LEGAL CORNER

The More you tell the more you sell!!!
LEGAL MATTERS CORNER MIRIAM MC GILLICUDDY ANSWERS YOUR LEGAL QUERIES
Samantha with the economy improving , the wild Atlantic way and health tourism numbers to Ireland is thinking of setting up her own business from home doing Irish craft and souvenir production for local markets and selling to local businesses and is wondering what she needs to look out for in terms of legal and other regulation. Setting up ones own business is an exciting time and for many while it is a leap into the unknown there is loads of information online and the local enterprise office with Kerry County Council available to help local entrepreneurs. On one level it is surprisingly easy to set up one’s own business getting a tax number and if one is using a special name other than one’s own name registering that special business name through www.cro.ie. All businesses should have a distinctive name to which once is accumulating goodwill. As one is building up a brand with a special look in terms of products it is a good idea to trademark one’s logo which gives a pictorial colourful look to the business. It is a theme which is then present on everything that emanates from the business, products, notepaper, invoices etc. This is quite cheap through www.patentsoffice.ie . Insurance is very important where products are involved where one is in production oneself. One way of protecting oneself down the line especially in relation to personal assets is to set up a limited company. This does involve more administrative workload but is worth it. Planning permission in relation to the home may need to be looked at as if one is setting up a production area this will probably require a planning application. In relation to products branded as Irish products there are special requirements in relation to how much they are from Ireland and importing from China and placing Irish on the label could land one in hot water. Along with opening up a bank account for the business one will also need an accountant for advice in relation to tax returns and taking on employees and registering for VAT once turnover goes above a certain amount. It is useful to have a solicitor on board also for legal advice. Cashflow is key to small businesses and a good accounts package including an invoicing system can be extremely helpful. Setting up one’s own business is easy but planning will make it successful and the local enterprise board offer great courses on this planning for setting up your own business. Moreover many businesses are set up part-time while people are still in employment thereby growing organically. So think about it if you have had that germ of a business idea, a growing economy is the best environment to try it out. Lawquip: Sitting behind his new desk for the first time since opening for business, a young businessman spots his first client enter the outer offices. He picks up the phone and starts waving his hands around in the air, pretending to be deep in conversation about figures. Finally, he puts the phone down. ‘Hi, can I help you?’ ‘Yes, I’m here to install the phone lines’

KERRY SKIN CLINIC
ECZEMA / DERMATITIS IN ADULTS BY DR DAVID BUCKLEY Some people may have eczema from childhood that extends into adulthood. This is usually due to atopic eczema which is a genetic condition causing dry, sensitive skin. This usually responds to regular moisturising with a safe, greasy moisturiser, free of colourings, perfumes and preservatives.
If the itch and rash is persistent and unresponsive to simple treatments from the doctor, these people might need to see a skin and allergy specialist for a specific allergy test called a skin patch test to see if they are allergic to something that is touching their skin.
These adults also need to avoid all soaps and other irritants such as bubble baths, shampoos and shower gels. They should use soap free washes and shower gels instead. More troublesome, persistent cases may need a topical steroid to be applied to the badly affected areas once at night and this is usually only prescribed by doctors. Severe cases may need allergy testing to rule out any underlying food or contact allergy.
Other adults may develop what is known as irritant dermatitis. This is from the skin being irritated from harsh chemicals such as soap, shampoos, washing up liquids or oils. These patients usually do not have an underlying allergy, just sensitive skin. The most common pace to get contact irritant dermatitis is on the hands. It is more common in occupations that involve getting the hands wet a lot such as hairdressers, nurses, kitchen workers and dairy farmers. Treatment involves moisturising the hands frequently with a safe greasy moisturiser and avoiding soaps and other irritants. These people also need to wear gloves for all wet work, particularly if there is a soap or detergent in the water. They need to wash with soap free washes and detergent free shampoos. Potent topical steroids may be necessary of sever hand eczema.
Some people only develop eczema in adulthood. If the eczema only affects specific areas such as the hands or the face, they may be suffering from a contact allergic dermatitis from something that is touching their skin such as perfumes, preservatives, nickel, cement, etc.

