New! TRAD CONNECTIONS at Siamsa... Well worth going to! An exciting new series of traditional Irish music performances will begin on 31st January in the intimate surroundings of the foyer at Siamsa Tíre. The aim of the series is to create a forum for well known and upcoming traditional artists from around the country to perform in an intimate setting on the last Friday of every month. The first in the series will present one of Ireland’s finest accordion players Danny O’Mahony, currently Traditional Artist in residence at UCC. Imaginative and fearless in his interpretation, Danny’s musical style is expressive and deeply personal. His passionate engagement with the traditions of his native area of Kerry is embodied in his own creative practice and style which has brought him national and international acclaim. O’Mahony has a keen interest in regional styles and historical accordion practices that is integral to his own performance and creative exploration of musical

traditions. An experienced broadcaster, Danny presents and produces a popular weekly radio programme on Radio Kerry featuring Irish Traditional Music and Song entitled Trip to the Cottage, which began in 2004. The second in the series will present multi-award winning Sligo-based trio Leonard Barry (native of Kilmoyley), Declan Folan and Shane McGowan. They released their new album ‘Hurry the Jug’ in 2019 and will include a selection of tunes from their album on the night as well as music from their extensive repertoire. The third performance will present up and coming traditional band The Rising which was formed in 2016. This 4 piece band consists of guitar, button accordion, fiddle and percussion, vocals and unique Irish dance and their aim is to ‘change the world of trad, one lively tune at a time’. They have toured nationwide and internationally together and individually and closed

out the Friday night of Fleadh Cheoil na hEireann gig for the last four years. The fourth performance of this season will be from Noel McAuliffe and Leonard Casey – no strangers to Siamsa Tíre and local audiences.

Trad Connections will continue throughout the summer months with exciting guest musicians to be announced ahead of the season! Enjoy the best of traditional music, new and old, at Siamsa Tíre for only €5.

a blend of Merlot, Syrah, and Zinfandel. The name is apparently inspired by a mysterious location that was used to blend and store wine during the 13th century in Europe, known as Apothecia. According to the inscription on the bottle, Apothic Red is a ‘masterful blend’ of the three grapes and creates a layered flavor profile of dark red fruits with hints of mocha and vanilla. It has great fruity finish Perfect for Sangria as well! PERFECT FOR A NIGHT WITH FRIENDS Apothic Wines, like the one showcased in this review, are a wide range of offerings produced by the biggest wine producer and exporter in California, E.J. Mayor of Tralee Cllr Jim Finucane (FG) has revealed that the council is to advertise later this month for expressions of interest from the private sector for a centre on a council-owned site at Fel’s Point in the town. The centre would host the event, replacing the “dome” that has to be erected each year, and would also double as a major commercial exhibition and conference venue in for Kerry. Advertisements seeking interest from developers will be placed in media later this month , Mayor Finucane said, igniting a long term ambition by the people of Tralee and the festival organisers.A 2,000 seat event centre that will accommodate a year round exhibition area for the festival, as well as hosting major sporting events conferences and large scale commercial events is the focus . Kerry needs a venue for major homes exhibitions and such and Tralee has lost out in major public sector conferences in recent years, the mayor explained.

IT’S ONLY A JOKE DONALD TRUMP SAYS TO MIKE PENCE, “The less immigrants we allow in, the better.” Pence says, “The fewer”. Trump says, “I told you not to call me that yet.”

I WENT IN FOR MY PHYSICAL, AND MY DOCTOR SUGGESTED, “DON’T EAT ANYTHING FATTY” I asked, “like bacon and burgers?” He said, “no, fatty, don’t eat anything!”

A BRUNETTE, REDHEAD, AND BLONDE GOT SENTENCED TO EXECUTION IN FRONT OF A FIRING SQUAD

The brunette went first. Seeing that the soldiers were a little naive, she waited until they raised their rifles and yelled “TORNADO!”. The soldiers panicked and ran and in the ensuing confusion the brunette escaped. They then beought out the redhead. She waited until the soldiers raised their rifles and yelled “FLOOD!”. Again the soldiers ran for cover and she was able to escape. The blonde was then brought out. Ahe decided to try and mimic her friends. So, as the soldiers raised their rifles, she yelled “FIRE!”...

