LEGAL MATTERS CORNER MIRIAM MC GILLICUDDY ANSWERS YOUR LEGAL QUERIES A day in the Sun As the days are getting longer Alicia is thinking of booking her sun holiday as well as hoping for a sun soaked Irish summer and wants to stock up on her summer sun gear. She is wondering about buying a pair of sunglasses. She feels she needs them as well for driving e.g. in a strong sunset or glare off snow and ice in the winter. Our eyes being sensitive to light can suffer as a result of exposure to Ultraviolet rays. Sunglasses perform two key roles they filter strong light and protect our eyes from damaging UV rays. In addition the filter should provide protection from polarisation which is the light reflected off surfaces like water or glass. If sunglasses are to provide the necessary protection from eye problems like cataracts, macular degeneration and skin cancer around the eyelids they need to meet safety requirements. Arising from EU safety standards then sunglasses must 1. Have a CE Mark on them that verify that they meet European safety standards and have passed the necessary tests. 2. Set out the class of UV protection provided by the sunglasses which can go from O ( none) to 4 ( full UV protection) 3. There should be an information note attached to the sunglasses containing the model the name and address of the manufacturer, the standard, type and category of the

filter and instructions for cleaning. For category 4 filters there should be a warning not to wear them while driving as they are too strong. Personal protective equipment under the Safety Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005 includes sunglasses and these can be subject to scrutiny by the health and safety authority when used at work. The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission has responsibility to check that personal protective equipment used in leisure pursuits or in the home complies with the law which would include sunglasses. While driving it appears that one should wear appropriate glasses for good vision and sunglasses for glare but category 4 sunglasses are too shaded for driving and indeed even category 3 might be too shaded for night driving. Ideally there should be warnings on the darker shades in relation to not driving especially at night with them on. Not wearing appropriate eyewear can run one into trouble if there is an accident e.g. vision not good enough or not pulling in in strong sunshine if one has no “shades”. In the UK Rule 237 of the Highway Code says drivers must slow down or pull over if dazzled by bright sunlight - so if you don’t, and you’re not wearing sunglasses to protect you from the glare then you could be convicted of careless driving in the UK. Law quip: “The future’s so bright, I gotta wear shades.” — Timbuk 3

Details of over 65,000 Kerry graves revealed Ancestry®, the global leader in family history and consumer genomics, alongside its sister website FindAGrave has released an update to its collection of Irish grave recordsThe updated national online collection of over 594,000 Irish graves and memorials and 3,000 cemeteries is available on Ancestry® via FindAGrave. com. The records include user generated photos and GPS coordinates which provide details of Irish graves across the country and listings of individual memorials and grave records on a county-by-county basis. Ancestry® spokesperson, Joe Buggy, said:“The history of the Kingdom of Kerry is enriched with the addition of 65,000 graves now recorded online, Kerry has one of the largest cemetery and grave concentrations in Ireland. The FindAGrave site is a real key to help people unlock their family’s stories. When they are used in combination with the over 20 billion records on Ancestry.ie, they can be a great way to add detail to your family tree as well as offering

a physical location where you can go to connect with the people in your past.” Records of some of Kerry’s most famous deceased individuals, which can be found in the updated Ancestry® collection, are detailed below. Tom Crean 1877 - 1938 Kerryman and Antarctic explorer Tom Crean made three expeditions to the southern continent including the infamous ‘Endurance’ adventure with Ernest Shackleton from 1914 to 1916.He survived for months on ice floes after his ship was crushed and sank. Crean fought in the First World War, and retired from the Navy in 1920 after 27 years of service. Tom Crean spent more time in the Antarctic region than either Scott or Shackleton, and outlived them both.Crean is buried in his native Anascaul, County Kerry. Monsignor Hugh O’ Flaherty 1898 - 1963 Religious figure and World War II Resistance man Hugh O’ Flaherty was born in County Kerry. He became a Catholic priest and was ordained in Rome, Italy on December 20, 1925.During

