Tralee Advertiser: Summer Tickets Luke who lives at home with his parents has just got his first job and is earning money for the first time and he has decided that he is going to buy tickets for a number of musicians that he has always wanted to see as well as going to a major summer festival. He is wondering what are his rights in buying concert and event tickets online and what he should look out for as he will be spending a lot of his hard earned income on these tickets. When you order tickets online you must get confirmation of the order in writing which should have the following information: The business’s legal title and identity, their address and presuming that you have paid for the tickets the price including any booking fees, delivery costs and arrangements, taxes and other charges. They need to inform you if there is a right of cancellation. The terms and conditions of the contract govern the arrangements between you and the seller of the tickets. Some ticket agents insist that you prove you are the person on the ticket when you arrive at the venue e.g. bringing credit card or ID. One must also be aware that there is no 14 day “cooling off “ period for getting out of an event ticket. The ticket sellers need to inform you of all prices and additional charges in advance, often this is at the last minute when you are putting through the charge on your card. Extras could include a booking fee, credit card fee, delivery fee if delivery is by post. While these may not be charged if you pay cash for the ticket at the venue one runs the risk of the event being sold out. Some ticket sellers will restrict numbers of tickets to avoid touting so if buying for a group one may have to use individual home addresses. If the event is cancelled one should be entitled to money back and the terms should not be unfair to the consumer. If you can’t go check that your ticket is transferable before selling online. Moreover if the event is sold out and you buy from a private seller you may not have any consumer law rights and no formal contract may apply. Be careful it is not a restricted view ticket or scam ticket. If the event is cancelled in this situation also one may have difficulty getting a refund as you were not the original purchaser. Beware of scam tickets for non-existent events e.g. abroad.

Medical Matters ACNE (PIMPLES AND SPOTS ON THE FACE) DR DAVID BUCKLEY
Acne is a common problem that affects most young people at some stage in their teens. While most teenagers will grow out of their acne after a few years, some will carry on into their early twenties or even thirties with acne. In fact, some people only begin to develop their acne in their twenties or thirties. This is known as adult onset acne. Acne is most common on the face but may also affect the chest and back. There are the usual hallmarks of oily skin with blackheads and white heads which are collectively known as comedones. The comedones cause blockage of the oil producing glands. This leads to swelling of the glands which eventually become infected with bacteria that cause inflammation resulting in pimples and spots (also known as papules and pustules or “zits”). The basic underlying problem is too much oil in the skin and blocked pores which is usually driven by the normal surge in hormones that are seen in the teens and early twenties. This can be aggravated by putting too much oily products on the skin such as oily moisturisers, oily makeups and oily sun blocks. It is important to avoid oily products on the skin if you have acne or a tendancy towards acne.
Use oil free products. Most people with oily acne do not need to moisturise as their skin is already too oily. In fact they should use products that will help to dry oily skin. Don’t believe the cosmetic industry. Moisturising does not prevent wrinkles. An oil free sun block will. Some acne treatments are quite drying on the skin and in this situation you might need to put on a light weight oil free, non-comedogenic moisturiser in the morning. Other things that can aggravate acne are picking, a diet very high in refined sugars and excessive dairy consumption (a glass of milk, one yogurt or small portion of cheese per day is OK). Some hormonal contraceptives like “the bar”, the “Mirena coil” and the mini pill may aggravate acne. The ordinary combined oral contraceptive pill may help acne. Next week I will discuss the treatment of acne.

