Improve Your Self-Worth with Positive Affirmations

S

o many people have a tough time with the idea of self-worth. They envy others and see a lack of worth in themselves. They look in the mirror and see someone full of flaws - a “failure” or “loser.” They are also terrified that if anyone REALLY got to know them, they would run the other way. Shame, negativity and even anger drive their sense of self-worth as they beat themselves up for the least little mistake or foible.

Reasons for Negative Self-Worth There are many reasons for a lack of self-worth, but most start at a young age because we are expected to behave in a certain manner and will usually be punished in some way if we fail to meet the expectations of others.

This can be as simple as being put in the naughty corner because you have done something “bad,” sent to bed without supper, of deprived of something you were really looking forward to, to constant criticism and being made to feel like nothing you do is ever good enough and you will never amount to anything.

This can lead to a lack of ambition, and even selfsabotage due to this kind of self-limiting thinking.

Affirmations are one of the best ways to transform negative thinking into positive, “can-do” self-talk that will support you emotionally and intellectually.

Affirmations help you accept who you are, and change what you choose to change. You can use affirmations to eliminate negative character traits. You can also use them to improve your skills and abilities, or even add new skills and abilities. With the help of affirmations, you can learn how to control your anger, avoid procrastination, stop smoking, and boost your self-confidence.

Here are some affirmations worth trying, to help with self-worth and self-esteem issues: 1. When I believe in myself, others do too.

2. I love and accept myself unconditionally.

3. I always do the best I can.

4. I respect myself and others.

5. I deserve all the success I have in my life.

6. I am free to make my own choices and decisions.

7. I am letting go of past struggles, for a brighter future.

Miscarriage & Acupuncture

By Steve Ryu, R.TCMP, R.Ac iscarriage is the loss of a fetus before 20 weeks of pregnancy. Miscarriage is the result of many factors involved in the complex orchestration of pregnancy.

These include: genetic factors, environmental factors, endocrine factors, circulatory factors, and immunologic factors. Most of these factors are a result of subtle and subclinical imbalance - undetectable with blood tests and vaginal ultrasound. However, such imbalances are discoverable with the comprehensive knowledge, experience and research of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) in Reproductive Science - of which the principal tools of correction are acupuncture and traditional Chinese herbs.

From the principles TCM, our body must be in an “optimized” state of balance before one can conceive. To maintain a pregnancy, one must maintain the same balance.

But such balance is not as clear as black and white, on and off, or zero and one state. Instead, it is a bell-shaped curve with the highest point on the top as the state of optimal balance. In other words, a woman can and often does get pregnant when she is in a suboptimal state.

But, it is this group of pregnancies that are often subject to the greatest chance of miscarriage after becoming pregnant. When the body’s condition deviates too far from the optimal balance point, there will be no more pregnancy.

A woman, who experiences miscarriage, loses Qi (vital energy) and Blood according to TCM as well as fetus, meaning that a miscarriage is as draining to a woman’s energy as labor. Indeed there is a saying that proclaims ‘a miscarriage is more serious than labor’. If a proper treatment is not made after miscarriage, imbalanced condition can be aggravated so making her more difficult to get pregnant. With recurrent miscarriages, a woman can lose her hope and sometimes cannot overcome fear and depression that she may be unable to reach to 40th week of pregnancy. Actually this kind of emotional strain can aggravate imbalanced condition of body. Therefore, treatment plans for miscarriage in TCM include: 1. Recovery from losses of Qi and Blood due to recent miscarriage; 2. Distress and relief of emotional strain; 3. Correction of pre-existing imbalance of body.

These purposes can be achieved well by acupuncture and/or Chinese herbs. Even though once pregnancy is achieved, continuous treatments by acupuncture and herbs up to 12th week of pregnancy can help a woman to prevent miscarriage.

here are many paths that lead us to our destiny and not one is any better than the other. The Universe knows exactly what we need and what It wants us to learn. I believe that we are constantly being Divinely guided in everything we do, say, feel etc.. It is a matter of trusting that the Universe has our/Its back, so to speak, in order that we continue to evolve towards the perfection we are meant to be. Believe that you are where you are supposed to be and that what may be right for someone else is not necessarily going to be the best for you.

