Y

ou have probably seen many commercials on TV recently from 23andme and Ancestry.ca on using their DNA testing systems to find out the genetic background that you have. I’ve seen the reports they produce, and it is very cool to see the genetic makeup that these people have. This is certainly one way of exploring our roots which is the theme for this month’s edition. Let’s push this idea further.

I have come to understand that it is vital to one’s success to know who has helped mold you into the person you are today. Your immediate family, your extended family, your friends and your community at large. It is also critical to understand the events that have marked you along your journey in life. Do an inventory of the good, the bad and the ugly and reflect on these items.

Look at your life today. Are you happy with the way things are going? What on this list is not serving you anymore? Is it time to release the negative emotions attached to this event? Whom on this list is not helping you achieve your goals? Is it time to forgive these people for their wrongdoings?

I did this exercise many years ago and I’m continually revisiting issues as I move forward on my life journey.

Success is the progressive realization of a worthy idea and it’s not a direct line to the end. “Stuff” happens in

Instructions Blend butter and oils in double boiler over low heat until liquid.

Remove from heat and add essential oils. Package in sterile glass jar.

Apply around eyes (avoid eyeball) as needed Love Potion Number 9 Small rose quartz 120mLrose hydrosol 10 drops each essential oils of geranium, amyris and mandarin vegetable glycerine Blend essential oils and glycerine in bottom of sterile glass spritzer bottle.

Add rose quartz and top up with rose hydrosol. Leave under full moon for best effect.

nd now for something completely different, I thought I would share some of the fun DIY recipes we have been sharing on social media. These recipes are all natural and pretty simple!

Curls and coffee hair pomade 50 mL roasted coffee butter 50mL castor oil 10mL jojoba oil 20 drops total essential oil of your choice (we love peppermint for a pick me up, or bergamot for a fresh citrus scent) Melt butter and oils in a double boiler (gentle heat). Remove from heat and add essential oils. Keep in clean, sterile jar. Refrigerate if necessary to obtain solidity.

Apply from hair root to tip, especially at ends.

Green Coffee Eye Treatment Ingredients 125mL Green coffee butter 2 tbsp. Hazelnut oil 10 drops rose hip oil 10 drops rosemary essential oil 10 drops frankincense essential oil

Nourish me Face Mask Chia seed extract muttani miti clay hydrosol of your choice (we love neroli, immortelle and ylang ylang for this project) Blend dry ingredients and add hydrosol until moist enough to form a ball. Spread evenly over face and let harde, 10-15 minutes. Gently remove with warm water and moisturize as usual.

The Invitation

F

or many years my relatives have talked about my cultural roots being partly North American indigenous and there was no evidence to back this up. I set about doing some intensive genealogical research into my family tree on my French side in Quebec and on my English side in the State of Maine and in New Brunswick. To my surprise I found that I had Mi’kmaq ancestry in northern Maine. I had always wondered why I was so magically attracted to all things indigenous. At last I had found a clue. Since finding this out I have travelled to many indigenous tribal sacred villages and sites. For example, to Manitoulin Island in northern Ontario, to the Beothuk tribal villages in Newfoundland and to the Esalen tribal site in Big Sur, California. My life and my counselling practice have been highly influenced by indigenous wise men like Black Elk, in the book “Black Elk Speaks”, and writers like Don Miguel Ruiz, in his wonderful book called “The Four Agreements”, which summarizes much of indigenous elder wisdom.

THE INVITATION It doesn’t interest me what you do for a living. I want to know what you ache for, and if you dare to dream of meeting your heart’s longing.

It doesn’t interest me how old you are. I want to know if you will risk looking like a fool for love, for your dreams, for the adventure of being alive.

It doesn’t interest me what planets are squaring your moon. I want to know if you have touched the center of your own sorrow, if you have been opened by life’s betrayals or have become shriveled and closed from fear of further pain!

I want to know if you can sit with the pain, mine or your own, without moving to hide it or fade it or fix it.

