HELLo everyone! & welcome back to this brand new weekly column, 'Create with Rebecca', a page where I will be talking ALL things social media! (yaaaaaaay!). This column will be especially helpful for those in business looking to navigate the world pf social media for their business. I will be simplifying EVERYTHING as well as giving my top tips. Oh, by the way... I can edit videos, advise you on social media & create a new vibe for your brand! (Aka video editor, social media consultant & graphic designer) - so I know what I'm talking about!

SOCIAL MEDIA STRATEGY Do you need a social media strategy? What is a social media strategy? Can I not just wing it? -

These topics have been coming up a lot recently. And today especially I am talking to businesses on social media. Think about it this way, social media as an aspect of your business and should be treated as such. It should get just as much priority as your finances, product, staff and services. Social Media is such an important part of your business structure, and therefore you should strategise it. Just like you'd have a financial plan for the month ahead, you should also have a social media plan. The biggest complaint that people have when it comes to social media is figuring out what to post and not having a schedule, by planning your social media for the month or even months ahead. It may seem overwhelming at first, but... isn't every part of owning / running a business. In business there are things you like to do, and things you don't but that you know need to get done anyway, make social media one of these things. One of my biggest tips when it comes to social media strategy is to figure out your 'content pillars' - 3-5 subjects that relate to your business that every single piece of content will relate to. For example, humour, information and community might be your content pillars so then when you think about that content you're going to post you look at those pillars and brainstorm ideas, this is why it's good to have a creative on your social media team - I have no doubt they'll have a lot more ideas than most!

I hope you are as excited as I am for this new weekly Social Media column! I am excited to help you all become social media savvy and to learn tips and tricks along the way. For more information on what I do or if you are interested in any of my social media service: I offer 1:1 consultation calls, video editing, graphic design and more, you can follow @create.socialmedia on instagram or email me: createtralee@gmail.com to book a call!

4 Susan Crean’s Dental Practice Lands Major Business Accolade The founder of Tralee based dental practice Susan Crean Dental Facial Aesthetics has achieved a major accolade from the All-Ireland Business Foundation. Dr. Susan Crean has been named All-Star Lifestyle Leader Dental Facial Aesthetics 2021 in recognition of her contribution to Kerry business and to the dental industry. The accreditation is a huge success for Susan and her team who are celebrating their first year in business. Business All-Star Accreditation is an independently verified standard mark for indigenous businesses, based on rigorous selection criteria. The Accreditation is overseen by the prestigious All-Ireland Business Foundation, whose adjudication panel is chaired by Dr Briga Hynes of the

University of Limerick and Kieran Ring, CEO of the Global Institute of Logistics. Reacting to the announcement, practice founder Dr. Susan Crean said: “The team at Susan Crean Dental and Facial Aesthetics are delighted to have been accredited with An All-Stars in business and customer service. We are thrilled to be recognised as business leaders in our field and declared lifestyle leaders. We are indebted to our patients. Without them this would not be achievable . The accreditation is something which we are immensely proud of as we believe it is recognition of the gold standard of care, trust and dedication to customer service which is the ethos of the practice. For a newly established clinic it is a phenomenal achievement as we celebrate our first year in business. We look forward to expanding the business further whilst continuing to provide excellence in-patient care and customer satisfaction, creating new smiles and glowing skin for all our patients.” Deputy Chair on the Adjudication Board Kieran Ring, said in support of the announcement: “Susan adopts a holistic approach to dental care where everything is taken into consideration, from jaw joint, salivary glands, neck glands,

Susan pictured with her staff Grace and Daniel...and her award! gums to teeth. Dr. Crean plans the optimum dental journey for her patients creating the smile that they deserve. Finally, Susan is an informed opinion leader and the go-to person in her field of dental facial aesthetics. She is a trusted source who moves and inspires people with innovative ideas, she turns ideas into reality.” Managing Director of the AllIreland Business Foundation Kapil Khanna said “The Accreditation, which is now held by over 500 firms, is needed by the thousands of small and medium businesses which operate to their own standards, but have nothing to measure them by.” He said: “We evaluate a company’s background, trustworthiness and performance, and we speak to customers, employees and

vendors. We also anonymously approach the company as a customer and report back on the experience. The business goes through at least two interviews and is scored on every part of the process against set metrics.” The All-Ireland Business Foundation (AIBF) is an autonomous national accreditation body tasked with enterprise development and the promotion of Bestin-Class in Irish business. The Foundation actively engages and supports its network through peer-dialogue, collaboration, mentoring and enterprise development activities. Companies are qualified for accreditation by completing an enterprise audit and are identified by their use of the AIBF’s Business All-Star Marque.

