Late goal sinks Kerry in the Capital!

Kerry FC traveled to the capital on Friday to face UCD AFC for the second time this season. Their previous encounter in Dublin ended in a 1-1 draw, with goals from Ciaran Behan and Daniel Okwute. Kerry FC had numerous chances to secure a win, but Ryan Kelliher’s late goal was ruled offside. In a subsequent match in Tralee, UCD defeated Kerry FC 2-1. Sean McGrath gave Kerry an early lead, but two goals from Michael McCullagh sealed the win for UCD. Kerry FC entered this game buoyed by back-to-back home victories, the most recent against Treaty United. First Team Coach James Sugrue emphasized the need for the team to start winning away games, a goal yet to be achieved this season. The first half saw limited opportunities, with UCD’s Danu Kinsella Bishop posing the only threat with three half-chances. In the 29th minute, UCD took the lead

through Eanna Clancy’s header from a corner. Kerry FC responded eight minutes later when Ryan Kelliher equalized with a header from Sean O’Connell’s corner. Both teams struggled creatively, and the half ended 1-1, with both goals coming from set pieces.Early in the second half, UCD’s Michael Raggett forced Kerry’s keeper Antonio Tuta into a save that hit the post. With twenty minutes left, UCD was awarded a penalty after Sean O’Connell fouled Kinsella Bishop. However, Tuta saved Bishop’s spot kick, keeping Kerry in the game.In the dying moments, UCD regained the lead. A low corner caught Kerry off guard, and Clancy scored again, sealing a 2-1 win for UCD.

Kerry FC now prepares to face Longford Town next Thursday before the Munster Senior Cup final against Waterford FC in two weeks.

Ring Of Kerry Cycle Goes Full Circle For Kidney Patients

The Irish Kidney Association (IKA) invites cyclists and supporters to join the Ring of Kerry Cycle on Saturday, 6th July 2024. This iconic event, which started over four decades ago by the Kerry IKA branch, has grown significantly, raising over €19 million for more than 160 causes, including establishing a vital dialysis center in Kerry.

Veterans from the first cycle remain active with the IKA, either participating in or supporting this year’s event. Many participants are kidney patients who join to celebrate transplantation and the

importance of exercise for both physical and emotional health. Notably, seven-year-old Cíalan Walsh from Waterville, Kerry, who needs a kidney transplant, serves as an inspiration to all. Cíalan attended a photocall at The Europe Hotel & Resort in Killarney on 8th June with founding members and cyclists supporting the IKA.

This year’s cycle features IKA ambassadors from Carlow, Cork, Kerry, Monaghan, and Tipperary, who have been personally impacted by organ failure. Their participation highlights resilience and promotes

organ donation while emphasizing fitness before and after transplants.

The IKA encourages support for the Ring of Kerry Cycle and its mission through several avenues:

1. Participate in the Cycle: Ride the 170k scenic route on 6th July and select the IKA as your charity. One free registration is available for every team of five.

2. Fundraise: Use the iDonate platform to raise funds for the IKA, with the top fundraiser winning a 2-night stay in Killarney.

3. Virtual Cycle: Register for a virtual cycle to participate from any location throughout July, either individually or with cycling clubs or spinning classes.

4. Bumper Prize Raffle: Enter the IKA raffle to win prizes worth over €8,000.

For more details and to support the IKA, visit www.ika.ie/ringofkerry.

"Really great service from start to nish. All the work was completed and the teams gone by the time we got home from work/school, so Keith actually came back the following day to talk us through the app and show us how to get the most out of it. Thanks to all the team at Green Energy Ireland for a very good customer experience." - John & Deirdre, Killarney

" I was a small bit dubious about the cost v bene ts aspect of moving to Solar PV, but after having met with Green Energy Ireland, who went to great lengths to ensure that I understood all the elements, I knew I was in good hands and had chosen the right partner for this part of our home upgrade project. Keith was always available, and everybody from the roofers to the electricians ensured we were kept in the loop and up to date on all the moving parts. We very much appreciated your patience and thank you for a really ne piece of work." - Maurice & family, Mallow

Rose Hotel announced as new HQ for Kerry Winter Rally

Kerry Motor Club has announced that the Kerry Winter Rally will have a new headquarters for the first time in its 43-year history. The November 3 event will now be held at The Rose Hotel in Tralee, rebranded as The Rose Hotel Kerry Winter Rally. Previously based at Banna Beach Resort since its inception in 1981, the rally was affectionately known as the Banna Rally. Despite this longstanding connection, both the club and The Rose Hotel are enthusiastic about their new partnership, which builds on their collaboration with the Circuit of Kerry Rally.

Sean Hegarty, the clerk of the course, expressed his gratitude to Banna Beach Resort: “I want to thank William Murphy and the entire team at Banna. Alan O Regan is voted the ‘Spirit of Scoil Eoin’ for 2024 ! Well done Alan!

One morning , last week, all of the 1st and 2nd classes in Scoil Eoin were summoned to the halla where the Student Council, Mr. O’Toole and Mrs. O’Donoghue awaited them. They soon realised that it’s that time of year again when our Scoil Eoin ‘School Spirit Award’ winner is announced.

The Scoil Eoin School Spirit Award was devised by the Student Council along with Mr. O’Toole in 2016. This award is not academic award, rather an award in recognition of a pupil who promotes inclusiveness and fairness, is a good role model and displays exemplary behaviour. Each teacher nominates a pupil from their class. The nominations were read out by Mrs. O’Donoghue to the Student Council members at a meeting, without naming the pupils in the interest of fairness. The Student Council members weren’t aware of the identity of this year’s winner until the announcement this morning.

Our 2024 winner was chosen by a unanimous vote! Alan O’Regan from Ms. Daly’s 2nd class was nominated because of his enthusiasm and energy. He has a great sense of humour and his kindness knows no bounds. Alan got a massive surprise when Mr. O’Toole called out his name and presented him with the trophy. Alan’s mom, dad and nan were hidden away and came into the hall once the announcement was made.

Everyone in Scoil Eoin is in agreement that Alan is a deserving winner.

Alan’s name will now join Grace, Luke, Tomás, Leon, Philip, Ella and Rían on our School Spirit Plaque.

Kerry Students make a splash at National Water Awards Ceremony

Artistic students from Nagal – Rice Primary School Milltown and Scoil Mhuire, Killorglin shone at the annual An Taisce Green Schools Water Awards. Orlaith O Sullivan and Ava Grace O Shea were both regional winners in the poster competition, impressing judges Geoffrey Bourke from Uisce Éireann and An Taisce’s Cathy Baxter with their creativity.

Bourke expressed awe at the students’ stories of working together to protect water resources and inspiring their communities to conserve water, calling them exemplary.

The event marked the eleventh year of Uisce Éireann’s sponsorship of An

Taisce’s Green-Schools programme, supporting schools working towards a Green Flag under the water theme. An Taisce engaged with 519 schools and over 142,000 students and 12,800 teachers throughout the academic year.

Baxter commended the students, teachers, and schools for their creativity, thanking Uisce Éireann for their ongoing support in creating a world-class water education programme.

The Green-Schools water theme aims to raise awareness and understanding of water conservation activities at primary and secondary levels. Beyond conservation, it emphasizes

stewardship of water resources and awareness of wastewater impacts on inland and