I want to know if you can be with joy, mine or your own, if you can dance with wildness and let the ecstasy fill you to the tips of your fingers and toes without cautioning us to be careful, be realistic or to remember the limitations of being human.

It doesn’t interest me if the story you’re telling me is true. I want to know if you can disappoint another to be true to yourself; if you can bear the accusation of betrayal and not betray your own soul.

I want to know if you can be faithful and therefore be trustworthy.

I want to know if you can see beauty even when it is not pretty every day, and if you can source your life from God’s presence.

I want to know if you can live with failure, yours and mine, and still stand on the edge of a lake and shout to the silver of the full moon, “Yes!” It doesn’t interest me to know where you live or how much money you have. I want to know if you can get up after the night of grief and despair, weary and bruised to the bone, and do what needs to be done for the children.

It doesn’t interest me who you are, how you came to be here. I want to know if you will stand in the center of the fire with me and not shrink back.

It doesn’t interest me where or what or with whom you have studied. I want to know what sustains you from the inside when all else falls away.

I want to know if you can be alone with yourself, and if you truly like the company you keep in the empty moments.

Make Yourself Happier with These Ingredients

W

hat does it take to be happy? We all know healthy, wealthy, beautiful people who are miserable, so it must take something else to be happy. But what?

What’s the big secret?

While there isn’t a recipe that works for everyone, there are a number of things that most happy people have in common.

Adding at least a few of these items to your life is sure to make you smile more often:

1.

Something to look forward to. Think about how much more you enjoy your life when you have something on the horizon to look forward to. It could be a vacation, Christmas, a fun project to start, or the pending release of a new book. What can you plan in the near future that would excite you?

2.

Someone to love. It’s important to have someone to love and someone that loves you.

It doesn’t necessarily have to be a romantic relationship. A child, or even a pet, can fill that role. There are many people alone in the world. All you need to do is reach out to them.

A meaningful way to spend your time.

This isn’t quite the same as challenge.

Volunteering at your church or a charity might not be challenging, but it can be meaningful.

It’s important to feel that you matter.

Personal growth. People are happy when they’re making progress in life. There are many ways to experience progress. It might be your waistline, health, knowledge, wisdom, golf game, or your piano skills. Knowing you’re better at something today than you were last year is a great feeling.

How happy are you? What can you do to make yourself happier? The items in this list are important, but the list isn’t exhaustive. Add a few of these items to your life and brainstorm a few more ideas.

You can make yourself happier by taking control of your life and focusing on the things that make a difference to you. Soon, you’ll feel greater fulfillment and realize that you’ve built a life you truly enjoy.

The Power of We

W

e live in a rather individualistic society. In a way it is comfortable because we can follow our own rhythm and needs. Yet, there is an undeniable value in developing social skills and drawing from the power of We. I have helped numerous clients to bridge that gap, with a great deal of satisfaction for me, as my sole work and intention is to help my clients; and of course this is deeply satisfying for my clients as well. I absolutely love my work, coaching, guiding, using the powerful techniques I have learned, hypnosis, individual and trauma work, mentoring, and meditation. Recently, I have been seeing that the core of great contemplative tradition is often lacking in those modalities. To explore ancient principles of Oneness, Unity, Freedom, Love and Kindness is essential. So I am inviting you to join me in the group work that we’re offering this fall. When we add triads or small group discussions, we are able to own the subject matter and learn from other’s perspective. We learn communication and teamwork skills. In a way we can say that the philosophical content is reinforced and we can learn from each other.

This fall I will be offering two series of monthly mini retreats. One series will be lead by myself and my husband, Jürgen, and it will be for more advanced meditation practitioners. During those sessions we will have longer meditations and conversations. I have explored the principles of triad work extensively in the last eight years and love the depth and intimacy it provides. It takes us beyond the mind or intellect into a deeper presence, an ability to express, feel and perceive from a more grounded place.