KEEP YOUR BUSINESS IN TRALEE AND KEEP TRALEE IN BUSINESS!

Kerry Mental Health Association Welcomes Launch of Kerry Mental Health & Wellbeing Hub

Ryles Remedies by Mike and Gráinne Ryle Hi Mike, with the recent heatwave, what advice would you give somone that has gotten sunburned? I think some of the days were so hot in recent weeks that even the most cavalier of sunbathers wore an appropiate suncream. As always, prevention is better than cure and a high factor suncream applied before exposure is much less painful than trying to treat sunburn afterwards. But we've all been there and if you do get burned my best advice is: • Get out of the sun as soon as possible. Normally if you think you're getting burned it's already too late. Don't stay out in it any longer to see if your suspicions are becoming reality. • Cool your skin with a cool shower (but not for too long) or bath. • Rehydrate the skin using an aftersun or a skin moisturiser that you may have to hand. Apply liberally and frequently. Aloe vera gel is ideal for this, and even more soothing when stored in the fridge. • The discomfort and inflammation may be alleviated by an anti-inflammatory tablet such as ibuprofen. • Drink plenty of water to cool down and prevent dehydration. If you feel particularly parched, electrolyte sachets or a hypertonic sports drink can help you to hydrate fast. • If your skin blisters, allow the blisters to heal. Some people can't wait to burst a blister! But blisters are your friend, and help your skin to heal and prevent infection. • Cover sunburned skin from direct sunlight until it has fully healed.

KERRY Mental Health Association has welcomed the launch of the Kerry Mental Health and Wellbeing Hub which will improve the accessibility to mental health supports for young people in the county. The Hub is made up statutory and community services that together provide a wide range of supports across 20+ issues from addiction to depression to self-harm. The supports are tailored at various levels of need, from online information to group support, to one-to-one counselling so the user will always be able to find the right support, at the right time. The General Manager of Kerry Mental Health Association, John Drummey, said: “We welcome the launch of the Kerry Mental Health and Wellbeing Hub and we are proud to be listed as one of the service providers on the website. More than half (53%) of the respondents to our* recent survey of Leaving Certificate students in Kerry said they would not know where to go if they, or someone they know, needed help from professional mental health services right away. The aim of the group is to identify gaps in service provision and address them through interagency working. Central to the work is ensuring that children and young people are ‘front & centre’ and can access information & identify appropriate supports quickly and easily. A link to the CYPSC is available on the Local Resources page on www.KerryMentalHealth.ie. The objective of Kerry Mental Health Association is to promote the general welfare of people and to support those with mental health challenges and their families and carers through the provision of information, by advocating on their behalf; to provide education and training programmes that promote good mental health and wellbeing; and supports those with mental health challenges. There are Branches in Tralee, Killarney, Kenmare, Castleisland, Listowel, Killorglin, Iveragh, Corca Dhuibhne and Rathmore/ East Kerry.

We must learn from our mistakes, so don't forget the trouble and discomfort that the sunburn caused you when you next go out in the sun. Remember to apply the suncream before you go out and after swimmimg and excessive sweating. And although sunburn is a temporary condition, over exposure can also cause long-lasting damage to the skin. If your burn is particularly severe, or if you are suffering from any other symptoms which might suggest that you have sun stroke, contact your pharmacy who will happily advise on the best course of action.

Presentation to the Rose Hotel Tralee The Rose hotel in Tralee is the first company in Co. Kerry to complete the 50 Shades Greener Programme, which is currently running through the Business Support Unit in Kerry College. On completion of the programme, Odran Lucy, Executive Chef at the hotel says “we are delighted to be the first in Kerry to complete the programme which we could only have done with a fantastic team effort”. He says the key to completing the programme during the busy season was that every department in the Rose got involved. They established the industries baseline of use of energy, water and waste, and then identified opportunities for cost savings & reduction of utilities- easily defined by using the 50 Shades Greener methodology. The hotel’s Director of sales and marketing, Michelle King, added “being a sustainable hotel is a very important part of our business model, from corporate bookings to holiday guests, more and more of our customers are asking about our green policy- 50 Shades

