KERRY SKIN CLINIC
ECZEMA IN CHILDREN BY DR DAVID BUCKLEY One in four children will suffer from eczema. The most common type of eczema in children is atopic eczema which is sometimes linked with asthma, hay fever and other allergies in the child or in the child’s family. Atopic eczema is an extremely itchy condition and the child can often be quite miserable as the itch can affect their sleep making them very irritable. Their skin is always dry and the rash is usually most pronounced in the folds of skin such as the front of the elbows, the backs of the knees and around the neck. However, eczema can affect any part if the body. Most kids with atopic eczema will have mild to moderate disease and should outgrow their eczema by the time they go to school. The basic underlying problem is dry, sensitive skin. Therefore, these children need copious amounts of greasy moisturisers that are free of fragrances, colourings or preservatives. The greasier the moisturiser the better.
These children should also avoid all soaps and other irritants such as bubble baths, shampoos and detergents. They should wash with a soap free wash and use bath oil suitable for eczema. Some children with atopic eczema may need a weak topical steroids such as 1% hydrocortisone cream or ointment, to be applied to the itchy areas once at night to relieve itch. More moderate severity eczema may require slightly more potent topical steroids which are normally only available on prescription from your doctor. Severe, unresponsive cases of atopic eczema may need to see a skin and allergy specialist as they may need more potent treatment such as “Protopic” ointment and may need allergy testing to see if they have any underlying allergies such as food allergies that may be aggravating their eczema. Other skin conditions such as scabies, seborrhoeic dermatitis, urticaria and dermatitis herpetiformis should be checked for in a child with persistent, unresponsive itch.

WHATS DIFFERENT ABOUT BROOKFIELD?
Elisha "This year , we celebrate working with students for 31 years , since 1988 " says Principal Elisha Dowling . "I like to emphasise the word 'with' as it conveys the approach we take with all students who come here ...We have created an atmosphere in the College where students are expected and encouraged to perform to the best of their ability. The most important part of this equation (yes , Elisha also teaches Maths!) has to be our teachers .At present we have 15 teachers in the school , all highly qualified teachers who are motivated and enthusiastic about teaching ...They just love teaching ...and that does come out in the students! And because there is rarely any changeover of teachers , that gives our students consistency ..very important in the exam years . We dont have uniforms and teachers are known on a first name basis... this all fosters maturity amongst the students. All our students are given regular assessments and each is assigned a tutor who meets with them several times during the year , discussing progress and giving both advice and guidance.Career guidance also gets priority during the Senior Cycle as we find it answers a lot of questions that students may have and gives them clarification. Its very satisfying to hear, maybe even a few years after they've gone that former students have found their time with us to be hugely positive... thats enough for me "

JUST SOME OF OUR REVIEWS ........................................... We were enormously impressed not only by the quality of the teaching but also by the very obvious commitment you have to fulfil each students potential. (Parents review)
Very structured way of teaching and makes sure everyone gets what they're capable of achieving.