I highly recommend this practice to all meditators, yoga teachers and practitioners and to anyone interested really. This practice takes us to a completely different place, to a new paradigm. There is a sense of satisfaction that we derive from practicing and deepening our skills, for

having the ability to integrate the ancient, and current philosophies, into our life. I find that embedded in all ancient texts are similar fundamental principles. Yet we can ask ourselves, “Am I able to perceive others as my own self? Able to perceive deeper levels of emotions, as in seeing that behind anger there may reside fear, or sadness?” If you are interested in joining a group of sincere, kind and inspiring individuals, then contact me.

Manifestation and the Cause

By Ivy Xie-McIsaac, E-RYT200, YACEP in Yoga is a style of Yoga that is used to connect and balance the external environment and the inner world of the Self - the place that cannot be seen from outside.  Yin (阴) is a Chinese word and refers to the place where there is no light.

Because the internal organs cannot be seen from the outside, Traditional Chinese Medicine always looks at the symptoms from the outside openings that are related to the internal organs to understand what is happening inside. The internal organs have related openings in the body.

When we see a manifestation we should know that there is always a cause behind it. So if my eyes have an issue, it could be an eye problem or a liver problem manifested in the eyes. We need to find out which is the cause and then take action. Otherwise, if the cause is actually at the liver but we keep working on the eyes only, then the symptoms will keep appearing. If we find out the real cause, then we can be healed faster.

For the outside direct symptoms, knowledge from modern science explains more precisely and in detail; for the symptoms that are caused from the inside, ancient wisdom provides more profound information.

For the purpose of health and happiness we should make use of both. True and sacred knowledge is like the light that gives us the ability to see so the pain and suffering can be prevented.

Acupuncture training from The Training Centre of Guangzhou Medical College, China has given me a grounded comprehension of Tradition Chinese Medicine. Over 20 years of Yoga practice and learning from various experienced teachers has given me an extensive understanding of Yoga. May we walk on the journey for health and happiness together.

Question: Is meditation a way of having absolute freedom from all attachments?

SRI CHINMOY: Let us first speak about freedom in the outer life. We see children who leave their parents and they feel that they are free.

But they still have hundreds of problems because their minds are constant victims to ugly, negative thoughts.

They cannot get rid of their thoughts. So where is freedom when one is still subject to ignorance?

From the spiritual point of view, freedom does not come from freeing oneself from outer restrictions and obligations. Real freedom is the feeling of universal oneness and this you can get from a life of meditation.

Meditation will free you from the sea of ignorance. It will give you everlasting freedom, the freedom of oneness.

Right now you cannot unite yourself even with the person right beside you. You feel with your ego that you are yourself and he is somebody else. Your freedom is so limited that you are trying to exercise your human power to lord it over others. But this is not freedom.

Real freedom is the inseparable oneness with the universe. There you are growing together. You are achieving something and you are seeing that the entire world is achieving it at the same time. When you are sorrowful, immediately you feel that the whole world is suffering with you, sympathising with your cause, growing with you.

So if you want inner freedom, spiritual freedom, then I wish to say that it is in becoming one with the rest of humanity. Otherwise what are you gaining by cherishing the separation of yourself from others?

Yes, we should separate ourselves from ignorance, imperfection, limitation, bondage and so forth, but we should not, and we must not, separate ourselves from our soul, from the reality which is light and delight.

When we are following the spiritual life, we have to know that our real freedom is in identifying ourselves with the rest of the world, with humanity at large.

By becoming one, we stand united, we march united toward the Highest, united we shall fulfill our Goal.

hysical pain can be the result of emotional suffering. Chronic physical pain is often linked not only to injuries, but also to emotional stress, trauma, and depression. In fact, emotional suffering can aggravate physical pain that affects different areas of the body and also impair one’s thinking and spirit. Valuing Yourself

he question isn’t whether you’re valuable. That you are is a given. You have to be or do nothing more than exist. You’re a Creation – irreplaceable.

The more meaningful question is, “Do I accept that I AM valuable?”

