KICK OFF THE NEW YEAR…
There is a quote from Phillis George that says, “Change to me is like an old friend. It’s not my enemy anymore. And I know it will keep coming back to visit again and again to teach me something new.” The way I see it is, that the coming of the new year is just like that old friend named change. It comes our way, again and again, giving us a great opportunity to learn. Why not stand up, get your balance and kick your way into the new year?
In a survey conducted by the National Recreation and Park Association, 94% of U.S. adults had health and wellness as a top goal for 2022. Their focus was on drinking more water and eating healthier, reducing stress, increasing exercise and daily step counts, and getting outside more often. Maybe your 2023 can include the same goals?!
I invite you to kickstart your year by being active in Danville by taking a class and learning something or doing it just because. Take a hike on our beautiful trails as this may help you drink more water, and it will certainly help you increase your step count. We also provide plenty of indoor activities that will help you meet your goals. Whether indoors or outdoors, our offerings can bring your health, wellness, and fun through a life filled with visits to our parks, recreating with us, and appreciating the arts.
The changing of the new year will bring you the opportunity to learn something new. Why not do it with us?! I invite you to check out our programs as you flip through the pages of our current activity guide. Another option would be for you to come and join us in person at the 13th Annual Recreation Expo and Open House on Saturday, February 4, 2023. We will be live and in-person, bringing the fun at the Danville Community Center, Senior Center, and Village Theatre to showcase our programs and service. Let’s kick off this new year together!

A GREAT FRONTIER ODYSSEY: SKETCHING THE WEST
Age 55Y & Up | Town Staff
The focus of the lecture will be about a past exhibit at the San Ramon Valley Museum, "A Great Frontier Odyssey: Sketching of the West". In 1873, Harper's Weekly magazine hired two artists to roam the west from their offices in New York to San Francisco, draw and chronicle what they saw and send their sketches back to Harpers to be published. They created almost a hundred drawings that show the west and a way of life soon to disappear.

Getting older doesn’t have to be stressful or overwhelming. As we get older, sometimes we just need a little help, like a personal aide to pick up groceries or drive us to an appointment. This workshop helps you educate and prepare yourself and your loved ones before the need arises so you can age gracefully. Topics to be addressed include: What is Care Management? What services can Care Managers provide? Who can benefit from Care Management? Who can be a Care Manager? What do you need to know to plan case studies?