As I ponder the many paths a few come to mind; there’s the short and fast path that takes one quickly and directly to your destiny, then there is the scenic route, enjoying many incredible sights and taking different forks along the way or maybe you’re on the winding uphill path, travelling over rough terrain, exhausting and difficult. Little may we know that this is a journey where we are learning to overcome many obstacles, so try to embrace these tough times in life.

Each and every path is full of potential gifts of wisdom and knowledge that is continually being shared via that One Consciousness which connects us all.

No matter what path we are on, know that it is the right one for us. As we begin to trust that the Universe knows exactly where we need to be and what we need to learn in order to grow and contribute to the Whole we find that the path we are following becomes more blessed. Our lives are truly our gift to ourselves on a level that we are just beginning to receive glimpses of.

Sri Chinmoy Answers Question: Are Heaven and hell real places, or are they just states of consciousness?

SRI CHINMOY: When we live in the gross physical consciousness, in the body consciousness, hell is really a place. But on the highest spiritual level, we have to know that hell, as well as Heaven, is a plane of consciousness.

Both Heaven and hell begin in the mind.

At every moment we are creating Heaven or hell within us. The moment we think something good, the moment we pray and meditate and try to offer the inner light that we have gained from our meditation and prayers, we begin to live in Heaven. When we cherish a divine thought, an expanding thought, a fulfilling thought, we create Heaven in us. But the moment we think evil of someone, criticise someone and cherish wrong thoughts about someone, then we enter into hell. Heaven we create; hell we create. With our divine thoughts we create Heaven. With our wrong, negative, undivine thoughts we create our own inner hell. So Heaven and hell are both states of consciousness.

Science has contributed much to the feeling that the Kingdom of Heaven is a place outside of ourselves. But the Kingdom of Heaven is within us; it is a matter of one’s own inner achievement. The Kingdom of Heaven is a plane full of peace and delight; it is a plane of divine consciousness. We feel it when we reside deep inside our hearts and when we transcend our egocentric individual consciousness.

Heaven and God are not high above us, somewhere far away; they are within us, inside our hearts. The very conception of Heaven is of something bright, luminous, delightful and, at the same time, immortal; but we do not have to go to a particular state, country or kingdom called Heaven. No, Heaven, which is the infinite Life inside of us, is a state or plane of consciousness, which an aspiring seeker is bound to attain on the strength of his unconditional self-giving. You are not the body. You are not the senses. You are not the mind. These are all limited. You are the soul, which is unlimited.

Time for Change

By Daniel Roy CD, BA, MA, CFP, EPC, CIM, FCSI, CIWM, RRC, CRC or some, making changes in one’s life can be seen as an impossible task. That’s because we focus on the totality of the problem at hand and not necessarily on the component parts of the problem. The old saying goes that you eat an elephant one bite at a time. How true that is.

However, the process of bringing changes into our lives is more complex than that. Here are three questions that I have found very useful in helping myself and my clients to bring clarity to this somewhat complex issue: 1- Do I want to change this at this point in my life?

Yes/No 2- Can I change this? Yes/No 3- When will I change this?

First, you need to decide that YES, I do want this change in my life now. Second, while looking inside, you realize that yes, I CAN make this change. You can then call on your own internal resources or ask for some outside help with this. You then need to decide WHEN you want to start making these changes and then taking the action steps to put all of this into motion.

I live by the moto that Struggle is Optional. If something is not going well in your life, change it. We all have the power to create the life that we want. We live in an abundant world and all the resources are there to assist us. Decide and take Action…Now. Don’t wait for that perfect moment when all will be right. Things are never right. The right time for change is now.

ost of us are afraid of change but no matter we www.wishingtreeyoga.ca like it or not, things change all the time. Seasons change from winter to spring; people change from young to old; today’s superstars become a memory in no time. Things happen because of the development and mixing of modes of nature, and we are not actually the ones who can change material nature even if we believe that human beings are superior. Material nature has its own way to operate. Most of us are affected by the modes of nature but we always foolishly believe that we are in control. To know our real situation, we should understand material nature and know how to transcend the modes of nature (the Guṇas).