WHAT’S HAPPENING IN TRALEE... Landers finalists in Energia Business Awards The finalists have been announced for this year’s Energia Family Business Awards. The ceremony which is the first of its kind in Ireland, celebrates successful generations of families who work together. The Energia Family Business Awards take place on the 24th May 2019 in the Round Room of the Mansion House, Dublin. Landers Outdoor World, an iconic family business based in Tralee where it was founded 35 years ago by Tim and Liz Landers, have been selected
as one of the finalists, in both the “Best Small Family Business of the Year” and “Best in Customer Service” categories.Commenting on the announcement, Manager of Landers, Emma Landers, explained what the awards means to the Tralee family run business. “To be shortlisted for both the Best Small Family Business and Customer Service categories means so much to our family and team here at the store. We have always focussed on delivering a first class
and personal service whilst striving to uphold the values and approach that my parents started the business with back in 1984, in that small shop in Court House lane.”“Moving to the larger store in Mile Height near Manor West in 2005 took the business to a completly new level, and I’m proud we were able to step up to a level where we are Ireland’s leading Outdoor retailer, whilst maintaining those family values, excellent customer service and a simple smile for all our loyal customers.”
The Energia Family Business Awards will acknowledge the efforts of family run businesses in reshaping the business landscape.
Baile Mhuire needs a new bus!!! BAILE Mhuire Day Centre for Older Persons in Tralee needs a new bus, it’s going to cost €50,000 and the money will mostly come from fundraising events such as a special concert at The Rose Hotel at 8pm on Sunday 12th May. A daughter of one of the clients at Baile Mhuire was so appreciative of the care and attention her mother has received, she has decided to organise the event entitled “With A Little Help From My Friends” to set the ball-rolling on raising funds to purchase the new bus. The Chairman of the Board at Baile Mhuire, Paddy Garvey,
said: “We have received so much positive support from the local community and the HSE to fund the provision of various services, including the new Stroke Day Service. Our bus is crucial in allowing us to deliver the best possible service, but it’s very old and we need a new one for the comfort of our clients. We are confident that we’ll be successful in sourcing a new bus thanks to a ‘little help from our friends’.” Performers on the night will feature local choir Opus 96 under the musical directorship of Martina Ryan Murphy and accompanied by Ann Connolly, will be joined by
special guests Ardfert Ladies Choir, local Tenor, Lloyd Fitzgibbon, and Friends of Baile Mhuire featuring Johnny Moriarty and Baile Mhuire serviceuser, Michael McCarthy. Tickets to the variety concert are only €15 and they are available from Baile Mhuire, Caherslee, Tralee; The Rose Hotel Reception; and members of both choirs and other concert performers.
“A Little Help From My Friends” in The Rose Hotel will get underway at 8pm on Sunday 12th May.

Anam Cara May Meeting Anam Cara Kerry, the organisation that supports bereaved
parents, is holding its monthly parent evening on Tuesday 14th May at 7:20pm in the Recovery Haven, 5 Haig’s Terrace, Killierisk, Tralee, Co. Kerry. This event offers parents a safe and comfortable forum where they can connect with other bereaved parents who understand the depth of grief and loss that follows after the death of their son or daughter. With Summer approaching, often as a bereaved parent we are reminded of the passing of time and all the events that sadly our son or daughter are not here for, such as family holidays and special occasions. It is important bereaved parents know there is support and resources available. Recovery Haven begins free group support programme for children Cancer support charity, Recovery Haven Kerry, will commence the highly-regarded CLIMB programme on Wednesday next, May 8th to support children aged between 5-12 years who are experiencing the impact of a cancer diagnosis on a parent or other significant adult. Facilitated by award-winning play therapist, Edel Lawlor of Expressive Play, this free group programme will run at the charity’s Tralee base over a six week period, from 5pm7pm, offering children an enjoyable, sharing, interactive experience where they can come together to deal with their feelings. Throughout the CLIMB programme – which stands for Children’s Lives Include Moments of Bravery – the young participants will develop an understanding of cancer and from this understanding the myths and fears that children can hold about cancer will be dispelled. The programme is creative, using drama, arts and play and are also based on having fun together and meeting new friends. The aim of the programme is to help children understand a cancer diagnosis by providing information on cancer; to learn how to express and cope with their feelings and emotions; to feel part of a social group by making friendships with other children sharing a similar experience and to cope with the dramatic changes they are witnessing and experiencing in the home. Places are limited to 12 children, so to book your child’s place or to find out more about the CLIMB programme, please call Recovery Haven Kerry on 0667192122. 22

