LEGAL MATTERS CORNER MIRIAM MC GILLICUDDY ANSWERS YOUR LEGAL QUERIES Elaine is voting in the general election on Saturday 8th February 2020 but she is wondering how her vote will work in the proportional representation single transferable voting system that we operate in Ireland. Voting in Ireland at Presidential, Daíl, Seanad, European and local elections is by secret ballot on the principle of proportional representation in multi seat constituencies. (Ireland is a single constituency at a Presidential election), each elector having a single transferable vote. Voting is Straightforward: Vote for candidates in order of preference. You mark the ballot paper by putting 1. opposite the name of your first choice candidate, and if you wish 2. opposite the name of your second choice and so on. Only one of the preferences in your vote is active at a time. The vote stays with your first preference candidate (unless and until he/she does not need it anymore)[either because he/she has been elected or excluded from the count] If your vote is transferred, it passes to your next highest preference for a candidate still in the running. Elaine’s vote could transfer a number of times at the same election to her lower preference candidates. Tactically to maximise her vote and keep it in play Elaine could consider voting for her weakest preference first and working up to the strongest candidate as if they are eliminated the vote will go to next weakest etc. but there are many other voter strategies see https://www.dochara.com/the-irish/facts/proportionalrepresentation/ For more ideas.

How are the votes counted. The quota is then calculated. This is the minimum number of valid votes each successful candidate must get to be elected. The quota is calculated as the minimum number of votes, which will fill the seats available and no more. In a five-seat constituency, the quota is a sixth of the valid votes, plus one. Divide the valid votes by the number of seats – plus one, ignore any fraction and add on. For example – if there are 1000 valid votes & 5 seats, the quota is calculated as follows; 1000+1=167.666 Any candidate whose first preferences equal or exceed the quota is deemed elected. The second and subsequent counts at a PR-STV election involve either the distribution of the surplus of an elected candidate or exclusion of the lowest candidate(s) & distribution of his/her/their votes. Recounts: The returning officer can decide. The Candidates can request. The Candidates can also request a total recount of all votes. Declaring the Result The returning officer formally declares who has been elected. A person can question the election result by presenting an election petition to the High Court within 28 days of the result being declared.

Rory makes you feel, that you are actually underwater with him. Rory Golden became the first Irish diver to visit the site of RMS TITANIC, in August 2000. He was a member of an expedition that recovered 800 artefacts from nearly 4,000 metres deep. His dive was in a Russian submersible, and he left a memorial plaque on the wreck on behalf of the people of Ireland. He also spotted the main ship’s wheel which was recovered on the dive. Tickets are €10 on the door & will also be available at the reception of the Meadowlands in the coming week. TRALEE ADVERTISER

2020 Cara Credit Union’s School Quiz

This weekend Cara Credit Union held The Noreen Lynch Annual Schools Quiz on Sunday 2nd of February in the Kerry Sports Academy. However, they were not alone as 25,000 primary school children all over Ireland tested their brain power at their annual Credit Union Schools Quiz. The questions compiled nationally by primary school teachers covered such general topics as geography, history, music, literature and sport. Cara Credit Union were delighted to host 49 teams from 26 primary schools throughout Tralee, Castleisland, Killorglin and surrounding areas as 196 children battled it out in a nerve-wrecking competition.

The theme of the 2020 Credit Union School Quiz was the ‘Let the Battle Commence’ and indeed it was a battle as we saw tie breakers in both the under 11 and under 13 age categories. The aim of the Credit Union Friday 7th February 2020

School Quiz is to encourage local children to work together and see what they are capable of achieving as part of a team. Speaking about the quiz Pa Laide, CEO of Cara Credit Union said, “We were delighted with the support from all the schools who battled it out for the fun filled action packed two hours. With the talent in the room it’s obvious that the future is in safe hands.

In the Under 11 age category, 1st place was awarded to Listellick National School, 2nd place to Ardfert National School and after a 6-way tie breaker 3rd place was awarded to Knockaderry National School in Farranfore. In the Under 13 age category after a very tense tie breaker 1st place was eventually awarded to Scoil Mhic Easmiann in Tralee, 2nd place to Spa National School and 3rd place to Scoil Mhuire in Killorglin. Siobhan Donnelly Marketing and Development Officer said “We are humbled with

the support we receive from our local schools and together we wish to improve financial literacy for our future generations. The School Quiz along the Art Competition are two of the highlights of our year and we encourage all our younger members to get involved”.

