When you think of the Imperial Hotel, you think of a family run Hotel right in the heart of Denny Street ... its been that way for decades. So we dont really want to change that much... Yes, we have given parts of the Hotel a makeover , its what a busy bustling Hotel in the heart of a large town has to do ! We have a little more to do but are delighted to launch our new All Day Bar Food Menu and will soon have our best value Afternoon Tea Experience available to compliment it . Medical Matters DIABETES BY NURSE CATHERINE DOYLE Diabetes is a condition where the amount of sugar (glucose) in the blood is too high. This happens when the body is unable to cope with glucose properly due to either insufficient production of insulin or a complete lack of insulin. Insulin is a hormone produced in the pancreas. Type 1 diabetes develops when the body completely stops producing insulin. It is most common in children or young adults and is of sudden onset. These people will have to self-administer insulin injections daily. Type 1 diabetes is not preventable and is not related to lifestyle choices. Type 2 diabetes develops when the body is not producing enough insulin and is most common in adults and the elderly. Unhealthy lifestyle such as a high fat and high sugar diet, obesity and lack of exercise will all contribute to developing type 2 diabetes. There can be hereditary factors involved in type 2 diabetes, so if there is a strong family history of Type 2 diabetes, a healthy lifestyle and a low sugar diet is strongly recommended to try to prevent diabetes developing later in life.
Treating type 2 Diabetes involves a strict low sugar diet, a strenuous exercise programme, maintaining an ideal body weight and avoiding smoking. Some people with type 2 diabetes may require tablet treatment to control their blood sugars in addition to diet and exercise. Occasionally, people with type 2 diabetes may end up on insulin by daily or weekly injections if tablets alone do not keep their blood sugars reduced to a normal level. All patients with diabetes should visit their GP or practice nurse once every 6 months to prevent complications of diabetes which include heart disease, kidney failure, poor circulation to the feet that can lead to amputation and eye problems. This check up includes weight, blood pressure, fasting bloods and a urine checks. Retinal screening to check for diabetic damage to the eyes that can lead to blindness will be arranged yearly as well as a foot checks and visits to the dietician. Everyone with diabetes should have a yearly flu vaccine.

KNOW YOUR RIGHTS: REBUILDING IRELAND HOME LOAN Question My partner and I have been unable to get a mortgage to buy our own home. Will we be eligible for the new Rebuilding Ireland Home Loan? Answer The new Rebuilding Ireland Home Loan provides mortgages to first-time buyers at reduced interest rates (2%–2.3%) to buy new or second-hand properties or to build a home. You can choose to fix the rates for the full term of the mortgage, so you have the same repayments for the whole time you are repaying the loan. To qualify for a loan under the scheme: • You must be a first-time buyer aged between 18 and 70 years of age • •Your income cannot be more than €50,000 (€75,000 for joint applicants) • You must have a deposit of at least 10% of the purchase price of the property • You must have evidence of two insufficient offers or refusals for a mortgage loan by two banks or building societies • You must have a satisfactory credit rating • The main applicant must have been in continuous employment (or self-employed) for at least two years The property must not be over 175 square metres. If you are buying in Cork, Dublin, Galway, Kildare, Louth, Meath or Wicklow, the maximum market value of the property cannot be more than €320,000; in all other parts of the country, the value cannot exceed €250,000. You also need to show that you can afford the monthly repayments, which must be less than one-third of your monthly household income. You can use the Home Loan Calculator on rebuildingirelandhomeloan.ie to work out how much you can borrow. The Rebuilding Ireland Home Loan is available nationwide from local authorities. You must make an appointment with your local authority to submit your application form and supporting documents in person. WHAT’S HAPPENING IN TRALEE... The Green Cbs Petition For The Homeless This friday (tonight ) , around 20 students from the Green CBS will sleep outside from about 9pm to 7am on Saturday morning as part of their awareness campaign and petition for the plight of the Homeless in Kerry and Ireland. This event coincides with Focus Points “Ireland’s Great Get Together “. According to Geraldine Dwyer , Teacher in the Green , “The boys devised the petition with the help of Ronan Doherty Director of Novas in Tralee , it states that they believe everyone has a right to a home and they would like to get the right to housing recognized in our constitution . Around the world this right is included in 81 Constitutions .