WHAT’S HAPPENING IN TRALEE.. STARCAMP 2019 launch was Spellbinding Be under no illusion, the official launch of STARCAMP 2019 was pure magic!
Keith Barry was on hand at the weekend to remind children of the Starcamp ethos, “Believe in yourself and you can achieve anything!” As STARCAMP kicks off their biggest and best Summer camp line up to date, they have teamed up with the renowned mind magician to send out a national reminder to parents everywhere that the use of the imagination, courage and self-esteem are incredibly positive tools for children for life. “Children simply need to play, pretend, dream and be happy in a safe environment, where they are encouraged and praised” said Aideen O’ Grady, Starcamp Director.
“Starcamp is for everyone, not just the born performers” Keith Barry says. With over 40% boys now in attendance, it truly is a camp with broad appeal and its’ benefits are reaching boys and girls everywhere. Parents who had concerns about their child enjoying it have been mesmerized by the impact. The growth and number of return children annually prove this, along with the thousands of testimonials received over the past 12 years. STARCAMP 2019, as always will include singing, hiphop, acting, arts & crafts, confidence building, newsreporting, camp games, superheroes, star olympics, surprises galore – but there will be a special focus this year on Magic, the use of the imagination and…. Comedy! Staff at Starcamp HQ work all year round to ensure the most wondrous experience possible for all who attend.
A little insight into this years’ line up shows Toy Story 4, The Lion King, Mary Poppins and David Walliams’ Gangsta’ Granny for the older kids. Starcamp was a memorable winner on Dragon’s Den, has won numerous awards and is widely recognised for leading the way in what it does. With a number of camps already booked out, don’t delay in securing your place. Every child receives a Starcamp t-shirt, cert and lots more! Starcamp will run in over 220 towns nationwide for a week at a time. The camp runs for 5 days from 9:30 – 2:30pm and children aged 4-12 will
be sub divided into their own age groups for advancing programs. For a limited time, they offer an instalment option whereby €20 will secure your place. Killarney 8-12 July, Kenmare 29 July – 2nd August, Listowel 6-10 August, Tralee 1-5 July, Castleisland 12-16 August. BOOK YOUR LIMITED PLACE NOW AT WWW.STARCAMP. IE OR CALL 021-4377900. HELLO BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE! I HOPE YOU’RE HAVING AN AMAZING WEEK! I hope you’re all having an amazing week! I’m home two weeks today. WOW. Time flies when you’re having fun eh? I’m getting back into the swing of things being home, taking makeup appointments and starting to restock my kit again! Speaking of restocking my kit - I’ve really been missing the fact I could shop in MECCA & Sephora in Sydney. I’m telling you, if I win the Euromillions 130 million jackpot tonight, one of the first things I would do is open a giant makeup shop in Tralee. With ALL the brands. Let’s hope so yeah? Anyway… so since many of the makeup brands I use aren’t available in store in Tralee, I’ve been using online shopping, which brings me to an exciting point… I was in Boots Tralee recently and I was chatting to one of the girls, guess what she told me? It turns out boots.ie has a service where you can order brands that aren’t available in store, and get them delivered to Tralee… FOR FREE. (And the next day if you order before 12)! What brands are available… wait…. TOO FACED, BECCA COSMETICS, FENTY BEAUTY, IT COSMETICS & a lot more! Which is amazing! Especially for me when I need to restock my kit frequently with CRUELTY FREE makeup products (which those brands I just mentioned are). Also, Boots has changed their logo for pride month - fair play.
I just ordered two shades of my current favourite foundation, Too Faced Born This Way, in shades Warm Beige (with tan) & Light Beige (without). I’ve used the ‘Warm Beige’ shade before but to find the lighter shade, I used the site findation.com. They will be available to collect in store tomorrow… IDEAL! It’s just so handy for me as there’s no delivery charges, and I can collect it in the middle of town. Hopefully Tralee will have Sephora soon (IMAGINE). Other than that, I just want to remind you all again if you’ve a special event coming up that I am in Tralee doing makeup full time, you can message me on Facebook ‘Rebecca Shortt Makeup’, Instagram ‘@makeupbyrebeccashortt’ or email rebeccashorttmakeup@gmail.com to book. Last night I also uploaded a new video to my YouTube channel on how to clean makeup brushes, it’s so so important to deep clean your brushes at least once per month (more if you wear makeup very frequently). You can watch that video on YouTube, but I just want to tell you my favourite product for cleaning my brushes. The Blank Canvas Cosmetics Brush Cleaner. It’s €15 and you can pick it up in CH Tralee. It’s the best product I’ve found for cleaning brushes and it’s straightforward to use. So this weekend, for me, PLEASE clean your makeup brushes!!!!
Also, if you want to be more interactive, Subscribe to my YouTube Channel ‘Rebecca Shortt’ - we’re at 205 subscribers as of today and I put up at least 1 video a week! Thank you all for your continued support, you may not be aware but I put my integrity first always when it comes to what I do, I will not be driven by money or ever recommend ANYTHING that I don’t think is worth it. My Brand Value (staying true to myself and what I believe in) is waaaaaay more important to me than a quick buck, or getting free products etc etc. I hope you all realise that I just do this because it’s my passion, I want to help people and have fun along the way. Anyway, have an amazing week! BYEEEEEEEE X

FITNESS!
HELLO STRONG PEOPLE I hope you are all having a fantastic week! I’m home two weeks, and I AM SO EXCITED TO GET BACK INTO THE GYM. You have no idea. I just have an urge to exercise 5 days a week and track macros again... yes you read that correctly. The last time I did that consistently was, honestly? Before I went to Australia... Yes I’ve done it on and off since then, exercising a few days, making sure my steps were up, tracking my calories. But consistently strength train and track macros for longer than a month... nah. I can see it, I’m not unhappy with my body, but it was definitely stronger and more lean before, and I want to work towards that again.
BALANCE
You don’t have to be in a calorie deficit the whole time, you don’t have to have all your focus on the gym constantly... life happens. Enjoy it, the main focus while I was traveling wasn’t exercising 5 days a week and being consistent with macros, so I didn’t stress about it. And I know it’s not that easy for some people,
but I’ve worked hard on my mentality and relationship with food and exercise to get to this point.
membership - IMAGINE. I think it’s important to support local businesses, especially new ones. It’s a risk to open a busi- ness, it takes a goal/dream/vision, and I have huge respect for that. Of course there are lots of other gyms in Tralee that I have gone to over the years, I don’t specifically work with any of them. There is a gym for everyone, it honestly depends on what you want from a gym! What type of Fitness page would this be if I didn’t try them all!
But now? I AM SO READY. I just want that consistency right now. And you know what makes it better? The Arena Tralee is opening Monday!!!! I’ve been so excited to join this gym, a fresh start, a brand new gym with an enthusiastic team. I’m not affiliated or working with The Arena Tralee or anything, I’m just genuinely excited. They’re having an open day Sunday from 12-3 and I’m hoping to win a
I’ll be back next week to let you know how I get on with everything next week. Have a good one!

