LEGAL MATTERS CORNER MIRIAM MC GILLICUDDY ANSWERS YOUR LEGAL QUERIES Mediating as conflict resolution. Glenda is separating from her partner of 10 years Roy but is anxious that everything would be sorted out as amicably as possible for the sake of themselves and the children. She has heard of mediation as an option and is wondering how it works. Mediation is a voluntary conflict resolution process where the parties sit down with a third party facilitator to resolve their differences. The facilitator has to be non-biased and nonjudgemental and does not impose solutions on the parties but rather helps them to negotiate their own solutions in the midst of a difficult situation. Feelings and emotions are acknowledged, revealed and identified in order to help the parties move forward to find reasonable solutions to co-parenting and arrangements for the children, maintenance, property division, division of other assets, sorting out of bank accounts, pensions, succession rights and life policies amongst other issues. Since the Mediation Act 2017 commenced on 1/1/2018 there is an obligation on solicitors to provide advice and information on mediation. A court can suggest mediation and indeed has discretion to take into account any unreasonable refusal or failure by a party to consider mediation in assessing costs.

Family Law mediation is therefore very useful for separating couples. The parties should have access to legal advice during the course of the mediation. It is an informal, flexible, cost effective process that works well where the two parties are engaged and fully invested in the process. It is important that the mediated agreement is not legally enforceable until and when it is brought to the parties respective solicitors to be put into a legally binding format as mediators are not legal advisors not do they give legal advice. Once agreement is reached in mediation and one has a signed mediated agreement one has the basis of a workable arrangement usually which can form the basis of a legally binding agreement. Negotiated agreements of this type are much more likely to be adhered to by both parties as they are invested in making them work. Mediation is a better option for children as their views can be ascertained during the process and they can have an input into arrangements. It is important also for mediation to be effective that there is full disclosure of all assets, debts, income and outgoings. Law Quip: Cold War: Hot Peace.

Aquadome insurance costs pose risk to its future Tralee Aqua Dome has warned that if insurance claims rise , it could eventually lead to the closure of the leisure facility . Tralee Waterworld plc,aka the Aquadome recorded pre-tax annual profits of €73,511 by 30-4-19 ., employs 35 staff which contribute over 500k to the local economy . Revenues at the attraction –- last year increased from €1.17m to €1.23m. CEO of the Aqua Dome, Kieran Rutledge, that it is an ongoing battle to keep the Aqua Dome open as it loses money for 66% of the year . He said that the Aqua Dome faces the significant problem of the high level of personal injury awards for small injuries.

He said that the cost of dealing with claims has prevented the Aqua Dome from developing further, as the Aqua Dome’s insurance premiums were €90,000 in 2019 which is an increase on premiums of around €50,000 five years ago. The directors’ report warns

that “successful claims up to the excess amount for a number of consecutive years would pose a significant risk to the business.” Mr Rutledge said that he currently has seven ‘live’ personal injury claims on his desk.

Progress Being Made To Dangerous Junction In Farranfore Kerry County Council has confirmed that progress is being made in regards to the carrying out of improvement works to a dangerous junction in Farranfore Village. The Council were responding to a request from Fianna Fail Councillor Michael Cahill who had called on the Council and Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) to address as a matter of priority, the extremely dangerous and busy 4 Cross road junction at Farranfore village where the Tralee/Killarney road meets with the Killorglin/ Firies/Farranfore road and the Currow/Farranfore road. The Killorglin Councillor had called on TII to take into consideration the fact that 17,000 vehicles pass through Farranfore every day and the fact that the road carries a significant amount of traffic that enters/exits the county on a daily basis v Limerick/ Castleisland. Speaking at this

month’s meeting of Kerry County Council Councillor Cahill said “This junction warrants a major improvement scheme before someone is seriously injured or killed at this location.” “The majority of visitors to our county drive through Farranfore as do the majority of people living in Kerry who wish to drive to Dublin and in this context it has to be one of the busier junctions in Kerry, if not the busiest” stated Mr Cahill. The Fianna Fail Councillor said Improvement works to the junction in Farranfore should be the number One priority for the Council. Charlie O Sullivan, Director of Services, Roads and Transportation gave the following response to Councillor Cahill’s Motion. Farranfore is included in a programme for safety improvement measures based on the collision history along

this section of the N22 (known as HD15 sites), and this junction is being considered as part of the overall plan. A Feasibility Report has been prepared which examines a number of options to address the safety issues arising particularly at the junction. This is a complex scheme which requires extensive

consultation with property owners adjacent to the junction. It is hoped that improvement proposals can be finalised in the coming months and TII funding secured to carry out the necessary works at this location.

