Watch out for Jess, The Underdog! In what has been an exciting year for Women’s Sport, the TG4 series ‘Underdogs’ is back and it’s over to the ladies. A group of footballing nobodys will be trained by some of the country’s most iconic Gaelic Football players. And one of those ' nobody's ' is Tralee
lady Jessica McCarthy, from the Spa .No stranger to sport , Jessica comes from the hugely popular McCarthy family who run Paddy Macs & Jack Mac's pubs in the heart of Tralee as well as Patricks The Hair Group Salon They only have 6 months to bring them to an inter-county
standard before the squad must take on one of the most successful Gaelic Football teams in the country. This management team have their work cut out for them as they must choose from hundreds of applications. Back on the sides line are former Kerry Captain and former Kerry Manager Mickey Ned O’ Sullivan, Gaoth Dobhair legend and former Donegal Footballer Kevin Cassidy.
holder knows what it takes to make the leap involved. With six months to whip them into shape, the only rule is that these potential players can never have played Gaelic football at a junior, intermediate or senior intercounty championship level. The TV series kicked off last night on TG4 at 9.30pm so set the recorder for the series !
Joining them this year, with over 18 years’ experience playing at county level, the former Waterford taliswoman Michelle Ryan will be stepping up to the sideline. Michelle has brought the Déise from Division 3 to Division 1, and the All-Star nominee and five-time interprovincial title Friday 5th November 2021

OUR PROPERTY PAGE IN ASSOCIATION WITH TOMMY CARMODY’S PROPERTY HOUSE
Tommy’s current market outlook... Hello Tommy, in advance of your visit to value our property we have been discussing the angles and options available to take with regards to the disposal of our home and our very large garden. We feel that because our garden is so big there would be potential to sell the home and a certain sections of the garden as one lott and the remaining garden as a site – would this result in us achieving a great price for our property? On visiting the home the following was our feedback to the vendors– The property is eye catching. One of the main reasons the home is so attractive is down to the fact that there is such a large garden – if you reduce the garden size the property is not going to be as eye catching. As is, the home along with the large garden would command
say €320,000 on the open market. If the site was halved to allow adequate space for the ‘urban site’ the home could in fact appear to look cramped. The garden remaining would not be as attractive and therefore I would value the home and lands at €270,000. The site may well command €80,000. This would result in the clients achieving say €350,000 vs €320,000. €30,000 is a considerable amount of monies of course but by the time professionals are paid to amend title, folios and costs associated with selling 2 properties are added up – coupled with the time involved, splitting the property needs to be seriously considered. There would also be uncertainty from the purchasers of the home as to what exactly will be built next door, concerns over construction noise, timeframes etc.
It is likely that if the property is advertised and marketed in such away that it is made clear there is future development potential available on the large garden that this will result in the client achieving the greatest result. Indeed an investor or developer is likely to be attracted to the sale too and they will be more prepared to take the ‘splitting project’ on.
In this case the advice is to sell the entire home and lands together. Speak soon, hopefully.

Put the sugar in a small pan and melt over a medium heat, stirring occasionally, to make the caramel. It’s ready when the sugar has completely melted and is golden in colour – this will take about 10 minutes. Meanwhile, put the fruit into a large bowl and sprinkle over the brandy or Cointreau and sweetener, if using. Mix well and divide between 4 heatproof ramekins or small dishes. Spoon the yogurt over the fruit to cover and level the top of each serving. Take the caramel off the heat. Wrap a tea towel around your hand and add a tablespoon of hot water (very carefully, in case it spits). Stir well and leave to cool for a minute or two, then spoon the caramel over the yogurts, giving an equal amount to each one. "No Vehicle is too BIG or too small' says Kevin Here are just some of the cars , trucks and heavy duty machinery that Kevin Nolan of Nolans 24hour Mobile Tyre Service deals with in a typical week ! Says Kevin "If the tyres in your car, van, truck, bus, agricultural or plant machinery need to be repaired or replaced, I can do that for you, wherever it needs to be done. I’ll come to your farmyard, place of work or home. I offer a 24 hour mobile tyre service that covers all of Kerry and surrounding areas." Quality is one of the big factors that sets Nolans Tyres apart from other mobile tyre repair companies. According to Kevin "My competitive rates are another contributing factor, this applies to what I charge for my work and the cost of tyres, I have something to suit
all budgets." But replacing tyres isnt the only service Nolans Tyres has to offer," I repair tyres, vulcanising of truck tyres, rim refurbishment, fix and straighten alloys." You might be forgiven for thinking that such a convenient service of coming to you at home, farmyard or work would come at a premium price but this is not the case with Nolans tyres. Nolans Tyres are fully insured and compliant with tyre recycling regulations and a registered member of RepakELT. You can contact Kevin about all your tyres needs on 0872974591. AND NOW FOR THE GOOD NEWS...