Call Chris or Colette Tel: 066-7126399 or e-mail : traleeadvertiser@gmail.com

1st and 2nd place winners in both categories will now go on to represent Cara Credit Union at the next stage of Credit Unions Schools Quiz, the Chapter (regional) round of the National Schools Quiz.

Brassil commits to deliver standalone cancer unit at University Hospital Kerry if elected John Brassil has committed to the building of a standalone cancer unit in the grounds of University Hospital Kerry if he is elected and Fianna Fail are in power after this election. According to Brassil the Oncology unit in University Hospital Kerry is currently not fit for purpose. Speaking on World Cancer Day, February 4th Brassil said, “While the staff are incredible, the current cancer unit in University Hospital Kerry is just not fit for purpose. There is no fixed line oxygen and the unit is cramped. Along with Cllr Mikey Sheehy, I have been

fighting for a new standalone cancer unit on the grounds of the hospital. I have made no secret of my ambitions for a ministry in the department of health and if elected and Fianna Fail are in Government, I am committing myself to getting a standalone cancer unit built at the hospital. “Given the risks Brexit will present to us getting chemo drugs from the UK, I also think this new standalone unit must include a pharmacy compounding unit to allow chemo drugs to be mixed in Kerry. “We need changes in cancer

care in Kerry. A cancer diagnosis is a scary thing that has visited most families at some stage. You have a lot to deal with - the last thing you

need to be worrying about is the standards of cancer care. “We need top class Cancer Care in Kerry and I will work to ensure we have it.

Tralee Hoteliers Call For Decisive Action To Support Tourism Hotel and guesthouse owners in Tralee and Kerry and across the country this week called on candidates in the general election to commit to decisive action in support of the continued growth of Irish tourism. Bernadette Randles, Chair of the Kerry branch of the Irish Hotels Federation (IHF) said that, while tourism had returned to growth in recent years, the recovery has not been evenly spread across the country. Citing the CSO’s overseas visitor numbers for 2019, which were released this week, she warned that

continued growth cannot be taken for granted with regional tourism most likely to be negatively affected. The figures show a significant fall off in growth with an increase of just 1.8% in 2019, as against 6.9% in 2018, compared to the previous year. The IHF’s five-point plan calls on the next Government to support tourism by addressing a number of key challenges, including:...Tackling the high cost of doing business,More supports for regional tourism , Increased tourism marketing support. Additional investment in tourism product and infrastructure and Investment in people, skills and training. As one of Ireland’s largest indigenous industries, tourism plays a vital role in the country’s economic well-being. Ms Randles said that the effectiveness of

tourism growth in spreading employment opportunities and prosperity across the entire country is sometimes lost in discussions about the economy. “With 70 per cent of tourism jobs based outside of Dublin, tourism’s wide geographic distribution is critical to sustaining regional economies, including here in Kerry, and addressing the rural imbalance. Irish tourism has created over 90,000 new jobs since 2011. Accounting for almost 4% of GNP, tourism generates over €9.4 billion in revenue each year – thereby supporting the local economies of every village, town and county.” “Tourism represents an excellent investment for the country and it’s therefore vital that it remains at the heart of Ireland’s economic policy. We’re calling on candidates in

the general election here in Kerry to commit to a range of pro-tourism policies that will help to sustain the growth of tourism and the significant contribution that it makes to the economy,” said Ms Randles.

Urgent work needed to stop road collapse in Ballyheigue Kerry Aontú General Election Candidate, Sonny Foran, has called on Kerry County Council to carry out immediate remedial work to offset the effects of coastal erosion undermining the Ballyheigue to Kerry Head Road. Sonny Foran said;“People are extremely concerned at the fact that coastal erosion has seriously undermined the road that links Ballyheigue to Kerry Head. From the roadway, it is clear that there is a very small amount of cliff remaining Friday 7th February 2020

beyond the boundary wall. However, viewing the situation from the beach, it is clear that the problem is of a much greater magnitude. The base of the cliff has been so greatly eroded that this damage has extended under the road thus threatening its stability. I am now calling on Kerry County Council to carry out immediate remedial work as the people of Ballyheigue and Kerry Head who use the road believe that it will only be a matter of time before it collapses.” Call Chris or Colette Tel: 066-7126399 or e-mail : traleeadvertiser@gmail.com