IT Tralee Course Nominated for Irish Construction Excellence Award

The Certificate in Building Information Modelling (BIM) with Revit at IT Tralee has been nominated for an Irish Construction Excellence Award in the category “Third Level Course – Postgraduate or CPD.” The Certificate in BIM with Revit is offered as a 4 month (1 semester), 10 ECTS Credit, part-time online programme. Using Revit and other software tools on their own computers, students undertake modelling and collaborative exercises to demonstrate their capacity to engage with typical workflows on a BIM project. Delivery involves a core evening lecture

which is broadcast through IT Tralee’s online Blackboard web portal. This lecture is recorded for review or for learners unable to participate live. It is supplemented with shared content, reading material and various links to external sources. Founded in 1993 the Irish Construction Excellence Awards (ICE Awards) are the original and premier recognition of performance excellence for the contracting sector in Ireland. Entry to the Awards is open to: Building Contractors, Civil Engineering Contractors, Specialist M&E Contractors, Specialist

Contractors, Construction Product Suppliers and Third Level Colleges offering certain construction related courses. Commenting on the nomination, course coordinator Tim Segal said “The course is designed to demonstrate BIM practice to practitioners who are struggling with the early stages of BIM adoption. Participants are encouraged to bring their own personal experience from their particular field as a starting point and are given access to software for practical engagement. The nomination of this programme for an award like this is proof of the innovative approach of IT Tralee to upskilling those already in the workplace.” Brid McElligott, Vice President for Research, Development & External Engagement and Head of Life Long Learning at IT Tralee said “Our Lifelong Learning programme offering has grown significantly over the last number of years,

due in part to the innovative approach IT Tralee staff and their industry colleagues take when evaluating the skills needs for the region. Programmes like the Certificate in Building Information Modelling with Revit utilise online technology to ensure that no matter the hours you work, you will always have the opportunity to upskill and progress in your chosen field. Congratulations to the School of STEM and Tim Segal for their leadership in this area.” The Irish Construction Excellence Awards take place on Saturday 28th of March in the Convention Centre Dublin. Kerry County Council Historian in Residence

Listowel native, Tom Dillon has taken up a position as Historian in Residence with Kerry County Council. This three-month contract position is funded under the Historian in Residence Grant Scheme 2019 as part of the Kerry County Council Decade of Centenaries programme. Mr Dillon will be based at Kerry Library Headquarters, Tralee and will work under the direction of Kerry Library staff to co-ordinate research work and timelines; identify themes, events and notable figures; meet community groups and to promote interest and engagement in history among a non-academic audience. .A graduate of the University of Limerick, Tom completed a Certificate in Local History

in 2012 and an MA with first class honours in the History of the Family in 2013. Over the past six years, he has delivered a series of public lectures around the county about the Kerry men and women who took part in the First World War. He has also volunteered with Kerry County Museum and the Kerry Writers’ Museum along with giving tours as part of the 2019 Architecture Kerry festival. ‘It is a huge honour to serve as the Kerry County Council Historian-in-Residence. On the 100th anniversary of the War of Independence, it is an exciting time to be researching the history of our county and country. So many historical sources have been made available online in recent years

and they have opened up a whole new light on the events of a century ago. From military pension records and medal applications to death inquests, they bring the conflict to life in a very personal way,’ he said. As part of the Residency, the

Historian will hold a number of engagement sessions with community and historical groups in each of the five Municipal Districts.

