LEGAL MATTERS CORNER MIRIAM MC GILLICUDDY ANSWERS YOUR LEGAL QUERIES PHOTOGRAPHY AND THE LAW. Thelma enjoys taking photographs of all kinds of subjects . She is considering publishing a book of her best photographs and is wondering what is her legal position in relation to the photographs that she has taken. Photography has changed dramatically from the age of developing professional photographs in dark rooms to the cheaper point and shoot digital camera of today where images can be uploaded and transmitted online globally in seconds. Widespread dissemination of photographs is commonplace as everyone is now a budding photographer. So the legalities around photographs are of interest to large swathes of the population. 1.

2.

Photographers have a qualified right to take photographs in a public place. E.g. footpaths, roads and public parks are usually not problem but if it is a government run facility they can place restrictions e.g. the National Art Gallery to protect paintings. On the other hand private landowners can restrict photography on their premises. If planning to sell a photograph it is better not to just rely on verbal consent but also get a written consent so there can be no dispute afterwards. If a person’s privacy is breached by taking the photograph without their consent they could sue for breach of privacy and the distress and trauma caused to them.Written consent to the taking of the photograph where one has an interesting subject is the best way to go. Professional photographers will get model releases where in return for a small sum the person grants permission to the use of

their image. Taking photographs including copyrighted or trademarked material can get a photographer in trouble as well unless one has written consent to the use of the trademark e.g. an apple mac computer or a Coca-Cola bottle. Certain laws e.g. Child Pornography law prohibit the use of certain images where there is a sexual element involving children under 18. The photographer is regarded as the owner of the copyright in the photograph unless he/she is an employee in which case their employer has the copyright ownership in the work unless otherwise agreed. A photograph usually involves selection of the subject matter, posing of subjects,, lighting, selection of equipment and settings on the camera, editing or photoshopping the images after taking the photograph and these are all considered creative input that ensures most photographs are protected by copyright law. If someone wants to use the image the author needs to transfer the use of it in writing. If one is commissioning photographs such as wedding photographs it is important to ensure that the photographer signs over all the copyright in the photographs to the married couple. Anne would place a copyright notice on her book to ensure photographs are not copied without her consent. Moreover taking the same unusual photograph or subject matter can be breach of a photographers copyright as well and there have been a number of famous cases involving this situation.

Happy Snapping. Lawquip: Your camera takes great photos. Yes I taught it everything it knows.

Rose Hotel Circuit of Kerry Rally Welsh Invasion Entries for the Rose Hotel Circuit of Kerry have opened and already there are several overseas drivers who have expressed an interest in entering the Tralee-based April 5th event. The Abbeyleix Manor Rally marked the opening round of the locally sponsored Top Part West Coast Championship two weeks ago.The Rose Hotel Circuit of Kerry is the second round of the series and Welsh driver Steve Wood is the provisional championship leader. At the finish line in Abbeyleix he confirmed to Kerry Motor Club members that his next event this side of the Irish Sea will be the Circuit of Kerry. He has finished third on the rally on two different occasions in the past and this year he and his co-driver Abbeyfeale’s Keith Moriarty will use the same Ford Fiesta that Corkman Daragh O’Riordan used to win last year’s rally. “I like the rally, I like the area, and Keith knows the territory,” Wood told Kerry Motor Club on Sunday evening.Dai Roberts, who made his Circuit of Kerry debut Friday 6th March 2020

last year is another Welshman advancing his plans to return to Tralee in April. The Welsh crews, like all overseas entrants, will race for the London Irish Motor Club International trophy presented by long-time KMC member Sean Moriarty who is one of the founding members of LIMC. He is keen to maintain links between the two clubs. The nine-stage 120km rally will feature the return of the classic Desmond’s Grave stage alongside a spectator friendly stage near Kilflynn. “I am delighted to offer an entry fee of €725 for main field, the same as last year, our committee has worked tirelessly behind the scenes to cut back running costs without taking from the standards drivers would expect from Kerry Motor Club,” said clerk of the course Eoin Duffin. “We look forward to welcoming new and old friends to Tralee in April, especially the returning National Championship contenders.” The Rose Hotel-based event will be a round of four major

rally championships as the Triton Showers National Rally Championship returns to Kerry for the first time since 2018. Kerry Motor Club’s main event is also a counting round of the Top Part West Coast Rally Championship and the Moriarty’s Centra Kingdom of Kerry Rally Championship. The Rose Hotel is considered the best rally base in the country, the outstanding facilities at the hotel, as well as the ample space in the hotel’s

What’s Happening In Tralee..