Creatures of the Sea!
Crab... They are so delicious and plentiful all along our wild Atlantic coast line. Their beautiful sweetness is simply divine and is a memorable taste .Here is a lovely dish of crab whose taste will remain in your memory long long afterwards.
BUTTERY CRAB CASSEROLES
Serves 4
INGREDIENTS • • • • • • • • •
3 (2-pound) live brown crab 1/2 cup (4 ounces) plus 1 tablespoon unsalted pure Irish butter, divided 1/2 cup finely chopped scallions (from 3 scallions) 1/2 cup finely chopped celery leaves (from 1 celery stalk) 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice 3/4 teaspoon fine sea salt, divided 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground white pepper Pinch of cayenne pepper 1 1/2 cups fresh breadcrumbs
METHOD Fit a steamer basket inside a large pot. Fill pot with water until water line is just below bottom of steamer basket. Bring to a rapid boil over high. Place crabs in steamer basket. Cover pot, and reduce heat to medium-high; steam crabs 18 minutes. Meanwhile, fill a large bowl with ice water. Remove steamed crabs from pot, and plunge into ice water; let stand 10 minutes. Working with 1 crab at a time, remove from ice water. Remove crabmeat from shells; transfer crabmeat to a bowl, and discard crab shells. (Crabmeat should yield about 1 pound.) Preheat oven to 125c Melt 1/2 cup butter in a medium pan over medium. Add scallions and celery leaves; cook, stirring occasionally, until tender, 3 to 5 minutes. Using a slotted spoon, remove mixture from pan; transfer to a plate. Add lemon juice, 1/2 teaspoon salt, white pepper, and cayenne pepper to pan. Bring to a simmer over medium-high; cook, undisturbed, until slightly reduced, about 2 minutes. Add crabmeat; cook, stirring gently, until warmed through, about 2 minutes. Remove from heat. Transfer crabmeat mixture to 4 (12-ounce) baking dishes or 1 (2-quart) baking dish; sprinkle with scallion mixture. Melt remaining 1 tablespoon butter in pan over medium. Add breadcrumbs and remaining 1/4 teaspoon salt; cook, stirring often, until breadcrumbs are well coated with butter and slightly browned, 4 to 5 minutes. Sprinkle breadcrumbs over crabmeat mixture. Transfer baking dishes to preheated oven; bake until crab casseroles just begin to bubble around edges, about 20 minutes. Serve hot with tossed salad.

Pizza Shack now opened at Gregorys Garden in Castlegregory! Nothing stands still in Gregorys Garden in Castlegregory ...if its not the fresh organic vegetables growing in the garden behind the restaurant or the ‘new ‘friendly faces added to Greg’s enthusiastic staff or Greg tinkering with the already sublime taste sensations on the menu (he’s just added a wonderful Brunch menu option for the weekends ...perfect for lazing in Castle on a Saturday or Sunday) ...and now he’s gone and done it again ...Owner and Masterchef Greg O Mahony has literally built a traditional Neapolitan style Wood fired Pizza Shack in his garden serving what can only be described as the tastiest Pizzas you will ever try ! Whats the secret ? is it the Wood fired Pizza Oven imported directly from Naples that cooks Pizza at over 450 degrees in about 90 seconds ? or maybe the ‘72 hour’ Sourdough base that is so so light or the combination of ingredients that Greg puts together to serve up some fantastic variations? Possibly all of the above ...and yet they suit the pocket as well as the pallet ..

WHAT’S HAPPENING IN TRALEE.. Tralee ‘dug deep’ for Austin Stack Park, now lets do it for our Festivals 60th Birthday! LEGENDARY Irish band, Aslan will perform at a FREE concert during the Rose of Tralee International Festival which runs from Friday 23rd to Tuesday 27th 2019. The gig will form the centrepiece of a 60th Anniversary Party on Denny Street on Sunday 25th August along with a Celebration Street Disco featuring hits from the six decades of Ireland’s flagship family fun festival. The Hot House Flowers, another legendary Irish group, will perform at a FREE gig on Denny Street on the opening night of the Festival, Friday 23rd August and Country Star, Derek Ryan will play for FREE on Tuesday 27th August. Details of this year’s street entertainment, which will cost in the region of €350,000, were announced at a breakfast event at The Rose Hotel, attended by the Rose of Tralee, Kirsten Mate Maher,
and many long-standing local sponsors and supporters of the Festival. The Rose of Tralee International Festival harnesses the pride and the strength of the global Irish family and Tralee will again become the theatre for their celebration this August with three parades, two fireworks displays, live music, street performers, marching bands, floats, markets, Birds Funfair and much more. The Executive Chair of the Rose of Tralee International Festival, Anthony O’Gara, said: “As we approach our 60 Year Celebrations of the Rose of Tralee, we want to say a special thank you to some exceptional local people and organisations who show generosity beyond the norm in support of the Festival. “The Streets Festival in Tralee is a very important element of our celebration. It is a major