Beauty
HELLO BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE! I HOPE YOU’RE HAVING AN AMAZING WEEK! This week I’m coming to you from Krabi, Thailand - it is so so beautiful here! As I am in Thailand, and it is HOT. There are only a small few beauty products that I am using but they are my absolute essentials over here. BONDI SANDS BODY WASH & MOISTURISER - I bought these in Sydney before I left and I have been loving them, mainly for two reasons 1) My skin feels SO soft & 2) They smell like coconut and I love coconut smelling things. They also just feel very holidayesque and that’s currently the vibe I’m going for. Pretty sure they’re not available in Ireland yet, but I imagine they will be soon.
MARIO BADESCU FACIAL SPRAY WITH ALOE, CAMOMILE & LAVENDER There is nothing worse than when you’re too hot humid and sticky and you just want to feel fresh. Well that’s exactly what I’ve been using this for, to freshen up my skin when I feel vile. You can get it on BeautyBay. CHRISTOPHE ROBIN BABY BLONDE MASK - If you are blonde, then you know the struggle of keeping your colour looking fresh on a sun holiday, between chlorine, sea water, sun exposure and over washing, your blonde can go from baby to brassy real quick. This is where this mask comes in. It is a purple based mask that doesn’t over tone the hair (aka your hair won’t go grey or purple) you’ll be left with the perfect Baby Blond. Christophe Robin isn’t currently sold anywhere in Ireland… yet. But I can imagine it will be soon. You can find the products on their EU site though!
CLARINS SPF 30 FACE SUNCREAM - If I use body suncream on my face, I break out a lot. So I always always use the Clarins SPF 30 because I am not out here trying to get skin damage of any kind.
WELLA OIL REFLECTIONS MASK - My own hair is naturally wild so humidity obviously does not help that. I wanted a leave in mask that I could use after my shower to nourish my hair. I only recently found out that you shouldn’t leave some masks and conditioners in for too long as if they have too much protein they can actually encourage hair breakage! WHAT? How did I not know this???? Either way. This mask doesn’t have too much protein so you can leave it in all day if you want. Pretty sure you can get it in Patrick’s The Hair Company.

Finger Lickin’ Chicken!
Everybody always goes for the chicken breast , its so popular but in reality its flavourless so here I’m using one of the tastiest p ieces of the chicken...guess which piece?... the thigh of course... it has much more flavour and taste and is a very versatile part of any good Chicken dish.
GENERAL TSO’S CHICKEN
Serves 4 The version here is lighter than take-out because the chicken is only lightly coated in cornstarch and is pan fried rather than deep-fried
INGREDIENTS • • • • • • • • • • • • •
1 1/2 teaspoons toasted sesame oil 1 large egg white 1/4 cup plus 1 tablespoon soy sauce 1/4 cup plus 3 tablespoons cornstarch 1 pound skinless boneless chicken thighs, trimmed and cut into 1 1/2-inch pieces 1 cup chicken stock 1 teaspoon Chinese chile-garlic sauce 3 tablespoons sugar 1 tablespoon vegetable oil, plus more for frying 2 tablespoons very finely chopped fresh ginger 2 large garlic cloves, minced 4 scallions, thinly sliced Steamed broccoli and white rice, for serving
METHOD In a medium bowl, combine the toasted sesame oil with the egg white, 1 tablespoon of the soy sauce and 1/4 cup plus 2 tablespoons of the cornstarch. Add the chicken, stirring to coat. Let stand at room temperature for 20 minutes. Meanwhile, in a small bowl, whisk the chicken stock with the chile-garlic sauce, sugar and the remaining 1/4 cup of soy sauce and 1 tablespoon of cornstarch. In a large saucepan, heat the 1 tablespoon of oil. Add the ginger and garlic and cook over high heat until fragrant, about 1 minute. Stir the stock mixture, add it to the pan and cook until thickened and glossy, about 3 minutes. Keep the sauce warm over low heat. In a large, deep pan, heat 1/2 inch of oil until shimmering. Carefully add the chicken, one piece at a time, and fry over high heat, turning once or twice, until very browned and crisp, about 4 minutes. Drain the chicken on paper towels and immediately add to the sauce along with the scallions. Cook just until coated, about 30 seconds. Serve right away, with steamed broccoli and rice