Greener is now an important part of our model”. Both have stressed the importance of having all of their hotel departments involved in the course. They now look closely at how they present themselves sustainably when purchasing and offering their guests a greener hotel experience. Over 120 businesses from the hospitality and travel sector have participated over the last 6 months in Ireland’s first ever state-subsidised green hospitality programme, Fifty Shades Greener. Fourteen hospitality establishments have engaged on the programme to date in Kerry. Mick Ryan, Kerry College Business Support Unit highlighted that “Participation in the programme is fully subsidised at present for all businesses in the hospitality and tourism sector in Ireland and teaches simple and cost effective steps to help reduce carbon emissions and cut operating costs by €10,000 - €60,000 per year on average. This is achieved primarily by lowering energy and water use and

Tralee To Celebrate 10 Day Family Friendly Festival

The team behind the traditional Féile na mBláth Park Festival, which is held annually in June in Tralee, have announced plans for a series of family-friendly and COVID-compliant events over the course of ten days later this month. Tralee Municipal District of Kerry County Council and Tralee Chamber Alliance will be running the 2021 Park Festival at Pearse Park in the town between 19th and 29th August, details of which are now available on www.festivaltralee.com All aspects of the family-oriented occasion will be held in full compliance with public health guidelines and will ensure that the prevailing advice in that regard is applied. Mayor of Tralee, Cllr Johnnie Wall said: “As a Municipal District in Tralee, we spoke earlier this year about our ambition to hold a few events in the town towards the end of the summer of restrictions allowed. The Park Festival has all the ingredients to celebrate the return of live music, food, and arts to Tralee, in a safe way. The ten-day Friday 13th August 2021

festival, with the support of Tralee Chamber Alliance, will see three separate events take place all under the one Marquee in Pearse Park.” The festival will commence with an Irish Dancing ‘Féis’ with 500 dancers descending on the town. This will be followed by the traditional ‘Féile’ with Street Theatre Shows featuring Tralee’s own Fanzini Brothers, flower displays, puppet shows, circus workshops, family gardening, drum pods, dog shows and more. The final event ‘Tralee Music Revival’ is presented exclusively by Tralee Chamber Alliance and will showcase live music from Tralee Bands such as ‘AfterShock’, ‘Sweet FA’, ‘Renovator’, ‘Comic Book Heroes’, ‘Queenless Kings’ and wrapping up the Festival with ‘Oracle’ on the Saturday night, all taking place under a specially designed opensided Festival Marquee with Cabaret Style seating. Ticket prices average from €2.50 for the ‘Féis’ & ‘Féile’ which is a subsidised price under the 2021 Kerry County

Council Community Support Fund and €5 per person for the ‘Revival’ aspect which is supported by the Live Music Support Scheme. Tickets for the ‘Féile’ aspect of the event are fully redeemable from the on-site Food Court. Audiences will be asked to comply with all current safety guidelines by booking tickets, completing a Covid-eForm 24 hrs before arrival, temperature checks, sight of Covid App and adherence to social distancing, and mask wearing while moving around. Unlike the traditional June Festival this is a controlled event with a maximum of 200 people allowed in the Park.

Mayor Wall commended the work of local event management company Shannon Star Entertainment for helping to bring all aspects together. “The support from our own Health and Safety Department in Kerry County Council along with the Tralee Municipal District members and staff to ensure the Event Management Company have the tools they need to present the 10 day of activities where everyone feels safe and secure,” he said. MAHATMA GANDHI,

as you know, walked barefoot most of the time, which produced an impressive set of calluses on his feet. He also ate very little, which made him rather frail and with his odd diet, he suffered from bad breath. This made him. (Oh, man, this is so bad, it’s good. . .) A super calloused fragile mystic hexed by halitosis.

A WIFE

starts taking her clothes off and asks her husband, ‘What attracts you to me the most ? my pretty face or my great body?’ Husband looks her up and down for a moment and replies, ‘Your sense of humour.’

TWO MEN ARE STARING AT A POLE.

After a while a blonde woman walks up to them and asks them what they are looking at. One of them says, “ We are trying to determine the height of the pole.” So the blonde quickly opens her purse, removes a spanner, unscrews the bolts and lays the pole flat on the ground. She then pulls out a measuring tape, measures the distance between the two ends, tells it to the two men and walks away. After hearing this one man tells the other, “What an idiot! We ask for the height and she gives us the length!”

