LEGAL CORNER

The More you tell the more you sell!!!

Get your business noticed in Tralee’s favourite Friday read

LEGAL MATTERS CORNER MIRIAM MC GILLICUDDY ANSWERS YOUR LEGAL QUERIES Adrian has just bought a state of the art drone with inbuilt camera/video equipment. He is really interested in photography and making home videos and is wondering what his legal position is in relation to the use of the drone. A drone is an unmanned remotely piloted aircraft. Both model aircraft and drones are small unmanned aircraft and the same rules apply to their operation. The rules are set out in the Small Unmanned Aircraft (Drones) and Rockets Order, 2015 (SI 563 of 2015). These are as follows: One must never operate a drone: • if it will be a hazard to another aircraft in flight • over an assembly of people - 12 persons or more • farther than 300m from the person operating the drone • within 30m of any person, vessel or structure not under the control of the person operating the drone • closer than 5km from an aerodrome • in a negligent or reckless manner so as to endanger life or property of others • over 400ft (120m) above ground level • over urban areas • in civil or military controlled airspace

• •

in restricted areas (e.g. military installations, prisons, etc.) unless the person operating the drone has permission from the landowner for take-off and landing. If Adrian wants to fly his drone outside the limits set out above he has to apply for a Specific Operating Permission (SOP) from the IAA following training with one of the IAA Registered Training Facilities (RTF). Where one has a drone weighing between 1kg ( including weight of battery and all attached equipment) to 25 Kg and the drones are operated over 15m (50ft) the drone must be registered with the IAA and this can be done through the website www.iaa.ie/drones. This applies to model aircraft over 1kg as well. Once a person is over 16 years of age they can register a drone. Drones operated by those under 16 years of age must be registered by a parent or legal guardian. If the Drone is over 25kg it must be registered with the IAA directly. A Drone over 150kg must be registered like a manned aircraft. Drones must not be operated beyond a distance of 300m or a height of 400ft (120m) above ground level in uncontrolled airspace and beyond a distance of 300m or a height of 50ft (15m) in certain parts of controlled airspace. It is important to insure the drone against damage to itself or to property, persons or animals. A drone that uses camera/video equipment must be cognisant of data protection legislation as well as privacy rights and the consents required for use of people’s images or locations. Also regard must be had to the law of trespass in relation to entry over private property.

Lawquip: Stop dreaming about pizza delivery by drone. It’s a pie-in-the-sky idea. If you have a legal query or need further information on any item addressed in this column please send in your query to miriam.mcgillycuddy@gmail.com Miriam McGillycuddy, Solicitor, Derryana, Ballyard, Tralee, County Kerry. Medical Matters VITAMIN B12 DR KATE VERNON Vitamin B12 injections seem to be all the rage amongst celebrities these days! People claim B12 can cure everything from fatigue, to weight gain, to low libido. What is the evidence behind these injections, and who needs them? What does Vitamin B12 do? Vitamin B12 keeps your nervous system and red blood cells healthy. Where do I get Vitamin B12? Vitamin B12 is only found naturally in fish, meat, poultry, eggs, and milk. Many foods, such as breakfast cereals, are fortified with vitamin B12. What are the symptoms of Vitamin B12 deficiency? If your vitamin B12 level is low enough to cause anaemia (low blood count), symptoms can include lack of energy, breathlessness, and palpitations. Other symptoms include pins and needles, blurred vision, mouth ulcers, and forgetfulness. Your GP will decide if you need a blood test for B12 levels.

What causes B12 deficiency? 1. Strict vegan diet or a poorly balanced diet 2. Pernicious anaemia is a rare condition where you are not able to absorb B12 in your gut. 3. Medications such as metformin (“Glucophage” - for diabetes) and acid suppressing stomach tablets (e.g. omeprazole) What is the treatment for B12 deficiency? If you have pernicious anaemia, you need a lifelong treatment with injections of B12 every three months. If you don’t, your doctor will advise you about a healthy diet and start you on a B12 tablet every day and recheck your blood in a few weeks to make sure they are working. If your levels are unchanged, you doctor may consider a course of B12 injections. B12 injections are painful and only of use in people with a true deficiency. Ignore the celebrities and eat a balanced diet instead!