The aim of these sessions will be to advise on the historical sources available to support the commemoration of events associated with the Decade of Centenaries throughout county Kerry: Municipal District Date Venue Time Tralee Friday, 20 March Tralee Library 10.30am Killarney Thursday, 26 March Killarney Library 10.30am Castleisland & Corca Dhuibhne Friday, 27 March Castleisland Library 10.30am Thursday, 2 April Leabharlann Dhaingean Uí Chúis 11.00am Kenmare Friday, 3 April Kenmare Library 11.00am Listowel Monday, 6 April Listowel Library 10.00am

Lee Strand celebrates 100 years at their Annual Social Over four hundred people attended the 100th year celebration of Lee Strand at their annual social on Saturday, February 8th in the Ballygarry House Hotel in Tralee. The evening marked a special milestone to celebrate 100 years of the establishment of Lee Strand Co-operative in April 1920. The annual gathering attended by farmers, shareholders, staff and customers of Lee Strand was a wonderful social evening of fine dining, great music,

dancing and surprise guest appearances. On arrival guests were welcomed with a special Lee Strand centenary cocktail and prosecco reception in the Pavilion in Ballygarry and was followed by a four course dinner in the banqueting hall. One of Ireland’s leading comedy stars Local Gossip Bernard Casey and the Singing Chef Bryan Carr made special guest appearances during the evening. Following dinner everyone danced the night away to Arklight.

Edward Behan, Killahan, Abbeydorney was announced as the winner of the Lee Strand Overall Milk Quality Award 2019. Speaking on the night Donal Pierse, Chairman, Lee Strand congratulated Edward Behan as recipient of the Lee Strand Overall Milk Quality Award 2019. He also congratulated all of Lee Strand’s monthly quality award winners and commended the quality achievements of Lee Strand farmers who month after

month provide the highest quality milk in Kerry and beyond. Lee Strand also made presentations to two retiring milk suppliers Nora Allman and Simon Leen for their dedication to Lee Strand over the years. Lee Strand’s oldest shareholders Danny Pierse, Pat Griffin and Eileen Scannell, who are in their nineties, were also recognised with a Lifetime Achievement Award for their contribution to Lee Strand over the years.

Open call for women in Kerry to try fishing Inland Fisheries Ireland will be running a number of events to give women in Kerry and nationwide the opportunity to try fishing in 2020. Well renowned angler and one of the world’s leading fly casting instructors, Glenda Powell has partnered with Inland Fisheries Ireland to teach the participants around various venues in Ireland from April to September of this year. The aim of the programme is to give women an opportunity to try fishing in a relaxed and supportive environment with other beginners. Each participant will be concentrated on as an individual and the aim is to develop her own personal requirements during the programme to enable learning. The course will be a mixture of spinning and fly fishing to ensure that each participant gets to experience a variety of fishing methods while figuring out what method works best for them. Participants will Friday 21st February 2020

be encouraged to progress at their own rate of learning while feeling safe in or around water. Each participant will learn a new skill and be in the outdoors and will hopefully develop an interest to continue with the sport. Those wishing to progress to the next level in learning to fish will be encouraged to sign up to future programmes and also to join local angling clubs. Each course will consist of a half-day session either in the morning (9.30am – 1.00pm) or afternoon (2pm - 5.30pm) on Saturdays, Suzanne Campion, Head of Business Development at Inland Fisheries Ireland said: “We are delighted to be able to offer this pilot programme to women as an opportunity to not only learn fishing but have the chance to develop a new skill and past time. In today’s society, outdoor recreational activities are more important than ever from a health and well-being perspective and in

Ireland, we are uniquely placed with the breadth and quality of our fisheries resource which is available to all to enjoy. We want to give these women a unique opportunity to be able to try out this sport in a relaxed and supportive environment among some of our greatest natural resources

Beauty

HELLO BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE I hope you’re having an amazing week.