A Lovely piece about Frank King posted on Austin Stacks Website on 31st January . We Remember FRANK KING (1931-1990).JANUARY 31, 2020 BY MARTIN COLLINS Frank played football and hurling with the Club (19491955) and won two SH Co. Championship medals when playing afterwards with Ballyduff. In 1957 he served as Club Vice Chairman and then came back in the early 1970s and presided over a period of outstanding Club progress and development. During his five seasons as Chairman (19711975) the Club witnessed the commencement of our second Golden Era (1973-1986) during which period we won five SF Co. Championship titles and an All Ireland Club Championship (1977). Frank, with others, was instrumental in 1972 of achieving what the Club had sought for many years – the purchase of our playing pitch at Connolly Park. Also, during this period (1972-1978) he served as Vice Chairman of the Kerry Co. Board before going on to serve as Co. Board Chairman for nine consecutive seasons (1979-1987). Like the success at Club level he also witnessed outstanding success at County level during his tenure of office – Kerry winning four in a row All Senior

Football titles (1978-81) with three more successive titles (1984-86). During this time he also served on many sub-committees in Croke Park and in early June 1989, although in ill health at the time, he performed the official opening of our new Clubhouse in Connolly Park. Some eight months later he passed away peacefully at the relatively young age of 58 – on 31st January 1990, thirty years ago on this day. Today Frank’s wife Peggy continues to support the club and is a regular at club matches and all our social functions, his daughter Breda O’Callaghan is a club member and is also part of the hardworking administration staff at Kerry GAA offices in Austin Stack Park, Tralee while Frank’s grandson Shane O’Callaghan is a current member of the Austin Stacks Senior panel and was a member of our Co. Championship & Munster Championship winning team in 2014.

Looking to ‘shake the cake’? Want to eat more and weigh less? Read on... Meals are designed to suit your individual taste and needs. The plan is ideal if you are looking to improve your nutrition and maximize your daily performance. Cooper Medicare in Ashe Street have developed a Nutritional Plan in their Weight Management Clinic .”On this plan you will feel what it is like to have a body that functions correctly, like it has never done before!” says Dr Michelle Cooper . “Meals are quick and easy to prepare with a variety of delicious sweet desserts (including chocolate desserts) for those of you who have a sweet tooth!

Check out what some of my clients had to say.... ‘I did the 6 week plan with Dr Cooper, and was amazed with the results that I saw. I lost 18lbs in that time. I really enjoyed all the food that was on the plan, and there was so many different options. I didn’t have any cravings and I was still able to have something sweet at the end of the day. I

saw an increase in my energy levels right away. Dr Cooper was so helpful and encouraging along the way, and was at the other end of the phone if I needed to ask her anything.’ ‘In 6 weeks, the difference is amazing. As well as over a stone in weight loss, I have no cravings, increased energy and feel so well. The Nutritional Plan is easy to follow with delicious recipes. I think it is especially good if you work long hours/shift work, as you can tailor the plan to suit what time you eat your meals.’ ‘I have been on the plan for 12 days at this stage and my experience has been completely positive. In my last weigh in after 7 days on the diet I had lost 6 pounds. This completely surprised me as I expected to gain weight as I was genuinely eating a lot more. What surprised me most was how delicious the meals were. I didn’t know what to expect when I made the fish stew but it was gorgeous. I love the idea of preparing food from first principles. For

example, tasting the cinnamon in the muesli or the vanilla pod in the banana smoothie. Making Turkey Bolognese and spiralized courgette was a trip into the unknown that turned into a very pleasant surprise. Finally, I would say it was surprisingly easy to give up all the other stuff because the food is so tasty and I noticed this week that I had more money left over in my wallet. So, a winner all around.’ I would recommend this plan if thinking of changing lifestyle.’ Call Cooper Medicare on 066-7126269 for further information!

OVER 16 YEARS BRINGING STUDENTS FROM ABROAD TO TRALEE! EACH YEAR, WE BRING HUNDREDS OF STUDENTS TO TRALEE TO LEARN ENGLISH (AND ENJOY KERRY!)

WE NEED HOST FAMILIES! DO YOU HAVE A SPARE ROOM ? Are you interested in introducing your kids to cultural diversity? Interested in exposing your children to a foreign language? Need a little extra cash? (A host family can earn up to €510 per week)

A few popular questions about being a Host Family ...

Do I have to live in Tralee to take a student?