WHAT’S HAPPENING IN TRALEE... Kerry Chambers Make Commitment to Fight for Change to Regional Strategy THE Kerry Chambers of Commerce have issued a comprehensive jointsubmission and have expressed a commitment to fight for changes to be made to the Regional Spatial and Economic Strategy (RSES) for the Southern Region. The Chambers have warned, in their submission, that the RSES document will adversely affect Kerry as it significantly undervalues the role the county can play in the region from now until 2031, during which time, Cork and Limerick will grow five times faster than Kerry. The RSES, which will be adopted in July 2019, after the local elections, does not include any significant plans for investment into the development of infrastructure,

and ultimately job creation in Kerry from 2020 onwards. The Chief Executive of Tralee Chamber Alliance, Ken Tobin, said: “The RSES will affect how, and where we work, live and raise our families in Kerry over the next 12 years. The document defines what investment comes into the county and how our region should develop. “The document as it currently stands, goes against the best interests of our county. We are calling for a full re-evaluation of the approach taken to Kerry. We have submitted 34 key recommendations which are missing from the plan. In fact, the RSES appears to have overlooked Kerry, such is the level of attention given to Cork, Limerick and Waterford.” Among the 34 recommendations from Kerry Chambers of Commerce that were omitted from the RSES include progressing the construction of the Adare Bypass, increased investment into Kerry Airport and development of a 10-year social and affordable housing strategy for all Kerry towns. The Chamber submission also calls for investment in Kerry’s

main town centres to make it desirable for people to return to the Kingdom to work and live. The seven Kerry-based Chambers of Commerce believe that the RSES Southern Assembly still has time to re-evaluate the overall approach to Kerry for the good of the county and have asked for the Southern Assembly to meet with all Kerry stakeholders before finalising the document. “The RSES document doesn’t reflect the actual level of

ambition that we have for our county and is entirely inappropriate for Kerry. There is an onus on the Southern Assembly to plan for the future of rural areas which give our county its ‘sense of place’ and unique cultural heritage,” added Ken Tobin. A copy of the submission from the seven Chambers in Kerry is available to view on https:// tralee.ie/rses/

Brid Mc Elligott, VicePresident, for Research, Development and External Engagement, said this week that the work-placement element of all Honours Degree courses is one of the reasons for the growing interest in attending the institute. “Work experience combined with the curriculum delivered by our committed and dedicated academic team ensures that the graduates of the IT Tralee are work-ready, with over 90% of our honours degree graduates securing work or pursuing further education opportunities such as Master or PhD studies within six months of graduating.” Nationally, IT Tralee is the only Institute of Technology in Ireland to share a campus with a technology park, leading to significant job opportunities Friday 5th April 2019

for IT Tralee graduates. Pharmaceutical packaging company Central Pharma recently announced that they are to create 100 jobs over the next five years. These jobs will be based at the IDA’s newly constructed Advanced Technology Building at the Kerry Business Park in Tralee, which shares a c.45 hectare campus with the Institute of Technology Tralee. Speaking on the announcement, Central Pharma’s CEO Alwyn Smit said that having the hi-tech building on the same campus as IT Tralee with its STEM faculty, played a major role in the company’s decision to locate in Kerry. Dr Oliver Murphy, President of IT Tralee emphasised the importance of the creation of the Munster Technological University (MTU), which will see the merger of IT Tralee and Cork Institute of Technology. “MTU will bring

considerable advantages to the staff and students of the ITT, as well as delivering benefits for the citizens and economy of the region. Both Institutes are committed to achieving Technological University status and plan to register students in the new Munster Technological University in September 2019.” Dr Murphy said. For further information about any of IT Tralee’s wide range of full-time and parttime programmes visit www. ittralee.ie and download the current prospectus or contact the Admissions Office at 066 7145638.

WHAT’S HAPPENING IN TRALEE... Kerry and Cork Credit Unions working together to support local farmers. Early milking was the order of the day on as Six Credit Unions in the Kerry/Cork region joined forces to launch a new Agri Loan product called Cultivate. The launch held in The Gleneagle Hotel, Killarney was supported by farmers and industry experts alike. The Credit Unions involved are Ballincollig, Bantry and Kanturk in Cork and on the Kerry side of the boarder Cara, (Castleisland, Killorglin & tralee Branches) Killarney and Listowel Credit Unions. The new Credit Union farm lending offering is branded under the name “Cultivate” and was officially launched by IFA National Chairman - Farm Business, Martin Stapleton. MC for the night was Pat Spillane, Rural Ambassador and Former Kerry GAA star and guest speaker was Darragh Mc Cullough from RTE’s ‘Ear to the Ground’. The Credit Union farm lending project is modelled on a pilot initiative by four Credit Unions in County Galway who

launched the Cultivate brand in 2017. Since then 20 credit unions throughout Ireland have introduced the Agri loan product to members. Since its introduction, Cultivate has proved very popular with farmers with nearly €20m in loans issued to farmers. The Cultivate farm loans are for a wide variety of purposes, everything from working capital, cash flow, farm development, livestock purchase, farm machinery purchase, rural enterprise funding, and start up farm finance. Speaking at the official launch Wednesday Martin Stapleton, IFA National Chairman - Farm Business, stated “ We are delighted to be associated with Credit Unions and Cultivate and welcome competition to the farm finance market, allowing our members to benefit from accessible and competitive credit” The Cultivate farm loan package will offer loans up to €50,000 for a variety of