AN ELDERLY GERMAN MAN VISITS HIS PRIEST FOR CONFESSION...

An elderly man in Germany walks into a confessional box after feeling the urge that he needed to confess. Man: Forgive me father, for I have sinned. During the great war I hid a Jewish refugee in my attic. Priest: Well, that’s not a sin my son, but rather a heroic act of great compassion and daring. Man: But I made him agree to pay me 20 marks for each week he stayed. Priest: I must admit, that wasn’t a great decision, but I am sure you did it for a good cause.

Man: God bless you father, that puts my mind to rest, just one more question however... Priest: Yes my son? Man: Do I have to tell him the war is over?

THOUGHTS AFTER A NIGHT OF PASSION...

Woman: Yeah we were good together tonight . We’re laying next to each other. He’s looking at the ceiling, thinking. I’m a bit worried. What’s he thinking about? I’m sure it’s about our relationship. He’s frowning, but he doesn’t say a thing, he’s just starting up. He’s probably calculating, thinking that we’re in a relationship for a bit over two years now. He probably noticed that I’ve gained some weight. Ooh, he’s pursing his lips now, he must’ve come to a decision. But he’s silent, just starting at the ceiling with an angry expression on his face. Man: That fly up there. It’s crawling around. Why the hell doesn’t it fall down!?

AN OLD MAN WAS LAYING ON HIS DEATH BED

With only hours to live, he suddenly noticed the scent of chocolate chip cookies coming from the kitchen. With his last bit of energy, the old man pulled himself out from his bed, across the floor to the stairs, and down the stairs to the kitchen. There, the old man’s wife was baking chocolate chip cookies. With his last ounce of energy, the old man reached for a cookie. His wife, however, quickly smacked him across the back of his hand, and exclaimed, “Leave them alone, they’re for the funeral!”

I ONCE GAVE MY HUSBAND THE SILENT TREATMENT FOR AN ENTIRE WEEK... At the end of which he declared, “Hey, we’re getting along pretty great lately!”

As ye know I’m a porkaholic. I love every part of the famous pig... I’d eat the squeal if I could.! So here is one for Pork chops. I like the bone in but of course you can have without also...its nearly as tasty!

PORK CHOPS

WITH RADISHES AND CHARRED SCALLIONS

Pair rich, smoky charred meats with crisp, acidic vegetables. This helps refresh the palate between bites.

INGREDIENTS • • • • • • • • • • •

1 tablespoon aniseed or fennel seeds 4 (1-inch-thick) bone-in pork chops (about 4 pounds total), patted dry Sea salt, freshly ground pepper 1 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes 3 tablespoons olive oil, divided; plus more for grill 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice 1 teaspoon finely chopped rinsed salt-packed anchovy fillet 3 radishes, trimmed, thinly sliced on a mandoline 1/4 cup parsley leaves with tender stems 2 bunches scallions, roots trimmed A spice mill or mortar and pestle

METHOD Toast aniseed in a dry small pan over medium heat, tossing often, until fragrant, about 2 minutes. Let cool; coarsely grind in spice mill or with mortar and pestle. Season pork chops all over with salt and pepper; sprinkle with aniseed and red pepper flakes. Let sit at room temperature 30 minutes. Prepare a grill for medium-high heat; brush grate with oil. Grill chops, moving around on grate to avoid flare-ups, until deep golden brown on both sides and an instant-read thermometer inserted into the thickest part registers 75c 8–10 minutes. Transfer chops to a plate and let rest 10 minutes. Meanwhile, whisk lemon juice, anchovy, and 2 Tbsp. oil in a medium bowl to combine. Add radishes and parsley and toss to coat. Toss scallions on a rimmed baking sheet with remaining 1 Tbsp. oil; season with salt and pepper. Grill scallions directly on grate, turning once, until lightly charred, about 2 minutes. Transfer scallions to a platter, set pork chops on top, and scatter radish salad over.

WHAT’S HAPPENING in Tralee...

Beauty

HELLO BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE! I hope you’re all having an amazing week.

