KERRY SKIN CLINIC
ROSACEA (RED, SPOTTY FACE IN ADULTS) BY DR DAVID BUCKLEY Irish people with Celtic skin are particularly prone to rosacea. This is a red, pimply rash on the face that develops in some adults. It can look a bit like acne because there is usually numerous pimples and spots on the face. However, unlike acne, there is no blackheads or whiteheads and the skin is not usually oily. With rosacea, the skin is red (hence the name) and the skin blushes easily, especially with stress, exercise, alcohol, spicy foods, etc. Rosacea usually occurs in adults. However, it can occur even in teenagers and elderly people. Rosacea is aggravated by ultraviolet light. This includes sunlight and sunbeds. Ultraviolet light can penetrate through clouds, so people with rosacea must protect the skin on their face using a high factor sunblock (e.g. SPF 30) and a broad brimmed hat all year round, even on cloudy days. They may need to take extra vitamin D in the winter if they are covering up with hats and sunblocks. People with rosacea should avoid putting any steroid creams on their face.
Treatments for rosacea include special rosacea creams which are usually only available on prescription from the doctor. These can take six to twelve weeks to work. More troublesome cases may also have to add in rosacea tablets which are similar to acne tablets that we give to teenagers. A course of the tablets usually last six to twelve weeks. Rosacea can occasionally affect the eyelids causing gritty eyes. Fortunately, this can be treated with similar treatments as mentioned above for the skin. On completion of a course of treatment, all the pimples and spots should be gone, and the redness should have reduced. Some people have persistent redness despite treatment and may benefit from laser treatment to get rid of the redness which is due to broken veins. Most cases of rosacea can be managed by your GP but more troublesome cases may need to be seen by a skin specialist.

Wine review with Carry Out, Tralee & Ardfert
Gallo Cabernet Sauvignon In 1933, brothers Ernest & Julio Gallo founded a winery in California with nothing but a love of wine and a lot of determination. This medium-bodied wine flaunts intense aromas of dark fruit, such as blackberry with hints of vanilla and rich dark spices. It will go well with lasagna, steak, lamb chops or roast pork.

The KerryDublin flight now has interlining facilities with the Aer Lingus network out of Dublin to major cities in North America as well as Toronto in Canada. Commenting on the financials and the on-going operations of the Airport for the year, Mr. Denis Cregan, Chairman of Kerry Airport said: “The results for the year 2018 were satisfactory in terms of financial growth and passenger traffic with passenger numbers growing by another 9% year-on-year.
Increased daily capacity on the Kerry-Dublin service by the Airline (Stobart Air under the Aer Lingus Regional branding) with the larger ATR-72 aircraft, together with growth on this route of 12%, is a positive development for the Region going forward under the new PSO contract 2018-2022. This twice daily flight is of critical importance to the Region and with fares as low as €44 each way - we hope this product will continue to get the support it deserves.”

WHAT’S HAPPENING IN TRALEE.. Tralee secures over €3m in Tralee-Fenit Greenway Funding Aontú Candidate in the Tralee Municipal Area, Mary Fitzgibbon, has
welcomed the announcement of funding for the Tralee-Fenit Greenway. Mary Fitzgibbon said, “This is one of my election priorities. I would like to pay tribute to all those dedicated people who have campaigned for this for years. My father Sean Kelly along with Tom Finn and Jim Costello mapped out the Dingle Way in the 1980s. These initiatives bring great life to communities. I look forward to the swift delivery of funding and the prompt commencement of work to develop this brilliant amenity.”