This week I’m doing something that isn’t necessarily beauty related - but I thought might be of interest anyway. LET’S TALK PODCASTS. I absolutely LOVE podcasts, although they are a more recent trend, I have been listening to some for a few years now. I listen to at least one podcast episode daily. I’m not much of a tv gal, (except when Love Island is on), I’d rather watch YouTube videos or listen to a good podcast. This week I want to talk about my top recommendations for podcasts. I listen to all of the below on Spotify. ON PURPOSE WITH JAY SHETTY Jay Shetty has the most interesting conversations with people, I listen to him almost everyday and always learn something valuable. He has had Jada Pinkett Smith, Kobe Bryant, Robin Sharma, Khloe Kardashian, Jordan Belfort, Gary Vee and so many more on his podcast - a very interesting listen. IT GALZ One of the newest podcasts on my list, the epitome of girl talk, this podcast has me howling laughing. It’s hosted by Jenny & Lindsay, two galz in their 30s who live in Dublin. I HIGHLY recommend. THE JAMES SMITH PODCAST I love all of James’ content but I think his podcasts are my favourite. He is an online Personal Trainer who has a very no BS approach to the fitness industry. His podcasts are VERY informative and easy to listen to. I recommend starting with BOOKS, MENTAL WEALTH or FAT LOSS FOR FEMALES. Or you can just start at the beginning. OPRAH’S SUPER SOUL CONVERSATIONS Is there anything Oprah isn’t amazing at? Listening to her podcast is SO informative but also calming, because, it’s Oprah. I loved her episoden ‘Oprah on the False Power of Ego’. She also has guests on, Dwayne Johnson & Michelle Obama have been two of my recent favourites. MARK MEHIGAN’S SUNDAY ROAST If you want a laugh then Mark Mehigan’s Sunday Roast will have you crying with laughter. Another Irish podcast that I love - Mark’s take on life is simply hilarious and I love listening to his podcast when I need a laugh. THE GARY VEE AUDIO EXPERIENCE Probaby one of my favourites, I have been a fan of Gary Vee for a few years now. I have both of his books and I just really enjoy his content. This podcast is more business focused and he talks a lot about technology and social media, but in an easy to listen to/understand way. Listen to his podcast ‘how to stop caring and start posting’ - it was one of my favourites. FITNESS!

Hello everyone!

Hope you’re having a great week. This week we’re going to talk about recovery. Going to the gym and working out is amazing for your body, but to reap the full benefits you need to make sure you’re getting the right recovery.

SLEEP: we need sleep, it’s a fact. 7-9 hours per

night is optimal. Our bodies need sleep to recover, build muscle and have energy for the next day. I highly recommend the book ‘Why We Sleep’ by Matthew Walker or finding a podcast he featured on. If we don’t get enough sleep our bodies won’t function properly, we will be more irritable and our brain won’t be as sharp as it should be.

PROTEIN: your body needs protein to fuel your

muscles. Insufficient protein in your diet reduces lean body mass, muscle strength, and function. Not consuming enough protein can also cause muscle cramping, weakness, and soreness. Your body will take protein from muscle tissue and use it as energy to support other vital body functions when protein is low.

HYDRATION: as I always say - hydration is key! You need to make sure your body is hydrated at all times - when you workout, your body loses water through sweat so you need to replenish that. If you are dehydrated you will not feel good.

REST DAYS:

you need to give your body a rest day, especially if you’re doing strenuous exercise. I haven’t been very good at this recently, and I felt it in the gym yesterday. I just felt weak and unmotivated. So today I took a much needed rest day and I’m sure I’ll feel way better when I go to the gym tomorrow.

1/2 cup plain flour Salt and freshly ground pepper 4 pounds boneless lamb shoulder or top round, cut into 2-inch cubes 1/2 cup olive oil 2 cups dry red wine2wine2 2 tablespoons sherry vinegar 4 cups chicken stock 2 tablespoons chopped tarragon 1 pound baby carrots, peeled 1 pound baby parsnips, peeled 1 pound small baby potatoes 1/2 pound baby turnips, halved 8 baby fennel bulbs, trimmed, fronds reserved and chopped shallot, minced 2 tablespoons minced parsley

METHOD Step 1 Preheat the oven. Put the flour in a large bowl and season generously with salt and pepper. Add the lamb cubes in 4 batches, tossing to coat thoroughly. Step 2 In a large enameled cast-iron casserole, heat 2 tablespoons of the oil until shimmering. Add one-fourth of the lamb cubes and cook over moderately high heat until browned, about 6 minutes; transfer to a plate. Brown the remaining floured lamb in 3 batches, adding 2 tablespoons of oil to the pot per batch. Reduce the heat if the casserole bottom darkens too much. Step 3 Return all of the lamb to the casserole. Add the wine and vinegar and bring to a boil. Add the stock and tarragon and return to a boil. Season with salt and pepper. Cover the casserole and braise the stew in the oven for about 1 hour, or until the meat is nearly tender. Step 4 Add the carrots, parsnips, potatoes, turnips, fennel and shallot to the lamb stew. Season with salt and pepper and bring to a boil, stirring to distribute the vegetables. Cover the casserole, return it to the oven and cook until the meat and vegetables are tender, about 1 hour longer. Season with salt and pepper. Stir in the parsley and fennel fronds and serve the stew in deep bowls.

