a line of whisky shots for you and Callum from your friends here.”

Indeed there was – a long row of full whisky glasses.

Callum told and retold the story of the day’s journey on An Dhoran – each time more elaborate than the previous telling. I did not listen. My hands shook as I picked up the first glass of whisky, yet my mind was still and cold. The silence inside told me it was not I who brought the boat home safely. At closing time, I thanked Roddy for allowing Callum his night of storytelling and walked over to the table where he was taking the voyage into mythological realms. Perhaps that is where it belongs. Callum still had a full glass of whisky in front of him.

“Time to go Callum, maybe you don’t need that final shot.”

“Indeed I do,” he replied with as much dignity as he could muster: “I could be dead tomorrow, so there’s no point in leaving it sitting here - is there now.”

I started to navigate down the east coast of Barra. The storm quickly blew up to gale force winds and the rolling black fog made visibility difficult. There was no place to shelter on the east coast of the island. The fierce sea conditions in The Minch, the stretch of water separating the islands from the mainland of Scotland force me to stay inshore to the east coast of the island as much as possible. Ocean swells broke over the prow of my boat, sending sharp spray into my face. Striking like pellets from a shotgun. I shielded my face with one arm to better see the wave upon wave of huge swells. I manoeuvred An Dhoran so she was at an angle to the waves and could crest over the swells rather than be battered to pieces. My 11 year old son used the boat hook to fend off the dinghy from smashing into the stern of the boat. Disaster loomed from every option available to my mind. I entered a terrible, cold silence, braced at the wheel of this small craft. There was no mind there, nothing calculating and measuring. Just instinct intuitive awareness of danger in this moment to danger in the next moment.

I took An Dhoran through a narrow gap in an offshore rock spur, catching a swell as it crested through the gap; spinning the wheel hard to port to avoid the ragged edge of another rock ledge; swiftly spinning the wheel to starboard to find a more sheltered stretch of sea to get this boat home.

I did not have that knowledge. I did not have that skill. This was not something learned from Master Mariner Callum McAuley. It was beyond my capabilities – until that moment when my mind did not operate. There was no fear, no elation – just a seamless connection to a furious sea. The four frightened tourists sat inside for ballast at the front end of the boat as the sea smashed the creaking clinker boards.

The brightly lit houses on the shoreline held my navigation, while something else took over the wheel.

Later, as we limped slowly into the sheltered harbour of Castlebay after dark, Gaisma, the mother of my children was there to gather Iain and take him home. She had monitored the progress of the voyage through phone calls from households that spotted our small vessel. The last call that we were rounding the tip of Barra brought her to the dock at Castlebay harbour with blankets for my son and a fierce glare at me. We were not on good terms. The passengers disembarked with great relief.

I moored An Dhoran at her berth in the bay next to the Castle. The wind was dropping and the fog began to clear. Callum and I rowed to shore in the dinghy and then with ropes pulled it back to its mooring place. It sat there gently bobbing across from the Post Office and the small boat pier. Callum had been totally silent throughout the journey, which was most unlike him. He had been watching me. Callum McAuley, Master Mariner, said to me in a shaky voice, “Ian boy, I don’t know how the hell you did that.

In all my years I have never seen anything like it.”

“Callum, I don’t know about that either,” I replied in a hoarse, bewildered whisper.

With the money from the passengers in my pocket, I beckoned to Callum to come with me.

“Callum, you’re coming with me to the Castlebay Bar.” Callum shook his head and reminded me that he had been banned from the bar for twenty years now.

“Not tonight,” I grimly said.

I remember that he looked at me with a touch of both fear and amazement. We walked up the hill to the Castlebay Bar. Callum was reluctant to step inside and as soon as he did, the bartender came over to throw him out.

“Roddy, he’s with me tonight,” I said. There was something steely in my voice that immediately caught Roddy’s attention. He paused for a moment. He had already heard about our journey from Eriskay. News travels fast on the island. Roddy looked from Callum to me and then reluctantly nodded his consent. Callum was quickly surrounded by his seafaring friends eager to hear the story. I walked over to the bar and placed two ten pound notes on the counter. The sum total of my earnings from a day of insanity on the sea.