“We hope to have a representative from Kerry County Council to accept our signed petition . While fund raising did play a part in the students campaign their main aim was to raise awareness of the deepening crisis of Homelessness in Ireland and be a voice for those who experience it . We discovered that in Kerry in 2017 there were over 42 families in Emergency Accommodation. Fr. Peter Mc Verry told us at his talk that 0 to 4 years are biggest category of homeless in Ireland at the moment , the boys found this shocking. In their research and participation they discovered that homelessness is not just those you pass on the

Who doesn’t love a good roast! It feeds the family and always puts a great aroma around the house. Here is one of my favourite ways to do a splendid rib roast
STANDING RIB ROAST OF BEEF INGREDIENTS • • • • • • •
1/3 cup Dijon mustard 2 tablespoons minced garlic 1 tablespoon chopped thyme leaves 2 teaspoons coarsely ground pepper Sea salt 3 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil One 5-rib 12- to 13-pound prime rib roast, chine bone removed
METHOD Step 1 Preheat the oven to 180°. In a small bowl, mix the mustard with the garlic, thyme, pepper and 2 teaspoons of sea salt. Whisk in the olive oil. Step 2 Set the meat, bone side down, in a roasting pan and season it lightly with salt. Roast the meat in the lower third of the oven for 20 minutes. Step 3 Remove the meat from the oven and reduce the temperature to 160°. Brush the mustard coating all over the top and sides of the meat and roast for about 1 1/2 hours longer, rotating the roasting pan 2 or 3 times for even browning. The meat is done when an instant-read thermometer inserted in the center of the roast at the thickest part registers 64° (for medium rare). Transfer the roast to a carving board, cover it loosely with foil and let rest for 20 to 30 minutes. Step 4 Set the roast on its side and run a long, sharp knife between the bones and meat; remove the bones and set them aside. Turn the roast right side up. Carve the roast 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick and transfer the slices to warmed plates. Pour any carving juices over the meat and serve at once. For bone-gnawing carnivores, cut down between the rib bones and pass them on a plate. Recipes by

Suffering from
COPD, Asthma, Sinusitis or Hay Fever? . . . Those who suffer from Hay Fever (Rhinitis ), Allergies, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), Bronchitis, Cystic Fibrosis, Snoring and Sleep Apnoea can benefit from using a drug free product called Salin® Plus Air Purifier. Those who have used the Salin® Plus also found that the natural salt they are inhaling while sleeping is resulting in a reduction in respiratory infections. They find it easier to breathe through the night, enjoy a much better quality night’s sleep and overall improved wellbeing.
What is the Salin® Plus Air Purifier? The Salin® Plus Air Purifier is a small device about the size of a kettle that you plug it in each night and leave it on while you sleep. The following morning you wake up feeling refreshed.
How Salt Therapy works The benefits of Salt Therapy can be attributed to its antiinflammatory effects. Salin® Plus Air Purifier uses Microcrystalline salts that are fanned through the air to relieve breathing difficulties.
Once inhaled, the microparticles of salt penetrate deep into the lungs which can help unblock and remove any build-up of mucus and foreign allergens. The Staff in O'Donoghues Pharmacy Tralee have been recommending the Salin® Plus Air Purifier for some years now for respiratory issues. James O’Donoghue said “My own experience since starting to offer the Salin® Plus is that it works for people with all kinds of respiratory conditions and for all age groups. Used in conjunction with regular therapy it can help relieve the symptoms associated with respiratory illnesses / conditions. Our staff can discuss this natural treatment with our customers”.
Don’t suffer from Hay Fever & Allergies In spring and summer, those who suffer from Hay Fever may find that the Salin® Plus Air Purifier is the solution for them. It should be used as a preventative measure, for example, use it before you have a flare-up of Hay Fever and to keep allergies at bay. As by using the Salin® Plus Air Purifier in the bedroom each

every night you should change the filter approximately every 4 months.
For best results change the Salin® Plus Filter Regularly
Keep a note of the date you change the filter.
For best results it is recommended that you should change the filter of the Salin® Plus Air Purifier every 4-6 months. It depends on how much the machine is used, but if it is
A great complement to medication The team in O’Donoghues Pharmacy say that you should never go off your medication without speaking to your doctor. However they say that the Salin® Plus Air Purifier can be a great complement to medication.
How Salin® Plus Air Purifier has helped these users Mary O’Hara said, “I have been suffering with COPD and shortness of breath for the last few years and heard that the Salin® Plus Air Purifier could help me. Since using the device I don’t suffer from the shortness of breath as much and my overall health is much better. I would highly recommend Salin® Plus Air Purifier for those with COPD”. Mark O’Hara said, “I have been using the Salin® Plus Air Purifier for approximately three months and have noticed an improvement with my Chronic Sinus Issues. The machine is easy to use and is quiet enough not to interfere with my sleep”. Michael’s mum, Laura said: “Since winter 2013 Michael (pictured) had suffered with Tonsillitis, sinus infections, and chest infections. In January 2017, we were recommended to try the Salin® Plus Air Purifier for Michael. He is now a far healthier child and is sleeping better. I can 100% say that Salin® Plus Air Purifier has helped us and our little boy's life and I would recommend this product to other parents”. Kelly (pictured) said, “I heard about Salin® Plus Air Purifier from a family member. However, at first I was dubious as to how this product could resolve my Chronic Sinus Pain and re-occurring tonsillitis. After using Salin® Plus Air Purifier for a few weeks I felt no congestion or the usual heaviness that I have felt every day for the past 10 years. I would definitely recommend this natural salt therapy for anybody with Sinusitis or Tonsillitis”. Deborah (pictured) said, “I bought the Salin® Plus Air Purifier as my daughter suffered badly with breathing problems due to Chest Infections and Asthma. She was on a lot of medication. I have to say that since getting this machine she sleeps better, breathes better as do I and everyone else in the house. I would highly recommend the Salin® Plus Air Purifier for nasal or chest problems”.