TWO PRIESTS WERE PLAYING GOLF...

Father Bob hit his ball into the woods on his first swing, “Damn it! That totally missed!” he cursed. “You shouldn’t curse Father Bob!” said Father Michael “Or god might punish you!” Father Bob apologized and they went on playing. On his next swing, Father Bob hit his ball into the sand pit. “Damn it! That totally missed!” he cursed again. Again, Father Michael warned, “Do not utter such words Father Bob, lest god punishes you for it!” Father Bob apologized again and they continued playing. On his third swing, Father Bob hit his ball into the pond. “Damn it! That totally missed!” cursed Father Bob once again. Before Father Michael could say anything, a ominous dark cloud suddenly gathered out of the blue sky and a vicious lightning came down and stroke Father Michael, killing him instantly. Father Bob was completely stunned, before he could understand what was happening in front of him, he heard a thunderous deep voice coming from the sky - “Damn it! That totally missed!”

A MAN WAKES UP AFTER A HEAVY NIGHT OF DRINKING TO HIS WIFE HAPPILY COOKING BREAKFAST.

Confused, he approaches his daughter for an explanation of last night when he arrived home. “You kicked in the door when you couldn’t get your key in the lock, fell through the table and broke it, and wet your pants.” “ OMG ! So then why the hell is she in such a good mood?” “When she tried to take your pants off to

wash them, you slapped her hand away and said, ‘Get your hands off me! I’m married!’”

A BRIT, A FRENCHMAN AND A SOVIET ARE ASKED WHAT NATIONALITY ADAM AND EVE WERE.

The Brit exclaims “They must have been British! Look at how gentlemanly Adam behaved towards Eve. He must have been an Englishman.” “Outrageous!” Says the Frenchman. “They must have been French. Look at the love that they exhibited towards each other! Only the French can love like that.” The Soviet chuckles and says “You’re both wrong. They must have been Soviet; they had no clothes, no food, and someone in charge was telling them they were in paradise”.

A RUSSIAN WOMAN WROTE TO HER HUSBAND IN THE GULAG:

Vladimir, my love, * I am feeling pretty bad because it looks like I won’t be able to plant the potato garden this year. I’m just too weak* to be digging up a garden plot. If only you were here, my troubles would be over. I know you would dig the plot for me. - Love Maria A few days later, she received a letter from her husband: Dearest Maria, Not for nothing, but don’t dig up that garden. That’s where I buried the gold bars! Love, Vlad At 4 a.m. the next morning, KGB agents arrived at the old house and dug up the entire area. However, they didn’t find any gold, so they eventually gave up and left. That same day, Maria received another letter from her husband. Dear Maria, Go ahead and plant the potatoes now. That’s the best I could do under the circumstances. Love, Vlad

ELECTRIC MUSTANG HEADS UP FORD ELECTRICS

Ford took another step towards the EV era when it showed the new Mustang Mach-E - in Ireland later this year - to a European audience in London. The car-maker has ground to make up in the push towards electrification, but it is now pushing ahead with 14 electrified vehicles due by the end of the year, and 18 by the close of 2021.Some are just 48-volt mild hybrid versions of existing model but it is planning hybrid, plug-in and all-electric versions too.Expect mild hybrid versions of Fiesta, Puma, Focus, Kuga, Transit Custom, Transit and Tourneo Custom by the end of 2021. Full hybrid versions of the Mondeo, Kuga S-Max and Galaxy will be joined by a plugin Explorer, Kuga, Transit Custom and Tourneo Custom. An all-electric Transit van will join the Mustang Mach-E.To back the EV push, Ford has plans for a lithium-ion battery assembly facilities at it Valencia plant in Spain. In addition to providing 1,000 charging points at its facilities and continued investment in the Ionity fast-charging network, the company will offer a wall-box capable of charging five times quicker than a domestic socket. The Mach-E is now the emblem of EV change for Ford. It is so different to the iconic all-American sports car from which it takes its name.It looks smaller than its 4.7-metre length suggests, but overall is nicely proportioned. The Kuga is probably its nearest rival on size. The Mach-E will cost from around the €50,000 mark. It ticks boxes for practicality, range and styling and could introduce the Mustang name to a whole new audience. (INDEPENDENT MOTORING )