Timmy Sheehan R.I.P. Press Box in the Sky gets a new member. The whole sporting community in Kerry is joined in sadness this week with the sudden death of the respected sports commentator and columnist Timmy Sheehan. While it is his wife Anne, children Billy and Lorraine and his extended family that will miss him the most his loss will be very much felt in the various Press Boxes and sporting side lines around the county. Timmy was firstly a sportsman and fan. He enjoyed success on the GAA field with his beloved Austin Stacks, played soccer with Tralee

Dynamos and St Brendan’s Park, was a lifelong Liverpool fan and was heavily involved in basketball. He wrote a much anticipated weekly column in the Kerryman, was PRO for various clubs and an MC at many many functions and celebrations over the years. But while he stood out in all these aspects of covering sport it was his association with Radio Kerry Sport that he will be most remembered for. Timmy was the ideal person for the station in that he had a love of all sports, loved covering each of them and

then his conversations in the studio with Joe O’Mahoney were a hugely important part of the weekend sports programmes on Radio Kerry. It was through the radio and basketball where I got to know Timmy and he would always have a chat about how various teams were going or how certain Kerry players were doing,. It would be fair to say that Timmy was one of the ‘old style’ reporters as he was rarely seen without his notepad and pencil. To finish with a sporting analogy Timmy enjoyed many victories in life, in love and

in sport. A loving family, a job that he did for over 40 years and then 30 year plus of covering sport. A life, while too short, very well lived. He will be long remembered every time a game is played in Kerry.

James Rusk secures top LIT Soccer scholarship Two Kerry sportspeople, soccer player James Rusk from Tralee and hurler Barry Mahony from Crotta were among the 56 international athletes to receive the Limerick Institute of Technology Sports Scholarship this academic year. The recipients were honoured at a special event at LIT, Moylish Campus last Tuesday , during which keynote speaker World Rugby Referee and former LIT Sport Scholarship recipient Joy Neville spoke of the value of sports scholarships and the opportunities open to the recipients during their time at LIT. Supported by sponsors PMI, the LIT Sports Scholarships are set apart from other sports scholarships as they encourage young

athletes to achieve greatness in their chosen sport, while also providing a vast range of off-field supports for their education and mental wellbeing. In its third year, the new LIT’s Sports Scholarship Programme provides athletic support, focuses on individual welfare, and includes off-field mentoring and education support to its recipients. This year’s recipients excel at a number of sports including basketball, camogie, hurling, Gaelic football, handball, rugby, kickboxing and swimming. President of LIT, Prof Vincent Cunnane, described the scholarships as reflective of LIT’s ethos - supporting its students to be the best they can be in their chosen field, while also

ensuring they have the skillset and knowledge to succeed long after they graduate from LIT.“It is important to understand that first and foremost these young athletes are part of an institution which recognises them as a member of its community. That means valuing them and supporting them in a balanced way. It’s about what happens off the field and off the track as much as on it. “The LIT Sports Scholarship Programme puts the circumstances in place to allow the recipients to unlock as much of their potential as possible. In addition to financial aid, we have a number of athlete support measures built into our programme to do this. These range from offfield mentoring to education

support, sports psychology, and advice on managing issues like social media,” he said.Sports stars including international ruby referee Joy Neville, hurling All Stars Seamus Callanan (Tipperary) and Peter Duggan (Clare), and Irish boxer Christina Desmond have previously received this scholarship from LIT

Three brave women are planning to jump 13,000 feet out of a plane – all in aid of a Kerry charity