undertaking involving five days of live family friendly entertainment, including multiple parades, firework displays, carnival, circus, concerts and much more. The budget required is around €350,000. “We couldn’t possibly consider staging such a challenging event without the support we receive from some very caring people and organisations, to whom we are most grateful.” In 2018 the business community in Tralee contributed €65,000, which is less than 20% of the Streets Budget. Everyone works very hard to carry out the remit to stage a family fun festival with free entertainment and great variety, but such an undertaking cannot be sustained unless everyone plays a part. “We work very hard to carry out our remit, but we do not have the resources to continue on the current basis and we
need a major increase in the business contribution,” said Anthony O’Gara. Contributions towards this year’s Rose of Tralee Street Festival may be made by cash or cheque, payable to Kerry Rose Festival Ltd, Ashe Memorial Hall, Denny Street, Tralee, Co Kerry. Bank Transfers can be made to Bank of Ireland, IBAN: IE95BOFI90583811504060, BIC: BOFIIE2D. The Rose of Tralee International Festival will celebrate 60 Years from Friday 23rd to Tuesday 27th August 2019 and the new Rose of Tralee will be crowned live on RTÉ on the final night. Tickets to Dome events including the Rose Ball, TV Selections, Fashion Show and Club 60 are available from www.roseoftralee.ie.
Ballyfinnane Playground The Official opening of Ballyfinane Community Playground will take place on Friday June 14th. Mass will be celebrated at 12 noon followed by the official opening. Refreshments will be served in the Hall. All are welcome.

KNOW YOUR RIGHTS: STATE PENSION (CONTRIBUTORY)
Muscle rub Back in Stock NOW!
Question I will be retiring soon. I spent many years working and I have also spent time raising and caring for my family. Can I qualify for the State Pension (Contributory)? Answer The State Pension (Contributory) (SPC) is paid from the age of 66 to people who have worked and have enough social insurance contributions. Recent changes introduced a new method to calculate the rate of SPC paid to a person who reaches pension age on or after 1 September 2012. The new method can help people who have spent time out of the workforce caring to qualify for an SPC. Firstly, you must be aged 66 or over and have enough Class A, E, F,G, H, N or S social insurance contributions, you must have started to pay social insurance in Ireland before the age of 56 and you must have 520 full-rate contributions (10 years of contributions). Then, provided you reached pension age on or after 1 September 2012, you can have your contributions assessed using the new Total Contributions Approach (TCA) and can avail of a new HomeCaring Periods Scheme. The TCA counts the total number of contributions you have paid. If you have 2,080 or more contributions (40 years of employment) you will qualify for the maximum personal rate of SPC. If you have fewer than 2,080 contributions, you can use up to 1,040 Home Caring Periods (20 years) and up to 520 credited contributions (10 years), to help you qualify for an SPC. Your combined Home Caring Periods and credited contributions cannot be more than 1,040 (20 years). If you reached pension age on or after 1 September 2012, your entitlement to a pension will be calculated using both the current yearly averaging system and the new TCA calculation. If you are entitled to a SPC, the rate of pension you get will be based on whichever calculation is best for you. You can get a State Pension (Contributory) form from your local post office and your Intreo Centre or Social Welfare Branch Office.

LAUGHTER ....THE BEST MEDICINE ! BOB WAS IN TROUBLE
Bob forgot his wedding anniversary and his wife was really pissed. She told him, “Tomorrow morning, I want to see a gift in the driveway that goes from 0 to 200 in 6 seconds AND IT BETTER BE THERE!” The next morning he got up early and left for work. When his wife woke up, she looked out the window and sure enough there was a box gift-wrapped in the middle of the driveway. Confused, the wife put on her robe and ran out to the driveway, brought the box back in the house. She opened it and found a brand new bathroom scale.
A MAGICIAN WAS WORKING ON A CRUISE SHIP IN THE Caribbean. The audience would be different each week, so the magician allowed himself to do the same tricks over and over again. There was only one problem, the captain’s parrot saw the shows every week and began to understand what the magician did in every trick. Once he understood that, he started shouting in the middle of the show: “Look, it’s not the same hat!” “Look, he’s hiding the flowers under the table!” “Hey, why are all the cards the Ace of Spades ?” The magician was furious but couldn’t do anything; it was the captain’s parrot, after all. One day the ship had an accident and sunk. The magician found himself on a piece of wood in the middle of the ocean, and of course the parrot was by his side. They stared at each other with hate, but did not utter a word. This went on for several days. After a week the parrot finally said: “Okay, I give up. What’d you do with the boat?”
WAIT A MINUTE! YOU HAVE BEEN CHEATING ON ME ALL THIS TIME!”
my wife yelled at me as she found all the letters I had been hiding. I felt cornered and prepared myself to face her fury, as she got red with anger and started walking towards me. She looked straight into my eyes and gave me a killer look I could never forget. And kids, that’s the last time I played scrabble with her!
SIX GUYS WERE PLAYING POKER WHEN SMITH LOSES €500 ON A SINGLE HAND, CLUTCHES HIS CHEST AND DROPS DEAD AT THE TABLE. Showing respect for their fallen comrade, the other five complete their playing time standing up. Sam looks around and asks, “Now, who is going to tell the wife?” They draw straws. Lester, who is always a loser, picks the short one. They tell him to be discreet, be gentle, don’t make a bad situation any worse than it is. “Gentlemen! Discreet? I’m the most discreet man you will ever meet. Discretion is my middle name--leave it to me.” Lester walks over to the Smith house, knocks on the door, the wife answers, asks what he wants. Lester says, “Your husband just lost €500 playing cards.” She hollers, “TELL HIM TO DROP DEAD!” Lester replies, “I’ll tell him.”