WHAT’S HAPPENING IN TRALEE.. Who’s on the phone? It’s Lucy the Alpaca, from Sandy Feet Farm! Dr Doolittle isn’t the only human who can talk to the animals. Visitors to Sandy Feet Farm can receive calls on their mobiles from Lucy the Alpaca, Goujon the chicken, Kathleen the Highland Cow or Róisín the Dexter, as they stroll round Kerry’s newest family attraction.
By swiping their smartphones on a nearby plaque, visitors will get a call from one of the animals. Each has a different story to tell. Goujon the Chicken for example, can recall over 100 human faces, while Lucy the Alpaca loves to explain how she guards her flock and keeps the foxes at bay. Using facts, humour and mobile technology, the service, called Talking Animals, helps young people engage with the farm’s animals, learning their distinctive traits and habits. “Sandyfeet Farm is a familyrun, open farm with a strong
commitment to education,” says Eleanor, who runs the farm with her husband Roy Bowler. “The children love the idea of Talking Animals and find them entertaining and engaging. Who could resist hearing directly from a chatty alpaca?” Eleanor explains the technology is easy to use because there’s no need to install an app, you just tap your phone and off it goes! Each plaque has 3 kinds of built-in technology, she says: NFC, a short URL and a QR code and there is no charge for using it, apart from the standard network data charges. Talking Animals was funded with support from the LEO, Kerry. It is produced by Sing London, who developed Talking Statues Dublin and Talking Statues Wexford.
Kerry Great Global Greyhound Walk There was a fantastic turnout in Tralee celebrating the Great
Global Greyhound Walk (GGGW) 10th anniversary. Although first of its kind in Kerry, there were 278 walks taking place all over the world on Sunday last the 9th of June. Greyhound pet owners came out in force to raise awareness of the breed and show the public just what wonderful pets they make. This Great Global Greyhound Walk takes place to illustrate just how many people love greyhounds as pets. These walks will continue at a local scale on a regular basis and if anyone is interested in taking part in them or adopting one of these wonderful animals check out Great Global Greyhound Walk Kerry facebook page.

Lough Leane Algae warning Kerry County Council has this week erected signage along the
shore of Lough Leane to advise members of the public of the potential for an algal scum which can be harmful to small animals. Following the taking of samples by council staff in recent days, laboratory tests confirmed the presence of a blue-green algae which may have the potential to form an algal scum. In accordance with protocols for these situations, precautionary signage has been erected at locations along the shore of Lough Leane and those who frequent the shoreline are being advised to exercise caution. As a precaution, members of the public should ensure that dogs are kept on leads and not allowed to enter the water. Daily inspections of the shoreline will take place and further samples will be taken as required. The situation is being monitored closely on an ongoing basis by Kerry County Council. 8

New evening menu at 7th Heaven starts this weekend This weekend sees the (new) very popular Bistro and Cafe 7th Heaven ,located in Ashe Street , opposite the Courthouse , open its doors in the Evenings for the Summer with a simple yet extremely tasty and interesting A La Carte menu being served from 5pm til late . Says owner Marcin " A lot of our regular customers have been asking us to stay open so that they could sample a night out with our good food , and we also did a poll on Social media " The main challenge for us was to put together a different menu to our daytime fare so we could give people an
excellent taste experience in the evening time " We will be staying open right through until late , initially we thought on Friday and Saturday nights but already we have got bookings for other nights as well "... Looking through the menu , the initial thoughts are 'Wow ..its food with a difference here!! '... with starters such as Langoustine Soup , my pick on the main course would be Turbot Fillet with ratatouille and saffron sauce followed by their signature Magic Apple dessert (7th Heaven has already built up quite a reputation with their unique desserts and delicious Coffee )...And this is only one of many selections on their evening menu . They have a full wine list with Spanish and Italian choices to the fore , indeed a bottle of their house wine is only