The dive, which was originally scheduled for today (Sunday), has now been postponed due to Storm Jorge – however, the girls are still ready for the big challenge on Sunday, April 5. Marie O’Sullivan, Stephanie Horan and Lauren Fitzell are amongst 87 people from across Kerry who will take the leap of faith at the Irish Parachute Club in Edenderry over three days for Recovery Haven’s biggest ever fundraisers to date. The charity, celebrating 10 years this year, has been completely overwhelmed by the outpouring of support for their inaugural skydive event, which was initially supposed

to take place on Leap Year day, February 29, but was extended to three days due to phenomenal demand. Marie, who is a Slimming World consultant in Killarney, roped in two members for the thrilling adventure. “We’ve never done a skydive before,” Marie, who lost six stone, told the Killarney Advertiser this week. “When this popped up the pull for me was huge. I always wanted to do a skydive but couldn’t as I was obese for years.” Marie was aged eleven when her mom passed away from cancer. It had a huge impact

on her life leading to a life of weight issues. “The weight held me back my whole life. I had no confidence and was embarrassed because of my size. My mom died aged 42, the age I am now. Recovery Haven is close to my heart and I’m more than delighted to do it.” In total the girls have raised a whopping €5,400 in just three weeks. Marie raised €2,200, Stephanie €1,800 and Lauren €1,400. For Stephanie, who is a teacher in St Brigid’s Killarney, the challenge is huge but worth it.

“I had a family member who passed away from cancer and a family member currently availing of the RH service. I can’t say enough about them.” Lauren, who lost five stone, added that it’s a chance to give something back.

Tralee Girl Guide Patricia scoops Best Robot Design award A member of Irish Girl Guides (IGG) from Tralee is gearing up to compete in the FIRST LEGO League All Ireland Final that will take place in the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Dublin, on Saturday 8 March 2020. Patricia Gutteridge (16) of Tralee Senior Branch is part of a team of six IGG members who scooped the award for Best Robot Design at the regional finals that took place in Dublin City University on 15 February. FIRST stands for ‘For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology’ and the FIRST LEGO League, which takes place in over 90 countries, encourages children and young people aged 11-16 to think like scientists and engineers, developing practical solutions to real-world issues. The teams operate under a signature core set of values, which include creative thinking, problem-solving, teamwork, communication and the spirit of friendly competition and co-operation. The IGG members wowed the judges at the regional finals with their research, design and programming skills. As well as designing and building an Friday 6th March 2020

automated robot, they spent several months researching an issue with public spaces and buildings in their community and devised an innovation solution to combat this. Patricia said: “When I first applied for the competition I had no idea what it really was or what I would be doing. It just seemed interesting so I went for it. Looking back now, I am so glad I did it because it has been such an amazing challenge and has taught me so much. She continued, “I think the thing I enjoyed the most was getting to design, build and code the robot as I have always been interested in coding and robotics. Prof Deirdre Butler of Dublin City University’s LEGO Education Innovation Studio, said: “ It has been such a pleasure working with the Girl Guide teams, the deep commitment, perseverance and ingenuity they have demonstrated to work as a team when they are all based in different parts of the city and country is incredible. Not only have they developed a

range of STEM competencies but I believe these girls will be ‘future makers’ using their skills to help solve the complex challenges of the connected world we live in, making it a better place for all.” Irish Girl Guides welcomes new youth members from age 5-30 and new volunteer leaders from age 18+. No previous Guiding experience is necessary. To find out more, see www.irishgirlguides.ie or tel: 01 6683898.

Complex is calling this Saturday as Warriors continue unbeaten run

Garvey’s Tralee Warriors cemented their position at the top of the Super League table after securing three more priceless points, this time at the expense of Maree, at the Castleisland Community Centre on Sunday night. The game was originally scheduled to be played on Saturday night in Tralee but Maree heeded the Storm Jorge red weather warning and did not travel to the Kingdom until Sunday afternoon. With just two games remaining in the League campaign the Warriors are one win clear of their only rivals for title, Belfast Star. Belfast enjoyed a facile 102-61 win over Abbey Seals Dublin Lions in Clondalkin on Saturday night to stay within touching distance of the defending champions as the finishing line comes into sharp focus. Next up for the Warriors is the final home game of the regular season when they host Abbey Seals Dublin Lions at the Tralee Sports Complex next Saturday night with tip off at 7.30pm.(Alan Cantwell PRO , Photos Liam Ryan )