TWO MEN ARE OUT IN THE WOODS WHEN ONE OF THEM SUDDENLY COLLAPSES.

His eyes are foggy and he doesn’t seem to be breathing. The other guy whips out his phone and dials 911. He screams into the phone, “Help! Help! My friend is dead! What do I do?” The operator says, “Sir, please calm down. I can help. First, make sure your friend is actually dead.” There is a brief pause, and then a loud bang. “OK, now what

KING OF THE JUNGLE.

A lion woke up one morning feeling really rowdy and mean. He went out and cornered a small monkey and roared, “Who is mightiest of all jungle animals?” The trembling monkey says, “You are, mighty lion! Later, the lion confronts a ox and fiercely bellows, “Who is the mightiest of all jungle animals?” The terrified ox stammers, “Oh great lion, you are the mightiest animal in the jungle!” On a roll now, the lion swaggers up to an elephant and roars, “Who is mightiest of all jungle animals?” Fast as lightning, the elephant snatches up the lion with his trunk, slams him against a tree half a dozen times leaving the lion feeling like it’d been run over by a safari wagon. The elephant then stomps on the lion till it looks like a corn tortilla and ambles away. The lion lets out a moan of pain, lifts his head weakly and hollers after the elephant - “Just because you don’t know the answer, you don’t have to get so upset about it!”

OUR PROPERTY PAGE IN ASSOCIATION WITH TOMMY CARMODY’S PROPERTY HOUSE

Tommy’s current market outlook... Hi Tommy how are you? We are looking to sell a home which we have inherited in September or October but are getting CONFLICTING advice on how to prepare the home in relation to REDECORATING / STAGING. Is this a worthwhile exercise? Mary C Hi Mary. Thank you for reaching out. YES it is worthwhile. They say a picture speaks a thousand words… please see the before and after photos showing a recent staging project we arranged and you will see the power of staging. It was such a success it got coverage in the BUSINESS POST. Staging can be virtual or actual staging and the cost will surprise you! The idea of staging is not to pull a fast one on purchases but instead to help them visualise what the home can look like with a little rejigging and the staging style will be determined by the likely target market whether it be

a family or say a professional couple or down-sizer. Given this home has been inherited it is safe to assume I imagine, that the furnishings and décor is of a certain vintage/era. This will likely give the first impression to viewers that the home needs a lot of money spent to bring the home up to scratch. This is not always the case. It may be the case that by simply lifting old carpets, removing excess furniture or all, and giving the home a new lease of life through painting all white or another neutral colour will give a superior first impression and result in you achieving maximum value. We can help you arrange all staging, removal of furnishings, stripping back and decoration. Give a call when suits and we will get you up and running.

Lululemon signs 10-year lease on flagship Grafton Street store The post-pandemic fortunes of Grafton Street have received another boost with the decision of leading ‘athleisure’ brand, Lululemon to open a standalone store in the premises occupied formerly by Pamela Scott. The Canadian fashion retailer is expected to open for business at 84 Grafton Street this October following the agreement of a new 10-year lease. Lululemon is understood to be paying a rent of about €400,000 per annum and will trade from 325sq m (3,498sq ft) of space distributed across the ground and first floors of the property, with the remainder of the accommodation being given over to ancillary or staff use. While Lululemon has had a presence on Grafton Street since 2018, its operations have up to now been confined to a concession at Brown Thomas. The brand’s new standalone Friday 13th August 2021

premises meanwhile comprise a high-profile four-storey over-basement building with a feature double-height glazed shop front. Number 84 occupies one of the best positions on Grafton Street at its Duke Street junction, and is surrounded by a number of premium occupiers including Brown Thomas, Marks & Spencer, Space NK, Rituals, & Other Stories and Victoria’s Secret. The letting will be viewed as another show of confidence in Dublin’s premier shopping district coming as it does just weeks after German investor Deka Immobilien agreed the €22 million purchase of the Grafton Street premises of sustainable fashion retailer, & Other Stories from UKheadquartered Aviva Investors. Earlier this year, Hugo Boss signed a new 10-year lease on its flagship store at 67/68 Grafton Street following the

expiration of its old lease in 2020. The premium German fashion retailer committed to a new annual rent of €630,000. Taken together, the three transactions should go some way in countering the additional uncertainty Grafton Street and other high streets have faced as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic. That uncertainty was reflected only