WHATS DIFFERENT ABOUT BROOKFIELD?
Elisha "This year , we celebrate working with students for 31 years , since 1988 " says Principal Elisha Dowling . "I like to emphasise the word 'with' as it conveys the approach we take with all students who come here ...We have created an atmosphere in the College where students are expected and encouraged to perform to the best of their ability. The most important part of this equation (yes , Elisha also teaches Maths!) has to be our teachers .At present we have 15 teachers in the school , all highly qualified teachers who are motivated and enthusiastic about teaching ...They just love teaching ...and that does come out in the students! And because there is rarely any changeover of teachers , that gives our students consistency ..very important in the exam years . We dont have uniforms and teachers are known on a first name basis... this all fosters maturity amongst the students. All our students are given regular assessments and each is assigned a tutor who meets with them several times during the year , discussing progress and giving both advice and guidance.Career guidance also gets priority during the Senior Cycle as we find it answers a lot of questions that students may have and gives them clarification. Its very satisfying to hear, maybe even a few years after they've gone that former students have found their time with us to be hugely positive... thats enough for me "

WHAT’S HAPPENING IN TRALEE.. Kerry Airport CEO Welcomes Increased €2 million plus Funding KERRY Airport has received a welcome increase in the level of funding to annual support towards the cost of upgrading and purchasing essential technological and communications infrastructure in Farranfore. The €2.2 million investment includes proposed allocations of €911,071 and €1,297,840 under the CAPEX and Public Policy Remit Capital (PPR-C) Schemes respectively. The CEO of Kerry Airport, John Mulhern, said: “We welcome the increase in capital funding from the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport. Such investments are essential for the continued delivery of a safe and efficient service at Kerry Airport. The team at Kerry Airport wish to thank the Department, and in particular Minister Brendan Griffin, for acknowledging the key role that Kerry Airport plays in the development of the tourism
and general business sectors in Kerry.” The CAPEX Scheme covers Exchequer support for safety and security related investment and is concerned with projects that are regarded as having an economic value to the airport or are inherent to the normal ‘business’ of being an airport. The PPR-C covers capital investments associated with safety and security operations at airports that involve costs for the airport but generate no economic return, such as Air Traffic Control, fire services and security services. This Programme of funding provides for support of up to 75% under Capex and 90% under PPR-C for approved relevant projects. The Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, Shane Ross, said: “Today’s announcement is further evidence of this Government’s commitment to the Regional
Airports Programme as part of Project Ireland 2040. A total of €72 million is being invested in safety and security related infrastructure enhancement projects and equipment over the lifetime of the National Development Plan. These grant allocations will help Ireland’s smallest airports to grow to a viable and self-sustaining position as envisaged by the National Aviation Policy.” Ideally located for anyone
wishing to travel on business or pleasure, Kerry Airport services direct flights to seven destinations including: London Luton, London Stansted, Frankfurt-Hahn, Berlin, Alicante & Faro (both summer 2019) with Ryanair, and to Dublin with Aer Lingus Regional. Beauty
HELLO BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE! I HOPE YOU’RE HAVING AN AMAZING WEEK! This week, as the leaving cert is taking place, I thought I’d talk a little about my journey and how I became to be a Makeup Artist. Even though I’m not doing it full time, I’m still working as a Makeup Artist, why? Because I LOVE it. I’m so lucky that I can do what I love anywhere in the world, I loved doing makeup when I was in Australia. So I was thinking this week I would share my own journey and what I would recommend you do if you also want to be a Makeup Artist. You want to be a part of one of the MOST saturated industries in Ireland at the moment. Just letting you know. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, I just want to emphasise that so you’re aware of the industry and it’s relevant to the points that I’m about to make… BACKSTORY When I first initially got into makeup, I literally taught myself through YouTube tutorials, so I was what you call ‘Self-Taught’. I mostly did my own face and occasionally, I did other faces too. Let me just make a point, just because you do your own face perfectly, does not mean you will be good at doing someone else’s face. You learn by practicing, on all different face shapes, ages, skin types etc. I moved to Dublin - where there was A LOT more Makeup Artists, who not only were more experienced than me, THEY HAD QUALIFICATIONS. I was in the middle of interviewing for a job on a Makeup Counter, I got through 4 stages, to the final round. It was between me and another girl. She got the job, I was told by the owner it was because out of the two of us, she was qualified and I was not. So I decided to get my own qualification. Got a job with a huge international brand immediately after, which
led me to become the Senior Makeup Artist on Counter, go to London training and do Makeup on Irish Celebrities for The IFTA’s. QUALIFICATION Initially I just wanted to get a qualification so it would make applying for jobs easier, but now that I have got ITEC qualified and have had experience working as a Makeup Artist I see how important it is to do a course in Makeup. The ITEC Qualification means that you’re Qualified Internationally(AKA - You can work anywhere in the world!) Some of the most amazing Makeup Artists that I follow are ‘Self-Taught’, but they only do makeup on themselves. Doing makeup on clients is completely different. You are putting products on someone’s face, in my opinion, if you are charging money, you should be qualified. Why? Hygiene.
to be more skilled. Working on Counter for example, gives you a direct insight to how brands work, how makeup works, and you get to do makeup on SO many different people. Makeup isn’t just doing someone’s face, it’s an experience. You should be able to interact with you client, make recommendations based on their skin type and use the products that you know will work on their face. BASICALLY… If you want to be a Makeup Artist, amazing! Practise on yourself, post on social media, practise on friends, wash your brushes, build a CLIENT ONLY kit, get a qualification, get experience! If you expect clients to invest in you, be willing to invest time and money in yourself and your kit.
In a Makeup Course, as well as learning about makeup, you learn the importance of being hygienic when it comes to makeup. Little things such as cold sores, eye infections or minor skin conditions are not always visible on the skin and can be passed on VERY easily. If one of my clients has a cold sore, it is a contraindication, which means I cannot do makeup on them. This is something that I never would have known if I did not do a course. Some makeup courses are waaaaaayyy too expensive, unless you want to do special effects or something. You don’t need to pay a fortune, more money won’t make you any more talented, practise will. EXPERIENCE Makeup Artists, if they’re not working from a counter, will most likely charge depending on both the products they use, and their experience. How do you use this to your advantage? If you have more experience, you are likely

FITNESS!
HELLO STRONG PEOPLE I hope you are all having a fantastic week! Me personally… MY LEGS ARE IN BITS. I did leg day my first day back to the gym, not a great decision in hind sight, but it feels so good to be back in the gym! I trained in The Arena Monday & Tuesday and then took a rest day today (Wednesday) & I’ll go again tomorrow, I feel like for the first few weeks back I’ll go 4 or 5 days a week and then up it if I want to, I don’t want to go all hell for leather right now as I want to be happy and motivated to go to the gym. I’ve been tracking macros all week (3 days but still) it’s the most consistent I’ve been in a while and it’s progress. So I’m happy wooooo. I haven’t tried any classes or personal training yet, but I’ll update you if I do! If you’ve been out of whack or lacking motivation and looking for a sign to get back into the gym/exercise this is it! You’ll feel so much better when you do, I promise. Just pick a gym/exercise routine that suits you, everyone likes different
environments and different things work for everyone, once you enjoy what you’re doing and don’t see it as a chore - you know it’s good! I hope you all have a good week!