A Kerry Euromillions Winner for €500,000

Two lucky players in Dublin and Kerry woke up this morning €500,000 richer after sharing €1 million each on last night’s draw EuroMillions Plus draw. These are the fifth and sixth Irish EuroMillions Plus wins this yearThe lucky EuroMillions Plus Quick Pick tickets were sold in Dunnes Stores in the Square Shopping Centre, Tallaght, Dublin 24 and in Sheahan’s Centra Supermarket, Glenbeigh Village, Glenbeigh, Co Kerry. Aisling Sheahan, Sheahan’s Centra in the seaside town of Glenbeigh said: “It is fantastic news for our town and we are getting all our customers this morning to check their tickets. I have no idea who the winner is, as we have a lot of regular customers. During the summer it could be anyone as we get a lot of tourists but this time Friday 6th March 2020

of year hopefully it’s a local who has won this prize”This is the second major National Lottery win in two years for Sheahan’s Centra in Glenbeigh, who sold a winning Lotto Plus 2 ticket worth €250,000 back in February 2018, almost two years to the day later. The National Lottery is now encouraging all its players in Dublin and Kerry to check their tickets. A spokesperson said: “For many across the country this week is the week you get paid after a long month so what a lovely time this is to get a half a million payday bonus. If you are one of those two lucky ticketholders, be sure to sign the back of the ticket and contact our prize claims team on 01 836 4444 and we will make arrangements for you to come to the National Lottery Winner’s Room to get your

prize”. The spokesperson added: “Ireland is on a roll at the moment when it comes to EuroMillions Plus wins with six so far this year. It is a definitely a case of the rub of the green for our players. We hope it continues for the rest of the year.” The €67,084,643 EuroMillions jackpot was won last night in Portugal. Beauty

HELLO BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE I hope you’re having an amazing week.

I don’t know if you’re aware but I have a YouTuber Channel that I post videos on three times a week, Tuesday, Thursday & Sunday. This Tuesday I posted my 2020 Favourites so far, so I said I would mention some of them here too - if you want to watch the entire video you can search ‘Rebecca Shortt’ on YouTube & you’ll find me.

BONDI SANDS BODY MOISTURISER I discovered this amazing body moisturiser when I lived in Sydney. If you know me you know I love coconut scents, this smells amazing. Balances the skin’s PH level, can be used with self tan, is SLS & Paraben free and also Vegan. One of the best body moisturisers I’ve used.

DERMALOGICA DAILY MICROFOLIANT This product has came into my life in the last month and I absolutley love it. It’s a daily exfoliant that polishes the skin whilst being super gentle. I absolutely love how it makes my skin feel, it’s working wonders for the texture and smoothness. CHARLOTTE TILBURY COLLAGEN LIP BATH Part of Charlotte Tilbury’s new Pillow Talk Collection she has launched the new Collagen Lip Bath, which is essentially a lip gloss, but so much more! • ‘Super lip’ peptides – to moisturise and enhance the look of the volume of the lip • Lip Plump-Effect Mustard Sprout Extract - hydrates lips and defines the contours of the lips and creating a fuller appearance • Marine collagen - has a magical hydrating effect • Vitamin A – helps to improve the appearance of rough and dry skin for smoother-looking lips • Coconut Oil - softening and nourishing properties • Marula Oil – made from the fruit of the marula tree, which is native to Africa. It’s rich in essential fatty acids and contains the antioxidants Vitamin C and Vitamin E • Peppermint Oil – for a refreshing flavour • Organic Menthol Crystals – create a cool feeling on the lips • Pearlescent pigments – Light reflecting to highlight and define the lips If you enjoyed these favourites, there are more over on my YouTube channel so be sure to check that out. All the links to everything I mentioned are there also. I recently set up an email list for weekly beauty emails so if you want to be on that, email me at bexblahbeauty@gmail.com Friday 6th March 2020