from The Tralee Advertiser Team and Tralee Chamber Alliance
Don’t forget your shovel if you want to go to work! Some good news about the environment for a change! Tralee Bay Wetlands Eco & Activity Park will be holding public tree-planting sessions throughout the month of November so if you fancy doing something wonderful that will actually help combat climate change, read on. Starting this Saturday 6th and extending through Samhain, the good people at Transition Kerry will be facilitating the event. Transition Kerry is a community initiative programme supported by Kerry County Council. They encourage local people to get involved with ecological projects with an aim to inspire communities to think long and hard about future-proofing their environments.
By Georgie Downes
Niamh Ní Dhúill of Transition Kerry and Mary O’Connor of Tralee Bay Wetlands say they are delighted to be working on this project together along with the support of Community Water Officer, Brid Moriarty. “This initiative is working towards the long-term enhancement and biodiverse habitat creation of the Wetlands, with tree planting being one of nature’s greatest solutions.” Niamh said. The 2021 Tree Planting Initiative, which is also part of the wider Water Quality Enhancement Programme, recognises the vital role trees play in the global cycle of water. In case you didn’t know, the canopy of a tree shelters soil from extreme weather conditions. The foliage acts as a buffer, taking all the energy
out of driving rain, allowing water to roll gently to the forest floor, thus percolating deep into the substrata. Without tree cover, torrential rain can strip soil from the land and, in turn, this can contribute to floods when excess water causes rivers to burst their banks. So, all in all, trees are one of our best allies against the threat of climate change. Looking to increase your fibre intake.... TRY THIS: Mix equal parts of flaxseed and oat bran in water. Let it soak over-night and take two tablespoons in the morning in juice.
Bowel Health Constipation can be caused by poor eating habits, lack of fibre and nutrients, eating white flour products (glue foods), overeating, bad food combining, stress, lack of exercise or general poor living habits. Constipation can cause numerous health problems if left untreated. Every system of the body can be affected through auto intoxication caused by constipation. An increasing number of people suffer with this uncomfortable and unhealthy issue. When constipated, the colon becomes a breathing ground for bacteria’s, viruses, parasites, yeasts, moulds, etc. Avoid habit forming laxatives as they kill friendly intestinal flora.
•
A good balanced diet is essential for healthy digestion and bowel health. A high fibre diet will help to clean and completely eliminate the colon of waste product, soon after eating. Eat whole grains, whole wheat, brown rice, whole oats, buckwheat and quinoa. They contain bran rich in fibre, vitamins and minerals, as well as complex carbohydrates and protein. Chew food well and eat smaller meals. Some juices may also help with constipation, such as PRUNE, APPLE and PEACH, which have a natural laxative effect. Avoid or cut down on processed foods and sugars.
•
Exercise and drinking plenty of water through-out the day will help with healthy bowel function. Also, here are some herbal remedies which will help with bowel and overall digestive healthl:

Toyotas first purpose-built battery electric vehicle (BEV) is due here next May. The bZ4X is the first model in a new series of bZ – beyond Zero – battery electric vehicles. The SUV will come with a new all-wheel drive system. The European premiere is scheduled for December 2 and, Toyota say, Irish motorists will be able to test drive the new bZ4X at dealerships from May. They claim the new car can cover around 450km on one charge, and that having the battery pack as an integral part of the chassis under the floor gives it a low centre of gravity and high body rigidity for safety, ride and handling. The allwheel drive system has separate electric motors for each axle. The lithium-ion pack which powers the bZ4X, is still expected to operate at 90pc of its original performance after 10 years of driving. There will be a third generation Toyota Safety Sense and new, improved active safety and driver assistance systems.
KIA EV6 ...AN ABSOLUTE STUNNER!