Spa N.S. takes time to ‘Live Life’ for Donal Last Sunday was certainly a day to remember for all those who turned out for the 5th ‘Donal Walsh Spa 6K Challenge’ hosted by Spa N.S. The school organised the family fun day in honour of Donal, their past pupil on May 19th. “We wanted to honour Donal in a special way and so the committee worked to create an event where people would come together for a few hours, have fun and ‘live life’ just as Donal had urged us all to.” said school principal Peter Linehan. “Huge credit must go to our organising committee and fantastic team of loyal volunteers who have yet again worked tirelessly over the past few weeks to
ensure that everything would be ready”, added Peter. Over five hundred and fifty people visited the event. The school was a hive of activity in the beautiful sunshine with a fabulous market in operation and 5th and 6th class students coordinating fun games and challenges for young and old all day. Local musician Ian O Doherty too was at his splendid best entertaining the crowd in a lively sing along. The Parents Association had also organised a beautiful barbeque on site with teas and tasty treats also being served up as well. The water rocket competition organised by parent Cormac Murphy was a huge hit with both adults and
kids amazed at the heights being reached by the rockets which had been designed by the students. The street performer, Monsieur Gusto made a number of appearances and had everyone in stitches with his show. However, the main event of the day was the ‘Donal Walsh Spa 6K Challenge’ a looped run/walk starting and finishing at the school. Donal’s parents Fionbar and Elma & sister Jema Walsh were on hand to officially start the run/ walk for the five hundred and fifty participants. There was a wonderful atmosphere as young and not so young set off to tackle the course in the beautiful sunshine. First home in the men’s section was well known Kerry fitness coach Arthur Fitzgerald from Currow with local man Mike Sheehy a close second and James Daly from Ballyheigue in third. Gillian Murphy scooped first place in the ladies section
closely followed by local lady Ciara Tierney in second and Catherine O Sullivan an impressive third. However, everyone who tackled the course were welcomed back with warm rounds of applause and collected their well deserved medals. Elma Walsh was thrilled with the event, “We are delighted to be back in Spa N.S. a place where Donal had so many happy days. The committee have yet again organised a really wonderful day for everyone to ‘live life’ and Donal would have loved it!”

WHATS DIFFERENT ABOUT BROOKFIELD?
Elisha "This year , we celebrate working with students for 31 years , since 1988 " says Principal Elisha Dowling . "I like to emphasise the word 'with' as it conveys the approach we take with all students who come here ...We have created an atmosphere in the College where students are expected and encouraged to perform to the best of their ability. The most important part of this equation (yes , Elisha also teaches Maths!) has to be our teachers .At present we have 15 teachers in the school , all highly qualified teachers who are motivated and enthusiastic about teaching ...They just love teaching ...and that does come out in the students! And because there is rarely any changeover of teachers , that gives our students consistency ..very important in the exam years . We dont have uniforms and teachers are known on a first name basis... this all fosters maturity amongst the students. All our students are given regular assessments and each is assigned a tutor who meets with them several times during the year , discussing progress and giving both advice and guidance.Career guidance also gets priority during the Senior Cycle as we find it answers a lot of questions that students may have and gives them clarification. Its very satisfying to hear, maybe even a few years after they've gone that former students have found their time with us to be hugely positive... thats enough for me "

U
S ON 066-714 In an Irish Times survey conducted on Irelands best College Feeder schools, 5896 Brookfield emerged as one of the top 2 schools in Ireland . The survey noted that 100% of all Brookfield students who sat the Leaving Cert in 2012 went onto third level education . This puts Brookfield ahead of other schools in large urban areas such as Dublin , Cork , Galway and Limerick . According to Principal Elisha Dowling " We have an extremely high standard set here and in my experience when you combine excellent teachers who are highly motivated with an atmosphere that demands the greatest effort from the students , this can have a significant positive effect on an individuals results !"
JUST SOME OF OUR REVIEWS ........................................... We were enormously impressed not only by the quality of the teaching but also by the very obvious commitment you have to fulfil each students potential. (Parents review)
Very structured way of teaching and makes sure everyone gets what they're capable of achieving.

HELLO BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE!