You may remember in the summer I hosted the first Beyond Beauty Teenage Workshop, well this week I am launching the second one. The second Beyond Beauty Workshop will take place throughout the February midterm from Monday 17th - Friday 21st 12pm - 3pm. The workshop’s aim is to help teens in a few specific areas including skincare, health & wellbeing, makeup application, confidence building, and how to positively use social media. Throughout the week the teens will also be creating a vision board in the workshop that displays who they are and what makes them feel beautiful, confident and happy. Topics that will be covered throughout the week include: • Discovering your skin type • Cleansing, toning and moisturising • Why having acne isn’t your fault or identity • Glowy skin • Foundation matching 101 • Makeup brushes • Eyelash application • How to be more confident • Positive mentality talks • How to benefit positively from using social media • How to be more self aware • Vision board creating There will be a lot more topics covered and I always like to chat to the group and see what topics they are most interested in learning. From doing the last workshop I saw the teens really enjoy themselves and make new friends! As well as becoming more comfortable in their own individuality. I am so so excited to be bringing the second Beyond Beauty Workshop to Meadowlands Hotel Tralee! I think workshops like this are really helpful for teens to learn and express themselves in a safe and supervised enviornment. Everyone is welcome and at the last workshop there were plenty of teens who attended alone, others attended with friends. If you have any further questions you can email me at rebecca.shortt94@gmail.com. Tickets are available on EVENTBRITE.IE, just search ‘Beyond Beauty Teenage Workshop’

Hello strong people!

I hope you’re all having an amazing week. It’s January, maybe at the start of 2020 you promised yourself this year was the year you would take care of yourself, put yourself first, exercise, be more mindful of what you’re eating… maybe you haven’t done that, but that’s ok. You just need to be self aware. You need to sit down and talk to yourself. You need to think about what you prioritise in your life and why you want to achieve certain things. WHY do you want to exercise? WHY do you want to be more mindful of what you’re eating.

When you sit down and ask yourself these questions, you find your WHY. That will motivate you everyday to get up and do what you have promised yourself you will do. WHY? Because you hav e purpose. You have a goal. And you are the only person who can make those steps to achieveing what you want this year. I think it’s very important to be self aware. To realise when you’re putting things off, being lazy, critical, thinking you can’t do something. When you’re self aware you can re-evalute certain aspects of your life and ask yourself, “Am I doing things that are working towards the person I want to be?”... Motivation becomes easy when you know WHY you want something, and it’s not because you feel motivated all the time… it’s because you know why you’re striving towards something. I think about this a lot, when it comes to me personally I know WHY I go to the gym and train 5 days a week. It’s because I love how it makes me feel. I feel strong, clear minded, and happier in myself. I know i am doing something to make my body feel better. I know my 2020 goal is to get in the best shape I’ve ever been in. I know I want to do this because I know my body and mind are able. Do I want to be shredded and have a year round 6 pack? NO. The best shape of my life for me might look different than what yours looks like. And that is fine. I just know that I love going to to gym for all the benefits my mind and body feels. When it comes to exercise and working out, you need to think about it as doing something positive and worthwhile for yourself. Saying things like ‘I hate the gym, I hate exercise, I hate working out’, will only re inforce negative emotions. You should be grateful that your body has the strength and the abilty to wrok out. You should be grateful that you are doing something for you. When you change your mindset, everything changes. Try it out this week, see how you feel, discover your WHY.

Lee Strand wins prestigious European Environmental Award in Spain Lee Strand was presented with a prestigious award at the European Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS) Award Ceremony in the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, Spain recently. The awards organised by the European Commission recognise environmental excellence, commitment to environmental management and continuous improvement of environmental performance. The theme of this year’s awards was “Driver of Change”. Following the awards ceremony Jerry Dwyer, Milk Operations Manager stated “Lee Strand has a strong commitment to producing high quality products, sourcing our milk from farms who operate sustainably and adhering to environmental excellence in our milk operations. We are delighted to be recognised on the European stage with the frontrunners in the industry.

The recent launch of our new environmentally friendly carton which is the world’s first fully renewable pack also shows our commitment to environmental excellence in order to protect the environment for the next generation. Our packaging innovation is 100% Renewable and 100% Recyclable and offers customers a fully renewable carton and cap that is made from materials that can be traced back to their plant-based source.” EMAS is a voluntary environmental management tool that organisations use to increase resource efficiency and savings, reduce environmental impacts, ensure legal compliance and report to stakeholders in a transparent manner. ‘Have Your Say On The Green’ – Council Invites Submissions On Tralee Town Park

Members of the public are being invited to have their say on the future of Tralee Town Park. Kerry County Council is currently developing a strategic plan for the park and is inviting submissions and opinions from park users and the wider public.