Many people keep trying to claim this into their heart by searching for evidence from comparisons of appearance, wealth, status, material possessions, abilities, connections, or accomplishments. They test their worth according to the journey of others.

But this only leads to pain because no two creations are alike. Still, there is some expectation they have of themselves that they’re trying to meet that, if satisfied, will bring an end to all inner doubt. Some proving of their worth that will outweigh their fear repeating in their mind: I’m useless, dismissed, misunderstood, too different, too sensitive, etc. These ego-self judgments bolster darker spaces.

Exposing yourself to the world of negative forces through such self-misperceptions plays right into their enslavement game and their collection of negative emotional energy. They enjoy feeding off of this. Remember, low vibration and suicidal thoughtforms are mind-controlling attempts to control your soul. Our collective shadow is now pushing up. And artificial intelligence broadcasts are heavily targeting the negative ego to create pain. The media is pushing the suicide agenda. Don’t claim this as yours. When you truly value yourself you whole-heartedly declare that nobody, nor anything, can take your God-given powerful, inner Light. Children especially need to learn this.

If you don’t value yourself who will? Honestly ask yourself, “How do I diminish my own light by downplaying my capability, my wisdom, my creativity and all that expresses through my one-of-a-kind vessel of God?” “Do I appreciate all that I AM?” You’re not supposed to be like anyone else. Thank God for that! You can’t hold back your love and light.

How To Be Your Own Saviour 1/2

L

et me share a little story about myself. You may have heard this in my original story. Many, many years ago when I was a young man, around the age of 11, I remember being in my bedroom and I was very sad. I was quite depressed, quite anxious about life in general. I also felt very bad for no particular reason. It was at that moment I made a scary yet empowering revelation in my own life that nobody was coming to save me. Nobody was coming to heal me. Nobody was coming to help me. I realized as an 11-year-old boy that I was alone. Yes, I lived at a home with my parents but this was the turmoil I was going through in my mind. I realized that no one was going to come on a white horse or a motorbike or a helicopter or that car from “Knight Rider”. But as a matter of interest I’m actually going see that car in a couple of months in Las Vegas. However, nobody was coming to save me. I was all alone and it was terrifying.

Yet there was a strange level of empowerment as well in that moment. I realized for my life to be the masterpiece that I wanted it to be I had to be my own saviour. I had to save myself. I had to take full responsibility for my life, for the things that were working, and more importantly, the things that were not working. And I thought to myself, “Who did I need to come and save me? If I could magic, abracadabra, alakazam someone to come and save me at this time of my life who would this person be?” And at the time I was and still am a big wrestling fan and a superhero fan so...it had to be a guy.

It had to be this strong guy that had his own will, that walked to the beat of a different drummer, a man that

was indifferent to the validation other people would give or withhold from him, a man that was not afraid to go left when everyone around him was going right, a man that was strong not just with muscles, not just had this outward appearance of being cool with tattoos and leather jackets - he wasn’t somebody that was just doing something. He wasn’t just doing a bunch of techniques.

He wasn’t just playing a character for a TV show, for a movie or in front of a camera. He was somebody that was being that person. That’s who I needed to come and save me.

And it took many, many years (decades in fact) for me to meet that man. In fact, for me to be that man. You see, I’ve done lots of techniques, done lots of changes in my body and in my life. But there was a disconnect with people around me who did not buy it, and on an unconscious level I didn’t quite buy it either because I was realizing that I was doing something. I was being somebody rather than being him. And the interesting thing is that over the last few years, I’ve again overcome more challenges in my life, all without blowing my horn about how magnificent I am and, “Oh, look at me” - It isn’t about that.

Now I look back on my life as a 38-year-old man who has lived all over the world and has had many experiences both positive and negative - the ups and downs of health, of romantic relationships, of being in the public eye, of being successful in business. What makes me most proud is the man that I am now, the man I created as that little 11-year-old boy who was alone in his bedroom. Now it wasn’t a conscious thing that I was trying to do. I needed to speak with colourful language, I needed to call people on their bullshit. Most importantly me and my bullshit. I actually didn’t sit down and list these things but it was all of those things.