I HOPE YOU’RE HAVING AN AMAAAAZING WEEK! I’m currently in Phuket Airport waiting to check in for my flight… HOME. I’m moving home. I’m SO excited. Sydney was such an experience & I had so so many fantastic opportunities mainly working alongside one of Sydney’s top hair dressers, Renya Xydis in her Salon, Valonz. Working at Valonz I learned so much, I worked with amazing models for photo shoots and some of my best work was done there. I’m so ready to come home and put what I learned in Australia to work! Which means, yes, I am taking appointments from Friday 24th May onwards for all occasions. To book an appointment you can email me at rebeccashorttmakeup@gmail.com or message me on Instagram @rebeccashorttmakeup. I’m so excited to paint faces of both regular and new clients! My book is fully open so whether it’s an appointment for an event coming up soon or in a few months, you can get it locked in. I’m also taking Bridal Trial & Party appointments as well as appointments for The Rose Of Tralee. I hope to see a lot of familiar and new faces soon.

FITNESS!
HELLO MY STRONG STRONG FRIENDS, I hope you’re all having a great week. I’ve been loving a good cardio sweat sesh so this week I’m going to talk about the importance of cardio. Now when I say cardio is important I don’t mean jogging excessively on the treadmill for hours, hating every second, punishing yourself for that ‘bad food’ you ate. NO. I’m talking about doing different exercises that make you feel good and improve your cardiovascular health while doing so. It might be swimming, boxing, a gym class, walking the dog, cycling anything that gets you up and moving and feeling good!
I used to hate ‘cardio’ because what cardio meant to be was doing the same exercise EVERY time. Aka jogging for 30 mins. When I started switching up the cardio workouts I was doing, introducing swimming, sprints, interval training, boxing, gym classes etc… I really started enjoying it! I love getting a good sweat on and getting my heart rate up! I also fell in love with the Cardio classes in Titan Fitness, I loved the feeling I got after them. Doing cardio is important to maintaining a healthy heart. Your heart is the centre of your cardiovascular system, and is vitally responsible for giving your body life! Of course, doing excessive intense cardio is not good either. It will put your body in a catabolic state and burn your hard earned muscle. Then if you lose too much muscle it will slow down your metabolism in turn making it harder to burn fat. So if you think introducing a training regime where all you do is intense cardio sessions 5 times a week with no weight training, you’re not going to benefit!
If you think you have fallen into a rut of either extreme(all weight training or all cardio) just try and introduce something new to switch it up a little. Of course you can do things like HIIT training with some weights and get the best of both worlds. All I’m saying is, cardio is not the devil when done correctly. And it will actually help your performance in the weight room.

LAUGHTER ....THE BEST MEDICINE ! A MAN REALLY HATED HIS WIFE’S CAT
COUGH MIXTURE
Undeterred, he put the cat in the car and took it a few miles across the city and tossed it out the car again. Upon returning home, he was astonished to see that the cat had beat him home again. Determined at this point, the man took the cat and drove him across the city, over the river, through the woods, and clear across three counties before putting the cat outside and driving off. Several hours later the man’s wife was at home when the phone rang. She picked up and it was her husband. “Is the cat there?” He asked. “Yes…” she replied. “Well put him on the phone, I’m lost”
SON ASKS HIS FATHER WHY DOES HE SPEAK SO LIGHTLY AT HOME?
One day, he put the cat in his car and took it to the end of the block and let it go. When he got home he saw that the cat had beat him home.
IN THEIR 5TH MARRIAGE ANNIVERSARY THE GUY TOOK HIS WIFE TO CHINA
When he came back his friend asked him “what did you do for the anniversary?” “I took her to china”, the man said. his friend: “wow, that was only for your 5th anniversary, I wonder what you gonna do for your 50th one?” he replied: “I’m gonna go get her back”.
WHAT A WEIRD DAY! FIRST I FOUND A HAT FULL OF MONEY. Then I was followed around by some guy with a guitar.
The pharmacist walks into the store to find a guy leaning heavily against a wall. He asks the blonde clerk: “What’s with that guy over there by the wall?” The blonde clerk responds: “Well, he came in here this morning to get something for his cough. I couldn’t find the cough syrup, so I gave him a bottle of laxative.” The pharmacist said:”You can’t treat a cough with a laxative!” The blonde clerk responds,”Of course you can! Look at him, he’s afraid to cough!”