“Roddy, this will cover Callum and me.”

He downed it and I helped him out of his chair and walked him home to the small cottage in Leidag he shared with his sister Morag. He was singing and fell over a few times, stopping to tell me the story of the voyage as though I did not know the details of it. I delivered him to his cottage and coaxed him into his comfortable armchair. He promptly fell asleep.

I walked home to my home in Barra, overlooking the bay and the Sound of Vatersay. I could see the Castle and the islands to the south - shrouded by a soft light from the quarter moon in a clear sky.

It was calm and peaceful. Sitting on the steps of my house, I went over in my mind this day on the sea that could have ended up in disaster and loss of life. The reflections yielded ugly truths.

I thought of the long line of whiskies on the bar celebrating our return. There was nothing to celebrate. A rebuke was needed for my recklessness in endangering the lives of others, including my first born son. I could take no credit for bringing An Dhoran to rest safely in Castlebay harbour. I thought of the sea as a piercing, dirty grey – the color of dying. It was the hue of an angry sea that could make corpses of us all. I also saw that I was not in the right place internally, or location wise or in the right relationship. I had obscured this confession to myself with blind recklessness. But the shrouds fell away that evening. For an instant I could see clearly just what I had become.

I was no heroic captain at the wheel, just stupid, reckless and displaced I had to end the madness on the sea and sell my beautiful boat. This was not my domain in life. This island was not where I was to be. The stressful drain on time and energy to travel back and forth between Canada and the Isle of Barra was debilitating. It left me with zero life force energy for the work I was destined to touch. I paid little attention to global events, merely surviving ‘midst the misery and suffering of being misplaced, pretending to know the culture and be an advocate of all things Highland in Scotland. This was not me.

It was just a front that could not even save a failing marriage. So down I went into the graceless oblivion that alcohol and depression permits.

I let myself into the house. I looked in on Iain. He was fast asleep. I stood in the doorway of his bedroom, listening to his soft, young breaths, thankful he was safe and alive. I stretched out on the large sofa in the kitchen. My border collie crept over and joined me on the sofa resting his chin on my chest to provide comfort and solace. I had no answers to how we had gotten home safely. What I did know, was that I had to change the course of my life and emerge from the swamp I had created for myself.

WORKING FROM HOME

company is losing money prior to allocating the home office costs, these expenses cannot be used and had to be saved to when you have a profit.

This article is primarily meant for the people who are running businesses from their home. It is not meant to apply to individuals who are working at home because of the pandemic. The latter can temporarily deduct a set amount from their taxes because of working from their residence. The following table illustrates an example of Home Office expenses and how the carry forward works.

This article is meant for people who are self-employed and work from their house. To qualify, you need to experience a combination of the following 2 conditions: 1. you receive customers, tradespeople, and other visitors in your house.

2. You have no other office to go to. If you do, CRA will take the position that you do not qualify to have home-office expenses. However, there has been good examples of people that have been able to write off their home-office expenses and CRA looks at this on a per case basis.

Self-employed individuals can usually deduct a wider range of home office expenses than is the case for employees and commission salespeople. The expenses that self-employed individuals can deduct vary and they include the following: • mortgage interest • repair and maintenance • property taxes • utilities • security costs A proportion of the above costs are taken as a business expense. This proportion is based on the ratio between personal and business usage. It is customary to express this in square footage terms. For example, if you live in a 2100 square footage house and you estimate that you are using 420 square feet for business, you can calculate this as a ratio of 420/2100, or 20%.

Everybody is different and we all live in different houses. The ratio expressed above would vary from individual to individual. A word of caution however, the CRA Will find it difficult to believe that a business can occupy more than one-third of the individual’s house. In that case, they will demand that you show them a floor plan of your house and details on how your business operates in it.

In addition, the above costs cannot create a loss. To be able to use the home office expenses, the business must be profitable. You can only use these expenses to minimize your profit, or to bring it to 0 (zero). If your

Awakening the Truth Within for Sacred, Inner Balance

To open that aperture you can simply ask yourself: • “How have I been deceiving myself?”