When I look back on the man that I am today, a miraculous thing had happened - I unconsciously created this saviour. I unconsciously created this character called Hypno Punk.

This character of Luke Michael Howard is the man that I needed to create in order to save my life. And make no mistakes about it, it is who I am now. Whenever I’m hosting this podcast, whenever I’m doing a session with a client, whenever I’m with my girlfriends or with my friends, whenever I’m just sitting at home, or I’m walking down the street, I am the same man with many foibles.

One of my problems was I would go to conferences presented by many famous gurus in personal development and I’d see this image on stage of this very powerful godlike person with amazing charisma, amazing charm, extroverted. Yet when they were off stage they were shrivelled in comparison. They were nothing compared to that person on stage.

And that always upset me and always rubbed me the wrong way.

I know sometimes we create these characters - someone at work, someone with a wife or a husband, someone with our kids, someone with our parents or our friends. We have different hats that we wear at different times. I acknowledge this.

But the difference I’d see for many famous motivational, inspirational gurus on and off stage, was completely shocking and I’d felt that I’d been sold out, that somebody was peddling something and they were talking the talk but not walking the walk. And I like to talk. This is why I have a pet podcast. Trust me, I like to talk, but equally I like to not be a hypocrite in my own life. And if I ask my client to do something, if I ask anyone to do something, I would be willing to do it myself for my own salvation.

So this character with the 21 tattoos, with the muscles, with the big beard, with the leather jacket, with the ripped jeans, with the T-shirts with wings and skulls on them, with this badass attitude, this was a man, an avatar I created as a young boy unconsciously because I realized nobody was coming and I had to create this person. I had to make this metamorphosis, this transformation, if you will, because otherwise I wasn’t going to get out of this thing alive. And that was tested for many, many years. I tried different concepts, different looks, different personality traits but again I was doing stuff rather than being somebody.

magine that as a woman you have a 70-85% chance of First Breath Fertility getting pregnant each month on a mysterious cycle that you are completely unaware of. The repercussions of this would be unexpected pregnancies and lowered chances of conception while on the other hand, if a woman knew of this cycle we could fill the world with loved and planned children.

Well, according to scientific clinical studies done in the 1960s and 1970s in Czechoslovakia and Hungry we have such a cycle. What colours are your roots?

o you find pleasure playing with words? Much like colours, they have such splendiferous combinations and associations. So here’s one for you: When you think of “roots” what first comes to mind?

The famous Canadian store, a root canal, the TV series?

Or perhaps the root of an equation, your hair roots … the root of a problem, tree roots, or maybe your family genealogy? What first comes to my mind is family, and, because I’ve long been fascinated with energy, the root chakra.

My roots are kaleidoscopic. I come from a family of six with a strong French Canadian, Roman Catholic heritage. Both my grandmothers had sixteen children each. Yes, sixteen! That totals to approximately 12 years of pregnancy each!! Unlike theirs, my life has been incomparably different. At the age of two, I left a small Ontario farmland brick home to move to New Delhi, India with my pregnant mother, father and older brother. Over the next twelve years we live in the capital cities of France, Ivory Coast, Tunisia and Trinidad. Each time, my world was dismantled and reassembled in completely alien, disorienting and sometimes alarming surroundings.

My loving kin was instrumental for my emotional, mental and physical survival. Years later I grasped how these marvellous, enriching, tumultuous and unnerving times shaped me. Profoundly beautiful, unique cultural expressions inspired me, yet witnessing the poor lives of Third World folk broke my heart.

As an empath with a sensitive nature, I buried tons of hurt until at the age of thirty-one I fell apart. This set in motion my search for holistic health, inner peace and true happiness. A huge part of this healing journey rests in my spiritual and artistic explorations of makes us joyful and bright.