WELLA SP LUXE OIL This stuff is the most amazing hair oil. I was introduced to it by the girls in Patrick’s The Hair Company. It’s a hair serum that smells AMAZING, I use it in my hair after I style it, or as a scalp mask before I wash my hair. It smoothes the hair and gives it an amazing shine! NOTE COSMETICS SCULPT MASTER MASCARA I’ve mentioned this mascara more than once, and that’s because I absolutely love it. It’s so so good! You need to try it for yourself to believe me! And it’s also under €10. DERMALOGICA BIOLUMIN C EYE SERUM I wasn’t using an eye serum regularly until I started using this and I have seen a massive difference. It plumps and hydrates my eye area whilst not being too heavy on my skin, it also gives an awakend glow as it’s infused with Vitamin C. You absolutely need to try it!

Hope you’re having a great week. Last week, on my YouTube Channel (Rebecca Shortt), I started a fitness series called ‘Let’s Get Fit’. I want to inspire other people to get fit and help them realise that being fit can look so different for each individual. That things don’t have to be done exactly the same for everyone, everyone is their own person and has their own body - so it’s important that we all realise what works for one person, is not going to necessarily work for someone else and their lifestyle.

I am currently tracking my macros (Protein, Carbs & Fat) and daily calories. I know how many calories I should have in a day to be in line with my goals and progress in the gym, and I know how many of those calories should come from protein sources. I am aware of hitting my protein target everyday so I make food choices based on that, because it’s what my body needs.

Last week I delved into my journey with fitness, and my relationship with food - which I think is now quite healthy.

If I want to go out for food, I will. But I will also make sure that during that day I will eat high protein meals so that I am in line with my target. If I want a John Doughs Kinder Bueno Doughnut, I will have one. Will I have one every day? No. Why? Because when you don’t restrict yourself from certain very high calorie foods, you don’t want them everyday. You get to a place of balance and eating foods that will enhance your training at the gym, your workouts and will give your body the fuel it needs everyday.

I think it’s very important to have a healthy relationship with food Forming a healthy relationship with food takes conscious effort, but it is possible. This relationship includes relaxed eating, choosing preferences over positions, and practicing balance and flexibility in your eating. I don’t see any food as ‘good’ or ‘bad’ and you will NEVER hear me say the phrase ‘Oh I’ve been so bold recently’. Why? Because I eat for my goals, I eat for pleasure and I eat without guilt. If I choose to eat something, why would I feel guilty for that choice? It makes no sense to me.

Life is too damn short to feel guilty about a cookie that you deprived yourself of for two weeks and then finally ate. IT’S A COOKIE. I promise, it’s not

something to feel guilty about, nor is any food. If you feel you have a negative relationship when it comes to food, please seek the help of a reputable professional. I personally recommend Recalibrated Bodies online coaching. If you want to see more of me or what I’m doing with my Let’s Get Fit YouTube series, subscribe to my YouTube channel ‘Rebecca Shortt’.

YOU CAN REALLY SEE HOW MUCH TRUMP CARES ABOUT CREATING JOBS IN THIS COUNTRY The White House seems to always be hiring.

I’ve just let out a silent fart! What should I do?” Her husband leans over to her and replies, “Get a new battery for your hearing aid.”

IT’S THE FIRST WORLD WAR, AND A FRENCH BATTALION AND A GERMAN BATTALION FACE EACH OTHER IN THE TRENCHES.

It’s a rather slow day, and the Krauts sit bored in their trenches. Then, a young corporal speaks: “We really need to kill more frenchies! What can we do to lure them out?” A young recruit asks, “What is a typical french name?” Another answers, “Pierre.” The young recruit gets up, puts his rifle on the edge of the trench, aims, then shouts, “Pierre!!” From the other trench, a blue helmed head pops up, and answeres, “Oui?” Bang! The frenchman falls over dead. The german shouts again, “Pierre!!” Another french man looks up, asking “Oui?” Bang! He is dead as well. This continues for another half an hour, with the germans having a whale of a good time. The french commanders

stick their heads together. “This can’t continue! Our men are dying like flies!” “Can’t we turn that tactic on them, as well?” The french think. “What’s a typical German name?” “Erich.” They decide to try it out immediatly. They send a soldier out with their new master plan. He get’s his rifle, nervously peeks out of the trench at the german line, then shouts: “Erich!!” Nothing happens. He shouts again, “Erich!!” Still, no answer. Slightly annoyed, he shouts louder. “ERICH!!” From the other side, a german voice in french asks, “Is that you, Pierre?” The french soldier looks up, “Oui!!”,and Bang, get’s shot.