• “What lies have I told myself to keep myself comfortable? “ • “How have I pushed aside what I truly need to see in order to embody the Christed Self within me?”

It’s worth taking the time to ask these questions - in meditation, over and over again. This is a way of consciously participating with your growth and moving forward.

If you were to take a snapshot right now of what’s taking place in the outer reality, you would see that the majority of people are looking through a lens that’s shattered by falsity.

They’re seeing one version of a reality but it’s not the only version. For many, that reality is filled with doubts and fears that supersede the truth of the core of who they are. While it isn’t easy to access this true self if the lies are so compounded that you can’t even know there is another reality, it’s possible to open the aperture to the degree that some Light will get in – some presence will be made known that no longer fits the narrative to which they are accustomed.

In such instances this opening is an opportunity for individuals to know themselves more deeply. To venture a bit into another version of the self that is more than capable of seeing truth. So what would it take to open that aperture? It would take a jarring realization. A signal that something extraordinary, or at the least different, is afoot. It would imply, however, that this person is looking and sufficiently aware to notice. While that’s not always the case, if you add up enough of those anomalies, the individual will start to see a pattern that something is not making sense. It’s not just one small thing. It’s either one big thing that is so obviously out of place, or a series of small things that add up to one big thing.

To ask these questions is to show willingness to see what you didn’t want to see, and that you intend to be the witness to the truth on Earth and the corruption of that truth. To crack open the aperture means you can’t turn back on what you now know.

It also means that you’re honouring the gift of your free will consciousness to live your potential to the fullest. It’s a choice for the new free Earth that many people so eagerly wish to experience. Embrace this inquiry and just see what unfolds. Be willing.

Why does this matter? Because in today’s dark night of the soul we have the opportunity to create those openings - not for other people. For ourselves. Meaning we can ask for those opportunities to break the spell that we’ve been under. For many this is a frightening proposition because it means confronting something that you thought was okay, safe, and all locked up in understanding. Instead, the risk is that what you find is actually going to topple the reality you know. It will wake up the conscious mind to question what was.

In our evolution right now we have to being willing to do this. Otherwise we stay stagnant at a time when the greatest opportunity for consciousness expansion is upon us. It’s not the

What’s Love Got to Do With it?

Isn’t love a ubiquitous word? ‘I love my dog.’ ‘I love that dress.’ ‘I love ice-cream.’ ‘I loved that movie.’ ‘I love to play tennis.’ ‘I love you.’ ‘I fell in love.’ There may not be another word in the English language that is used in so many different ways with such different a variety of contexts. As we reflect on Valentine’s Day last month, let’s examine the meaning of love as a spiritual power or ability.

In seeking to harmonize, the power of love is like a bridge. It connects, and seeks unity. When we love someone, for example we want to be together. We feel a sense of unity when we are with each other. Love is the bridge that gets us there. When we love something, we want to interact with it — be it a sport, a hobby, or an interest. Love is the bridge that gets us there. When we want to forgive, love is the bridge. Love is a sense of wanting unity/Oneness, a desire for things to come together and be ONE. This desire originates from the Universe’s invisible, unspeakable, indescribable energy that wants things to be in singularity, in Oneness, in harmony. A Oneness of all things because that’s what God is. The energy that’s creating this harmony is Love.

During this time in which there are ample occasion and situations that could divide us, let’s choose instead to activate our power of Love, to travel the bridge to Oneness. You can choose in any moment to bring into physical manifestation and expression the love that you already are.

In Unity, we teach that, as spiritual beings having a human experience, we are born with divine qualities, lights or powers. Together, they comprise our “beingness.”

Love is one of these lights, as are wisdom, imagination, faith and understanding, to mention but a few more. Each of these in-dwelling abilities is a force that, when activated and embodied, has certain qualities.

As a spiritual power, Love is not a feeling but rather a harmonizing agent. It is the ability that allows us to know when something is out of alignment and do what is ours to do to bring it back into harmony.

Love is not a mushy, feel good only power. It is a force that strives to bring social inequities to greater equality. Most, if not all of the social justice movements in the world have been underpinned by the power of Love, embodied into meaningful action.