Bexblah Beauty HELLO BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE! I HOPE YOU’RE HAVING AN AMAZING WEEK! This week I’m talking all things makeup tools!
When I started doing my own makeup I literally used my fingers to apply foundation and eyeshadow for a good while, I couldn’t even imagine doing that now. Insane. When it comes to a perfect makeup application you need three things, 1) a good base 2) good tools 3) good products. Today I’m going to talk all about my favourite makeup tools and brands that I recommend. The brushes/tools that I mention are my 100% ride or die ones, ones that I ALWAYS use and completely recommend.
THE BEAUTY BLENDER If you haven’t applied your makeup with a beauty blender, you are seriously missing out. SERIOUSLY. And I’m not talking about the brands that made dupes of the beauty blender, I’m talking about The Original Beauty Blender! It gives your makeup an amazing flawless finish, it can be used for foundation, concealer, cream contour, or even to blend powder bronzer. Makeup By Mario also used Beauty blenders throughout his entire Masterclass, he swears by them! All you have to do is squeeze it in water to dampen it and then bounce it on your face to apply whichever product. You can get it on BeautyBay for €20 with free delivery. ECOTOOLS ANGLED FACE BRUSH I use this, and only this, for my bronzer absolutely errrrryday, or every time I wear makeup at least. I don’t have many EcoTools brushes, but I must get more because they are such great quality. Like I’ve had that bronzer brush at least 2 years now and it’s still perfect. EcoTools is also Vegan friendly, which is awesome.
BLANK CANVAS F08 Again, it is used to apply foundation to the face, it is very dense which means it gives great coverage and also doesn’t store lots of product. So if you’re a bit apprehensive about the beauty blender and are looking for an amazing foundation brush, this is for you! I actually have like 7 of them, some for my own personal use and one for my makeup kit for clients.
BLANK CANVAS E20 BLENDING BRUSH I’m an OG Blank Canvas Cosmetics fan, I have been talking about and using their products since the beginning. Literally. I absolutely love this brush for blending, it’s insaaaaaaane.
ANASTASIA BEVERLY HILLS DUO SIDED BROW BRUSH You all know that ABH is my brow brand, I use nothing else on them. The spoolie/ brush side is used to comb through the brows and the angled side is the perfect size to apply product with precision. You can get one on BeautyBay for €17.40.
So those are my absolute favourite brushes/tools. I have multiples of all of them and simply couldn’t do my makeup without them. As for brands, if you go for EcoTools, Blank Canvas Cosmetics, Morphe or Real Techniques you’ll be safe. You don’t have to get the most expensive brushes out there for them to be good, all of the brands and brushes I mentioned are mostly under €20. Also, it is VERY VERY VERY important to take care of your brushes and clean them REGULARLY!!!! Especially foundation brushes, you wouldn’t even believe the bacteria they collect. To clean them just use luke warm(not hot) water and any form of shampoo, baby shampoo is good, I recommend a scented version so your brushes smell fab. If you use hot water it will melt the glue on your brush and the hairs will fall out.

ANSWERS TO YOUR NATURAL HEALTH QUESTIONS... Q: I don’t sleep well so I often wake up tired, can nutrition help? A: Nutrition can be a great way of enhancing sleep, alongside general relaxation and exercise. If you are highly stressed throughout the day, it is likely to interfere with your night’s sleep. Take a B complex supplement after breakfast and magnesium in the evening to help your body balance energy levels. Another important factor is your blood sugar levels. If you are craving sweet foods or stimulants such as tea or coffee you may have poor blood sugar control. The solution is to eat wholefoods and fruits that have a stabilising effect on your blood sugar levels and supplement with 200mcg of chrominium. Q: My nails keep cracking, is there anything I can do to stop this? A: Brittle, cracking nails are often a sign of nutrient deficiency. The body prioritises the distribution of nutrients, and while vital organs are first on the list, skin and nails are pretty much the last. You may be low in vitamin A, B vitamins, calcium or iron. Visit your GP and have your blood test done and take a good quality multivitamin which includes all the necessary nutrients you need. The brands VIRIDIAN or BIOCARE would be my suggestions for strength and quality. Another key factor is how well you are digesting and absorbing nutrients from your food, so Call Chris or Colette Tel: 066-7126399 or e-mail : traleeadvertiser@gmail.com
it would also be a good idea to take a digestive enzyme capsule before each meal for a few weeks to help with digestion. And don’t forget to protect your nails from external damage, such as hot water and harsh detergents. Q: I have been taking cod liver oil for years for my joints, but wonder if there is anything else I should consider as well? I tend to get more niggling aches and pains in my fingers and knees especially in this damp weather. A: Good old cod liver oil – rich in vitamin D which forms part of the bone matrix and essential fatty acids which help to maintain healthy joint mobility. There are some excellent bone formula supplements in store which could be a helpful addition to your supplementary regime. Some of these include: REVIVE JOINT COMPLEX, a combination of 10 active ingredients that support bones and connective tissue. LYPRINOL, GLUCOSAMINE and COLLAGEN are also worth considering. Call into any of our stores and we will be happy to advise you on your specific requirements.