NO! We have a lot of teenage groups, especially during the Summer months, who would love to live outside of Tralee. A lot of adult students prefer to live closer to the town so that they don't have to be depending on the host family or taxis to go out at night or go to work.

I live on my own - can I be a host family?

Yes, of course! As long as you provide a room and meals and plenty of interaction and the student feels welcome in your home, that's perfect How many students can I take? Up to 3 students at one time I would prefer to have girls - is that ok? Yes! You can decide what type of students you prefer (male, female, teenage, adult and so on) and we will match students with your family as best we can. We will always ask you before assigning a student to your house.

Roisin, Tralee: A very positive experience hosting students from CSOE... school is so supportive and organised (guess I could also mention how handy the cash is!) Anne B, Tralee: This was my first experience in hosting students . .. apprehensive at first but my experience has been a positive one. I have hosted students from, Spain, Germany and Italy. It has provided me with great insights and an opportunity to learn about different cultures. Aileen, Kilflynn: Definitely the best company I've dealt with... professionalism and knowledge of what both the student and host family needs are... second to none! Noreen, Tralee: Anne and the team at Celtic have been very flexible with me, giving me students when suits us as a family, lovely having that little bit extra to get those treats we all deserve

WE ALSO PROVIDE OUR STUDENTS WITH WORK PLACEMENTS!

We are delighted with the feedback from local businesses: “Very easy to deal with, very professional in placing their students” Brian, Munster Robes

“We honestly benefit greatly from working with CSOE and I couldn't recommend them highly enough. Apart from the increase in productivity in the workplace, we get lovely girls whom we all become very fond of and always keep in touch when they finish” Gillian, Pamela Scott Fashions “We have had 2 students, a tiler and a photography student. Both have been very pleasant and great workers. It has been a huge benefit to our business to have some extra help on jobs” Alan, Bathrooms4U

WHAT’S INVOLVED IN WORK PLACEMENT?

Celtic School of English in Tralee organise English & Work Placement programmes for foreign students coming to Tralee for a few weeks at a time. Some students are attending the equivalent of a vocational leaving cert and require a taste of what working life is like in their chosen field. Other students are a little older and are doing apprenticeship programmes. Generally, they have a couple of years of experience and want to learn more from Irish companies and be able to compare work practices. Quite often, these students are taking time off work in their own country and coming to Ireland to gain experience with the permission of their own employers and are, perhaps, looking to make ties between their own employers and their new employers in Ireland. At Celtic School of English, we try to find the most suitable companies for students to do their work experience. We find the most suitable host family and we provide English classes to help students with the language they need to live in Ireland for a few weeks.

TYPICAL QUESTIONS ARE:

Do I have to pay the student? No, it is a voluntary programme - no payment required How many hours should the students work? Typically 25-30 hours per week but this may depend on the type of student and the level of skill they have. Most students come for 3 or 4 weeks What about insurance? Students carry their own insurance from their school/college

What type of jobs do they do? Everything! Car mechanics to office admin to plumbers to website designers and everything in between. Think of a once-off job, such as building a data-base of customers, or a helping hand for everyday tasks - these are times where a work placement student can really be of benefit. Other benefits are... • Fresh insight: Students bring a fresh look at how work is carried out. They want to learn but they also want to be able to share ideas • New Culture: Students bring a new culture into a work placement – a new course of conversation – a new outlook • Short-term or long-term: Most students come for between 2 and 8 weeks of work experience. It is also possible to have students for up to 6 months Bridge a gap: Work placements students can help companies complete everyday tasks when there is a bigger project to complete

Beauty

HELLO BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE! Hope you’re all having a great week.

Since I talked all things skincare last week, this week I’m going to be talking about my current haircare routine. Proper haircare is so important for me. I like to use more high end products on my hair because of all the bleach, dyeing and heat it has taken over the years. So here’s all the products I use on my hair currently. I wash my hair every 4-5 days, no less than this. . SHAMPOO & CONDITIONER For my shampoo and conditioner I’m currently alternating between two different ones. I like to alternate because I feel my hair gets too used to a shampoo and conditioner after a while so it’s good to switch it up. For shampoo and conditioner I’m currently swiching between Wella & Christophe Robin. For me it’s imperative to use high quality hair products. You can’t expect to have amazing hair if you use hair products that cost less than a cup of decent coffee! There’s no point spending money on your hair in the salon and then treating it badly at home. EXTRA TREATMENTS: As well as shampoo and conditioner, there are other treatments I use on my hair. Wella Colour Motion mask - The innovative mask elevates haircare beyond anti-fading, uniting the best of Wella haircare technology to offer advanced protection, vibrant shine and reinforced strength. A hair surface polisher smooths the cuticle for improved shine and manageability. Engineered with a WellaPlex bonding agent, the mask helps to restore the hair by reconstructing broken bonds within the hair structure. The repairing treatment helps to revive hair that has been damaged through colouring, chemical treatments or heat styling, improving both the appearance and feel of the hair.