Tralee Town Park, affectionately known as ‘The Green’, is located in the heart of Tralee town and is one of the largest urban public parks in Ireland. It covers an area of 35 acres and comprises manicured gardens, walkways, a wide array of tree species, a community garden, the Rose Garden, a large playground and much more. Tralee Municipal District of Kerry County Council is asking people to complete an online survey which can be found on the homepage of Kerry County Council’s website www.kerrycoco.ie. Copies of the survey are also available at County Buildings in Rathass, Tralee Library and the Tralee Municipal District offices at Princes Quay. Local secondary schools have also come on board and will be out and about over the coming Friday 17th January 2020

weeks in Tralee Town Centre encouraging and assisting the general public to complete the surveys. Mayor of Tralee, Cllr Jim Finucane said that the Town Park was a gem at the heart of Tralee and that its future development must have the input of the general public at its heart.

‘This wonderful amenity belongs to the people of Tralee and the wider county so we want to hear what they have to say – what should be done to improve facilities, how can the park be improved, what more needs to be done to promote the park. I also want to thank the local Secondary Schools for coming forward to work with the Council to encourage everyone to complete the survey’. Municipal District Officer, Jean Foley, said: ‘The strategy being

developed will examine the resources, facilities, activities and potential uses of The Green to determine how the current provisions can be improved for all to enjoy.‘The community’s views are fundamental in the formation of this strategy. As a first step in the consultation process, Kerry County Council has developed this questionnaire

to assist in ascertaining your views and vision. We are encouraging everyone to have their say.’The closing date for receipt of completed surveys is Friday 21 February 2020. The initiative is supported by Tralee Chamber Alliance, IT Tralee, North East and West Kerry Development and local secondary schools. TRALEE ADVERTISER

CONFUSED BUYERS BEING RUSHED INTO EVS, TOYOTA CHIEF CLAIMS

Plans by the outgoing Government to ban diesel and petrol are causing confusion for people thinking of buying a new car this year, a senior motoring executive warns today. Not alone is the planned imposition of a ban on the sale of new diesel and petrols from 2030 confusing buyers, it is, according to Toyota chief executive Steve Tormey, also in contravention of EU competition laws.Denmark made headlines in October 2018 when it announced it would ban the sale of all fossil fuel-powered cars by 2030, only to subsequently scrap the idea because it would have breached EU rules.Mr Tormey says the same could apply to Ireland. He claims people are being ‘rushed’ into buying electric even though it might not suit them yet. It is also holding people back from deciding what to buy for what will be a major transition to electrification by 2030. “The issue for the market place is choice of powertrain. Is it petrol or diesel or whatever? The thing is that electric vehicles (EVs) are still not right for rural customers especially,” he said.Mr Tormey predicts that EV technology will improve significantly over the next few years, for sure, but that’s not of much use to motorists buying today. That chimes with his overall claim that some people are rushing to EVs too soon. He cites Norway as being ‘right’ for EVs. But unlike Norway, where 95pc of electricity comes from hydro power, Mr Tormey argues: “You could claim that in Ireland we are forcing people to use dirty power (from coal) to drive an EV.” He remains insistent that rural drivers are the ones most likely to suffer under an EV-or-nothing scenario in 2030. “For most rural drivers to get out of diesels and into EVs is not an option; the real-life choice should be hybrid.”But if that is the case why did the Government take away the €1,500 incentive from so many hybrids in the Budget? He reckons it is trying to spread the load around other lower-emission cars. “Politically it is easy to understand that an EV is a zero-emissions car,” he said. But EVs are the longer-term future, surely? So when can we expect the first mass-production EV from Toyota? “The first EV from Toyota will be 2023. Global demand for hybrids is such that we can’t provide EVs at the moment; we can make 50 hybrids for one electric.” And there is the expectation that next-generation EVs will have much more to offer. Anyway, with all the uncertainty how will newcar sales go this year? “We think diesel and petrol will be 35pc/36pc (market share) each; hybrids 15pc and EVs around 5pc,” he said, adding he reckons hybrids will be part of the 2030 equation; he can’t see a way they will not be registered for rural Ireland in particular. But right now: “We need to be careful about scaremongering people into buying EVs.” Ultimately, Mr Tormey says, the best potential to achieve the Government’s 2030 Climate Action Plan goals lies in a mix of alternatively powered vehicles. COST OF FAST-CHARGING WILL BE AROUND €4.30 FOR 100KMS