The three modes of nature are: Sattva (Goodness), Rajas (Passion) and Tamas (Ignorance). They affect all the activities of the Self. These three modes—goodness, passion and ignorance are not qualities of the soul but qualities of material nature.

To purify ourselves in the mode of goodness is not enough. Think about when we are at the North Pole or South Pole; everywhere is pure white, and we actually cannot find the direction and are easily lost. We need something as a reference to find the way. Similarly, a person completely in goodness is not necessarily able to enjoy life. The concept of happiness is a feeling, a feeling opposite of sorrow.

Without experience of sorrow, we cannot experience happiness. Sorrow comes after happiness; happiness comes after sorrow. No one can avoid this paradox.

Like day comes after night, night comes after day. Death comes after birth, birth comes after death. This is the law of material nature. So instead of looking for the feeling of happiness, transcend the modes of nature to Nirguṇa.

Nirguṇa means we are not affected by the modes of nature. Accept things as they are. When we accept that happiness cannot be separate from sadness, the end of birth is death, and death and birth are only different forms of existence, then we can enjoy life and have a peaceful death. Only the one who has experienced the meetings and partings, the joys and sorrows is able to understand and attain eternal bliss.

Turning Herbs Into Bodycare Treatments

T

his summer, consider turning those gorgeous herbs you are growing into part of your body care regime.

Calendula is one of my favourite herbs. Easy to grow, abundant in blossoms, this lovely little plant has many healing properties. Calendula’s (Calendula officinalis, not to be mistaken for the marigolds we are familiar with) petals are chock full of beta carotene, making it a great antiinflammatory. Topically it can be used for minor cuts and burns due to its antibacterial properties, and dermatitis including excema.

Lavender is another powerful skin healer. It is also analgesic, so very helpful for skin damage. You can use the buds and leaves to make skin care preparations. Got peppermint?

Energizing, analgesic peppermint can be used in all sorts of skin care preparations, from sore muscle concoctions to sinus preparations. Related to the mints, lemon balm is a lovely little plant that grows in proliferation. It is antiviral, so helpful as a tea for instances of herpes simplex.

Comfrey is another herb that has been used for hundreds of years for its medicinal properties. Externally, comfrey can help with sore muscles, bruising and superficial cuts. How can you incorporate these wonderful plants into medicine all year ‘round?

If you have an old screen, you can dry them as they become ready: for example, blossoms can be picked in the morning after the dew has evaporated but before the heat of the sun damages the vital oils. Spread them over the screen and place so that there is ventilation

from both sides. You want them to dry quickly. You can then package them in labelled sterilized glass jars. You can also infuse them in oil. Taking a sterilized glass jar, add 1/3 plant material to 2/3 oil to top up (olive is my favourite). Tap the jar to remove any air bubbles, and make sure plant material is covered with oil completely. You can leave it in the sun for a couple of weeks, then carefully drain off the oil, leaving the herbs behind (coffee filters work well for this), into another sterile container. Label accordingly. This will form the base of any cream or lotion you make later on. Can I Be Hypnotized?

T

he answer is, “No. You can’t. You can’t be hypnotized.” You’re that special person. You’re that person in all the 5,000 plus people that I’ve worked with, that have been hypnotized, you’re that one person that is so completely un-hypnotizable that I couldn’t possibly hypnotize you. You won. You’ve beaten me.

No, I can’t hypnotize you. You are very special.

Yes I’m being a bit sarcastic. I blame my English parents for that. But hypnosis is very, very simple. We just need three things to be in place. If these three things are in place and you can say “Yes” to the following three things, then the answer to the question is, “Absolutely, you can be hypnotized.” Are you ready?