Father replies because there is artificial intelligence that listens to everything we say. Son laughs, the dad laughs, Alexa laughs
A MAN WAS DRIVING WHEN HE NOTICED THE FLASH OF A TRAFFIC CAMERA.
He figured that his picture had been taken for speeding, even tough he knew he wasn’t. Just to be sure, he went around the block and passed the same spot, driving even more slowly. Again the camera flashed. Thinking he was funny, he drove by at a snail’s pace. Two weeks later, he received five tickets in the mail for driving without a seatbelt.

TORQUING CARS! ONLINE SHOPPING DOUBLES UK DELIVERY VANS ON THE ROAD
A huge increase in the number of delivery vans on the roads in the UK is fuelling gridlock, official figures show.A report by the Department for Transport revealed the ‘rapid rise in van traffic over the last 25 years’ has helped drive congestion levels to new heights. It said vans clocked up 51billion miles last year, almost double the tally in 1993, while the number of licensed vans on the roads has almost doubled from 2.1million in 1994 to four million last year. The DfT said the boom in online shopping and home deliveries is one of the reasons van traffic has been rising so quickly. It said 78 per cent of us shopped online at least once last year, compared to just 53 per cent in 2008. It also said less strict regulations for van drivers compared with lorry drivers – from training to the number of maximum working hours – had encouraged firms to switch from using small lorries to vans.Edmund King, of the AA, said: ‘If current trends in online shopping, supermarket and takeaway deliveries and the gig economy continue to rise we could see extended gridlock in towns and cities across the UK.’Mr King also warned that councils’ introduction of large fees for lorries and trucks to drive into new clean air zones could spark another big surge in van traffic. He said: ‘In an effort to beat the charge, a convoy of vans could replace a single lorry. ‘This in turn would have an adverse impact on local areas as there would be additional vehicles on the road, creating more congestion, and more pollution.’London Mayor Sadiq Khan last month introduced a £100 daily charge for more polluting lorries to enter the new ultra low emissions zone in central London, on top of the £11.50 congestion charge. But smaller vans pay £12.50, on top of the congestion charge – the same as more polluting cars
NEW DEVICE THAT AUTOMATICALLY DETECTS DRIVERS WHO USE MOBILE PHONES AT THE WHEEL
More than 10 million drivers are currently thought to be using their phones at the wheel - however new rules could put an end to that for good. Police have unveiled a new smart device which can detect when motorists are using their phones on the road. Hampshire and Thames Valley police forces are the first to use the new technology which can determine how many cars on a stretch of road have phones being used without handsfree kits. When the device, created by technology firm Westcotec, spots a phone being used, it will flash a mobile phone symbol at the vehicle to advise the driver to stop using their mobile phone. It can also enable police to identify hotspots where mobile phones are frequently used by motorists.A spokesman for the two forces said: “The technology can detect when Bluetooth is being used but cannot detect if a passenger is using the phone, but the sign will still be activated reminding motorists of the distraction of a mobile phone whilst driving.”
CAR ADVICE WITH HONEST JOHN – YOUR QUESTIONS ANSWERED NO GO AREA
My daughter bought a new 7-seater Skoda Kodiaq 6 weeks ago. On two occasions recently soon after setting out and stopped at a busy junction the car would not move when the accelerator was pressed. She says it stayed like this for 15-30 seconds which seemed like an age with cars behind hooting. On contacting the salesman he said he had heard of others reporting this issue with the 1.5 TSI engine. The dealer is a considerable distance away and my daughter (time short) is reluctant to go for what she thinks is one of those faults that doesn’t occur when at the garage. I suggested running the engine for a while before leaving but with a car parked on the street and school runs to deal with that is not always practical. Besides it should not be necessary in a new car? I am hoping you can advise that there is a remedy and so get my daughter to the garage before the fault results in an accident. JR, via email H.J. says ....There is an acknowledged issue with the Miller Cycle VAG 1.5TSI Evo engine: /news/owning-1/2019-01/volkswagen-acknowledges-problem-with-15-tsi-evo-engine/ Skoda started fitting this to the Kodiaq in place of the old 1.4TSI 150 last year. The 1.4TSI DGS had the old high torque DQ250 6-speed wet clutch DSG rather than the troublesome lightweight DQ200 7-speed dry clutch DSG, but the 1.5TSI may have the DQ381 7-speed wet clutch DSG. There’s another issue with VAG autos because of the stupid way the brake light switch interferes with being able to drive away, and a sticking brake light switch, rather than the 1.5TSI might be the reason for the problem.