TORQUING CARS! AUDI A4 TO COME WITH MILD HYBRID TECH
AUDI’S revised A4 will arrive in the autumn, bolstered by the addition of mild-hybrid technology on some models. The TFSI petrol motor will have a 12-volt mild-hybrid (MHEV) from launch and two others will follow soon after. The company is also majoring on connectivity: there’s a large MMI touch display claimed to mirror smartphone functions. The free-standing touchscreen has acoustic feedback and replaces the current rotary/push-button control. I’m looking forward to testing Audi’s claim that “the natural-language voice control understands many of the phrases used in everyday speech” LED headlights are standard across both SE and S line trim levels. There are myriad driver assist systems; a ‘Tour’ package, for example, has adaptive cruise control. There will be six turbocharged engines at launch (from 136hp to 354hp); they range from the A4 30 TDI to the S4 TDI. Audi claims the mild-hybrid system cuts fuel consumption by up to 0.3 litres/100kms. Transmissions include manual, 7spd S tronic and 8spd Tiptronic, with a choice of front-wheel or quattro drive. In reality, all models will have automatic transmissions of some sort, the only exception being the entry-level TFSI petrol. No word yet on price.

CAR ADVICE WITH HONEST JOHN – YOUR QUESTIONS ANSWERED What used car do you recommend for a 150 mile daily commute? I travel 150 miles a day, up to four days a week and need a comfortable, highly economical car at an affordable price. My thinking is to get something about three years old, with about 30,000 miles on the clock, at about €15,000, and then I won’t really have the mileage anxiety of a PCP based upon a fixed rate of miles of a new car. What car will suit me? Adam H.J. says ... We’d be looking for a Kia Optima. The 1.7-litre diesel engine is very frugal and you’ll get a year-old example for €15k. It will have the remainder of its seven-year warranty left and it’s a very comfortable, well-equipped car for covering high miles. A Skoda Superb would be another good choice or if you’d prefer something a bit smaller, a Honda Civic. You’ll get the latest shape example of the latter with the excellent 1.6 i-DTEC diesel engine.

FAI NATIONAl P.R.O. OF THE YEAR NO HOLIDAYS ON THE SPORTING FIELDS: Before we start our regular column on my behalf and on behalf of all at the Tralee Advertiser I would like to wish all the students in Tralee who are doing exams at the moment all the best of luck. Many of these will be taking a break from sports for a few weeks but remember you still need a break away from the books at some stages. While these exams are very important they are just a step in your career and there are many way of getting to where you want to go academically. All you can do is the same as you would do for a big final in your chosen sport – you have prepared well so just go out and smash it. And if it doesn’t go your way when the results come out don’t give up. Like in sport there will always be the next ‘game’!! KERRY SQUAD HEADING FOR KENNEDY CUP ON TUESDAY: With the Kerry U13 girls soccer team back from their Gaynor Tournament in UL and the 15’s girls getting ready for their tournament starting on June 27th the attention turns to the boys and the always eagerly awaited Subway SFAI Kennedy Cup. Even with the advent of the u13’s League of Ireland the Kennedy Cup still remains a huge part in the development of these young players. 32 Leagues will be in the UL in Limerick from Tuesday to Saturday this year – it used to be Monday to Friday but with the Republic of Ireland playing Gibraltar on Monday night in the Aviva the tournament cannot start until Tuesday. The other change this year is that South Dublin Schoolboys League were unable to enter a team as they did not have enough clubs at this age group as they have lost many to the DDSL. So the SFAI have invited South Belfast in as the 32nd League. Kerry will open their tournament on Tuesday June 11th with a 6pm kick-off against Limerick County. The following day they will have two games firstly against Clare at 12.30 and then hopefully a table topper against Kildare at 6pm. Where they finish in their Group games will depend which competition they contest for the rest of the tournament with the