Grains digest slowly, releasing their nutrients and energy in several stages along our GI tract, from the mouth to the gut, and this long digestive process makes grains a great stabilizing and satisfying food, especially for Winter. Examples of good grains for breakfast are organic rolled oats, oat groats, pearled or barley groats, quinoa or quinoa flakes. The groats can be soaked overnight for faster cooking, and the final dish can be blended before being served in your favorite bowl.

Our ability to digest makes a whole difference on how we feel during the day, doesn't it?. If you’re experiencing digestive imbalances despite everything you tried, it can be a sign of a gut in need of support and diet adjustments.

But breakfast is also the meal most of us are still unsure about. What to have? Raw or cooked? And so on.

Ayurvedic nutrition says breakfast is a way to replenish after the fast of the night. It enriches the lymph, which supplies all your other tissues along the day (blood, muscle, fat, bone, bone marrow/nerves, then DNA). Keeping that in mind, you don’t want to make your breakfast a cleansing meal, as this would not be replenishing but rather depleting.

You want to make it nourishing and reserve the leafy greens for lunch and dinner.

It's suggested to cook your breakfast for optimal digestibility, and with a sweet predominant taste. Now, in Ayurveda, sweet doesn’t mean sugary. It means nourishing, supportive, building, relaxing. Sweet nourishing foods for breakfast can include grains, some quality fat, nuts, dry fruits, cooked apple, pear, or blueberries. It can of course include some added sugar, but it can also be savory. Cleaning Up Money’s Mental Mess by: Liz M Raymond

Just a few weeks ago we were welcoming in a New Year and deciding what positive changes we were going to make.

Some pick a word as a way of bringing clarity and focus to increasing the level of success for accomplishing the goals they set for the year.

Some don’t give it a second thought.

Others decide they are tired of the struggle and are ready for change but aren’t quite sure where to start.

In the past as years came to a close and a new year was in sight I'd find myself in a mental tug of war. Encouraged that a new year was coming with a fresh start, I could get “ahead of the game”. Fearful that in a short amount of time I’d have to get my paperwork together to file my taxes. Lack of organization, my financial struggles as a single mom and a new entrepreneur created a huge mental mess for me.

Overwhelm, discouragement, embarrassment and shame came along with my money’s mental mess. They all became partners dancing up a storm in my head daily. It was extremely exhausting. I tried to figure it out on my own, hiding out in my home as night fell. In the daylight I would shine bright doing what I did best……for other entrepreneurs. No one knew I was struggling, I hid it that well.

That fateful day came when I realized if I wanted my life to change, I had to start with myself-from the inside out. I learned how to change “I’m broke” to “I’m financially challenged” to “I’m strategic in where I put my money”.

Shifting “I can’t afford it” and doing without, to “how can I make more money”.

The lessons I learned helped me to reframe what I was telling myself and others.

Listening to my clients and understanding the value I brought to the table, gave me the courage to increase my fees.

The journey of positive change begins with the first step of deciding we are ready for change. The next step is asking for help because we don’t have to do it alone. Finding the courage within, committing to taking action and taking the steps to move forward, one baby step at a time, allows us to clean the money mental mess away and toss it in the trash!.

Acknowledging our money mental mess, releasing self-judgment combined with seeking understanding there is nothing wrong with asking for help, together these make the recipe for positive change.

My mission is all about helping women connect the dots between the many aspects of their business and the financial systems that help them reach their greatest potential in confidence. Understanding money in simple terms, taking the mystery away is my magic.

Love Your Body Love Your Life!

One of the mantra’s that we value at Nia Technique is “Love your body love your life!”

When I think about this, I feel this is underestimated in our society today. With the increase of anxiety and depression, I believe that more and more people are feeling disconnected from their bodies. This statement is much more important today because we only have one body or vessel that we as spirit beings have the privilege to navigate through this life with until death do us part. It is therefore the most important relationship we have to nurture. Our own body’s way.

With February being the “LOVE” month I would like to suggest making time to do something special to celebrate the “LOVE” for your own body. Start with writing a love letter to yourself with gratitude for everything your body can do for you. You might find it to be quite long or at least I would hope it is for your own body’s sake. There are so many things that our body does for us that we take for granted, like simply breathing!