“Is your IQ above 70?” Now, even if you are very developmentally delayed, your IQ might be above 70, maybe 75, 80. Even if you are severely developmentally delayed, as long as your IQ is above 70, you can totally be hypnotized.

“Do you want to be there?” Meaning, is someone holding a gun to your head, is someone forcing you to be there against your will? Are you just coming to see me or another hypnotist because you want to tell your partner, “Well, I tried that hypnosis, but even that didn’t

work for me? Gosh darn it, I guess I’m going to keep smoking cigarettes or stuffing my face with too much food.” If you really want to be there, and you want to be there for yourself, you’re not being bullied or cajoled by someone else, even if they are well-meaning, if you are there for you, then you totally can be hypnotized.

And the third thing that we need for you to be hypnotized successfully, is you’ve got to be able to follow our simple instructions. Meaning, if I look at you and say, “Hey, if it’s safe right now and you aren’t driving or anything...” And if you are driving, you should not be watching this video, turn it off. All right, you’re not driving, good. And when I ask you to close your eyes, you close your eyes. It’s not like I asked you to close your eyes and you’re doing this. I had this woman the other day, I had to ask her three times, “Go ahead, close your eyes and keep your eyes closed.” And she did this. I’m like, “Go ahead, and keep your eyes closed.” She opened her eyes. This happened again in the session. I’m like, “Just keep your eyes closed.” And she opens up her eyes. I don’t know what that proved.

It’s really silly. If I ask you to do something simple like close your eyes, and you can do it, and keep your eyes closed, then totally, you can be hypnotized. You have to be quite intelligent to be hypnotized.

So, we need those three things in place. Your IQ needs to be above 70. You need to be there for yourself, even if it does positively impact other people in your life. And, you have to be able to follow simple instructions, like, “Close your eyes”. If you can do all of those three things, then you can totally be hypnotized. Because, hypnosis is just suggestion, and you are totally suggestible. If you were not suggestible, you wouldn’t be able to learn, to speak your language, to walk, to learn the alphabet, to learn math, to learn to drive a car, to ride a bike. These are all merely suggestions, and that’s all hypnosis is.

It’s merely a suggestion. And, the very fact that you’ve learned anything in your life, means that you are inherently suggestible. So, you can be hypnotized.

Maybe you could choose to hire me, pay me a whole lot of money, come into my office, and then not do anything that I ask you to do so that you can leave and be like, “That hypnosis didn’t work.” You can choose to do that, but you’re wasting your time, my time, and your money. But, why would you want to do that? That makes no sense. It’s stupid.

So, if you are willing to come in, you want your health to be changed, IQ above 70, you really want to be there for you, even if it does impact other people for the positive, and also, that you can follow simple instructions like, “Close your eyes,” realizing that you are suggestible because you’ve learned so many things in your life, even if that’s just to put one foot in front of the other foot, then you could be totally hypnotized.

Because, I haven’t met that one person yet, that one person in 5,000, who can’t be hypnotized. But I’m sure one day I’ll meet that magical person, and I’ll meet this magical powerful person walk in because they can’t be hypnotized. It’s ridiculous. It’s silly.

We can all be hypnotized. It’s a beautiful thing. It gives you more control of your life and your emotional state. So, you can change your life. Hypnosis is about giving you control back in your life. It’s not about taking it away.

Call to Action Ian Prattis

quote from the May 2017 edition of the Lion’s Roar magazine. “ Thirteen leading Buddhist teachers, joined by over 200 additional signatories, called on Buddhists and all peoples of faith to take a stand against policies of the new United States administration that will create suffering for the most vulnerable in society……

Feeling the reality of this suffering, we remember that peacefulness does not mean passiveness and nonattachment does not mean non-engagement…..The dharma is not an excuse to turn away from the suffering of the world, nor is it a sedative to get us comfortably through painful times. It (the dharma) is a powerful teaching that frees and strengthens us to work diligently for the liberation of beings from suffering…..While Buddhism has traditionally emphasized the personal cause of suffering, today we also discern how the three poisons of greed, aggression, and indifference operate through political, economic and social systems to cause suffering on a vast scale…….