purposes. The loan rate is a competitive loan rate. The term of the loan can be up to 7 years. Loan protection insurance is also provided on the loan at no additional charge. Pa Laide CEO of Cara Credit Union added “We hope that farmers will look to their local credit unions as an alternative for farm finance. After all, credit unions are embedded

in their local communities and are in a position to lend to those living or working locally”. Information on Cultivate farm loans can be got from any of the participating Credit Unions or on www.cultivate-cu.ie Pic: Maurice O’ Donoghue, Helen Geary, Pa Laide, Emer O’ Connor and Stephen Corner from Cara Credit Union

Roll Up Your Sleeves For The County Clean Up’ The days are counting down to one of Kerry’s biggest annual mobilisations of community groups, Tidy Towns committees, voluntary and sporting organisations, and individual residents and families across the county. The eighth County Clean Up will take place on Saturday, 13 April and the Cathaoirleach of Kerry County Council, Cllr Norma Foley is leading calls for as many people as possible to get involved.

Last year, an estimated 5,500 volunteers took to the county’s roadsides, towns and villages to collect litter and clean up the county with the support of Kerry County Council and KWD Recycling. Local organisations including Kerry GAA, Kerry IFA, and Kerry ICMSA are joining in the effort again this year and have called on their members to join the clean-up and anti-litter initiative on the day. KWD Recycling will again 16

provide clean-up packs to groups which register at www.countycleanup.com and collection points will be designated around the county to ensure that all litter gathered is disposed of.

The Cathaoirleach of Kerry County Council, Cllr Norma Foley said: ‘We are aiming to having the biggest ever number of participants this year and whether you are part of a community group, a Tidy Towns committee, a sports club or a school group, or if you’re just a civic-minded citizen, you can roll up your sleeves and get involved.’ ‘The growing success of the County Clean Up since it was established in 2012, is evident in the huge voluntary effort all over Kerry in previous years and the volume of litter retrieved over the years is indicative of the larger numbers taking part. So let’s again get the county looking spick and span and appreciate Friday 5th April 2019

the clean and healthy environment which we should never take for granted,’ said Cllr Foley. A record 5,500 volunteers took part in the Kerry County Clean Up in April 2018 which saw 8,000 bags of litter collected, the highest ever tally in the seven years in which the environmental and community

initiative has existed. Caption: Pictured at the launch in Tralee are from left: Joan O’ Regan, Team Bramble, Cllr. Norma Foley, Cathaoirleach, Kerry County Council, Joe Moynihan, Tidy Tralee Together and Cllr. Sam Locke, Chairman, Tralee Tidy Towns. Pic: Pauline Dennigan

KNOW YOUR RIGHTS: LANGUAGE EXEMPTION 2019 Question My son is exempted from studying Irish. Can he still go on to study at third level? Answer Students must have the academic entry requirements (also called matriculation requirements) for the third level course they want to take. You can get detailed information on these requirements directly from the universities, technological universities, institutes of technology and colleges of education. If a certain mark in the Irish Leaving Certificate exam is a matriculation requirement, students who had an exemption from the study of Irish may also be exempted from this requirement. Exemptions from Irish matriculation requirements may be granted, for example, to a student who was born outside Ireland, was educated wholly or partly outside Ireland or who has a specific learning disability. This is a matter for each individual college. All students applying for a third-level course through the Central Applications Office (CAO) should send a copy of their exemption certificate with their CAO application form. The college may also ask the student to complete a separate exemption application form and to submit supporting documentation. You should check with the individual college for details on how to apply for an exemption. TRALEE CITIZENS INFORMATION CENTRE Opening Hours: Monday - Friday 10am - 4pm

WHAT’S HAPPENING IN TRALEE... Did You Know That 27 People Die Of Heart Attack In Ireland Every Day? Heartfelt Cardio Screening is coming to your area soon, with the revolutionary BPro pulse wave analysis device, providing affordable and accurate heart and artery screenings. The BPro device is a completely mobile test kit, comprising a wrist sensor and a laptop. It can be brought to any location, including your workplace or organisation which makes it ideal for sports clubs, health centres etc. Screenings are carried out by a Healthstats certified technician and a full printout of the results are given on the day. The procedure is non-invasive and completely pain-free. The information provided by our BPro screenings can help doctors decide whether more invasive investigations are required thereby saving patients further unnecessary trauma. Our BPro heart screening is a major advance in science for monitoring the cardiovascular health of people without the need for invasive and traumatic procedures. The BPro and A-Pulse Casp was developed by Healthstats in Singapore and can calculate a person’s Central Aortic Systolic Pressure (CASP) (blood pressure closest to the heart) accurately and non-invasively. The A-Pulse has