CORONAVIRUS: CHINESE GP POSTPONED AS IMPACT ON CAR INDUSTRY GROWS

This year’s Chinese Grand Prix has been postponed because of continued health concerns over the coronavirus outbreak - the latest impact the virus has had on the country’s car industry. The race was due to take place at the Shanghai International Circuit on 19 April but has now been postponed by Formula 1 bosses following a request by the event organisers and Chinese motorsport’s governing body. A new date for the event, which would have been the fourth round of this year’s championship, has yet to be finalised. The Chinese GP is the first F1 event to be postponed since the 2011 Bahrain Grand Prix. That event was ultimately cancelled due to civil unrest in the country. If the spread of coronavirus is halted and the country is able to hold a race later this year, F1 bosses face a tough challenge to find a spot for it on the crowded schedule, with a record 22 races originally planned.Reports suggest that more than 1000 people have died in China due to the coronavirus, officially called Covid-19, and the number of deaths recorded per day continues to rise – although the number of new infections recorded has begun to fall. The largest number of cases – more than 31,000 – have been recorded in Hubei province, where the virus originated.Although only around 300 cases have been recorded in Shanghai, officials in the city have implemented a number of measures to restrict its spread, including limitations of movement and the requirement to wear masks in public. Similar restrictions are in place in Beijing.Measures to contain the spread of the disease have resulted in a number of car firms – including Mercedes, Honda, Nissan and Tesla – and car parts companies temporarily shutting plants in the country. While some, such as Mercedes, have now resumed limited production, continued disruption is understood to be likely. The impact of China’s factory closures is being felt globally. The postponing of the Chinese GP will raise questions over whether this year’s Beijing motor show, due to happen on 21-30 April, will take place, although the event organiser has yet to issue a statement via its website. FAI NATIONAl P.R.O. OF THE YEAR TEEING OFF WITH GOLF THIS WEEK: John Ferriter (Castlewarden, Co. Kildare) was elected President of the Golfing Union of Ireland at the Union’s Annual General Meeting held at Carton House Hotel in County Kildare on Saturday 15th February. Ferriter, originally from County Kerry, becomes the 72nd President of the Union and speaking afterwards he said: “I’m looking forward to serving the Union as President, sentimentally as it’s the last year of the Union it will be an important one and I’m looking forward to the year ahead”. John is a retired teacher and along with his wife has a house in Kerry and is still a regular visitor to the county. Co. Armagh’s John White was elected to the post of President Elect while Albert Lee (Hon. Secretary) and Rollo McClure (Hon. Treasurer) were also returned to office. The clubs and delegates in attendance approved unanimously the five motions before the meeting which will assist in a timely and efficient handover to Golf Ireland from January 2021. Tim O’Connor (Chairman) and Mark Kennelly (CEO) from Golf Ireland also briefed the meeting on developments. Mark Kennelly is also a Kerry man from Killarney and was a special adviser to Enda Kenney during his time as Taoiseach. Speaking of the changes to the game there is a new handicap system being introduced and a number of workshops will be held around the country to explain the changes to the countries players. It was a quiet weekend on the courses with Storm Denis putting paid to any competitions taking place. STAYING IN THE GREEN’S WITH PITCH N PUTT NEWS: Unfortunately, the effects of ‘Storm Dennis’ put pay to the planned start of the Kerry Inter-Club Matchplay at the weekend. The County Board have decided to refix the competition somewhat with Castleisland now hosting the first round on Sunday as Tralee will take on Deerpark and Listowel will take on Newmarket with play getting underway at 10am. Friday 21st February 2020

Deerpark will now host Round 2 on Sunday March 1st with the other three venues all going back one week. Listowel will be on March 8th, Newmarket March 15th and Tralee on March 22nd now. The final will take place on Sunday March 29th now. All clubs are reminded that the competition is a dress code event. ST PATRICK’S DAY PLANS UNDERWAY: The Kerry County Council - Tralee Municipal District is inviting those interested in taking part in the Parade to apply as soon as possible. The Parade will be on at 12 noon on Tuesday the 17th March. The closing date is on Monday March 9th. This year the new Festival Team have implemented a number of changes to the format including