HOW LONG WILL THE BATTERY LAST ON A USED EV?
Buying a second-hand electric car seems to be tricky. How do you know how long the battery will last? What other things would need looking at? Asked by Deadwoodward HJ says Most manufacturers offer fairly extensive warranties for their EV batteries. Nissan, for example, currently provides an eight-year, 100,000-mile warranty for the batteries on its Leaf. While batteries are expected to degrade over time, if they drop below 75 per cent of their original capacity in that time, Nissan will replace them. It’s unusual for batteries to suddenly fail, and electric cars have fewer moving parts than combustion-engined cars so are generally very reliable.

TALKING SPORT WITH THE TRALEE ADVERTISER EVERYTHING’S COMING UP ROSES!
with “The Voice” Pat Harnett
FAI NATIONAl P.R.O. OF THE YEAR IT SPORTS CAMPUS A WONDERFUL ADDITION TO THE SPORTING LANDSCAPE:
possible was a time where her opponents coach or indeed the referee should have thrown in the towel. The score-cards by all 5 judges at the end of the fight showed Mary ahead 30-24. Her success is a huge credit to the fighter herself but also to the coaches and all involved at the Tralee Boxing Club.
TRALEE SPORTSPERSONS TO THE FORE AGAIN: Once again a number of young Tralee sports stars are in the news for all the right reasons. Firstly it must be a wonderful feeling to be in a club when it all comes together on the biggest night of the year.
A QUARTER OF THE IRISH SQUAD ARE FROM TRALEE: When you are waiting for the announcement of an Irish squad it is usually to see if there will be one Kerry name on it. However when the 12 person Irish U18 men’s squad for this summer’s FIBA Men’s European Championship Division B taking place in Romania from July 26th to August 4th was named there were no less than 3 Tralee players on the squad. These are Daire Kennelly and Leeroy Odiahio (Tralee Imperials / Garvey’s Tralee Warriors and Mercy Mounthawk School) and Rapolas Buivydas (St Brendan’s / Garvey’s Tralee Warriors / Tralee CBS). Picking any squad is one of the most difficult tasks of any coach be it at local level or at international level as Head Coach Paul Kelliher said . “This was the toughest decision of my 13 years in selecting national squads. The increased strength in depth makes it very hard to cut players who had put in a lot of time in the process”. This is a further demonstration of the strength of basketball in Tralee from the National League down to the schools level where wonderful work is being done.
MARY’S HANDS RAISED IN TRIUMPH: Those involved in the Tralee Boxing Club again have had that feeling. And not for the first time a member of the club has had their hands held high in the ring after their All Ireland win. This time it was the very exciting young boxer Mary McDonagh. Mary who is now the Girl 1 57kg champion is a super puncher and won all three rounds when defeating Belfast’s Sarah Cowen. It was a fight that the Kerry girl totally dominated and there
SUZANNE AND JERRY ON THE TT PODIUM: The first round of the Kerry Time Trial League took place last Thursday night. This was one of three rounds on the short course – from Farranfore to just outside Tralee covering 10km. The other three rounds of the Time Trials will be on the longer course from the Iron Bridge to Castleisland and back. In the first round Killarney CC’s versatile Conor Kissane was the fastest in 15.16. The next quickest was Killorglins Barry Fitzgerald in 15.26 with Tralee BC’s Jerry
All those involved in the development of the Institute of Technology Tralee’s Kerry Sports Academy should be taking a wellearned rest this week after the state of the art facility was officially opened. The e19 million facilities ribbon was cut by Tanaiste Simon Coveney TD and will be the home of the Health and Leisure Programme at IT Tralee, the UNESCO Chair in Inclusive Physical Education, Sports-Fitness and Recreation, the National Centre for Adapted Physical Activity – CARA, Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eireann headquarters and the Kerry GAA. The complex was the largest ever sports capital project undertaken in the county with monies also coming from private sources and corporate donors. It includes an international sized indoor arena an a variety of fitness and teaching suites.