OK, not every new EV is a dazzler but we are being treated to some cars of enormously varied design and performance alongside increased practicality on range. And these are early days in the EV calendar. All of this is by way of me suggesting that you can add yet another dashing new arrival to your list of ‘desirable’ EVs.It’s the KIA EV6 (what an appropriate name) and it has just gone on sale here this week. I thought it was a stunning looking car when first I saw it in the flesh in Dublin and the more I used and drove it, the more I liked the look of it inside and out. Those looks are exceptional, with powerful super-car flowing lines to the front, especially, hinting at dynamism. Style is one thing – and it has it in abundance – but class is another and I have to say the two fuse in this. It’s all about smooth outside; even the door handles snuggle flush and only pop out when you approach the car (I know, I know Tesla do it too). On 20-inch wheels (19-inch is standard) my version almost looked like it floated, due in no small measure to the dramatically sloped profile to dovetailing effect to at the rear. Inside is a revelation. The two info screens also appear to ‘float’ on the dash. The interactive system is extensive and intuitive though I wasn’t that impressed with the voice control. Nor the location of USB points down in the throat of the cabin. And I would have liked more adjustability on the steering wheel. But that is quibbling in the extreme with something quite special as modern interiors go (vegan seats, mind you). There is a clear logic to where stuff should be and I felt totally in command within a couple of minutes of foostering around. It’s an ultramodern cabin, smart in design and in styling. Liked it a lot. By the way I also loved, and used, the rear parking bird’s eye view many times – I can’t imagine life without one now. I spent a lot of time in this EV6 over a few days; a single one-way journey involved 90 minutes in M50 gridlock; so all we could do was sit tight in our comfortable surroundings and tut-tut at the mess around us. There was loads of room in the back for the third passenger too. In contrast with that slow-mo, I managed, separately, a spurt of nippy driving that showed how quickly this car can hit top legal limits when you put the foot down. My (different) passengers were impressed/scared. Dynamically it had a nice balance to it (I used ‘sport’ mode a good deal), never requiring much input from what was a true steering feedback. An excellent package. They claim the long range 77.4kWH battery (plus 229ps electric motor) gets you up to 528km (Earth version circa €50000 )while the car on test (GT-Line) can manage 506km. All I know is that what you get is largely determined by how you drive. M50 gridlock? It’s perfect, if unwelcome, for this sort of power-source and the ‘needle’ barely moved. It stands to reason that my energetic cameo had the remaining charge percentage dwindling at a fair rate of knots. But in both cases, with average driving and the help of the on-board heat pump to take some load off the system, you should expect around 450km/460km. I’d settle for that. It’s hard to believe but more than 200 Irish people ordered one without seeing the car in the flesh. I wouldn’t do that. But for the record, in case anyone digs out this piece in a few years: Yes, I would buy it.(Eddie Cunningham , Indo Motoring ) Friday 5th November 2021

METHOD
In a large, deep pan, heat the olive oil. Season the lamb chops with salt and pepper and rub them all over with the coriander. Add the lamb chops to the pan along with the garlic cloves and 10 thyme sprigs and cook over high heat, turning once, until the lamb chops are browned and the garlic cloves are browned in spots, about 6 minutes Add the red wine, dried cherries and dried apricots to the pan and bring to a boil. Cook over moderate heat until the wine is reduced by half, about 5 minutes. Add the beef stock and bring to a boil. TALKING SPORT WITH THE TRALEE ADVERTISER
with “The Voice” Pat Harnett
FAI NATIONAl P.R.O. OF THE YEAR UNDERAGE BASKETBALL MUST BE ALLOWED BOUNCE BACK: I am very cognisant as I am writing this that we have lost some very good people during Covid and that there are still people suffering either in hospital or at home. And to those people sport is probably one of the least important things they have to worry about. But we also have seen the great uptake of the vaccine and hopefully with our frontline medical staff and older people getting the booster they will be further protected. It should also be given to those who have underlying conditions but I am not sure of the need to give it to the wider population but that’s not for here. Back to the headline and the shock that the KABB, the clubs and the schools received last Thursday that effectively axed the return of underage basketball. The Basketball Ireland advice says that if there are players of mixed immunity the games cannot take place unless they are within the pod system – 3v3. This also includes coaches and officials but not to National League or international games who are deemed elite. But here comes the kicker – while children over 12 can get the vaccine those under 12’s cannot. So Sport Ireland and the Dept of Sport have signed off on a rule that cannot be adhered to and therefore no one under 12 can play basketball. But it gets even more farcical. U18’s can play if they have proof of vaccination but teachers and coaches cannot ask for that proof so these games, including schools competitions have been cancelled / postponed. The return of underage basketball was expected to be this week while schools competitions were also set to tip-off and now all of this is in limbo. And this comes after some clubs and schools have been back training for a few weeks. Kerry basketball was in a very good place before the lockdown and the sports administrators did the right thing and shut down very early on. Now these same people are not being trusted to run the game safely. I am lucky enough to get to cover the National League teams in the county and every one of these run their games to the highest safety standards. Remember these Leagues were cancelled last year but went ahead all over Europe with no knock on effects. Why not give basketball clubs – and of course while I am highlighting basketball the same issues are being faced by volleyball, badminton and other indoor sports – protocols? Players come to training and games togged out. No supporters are allowed in the halls. A training session or game can be run off in an hour so it’s not too long for parents to wait outside. Basketball must be changed at the end of each quarter and sanitised and clubs must leave at least an hour between training sessions or games with the doors open. At the end Friday 5th November 2021