EATING OUT IN TRALEE
Don goes back to being a Chef! Fashion Designer to the stars, Don O’Neill, will return to his culinary past for
one night only this July for what promises to be an unforgettable fundraising event in memory of his beloved mother, Mim O’Neill. The renowned designer, who trained as a chef before embarking on a stellar fashion career, has joined forces with cancer support charity Recovery Haven Kerry to host a spectacular dinner dance at Ballyroe Heights Hotel, Tralee on Friday, July 20th. The Ballyheigue designer, who lost his mother to cancer in 2012, will be joined by family, friends and loyal supporters to celebrate his beloved mother Mim on the eve of her sixth anniversary, where he will set a stunning fourcourse dinner menu of her favourite dishes Don and his husband Pascal and the Recovery Haven team have also lined up an amazing night of entertainment, with the couple enlisting their own wedding band – the incredible Bentley Boys Band – to perform on the night. A number of local businesses have also eagerly come on board to sponsor six remarkable spot prizes, which include a half day ‘For Ladies Only’ spa package for two at Nadur Spa at Ballygarry House Hotel, including a two course lunch in the Brasserie and a table d’hote dinner in Restaurant 58; An exquisite pamper package from Expose Beauty; A stunning gold Fuschia pendant from Brian de Staic Jewellers (Mim’s favourite flower) and a €200 holiday voucher courtesy of Noreen Lane Travel Counsellors. In addition, there will be two amazing hotel getaways up for grabs, including an overnight stay and full Irish breakfast for two at the five-star Dromoland Castle, and two- nights’ B&B for two people at Limerick’s four-star Absolute Hotel. And while fashion will be off Don’s menu that evening, it should certainly be a top priority for the lady attendees, as the best dressed lady – chosen by Orla Diffily- will win a dream prize of a THEIA evening gown of her choice, kindly donated by Don. The event will kick off with a champagne and cocktail reception at 6.30pm. Upon arrival guests will have the opportunity to be photographed with Don and Pascal on the red carpet . Speaking about the event, Don says his family and Pascal are thrilled to honour his mother’s memory for such a deserving charity. LAUGHTER ....THE BEST MEDICINE ! A HUSBAND WAKES UP AT HOME WITH A HUGE HANGOVER
A husband wakes up at home with a huge hangover. He forces himself to open his eyes, and the first thing he sees is a couple of aspirins and a glass of water on the side table. He sits down and sees his clothing in front of him, all clean and pressed. He looks around the room and sees that it is in perfect order, spotless, clean. So is the rest of the house. He takes the aspirins and notices a note on the table. “Honey, breakfast is on the table, I left early to go grocery shopping. Love You!” Totally shocked with the note , he goes to the kitchen and sure enough there is a hot breakfast and the morning newspaper. His son is also at the table, eating. He asks, “Son, what happened last night?” His son says, “Well, you came home around 3 AM, drunk and delirious. Broke some crockery, puked in the hall, and gave yourself a black eye when you stumbled into the door”. Confused, the man asks, “So, why is everything in order and so clean, and breakfast is on the table waiting for me? I should expect a big quarrel with her!” His son replies, “Oh, that! Mom dragged you to the bedroom, and when she tried to take your clothes n shoes off, you said, “LADY LEAVE ME ALONE! I’M MARRIED!”
SLOW LEARNER
A man goes to work one Monday morning and notices one of his coworkers has two big bandages on both of his ears. “What happened to your ears?” he asks. “Well, its a long story.” he replies, “You see, my wife and I are planning a trip with my sister in law, and we were expecting a phone call from her on Sunday. I was watching the football game and my wife was ironing some laundry behind me. The phone rang, so I reached back

to answer it, but when I put the phone to my ear I realized I had grabbed the iron by mistake!” “Well that explains one ear, but what happened to the other?” “Well, wouldn’t you know it, she called back.”
AN ARGUMENT IN A BAR
There are two men in a bar. One of them happens to be a paraplegic in a wheelchair. An argument begins between the two men and gets heated and one man punches the man in the wheelchair knocking him down. The man who was in the wheelchair looks up at the man who knocked him down and responds “You May have won this one but when we meet in heaven I’ll get you back” The other man replies “That won’t happen for 2 reasons. 1, I just hit a man in a wheelchair , in a bar so I’m not going to heaven. 2, there’s a stairway to heaven not a ramp.