20

been validated in clinical trials to have an accuracy of 99.17%, as compared to the angiogram. The BPro Cardio Pulse-Wave screening measures the aortic pressure as well as the flexibility of your arteries. BPro Technology has been validated by the Association of Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) and the European Society of Hypertension as well as the National Heart Centre of Singapore. It is FDA (Food & Drug Administration) certified, CE (Confirmité Européene) approved and also approved by the British Hypertension Society. The cost of an individual BPro test is €50 per adult with a 10% discount (€90) for a couple. There is also a 20% discount for groups of 12 or more people e.g. Sports Clubs, Business Screening etc. Heartfelt Cardio Screening will bring the BPro to the following venues during the next few months. Beauty

HELLO BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE! I HOPE YOU’RE HAVING AN AMAZING WEEK! This week I’m talking all things makeup tools!

When I started doing my own makeup I literally used my fingers to apply foundation and eyeshadow for a good while, I couldn’t even imagine doing that now. Insane. When it comes to a perfect makeup application you need three things, 1) a good base 2) good tools 3) good products. Today I’m going to talk all about my favourite makeup tools and brands that I recommend. The brushes/tools that I mention are my 100% ride or die ones, ones that I ALWAYS use and completely recommend.

THE BEAUTY BLENDER If you haven’t applied your makeup with a beauty blender, you are seriously missing out. SERIOUSLY. And I’m not talking about the brands that made dupes of the beauty blender, I’m talking about The Original Beauty Blender! It gives your makeup an amazing flawless finish, it can be used for foundation, concealer, cream contour, or even to blend powder bronzer. Makeup By Mario also used Beauty blenders throughout his entire Masterclass, he swears by them! All you have to do is squeeze it in water to dampen it and then bounce it on your face to apply whichever product. You can get it on BeautyBay for €20 with free delivery.

BLANK CANVAS F08 Again, it is used to apply foundation to the face, it is very dense which means it gives great coverage and also doesn’t store lots of product. So if you’re a bit apprehensive about the beauty blender and are looking for an amazing foundation brush, this is for you! I actually have like 7 of them, some for my own personal use and one for my makeup kit for clients.

BLANK CANVAS E20 BLENDING BRUSH I’m an OG Blank Canvas Cosmetics fan, I have been talking about and using their products since the beginning. Literally. I absolutely love this brush for blending, it’s insaaaaaaane.

ANASTASIA BEVERLY HILLS DUO SIDED BROW BRUSH You all know that ABH is my brow brand, I use nothing else on them. The spoolie/ brush side is used to comb through the brows and the angled side is the perfect size to apply product with precision. You can get one on BeautyBay for €17.40.

ECOTOOLS ANGLED FACE BRUSH I use this, and only this, for my bronzer absolutely errrrryday, or every time I wear makeup at least. I don’t have many EcoTools brushes, but I must get more because they are such great quality. Like I’ve had that bronzer brush at least 2 years now and it’s still perfect. EcoTools is also Vegan friendly, which is awesome.

So those are my absolute favourite brushes/tools. I have multiples of all of them and simply couldn’t do my makeup without them. As for brands, if you go for EcoTools, Blank Canvas Cosmetics, Morphe or Real Techniques you’ll be safe. You don’t have to get the most expensive brushes out there for them to be good, all of the brands and brushes I mentioned are mostly under €20. Also, it is VERY VERY VERY important to take care of your brushes and clean them REGULARLY!!!! Especially foundation brushes, you wouldn’t even believe the bacteria they collect. To clean them just use luke warm(not hot) water and any form of shampoo, baby shampoo is good, I recommend a scented version so your brushes smell fab. If you use hot water it will melt the glue on your brush and the hairs will fall out.

BEXBLAH

FITNESS!

HEY EVERYONE!

This week I’m talking about how to go back into fitness after you hit a wall or feel demotivated for whatever reason. Sometimes there are unnecessary bumps in the road but sure isn’t that life! So this week I’ve put together a little list on how to get back on track after the bump… WATER WATER WATER: You can never have enough of this stuff, aim for as much as you can per day! 2litres plus.

SLOW & STEADY: If it’s your first time back at exercise after a while and you go hell for leather and kill yourself you could easily over extend and get hurt. When getting back into fitness it’s good to push yourself, but know your limits. You’re not gonna be able to run a marathon your first day back. Take it easy, get help from a professional like Ronan in Hercules gym!