of the day parents will make the choice as to whether it is safe to send their children to any sport. The KABB and schools have the skills to come up with schedules to ensure the games will get played. What the present rules will do is drive children away from these games which will have long term effects on participation levels and equally as worrying is the effect these will have on the development levels of the players. Well done to Garvey’s Tralee Warriors head coach John Dowling who has been to the forefront of pointing out this discrimination of young indoor sports persons. John of course is an All Ireland winning schools coach. Other high profile coaches have followed suit. And I heard new treasurer of the KABB Mary Gardiner on the radio this week outlining the limbo they find themselves in. However unless Sport Ireland / the Dept of Sport reverse their unworkable position then all the clubs in Kerry and the schools should protest to allow their sport to return as it was expected to do this week. WARRIORS SET UP HOME CUP QUARTER FINAL: With the Tralee side and their opponents Tradehouse Central Ballincolling both going into last Sunday’s InsureMyHouse. ie Pat Duffy National Cup unbeaten this was always going to be a hard fought Cup tie and so it proved. In the end John Dowling’s side took the win 74-66 to set up a home quarter final against Moycullen in early December. There were a number of highlights in the game including the five rejections of Ballincollig shots by Nikola Roso, three pointers from Roso, Daniel Jokubaitis, Eoin Quigley and Aron Calixte and an amazing basket by Kieran Donaghy who was surrounded and being fouled under the basket but somehow made the shot. Ballincollig did that the lead at the end of the third quarter but the Warriors quickly regained the lead that they didn’t relinquish again in the game. Aaron Calixte top scored for the Warriors on 20 with Roso on 16 and Jokubaitis on 14 and they head to Galway this Saturday to take on NUIG Maree in the SuperLeague. SUCCESS FOR TRALEE SIDES IN COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP OPENER: Having mentioned Kieran Donaghy in the basketball report he must also get a mention here as he was instrumental in seeing Austin Stacks get the better of three-in-a-row chasing East Kerry 1-07 to 1-05 in the opening round of the Garvey’s GAA Senior Football County Championship. It probably was the ideal time to meet the Divisional side especially as the Stacks were coming of their Club title win. Kerins O’Rahillys made it a very good weekend for the town when they enjoyed an impressive 1-16 to 0-09 win
over St Kieran’s in their opener. Both sides are in quarter final action this weekend. On Saturday Rahilly play Dingle at 5pm in the first of a double header followed by Killarney Legion versus St Brendan’s Board. On Sunday in the Fitzgerald Stadium at 12.45 Templenoe take on Dr Crokes with Austin Stacks taking on South Kerry at 2.45pm in arguably the tie of the round. KERINS O’RAHILLYS NEWS: With the season nearly over at underage level the u14 Girls are awaiting details of their final, the u16’s enjoyed a great day out in Limerick and were due to play their North Kerry League final in midweek while the Girls trials for the u16’s and minors begin tonight Friday night November 6th. Lotto – there was no winner of the jackpot from the numbers drawn 5, 21, 23 and 29 and the next jackpot is e2,300. PARNELLS NEWS: The club is proud to support a Debs and Evening wear fashion show which will take place on the 21st of November at 4.30pm in Ballyroe Heights hotel. All proceeds will go to Autism friendly Tralee and to Tralee Parnells. The event is hosted by the Kerry Wedding store. Tickets are available at https://bit.ly/ DebsandEveningFashionshow The u7 boys and girls enjoyed a great end of season final session on the astro turf pitches at the Complex. Medals and goodie bags were presented to each player. Nancy Diggin and Iarliath Clifford were the final Players of the Week. Manager David Lucid thanked all his coaches for their work over the season. The under 21 hurlers will take on Ballyheigue in the North Kerry u21 hurling championship this Sunday, November 7th at 12 noon, in Caherslee. AUSTIN STACKS JUVENILE NEWS: Well done to the Cup winning captains who continue the proud traditions of taking the Cups home – the John Galvin Cup – Danny Lane, Gary Fernane Cup – Liam Swords, Jimmy Barry Cup – Bruno Grzybowski and Ben O’Leary, Paddy Drummond Cup – Donagh Hogan, the Bracker Regan Cup – Conor McCannon and of course at senior level for the third year in a row the Michael O’Connor Cup is in the hands of club captain which this time is Dylan Casey. The underage season has ended their season and everyone is looking forward to getting back indoors in January. The Clubs Race Night is back after two years and one of the social events of the year will take place on Friday November 26th. Races can now be sponsored and horses bought from club committee members. College News: Mercy Mounthawk were in Munster Senior Corn Ui Mhuiri action against St Flannan’s in mid-week. The Cup is being held by the Tralee CBS since it was won in 2020. The Green took on ISK in their first round. Mercy Mounthawk took the O’Sullivan Shield Final defeating ISK. The Tralee side took the win by 8 points 2-15 to 1-10. This follows on from the win by Gaelcholaiste Tralee in the Moynihan Cup. The Green u15’s, the Tralee CBS, Gaelcholaiste and Mercy Mounthawk U16 ½ hurlers are in action this week.