McCarthy clocking 15.39. In the Women’s section Tralee BC’s Suzanne O’Sullivan was the fastest in 17.53. This past Thursday night was the first round of the Kerry Road Race League while next Thursday it is the second round of the Hill Climb League on the road past Craig Cave in Castleisland. QUINN STOPS SIDES: North Kerry’s Mike Quinn is swopping the driver’s seat for the navigator’s one for two up-coming rallies. He will codrive for Eoin Duffin in the Circuit of Munster on the June Bank Holiday weekend and then in the Heartlands Rally in Laois. EXCITING TIMES AT THE TRACK: These are exciting times at the Kingdom Greyhound Stadium where on this Friday night there are the first round heats of the Kerry Group Club Championship A3 525 yards. On the following night the final of the Kingdom Novice 325 yards is the highlight with the final of the KGOBA Novice 750 yards also taking place. On Sunday night it’s the SIS eight race program starting at 6.35pm. The track is currently taking entries for the Navillus Race of Champions 550yds and the Track supporters club open novice 525 yards starting on June 1st. Call the racing office on 061 448057. Due to essential track maintenance there will be no unrecorded Trials on Wed May29th with Unrecorded trials as usual on Sat morning June 1st from 9 am to 12 noon. Kerry GAA Night of Champions: The annual Kerry GAA Night of Champions will take place at the Kingdom Greyhound Stadium on June 14th. The feature Race of Champions has a new sponsor in Navillus with the winner getting e15,000 from an overall prize fund of e21,000. The Kerry Group Club Sweepstake will also reach its finale on the night with all clubs hoping that the dog they are twinned with will earn them part of the e4000 prize fund. Buster tickets are also on sale while the attendance of the Kerry senior GAA players and management is always an exciting part of the night, STAYING WITH THE DOGS: BALLYMAC TAS 7/2 TO BE THE TOP BITCH IN THE ENGLISH GREYHOUND DERBY: There is not long to wait until the start of the 2019 English Greyhound Derby with a fantastic list of entries and a strong entry of 43 Irish runners taking part for the £100,000 winner’s prize. BoyleSports have priced up plenty of Irish specials that include the
‘Top Bitch’ market. Ballymac Tas has taken the favouritism spot here at 7/2 after her excellent efforts in the Con and Annie Kirby Memorial in Limerick last month. Akelawre is a nice price at 9/2 for the in-form trainer Liam Dowling with his star showing his ability back in February around Shelbourne Park when he beat the BoyleSports Irish Greyhound Derby runner up Magical Bale by three lengths in 29.32 over 550 yards. It was a super performance and he is not without a chance. Top Bitch: 7/2 Ballymac Tas, 9/2 Queen Beyonce, 6/1 Geelo Blissful, 7/1 Oi Oi Upenalty, 10/1 Antigua Vows and 12/1 bar. HOW FAR CAN YOU HIT IT? One of the traditional parts of hurling The Poc Fada will take place on the Kerryhead course in June. First up are the Kerry championships for senior and u16’s which take place on June 3rd at 1pm. Kerry also has the honour of hosting for the first time the Munster POC Fada competition which will take place on the same course in Ballyheigue on June 15th. NO LUCK ON THE CREASE FOR KERRY SIDES: Last weekend was one to forget for Kerry’s cricketing sides. The Kerry 2nds went down to Limerick in the Munster Cricket Junior Cup. Limerick 2nds hit 320 