EAT RIGHT: I can’t say it enough, you cannot, and I repeat CANNOT out exercise a bad diet! If you eat whatever you want all the time when trying to lose weight or get back on track then you won’t see results. DON’T BEAT YOURSELF UP: Yes, you for whatever reason have been lacking motivation/ unable to exercise/ whatever you’re excuse may be. But you’ve taken a step in the right direction by trying to get back into fitness and a healthy lifestyle. Of course it’s not going to be easy. If it was sure wouldn’t we all be walking around with bodies of gods! Just get the right motivation, be it a fitness class/ personal trainer/ new gym membership, whatever! Set goals and smash them! Stay fit guys, don’t quit!

LAUGHTER ....THE BEST MEDICINE ! A MILLIONAIRE WANTS HIS DAUGHTER TO MARRY...

So he decideds to host a competition for a small town nearby. “To any man who can swim across this Piranha infested pool of water unharmed, may have my daughter’s hand in marriage.” 20 men line up next to the pool and stand there to scared to move. Suddenly a man jumps into the water and is swimming with all his might. Finally he comes out of the water on the other side unharmed. “That was incredible,” said the millionaire,”I am a man of my word, so you may marry my daughter.” The man turns to him and says,”Look I don’t give a damn about your daughter, I just want to know the name of the bugger who pushed me in.”

I TOLD MY FRIEND THAT “LAST NIGHT THERE WAS A REAR-END COLLISION IN MY CAR PARK . After that, the drunk guy that hit the car gave me 800 euro and drove away”. My friend asked me “Is that enough to fix it?” I said “I don’t care, it wasn’t my car.”-

YOU ARE ON A HORSE GALLOPING AT A CONSTANT SPEED.

On your right side, is a sharp drop off and on your left side is an elephant traveling at the same speed as you. Directly in front of you is another galloping horse, but your horse is unable to overtake it... Behind you is a lion running at the same speed as you and the horse in front of you. What must you do to safely get out of this highly dangerous situation? Get your drunk behind off the merry-go-round.!

LAWYERS SHOULD NEVER ASK A GEORGIA GRANDMA A QUESTION IF THEY AREN’T PREPARED FOR THE ANSWER...

In a trial, a Southern small-town prosecuting attorney called his first witness, a grandmotherly, elderly woman to the stand. He approached her and asked, ‘Mrs. Jones, do you know me?’ She responded, ‘Why, yes, I do know you, Mr. Williams. I’ve known you since you were a boy, and frankly, you’ve been a big disappointment to me. You lie, you cheat on your wife, and you manipulate people and talk about them behind their backs. You think you’re a big shot when you haven’t the brains to realize you’ll never amount to anything more than a two-bit paper pusher. Yes, I know you.’ The lawyer was stunned. Not knowing what else to do, he pointed across the room and asked, ‘Mrs. Jones, do you know the defense attorney?’ She again replied, ‘Why yes, I do. I’ve known Mr. Bradley since he was a youngster, too. He’s lazy, bigoted, and he has a drinking problem. He can’t build a normal relationship with anyone, and his law practice is one of the worst in the entire state. Not to mention he cheated on his wife with three different women. One of them was your wife. Yes, I know him.’ The defense attorney nearly died. The judge asked both counselors to approach the bench and, in a very quiet voice, said, ‘If either of you idiots asks her if she knows me, I’ll send you both to the electric chair.

TORQUING CARS! CAR ADVICE WITH HONEST JOHN – YOUR QUESTIONS ANSWERED WHAT’S THE BEST USED HYBRID FOR UNDER €10K?

HJ says You’ll probably be after a Toyota of some description - it depends how much space you need. The Yaris hybrid will be the cheapest to run (and €10,000 gets you a good secondhand one), although doesn’t have the practicality of the Prius or Auris Hybrid. All ought to prove to be very reliable cars - there’s a reason taxi drivers love a Prius.

THE AUTOMATIC GEARBOX IN OUR NISSAN JUKE HAS FAILED AFTER JUST 17,000 MILES - IS THIS A COMMON PROBLEM? I have an automatic Nissan Juke with a full Nissan service history which has covered 17000 miles. It’s three months outside warranty and now has a gearbox problem. Nissan tell me it needs a new gearbox. Surely a gearbox should last longer than 17000 miles? HJ says This is an extremely common failure - we have 32 CVT failures recorded for the Juke. Use the data here to complain to the supplying dealer and to support your case. www.honestjohn.co.uk/carbycar/nissan/juke-2010/goo.../

ARE THERE DASH CAMS AVAILABLE THAT DON’T NEED WIRES TO CONNECT THEM TO THE CAR? T.S H.J.says We haven’t tried any that are battery-powered. They’ve all needed connecting to the car - but you can get some models hardwired at Halfords so they don’t need to be plugged in and wires won’t be clearly visible. Some dash cams can run for 30 mins - 1 hour on battery power but dash cams aren’t really designed to run off battery power, and those that say they do don’t really have big enough batteries to be any use. Imagine recording a video on your phone for an entire commute, it would be completely dead by the end of your drive.