Wella Sp Luxe Oil - This gorgeous hair product is designed to smooth and condition the hair inside and out. It contains a combination of oils which work to restore the structure of the hair and and protect the existing Keratin. Tests have shown that after just one application, your hair texture can feel up to 10 times smoother! It smells amazing and is literally like hair perfume

Hello strong people!

I hope you’re all having an amazing week. So last week I talked about having a good relationship with food, so following on from that this week I ‘m going to talk about how you can track your progress without the scales.

THE WEIGHING SCALES

just a word. But to some people, it’s a big scary word. Now personally, I think… if you are unhealthy, overweight, underweight or just generally not living a healthy lifestyle, a good starting point is to know your weight. Not because your weight defines anything or makes you ‘fat’ or ‘skinny’ but because knowledge is power. For years I avoided the scales, I wasn’t aware of what my weight was and I feel like I was just ignoring it. Ignorance is bliss and all that jazz. But one day I decided, ‘right every day for a month I will weigh myself’ - now again, this might not be a good idea for some people because they could become obsessed with numbers… but, for me it gave structure, accountability and power. I like to know my weight but I don’t just rely on that, it’s one of many things I am aware of. I know that weight loss does not mean fat loss and that the numbers on the scale can actually be misleading.

go to Byrnesworth in the square, they have them for less than 3 euro. Now, you have your tape so you’re ready to go. Personally, I like to measure myself first thing in the morning before any food, to get the most accurate measurements to track. I measure the smallest part of my waist, around my bellybutton for my hips, one of my upper arms and my thigh. Then write them down, and retake your measurements once or twice a month.

PICTURES

So say you want to be more accountable and knowledgeable, but you know that weighing yourself on a scales isn’t the best option for you… here’s what you can do.

I love a good progress picture. They’re really helpful, especially if you’re feeling unmotivated. Again, take the picture at a certain time of the day and then make sure the ‘progress’ one is taken at the same time, preferably in the same outfit and lighting.

MEASUREMENTS

SLEEP

The first thing you can do is get out your measuring tape and measure yourself. If you don’t have a measuring tape,

Rebecca

Friday 7th February 2020

Sleep actually tells you a lot about your health. If you are focusing on being a more healthy human being, monitoring how well you sleep can tell you a lot.

TRACK PROGRESS

What I mean by ‘track progress’ is exercise wise. So say you want your cardiovascular health to improve, run for 5 minutes - see how far you go and how you feel after. Then a few weeks later, after implementing more cardio into your life, try again, maybe you’ll go twice the distance, maybe you’ll run twice as long. If you want to become stronger, track what weights you lift at the gym, and always push yourself with those weights for a week or two, then try and up the weight slightly, and repeat this… you will become stronger(once you are eating right, sleeping right and being generally mindful of your goals of course).

HEALTHY RECIPES for 2020

Soul Food... for the sore head! This is an Aztec dish still popular in Mexico and is often used as a hangover cure! But for sure it is packed full of flavour and ribstickingly delicious. This is a great winter dish that warms the soul and so tasty.. This recipe below is for ten portions so a great party dish!!!

POSOLE ROJO INGREDIENTS • • • • • • • • • •

1 (3-pound) boneless pork shoulder trimmed and cut into 2-inch pieces 1 (3-pound) rack pork spareribs, cut in half crosswise 6 pints water, plus more 2 tablespoons plus 2 teaspoons sea salt, divided 1 large white onion, quartered 3 large garlic cloves 1 (2-inch) piece fresh ginger, peeled 3 bay leaves 1 tablespoon dried oregano, plus more for serving 3 cans white hominy drained and rinsed

• • • • • • • • • •

(maize) 5 large dried ancho chiles 5 large dried guajillo chiles 2 tablespoons oil 10 (5-inch) corn tostada shells 4 cups thinly sliced iceberg lettuce (from 1/2 head lettuce) 3 cups chicharrones (optional) 1 cup crumbled Cotija cheese (optional) 8 red radishes, thinly sliced 2 ripe medium-size avocados, thinly sliced 5 limes, halved