Drivers of electric vehicles have changed their routine and behaviour since facing the prospect of paying to boost their battery at a public fast-charging point.Prices were introduced in November for general use of the fast-charging network - as well as levies for anyone who is hogging a charging slot.Since then, according to the ESB, there has been a fall-off in energy used because fewer people are using them.A spokeswoman told the Irish Independent there had been “a decrease in energy consumption” across its fast-charging network since pricing kicked in.She also claimed the overstay (hogging) fee is freeing chargers for those who need a quick top-up for driving longer distances - which is what they are there for.The ESB introduced pricing for use of the 50kW fast chargers on November 18.It is estimated that it costs an average of €4.30 to boost a battery’s range by 100km.

UBER TO LAUNCH FLYING CAR TAXI SERVICE

UBER will launch a flying car taxi service in some of the most evocative locations in the world after teaming up with motoring firm Hyundai. The two firms have teamed together to launch a prototype for a self-driving flying car which could be available from 2023. The concept aims to reduce congestion in major cities and could even reach speeds of up to 180 miles per hour. The vehicle could have a range of up to 60 miles when launched in a major revelation for commuters into city centres. The fully-electric flying car could even be recharged in just five minutes in peak traffic to enable an efficient passenger ride service for residents of major cities. Flying cars are likely will become available to hire as a taxi through the Uber app and could see journey times through dramatically reduced. Hyundai revealed the full-scale model flying car at this week’s Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. However, Hyundai has not yet conducted any test flights or announced how much the new flying machines will cost.Uber have recently announced Los Angeles, Dallas and Melbourne will be the first cities to offer flights from 2023. However, the group have said they will work closely with city stakeholders to create and expand their aerial ride-sharing network. They say the technology will be safe, quiet and will support existing transport networks currently in place. To aid the growth of the vehicle in major cities, Uber has said the car will be environmentally conscious.(credit Daily Express)

DRIVING WITHOUT YOUR GLASSES COULD SEE MOTORISTS HIT WITH FINES OR PROSECUTION

MOTORISTS could be fined and prosecuted for failing to wear their glasses when behind the wheel in a dramatic safety law catching out UK and Irish road users. The UK Highway Code (and Irish Code )states motorists must be able to read a car number plate accurately from 20 metres before setting off on a journey. Road users with poor eyesight must always wear their glasses or risk being hit with strict penalties.Motorists could be hit with a £1,000 fine and up to three points on their driving licence for getting behind the wheel with bad vision. However, police officers could charge you for dangerous driving offences in some serious cases which will see penalties increase. If a dangerous driving charge is issued motorists could be forced to pay up to £5,000 and could even face jail time in some extreme circumstances. Research has shown one in eight motorists decide to not always wear their glasses while driving in a potential safety risk. Driving without your glasses will reduce your road visibility which can increase the chance of suffering a car crash. Friday 17th January 2020

FAI NATIONAl P.R.O. OF THE YEAR WARRIOR’S HOPES OF RETAINING SUPERLEAGUE TITLE COULD BE DECIDED OFF THE COURT: While the battle for Garvey’s Tralee Warriors to retain their SuperLeague title was always going to be difficult events that have come to light could make it a lot harder. As the team were going down in their second Cup semi-final it emerged that there could be an issue with the registration of one of their players. The club has now received the official correspondence from Basketball Ireland to confirm this. The statement reads “The MNCC (Men’s National Competitions Committee) at Basketball Ireland met to review the registration of a Garvey’s Tralee Warriors player and decided that the player was not registered with Basketball Ireland for three Super League games. Thus, the MNCC has decided to implement the penalties as outlined in the rulebook. “As Garvey’s Tralee Warriors have the right to appeal this decision through the normal appeals procedure, the MNCC or Basketball Ireland will be making no further comment on this matter.” The club has also been contacted for a comment and while it confirms that Basketball Ireland has been in contact it cannot make any statements as the appeals process has started. Having covered the Garvey’s games since they returned to the SuperLeague they have been an organisation that has done everything to the highest standards both on and off the court. They draw the biggest crowds to their home games and enjoy a big travelling support and have given the fans many memorable moments including a number of trophy winning ones. Behind the scenes there is a very experienced committee and an army of volunteers. The committee has brought two vastly experienced coaches to the club with Pat Price having taken over from Mark Bernsen. Those involved with the club have lots of experience in signing players so hopefully the issue that has been raised by Basketball Ireland is just a glitch – from the word around it is Friday 17th January 2020