With many directions to explore and play with, the activity of painting offers personal messages to be gently delivered. Colour, strokes, dots, lines and textures come together to create a language of their own. Out of abstract imagery emerge stories that bring insight and powerful healing.

I’ve always loved the look of layered colours because of the depth they reveal, and, just as our family roots are a backdrop for our life, the base layer of a painting inspires us to choose and define a new image, which in turn becomes a reflection of our story.

This spring, at coCreations studio, we were discussing chakra metaphors and painting what they evoke. The root chakra provided fabulous allegories for feeling grounded, safe, and part of a tribe. One painting had playful bright dots that conjured a shield representing diverse connections of the painter’s ancestry. Another

looked like tree rings with a feathery yet strong, dark red centre anchoring one to the deep core of the earth.

Putting colour on a surface allows hurt, muck, negativity, fear, etc. to find a natural way out of the body instead of festering into dis-ease. Embracing art making as a process versus a product permits the body-mind to speak. This more relaxed outlook helps to withhold criticism, bypass our conscious, ego-mind and connect us to our innate wisdom and creativity.

Fiddling around with allegories some more, this fall I will be facilitating a creative workshop at the Natural Food Pantry where you not only will be able to eat food rooted from nature but play with your food as well!

Rooted in another reality, in a new collaboration with Caroline Brousseau at the Upward Dog Yoga Centre, we’ve created the Asana of Art for you to experience a deeper place where art and spirituality are interwoven through yoga postures and, of course, some fun art making.

From Dark Night to Serving the Light

t’s hard to fight your soul, when it knocks on the door of your life and tells you it’s time to make a change.

And when you happen to agree, then all you can do is step aside while the soul rearranges your life.

It was about ten years ago when this happened to me.

Fortunately, I did not know how drastic and painful the changes would be.

But they were necessary. Because I had made this declaration: “I am who I came here to be.” I had demanded to discover and become my truest, highest self. Which meant that anything less than that would be removed.

I was sent on a years-long journey of self-discovery and self-healing. I experienced dozens of forms of healing, and studied many of them. I became a Reiki Master, Kundalini Yoga Teacher, Life Coach, and Shamanic practitioner. I served Spirit as a Lightworker.

Let me tell you a story …..

My grand-nephew James was celebrating his birthday, yet he felt awful about being nine years old. He wished he could stay five years old forever. When I asked him “Why?” he replied that if he could stay five then the Earth would not explode. His lips quivered and tears welled up in his large brown eyes. “I am scared it is too late, that there will be nothing to save,” he exclaimed with a frightened voice.

He dropped the unopened gift in his hand. He was so upset. I gently guided him from the hallway of his home to sit with me on the back garden steps. It was quiet there.

James said, “I don’t want to grow up and live in a world that is burning.”

After a long talk I gave James a mindfulness plan to follow.

I talked about “Gardening in the Mind” – a basic strategy of Engaged Buddhism. I offered him eight simple steps to refine mindfulness and then engage differently with the world.

1. Yo James – learn to be silent and quiet! Clear time and space for spiritual practice at home and throughout your daily schedule. James shouted back: Yo Uncle Ian – right on – got it!

2. Create a stress reduction menu and subtract the negative energies in the garden of your mind.

3. Be determined to meditate daily – do the weeding of getting rid of negative energies..

4. Focus on and soften your heart – do not be mean cultivate the soil of your mind’s garden.

5. Cultivate the seeds of mindfulness – Love, Compassion, Joy, Equanimity and promote them at home, school, work and in solitude.

6. Simplify, make do with less, de-clutter your mind and home.

7. Taste the fruits of your spiritual practice that change your mind.

8. Engage with the world.

It’s My Birthday Written by Rev. Alexis Nicol

W

hat would you like for your “big birthday”? That was a question I was recently asked, to which I quickly replied with my standard response: “I’m good I don’t need anything please save your money.” They weren’t going to accept my answer so easily this time.