for 8 with Kerry all out for 190. In the Munster Premier Division Cork County 1st were too strong for the top Kerry side. Cork ended their innings on 297 for 6 and then their bowlers had the measure of the Kerry batting line-up getting them all out for 145. The Kerry 3rd also had a day to forget as they could only post 82 which Cork Harlequins reached for the loss of only three wickets. The draw for the Irish National Cup didn’t favour Kerry either and they welcome Ballbriggan 1ST to the Oyster Oval this Saturday. In a busy weekend on Sunday in the Munster Cricket Division 3 Kerry are away to Waterford in Carrigmore while the Kerry 2nds are at home to Limerick Blasters. On Tuesday at the Oyster Oval the MCC will visit for a friendly which begins at 1pm. TRALEE’S ORLA TOP AT ATHLETIC MEET: The Munster Track and Field Championships took place at CIT last weekend and Orla O’Reilly from Mercy Mounthawk brought

TALKING SPORT WITH THE TRALEE ADVERTISER home two gold medals. She took the win in the Senior girls 100m and 200m. Amongst the other Tralee winners were Niamh O’Mahony from Presentation Tralee in the Intermediate 3000m, Mervyn Shalmba from Mercy Mounthawk in the Intermediate 100m and Aine O’Shea from the same school in the Junior Girls discus. In the relays Mounthawk were 3rd in the Minor girls 4 x 100m, 1st in the Senior Girls 4 x 100m and 1st in the Senior girls 4 x 300m. The boys from the school were 1st in the senior 4 x 100m and second in the 4 x 400m. The National League also got underway in Templemore with Kerry being represented in the Premier Men and Divison 1 women. The next round is on June 30th in Athlone. NO JOY FOR TRALEE SIDES: Tralee Dynamos will probably be a little disappointed with the way the Greyhound Bar Cup final went as Killarney Celtic took the win 5-0. However in the context of the rebuilding plan for the club this was another step along the way. The side was a mix of youth and experience and now they can focus on getting a squad together to battle for a top three position in the Premier Division next season. On the Schoolboys side their u12’s also lost out in their Cup final to Killarney opposition. In the final of the John Murphy 12’s Cup Killarney Athletic won 2-1 after extra time in a cracking game played in front of a big crowd at Mounthawk Park. Billy Stack and his management team and players can be very happy with their efforts and only went down to a kick of the ball. The Park lost out to the Denny Division 1B League Final going down 3-1 to Castlegregory despite Alfie Christie getting a contender for Goal of the Season. KERRY 13’S LEAGUE OF IRELAND NARROW LOSS TO CORK: Cork came to Tralee last weekend in the 13’s League of Ireland unbeaten in 7 games and top of the table. They also defeated Kerry easily in the reverse fixture in Cork. But on this occasion the home side put in the performance of the season going down 2-1 to a late goal. Oisin Healy got Kerry level and it did look like they would hold on for a point but overall their performance was the most important thing on the day. The Kerry 15’s lost out away to Cork but are still in line for a top three spot and qualification for the top section of the second phase. Both Kerry underage League sides take on Cobh Ramblers this Saturday with the 13’s at home. The Kerry 17’s and 19’s are away to Waterford in a double header this weekend with both sides coming off losses to UCD.