Tralee’s Gary O’Neill an integral part of the squad the other Kerry player to do this – Billy Dennehy didn’t have much time to dwell on past glories. That’s because along with James Sugrue their Kerry 19’s squad faced Treaty United twice in the week as the Group phase of the 19’s League of Ireland Shield comes to a conclusion. Kerry won in UL during the week and then tanks to goals from Ryan Kelliher and Cian Brosnan they repeated the feat at Mounthawk Park on Sunday. Kerry and Waterford FC have now progressed to the semi-finals but first they meet this Sunday in WIT to see who wins the Group and gets a home semi-final. Finn Harps and either Drogheda or Dundalk will be the semifinalists from the other Group. ENGINES READY TO ROAR THIS SUNDAY AS RALLYING RETURNS: The sense of excitement in the motorsport community is reaching fever pitch as the Banna Beach Resort Kerry Winter Stages rally returns this Sunday for the first time since 2019. Over 140 cars are set to take part on stages in the Kielduff, Ballymac and Lyreacrompane area with road closures in place. The club is very grateful to the residents in the area for their cooperation. There is a very strong field set to take part but with most of the top Kerry competitors in the field the hopes a local success in Class or on GC are high. In other motorsport news Lorcan Hanafin, whose father Dermot is from the town, has been shortlisted for the National Racing Driver of the Year award by Motorsport News. EQUESTRIAN NEWS: We are delighted to feature some equestrian news with our friends at the Derra Farm Equestrian centre in Asdee now sending us in their notes. The new outdoor equestrian show and training venue is enjoying a successful year in business under the leadership of Shannon O’Mahony and Jeremiah O’Connor and their team. The final of their Derby League took place with 7 classes ranging from cross poles to 1.10m with over 190 combinations jumping on the day. Amongst the winners were Ella McCarthy and Fudge in the Leadrein Cross Poles Derby, Eabha Buckley and Maggie in the Cross Poles Derby. Kamila Savickyte and Patch took the 50cm Derby, Chloe Curtin and Paddy the 60cm Derby, Cillian Finucane and Rocky the 70cm derby, Ciara Quinn and Jack the 80cm Derby, Aoibhinn O’Driscoll and Lambay Brian Boru the 90cm Derby, Laura Collins and Loisin Diamond the 1m and 1.10m Derby. ON THE GREENS ELLA ENJOYS THE LONG AND SHORT GAME: Having had a great year on the pitch and putt scene Tralee girl Ella Moynihan has proved that she can also do it in the longer form of the game. She has just won the Golf Ireland Junior Girls Medal at the Woodbrook Golf Club. This is an invitational event and Ella’s 39 points saw her take the win by four points. She added this title to a number won in Tralee Golf Club competitions and in National Tralee Pitch and Putt competitions. 2021 will be a year Ella will remember for a long time.

IN MEMORY THE MIRACLE PRAYER Dear Heart of Jesus in the past I have asked for many favours, this time I ask you this special one (mention favour). Take it dear Heart of Jesus and place it within your Heart where your Father sees it, then in his merciful eyes it will become your favour not mine. Amen. Say this prayer three times for three days and your favour will be granted. Never known to fail. Must promise publication of prayer. L.T.