They said, “It’s a special one” (my 60th not needing to be reminded) continuing to throw ideas forward – one of them being sky diving. I thought to myself yes, sure all of these sound great, but there wasn’t the excitement one would think would accompany such incredible options. This caused me to wonder what/ why something was missing. Why was this question so difficult for me? What would bring me joy?

The following morning during my daily meditation aka talk to the Universe, I decided to put the question up for an answer. Almost instantaneously I saw myself giving Blessings to those in attendance wishing to receive one. My whole body, mind and soul tingled with Joy. I knew I just received a very special message and gift that I am meant to share.

Shortly afterwards the dreaded sensation of fear began to rise. My mind was full of questions: You’ve never arranged anything like this before, who would come (maybe nobody), where would I hold it…..?

Thankfully, the pull was greater than the fear and I knew that I had to follow through. I trusted that if this is to happen the Universe would guide me and ensure it would be a smooth, easy process. Before I could change my mind everything was arranged.

James was entering all of this on his tablet as I continued to talk. “Our ways of living together, caring for environmental, political and economic realms need to be re-constructed.” I assured James that “Gardening in the Mind” has the capacity to transform how we think. Finding stillness and inner silence is a necessary first step. “We have to find a way to create the conditions for this to happen. In our modern world of fast paced lifestyles there are so many distractions that make us outwardly dependant and un-centered. We also find it easier to close down rather than open up our hearts. But the remedy is within reach. We can unravel the knots of suffering and move from being mindless to being mindful. This is achieved by gardening in the mind.

I assured James that we are equal to the task and I chose not to hold back anything from him during this long conversation on his birthday. He is an unusually bright boy, as he asked questions and demanded clarification. Yet I knew he had grasped what I had said. He came up to me as I was leaving and whispered in my ear that my chat with him was his best birthday present ever.

Ancient Healing Art Finds A New Meaning

W

e all welcome and crave for that deep relaxation, similar to a shampoo that we have experienced at our hairstylist or barber, during an Indian Head Massage session; and lasting longer than a couple of minutes!

An Indian Head Massage (IHM) treatment is the time for the client to Relax~Rejuventate~Refresh. What I have noticed is an IHM gives the client permission to slow down, over the duration of the treatment to find deeper relaxation, in a quiet, calm and peaceful environment.

Throughout the different techniques of the IHM, marma points are stimulated. Marma points are an integral part of Ayurveda and are subtle points, similar to points used in acupressure and Reflexology, which stimulates the life force. They are found on the body where two or more types of tissue meet, for example, muscles, veins, ligaments, bones and joints. It is known that there are 107 marma points on the body; 37 located in the head and neck areas, 12 in the front of the body and 22 in the upper limbs.

No wonder this technique is so effective!

Another benefit that I have noticed with my client is that it helps with sinus congestion especially this summer with allergy season going on longer than usual. The client is mostly sitting in a chair during the treatment, with finishing by laying on their back on my massage table, fully clothed, while the face, ears, and balancing the three chakras are paid attention to. By this time, most clients have totally relaxed and this is when I believe the body does its best healing!

Basic Foundations of Past Life Regression Offered by José Luis Cabouli, M.D., University of Buenos Aires, General, Surgeon, Plastic Surgeon.

Why are we concerned with past lives?

Many of the difficulties and emotional conflicts in our present life originate from traumatic or emotionally painful experiences we went through in a previous existence. These experiences do not go away after death and th`ey leave an emotional mark that stays embedded deep down in our being; this mark is passed onto subsequent lives.

The instant the soul leaves the body; it may carry with it a heavy load of mixed emotions. Fear, guilt, anguish, abandonment, and other feelings are mixed with anger, hate, fury, or thirst for revenge.

When we face the various circumstances of our dayto-day lives, we unknowingly react on impulse, and this reaction is triggered by forces coming from our past. The more unusual and out of place the reaction is, the higher the probabilities of it originating from a previous life event.