World War II, Monsignor O’Flaherty ran a network that helped Jews and allied pilots escape Nazi persecution, and is estimated to have saved about 4,000 people. Hugh O’Flaherty’s exploits earned him the nickname the “Scarlet Pimpernel of the Vatican” and his story is told in the movie “The Scarlet and the Black”. He is buried behind the Daniel O’Connell Memorial Church in Cahirciveen, County Kerry. Peig Sayers 1873 - 1958 Storyteller Peig Sayers developed a reputation as a seanachaí, an Irish word indicating a tale teller or oral historian. Sean O’Sullivan, author of “Folktales of Ireland,” once said she was among the last great Irish storytellers. In the late 1920s Dr. Robin Flower, Keeper of Manuscripts at the British Museum, traveled to the Great Blasket Island to record her tales. She

dictated her biography in Gaelic to her son Micheál in 1936, the manuscript was published as ‘Peig: The Autobiography of Peig Sayers of the Great Blasket Island’. Beginning in 1938, she related her tales to the Irish Folklore Commission. In 1942 she returned to the town of her birth, Vicarstown, and in 1947 RTE’s Travel Unit visited, recording over an hour of her stories. She was moved to a hospital in Dingle a few years later where Sean O’Sullivan recorded more of her repertoire. She died in hospital at age 85.

IT’S ONLY A JOKE AT A HOTEL RESTAURANT, A MAN SEES AN ATTRACTIVE WOMAN SITTING ALONE AT THE NEXT TABLE.

Suddenly, she sneezes, and a glass eye comes flying out of her eye socket. It hurls by the man, and he snatches it from the air and hands it back to her. “This is so embarrassing,” the woman says, and she pops her eye back in place. “I’m sorry to have disturbed you. Let me buy dinner to make it up to you. May I join you?” He nods. The woman is a stimulating conversationalist, stunningly pretty, and the man finds they have a lot in common. He gets her phone number and asks, “You are the most charming woman I’ve ever encountered. Are you this nice to every guy you meet?” “No,” she replies. “You just happened to catch my eye.”

A HIGHLY SUCCESSFUL MANAGER WAS GOING HOME IN HIS CAR WHEN HE SAW TWO MEN ALONG THE ROADSIDE EATING GRASS...

Astonished by the sight, he ordered his driver to stop and got out to investigate. He asked one man “Why are you eating grass?”“We don’t have any money for food,” the poor man replied. “We have to eat grass.” “Well, then, you can come with me to my house and I’ll feed you” the manager said. “But sir, I have a wife and five children with me. They are over there, under that tree”. “Bring them along,” the manager replied. Turning to the other poor man he stated, “You come with us also.” The second man, in a pitiful voice then said, “But sir, I also have a wife and seven children with me!”

“Bring them all, as well,” the manager answered. They all entered the car, which was no easy task, even for a car as large as it was. One of the poor fellows turned to the Manager and said, “Sir, you are too kind. Thank you for taking all of us with you.” The manager replied, “Glad to do it. You’ll really love my place; the grass is almost 1 meter high!”

TWO BLONDE PILOTS...

On their first commercial flight together two blonde pilots, best friends for years, are finally flying together after years of being co-pilots for more experienced captains. The cockpit was finally theirs. The flight goes very smoothly and they congratulate each other as they are coming into land. As they approach the runway it is obvious they are going much too fast. The back wheels of the plane barely touch asphalt before they leave then airstrip entirely, the plane barreling through tall grass until they crash directly into the side of the airport. Clearing debris from her face the pilot says to her co-polite “Oh my god... Did you see that? That runway was way too short!” “Yeah, but it must’ve been 2 miles wide!”

MY WIFE AND I WERE HAPPY FOR TWENTY YEARS. Then we met.

Answer The amount of tax that you have to pay depends on your personal circumstances. Tax is charged as a percentage of your income. The amount that you actually pay depends on your income and on the tax credits and reliefs that you are eligible for. The first part of your income, up to a certain amount, is taxed at 20%. This is known as the standard rate of tax and the amount that it applies to is the standard rate tax band. If you have income above the standard rate tax band, it is taxed at the higher rate of tax, which is 40% (also called the marginal rate). The amount that you can earn before you start to pay the higher rate of tax is your standard rate cut-off point. There were no changes to tax rates and bands in 2020. The standard rate of tax is 20% and the higher rate is 40%. Personal circumstances Single person Married couple/civil partners, one income Married couple/civil partners, two incomes