FINAL TIME IN COMMUNITY GAMES: As we head towards the height of the summer Kerry athletes are looking to win their county titles and qualify for the Munster and National finals. From a Tralee point of view last weekend in the Girls soccer u12’s and u15’s the younger age section was won by Abbeydorney / Kilflynn with Spa Fenit Barrow in third. Their 15’s were 2nd in the u15’s. In Judo u10’s Aoife O’Connell (St Brendan’s Oakpark) won the 32kg title from Clodagh Culloty of Boherbee / Cloughers / Manor. Helin Ozalan from St Brendan’s Oakpark won the 36kg Girls category from her club mate Dionne Rogers. In the u12’s Aobh Culloty is the County Champion with the Boherbee/Cloghers/Manor athlete seeing of Aisling O’Connell from St Brendan’s /Oakpark. In the County Finals of the Girls u14’s Ballymacelligott took the win and in the Spikeball County finals in the Boys Spa Fenit / Barrow took the win. I must also mention that in the County final of the Pitch and Putt which took place on the Tralee course my nephew Robbie Harnett took the title!!. The national finals begin in UL next weekend and we wish all the Kerry athletes taking part in all the disciplines the very best of luck. KERRY MINORS When you are reading this hope that we are celebrating the continuing success of the Kerry minor team. They took on Clare on Thursday night with a place in the Munster Final secured, baring a disaster. The minors now under James Costello are on a quest for a 6th All Ireland decider. PARNELLS NEWS: Tickets for the Launch Party will take place on May 25th in the Ashe Hotel and tickets are now on sale where the clubs achievements will be celebrated. A commemorative programme will also be on sale on the night. The adult men celebrated their first win in this year’s South Kerry Hurling League where the defeated Duagh. There was a disappointing loss for the Intermediate side in the ¼ final of the North Kerry Championship going down to Ladys Walk. The Parnells u14’s went down to in the last round of the County League but they have already qualified for the semi-finals. In the u14 Camogie the girls faced Killarney in the County B final. There was only 2 points between the sides with Killarney taking the win. The

u11’s were in Abbeydorney where they played two games in the North Kerry League. They beat their hosts in the first game but just lost out to St Brendan’s in the second game. The u10 boys enjoyed their day at the Firies Blitz while the u6’s and u8’s took on Crotta and Lixnaw in two enjoyable games. CAMOGIE NEWS: Kerry will face Cork in the Munster Junior Camogie Championship Final at Cashel on Saturday, 25 May at 2pm. Referee will be John Lillis of Tipperary. This will be followed by Senior Final between Cork and Tipperary at 4pm. Austin Stacks Juvenile News: Members are reminded that the Kellogg’s GAA Cul Camps takes place in Connolly Park from July 1st to 5th with bookings now open. The u6’s train as normal this week as do the u8’s who will also have a blitz in mid-week. The u10’a enjoyed their Go Games action in Connolly Park. The u14’s A and B teams are in action against Rathmore while the Division 9 side are away to Waterville. The u14’s are celebrating their win in the County League defeating Keel / Listry. They will kick off their County Championship this week. The clubs 9-a-side team played their first round game against Na Gael this week. BALLYMAC NEWS: The Seniors are due to play the next round of the Senior Football League this weekend away to Beaufort. The B team had a great win in the 1st round of the Junior League defeating St Michael’s Foilmore. The u14’s were crowned Division 3 County Champions when they defeated Firies 5-10 to 3-11. The boys were delighted to win this title especially with the game played in Austin Stack Park. The u16’s took on Ardfert in the Division 1 Central Region but unfortunately went down 1-06 to 1-14. The u12’s will have two teams in the County League with the Blue team in Division 1A and the Gold team in Division 1B. The u10’s train as normal and enjoyed their Go Games at home in mid-week. The u8’s and u10’s also train as normal and have their Go Games as well. The u17’s are looking forward to the 7-a-side Club competition (I thought that was a soccer format!!) which will begin against Gneeveguilla. In the Ladies Dingle defeated the girls 2-10 to 1-04 but there was better news when they saw off Ballyduff 2-08 to 1-02. The u16 girls lost out to Southern Gaels while the u14’s drew with Milltown Listry but went down to a stronger St Pats team. The u12 Girls had a big win over Churchill. Lotto: There was no winner from the numbers drawn 10, 12, 17 and 21 and the next jackpot will be e2900.

KERINS O’RAHILLYS The County League begins this week with Round 4. The Seniors travel to Dingle after winning their appeal over their game with Rathmore which was originally deemed as a draw. The Senior B team will be hoping to get back to winning ways after going down to a slick Scartaglin side last time out. It won’t be easy though as we must also travel to Dingle with the game scheduled to throw-in at 2pm on Sunday next. The club will take part in the u17 9-a-side competition which began this week. In the Juvenile Academy there was another great turn-out with John Mitchels visiting. The Players of the Week were U6 Boys – Will Hussey, U6 Girls - Ellie Mai O’ConnorCahill. The underage girl’s teams train as normal this week with the u16’s waiting for their semi-final fixture against Dr Crokes.