MY WIFE JUST STOPPED AND SAID, “YOU WEREN’T EVEN LISTENING WERE YOU”... I thought, that’s a funny way to start a conversation
3 DUCKS GO INTO A BAR !
Say, what’s your name?” the bartender asked the first duck. “Huey,” was the reply. “How’s your day been, Huey?” “Great. Lovely day. Had a ball. Been in and out of puddles all day. What else could a duck want?” said Huey “Oh. That’s nice,” said the bartender. He turned to the second duck, “Hi, and what’s your name?” “Dewey,” came the answer from duck number two. “So how’s your day been, Dewey! ?” he asked. “Great. Lovely day. I’ve had a ball too. Been in and out of puddles all day myself. What else could a duck want?” The bartender turned to the third duck and said, “So, you must be Louie?” “No,” she said, batting her eyelashes. “My name is Puddles.”
I SAID TO MY WIFE, “I NEED TO CALL THE DOCTOR TODAY.” AND SHE REPLIED, “WHICH DOCTOR?” I said, “No, the regular kind.”

TORQUING CARS! TOLLS PLAN FOR ELECTRIC VEHICLES ‘IN WEEKS’
Details of a plan that would reduce or abolish tolls for electric vehicles will be revealed soon. Transport Minister Shane Ross previously announced he had managed to get funding to incentivise a “tolling regime for electric vehicles”. A department spokesman told Independent Motors that details of the scheme were being finalised and we could expect the system to be introduced “in the near future”. He said the minister would reveal more details over the coming weeks. It is part of a series of measures from the Low Emitting Vehicles Task Force, set up to speed the wider use of electric vehicles. Easing or abolishing the burden of tolls is regarded as one strategic means of getting people to shift to electric. Use of bus lanes is another. Meanwhile, the swing to hybrids continues unabated. Toyota Europe say 48pc of the cars they sold in the first quarter of 2018 were hybrid.
MOTORING SNIPPETS .....
Congratulations to Gillian Whittal (pictured) who has been appointed Opel Ireland general manager. The former head of marketing and PR at the company has just taken up her new position. As general manager, she is one of only a few women to hold such a senior managerial position in the Irish motoring industry.Ms Whittal will report directly to Stephen Norman, group managing director of Vauxhall Motors and Opel Ireland, who is based at Vauxhall head office in Griffin House, Luton. G illian joined Opel Ireland in 2008 as head of marketing & PR. She had previously worked with AIB, GlaxoSmithKline, Johnson & Johnson and Danone. She says she is delighted to take on the role of managing Opel in Ireland with the brand “embarking on a new era”. We wish her the best in her new role.* Tesla have just opened a new Supercharger in Ireland at Applegreen Castlebellingham off the busy M1. There are 16 Supercharger bays (eight each on north and southbound sites). In the 10 minutes it takes to get a coffee or snack, your Tesla will be boosted by half a full charge, they say. * So VW in Germany is promising to buy back diesel cars sold this year if they are banned by local councils within the next three years. The catch is you have to buy a car that isn’t banned. A lot of hot air I think. The Volkswagen Group here says: “We are not aware of any proposal to ban diesel vehicles in Ireland in the foreseeable future, merely speculation that there might be such a ban from 2030. “Accordingly, there is no correlation between this measure in Germany and the Irish market.”
BUYERS SNUBBING DIESEL AS THEY SWITCH TO PETROL AND HYBRID, NEW FIGURES SHOW THE FALL-OFF IN DEMAND FOR NEW DIESEL CARS IS GRAPHICALLY OUTLINED IN THE LATEST OFFICIAL FIGURES.
They show a 20pc plunge in diesel registrations so far this year. The Society of Irish Motor Industry (SIMI) statistics reveal how diesel registrations have fallen from 50,714 for the first quarter of 2017 to 40,433 for the corresponding period this year. At the same time, the volume of new petrol-car registrations has shot up by around 20pc to 26,941. New hybrid sales are also soaring with 3,895 registrations representing growth of 64.9pc and a sign that people are switching from diesel to hybrid as part of the move towards electrification.Toyota is the biggest seller of hybrids on the Irish market. Its hybrid mix for all passenger cars is now 50pc in the year to date. It climbed to 58pc for the month of March. Overall new-car registrations are down 5.5pc - to 71,842 - this year with March figures dropping 10.5pc to 17,796. Apart from the impact of used imports, the combination of bad weather and the early Easter have no doubt been felt. At the same time, however, the level of hire-car sales would have helped keep up registration levels. Significantly, UK import numbers are up 9.45pc - to 26,116 - but registrations for March are down 4.6pc.The number of electric cars registered so far is down from 298 to 282, but that is more a matter of supply than demand. The arrival of Nissan’s new LEAF (see P3) as well as the presence of Hyundai’s Ioniq and Renault’s Zoe should boost numbers significantly over the year. Some will see the plunge in diesel sales as vindication of the forecast that the fuel is dead as far as passenger cars are concerned. There is an element of truth in that in the long term, but it also has to be factored in that we are witnessing a rebalancing to levels prior to 2008 when petrol was the major fuel source. The figures also detail the best-selling marques this year, with Volkswagen leading the way ahead of Toyota, Hyundai, Ford, Nissan, Skoda, Renault, KIA, Mercedes and Audi. The statistics also show the Nissan Qashqai has, for now, taken over the mantle of the country’s most popular car, narrowly edging the evergreen Hyundai Tucson. But it is still early days. In third place is the Volkswagen Golf, followed by the Ford Focus, Skoda Octavia, KIA Sportage, Ford Fiesta, Toyota Yaris, Volkswagen Tiguan and the Nissan Micra.