TECHNOLOGY CORNER with Billy O Meara (HRI Services)

Billy simplifies and explains Todays Technology

Windows 7 has reach End Of Life (EOL) on 14 January 2020,

but a large number of the world's computers, most in corporate environments, are still running the nine-year-old system. Microsoft ended mainstream support for Windows 7 in January 2015, with extended support running till 14 January 2020. Businesses which fail to migrate in time will be saddled with high fees for further support from Microsoft. This End of Life means no more bug-fixes, security patches or new functionality, making any user - personal or enterprise - significantly more susceptible to malware attacks. You can of course still use your Windows 7 Device but I would not advise you to do any online banking. You can upgrade to Windows 10 easily enough by downloading the upgrade tool from Microsoft .In most cases if you have a valid Windows 7 Licence the upgrade should be free But be prepared to spend some time in front of your device during the upgrade. But if you have any special software check its compatibility to Windows 10.

Laptop Battery wont charge

Add porridge oats, yogurt, eggs and essence into a blender and blitz until smooth. Leave to stand for 20 minutes Using a nice non stick frying pan spray with low calorie cooking spray and ladle your mixture into small pancakes once you start to see air bubbles form you can flip them to cook the other side. Grill Bacon until Crispy And assemble once cooked , Drizzle maple syrup and enjoy ! This is just an example of some of the fabulous free foods we use on the Slimming World plan. Why not pop along to one of my groups to find out how you can eat delicious foods like this and lose weight. (Laurens Slimming World group are Saturday mornings in Tralee ,9.30am & 11.30 am St Johns Parish Centre, and Dingle on Thursday mornings 9.30am, WK Fitness

If Your battery won’t charge then it is more likely that its needs replacing. Over the lifetime of your battery it can lose the ability to hold its charge. Normally after a few years it will degrade. On most laptops its very simple to change the battery just pop it out and get a replacement There is a good website that you can purchase a new one relative cheap. https://www.laptopbatteries.ie Average cost is €40 plus delivery. Here are some tips to make your battery last longer 1. Activate battery saver mode. (if Available) 2. Unplugged unused peripherals. (USB memory,Mouse) 3. Plug it in before it dies. ... 4. Keep your laptop out of hot and cold. ... 5. Have enough RAM. ... 6. Don't keep your laptop plugged in. ... 7. Turn down screen brightness. ... 8. Turn off Wi-Fi and Bluetooth

Strengthen and Support your Immune System Your immune system is precisely that – a system, not a single entity. To function well it requires balance and harmony. Poor diet, lack of exercise and stress, all have a negative effect on our immune system. Most people cannot afford “down time”. Missing work or school, or re-arranging schedules is inconvenient, to say the least. Your immune system does a remarkable job of defending you against illness and disease but sometimes it may struggle. To help it function well try to adapt some of the following strategies: • Try to keep stress levels in check • Don’t smoke • Get regular exercise • Try to adapt a good sleep routine • Maintain a healthy weight • Be aware of the importance of regular health check- ups with your GP, blood pressure etc • Eat a healthy, balanced diet which includes fresh fruit and vegetables To help maintain a healthy immune system there are some excellent natural products available in our health stores for all the family which are well worth checking out. Some of our recommendations are: IMMIFLEX CAPSULES: daily intake of immiflex will secure important nutrients for your immune health such as VIT D and BETA GLUCANS, which will serve the whole family, helping ward off poor health,

minimising the negative effects of stress and increasing resistance for athletes for those who participate in vigorous physical activity. DR WOLZ RANGE OF PRODUCTS: specially formulated for overall immune health, and may help to reduce overall tiredness and fatigue COMVITA WINTER WELLNESS: if you are looking for an effective all in one formula to help support your natural defences and maintain healthy airways, then check out the comvita range of products for all the family. IMMUNE SYSTEM BIOTIX: a unique complex of aged garlic, vitamin D, selenium, zinc and copper, all contribute to the normal function of the immune system. 1 to 2 capsules daily after food. OLIVE LEAF: is antibacterial and antiviral, ideal for fighting off the dreaded winter bugs as well as helping to strengthen the immune system Don’t forget your PROBIOTICS - a healthy gut is a healthy immune system, TerraNova and Viridian are amongst some of our most popular blends As always we are happy to advise which products suit your particular needs.