SHOULD I SWITCH FROM PETROL TO DIESEL? I’m looking now to purchase a new SUV and wanted your opinion as to whether it should be a diesel or petrol version? I’ve always been of the opinion that as the vehicle is only likely to cover around 70008000 miles a year and be used mostly around town and occasionally on motorway journeys then it should be petrol. However, friends have stated to get a diesel regardless because of the better torque and CO2 emissions. ...Bob H.J.says For relatively low miles and predominantly town use, a petrol is a much better option. The exception would be if you’re planning on towing - the torque of a diesel helps then, but generally a petrol is much better suited to urban environments and modern turbocharged units have more than enough power.

TALKING SPORT WITH THE TRALEE ADVERTISER EVERYTHING’S COMING UP ROSES!

with “The Voice” Pat Harnett

FAI NATIONAl P.R.O. OF THE YEAR ALL READY TO RALLY The hard working Kerry Motor Club Rose Hotel Circuit of Kerry Rally committee are putting the final touches to Sunday big event. Among those who have been working flat out to make this event, a counting round of the Top Part Rally Championship and the Moriarty’s Centra Kingdom Of Kerry Kerry Rally Championship, are COC Eoin Duffin, Deputy COC Sean Hegarty, Assistant COC Jonathon O’Shea, Club Safety Officer Senan Raggett with Club Marshal Liason Ollie Lynch/ Jason Brick as well as a large number of other event staff and volunteer who will be working hard on the day. The rally in its 43rd year is the Kerry Motor Clubs flagship event and has once again attracted an international field with a big number coming from England and beyond. Over 100 cars are expected to tackle the 3 loops of three stages in the Cordal, Brosna and Castleisland areas including the famous Mount Eagle stage. The first cars are due to leave Pairc Ferme at the Rose Hotel around 9am. Service between the loops will also be at the Rose with the winners due on the victory ramp just at 4pm. Milk to replace Champagne: The rally crowd have not gone teetotal but for the winner there will be a unique taste of success when they will be presented with a cold pint of milk instead of the normal champagne. This is being done because of the new sponsorship deal signed with locally successful business Ballymac Dairies. Of course the Circuit of Kerry will not be the only motoring event where the winner will drink milk as it joints the prestigious Indy 500 in the US where this has been the tradition since 1956. Kerry Motor Club Chairman PJ O’ Dowd said that the rally, which is a supporter of Motorsport Ireland’s Keep the Race in its Place, is delighted with the way the event is shaping up. “We like to bring new ideas to our events while at the same time show casing local businesses. We are very grateful to all our sponsors and rally magazine advertisers without their support this event could not happen”. Weekend starts on Friday night: The Circuit of Kerry weekend starts on Friday night when the KMC host

a reception for international drivers at the Rose Hotel. This year’s field continues the tradition of being a big draw to oversees crews who have been coming since 1979 when Welsh driver John Price finished 3rd in his Porsche with the rally based in Ballybunion. Saturday afternoon’s for the fans: The big weekend of rallying will continue on Saturday afternoon in the square where the public can meet some of the rally drivers who will be taking part on Sunday and get up close to the cars. This event is being showcased by the Tralee Chamber Alliance and should create a great atmosphere in the town centre from 12.30 to 5pm with shops including Hugh Culloty, Minx Boutique and Der O’Sullivan’s all getting involved and DJ Ray Stack will provide the music. AT THE TRACK: This Friday night at the Kingdom Greyhound Stadium there is a top class card which will feature the final of the Kingdom Stadium Novice 525 yards, the semi-final of the John and Mary Killeacle Dowling Memorial plus the semi-finals of the Moyvane Community Sports Hall A2 confined 525 yards and the semi-finals of the Kasko A7 confined 525 yards stake. On Saturday night there are the semi-finals of the Ballymac Kennels coursing bred 325 yards stake. On Sunday it’s the SIS 8 race meeting off from 6.35pm. The track is currently taking entries for the Lee Strand A3 confined 550 yards starting on Friday April 18th and the KGOBA sponsored Novice 750 yards race on Saturday April 7th with entries to the Racing Office on 061 448057. KERRY BOXERS IN MUNSTER ACTION: The Munster Boys 1 to 6 Munster Championships are being held in Dungarvan Co Waterford over these two weekends. Last Saturday Tralee Boxing Club made the long journey and came home with two Munster titles. Nine boxers and two coaches travelled and all did the club proud. Everyone was delighted to see Willie Faulkner winning the Boy 1 44.5kg title and Ainle Foley the Boy Friday 5th April 2019