something small. Under rule this could lead to the deduction of points from the three SuperLeague games as mentioned in the Basketball Ireland statement and this would be a big blow to their hopes of retaining the title. Fingers crossed this won’t be the case. The Warriors have a big game at ‘home’ this Saturday night when they welcome DCU Saints to the Community Centre in Castleisland starting at 7.30pm. The Dublin side have 6 wins and there are no easy games in the SuperLeague. Hopefully the Tralee side can put the off court issues out of their mind and get another win. But they have to do it without the player who eligibility is in question as it is very unlikely that the appeals process will have come to a conclusion by this Saturday night. SECOND CUP SEMI-FINAL LOSS A TOUGH ONE FOR THE WARRIORS: When the history of this Warriors franchise is written the Cup semifinals in Cork won’t make for good reading. Last Sunday they lost at this stage for the second year in a row. This time it was DBS Eanna who took the win and continued their very impressive return to the basketball’s top flight. The Warriors defeated the same side in their most recent League game and travelled to Cork with high hopes. And they made a good start but the sides were tied 14-14 at the end of the first quarter. The Warriors again made a good start to the second quarter and opened a 7 point gap but Eanna fought back before an Andrew Berry basket put them 2 up at the break 26-24. The Warriors once again made the best start in the third quarter and big scores put them up 6 again before Eanna hit 14 of the next 16 points to see them up by 6 with just ten minutes to play. Another scoring burst from the Dublin side saw them continue to lead and with both sides in foul trouble Eanna more clinical display from the line kept them in control and they ran out 13 point winners to move on to face Griffith College Templeogue in the final. For the Warriors Paul Dick and Daniel Jokubaitis both ended with 14 while Eoin Quigley and Rap Buivydas hit 11 each. LOCAL BASKETBALL: In the Kerry Airport Kerry Area

Basketball scene Tralee Tigers were 49-47 winners over GlenbeighFalcons in Mens Division 2 Pool A while in the u18 Boys Division 1 St Brendan’s BC were 79-62 over KCYMS in Moyderwell. The St Brendan’s team also won in Division 2 Pool B defeating TK Vixens 56-47. In the underage section there were defeats for St Brendan’s to St Pauls in the u14 Girls Division 2 League and in the Shield they also lost out narrowly to St Colmans Sparks 2934. In the Boys u16 Boys Division 3 St Brendan’s beat St Colman’s 74-35. GREAT NEWS FOR NA GAEIL AS THEY REACH THE ALL IRELAND FINAL: History continues to be made by this Na Gaeil side and they have now got a date with destiny in the All Ireland Junior Final in Croke Park. The game will take place in Croke Park on Saturday January 25th throwing in a 3.15pmwith Kerry facing Dublin later that day in their opening League encounter. The Tralee side were pushed all the way by Mayo’s Kilmaine with extra time needed to separate the sides. Na Gaeil opened the brighter but conceded a goal and the sides were level at the break 0-06 to 1-03. Na Gaeil’s defence began to get on top and at the other end when Dan O’Connor was hauled down they were expecting the referees whistle to blow but he didn’t. The Mayo side fought back and hit three points to level matters. Na Gaeil them looked to have done enough to win as a Dara Devine point followed by one from Eoin Walsh saw them go two up as the game entered injury time. Kilmaine got one back and then after a scramble for possession following the kick out the referee reckoned the ball was touched on the ground by a Na Gaeil player. Credit to Adam Barrett he slotted over the free kick from 45meters out to send the game into extra time. The players had given everything on a soft pitch and extra time would be a big test. The Na Gaeil players showed great heart and points from Dan Goggin and Diarmuid O’Connor they led by 2 entering the second half of extra time. A combination of great defending and wastefulness by the Mayo side, they kicked four wides inside the last few minutes, saw them unable to close the gap and Na Gaeil progressed to the biggest game in their history. FANS SET TO MAKE THE TRIP TO CROKE PARK: There will be a huge exodus to Croke Park on the 25th and fans looking to travel on the club bus must pre-book – costing e25 for adults and e10 for juveniles – by calling into the club house or