finals of the Cup, Bowl, Shield and Trophy set for Saturday. After a tough selection process through the ETP and challenge games a final squad of 20 was selected with players representing 10 clubs. Tralee’s St Brendan’s Park will be represented by Obina Tswakayi, Odhran Ferris (Captain), Ray McGrath and Richard Healy while Tralee Dynamos Alex Hoare is also on the squad. The rest of the squad is made up of Killarney Celtic’s Kalvin O’Sullivan, Luke O’Neill, Shay O’Meara and Timothy Moynihan, Listowel Celtic players Cormac Dillon, Shane Horgan. Iveragh United’s Donagh O’Sullivan, Oisin Breen (Vice Captain) with Sean Treyvaud and Yago Cornide from Inter Kenmare, Killarney Athletic’s Alex Hennigan and Maidchi Lynch, Mastergeeha’s Hugh Lenihan and from Killorglin John Burke with Sam Buckley from MEK United. The squad is being managed by Robin O’Day with Tralee Dynamos Noel White as his assistant and Ken O’Connor as the Head of Delegation. The physios will be Phil Bates and Stefan McMahon with Paul White and Robin O’Day also helping out while the coaches are also grateful for the work done by Joby Costello and JP Mullins in the build-up to the tournament. The coaches are happy with the way the preparations have gone and the way the squad has bonded. From an initial 28 the tough task was to decide on the final 20 but once that call was made in late February the work began. The squad has played nearly 20 warm-up games as well as minitournaments in Clare an in UL. But like all tournaments while the planning is vital the proof of how successful that has been won’t be known until Tuesday evening next when the 2019 Kennedy Cup kicks off. The first game is a vital one to get something from but at the end of the day the most important thing come Saturday is that the players, the management and the League can say they have done everything to the best of their ability and the results will take care of themselves. GARY SET FOR MOVE ACROSS THE CITY FROM UCD TO TALLAGHT: Tralee native Gary O’Neill is set to move from UCD to title chasing Shamrock Rovers. Gary who had a successful spell in England has had a great few years with the College including captaining them to promotion to the Premier Division last season. Having finished his Friday 7th June 2019
KERRY LEAGUE OF IRELAND SIDES AWAIT PHASE 2 OPPONENTS: The Kerry under 15’s ended Phase 1 of the League of Ireland with the highest place achieved in their three seasons in the League. They defeated Athlone at Mounthawk Park to finish 3rd in the League and earn a place in the Top 12- which will now be divided into two groups of 6 with ten games to find the two League finalists. The only goal of the game came from Cianan Cooney and it sees Kerry finish behind Cork and Galway but 5 points clear of Athlone who were in 4th. The 13’s finished Phase 1 in 5th as their loss to Athlone saw them drop behind their opponents following a 5-2 defeat. The game was tight for much of the 70 minutes with JJ Olijitan and Andrew Keirns scoring to leave the sides tied at 2-2. However a late flourish saw Athlone score three times to win 5-2. Both the 13’s and 15’s will be awaiting notification from the League of Ireland as to the makeup of their Phase 2 opponents which will kick-off in a few weeks with the Cup competitions also part of the section of the season. CRACKING TIME SET BY TOM IN TIME TRIAL: Kerry teenager Tom Moriarty, who rides with the O’Leary Stone Kanturk team, once again showed his class by winning Round 2 of the Kerry Time Trial League. The 16 year old clocked a cracking time of 26.32 breaking the old Junior record of now professional Eddie Dunbar of 26.54. Richard Cleverly posted a PB of 27.03, taking 20 plus seconds off his previous best, to take second. The M50 category was one of the contests of the night. Tom Gentleman broke that record lowering it to 27.56 from 28.21. However the next rider on the road Jerry McCarthy lowered the record again clocking 27.45. Paudie O’Sullivan was the fastest A3 with Joe Roche the quickest A4. Lisa Stapelbroek clocked the fastest Ladies time on the night of 33.46. In the overall standings Jerry McCarthy leads after two rounds from Conor Kissane and Tom Moriarty. Last night is was back to the Hill Climb with Round 2 of the League on the Castleisland course. SEAN INTO NATIONAL FINAL: Kerry boxer Sean Walsh has qualified for the All Ireland 75kg final. He defeated Paul Mahon in his semi-final to qualify for next weekend’s decider. There was heartbreak
for Jordan Goggin in his quarter final when he lost a very tight split decision to Patrick Donovan from Olympic in the Junior 1 60Kkg category. This was a very tough call for a boxer who has not had many breaks over the years. KERRY CREWS ENJOY THE CIRCUIT OF MUNSTER RALLY: The action this week was at the Lyons of Limerick Circuit of Munster rally hosted by the Limerick Motor Club. The crews tackled 120 stage kms and from a Kerry point of view there was a win in the Junior category for Kieran Reen who had Cork’s Mark O’Leary beside him in the Honda Civic. In the 16A Cup category Alan O’Sullivan and Dean Slattery were 3rd in the Civic with Colin O’Donoghue 4th in the Ford Escort. Eddie Doherty from Kilkenny was on the notes. In the main section of the rally Killarney’s Brian Doherty was the top finisher in 17th calling the notes for Paul Rowley who was home from the US for this rally, They were 3rd in Class 5. Kevin and Paul Barrett who have Kerry connections were 15th and 18th respectively in a Suabaru S14 and a Ford Fiesta R5. The Hickey’s from Killarney Charlie and Johnny Hickey were 34th and 6th in Class 14, Gene Stack took third in Class 12 navigating for Limerick’s Mikley Walsh while James and Timmy Kissane were also third in their Class and just inside the top 50 overall. Eddie Kennelly and Tim Murphy were 4th in their Class and 60th overall. The rally was won by Josh Moffett and Andy Hayes in their Ford Fiesta WRC. PARNELLS WELCOME CASTLEBLANEY TO TOWN FOR FEILE:
Féile 2019 is almost here and Kerry Camogie are delighted to welcome four clubs who will enjoy the hospitality of the Kingdom over what promises to be a fantastic weekend of camogie. Killarney Camogie Club will welcome Four Roads from the parish of Four Roads/Ballyforan/Dysart in Co. Roscommon, a club that has always flown the flag proudly for Roscommon Camogie. Tralee Parnells will welcome Castleblayney of Monaghan. Castleblayney Hurlers hit the headlines this year when they reached the All-Ireland Junior Club Final and their U14 Camogie Team will hope to go one better at Féile. Cillard will host Castletown Geoghegan from Westmeath. The Westmeath Girls were very impressive in the recent Leinster Blitz and will hope to continue that run on their trip to the SouthWest. Causeway will play host to Na Brídeoga from Mayo. Both teams know each other well as the Mayo Girls defeated their Kerry counterparts at Féile 2017 and

