ROBOTIC HAIR RESTORATION AT THE FOREFRONT OF THE SUCCESS OF THE COSMETIC AND HAIR RESTORATION CLINIC TRALEE
The Cosmetic and Hair Restoration Clinic (CHRC) at The Bon Secours Hospital Tralee is the only healthcare provider in Ireland with the Artas® iX robotic hair restoration device, which is an advanced minimally invasise hair transplant system that uses artificial intelligence (AI) technology to deliver precise and natural-looking results without leaving a scar.
CHRC HAIR RESTORATION PATIENT, JAMES O'SULLIVAN. BEFORE
7 MONTHS POST-PROCEDURE
1 YEAR POST-PROCEDURE
“The results I’ve gotten from my hair restoration procedure at the CHRC has changed the way I look at myself in the mirror, no longer do I fixate on my receding hairline, I now see the great results and I’m filled with confidence”.
James O’Suivan
THINKING ABOUT HAVING A HAIR RESTORATION PROCEDURE?
Our hair restoration procedure is one of our most popular procedures here at CHRC. The below are some frequently asked questions we get asked by our patients:
How does it work?
At CHRC, we are the only healthcare provider in Ireland with the state-of-the-art ARTAS iX robotic hair restoration device which uses robotic Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE). It is an advanced minimally invasive hair restoration system that uses artificial intelligence technology to deliver precise and natural looking results.
What is the first step?
The first step is a one to one consultation with our surgeon to discuss your hair loss concerns. The consultation is completely confidential and handled with complete sensitivity. Our surgeon will carry out a full scalp and hair analysis and then discuss the most suitable treatment options to suit you; hair restoration procedure, PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) treatment and hair restoration medications. Our surgeon will then develop a tailored treatment plan for you and it will be completely person alised to suit your hairline design.
How soon will I see results?
Hair grows in cycles so every case is unique but in most cases patients will start seeing results from 4 months onwards but optimum results will be seen between 12-18 months.
When can I return to work?
Returning to work the next day is a strong possibility with minimal downtime, swift recovery and no hospital stay required.
Is there a payment plan?
Yes, we are delighted to have partnered up with Cara Credit Union who offer affordable and accessible payment plans to all our patients.

Caitriona’s fitness advice for the Summer months? ...Stay consistent!
There is a quotation ‘Mindset is everything ‘ and oftentimes when we see the sun coming through in the Summer months , maybe the kids getting their Summer holidays, the smell of the BBQ’s from the neighbours garden , there can be a little switch going off in our head changing the mindset ... to maybe take it a little easier over the coming months , to relax a little , to not be such a slave to routine ...Well here is where the ‘balance ‘ comes in ..So says Catriona , Manageress of Zero Gravity Fitness Studio over at Manor West Leisure Centre
“ We are all more active during the summer months. This time of the year naturally calls us to outdoor activities and events we can enjoy with family and friends. Balance
is the key. Outdoor activities do not necessarily provide a uniform physical load and can even cause injuries due to overload. Transitioning to the outdoor volume for new exercise stimulus is recommended but when you balance it with full-body training. To help support your physical conditioning we are keeping a healthy diverse range of group exercise classes operating during the summer months. Running for 6 weeks starting 3rd July, continued structured exercise will keep you energized, and in touch with your goals.” says Catriona These classes are open to members and non-members to avail of. Bookings are being taken now as spaces are limited.” Remember healthy
lifestyles need consistency. A break in the summer means breaking the routine, and in the autumn it will be
more difficult to start training again”
Garvey’s Supervalu Kerry Senior County Hurling Championship Groups Confirmed
Hurling season is upon us as the nine clubs competing in the 2023 Garvey’s Supervalu Senior Kerry County Hurling Championship attended the eagerly anticipated competition draw which took place at Garvey’s Supervalu in Tralee this week.Even the most seasoned pundits always find it hard to predict winners as last year’s champions Causeway will be looking to defend a title while runners-up Ballyduff will want to go one step further.
Kilmoyley, who have 26 titles – the most in the championship’s 124 year history - will also be targeting a final spot, having won back to back titles in 2020 and 2021.The first round of this year’s championship will begin on the weekend of 17th and 18th of June with exact match fixture details
yet to be confirmed.
Jim Garvey, Director, Garvey’s Group said, “Garvey’s Supervalu has always been about supporting our local community as they are the customers that have helped to build our business over the years. GAA is at the heart of Kerry life and the Kerry County Championship is the stage for the current heroes and emerging talent to shine. It fuels our success at inter-county level which can be seen, in particular, in how Kerry hurling has improved at a national level in recent years. With only nine clubs, most of whom are within a strike of a hurl of each other, this marquee hurling competition is very tribal and always delivers a serious standard of hurling that can stand up against any of the leading
hurling counties and we are proud to be backing it for our eleventh year.”