Call Chris or Colette Tel: 066-7126399 or e-mail : traleeadvertiser@gmail.com

recently by Tommy Hilfiger’s decision to close its Grafton Street store permanently. However with retail heavyweights American Eagle , Asics, Gym +Coffee already committed to Dublin and Kate Spade waiting on the wings , it seems the retail landscape is changing for the good ...once again! TALKING SPORT WITH THE TRALEE ADVERTISER 28

with “The Voice” Pat Harnett

FAI NATIONAl P.R.O. OF THE YEAR WEEK’S POSTPONEMENT THE RIGHT CALL: While it certainly isn’t ideal the call by the GAA to postpone the All Ireland semi-final against Tyrone by one week is the right call. One would hope that if it was the other way around the call would be the same. But I certainly would not agree with the two weeks that the Tyrone management subsequently said they requested. However as some Tyrone players and management were isolating at the time of the Ulster final the question must be asked as to how things have gotten worse. It was interesting to hear the Limerick hurler complaining that their game was put back 30 minutes due to a truck shedding its load of hay on the N7. He said is affected both teams but that was a late call as both teams were in warmup mode. For Kerry the notice has come six days out but what it does mean is that Kerry will be without a game for four weeks. Most players and managers saw 2 is ideal and three at a stretch. But the management now need a quick restructuring of their plans as they would now be in countdown mode. Now they will have to go back and put in some sessions this week and then re-start the countdown from next Monday. From a Tyrone point of view there is now doubt that preparations will be very difficult especially if a significant number of the squad cannot train together. How will they manage from now until Saturday August 21st will determine if they be able for the Kerry challenge. And if they can’t play that day then it has to be a walkover – something that Kerry won’t want but Tyrone cannot be allowed drag out the championship any longer. The other big question from a fan’s point of view is as Kerry versus Tyrone is a stand- alone fixture will 40,000 be allowed in? The All Ireland is also postponed until Saturday September 4th with Dublin and Mayo playing off this weekend to become the first side into the decider.

KNOCK-OUT STAGES: Having seen Kerry camogie defeat Galway and Tipperary I was delighted that they defeated Laois by a big margin to progress from the Group stages. A 2-11 to 0-05 point win saw them overtake their opponents Laois to progress behind Group winner Derry. It was also revenge for the Kerry ladies as Laois knocked them out at the quarter final stage last year. KERRY HURLERS LOOKING FOR A NEW MANAGER: The search is on for a new Kerry senior hurling manager to replace Fintan O’Connor who had a successful spell in charge. Like all managers he had some very good and bad days but always carried himself well, spoke very well to the media and it has been acknowledged by many that his term has brought Kerry hurling on. And now it is over to the next man to continue the progression. In the County Championship this column will again be following the fortunes of Lixnaw, home of my paternal grandparents. They got their campaign off to a 1-12 to 1-08 win over Ballyheigue. AUSTIN STACKS NEWS: The u7’s are looking forward to welcoming Ballymac to Connolly Park this Sunday at 11am. The u8/9’s and 10’s will also train as normal on Sunday and during the week. The u12/13’s enjoyed their second win in the u13 League Phase 2 defeating Fossa 2-09 to 1-06. The Division 9 side had a big win over the same opposition. The u15’s defeated Killorglin in their League encounter. The B’s won a closely contested Division 4 opener away to St Pat’s in Blennerville. The club was delighted with the turn out for the Camp and thanks all the coaches involved for their work. The young players were delighted with a visit from Kieran Donaghy.

In the Credit Union County League Division 1 Dingle defeated the Rahillys seniors 1-02 to 2-16 in Paddy Kennedy Park in Annascaul. FRONT GETS BETTER WITH SEAN’S CALL The Kerry 17’s and 19’s both took a point from their most recent games in the EA Sports League of Ireland. The 19’s have been working hard in training and playing well but not getting the results and will be hoping to build on their point against Cabinteely. While the 14’s were beaten their real test will come in a few weeks when the Shield Phase will begin. IN MEMORY THE MIRACLE PRAYER

by August 27th, 2021 Friday 13th August 2021

Dear Heart of Jesus in the past I have asked for many favours, this time I ask you this special one (mention favour). Take it dear Heart of Jesus and place it within your Heart where your Father sees it, then in his merciful eyes it will become your favour not mine. Amen. Say this prayer three times for three days and your favour will be granted. Never known to fail. Must promise publication of prayer. S.B.