As we resist the heightened threat of many of the new administration’s policies, we also recognize that under-represented and oppressed communities in the United States have long suffered from systemic greed, aggression, aversion and indifference…….While some argue that the principle of non-duality suggests that Buddhists should not engage in or take sides on political or social issues, we believe the opposite is true. It is because we and others are not separate that we must act…….. For those who are new to this, please remember that there are many people who have dedicated their lives to the work of social change. They have the useful skills of compassionate organizing and building sustainable movements. Find them, get involved and learn from them.”

I shape this into a simple personal mantra - “I refrain from causing harm.” I know that by refraining from one thing that causes harm,

I then prevent other harmful things from happening.

I arrive at my own insight, which is not imposed by any outside authority. I issue a Call to Action. Bhikkhu Bodhi in Buddhadharma, spring 2017 urges Buddhist advocacy in alliance with progressive leaders to defend the United States’ embattled democracy from President Trump’s “cabinet of bigotry.” He states; “We can call in unison for a policy of global generosity in place of rash militarism, for programs that protect the poor and vulnerable, for the advancement of social and racial justice, and for the rapid transition to a cleanenergy economy …….and bring the moral weight of the dharma to bear on matters that affect the lives of people anywhere – now and long into the future.” His statement was followed by the stance taken by Buddhist leaders in the May 2017 issue of Lion’s Roar magazine I also call out the Hopi Elders’ Prophecy in 2000: “Create your community. Be good to one another. And do not look outside yourself for your leader… See who is there with you and celebrate…. All that we do now must be done in a sacred manner and in celebration. We are the ones we’ve been waiting for.”

For our part we can work with municipalities, conservationists and River Keepers to clean up our waterways and environment. Ensure that children in schools go with you and prepare them to handle cyberbullying and neglect. We hold politicians and corporations to account. Create coalitions with progressive organizations who share our love of kindness and decency.

Walk upon the Earth – Lightly. Be fully Here and Present – Lightly.

HOLY FIRE II REIKI:

A More Powerful Reiki Energy

sui/Holy Fire II Reiki is Reiki’s most recent evolution, and is of a higher frequency than pre-Holy Fire Reiki. It was given to William Lee Rand of The International Center for Reiki Training, and he began teaching it in 2014. It is a powerful, loving, profoundly healing and very gentle energy.

I think that we have been given Holy Fire now because we have come to a time in our evolution when we are able to handle its higher frequency, and because we and the earth are in desperate need of its powerful healing energies.

The holy of Holy Fire is not intended to have a religious meaning, but goes back to the word’s root, meaning whole and complete. Holy Fire Reiki creates wholeness through purification, healing, empowerment and guidance.

When I first read about Holy Fire Reiki in the Reiki News Magazine, I knew that I would have to study it, and in 2015 I found myself in Glastonbury, England doing the Holy Fire Reiki Master/Teacher course with William Lee Rand, and then later that year I studied Holy Fire II Karuna Reiki® at the ICRT in Michigan, again with Rand. In the six months between Glastonbury and Michigan, Holy Fire had continued to evolve to Holy Fire II. People who have received Reiki treatments before a Holy Fire Reiki treatment are amazed at the higher vibrational power and deeper healing that Holy Fire brings. Students and practitioners also recognise that the energy is noticeably greater. Last year, three Reiki Master/Teachers came for treatments in order to experience Holy Fire energy. All three of them sat up after their session and said they needed to sign up for Holy Fire. All three of them are now Holy Fire Master/ Teachers.

Holy Fire Reiki comes from a high level of consciousness. New teaching techniques have the teacher “out of the way” so that the Holy Fire energy takes over, coming directly to the student from its divine source, and not limited or interfered with by the teacher’s energy.

What were once meditations are now Experiences; Attunements have become Placements; and Holy Fire is placed in the student by Ignitions. I taught Reiki before Holy Fire, and have taught it since having Holy Fire, and I can attest to the increased power of Holy Fire, gentle though it is. Much healing happens in the class before students begin to practise!