Kerry were better but Athlone nick the points!
KERRY FC 0–1 ATHLONE TOWN
Kerry FC faced Athlone Town in a home match at Mount Hawk Park. The previous encounter between the two teams resulted in Kerry’s only win of the season. However, their subsequent home matches have been challenging, with a draw against Finn Harps and a 6-0 loss to Waterford. As they reach the midway point of the season, the team is hoping to end the first half on a positive note.
Captain Matt Keane returned to the starting lineup, aiming to make an impact in front of the home crowd.
Kerry FC Manager, Billy Dennehy, saw this game as an opportunity to set things right after the previous loss at home.
The first half was evenly matched, with no significant chances for either side. Kerry had a goal disallowed for offside. They started gaining control of the game but needed to capitalize on their pressure. Against the run of play, Athlone had their chance but failed to convert.
The first half resembled a game of chess, with both teams looking for an opportunity to take the lead. Kerry came close with a backheel
effort but couldn’t find the net. However, just before halftime, Athlone scored, much to Kerry’s dissatisfaction.
The second half mirrored the first, with Athlone having a slight advantage. Kerry dominated the game but struggled to break the deadlock. They applied constant pressure, but Athlone’s defense held firm, occasionally aided by questionable refereeing decisions. Despite their efforts, Kerry couldn’t find an equalizer.
With eighteen minutes remaining, Kerry appeared to have leveled the score, but Athlone’s goalkeeper made an impressive save, tipping the shot onto the post. Kerry continued to attack, but Athlone held on to their 1-0 lead. The game ended with Athlone stealing three points. Kerry FC was disappointed but proud of their performance. They now have a break before resuming the season against Bray Wanderers on June 23rd.

RTE Visits Castlemaine To See Jack!
The Castlemaine Events Committee had the honor of hosting RTE’s television crew and well-known presenters Pat Shortt, Mike Hanrahan, and guest Billy Keane in Castlemaine on June 11th. This visit was part of the recording for a new music series set to air on RTE One Television in September/ October 2023. Castlemaine village was chosen as a location for the series due to its association with the famous song “The Wild Colonial
Boy” and its historical significance, represented by the Jack Duggan Monument erected in 2019 with community support.
The recording took place in Griffin’s Bar & Restaurant, where Kerry’s talented singer and songwriter, Lorraine Nash, performed “The Wild Colonial Boy.” Lorraine was interviewed about her career, and Teachta Dála Brendan Griffin shared the history and story of Jack Duggan with RTE. The television cameras
captured the picturesque scenes of Castlemaine, including the Jack Duggan Monument, Jack Duggans Bar, and the Quay beside the River Maine.
The anticipation and excitement in the local community were palpable before RTE’s visit, and everyone is eagerly awaiting the national television broadcast in the upcoming months, which will undoubtedly bring a significant boost to the area. The Castlemaine Events
Committee extends special thanks to the local residents and business community for their outstanding efforts in ensuring the village and its surroundings looked their best for the filming. Gratitude is also expressed to Helen, Frank, and the entire team at Griffin’s Bar & Restaurant for providing their premises and warm hospitality during the recording.