2 48kg crown. This weekend the club will be represented by John Murray in the Boy 1 40kg in his final. The club will now begin preparing for All Ireland glory with the National coming up in a few weeks in the Stadium in Dublin. Ballyduff also had a number of fighters in action who all put in good performances. The highlight was the Shay Murphy’s win in the Boy 1 52kg category. Jordan Goggin has qualified for next weekend’s Youth 1 semi-final while Barry O’Connor, Charlie Fitzgerald, Conor Murphy, Cian O’Sullivan and Jack Gallway will also be in action. The Girls Munster Championships will take place the weekend after next in Castleisland hosted by the Sliabh Luachra Boxing Club. DOUBLE SUCCESS IN THE LEAGUE OF IRELAND: There was a great win for the Kerry 15’s as they saw off Cork City in Mounthawk Park 1-0 Cork are always one of the strongest sides in the League but Kerry deserved this win following an excellent team performance. This follows on from Kerry 0-0 away draw last season. The Kerry 17’s continue to impress and they were also victorious defeating Galway United 3-0 at home. The 13’s and 19’s did lose out to Cork and Galway respectively but don’t have long to dwell on this as they are back in action this weekend. All four Kerry sides take on their Limerick counterparts with the 13’s at home at 2pm on Saturday and the 19’s playing at 2pm on Sunday. PARK NAMES THEIR PLAYERS OF THE YEAR AHEAD OF HUGE NATIONAL CUP GAME: These are good times at St Brendan’s Park as they gear up for one of the biggest schoolboy games in the county for a while. The Park will welcome Stella Maris from Dublin to Christy Leahy Park in the semi-final of the Skechers SFAI 15’s National Cup. The Park’s run to the Last 4 has been very impressive especially considering that 8 of the squad moved to the Kerry LoI set-up. For the quarter final they called up some of their u14’s and took a great win over Kells/Blackwater. Hopefully they can go one step further and reach the 15’s National Cup decider. The Park also named their Players of the Year recently at an Awards night that was held at the Kingdom Greyhound Stadium. The Players of the Week are: U11: Ethan Ballard: Cody mc Mahon: Jack Kelly: Jamie Tarrant: Gabriel Nosidlak, U12: Ryan o Driscoll: Max Nosidlak: Will Leahy: Mark o Brien. U13. Andrew Kerins: Finn o Neill: William Jakovi: JJ Olajitan. U14. Odhran Ferris: Togor Silong: Sean Moynihan: Rodrigo Pinho. U15. Kieran o Connor: Ben Hanafin.

U16. Earnan Ferris: Jamie Fitzgerald: Hugh Emerson: Mark Brick. U17. Robert Kerins: Liam Magee. Youths: Colin Walsh : Andrew Murphy. Seniors: Leon Mc Evoy: Graham o Neill. Girls u16: Ellie Sugrue: Jasmine Ryle: Jessica Murphy: Lauren Dowling. WARRIOR’S SEASON ENDS WITH THE BIG ONE IN THE TROPHY CABINET: Garvey’s Tralee Warriors season came to an end with a 65-81 loss to Belfast Star in the semi-final of the Men’s Champions Trophy. The Tralee side had won this trophy for the last two years and while they will be disappointed that they are out of the race to make it a hattrick they finish the season with a much bigger trophy in the cabinet – the SuperLeague title. Coach Pat Price and his side can now enjoy the celebrations for a few weeks before they start planning for the new season. It will be interesting to see who the League champions will recruit. Interestingly the side that the Warriors beat in those epic two games last weekend UCD Marian were also defeated going down to Star the day before 43-84. Templeogue have reached their third final in a row and will be delighted that they won’t have to face the Warriors in another decider. ST BRENDAN’S U14’S BID FOR ALL IRELAND GLORY; Excitement is building in the St. Brendan’s club this week as the U14A team prepare for the AllIreland Division 1 tournament in Gormanston, Co. Meath. It has been a fantastic season for the team, having lost only one game to Rathmore, in a very competitive Div.1 league clinching the title with wins over Bobcats, Rathmore, Castleisland, Duagh and Killorglin. They then saw off Castleisland to win a thrilling Cup final. Coach Tony Griffin has left no stone unturned in his preparations and says he is delighted the way things are going in training with all players improving their individual skills and developing into great team players. They will face stiff competition in Gormanston, as they are drawn in a pool with the Galway, Cork and North Midlands champions. The team wishes to acknowledge their sponsors Lee Strand, who recently presented them with a new set of gear. The squad is: Kieran Arrellano, Conor Cronin, Olaf Michalchuk, Rory Clifford, Aaron Nolan, Brian O’ Donnell, Shane Kelly, Shane Cotter, David Scally, Sean Naughton, Adam O’ Carroll and Steven Barrett. St Mary’s Castleisland Boys u14’s will also be in action this weekend. The action in the AICC championships continues with the u16 boys and girls in the coming weeks.