ELECTRIC MINI IS ON THE WAY !!

The first electric MINI was displayed in Ireland recently. The MINI Cooper SE motor has three trim levels and costs from €27,765 on-the-road (after SEAI grant/ VRT rebate).Powered by a 184hp lithium-ion battery pack, they claim a range of 235km to 270km depending on model. It’s nippy: going from 0kmh to 100kmh in 7.3 seconds. They say its performance is close to that of the hot-hatch MINI Cooper S. Standard spec includes a new digital dashboard, connected navigation and LED headlights and tail lights. You can charge it at a household socket, wall-box or public charging station, with fast direct-current charging possible at up to 50kW.Based on the same bodyshell as the 3dr hatch, there are visual clues that this is different. The front grille is closed and there are special 17ins MINI Electric two-tone wheels (optional).Mid-level trim has a cloth/leather-look upholstery, additional exterior body colour and wheel options, rear Park Distance Control (PDC)/camera, seat heating, etc - from €30,405.The range-topping version adds front PDC, park assist, Harmon Kardon sound system, head-up display, panoramic sun roof, Matrix LEDs, upgraded 8.8ins infotainment touch screen, leather, etc. It costs €35,695.The 12-module battery pack (32.6kWh) lies under the front seats and below the rear ones. Home and public charging cables come as standard. Weighing 1,365kg, the MINI Electric is 145kgs heavier than the current MINI Cooper S 3dr auto. The centre of gravity is 30mm lower than the MINI Cooper S. iNDO MOTORING

MOTORING SNIPPETS ... WE LIKE E-SCOOTERS !!!

It is hard to believe that half a century has passed since Dublin Corporation foisted the first parking metres on us.Yes, 2,500 of the items, costing IR£90,000 were installed 50 years ago this year, I am reliably informed. They’ve been steadily clicking up the hours, and the money, ever since. An hour’s parking back then cost one shilling. * I strongly agree with one finding of a new drivers’ survey. Little annoys me more than a driver not bothering to indicate.A DoneDeal survey of 1,000 Irish drivers found 32pc of motorists feel similarly. The rest of the findings are largely along the lines you’d expect, except that only 18pc were annoyed with people using their phones while at the wheel. It should be 100pc, it’s potentially lethal.One-in-four complained about drivers ahead of them going too slowly.Better than too quickly, I say. * I loved the following ‘genderisation’ in a recent Opel press release:”Meanwhile, the electric Corsa-e (134bhp) has a range of up to 337km and has the same internal space as its petrol and diesel sisters.”* Nearly three-in-four motorists (72pc) drive to work each day, but only 6pc of them carpool. What a waste But one-fifth (20pc) told Carzone, in its latest motoring report, that they would consider using an e-scooter to commute.Nearly a third of 18-34 year-olds are open to the idea compared with 21pc of those aged 45-plus.The survey found: * 46pc believe e-scooters are a faster way to get to work; * *79pc would consider using one as a cheaper alternative to a car; * 62pc would use an e-scooter to help protect the environment; * 48pc fear exposure to the elements; * 36pc perceived the e-scooters as not being safe; * 32pc would not consider one because they are not yet legal on our roads. The report is compiled by analysing data from the 80 million car views carried out on Carzone in 2019 and an additional in-depth survey of more than 1,500 Irish drivers. * Volkswagen has slashed the price of its electric e-Golf to €27,895 as it realistically anticipates the advent and impact of the longer-range new ID.3 EV this year and next. The €27,895 price is for a private customer after Government incentives. There is also a high-spec e-Golf Executive edition which kicks off at €31,550. It adds Vienna leather upholstery, 17ins Madrid alloys, LED rear lights, keyless entry, rearview camera and Active Info Display. It cites CSO figures to show that the average commuting distance in Ireland is 14.7km, making the case, no doubt, that the e-Golf’s 231km range might suit quite a few commuters at that lowered price. FAI NATIONAl P.R.O. OF THE YEAR LACEY CUP GETS CYCLING SEASON UNDERWAY:

The 2020 Lacey Cup will be held on Sunday the 8th of March, hosted as always by Tralee Manor West Bicycle Club. The Lacey Cup is the grand opener to the Munster racing season when all cyclists will be anxious to show some good early season form. The race always draws a large field of riders, with over 200 competing in recent years. Some of the top Irish riders will be in action on the day, all intent on taking home the coveted Lacey Cup. This year in accordance with new rulings from Cycling Ireland, there will be a separate race for the A4 category, which will start after the main A1/ A2/A3 race. The course is the usual challenging 75KM circuit. Past winners include Conor Kissane (2019), Matteo Cigala (2018), Sean Hahessy (2017), Daragh O’Mahoney (2016), Seán Mc Kenna (‘15), Damian Shaw (‘14), Seán Lacey (‘09,’10,’11,’12,’13) Martin O’Loughlin (‘07,’08) and Matt Slattery (‘03). It is hoped that the Cup can be kept in Kerry this year with two of the top juniors, Tom Moriarty and Sean Barrett, in the country due to be in the race. The race will have a neutralised start from the Manor West Hotel & Leisure Centre, which will be the main venue and headquarters for the race. Departure from the hotel will be at 12:00pm sharp. Racing will officially commence from George Poff’s Garage on the Dingle road at 12.30 and will pass through Blennerville (12.35), Camp (13.00), Upper Camp, Gleann na nGealt (13.10), Annascaul (13.25), Inch (13.30), Boolteens (13.50), Castlemaine (13.55), Sliabh Mish (14.05) and finishing at 14.15 at the 60kph signs at Skehanagh Cross on the Killorglin road in Tralee. The main race is run on a handicap basis consisting of 3 groups with the first group of Category A3 riders, followed by the A2’s, and finally the group of elite A1 Category riders. The A4 race will start approximately 5 mins after the A1 riders are underway. The A4 race will follow the same route. The first prime of the race is at Friday 6th March 2020

Gleann na nGealt. As in previous years the A1 and A2 groups behind will have merged and will have the job of catching the race leaders as they head towards Inch. After Castlemaine the riders head for the 2nd Prime, The Teddy Griffin Memorial Trophy, awarded to the first rider over Sliabh Mish Mountain where the race has usually broken up into a small group of elite A1 and A2 riders, with the expected winner coming from these groups. It all promises to be an exciting days racing with plenty of exciting action along the route to keep spectators entertained. All riders must sign on from 10.00am to 11.30am sharp at the Manor West Hotel, who will provide parking and facilities for the presentations following the race. LIONS THE FINAL HOME CHALLENGE FOR THE WARRIORS:

Garvey’s Tralee Warriors go into their final home game sitting on top of the SuperLeague with a three point lead over Belfast Star. This week they welcome bottom side Abbey Seals Dublin Lions to the Complex on Saturday night at 7.30but the home side will certainly not be taking the game for granted. The crowd will also be keeping an eye on the Northern contenders for the SuperLeague title as they welcome Neptune to Belfast. In a nice fixture twist Neptune in Cork are the Warriors last game and they still have a chance of making the Top 6 and the Champions Trophy so they will be giving it all to win these two games. And Belfast Star hit the Warriors opponents for 102 in a big win. But all that’s a week ahead. For now all the Warriors will be focusing on is the Dublin side. And they will be coming in on a high as they hit 100 points to defeat Maree in a game that was moved from Saturday to Sunday and from Tralee to Castleisland due to Storm Jorge. The first quarter saw the Warriors jump out to an early 19-12 lead but while the Galway side tried to fight back the score at 23-18 to the Warriors. And the Tralee began to push ahead in the second quarter thanks in part to back to back three’s from Fergal O’Sullivan. At the end of the second quarter it was 43-30 to the home side playing