TALKING SPORT WITH THE TRALEE ADVERTISER Causeway defeated Cailíní Mhaigh Eo in last year’s decider. All in Kerry Camogie are looking forward to a great weekend of camogie and we hope that all visiting teams will enjoy their weekend in the Kingdom. FINAL PLACES IN THE RACE OF CHAMPIONS UP FOR GRABS AT THE TRACK: This Friday night at the Kingdom Greyhound Stadium it’s the semi-finals of the Navillus Race of Champions plus the semifinals of the Kerry Group Club Championship A3 525 Yards along with a fundraiser for the St Ita’s and St Joseph’s School Tralee. On Saturday night we have a fundraiser for Gneevguilla NS plus a number of 12 Dog Stakes for the Kerry GAA night on Friday night June 14th. Racing takes place on Sunday evening with the first race of 8 at 6.35pm. The track is currently taking entries for the Tilemaster Kingdom Derby AAO 525 yards starting on Friday June 21st and the Kerry Group Hospital Stake A2 current 525 yards starting on Saturday June 22nd – entries to the racing office on 061 448057. KINGDOM REACHES MUNSTER DECIDER: Going into the weekends Munster semifinals all the talk was that it would be a stroll in the park for Kerry and that going forward they will be one of the few teams that can challenge Dublin’s bid for 5-in-a-row. However a lackluster second half seems to have dented these expectations along with Cork’s big win over Limerick. But this could be a blessing in disguise for the Kerry management as it will certainly focus the squad. Kerry might not be the finished article yet but one poor 30 minute’s play does not make them a bad team. Similarly one good game and easy win over Limerick does not make Cork potential All Ireland champions. But what it does do is increase interest in the Munster decider and knowing Peter Keane and this Kerry set-up they will be perfectly ready for the first big game of the season. PARNELLS NEWS: The club is looking forward to welcoming teams from Tyrone and Monaghan for the 2019 Feile. Eire Og Carrickmore and Castleblaney are on the way to Tralee and everyone wishes them a weekend to remember. The men headed to Kilgarvan for Round 2 of the County League and went down to the home side 2-11 to 1-08. It is amazing to think that the last time these sides met in a senior hurling match was 100 years ago! In the South Kerry hurling league the men headed to Dr Crokes.
The Killarney club gave their visitors a guard of honor to make the Parnell’s first time playing at the Lewis Road venue. While the Killarney side ran out the winners by 6 points, 3-17 to 2-14, there was very little between the sides. Summer Camp: The club is now taking bookings for the Summer Camp starting on July 15th. The camp is for players from 6 to 14 and runs until the 18th from 10aqm to 1pm in Casherslee. For those who can’t attend the 4 days there is a daily rate of e10. At Academy level Orla O’Connor was the u6 Player of the Week for the second week in a row. Max Fitzgibbon was the u8 Player of the Week. The u11’s were involved in a cracking game away to Kilmoyley going down in the end 7-06 to 4-06.
continue to train at the same times this weekend. The u12 A’s put in a great effort taking on Ballymac Blues winning 2-10 to 3-07. The B’s went down to Ballymac Gold. The Division side enjoyed their game away to Legion. The u14 B took the Division 9B County title this week defeating Dr Crokes 3-12 to 0-07. The u15’s won two of their three games in the Munster Supertouch Tournament in Connolly Park. The u16’s are on an exam break while the u17’s took part in the 9 a side competition and found the tournament well worthwhile. The Kellogs Cul Camp takes place in Connolly Park from July 1st to 5th with booking details on-line. The Rockies own summer camp takes place in Connolly Park from August 5th to 10th.
par. Lisa O’Connor of Tralee won the Ladies Prize with a score of 131.
KERINS O’RAHILLYS NEWS: After a break the County League returns for Round 5. The team is on 5 points but is still awaiting the decision of the ‘drawn game’ against Rathmore. This weekend it the visit of local rivals Austin Stacks to Connolly Park where the game throws in a 7.30pm on Saturday. The Senior B team will be looking to get back to winning ways following their loss to Dingle. They make the long journey to Sneem for a 2pm Sunday throw-in. Both teams are on 4 points so this is a big game. At the Academy there was another great turn-out. The Players of the Week were U10 Niamh Lynch and John Horgan, u8 Chloe O’Donoghue, Max Fitzgibbon and Tadgh Lawlor. This Sunday the u6 girls and boys, the u8 girls and the u10 boys are making the short trip to John Mitchels at 10.30. The u12’s welcomed Beale to Tralee in the County League and it was the visitors that took the win but the home side put in a huge effort especially in the second half. There next game is away to Gneeveguilla on June 16th at 6pm. Monaleen from Limerick will visit Ballyrickard this Saturday June 8th at 12 noon for an u8 boys Blitz. In the Ladies section this Sunday will see theu10 girls joining clubs from around North Kerry for their Blitz with registration from 10am and play commencing at 10.30am. The u12’s were away to Dr Crokes and enjoyed a great win. The u14 Girls took on Glenflesk in the Division 2B County League final played at the Centre of Excellence and emerged with a well-deserved trophy. The u16’s took on Dr Crokes in the u16 County League semi-final in Pat Healy Park. Following a great battle the girls took the win 4-15 to 4-08 to set up a final clash with Castlegregory. Again both sides put on a great show that in the end saw the West Kerry side winning by 5 points. But the girls deserve huge credit for all the work they put in all season. There won’t be any more underage games for a few weeks but the Junior and Senior Ladies continue to train each week.
CAMOGIE NEWS: In the Liberty Insurance All Ireland Premier Junior Camogie Championship Kerry are in Group 2 alongside Offaly, Limerick, Waterford and Wicklow. The games begin on the weekend of June 29th /30th. The semi-finals are on August 10th with the final due for September 8th.
GOLF NEWS: Tralee GC: Captain John’s Prize was won by Michael O’Connell with Cian Hill in second and Brian Murphy in third. Raymond Kelly won the Best Gross while Domo Lyne and Stephen Barter rounded out the Top 5.