TALKING SPORT WITH THE TRALEE ADVERTISER ANY MORE UNDERDOGS IN TRALEE: TG4’s legendary GAA series’ The Underdogs’ is back and will again be looking for players to make a name for themselves and go on to have a huge career in the game. They will be hoping that they can unearth another Kieran Donaghy or Cork’s Pearse O’Neill. It is not yet known if Paul Galvin will again be one of the selectors of the team who will go on to face one of the best senior teams in the country. Last year the Underdogs went down to Dublin. So who can apply? Male players who have never played Gaelic football at a senior inter county GAA championship level. Applicants must be over the age of 18 by May 1st 2019 to be eligible and players must currently be registered with a GAA club. TG4 and Adare Productions are now inviting applications for the new series of Underdogs. Players can apply online at www.tg4.ie/ underdogs and nationwide trials will take place in April 2019. PARNELL’S NEWS: The club is still taking bookings on-line for its Easter Camp that will run from Monday the 15th to Thursday 18th of April from 10am to 1pm costing only e35 per child. Due to the larger number of teams taking to the filed for the club in 2019, Friday training times in Caherslee will be staggered, generally with younger teams 6:30 to 7:30 and older age groups from 7:30.Keep an eye on individual team group messaging for further details. The Parnell’s begin their Intermediate journey with a fixture away to Lixnaw this Friday, April 5th. This is a big step for the club but an exciting one. The Feile sub-committee are working away with preparations for the big GAA Festival. One event being planned is a sponsored walk up Mount Brandon in May. Tralee Parnell’s will enter an adult team in the 11-a-side Spring League with fixtures on Mondays – the 8th in Caherslee, the 15th in Kilmoyley, the 29th in Causeway and on May the 6th in a neutral venue with the throw in each week at 8pm. AUSTIN STACKS JUVENILE NEWS: The u6/u8’s and u10’s will take their rearranged trip to the Legion GAA club in Killarney this Saturday morning with the players meeting at 9.30am in Connolly Park. The players will have Sunday off.

The u12’s will have 3 teams in the Lee Strand County League with the action kicking off in the next week. The u14’s Suits Select Town League Division 1 final has been postponed indefinitely. Anyone interested in the GAA Tralee Town Board scholarships are asked to contact the club as soon as possible as numbers are limited. The club’s Kellogg’s GAA Cul Camps will take place in Connolly Park from July 1st to the 5th. There is an unfortunate clash with the Scor na bPaisti quiz which takes place in Glenbeigh/Glencar on April 6th and the Gaelscoil All Ireland final so the team has to redraw from the Scor event. ST PAT’S NEWS: There was no winner of the Lotto from the numbers drawn 5,16,18 and 24 with the draw this weekend being for e5,300. It will take place on Sunday night April 7th in Keane’s Bar. Please check with your club as to where to collect the Green Bags and what areas they will be covering. KERINS O’RAHILLYS NEWS: The Seniors has a challenge game against the Kerry u20’s which was a good run-out for both sides. The u20’s won the game, backboned by many of last season’s Minor All Ireland winners and will be in Championship action in the coming months. The Seniors have a tough Club Championship opener against Rathmore in the Fitzgerald Stadium this Sunday at 1.30pm. The East Kerry side will be high in confidence after beating Dr Crokes in the League last week. The u12’s, u14’sand u16’s County Leagues are now underway. There was another great turn-out for the Academy last weekend. The Players of the Week were Chloe Carroll at u6 girls with Akselsl Rodenbiker from the u6 Boys. The u8 Boys joint players of the week were Cayden O’Sullivan and Conor Ryan with the best players of the u8 and u10 girls being Aoibhinn Corridan and Emma Onyekere. There’s a 5-goal rule in operation for U12s so our sixth goal was converted to a point. The u14’s had a narrow 1-07 to 0-08 win over Glenflesk in the noncounty u14 Kerry players County League. This week they are away to Glenflesk in the County League where county players can play. Katie Nix played with the Kerry Friday 5th April 2019

u14’s last Saturday. The u16’s played their first game in the 2019 County League against a Dingle/Annascaul combination at Pat Healy Park. The Tralee girls had a comfortable win coming off some hard work on the training ground. All 20 girls on the panel contributed to the win and they were in action again in mid-week playing Fossa while training takes place every Tuesday. Training for the u16’s continues every Tuesday and Thursday. The club is always looking for new players and anyone interested should contact Shirley on 086 COMMUNITY GAMES – GYMNASTICS: The Community Games is in full swing and in the Gymnastics, hosted by the Aerials Gymnastics Club and assisted by the Tralee Gymnastics, took place in Currow.