Until next time, stay healthy.

There’s never been a better time to study at IT Tralee With the opening of a new state-of the art €19 million Kerry Sports Academy and the proposed establishment of the Munster Technological University (MTU), there’s never been a more exciting time to work and study at IT Tralee. The Institute of Technology Tralee will offer over 50 full time undergraduate courses for CAO entry in September 2020. The programmes cover a diverse range of disciplines including Creative Media, Software Development, Business, Nursing, Social Sciences, Health & Leisure, Engineering, Wildlife Biology, Agricultural Science and Pharmaceutical Science. Commenting on the range of courses, Aileen Kennedy, Acting Registrar at the Institute of Technology, Tralee said, “The Institute prides itself on the quality and relevance of its academic programmes and our continuous course development. Each of our courses is developed in close consultation with industry, resulting in relevant and career-focused qualifications for graduates. The Institute ensures that its students are at the core of its activities with a dedicated team of student support services, while the town of Tralee offers high quality recreation and leisure facilities. An integral part of the many programmes on offer for CAO applicants is work placement and industry projects, which allow students to experience authentic work scenarios. This experience results in work-ready

graduates. Brid Mc Elligott, VicePresident, for Research, Development and External Engagement, said this week that the work-placement element of all Honours Degree courses is one of the reasons for the growing interest in attending the institute. “Work experience combined with the curriculum delivered by our committed and dedicated academic team ensures that the graduates of the IT Tralee are work-ready, with over 90% of our honours degree graduates securing work or pursuing further education opportunities such as Master or PhD studies within six months of graduating.” Nationally, IT Tralee is the only Institute of Technology in Ireland to share a campus with a technology park, leading to significant job opportunities for IT Tralee graduates.

This education/enterprise partnership is at the centre of the Institute’s ethos and is completed by the Tom Crean Business Centre, a business incubation centre based on the North Campus. Here students have opportunities to see start-up businesses flourish, or even create their own through Institute initiatives such as Student Inc., a full time programme from June-August each year. Each thriving student entrepreneur receives €4,000 to fund their business, a fully serviced office space in the Tom Crean Centre and expert mentorship and guidance in market research, finance, business planning and much more. Dr Brendan O’Donnell, Acting President of IT Tralee emphasised the importance of the creation of the Munster Technological University (MTU), which will see the

merger of IT Tralee and Cork Institute of Technology. “MTU will bring considerable advantages to the staff and students of the ITT, as well as delivering benefits for the citizens and economy of the region. Both Institutes are committed to achieving Technological University status and we expect designation to occur in 2020” Dr O’Donnell said. For further information about any of IT Tralee’s wide range of full-time and parttime programmes visit www. ittralee.ie and download the current prospectus or contact the Admissions Office at 066 7145638. HEALTHY RECIPES for 2020

Quick n’ Easy... its Teriyaki Time!

This Teriyaki recipe couldn’t be simpler. Its quick and easy ....only takes minutes , not hours and its oh so tasty .There are so many variations !! It calls for boneless chicken breasts, but here’s a secret , thighs would also be delicious.

CLASSIC CHICKEN TERIYAKI

Serves 4

INGREDIENTS • • • • • • • • • • •

1 cup chicken stock 1/3 cup soy sauce 1/3 cup sugar 2 tablespoons mirin 2 tablespoons sake Four 6-ounce skinless, boneless chicken breasts, lightly pounded Salt Freshly ground pepper 2 tablespoons oil 2 large Italian peppers, cut into 1/2-inch strips Steamed short-grain rice, for serving

METHOD IIn a medium saucepan, combine the chicken stock with the soy sauce, sugar, mirin and sake and bring to a boil over high heat, stirring to dissolve the sugar. Reduce the heat to moderate and simmer until the teriyaki sauce is reduced to 1/2 cup and syrupy, about 20 minutes. Meanwhile, season the chicken with salt and pepper. In a large nonstick pan heat 1 tablespoon of the oil. Add the chicken and cook over moderately high heat, turning once, until browned all over and cooked through 8 to 9 minutes. Transfer the chicken to a plate and let stand for 5 minutes Wipe out the pan Add the remaining 1 tablespoon of oil and heat until shimmering. Add the pepper strips and cook over high heat, stirring occasionally, until crisptender and lightly charred, about 3 minutes. Transfer the peppers to plates. Slice the chicken breasts crosswise and transfer to the plates. Drizzle the teriyaki sauce over the chicken and serve with rice

WHAT’S HAPPENING in Tralee...