in Castleisland. With scores coming from a wide range of players the Warriors lead was soon 18 but credit to Maree they closed the gap to just 5 points. However Bogdanovic hit two baskets off the bench and the Jon Lawton’s four scores in a row put the game back in the Warriors hands. They led by 11 with the final quarter to play. And they were not going to slip up and to emphasise this Jokubaitis hit 4 threes in a row and the Warriors had an 18 point lead. Again Maree made a run by the Warriors were too strong at both ends of the court and it the game was in the win column. The fans got their wish when Eoin Quigley made the big score to see them reach 100 points. For the Warriors Andre Berry ended with 19, Daniel Jokubaitis on 18 and Jon Lawton who ended with 13. SCORPIONS STING THE WHEELBLASTERS:

The Kingdom Wheelblasters welcomed the Limerick side the Scorpions to the John Mitchels Gym. The visitors won the game but again the Tralee side put in a big effort led by Dean McCarthy and Cian Horgan. ACTION AT THE TRACK: On Friday at the Kingdom Greyhound Stadium it’s the semi-finals of the Greyhound and Pet World Juvenile Classic plus a number of supporting 12 dogs stakes for the final night on March 13th. The track is also looking for entries for a one off open 750 yards race on March 13th. On Saturday night it’s the first round heats of the ON2 325 yards Novice Stake in conjunction with the Ballymac, Castleisland and Scartaglen are with lots of kids activities and music after racing. There will also be racing on Sunday with the first of 8 races starting at 6.36pm. The track is also taking entries for the John and Mary Killeacle Dowling Ai 570 yards starting on Friday March 27th.. KBN MARCH FOR CHANGE: The Kerry Businesswomen’s Network (KBN) is holding a 5km walk in a ‘March for Change’ in support of the Kerry Rape and Sexual Abuse Centre and the Kerry Women’s Refuge and Support Centre to mark International Women’s Day 2020. The rally uses stages on the Kerry border near Brosna. WELL DONE TO DOMINICK: Once again at the annual Press Photographers Association of Ireland there was success for Kerry snappers. This time it was the well- known Dominck Walsh who won a prize for a photograph he took at the election count. Tralee based Dominick is also well known at the counties sports grounds and all the big events that take place across the county. Congratulations from all at the Advertiser. STORM GONE BEFORE MATCH PLAY GAMES TEED OFF: Thankfully the effects of Storm Jorge on Saturday did not prevent the staging of our second round of matches in the Kerry Inter-Club Matchplay last Sunday morning as Deerpark held up well to the recent spate of bad weather. The two clubs that lost out the first weekend were the two winners on Sunday. Tralee had a 7-2 victory over Newmarket with Listowel 6-3 winners over Castleisland in the latter’s first match of the campaign. Tralee had lost out to Deerpark in their first match the previous week but made a great start against Newmarket in winning all three of the doubles matches. Jason Cregan and Keith O’Brien defeated Newmarket’s Con Buckley & Jimmy O’Sullivan 5&4 to give them their first point of the day while Tony Blake & Paul O’Shea were 3&2 winners over Ben Newman & Paudie Flynn. The combination of Danny O’Leary & Pa Fitzgibbon rounded off their clean sweep of the doubles with a 6&5 win over Willie John Buckley & Brendan Herlihy. Con Buckley finally put Newmarket on the board in the Singles with a first playoff hole win over Alan Hobbart, but Pa Byrne from Tralee would beat Newmarket’s Jimmy O’Sullivan over the same distance. Willie John Buckley kept Newmarket’s hopes of an upset alive with a 2&1 win over Roger Guthrie but three 2&1 wins for Jason O’Regan (over Ben Newman), Keith O’Brien (over Brendan Herlihy) and John Fitzgerald (over Padraig O’Flynn) wrapped up Tralee’s win. Listowel meanwhile would come from 2-1 down to Castleisland after the Doubles to win by 6-3 courtesy of five Singles game wins. Details of Round 3 due for this Sunday will be confirmed in due course as well as the table but as it stands Tralee, Listowel, Newmarket and Deerpark all have one win each from the two rounds played thus far.