FAI NATIONAl P.R.O. OF THE YEAR LEAGUE TITLE AND PROMOTION ROUND OFF GREAT YEAR FOR KERRY CAMOGIE: The hard work put in by the Kerry Camogie Team reaped rewards at The Ragg in Tipperary on Sunday when they captured the Littlewoods Ireland Division 3 Title and in the process gained promotion to Division 2. Kerry were underdogs entering the game but those who travelled to Tipperary on Sunday were confident that the Kerry girls would give a strong account of themselves and they did not disappoint their followers. The girls in the Green and Gold were quick off the mark when Caoimhe Shanahan pointed within seconds of the start. Patrice Diggin converted a free and raised a green flag when a free deflected into the net from a Roscommon hurley in the 14th minute. Patrice Diggin pointed from play and again from a free before and Rachel Fitzmaurice put Roscommon on the scoreboard. While Roscommon tried hard to get back into the game, Alannah Whelan dealt those attempts a blow when she found the net. Susan Spillane replied to leave the halftime score at 2-4 to 0-2. Roscommon had the wind in the second half but Kerry maintained their momentum. Aoife Behan was first to raise a white flag before Susan Spillane pointed from a free. Patrice Diggin from a free and Laura Collins from play pushed Kerry further ahead. While Susan Spillane pointed from a free, the final score of the day fell to Aoife Behan who got her second point to leave the final score at Kerry 2-8 Roscommon 0-4. Kerry will play Division 2 Camogie in 2019. PARNELLS NEWS: The minors had a great win against Ballyduff in the North Kerry league Sunday. Played in horrible conditions they played against a strong wind in the first half and were 4 points down at half time. The boys upped the intensity in the second half and after a mighty battle ended up winning by 3 points on a final score 0f 1-7 to 1-10. The girls put up a great performance in the Kerry Camogie B Feile final against Killarney and rattled the new in the last minute but still came up just short. Well done to the girls, coaches and parents who braved the elements to cheer on the team.

Well done to the club’s u12 hurlers who took part in the GAA U12 Hurling Blitz in Dublin. 27 players plus coaches and parents made the trip which saw them tour Croke Park and play a number of games. The U12 panel now enter a busy period of hurling with the U12 League and U11 competition starting in earnest. They beat Ballyduff recently in Division 1 of the Hurling League. The second u12 team went down to a very good St Pats/Dr Crokes team in Division 3. Historic Camogie Secondary Schools Blitz: Mercy Mounthawk Secondary School, Tralee was a hive of activity on Wednesday as local schools competed in a Camogie Blitz organised by Kerry Camogie Development Officer, Laura Collins. Mounthawk, Presentation and Gaelcholáiste Chiarraí all provided excellent exhibitions of Camogie. The u14/u16 semi-final against St Brendan’s was due to take place last night, Thursday, and we will have the result next week. The u16’s were narrowly defeated by Lixnaw in the County League. An U14 Camogie Parents and Players Meeting will take place in Caherslee tonight, Friday April 20th at 8.15pm. ST PAT’S NEWS: There was no winner of the Lotto from the numbers drawn 2,8,9 and 26. The u12’s just got past Ballyheigue after a goal-fest. It finished 5-10 to 5-07 in favour of St Pats. The u14 girls game with Churchill was re-fixed for mid-week. They were delighted to welcome Kieran Dwyer to their training and he brought the Dave Billings Cup with them while the u14 boys were Friday 20th April 2018
unlucky to lose away to Tousist. The u16’s ran out easy winners away to Castlesisland Desmonds. Disappointingly the minors failed to field a team against Spa and are due to be at home to Beale this Friday. April 20th. The seniors defeated Fossa in Group 3 of the Junior Premier Club Championship 0-11 points to 0-07 and now play Ballydonoghue in the Regegation Play-Off. STACKS NEWS: Austin Stacks u14 Boys have advanced to this year’s Feile Peile na nOg semi-final where they will take on Glenflesk. These have been re-scheduled for this Saturday at Connolly Park with the first game at 2.30 and the final an hour later. Paul Lucey Run – this takes place on May 7th and is a 5/10km walk or run and details are available from the club. The u6’s, u8’s and u10’s enjoyed their trip to Legion while the u12 A’s enjoyed two good wins in the County League. BALLYMAC NEWS: A draw 1-10 to 013 with Na Gael in the Premier Junior Championship Round 3 ends Ballymacs interest in the campaign. They led by two points at the break but could not hold on in blustery conditions. Ballymac would like to thank hosts Na Gael for the fine hospitality in their club rooms following the match and we wish you the best in this year’s championship. Next up for Ballymac will be Round 3 of The County League this Saturday 21st of April at 7pm V Austin Stacks at Connolly Park. The Minors went down 1-08 to 2-11 to Ardfert in their County League game played in Lyrecrompane. The u14;s had a good win in Round 2 of the County League defeating Fossa 5-07 to 4-08 while the u14 Girls also won in Round 2 of their County League defeating Beaufort 4-07 to 4-05. The u12’s were in Castleisland to play Desmonds and came away with a 3-14 to 1-12 win. This result sets up a final round decider with Austin Stacks to see who will be crowned North Kerry Division 1 Champions for 2018. The younger age groups were again