through any officer. Supporters are also encouraged to display their colours with hats, flags and children’s wristbands on sale in the clubhouse. NA GAEIL NOTES: Continuing on with the Na Gaeil notes and the training for the Na Gaeil Men and Ladies who are looking for some exercise continues each week with new members are always welcome. There was no winner of the Lotto from the numbers drawn 1,2,3,6 and the next Jackpot was e3,400 with the draw taking place on Tuesday nights. The regular off field activities continue each week at the club with Bingo on Monday nights from 8.30pm and Cards on Wednesday nights from 9.30 with everyone from novice to experienced welcome to play 45. Goals win games: It was the old saying that came back to haunt IT Tralee as they crashed out the Sigerson Cup 3-09 to 1-13. After a low scoring first half with David Clifford kicking points the home side led 0-07 to 0-05 in the Austin Stacks Park. IT Tralee then pushed on and a goal from Barry John Keane put them in control. Carlow narrowed the gap to 2 points before a penalty put the visitors in front and they added another goal late on to secure the win. This loss means that the college side now face a relegation play-off this weekend where they will take on Athlone IT on the UL 3G pitch at 1pm. Athlone also were surprising losers going down to Letterkenny IT. Extra time will be played on Sunday if required. It will be interesting to hear how the teams get on playing on an astro turf pitch but with the recent weather both teams know the game will go ahead and the surface will not be a tough muddy one. PARNELLS UNDERAGE BACK TRAINING: The Parnell’s u6’s boys and girls, the u8 and u10 boys begin their seasons training in the new IT Sports Academy on Friday 21st of February from 7 to 8pm. The cost to players is e15 for the 6 week spring Academy. All Academy groups return to outdoor hurling in Caherslee the week ending March 29th. AUSTIN STACKS NEWS: The training for the underage players continues at the weekend. The u6’s train from 11am in Mounthawk School Hall. The u8’s are in the same venue an hour earlier. New members are always welcome to come along and enjoy the fun aspects of underage training. The u10’s are at the All Weather in the Green CBS from 11.30am. The 12’s will have their first season of the New Year this Sunday at 4pm in the Sports Hall at the new Kerry Sports Academy in the North Campus. The squads will be

ST PAT’S NEWS: There was no winner of the Lotto from the numbers drawn 1,3, 22 and 30 with the next jackpot being e2,100 and the draw on Sunday night in Skelper Quane’s Bar. However, 12 brave locals cycled the route at 2pm to mark the anniversary. Celebrations continued on Saturday night with an anniversary Mass in Curraheen at 7:30pm, followed by a music session in Quanes Bar, where food & refreshments were served afterwards. Chorca Dhuibhne for a fantastic hard fought battle, with great sportsmanship from both teams. Tralee took the spoils but it was a fantastic game and played in the spirit the game should be. Tralee Ladies played Ballincollig at home today in the division 1 league. It was an emotional day as Riona Kennedy played her last home game in the blue and white for Tralee. In what is always a tough match Tralee started well keeping Ballincollig pinned in their own half and two converted penalties from Laoise O’Driscoll gave the home side a 6-0 lead. Tralee then added a try which came after Riona Kennedy made a great line break and gave the perfect off load to Vanessa Din een 5 metres out and she crashed over. The 5 points became 7 when O’Driscoll landed the conversion and Tralee were 13-0 up at the break. Ballincolling got back into the game with a converted try to narrow the gap to 13-7. Both sides went looking for the next score and it was the Tralee girls that got it when Aine Enright went over in the last minute to secure an 18-7 win. Tralee are away to Shannon next Sunday 19th which will be Riona Kennedy’s final game. Riona has played with Tralee for 10years and has been the heart of the team. She has captained the ladies for several years and has been a mentor to the younger girls on the team, is the most amazing, talented and inspirational woman, is the heart of Tralee ladies and will be truly missed.