ST PATS NEWS: There was no winner of the Lotto from the numbers drawn on Monday night 7, 20, 23 and 25 and the next jackpot will be e6,200 with the draw in Keanes Bar this Sunday night. The club thanks all those who organized and took part in the 2019 Dingle Way Challenge which is a huge fundraiser for development projects that the club is undertaking. There was no academy action last Sunday because of the Dingle Way Challenge. The academy resumes next Sunday, the 9th of June at 10.30am. The u8’s played in the St Brendan’s Go Games last Thursday. The u14 Girls were in action in midweek. The Senior B team had a good win over Dingle C in Round 3 of the County Junior League Group 4. They won at home by 4 points. The senior team resume their Co. League campaign when they play Lispole at away this Saturday, the 8th June. This game is a round 5 fixture and is due to throw in at 7.30pm.
This weekend sees the first Kerry U-16 team trial in Deerpark at 9am followed by the adult County Strokeplay Championships in Castleisland on Sunday. There was history made at the weekend when Deerpark’s Damien Fleming won the National Men’s Matchplay Championship with a come from behind win. He becomes the first man ever to be the holder of a triple crown of National Matchplay, National Strokeplay and Irish Open titles at the one time! Having come through the early rounds he found himself 5 down in the final but pulled it back in amazing fashion winning one the first sudden death hole.
The Best score on Saturday was shot by David Leen with David Sheehy hitting the best score on Sunday morning and Donie O’Keeffe the best score in the afternoon. Eddie Enright took the Past Captains Prize with Eoin Lynch taking the Student prize, Richard Barrett the Senior prize and Donal Buckley the Best Prize. The Ladies Competition sponsored by Billy Nolan Jewellers was won by Margaret O’Donoghue ahead of Brid Halloran and Catherine McCarthy. CASTLEISLAND GC: In the Senior competition the winner was John O’Connell with Willie Galvin in second and Jerry Lyons in third. The winner of the Exchange Day with Killorglin was Paudie Murphy with Kevin McNamara second.
ON THE GREENS: PITCH AND PUTT: JAMIE AND LISA WIN TRALEE SCRATCH CUPS On Monday the Tralee Scratch Cup took place with Jamie Blake the winner by two strokes with 18 under par for 54 holes ahead of club-mate Jason Cregan with another Tralee player Alan Hobbart third on 14 under par.