KERINS O’RAHILLYS NOTES: A 1-13 to 1-11 win in a vital Club Championship game against An Ghaeltacht means the seniors finish third in the group behind Dr Crokes and Stacks. But it also leaves them safe from relegation with An Ghaeltacht and Kenmare now having to battle it out to stay safe. They are back in County League action this week when the A’s welcome An Ghaeltacht while the B’s journey south to face Valentia. Minors: They went down to Castleisland in their County League game. Féile: In Feile the team played Laune Rangers and Kilcummin defeating the latter but going down to the former. It is the Killorglin side that go onto this weekend’s semi-final. Coiste Trá Lí: We next play Na Gaeil in the semi- final of this year’s league in Strand Road on Weds night next, 18th; we were unlucky losers to the same opposition in the opening round when going down by a point but with home advantage should be able to reverse the earlier result - Austin Stacks have already qualified for this year’s decider. There was another big turnout for the Academy with the following being named as the Players of the Week - Dominik Fako and Ava O’Donoghue at u6’s and Aoife O’Connell in the u8 girls. The u12 A’s just saw off Firies by 2 points but the B’#s went down to the same opposition. The u12 Girls played Corca Dhuibhne and led 1-08 to 1-02 at the break and held out for the win 2-17 to 2-05. Sharon Roche on behalf of The North Kerry Board presented the Cup to the winning capt. Aoibhín MacCarthy who gave a lovely speech and called for three cheers for Corca Dhuibhne. The girls defeated Milltown / Castlemaine but went down to Rathmore in the Feile. The ui14 B’s went down to Laune Rangers 5-19 to 3-06 while the B’s had a bye in the County League. In the Women’s Division One Fr Mathews’ head coach, James Fleming, has picked up the Coach of the Month award after they finished off a strong season in style in Waterford. IMPERIALS WIN ALL IRELAND: There was more glory for Kerry basketball this week with Tralee Imperials winning the AICC U16 B girls title. They defeated Kilkenny Stars by 3 points in the final in Dublin. St Brendan’s Boys just lost out on their decider in the u16A final losing to Neptune.
The squads for Kerry teams in the upcoming tournaments are being finalised at the moment. The annual end of season KABB Presentations and Awards are pencilled in for Friday April 27th for the Juveniles and the following nights for the seniors. SEAN LACEY ENJOYS MID-RACE DRAMA TO TAKE NATIONAL SERIES WIN: Sean Lacey on Sunday heaped praise on Viner-Caremark-Pactimo teammate Keith Fox, after his selfless act led to the defending champion taking a joint lead in the Men’s Cycling Ireland National Road Series. The Cork-based Tralee man finished third at the Des Hanlon Memorial in Carlow, the National Road Series first round, but back on local roads at the Donal Crowley Memorial Road Race in Blarney, he lined up as a clear favourite. Four of his teammates got into the winning breakaway with Lacey, a move of 14 riders that went 15km into the rolling 154km test, setting up a gruelling day under rain, and dipping temperatures. It quickly became clear this group was the selection and that Lacey’s team Viner-Caremark-Pactimo held the aces, with numbers on their side, but with about 65km to race Lacey’s gear cable broke. “I ended up having to do a change of bike,” Lacey explained. “[Team manager] Morgan Fox had to go back to another teammate, Keith Fox, further back in the race, to ask him to pull in and give me his bike. “Morgan then came back up to me, I did a change at the side of the road, and then had to chase back on. That was with two laps to go, so the adrenalin was pumping, and at the same time, the attacking started.” Unshaken, Lacey was among the first to get away, and with 20km to race, he went again, this time for good. Panduit Carrick Wheelers rider Jamie Blanchfield joined him, and teammate Conor Hennebry bridged, but they were no match in the final. Lacey said: “I felt with Keith being so selfless to give me his bike, there was an onus on me to do something special today and I was adamant that I would take the opportunity. I was able to attack with a kilometre to go, and it was great to come home solo on local roads.” Lacey’s victory puts him in joint lead with Blanchfield, who finished second for the second National Road Series round. Conor Hennebry, the overall winner at International stage race Ras Mumhan over Easter, finished third. ANOTHER BUSY WEEKEND AT THE TRACK: This Friday night at the Kingdom Greyhound Stadium there are the first round heats of the Lee Strand 550yds for A3 confined greyhounds. Also on Friday night there is a fundraiser for Currow National school with face painting, bouncy castle, great raffle prizes and music after racing. On Saturday night it’s the turn of Gaeil scoil Mhic Easmainn in Tralee to have their fundraiser with an all