METHOD Combine pork shoulder, spareribs, 6 pints water, and 1 tablespoon salt in a large stockpot. Bring to a boil over high, skimming off and discarding foam from surface during first 10 minutes of cooking. Place onion, garlic, ginger, bay leaves, and oregano in center of a large piece of cheesecloth; gather edges of cheesecloth together, and secure with twine. Add to pot; reduce heat to medium-low, and gently simmer, uncovered, 1 hour and 30 minutes. Remove cheesecloth bundle from pot. Remove onion, garlic, and ginger; set aside. Discard bay leaves and oregano. Add hominy to pot; simmer over mediumlow, uncovered, until rib bones can be easily removed from spareribs, about 1 hour and 30 minute While pork mixture simmers, split ancho and guajillo chiles; remove and discard stems and seeds. Place half of the chiles in a large, deep pan over medium. Cook, turning occasionally, until toasted evenly on both sides, about 1 minute. Remove to a plate;

repeat procedure with remaining chiles. Return all toasted chiles to pan add water just to cover chiles. Bring to a gentle simmer over medium; cook until chiles are soft and rehydrated, about 15 minutes. Remove from heat; cool slightly, about 15 minutes. Drain chiles, reserving cooking liquid. Taste cooking liquid. If it tastes bitter, discard. If it tastes faintly of raisins, reserve 1/2 cup. Transfer rehydrated chiles and either the reserved 1/2 cup chile cooking liquid or 1/2 cup water to a blender. Add onion, garlic, ginger, and 1 tablespoon salt. Process until smooth, adding splashes of stock from pork mixture in stockpot as needed to achieve consistency of applesauce, about 1 minute. Pour through a fine wire-mesh strainer into a bowl; discard solids Heat oil in a 10-inch pan over medium-high. Carefully pour strained chile mixture into pan. (Mixture will splatter.) Cook, stirring often, until reduced by half and darkened in color, about 30

minutes. (Partially cover pan to reduce splatters, if desired.) Remove from heat, and set aside. When pork mixture has finished simmering, remove spareribs from stockpot, and set aside until cool enough to handle, about 5 minutes. Remove and discard rib bones and tendons from spareribs. Chop meat into bite-size pieces, and return to stockpot. Stir in reserved chile sauce. Bring to a simmer over medium-low; cook until flavors meld, about 1 hour, skimming fat from surface, if desired. Stir in remaining 2 teaspoons salt. To serve, place tostada shells; lettuce; chicharrones, if using; Cotija, if using; radishes; avocados; and limes in separate bowls. Ladle soup evenly among 10 large bowls. For each serving, place a pinch of oregano between palms; rub over and into soup to release its aroma. Serve soup alongside bowls of garnishes for diners to customize their servings.

IT’S ONLY A JOKE 38 What’s Happening In Tralee..

A MAGICIAN WAS WORKING ON A CRUISE SHIP

Since the audience was different each week, the magician did the same tricks over and over again. There was only one problem: the captain’s parrot saw the shows each week and began to understand how the magician did every trick. Once he understood, he started shouting in the middle of the show “look, it’s not the same hat”, or “look, he’s hiding flowers under the table”, or “ hey, why are all of the cards aces?” The magician was furious but couldn’t do anything. It was, after all, the captains parrot. One stormy night on the pacific, the ship unfortunately sank. The magician found himself on a piece of wood floating in the middle of the sea, as fate would have it, with the parrot. They stared at each other with hatred, but didn’t utter a word This went on for a day, then two days, then three days. Finally the parrot couldn’t hold back and said “Okay I give up, where’s the ship?”

A MAN ABSOLUTELY HATED HIS GIRLFRIEND’S CAT

A man absolutely hated his girlfriend’s cat and decided to get rid of him one day by driving him 20 blocks from his home and leaving him at the park. As he was getting home, the cat was walking up the driveway. The next day he decided to drive the cat 40 blocks away. He put the beast out and headed home. Driving back up his driveway, there was the cat! He kept taking the cat further and further and the cat would always beat him home. At last he decided to drive a few miles away, turn right, then left, past the bridge, then right again

and another right until he reached what he thought was a safe distance from his home and left the cat there. Hours later the man calls home to his girlfrien: “Jen, is the cat there?” “Yes”, the girlfriend answers, “why do you ask?” Frustrated, the man answered, “Put that son of a b@%#h on the phone, I’m lost and need directions!”

