WHAT WILL I STUDY?

The English Literature course includes a broad range of styles and genres, from the established canon to contemporary writing. You will develop knowledge and understanding of the writer’s craft and how language, form and structure are used to create meaning. English Literature enables you to develop critical and analytical skills; these are highly valued by employers and universities. The course complements all arts, humanities and sciences. Our staff are passionate about the subject and eager to share their love of learning with our students. The classroom environment is engaging and stimulating.

WHAT CAN I DO AFTER THE COURSE?

Once you’ve finished English Literature you will have acquired a range of useful skills including the ability to analyse and evaluate literature. You will be able to articulate independent opinions and judgements and express these effectively. These skills will be useful if you decide to study English Literature, or any other subject, at university and for careers in journalism, marketing, publishing, drama, academia, linguistics, and new media.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: Five GCSEs at grades 9-5 including maths and English

LENGTH OF COURSE: Two years

ASSESSMENT: Three exams after two years (worth 80% of the course); the other 20% is coursework

TYPE OF COURSE: A Level