Beauty

HELLO BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE! I hope you’re all having an amazing week.

As you may or may not know, since June 2019 I’ve been using cruelty free makeup only, a change that I thought would be a lot more difficult. Obviously, being a working Makeup Artist, Beauty Editor and YouTuber, I have a lot of makeup, and a lot of that wasn’t Cruelty Free. What is Cruelty Free Makeup? Cruelty-free cosmetics is a category containing all cosmetics that have not been tested on animals. When I made the switch I realized just how many cruelty free brands there are. So I said after nearly a year I would share my favorite brands, and a star product from each brand. NOTE COSMETICS I’ve mentioned the Sculpt Master Mascara more than once, and that’s because it’s the best one I have used. EVER.

WET N WILD One of the most affordable brands ever, and such good quality! Their MegaGlo Highlighter in Precious Petals is insane!

IT COSMETICS The CC+ cream from IT is just so nice on my skin, I love it!

TOO FACED Born This Way Foundation, one of my favourite foundations of 2019.

FENTY BEAUTY You already know the Fenty Gloss Bomb is the best lipgloss I have ever used.

ANASTASIA BEVERLY HILLS ABH X AMREZY Eyeshadow Palette. I literally only got this last week but oh my god. If you follow me on Instagram (@rebeccashortt) or YouTube ‘Rebecca Shortt’ you know that I was so amazed with the quality of these eyeshadows! So many makeup brands are indeed Cruelty Free such as SOSU By SJ, Inglot, Kylie Cosmetics, Jeffree Star Cosmetics, Hourglass, BECCA, KKW Beauty, Tarte, ELF, Morphe, NYX & so many more. Because so many brands are indeed Cruelty Free I honestly don’t see the need to buy or support the other brands.

Friday 24th January 2020

CHARLOTTE TILBURY The Magic Cream was the best investment I made into my skin last year. WOW. I also use it on all my makeup clients.

MILANI COSMETICS This is a ‘drugstore’/ pharmacy brand, so affordable! The Luminoso blush is a must for me.

URBAN DECAY An OG brand for me. I have loved their products since day one. The Naked Concealer & All Nighter Setting Spray are two products I could not live without.

BEXBLAH

FITNESS!

Get your business noticed in Tralee’s favourite Friday read

Hello strong people!

I hope you’re all having an amazing week. For the past year I stopped tracking my food on myfitnesspal consistently, just to give myself a break, I don’t want to have to rely on tracking macros forever, you know yourself. I have started to track them again just to remain accountable to myself and make sure I’m making the right progress. I have serious gym and body goals for 2020, so tracking my macros will help those.

find a reputable personal trainer (who knows about nutrition) and discuss it with them. Otherwise you can download the free JSA (James Smith Academy) app and calculate them there.

I tracked macros consistently for most of my progress and I found it worked really well for me.

Tracking macros is not for everyone, but I know it’s what works for me. When I don’t track my macros I always end up not consuming enough protein.

I will not be posting my daily calories or macros here, as everyone is SO SO different and my macros/calories are personal to me. If you wish to track macros or figure out what calories you should be consuming I recommend you

By the way, macros are just the breakdown of food - Protein, Carbohydrates and Fat. My current percentages of macros from my calories on training days are… 33% carbs 36% protein and 31% fat.

MEASUREMENTS

I really focus on measurements rather than the scales, as being a woman the scales can fluctuate SO much and can be inaccurate when it comes to progress. I do weigh myself daily and take a weekly average from that but I don’t focus on the number. When I take measurements of my body and photos I can see progress a lot more than stepping on a scale.