TRUTH WILL SET YOU FREE.

A boss had an affair for the first time with his secretary. They spent time in his office till late at night. They kissed and cuddled and when they were done, the secretary turned to him and said, it is late and you are all messed up, your wife will take one look at you and realize what we did. Don’t worry he said, I got this... So the man got home. He did nothing to fix himself up. Only thing, He went to the grass and rubbed his shoes into the grass. Disheveled. Smelling perfume and lipstick all over he went and knocked on the door. His wife opened the door to see him disheveled, smelling like perfume, lipstick all over. Before she opened her mouth, he said... “Now before you say anything, I have to tell you that I was late because I just had an affair with my secretary. We were together for two hours and she kissed me all over that is why I have lipstick all over. Also that is why I have perfume smell all over..So the wife took one look at him, and screamed... You Scoundrel ! You expect me to believe such a story?! Look at your shoes, you have been playing golf again with your friends and got some waitress to kiss and leave a lipstick print on your shirt and rub all over you to smell like perfume, so you can come to lie to me. Get inside and clean yourself up! And let this be the last time you go golfing with your friends again... and I don’t want to hear a peep from you!

DIESEL IS FAR FROM ‘DEAD’...KIA CHIEF

As the war of words rages over the capabilities of hybrids, a leading motor industry figure predicts a far brighter future for diesel than some experts envisage.Kia Ireland managing director Ronan Flood, , stressed how much of a mixed bag of power sources we are going to have over the coming years. While acknowledging the acceleration towards electrification - and increasingly preparing for it - he forecasts that diesel will still account for 30pc of all new cars bought in 2025. Petrol will be at 20pc and electrified vehicles will account for 50pc market share. That compares with a 40pc diesel share this year (40pc petrol, 20pc electrified) and suggests there will not be a great collapse in diesel buying. He emphasised that the big challenge for his company, and others, is making sure people buy what they need and are not blinded by the rush to electrify or to switch to hybrids for the sake of it. ”The most important thing we have to do is qualify the customer; for dealers to give guidance. We have people coming in for an electric vehicle (EV) because they feel that is what they should do.”But when you tell them (the full story) they often change their minds.”He’s convinced the only way to ensure that customers come back is to sell them the right car now. He reckons there is more demand for diesel models than Kia can manage at the moment because it is trying to adjust its overall C02 levels to those commensurate with the global company’s targets. However, he is mindful of hurdles looming which could change the motoring landscape. “Brexit remains a problem. It will come back like a sledgehammer,” he said. And then there are the imminent changes to the current VRT system. He hopes there will be plenty of notice given by whatever government is in power. The withdrawal of €3,800 support for PHEVs to companies is one of a couple of major blows from the last Budget that are affecting negatively. “If the Government wants people to buy EVs they don’t want to be taking away incentives and to keep a level playing field,” he said. He reckons the industry is currently in a state of abatement. “At the moment we are pausing for breath to see what will happen with VRT and Brexit.” It could be a tricky year later on.As of now, like many others, Kia can’t get enough EVs. It expects to sell hundreds and hundreds more than last year. So long as there is no (major) change to the grant system, EVs will be in demand. But he is at pains to contend that all the talk about EVs does not mean the end of diesel. There are many reasons in favour of it still, among them lower running costs than petrol and “NOx is not the problem it was at all”.Battery technology and longer range will determine a lot over the coming years, for sure. But Mr Flood is sticking by his prediction, for now, that diesel is far from dead. (Motoring Independent )

You are not just a memory or part of the past You are ours to remember as long as life lasts.” Thinking of you always, your loving wife Nadia and children Veronika and Roman.