a ‘Let’s Get Green’ Theme and awards along with allowing novel or unique companies and business to participate. We would really be delighted if you would consider participating and in your own small way implement a fun, innovative and engaging ‘Let’s Get Green’ Theme! The Parade is supported by the Kerry County Council and the Tralee Municipal District Community Support Fund. And to Lead the Parade: Surely there can only be one group to lead this year’s Parade and that is the Na Gaeil club and their All Ireland trophy? SUPERLEAGUE DERBY TO PACK THE COMPLEX:

now well established in the sports top flight. And they come to the Sports Complex this Saturday night, February 22nd, for a huge game in this year’s title race. Both sides won last weekend with Garvey’s winning away to Moycullen and Keanes defeating Abbey Seals. That leaves the Tralee side with a 3 point lead at the top of the table as they look to win back to back SuperLeague titles. Keanes are now in joint 5th on 30 points and only three off the sides in joint third as they look to secure a top six spot and their best finished since they were promoted two seasons ago. The Complex will be packed well before tip- off and if you haven’t experience the game night experience that the Warriors put on this would be the game to go to. And once all the preliminaries are over the battle royal will commence on the court and with the speed and athleticism – not to mind the height – of the players it is obvious why three referees are needed!! Warriors are in good form and were able to rest players at the weekend and will be looking for big games from the likes of Paul Dick, Kieran Donaghy, Andre Berry, Jonathan Lawton and Ivan Bogdanovic plus Fergal and Darren O’Sullivan and Rap Buivydas. Killorglin are also in good form and will be looking for Rami Gahanem and Allan Thomas plus their new signing Denzel Brito who will be experiencing the Complex for the first time. On the other hand Declan Wall knows both the hall and the Warriors well and will be hoping to chip in with his customary three pointers. The battle of the coaches will also be fascinating with Colin O’Reilly doubling up as player/coach and Pat Price who is doing everything he can to add a consecutive SuperLeague titles to his impressive CV. Of course the Warriors have the possibility of a points deduction hanging over them and they have expressed their disappointment that the Men’s National Competitions Committee has decided to appeal the decision of the independent National Appeals Committee to Sports Dispute Solutions Ireland. PRO Alan Cantwell issued the statement on behalf of the club and added that “the Warriors will continue to deal with the matter in an appropriate manner and will not be making any comment in relation to the process or the dispute itself at this time”.

Tralee is backing the CBS school who are in the Corn Ui Mhuiri final this Saturday with the Colleges A decider taking place in the Fitzgerald Stadium. The Tralee school will take on the competitions hot shots St Brendan’s College Killarney. All the clubs in the Tralee Board Area whether they are represented on the squad or not, are behind the team in the hope that they bring the prestigious Cup to the town. The same two colleges meet in the Frewen and Brother Taft Cup finals.

TRALEE BEHIND THE CBS:

ANOTHER HONOUR FOR SHANE: Well done to Shane Conway who has been named as the GAA.ie Hurler of the Week coming out ahead of Clare’s Tony Kelly and Dublin’s Rian McBride. It ended a big week for Shane as he helped UCC to retain the Fitzgibbon Cup hitting 9 points on the night and then scored 7 points as Kerry defeated Meath away in their League Division 2 game.

No matter what the sport the day of the local derby is one that all fans look forward to. In basketball’s SuperLeague it used to be the Tralee versus Killarney games but all that has changed. GREAT INITIATIVE BY COISTE TRA LI: One unit of the GAA in Kerry has introduced a new “zero tolerance” for the duration of games under their control which are geared towards eliminating “foul and abusive” language towards match officials Coiste Trá Lí committee has this year decided to introduce a new zero tolerance policy in regards to the abuse and the use of foul and abusive language towards match officials saying, “It will not be tolerated under any circumstances.” in a circular to clubs under their control. This is being done to encourage younger people to take up refereeing. Referees are being instructed by the board to report any form of abuse or foul language they receive either during or after a game. Any reports of it will be dealt with by the CCCC. This policy has the full backing of the Board and the club delegates. Clubs have been asked to inform mentors of this policy as It is the responsibility of the clubs to inform their mentors of this “as ignorance will not be accepted as a defence” the statement confirmed. SCOR DATES The Tralee area finals of Scor na bPaisti must be completed by April 5th. The South Kerry (semi-final) will take place at 3pm on Saturday April 18th.