Latest Festival news (as reported by Dublin Live)
The Rose of Tralee is reportedly set for a presenter shake-up this year as RTÉ aims to modernise the annual event. Daithi O’Se as fronted the show since 2010 and is renowned for hit wit and charm, so will once again return to front the highly-rated show. But this time around he will be joined live by a female co-host.
In the first major change to the hosting line-up in 13 years, RTE bosses will add either Operation Transformation host Kathryn Thomas, 2fm Breakfast’s Doireann Garrihy or station newcomer Anna Daly into the mix this August. A source told RSVP Live: “This year will be very different on The Rose of Tralee. Daithi will be back as normal because it wouldn’t be the same without him but he will be getting a co-host.
“RTÉ wants to inject new life and blood into the long-running festival and adding some female energy to it seems to be what will work.” Full story

Tralee Community Groups take Gold & Silver places at Kerry Community Awards
Coiste Áiseanna na hÓige Teo emerged as the overall winners of the 2023 Kerry Community Awards, announced during a packed ceremony at The Rose Hotel in Tralee last weekend. Situated in Dingle at Ard Na Gréine, this group serves as a Family Support Centre and Early Years Facility for West Kerry. Their comprehensive range of childcare services includes a creche, naíonra, montessori, breakfast club, afterschool program, counseling, play therapy, family support, and a parent and family toddler group. These initiatives play a crucial role in supporting and empowering children and their families.
Fiona Nic Gearailt, representing Coiste Áiseanna na hÓige, expressed her and the group’s overwhelming joy upon receiving the award. In an interview with The Kerryman, she stated, “We’re absolutely thrilled to be acknowledged. We put in a lot of hard work in West Kerry supporting families, and winning this award brings us immense delight.”
Kevin Hughes, Group Editor of The
Kerryman, expressed his satisfaction with the event and the significance of honoring all the finalists. He said, “The Kerryman is immensely proud to have been part of this initiative for almost two decades. Coiste Áiseanna na hÓige Teo, this year’s deserving winner, has made remarkable contributions through their incredible work. On behalf of The Kerryman and everyone involved in the Kerry Community Awards, including our dedicated committee, we extend our heartfelt congratulations to them.” Bill Morrell, Chairman of Kerry PPN, acknowledged the indispensable role of the generous sponsors in making the event possible. A total of 20 community groups were presented with awards on the night, with 10 groups receiving gold awards and the remaining 10 receiving silver. The prize money distributed this year amounted to €16,500. The organizers expressed their gratitude to all who attended the ceremony and showed their support, eagerly looking forward to the next
Kerry County Council supports National Food Waste Recycling Week
Join the 2nd National Food Waste Recycling Week, supported by Kerry County Council, from June 5th to 11th, 2023. Managed by MyWaste.ie, this campaign promotes practical tips to increase food waste recycling. Separating food waste from packaging is crucial to prevent contamination in compost and digestion facilities, reducing Ireland’s annual 800,000 tonnes of wasted food. This waste squanders land, water, energy, and fertilizer, costing the average household €700 per year and the nation €1.29 billion, according to the EPA. Our campaign raises awareness about diverting food waste from landfills to produce renewable energy and fertilizers for agriculture, creating green jobs. Funded by the Department of the Environment, Climate and Communications, it is managed by Ireland’s waste management planning offices.
Proper recycling of food waste generates clean energy and organic fertilizers. Minister Ossian Smyth emphasizes the financial and environmental benefits, while Minister Charlie McConalogue highlights the collective responsibility to reduce food waste, benefiting the environment and supporting farmers.
New legislation effective January 1st, 2024 will mandate food waste recycling bins, revolutionizing waste management. The campaign educates on proper disposal and emphasizes separating food waste from packaging for quality recycling and a circular economy.
National Food Waste Recycling Week 2023, supported by local authorities and associations, features nationwide events. At the Bloom Sustainable Living Stage, join talks by experts like Marie Staunton and explore interactive exhibits.

Green Party to Run Six Candidates for Kerry County Council Elections
The Kerry branch of the Green Party has announced its line-up of candidates for next year’s local elections, with representatives in all six electoral areas.
Tralee – Anluan Dunne; Killarney – Diarmaid Griffin;Listowel –Anne-Marie Fuller;Kenmare –Cleo Murphy;Dingle – Peadar Ó
Fionnáin;Castleisland – Paul Bowler
Branch chairperson Paul Bowler, who will run in the Castleisland local electoral area, describes the announcement of six candidates as a major achievement.
“This is the first time the Green Party will run in all electoral areas in Kerry,” he says. “It’s testament to the concern that exists about the climate threat. Our local branch has never been stronger and the six candidates have been working well together
since 2020. I’m proud of the fact that we will be offering every voter in Kerry an opportunity to elect a Green Party representative to Kerry County Council in 2024.”
The Green Party candidate for Tralee will be Anluan Dunne, who already campaigns for enhanced public transport, better air quality and vibrant towns & villages.
“Quality of life is massively important to people and I will be campaigning for more rail and bus services, better air quality, and investment in our town and village centres to make them places where people and families want to live, come to work and set up businesses,” he says.