with “The Voice” Pat Harnett

FAI NATIONAl P.R.O. OF THE YEAR WAS PRESERVING THE STATUS QUO THE RIGHT CHOICE? The selection policy for selecting the Kerry captain will remain the same – for now – following this week’s County Committee meeting. The motion to give the decision to the team manager in consultation with the County Chairman was passed 50-48 but was well off the 2/3rd majority needed to make this the policy. There is for and against both options and with Kilkenny being the other county who do things the same way as Kerry does it cannot be argued that this has had any real negative effect on the team. But while the captain of a GAA side does not have the same responsibility as say a rugby captain a GAA team needs to have the right person wearing the armband. The selecting of a player as captain does add to the pressure on that person and some thrive and some don’t handle it well. Just because you are the star of the County Championship winning side does not mean you are the best person for the position. Of course the counter argument to that is that this year that person is David Clifford who despite his young age has all the attributes to be Kerry captain without affecting his playing style. And David Clifford will be one of the first names on any team sheet. The Dublin management for example made the decision to appoint Stephen Cluxton as captain a number year’s ago and have stuck with him every year since as he is the leader of that squad. But if you are a player who is not guaranteed his place on the team being the captain is probably something that you could do without. And now it was stated at the meeting that if the player nominated by the County Champions does not make the starting line-up for a League or Championship game then the management pick the captain without any restrictions as to what club or district he is playing with. Back to Kerry and look at a player like Seanie O’Shea who everyone says has all the credentials needed to be a Kerry captain. But if his club or district side don’t win the senior County Championship in say the next 7 or 8 years his time to be the captain could have passed. So for now the decision is to stay with the status quo but those who feel a change is needed will not be giving up. They did win the vote so now their next option is to see can they get the 2/3rd needed for a change. On the Field – It was another good day out for the team with their defeat of Galway to add to their draw with Dublin. It is very early in the League but Kerry have shown Friday 7th February 2020

they will be contenders especially if they can get a win away in Tyrone this weekend. The Kerry hurlers also enjoyed a good day for the Kerry hurlers as they beat former powerhouse Offaly. It is a sign of where Kerry hurling is that this is the second time in a row that they have defeated the Faithful County. Their next game is away to Meath at 2pm on the 15th. rivals and recently crowned Cup champions Griffith College Templeogue in a pulsating in Leopardstown on Saturday night. The Warriors trailed by 12 at quarter time and 11 at half time but produced one of their now trademark comebacks against the odds to secure yet another win, their fifth in a row, against Templeogue. If that wasn’t enough results elsewhere on an extraordinary night of League action saw two of their serious League title rivals both beaten after overtime – DBS Éanna going down to Neptune in Cork and Belfast turned over by Moycullen in Galway. The Warriors made a slow start and were down 29-17 at the end of the first quarter. Scores from Paul Dick, Andre Berry, Ivan Bogdanovic and a three from Kieran Donaghy kept the Tralee side’s scoreboard ticking over. But it was Templeogue that still led at the break 44-33. At the half time break it is certain that Pat Price and his coaching team would have impressed on the Warriors that they were facing into a season defining half of basketball. Despite a good start the Dublin side led 57-50 but two huge three’s from Daniel Jokubaitis started a great run and his six were added to be baskets from Bogdanovic, Lawton, Berry and Quigley and suddenly the League champions took the lead for the first time since the opening minutes. However some Warriors indiscipline late in the quarter threatened to derail all their good work when Templeogue hit an impressive 9 from 9 from the free throw line but Jokubaitis had the last say in the quarter with another stunning three pointer on the buzzer to leave the sides level at 68-68 heading for home. The fourth quarter saw the Warriors jump out to a 10 point lead but Templeogue fought back again to close the gap to 3. A Paul Dick made it 5 two Templeogue scores left the minimum between the sides. But the Warriors defence knew who big a blow a defeat would be and did very held to hold on for a vital win. Scorers: Warriors – Paul Dick 17, Ivan Bogdanovic 16, Andre Berry 14 Templeogue – Lorcan Murphy 22, Jason Killeen 16, Neil Randolph 13 Next up for the Warriors is a meeting with Pyrobel Killester at the Tralee Sport Complex this Saturday night. Tip off as usual is at 7.30pm. WARRIORS INTO U20 LEAGUE QUARTER FINAL: In the final game of the u20 Mens National League South Garvey’s Tralee Warriors defeated Fr. Mathews 75-62 to finish on 10 points and level with UCC Demons with KCYMS in third. This sees them qualify for the quarter final of the competition. DEFEAT FOR TRALEE SCHOOLS: The All Ireland Cup winners Mercy Mounthawk amazing unbeaten run has ended at 18 games as the went down by two points to old rivals St Joseph’s College The Bish from Galway. FINALLY WHILE IT IS NOT A SPORT IT CERTAINLY WILL BE A CONTEST: As well as our normal sport column, where we are always looking for news from new sports or clubs that we are not covering, next week you can also read my coverage of the Election 2020. All will be revealed by next Sunday evening or in the worst case scenario Monday!!