PREMIUM BRANDS CAPTURE MORE 2020 REG PLATES ! It’s been a luxurious time this first half of January for more drivers as sales of the three main German premium brands have had major increases over last year.It might be the draw of the new 201 plate, a desire to splash the cash or deciding to buy a big diesel while they are still relatively acceptable.Whatever, Mercedes-Benz sales were up nearly 70pc in the first 15 days of the year, BMW’s were up 43pc and Audi’s increased by 21pc.This added up to 1,731 cars for these three brands sold compared with 1,108 during the same time last year, accounting for nearly 10.5pc of the overall market compared with less than 7pc in 2019.In addition to those three marques, there were also big increases for Lexus, while Porsche delivered 26 cars in the first two weeks compared with just one last year.Of course, sales of the big three German brands were still way under those of the leading car marque in the early days of the year This was Toyota whose 2,289 sales were 700 up on last year, mainly because of the new Corolla hybrid which sold 887 units against only 55 last year. The Corolla eventually became the country’s most sold car last year. In the first two weeks of 2020, Hyundai’s Tucson and Kona were the second and third placed cars, with respectively 787 and 596 sales. Hyundai’s much-anticipated new i10 is just arriving in the showrooms and should be another huge success as it has consistently been the top city car in the country.Ireland is the first European country to launch the new i10. At the moment, the Korean marque lies second in the overall sales table.

TOYOYTA HAS LOWEST CO2 OUTPUT OF ALL THE MARQUES !

The success of the Toyota Corolla, last year and early this year, reinforces the view of Steve Tormey, CEO of Toyota Ireland, that hybrid is the best option for most Irish drivers looking for an electrified drive.Toyota made the decision to invest in hybrid technology more than 20 years ago as a key principle of its contribution towards sustainable development. Here the company was ahead of governments and consumers in foreseeing the decline in the conventional diesel and petrol cars in its move towards less polluting, more environmentally friendly options. In Ireland, Toyota claims that its hybrids sold in 2019 will result in the reduction of 60,000 tonnes of CO2 from the environment over the course of their lifetime.Tormey says that Toyota has advanced its hybrid technology so much over the past 20 years that the latest-generation hybrids drive in zero emissions mode 62pc of the time on average during daily commuting conditions.”We are proud to say that Toyota is already delivering the lowest CO2 output of any car brand in Ireland. In fact, our average CO2 output across our range in Ireland was 17pc lower than the top 10 best-selling car brands,” he added.Meanwhile, Kia plans to transition to an EV-based business system ahead of competitors, leveraging its production capabilities in manufacturing internal combustion engine vehicles.By prioritising future customer value, the company also plans to develop and release innovative EV models, offering a differentiated product appeal, such as an EV-specialised design, user experience and quality.Starting with the launch of its maiden dedicated EV model in 2021, Kia will establish a full EV line-up of 11 models by 2025, adding new EV models to its line-up along the way, including passenger vehicles, SUVs and MPVs from 2022. FAI NATIONAl P.R.O. OF THE YEAR ROAD TO DUBLIN A BUSY ONE: This week, with an election around the corner, hundreds of Kerry fans will again have been calling in their cars and busses for the Adare ByPass! The Kerry exodus to Dublin started on Tuesday when Mercy Mounthawk u19 Boys and St Pat’s Castleisland made the trip to the National Basketball Arena for the u19 A Boys All Ireland Schools Finals. MOUNTHAWK COME OUT ON TOP IN ALL KERRY FINAL: MERCY MOUNTHAWK 81–64ST PAT’S CASTLEISLAND

An explosive start saw the Tralee side jump out to a 12-0 lead before a Gary O’Sullivan 3 got the Castleisland scoring going. Scores from Jack Tobin and Donal Geaney followed but Mounthawk remained in control and back to back three pointers from Zigi Kalekta and TIM Pullman Daamen saw them lead 25-10 at the end of the first quarter. Castleisland needed a big start to the third quarter but it was the Tralee boys that again exerted their authority. The Pullman Daamen’s, MVP Steven Bowler, James Fernane and Daire Kennelly all hit big scores while Kennelly was also having a big day in defence. At the half Mounthawk were in control 46-29. Mercy Mounthawk are coached by John Dowling ably assisted by Jimmy Diggins and Lyndsey Moriarty and they expertly rotated their bench. While St Pat’s did hit some good scores including back to back three pointers Mounthawk’s big players again came to the front and the lead was 20 with the last quarter to play. St Pat’s put everything into the final quarter but Mounthawk ,who lost in the final exactly a year ago, were not letting this one go and when Bowler downed another three it was game over and the Cup was heading to Tralee. For Mercy Mounthawk Steven Bowler hit 24 points in an MVP performance. Tim Pullman Daamen ended with 124 while Sean hit 8, Zigi Kalekta shot 12 while James Fernane and Daire Kennelly also ended with 8 points each and Leeroy Odiahi ended with 6. The scorers were ably backed up by the rest of the squad who showed their skills when they came off the bench – David Burke, Daniel Bowler, Cian Devine, Oliver Harte, David Goranski and Sean Collins.