TORQUING CARS! RANGE ROVER GETS NEW MILD-HYBRID POWERTRAIN
Jaguar Land Rover has fitted a new mild-hybrid engine to the Range Rover, comprising a turbocharged 3.0-litre straight-six petrol engine and electric motor. JLR claims the new powertrain improves the Range Rover’s economy, reduces emissions and benefits performance. Performance figures for the new 3.0-litre straight-six MHEV powertrain stand at 394bhp and 550Nm of torque. The engine is fitted with a twin-scroll turbocharger, assisted by an electric motor which primes the turbine at low engine speeds. JLR claims this system eliminates turbo lag, allowing a 0-60mph time of 5.9 seconds and a top speed of 140mph.Like all Range Rovers, power is fed to all four wheels via an eightspeed automatic transmission. Economy stands at 30.4mpg, while emissions are a claimed 212g/km of CO2 under the NEDC test regime. These figures are achieved with the help of start-stop technology and an energy recuperation system, which harvests electricity under deceleration and stores it in a 48V battery for later use. To complement the new powertrain, JLR has given the Range Rover an updated colour palette and new 22-inch alloy wheels. Revised headlights also feature with a new “Tourist Mode” and “Signpost Dimming” settings. The former adjusts the beam direction when driving abroad, while the latter identifies road signs and dips the beam accordingly to reduce glare.Inside, the Range Rover now comes as standard with JLR’s Smartphone Pack, which adds support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Land Rover’s Terrain Response 2 is a persistent feature, as well as safety features such as adaptive cruise control and highspeed emergency braking.
NEW 182BHP DIESEL FOR FORD TRANSIT CUSTOM SPORT VAN
Ford has upped the power of its 2.0-litre four-cylinder EcoBlue diesel, providing a new range-topper for the Transit Custom Sport rangeThe Ford Transit Custom Sport has received a more powerful version of Ford’s 2.0-litre EcoBlue turbocharged diesel engine. Available in both short and long wheelbase, as well as panel van, kombi van and doublecab-in-van body styles, the new model is on sale now, in the UK priced from £32,270. and should be hitting Irish shores shortly .Revisions include an updated high-pressure fuel injection system and a reworked low-inertia turbocharger, which Ford claims delivers a broad spread of power throughout the rev range. Power and torque stands at 182bhp and 415Nm respectively, with buyers given the choice of either a manual or automatic six-speed transmission. Like all Ford Transit Custom Sport models, this latest range-topper gets a pair of racing stripes and a bold body kit with deeper front and rear bumpers, wider side skirts, flared wheel arches and body coloured door mirrors. Buyers also have their choice of either 17- or 18-inch alloy wheels.Inside, the new Transit Custom is trimmed in part-leather and comes fitted as standard with an eight-inch infotainment screen and a roaming WiFi hotspot. Optional equipment includes active park assist, adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist and a blind spot monitoring system with support for trailers up to 10 metres in length.
RAC UNVEILS ‘EV BOOST’ SYSTEM TO RESCUE STRANDED ELECTRIC CARS
Technology co-developed by the RAC can charge electric cars remotely on the roadside The RAC has revealed its new ‘EV Boost’ system, capable of providing an emergency charge on the roadside for electric cars that have run out of battery power. The system uses a generator to top up depleted batteries remotely, giving electric vehicles enough charge to reach the nearest available charging point. The first six RAC recovery vans to adopt the technology will hit the roads in June, based in London, Birmingham and Manchester initially. The RAC says more will be rolled out in areas with a high rate of callouts in the future.“With nothing like it on the market the real challenge was to develop a mobile EV-charger system which is compact and light enough to fit into our normal patrol vehicles without compromising on space,” said Chris Millward, head of roadside innovation at the RAC. “So we can still carry all the normal parts and tools to help our patrols continue to fix four out of five vehicles at the roadside.”Other solutions that are available require valuable van space to be taken up by heavy portable chargers that negatively affect fuel economy and also need to be recharged after use. Our on-demand solution means that the power is always available when needed.” Developed in partnership with automotive engineering firm Original Ltd, the RAC’s EV Boost system is compatible with Type 1 and Type 2 chargers, meaning it can come to the aid of virtually every electric vehicle on sale.Millward added: “The number of electric vehicles on the road will grow rapidly in the next few years, in particular we are seeing increased interest and take-up from business and fleet managers, so it is critical that we have an effective mobile power source for these cars in an emergency giving EV-owners complete peace of mind.”The RAC also hopes its technology will provide peace of mind to drivers with range anxiety: the fear of running out of range before reaching a destination or charging point.Electric cars usually can’t be towed, because doing so can damage the motors. Without a remote charging system - such as the one being adopted by the RAC a flat-bed truck is normally required to remove depleted electric cars from the roadside. 34