sponsored 12 race program with the usual kid’s attractions plus best dressed lady, man and children’s competition and music after racing. A reminder to owners and trainers that the Kerry GAA supporters Race of Champions semi- finals will take place on Friday June 1st with final on Friday June 8th as part of the annual Kerry GAA fundraiser for Kerry GAA teams training fund. CHRISTOPHER CRASHES OUT OF CADETS: Tralee Boxing clubs Christopher Mongans bowed out of the Cadets Championships going down to Boy 3 Champion Luke McDaid from the Mulhuddart Boxing Club. Christopher had of course recently won the Irish title but on this occasion never got going. His fight did not take place until 6pm but he had been in the venue since 10am and this was possibly a factor. However McDaid is a year older than Mongans and he used all his experience to defeat the Kerry fighter. Doniejack Griffin said that Mongans and his coaches were disappointed but know that he will have more good than bad days. “On the day McDaid just had too much for our fighter but Christopher will put it down to experience and bounce back. He will take great belief from his national title and will be stronger next year. There are a number of Box Cups coming up so we will look at entering him into some of these”. TRALEE DYNAMOS NEWS: The final academy session took place at the IT rounding off a great series of training sessions for the clubs younger players. Under the guidance of the skilled coaches all the players have really developed. The club also thanks all the parents for bringing the players to the sessions. The Academy will start again in the late summer. Both of the clubs u12’s teams enjoyed wins at the weekend while the u15’s have progressed in the John Joe Naughton Cup. FAI Under 14 - Congratulations to Andy Rogers, a member of Dynamos 14s and 15s squads on his continuing involvement with the FAI Under 14 development squads since last summer. Dynamos club is honoured to have such players representing the club at the following age groups at National Level: Alex Hoare U-13, Andy Rogers U-14, Sean Kennedy U-16 who was on the team and scored in the first of this week’s games against Bulgaria, Leo Gaxha U-16 and former stalwart Rian O Sullivan U-19. DEFEAT FOR TRALEE RUGBY TEAMS: Tralee came up just short in their bid to win the McElligott Cup as they went down to Castleisland in a game played under lights at Cregeens. It ended 20-13 with the Tralee side almost tying up the game but the Castleisland defence held firm. Teams from the same two clubs met in the West Munster u16 semifinal with Castleisland again coming out on top on a 5-3 score-line. Friday 20th April 2018
ON THE SOCCER FIELD: The Kerry u17’s side put up a very good performance before going down 3-2 to Cork City. Cork have had the upper hand on Kerry but on this occasion the home side were every bit as good as their visitors to Mounthawk Park. John Carmody equalised for Kerry in a first half that ended 1-1. When Cork again went ahead in the second half Jordan Barry pulled Kerry level again. But Cork City got the winner late on in a game that the Kerry management led by Darren Aherne will take plenty of positives from. Kerry are at home to Wexford at Mounthawk Park at 2pm on Sunday. The Kerry 15’s returned from their second away game in a row with another point to add to the three they brought home from Galway the week before. Last weekend it as a 0-0 draw with Waterford that sees the u15’s up to joint third in the u15 League of Ireland table. Kerry will welcome Limerick to Mounhawk for a 3pm game on Saturday. Tralee Celtic booked their place in the Denny Premier B final after a 4-0 win over CSKA Tralee. This division could see an all Tralee final with Mitchels Avenue set to join Celtic in the decider. SAD END TO THE WEEK FOR KERRY SOCCER: The Kerry soccer family was saddened at the end of the week with the passing of Georgie O’Callaghan, A founder member of the Kerry Schoolboys League and of Castleisland FC he was well known in soccer circles all over Kerry and beyond. A huge crowd attended his funeral on both days including FAI CEO John Delaney and many of the top officials in the club. Georgie was given a Lifetime Award from the FAI and he leaves a legacy in the game that will be unequalled. ON THE GREEN’S TRALEE: In the Foursomes / Fourball Round 2 Mark Sheehy and Ned O’Shea Junior took the win from Anthony O’Connor and Mike Galvin. In the MC1 sponsored by the TLI Group David Sheehy, Padraig Daughton and Michael Leahy were the top three with Eoghan O’Donnell winning the Best Gross and the 18+ handicap going to Bob Dillon. In the Ladies competitions the 18 hole mid-week competition was won by Karen Gearon from Mary Savage. The MC1 was won by Mary Savage from Vera Tierney with the Best Gross going to Mary Murphy. In the Am Am Gold Classic sponsored by Mark Williams the winners were Tony Johnson, John M O’Sullivan, Maurice O’Connor and Michael Coote. The best all ladies team was Mary Sheehy, Mary Dowling, Mary Scully and Mags Hayes.