KERRY ON THE DOUBLE IN CROKE PARK ON SATURDAY: When the fixtures came out for the Allianz National League a trip to Croke Park for an opener against Dublin was certainly a mouth-watering way to get the campaign underway. And for those making the trip the day became even more attractive when N a Gaeil qualified for the All Ireland Premier Junior final. It is a pity that Templenoe were beaten at the final hurdle as there would have been three Kerry sides on the hallowed turf on the same day. But that is past and now as you read this on the day before the big one everyone will be getting behind Na Gaeil. Their game against Rarhgarogue/ Cushinstown from Wexford throws in at 3.15pm with the Kerry game later on that evening. A number of Kerry clubs have enjoyed the build-up and a day in Croke Park and it must be a wonderful thing to be involved in for all those with the squad but also in the wider club. Na Gaeil was founded in 1978 and I doubt if those founding fathers would have even dreamed of a day like this in just over 40 years. Many many people have played a part in the club reaching these heights and I am sure that there have been moments of reflection at their facilities this week where those that have gone to the ‘big stadium in the sky’ have been remembered. Many will be making their way to Croke Park with the club putting on a number of busses – which must be pre-booked. They will have the pleasure of cheering their heroes as they run out thaqt famous tunnel. Some will not be able to make the journey but will be following the game on Radio Kerry or on television. They will all be proudly wearing their colours. And they, and all sports fans in Kerry, will be hoping that there will be a huge homecoming in Tralee with another All Ireland Cup residing in the Kingdom for twelve months. By now you will have read plenty of previews of the game so I am not going to go into this but to say the players and management have had an excellent run to the final and have been hitting big scores. They certainly won’t be going into the game with any arrogance but if all their players can play to their potential then that is all the management can ask. No one knows who will be the hero in a final. It could be a score at a vital stage, a block to

stop an opponent’s score or a save by the keeper. It could be one of the players who have been there before with Kerry or one of the newcomers to Croke Park who become the hero. That is the joy of sport – we don’t know how it will go. So all we say is that everyone in Kerry will be supporting Na Gaeil this Saturday and will be delighted, but obviously not as delighted as those involved with the club if the team can follow the many Kerry sides that have climbed those famous steps. Go Na Gaeil!! BOOKIES HAVE KERRY CLOSING IN ON DUBLIN: For Dublin and their 5-in-a-row win and Kerry reaching two National finals in Peter Keane’s first year the focus now turns to the future as last year is now in the history books. And looking forward according to the bookies Kerry are closing in on Dublin. The Blues, now under the new management of Dessie Farrell, are still the favourites but will be without Colm O’Callaghan and the big question is will the hunger still be there. Dublin are 13/8 to win their 14th League while Kerry are in from 3/1 to 9/4 to win back the League title they last held in 2017. Of course whichever way the game goes both management will be saying that it is only the opening game of a long season. From a Kerry point of view it will be a proud night for the Clifford family from Fossa as David will lead the side out for the first time. His nomination as captain by County Champions East Kerry has been widely approved. He could be a history making captain early in his role as the selection process for the Kerry captain is up for discussion at the next County Committee meeting where a motion calling for an end to the County Champions nominating the captain is to be voted on. Back to the game and both teams will only be finding their feet after their well-deserved holidays following a long hard season and probably will not have a lot of work done. It would be a huge shock if either Kerry or Dublin were in any danger of relegation. Both will be looking to at least reach the final as that seems to be important in the run into the Championship. Both sets of management will be looking to see if new players put their hands up for places- it could be an even better day for the Clifford’s if Paudie gets a run. So what will Kerry and Dublin fans be looking for on Saturday night? While both will love to be the ones with the early bragging rights of a win the performance will be more important. It should make another great night in Croke Park with a huge crowd as the 2020 Inter County season gets underway. While it will not be played in the white heat of a championship battle it is Dublin v Kerry in Croke Park and as always this game will take on a life of its own. CLUB NEWS: NA GAEIL: By now the busses will have been booked and the colours bought but there are probably still some on sale if anyone has not gotten theirs. The light training for the Fir Na Gaeil continues on Monday and Friday nights with the Mna Na