TORQUING CARS! SHORTCUTS WITH EDDIE.. (EDDIE CUNNINGHAM , INDO MOTORING)
We take cars such as the Toyota Corolla and Volkswagen Golf for granted. They are part of the fabric of motoring, but do we ever get excited bout them? No. Of course they have been quite dull over the years, but the fact of the matter is they continue to rack up record sales like few others. Take the Golf - first made back in March 1974. Since then, believe it or not, a new one has been ordered, without interruption, somewhere in the world, every 41 seconds. For the figure lovers among us, that’s around 780,000 vehicles a year and translates into 35m sold worldwide since production of the ‘Golf I’ started at the Wolfsburg plant Few would have bet on that, even within Volkswagen, as the Golf took on the mantle of successor to the Beetle. I wonder how many of today’s cars will ever get near that. You never know, I suppose. Will it be a Tesla? A Merc? A Beemer? Or will they be making cars at all in 2074? Back in August 1974, meanwhile, first deliveries of the ‘new’ Golf began. There were 2dr and 4dr versions of the five-seater; there was a foldable rear bench and 300 litres of a boot. Power was provided by two petrols: a 1.1-litre 4cyl (50PS) and a 1.5-litre 4cyl 70PS. It was front-wheel drive, had a 4spd manual gearbox with a 3spd automatic optional. Maximum speed was 140kmh and 160kmh respectively. * From yesterday to tomorrow: Audi will show their AI:me new design study (pictured below) at Shanghai Motor Show on April 15. The concept points to Audi’s take on what an automated compact car could look like for the ‘megacities’ of the future. Will there be an order every 41 seconds? Time will tell. * Renault will roll out a facelifted version of the Megane later this year. There will, for the first time, be a hybrid option. It’s expected the revised car will be shown at September’s Frankfurt motor show and be on early next year. * Alfa Romeo’s GTV coupé is due to be unveiled in 2021. The marque’s five-year strategy promises several new models as well as the re-introduction of older names. * Jaguar Land Rover plans to recover aluminium from end-of-life vehicles, melt it down and reform into material for new model production. Their new recycling scheme is part of a drive to cut waste and emissions all through car production.

LAUGHTER ....THE BEST MEDICINE ! A CHEMIST, A MECHANIC, A ELECTRICIAN, AND A COMPUTER PROGRAMMER WERE DRIVING IN A CAR WHEN IT BROKE DOWN.
“This must be because we’ve mixed the wrong fuel additive!” said the chemist. “Thats stupid !” said the mechanic. “This is clearly a mechanical problem. There must be something wrong with the engine.” “Both of you are wrong. The problem lies with the car wiring and the battery.” argued the electrician. The computer programmer sighed and said, “Guys, calm down. I think we should just close all the windows, turn off the car and turn it on again.”
I, BEING AN IRISH CATHOLIC, DECIDED IT WAS TIME TO CLEANSE MY SOUL.
I went into the confessional box after many years of being away from the Catholic Church. Inside, I found a fully equipped bar with Guinness on tap. On one wall, there was a row of decanters with fine Irish whiskey and Waterford crystal glasses. On the other wall was a dazzling array of the finest cigars and chocolates. When the priest came in, I said to him, “Father, forgive me, for it’s been a very long time since I’ve been to confession, but I must first admit that the confessional box is much more inviting than it used to be.” He replied, “You idiot , you’re on my side.”

Dad: Don’t forget that you have thousands of euros of student debt. So technically you’re less than worthless.

A BLONDE CALLED HER BOYFRIEND AND SAID,
Please come over here and help me. I have a killer jigsaw puzzle, and I can’t figure out how to put it together or how to get it started.” Her boyfriend asked, “What is it supposed to be when it’s finished?” The blonde said, “ According to the picture on the box, it’s a tiger.” Her boyfriend decided to go over and help with the puzzle. She let him in and showed him where she had the puzzle spread out all over the table. He studied the pieces for a moment, looked at the box, then turned to her and said, “First of all, no matter what we do, we’re not going to be able to assemble these pieces into anything resembling a tiger.” He took her hand and said, “Second, I want you to relax. Let’s have a nice cup of hot chocolate and then.......” he sighed, ..... “Let’s put all of these Frosted Flakes back into the box.