BALLYFINNANE FESTIVAL OF SPEED REVS UP FOR JULY!
In 1903, Charles Rolls won the Kerry Hillclimb, marking the beginning of closed-road motorsport in County Kerry. Today, the county has two active motor clubs and four events, including an international rally, a national rally, a club rally, and a historic rally.
The festival, organized by Kerry Motor Club and Ballyfinnane Community Council, will feature a recreation of a speed hill climb. It will be the first time since the mid1980s that Kerry Motor Club hosts a speed event in Kerry. Local rally cars
and single-seater formula racing cars are expected to participate.
Brian O’Neill Garden Equipment and Trailers is the title sponsor of the event, with additional support from Wharton Tool Hire and Moriarty’s Central Car Sales. The original course cannot be used due to modern safety rules, but a new course has been identified near the Ballyfinnane Community Council’s hall. The event will bring activity to the famous crossroads near the Shanty Bar, with the pitstop taking place within 500 meters in
each direction of the pub. Around 80 cars will compete, and each participant will have three to five runs. The overall winner will be determined by the fastest time recorded on any of the runs. The festival kicks off on Saturday with a road run of period and classic cars organized by The Kingdom Veteran, Vintage and Classic Car Club and the Irish Veteran and Vintage Car Club. On Sunday, the main action takes place, along with a classic car display by the Killarney Valley Classic and Vintage Club. A
traffic management plan will be in place, with designated parking areas and shuttle bus services. The organizers have secured spectator zones and there will be live commentary, a static display of local road racing motorcycles, and other side shows.
The event aims to create an atmosphere of enjoyment, friendship, and lasting connections among participants and spectators.

Ingredients
• 1.6kg lean beef brisket, unrolled if bought tied up, visible fat removed
• 2 onions, thickly sliced
• 600ml hot beef stock
• 4 baking potatoes, pricked with a fork
• 4 level tbsp barbecue sauce
• 200g fat-free natural fromage frais or fat-free natural
• Greek yogurt
• 1 bunch spring onions, finely sliced
• For the spice rub:
• 2 tbsp garlic granules
• 1 tbsp smoked paprika
• ½ tsp mild chilli powder
• 2 tsp ground allspice
For the carrot salad:
• 1 red onion, finely sliced
• 3 carrots, cut into matchsticks or shredded with a julienne peeler
• 2 little gem lettuces, shredded
• Red wine vinegar, to serve
Method
1. Preheat your oven to 160°C/fan 140°C/gas 3.
2. Mix together all the spice rub ingredients and rub all over the beef. Put the onions in a shallow casserole dish and sit the beef on top. Pour the stock in, then cover. Roast for 5 hours, turning the beef a er 2 hours 30 minutes. While you’ve got the oven open, pop the potatoes in.
3. Half an hour before the beef’s ready, preheat your barbecue until the coals are white-hot. Carefully transfer the beef to the barbecue along with the potatoes. Cook the beef for 5-10 minutes on each side, until caramelised. Turn the potatoes every few minutes until they’re lightly coloured, then set aside and keep warm. Once the beef is nicely charred, brush it all over with the barbecue sauce and set aside to rest for 15 minutes. While the beef is resting, mix the fromage frais or yogurt with half the spring onions. To make the carrot salad, mix together all the veg and drizzle over the vinegar.
4. Use 2 forks to pull the brisket apart. Top the potatoes with the fromage frais or yogurt and the remaining spring onions.

St Pats GAA Club Update:Our U13 Gold team played in the semifinal of the Championship on Wednesday evening in the summer sun, Firies were our opponents and both teams battled hard for the early dominance. We went in a point down at the first half water break and the boys came out fired up for the second quarter taking some lovely scores with a great team goal.
We went in all square at half time on a scoreline of 1:05 apiece, the heat didn’t slow us down and we turned up the temperature ourselves.
The second half saw our bench bring fresh legs and energy to the occasion, helping us get in front.