Gaeil training on Wednesday and Sunday evenings. There was no winner of the Lotto from the numbers drawn 3,11,19 and 25 and the next draw was for e3,500. Off the field and Bingo takes place in the clubhouse every Monday night from 8.30pm with cards being played on Wednesday nights from 9.30pm with 45 being the game. CBS THROUGH: The Munster Corn Ui Mhuiri title could still end up in Tralee as the Green CBS have reached the final after defeating Hamilton High School in the quarter-final. The Tralee boys put in a very impressive performance to win 4-13 to 0-07 against the Bandon school. The win by the CBS means that there will be at least one Kerry team in the final as they will now take on Rathmore in the semi-final. Rathmore won in the O’Sullivan Cup when the two sides met in that competition earlier on in the season. SCOR NEWS: SCÓR na bPÁISTÍ: (i) Scór na bPáistí is for performers who attend primary school and it is now time for for youngstes to prepare. Clubs in the Tralee and St Brendan’s Districts are asked to enter the various competitions – mainly for the fun of it. The Greater Tralee Area finals must be completed by April 5th. The South Kerry (semi-final) will take place at 3pm on Saturday April 18th. The North Kerry (semi-final) will take place at 1pm on Sunday April 19th. County finals: Monday May 4th. Castleisland Community Centre on Saturday night. Saints opened the scoring with Graham Branelly first on the mark but the St. Vincent’s side had to look on as the Warriors quickly fired in the next 13 points from the field. Daniel Jokubaitis arced in two threes, Jon Lawton hit another and a basket each from Kieran Donaghy and Ivan Bogdanovic saw the Warriors ease ahead. Mike Bonaparte, Charlie Coombes and Kevin Lacey cut the gap to three after Andre Berry opened his account. However the League champions finished the quarter in style with a hat trick of threes from Berry, Lawton and Darragh O’Hanlon to take a 31-18 to the first break. The Warriors moved up a gear early in the second as their scores rained down on the Saints basket. Three scores from Jokubaitis, another hat trick of threes from Lawton, O’Hanlon and Rap Buivydas and when Eoin Quigley checked in the Warriors had quickly built a 25 point lead. Saints resistance was limited to a three from Marcus Black and a score each from Branelly and team captain Conor Gilligan. However the Warriors looked like a team on a mission with Andre Berry in particular hitting scores from both inside and out and Buivydas and Quigley chipping in a score each to see them establish a game winning 5932 lead at the long break. The big crowd in Castleisland was expecting some form of comeback from Saints early in the third but instead it was the Warriors that opened up to blitz the Dublin side for another 14 unanswered points. Lawton hit back-to-back threes and Bogdanovic, Jokubaitis, Donaghy and Quigley queued up to push the advantage out to 73-32. Saints in fairness did eventually spark into life spearheaded by Mike Bonaparte and Charlie Coombes. Bonaparte showed his class with some excellent scores to cut the gap by 10 but the Warriors were all but out of sight and when Fergal O’Sullivan made a welcome return to hitting three pointers and when Berry and Lawton were on the mark again the sides turned for home with the Warriors leading 86-52. Saints to their credit did not give up and early in the final quarter hit the first six scores with Bonaparte, Lacey and Stephen Ingle all in range but Darragh O’Hanlon fired in two customary threes and Donaghy and Jokubaitis kept the significant gap intact. Lacey and Martin Neary hit a three apiece for the visitors before Rap Buivydas had the honour of hitting the 100-point mark for the Warriors with a drive to the board. Pa McCarthy added another late on before Bonaparte stroked in another three to bring the contest to a close.