On this occasion Tyrone were the quickest out of the blocks and hit three first half goals to lead 3-04 to 0-02. Kerry were doubly unlucky as the wind that Tyrone played with died down at the start of the second half. Kerry battled hard to get back into the game but Tyrone were too strong on the day and ran out 3-12 to 0-06 winners. The team and management deserve great credit in reaching the final and while this was not to be their day they will have better ones ahead. RALLY OF THE LAKES: Tralee motor sport fans will be heading to Killarney this weekend for the Cartell.ie Rally of the Lakes. The 16 stage event gets underway on Friday night with the ceremonial start in the Fair Hill carpark from 5pm. This is the car-park opposite the Friary and was used when the Circuit of Ireland Rally used to overnight in Killarney. The stages kick off with Molls Gap on Saturday morning the winner is expected on the ramp at the Gleneagle Hotel around 5pm on Sunday. LEAGUE OF IRELAND 13’S AT HOME: With this being the Bank Holiday weekend the only League of Ireland game is the rearranged u13 game with Kerry at home to Athlone. Both sides lost out last weekend so will be hoping to get back to winning ways. The game kicks off at 2pm on Saturday. LOI AT HOME IN CUP OPENER: Kerry’s 1st Round game in the U19 Enda McGuill Cup against Cobh Ramblers has been confirmed

TALKING SPORT WITH THE TRALEE ADVERTISER for Tuesday 7th May at 8pm in Mounthawk Park Tralee. SEAN’S IN GREEN AGAIN: Taking the plunge and moving cross channel to try and make it as a professional soccer player is never easy. One player that has made that move and has certainly done everything right to date is Sean Kennedy. The Annascaul native and ex Tralee Dynamos and Kerry player has been doing very well at Sunderland and with Ireland. And all his hard work has played off as he has just been named in Colin O’Brien’s Republic of Ireland squad for European U17 Championships which the country is hosting from this weekend. Ireland will play Greece in Tallaght today Friday, May 3rd and then face the Czech Republic in the RSC in Waterford on Monday the 6th. They are back in Tallaght for their final group game on May 9th when Belgium will be the opposition. PARK YOUNGSTERS ENJOY INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION: Well done to all involved with the St Brendan’s Park u11’s and u12’s who had a week to remember as they were in Spain to take part in the Barcelona Cup – one of the biggest underage tournaments on the continent. The boys played a series of game in a hectic few days and certainly acquitted themselves well with the 11’s finishing 12th out of 24 teams and the 12’s 10th from 20 just missing out on 9th spot after losing out 9-8 in an amazing penalty shoot-out. To take to teams to a tournament like this is a huge undertaking for the club. Those involved and all those who helped with the fundraising deserve praise for giving these young players the opportunities to make lifelong memories. GIRLS SOCCER ACADEMY AT ST BRENDAN’S PARK FC: Following the success of the FAI Soccer Sisters Camps over Easter Tralee soccer club St Brendan’s Park FC is delighted to establish a girl’s only soccer academy. Training is on Saturdays at Christy Leahy Park at 11:15. Girls aged 5-11 are welcome to attend over the next 2 weekends to give soccer a go, the training fee is just €2 per session. After the next two training sessions we will register the girls that wish to join us as Academy members. To promote girls soccer we will offer membership for just €40 for this year, this is more than half price and will include a full Academy training kit from O’Neills. In order to provide soccer for girls we need parents to help with coaching. Full support is provided by Park FC to assist our volunteer coaches. If you require further information or are willing to coach please text the Academy Manager Preston McEvoy at 087 1471288. AT THE TRACK: This Friday night at the Kingdom Greyhound Stadium the rearranged meeting that was
cancelled last Friday night due to Storm Hanna will take place. This will feature all the first nine round heats of the Lee Strand 550 yards. On Saturday night there is the final of the Kingdom Stadium Novice 325 yards, the semi-finals of the Kingdom Stadium Novice 525 yards and the semi-finals of the Tralee Chernobyl Children’s Fund / Tilemaster A5 confined 525 yards. On Sunday the SIS meeting takes place with the first race off of 8 off at 6.35pm. The next KGOBA novice 750 yards will take place on May 25th. WHITE FLAG TO DROP ON FIRST KERRY RACE MEETING OF THE YEAR: Killarney is about to host its first race meeting of the year which starts with a special family day on Sunday May 12th. The first race will be off at 1.35pm with a National Hunt card plus lots of free entertainment, competitions and music. Monday’s racing gets underway at 5.05pm with the Killarney National worth e70,000 the highlight. Tuesday’s flat card begins at 5.20pm with special discounts for those working in the hospitality area. The total prize fund for the May races, the first of three meeting during the summer is e450,000. NO TRACK IN TRALEE: The fact that the race course at Ballybeggan continues to be a hugely underused facility must rancour with many people in Tralee. Will this ever be used to its potential again? It should become a multi-sports venue with the race track at the centre of the development. I am sure that a number of meetings could be held their including the races in conjunction with the Rose of Tralee. Also included could be a track catering cycle racing and running and when this is not being used for competitive events it could be a great area for leisure activities. There are lots of other activities that could be part of the development including hosting the autocross events and the County Fair. It must certainly be worth exploring the possibilities of doing something with the venue in Ballybeggan. FENIT RNLI LIFEBOAT ANNUAL FUNDRAISING 50KM AND 80KM CYCLE: Fenit RNLI will hold its 16th annual cycle on Saturday May 11th 2019. This year’s cycle has two options for cyclists. There will be the traditional 50km route and a new 80km route. Both options will start and finish in Tralee. “All funds raised from the event will go directly to support the Fenit Lifeboat service. Lifeboat t-shirts will be presented to all participants and O’Donnell’s in Mounthawk will provide refreshments after the cycle. We are hoping to cater for our cyclists by offering an