In the midst of a given situation, when we react emotionally without being able to get a hold of ourselves, this is due to the fact that at the subconscious level, we are reliving an experience that has been triggered by an analogy to the current situation. For example, let’s think of a person who is claustrophobic. Every time this person is in an enclosed place, s/he experiences anguish, difficulty breathing, and a feeling of imminent death. This is what the person objectively feels at a physical conscious level. While at another level, his/her soul may be remembering a death by asphyxia or the crumbling of a mine. The person is not conscious of this but since his/her soul is reliving that experience, s/he experiences all the physical and emotional feelings of the previous death. Every time this person faces the possibility of being trapped in an enclosed environment, s/he will inevitably experiment the emotional reactions of claustrophobia.

What concerns can be addressed with using Past Lives Regression (PLR)? Basically, anything and everything that is usually addressed during a consultation with a psychotherapist can be addressed. Phobias, fears, anguish, depression, blockages, guilty feelings, iterative failures, whether they are affective or material, behavioural distress, sexual issues, relationships conflicts, suicidal tendencies and psychosomatic ailments, such as allergies, bronchospasms or psoriasis, amongst others.

PLR is based on three basic premises: • The soul’s timeless dimension • The direct connection existing between psychic problems in this lifetime and traumatic events occurred in previous lives, during intrauterine life and at birth.

• The natural ability that human beings have to relive consciously unresolved experiences that are hidden in the subconscious mind.

Since 1988 Dr. Cabouli, MD, has been working exclusively on the development of Past Lives Regression therapy. Since 1992, he has been in charge of teaching courses on how to work with this technique. Since then he has taught more than 300 health professionals (physicians, psychologists, kinesiology specialists, nurses, doulas, naturopaths). He has delivered courses in Argentina, Spain, Mexico, and Venezuela and has authored 7 books about the soul and past lives, where he has shared his research, testimonies, and treatment of his patients.

Sand Mandala 2018: Echoes of the Sacred October 11-13 Ottawa City Hall

A

s you come closer, you can just make it out - a soft vibrating sound. It takes a while to see that it comes from the metal implements the four monks are holding in their hands. Scrape, scrape, scrape… In one hand, they hold a pencil-like funnel, filled with coloured sand.

The other holds a small metal rod, which they slide over the bumpy surface of the funnel, with the resulting vibration propelling the sand out of a small hole in the tip.

The monks are rapt in concentration, focusing on the intricate design of the sand mandala they are creating.

Tiny ridges of bright blue, tiny dollops of crimson red, tiny white lines. Their mouths are covered to prevent an inadvertent cough from ruining the refined work. Red robes carefully arranged, they are bent over each side of a square, where they have already carefully drawn the intricate design of the mandala upon the wooden platform. Now they are spending three days filling it in with sand.

The Tibetan word for mandala, khyil-khor, means ‘that which encircles a centre’, and at the centre of the sand mandala is the enlightened being, the Buddha, whose energy is being invoked. Whether male or female, peaceful or wrathful, the deity at the centre represents the energy of compassion and wisdom emanating in

the world. Although the mandala is created as a twodimensional image, it is visualized three-dimensionally as the palace or temple of the deity, traditionally constructed in a square shape with great doors that open on all four sides, symbolizing the idea that the gates to enlightenment face in all directions.

Each Buddha manifests the qualities of enlightened mind, and since our own primordial nature is not other than this very same enlightened mind, we can actualize the wisdom and compassion of our own minds by connecting with the deity. This connection and the awakening of our own enlightened qualities is the ultimate meaning and purpose of the mandala.

The artist-monks will come from India, Tibet, and the US to create the sand mandala at Ottawa City Hall October 11-13, 2018. As well as the opportunity to experience the making of the mandala, the threeday event will include a Tibetan bazaar, a healing empowerment focused on the energy of the Medicine Buddha, and a concert performance featuring Tibetan ritual musical instruments and sacred Lama dances performed by the monks. At the end of the third day, the sand mandala will be destroyed, reminding us of the impermanence of all things.

It is considered a special blessing to witness the creation of a sand mandala. The entire process is FREE for public viewing, so please join us!