additional extended route this year. You can help by taking part or by sponsoring one of the cyclists or making a contribution on the day which is very much appreciated,” said Fenit Lifeboat Fundraising Manager Mike O’Connor. CATHAL FOURTH IN DRUMM CUP: The 2019 John Drumm race in Currow was one of the best in years with the Cup staying in Kerry for the first time since Paul Griffin won in 2005. Killarney’s John Brosnan showed no ill effects of the Ras Mumhan 4 day the previous weekend and took the win after jumping clear of Paul Kennedy Foran CC and Conor Kissane who was back in the Killarney team after riding the Ras Mumhan with the Irish team. From a Tralee point of view Tralee Manor West Cathal Moynihan was 5th. It was also great to see his fellow club mate Denis Dunworth back riding at the top level taking 10th following a long lay-off due to injury. In the A3 race Dwayne Griffin and Ronan O’Shea took 13th and 14th while Stephen Reidy was 4th in the A4 race and Edward O’Mahony was 13th. All of these riders are part of the Tralee Manor West club. The summer season in Kerry kicks off on May 9th with the first round of the Hill Climb League. Action on the Kerry roads continues until the end of August with Tralee Manor West BC running the TT League and County Championships as well as a round of the Road Race League on August 8th. PITCH AND PUTT NEWS: The 2019 season got underway in earnest last Sunday with the Munster Gents Matchplay Qualifiers which were played in Tralee under 36 holes of Strokeplay. Tralee was it its usual tough test with fast greens as well as interesting pin positions but eventually a total of seven players in the three graders ensured that they will be going on to the Finals in Larkspur Park in Cashel on the weekend of May 19th next. In the senior Jason Cregan shot the best score of the day with four under par to claim the sole spot on offer there as scores of one over and five over par respectively ensured that Deerpark’s Adam Kelly and Tralee’s Aidan O’Sullivan respectively would claim the two Intermediate grade spots. The Junior had the majority of spots on offer with four as Deerpark’s Noel Moynihan led the way on eight over par, followed by Conor Leahy from Listowel a shot further back on nine over. The final two spots went to Listowel’s John Carey with 13 over with our County Chairman David Hobbert from Tralee claiming the last qualifying spot with 15 over par. Congratulations to all seven on qualifying as the draw for the Finals