Tomatoes... the fruit of Love! and delicious too! Tomato season is here and when they are fresh off the vine, locally grown, they taste so different. Its the flavour and the smell... it is a million miles away from the supermarket ones which are not even close ! so here is a tasty sauce recipe for you ... (note; although commonly called a vegetable , technically the tomato is a fruit )
SPICY TOMATO SAUCE
This will coat 1 pound of pasta. Cooked tomatoes are a good source of lycopene, a compound that fights cancer.
INGREDIENTS • • • • • • • •
2 pounds tomatoes, peeled and halved 3 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil 1/2 cup thinly sliced onion 2 large garlic cloves, thinly sliced 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper Salt 1 tablespoon minced basil 1/2 tablespoon minced mint
METHOD Scoop the seeds from the tomatoes into a strainer set over a bowl and press on the seeds to extract as much juice as possible. Coarsely chop the tomatoes and add them to the juice. Heat the oil in a large pan until shimmering. Add the onion and cook over moderately high heat, stirring, until softened and just brown, about 5 minutes. Stir in the garlic and cook for 1 minute. Add the tomatoes with their juice and the crushed red pepper. Season with salt and cook, stirring, until thickened, about 20 minutes. Stir in the basil and mint and serve. Or store in a jar in the fridge for 3 months

LAUGHTER ....THE BEST MEDICINE ! A PRIEST AND A TAXI DRIVER ARRIVE AT THE PEARLY GATES. St. Peter welcomes them and shows them to their homes. For the taxi driver, a beautiful villa looking over a gorgeous field of clouds. “Thank you,” the ecstatic taxi driver said. Anticipating an even bigger mansion, the priest was dismayed when they arrived at a small 1-bedroom apartment. “St. Peter, I’m a little puzzled,” the priest began. “As a clergyman, I devoted decades of my life solely to serving the Lord. How come the taxi driver got a villa, and for me, only a small apartment?” St. Peter smiled. “Up here, we go by results. While you preached, people slept; while he drove, people prayed.”

TORQUING CARS! VOLVO UNVEILS DRIVERLESS-READY PRODUCTION CAR
Volvo will build and sell the XC90-based vehicle, which is equipped with a number of autonomous driving systems, to Uber Volvo has revealed a production version of the XC90 built for ride-hailing app Uber, that the taxi firm says it can equip with its own technology to enable fully-automated journeys. The car is equipped with back-up systems for the steering and brakes, so it can bring itself to a stop if the main driverless systems that Uber installs fail for any reason, and also features battery back-up power. In addition to Volvo’s built-in back-up systems, the vehicle has an array of sensors attached to its roof that allow it to safely operate in urban areas. Following an agreement between the two firms in 2016, Uber will buy tens of thousands of examples of the car between 2019 and 2021.They will be rolled out across the Uber’s network under the supervision of specially-trained employees, although the company says thee vehicles will become fully independent at some point in the future, without any need for a ‘driver’. It is Volvo’s belief that if all vehicles on the road were to become autonomous, there would be significant potential road safety benefits.Håkan Samuelsson, president and chief executive of Volvo Cars, commented: “Our agreement with Uber underlines our ambition to be the supplier of choice to the world’s leading ride-hailing companies.”Eric Meyhofer, CEO of Uber Advanced Technologies Group, added: “Working in close cooperation with companies like Volvo is a key ingredient to effectively building a safe, scalable, self-driving fleet.“Volvo has long been known for its commitment to safety, which is the cornerstone of its newest production-ready self-driving base vehicle. When paired with our self-driving technology, this vehicle will be a key ingredient in Uber’s autonomous product suite.
JLR EMPLOYEES COULD MOVE TO A FOUR-DAY WORKING WEEK
Employees at Jaguar’s Castle Bromwich plant will sign a ballot later this week, deciding if the plant will move to a four-day schedule Over 2,500 employees at Jaguar Land Rover’s Castle Bromwich factory are to vote in a ballot to decide whether the plant will move to a four-day schedule. JLR has said that the shift pattern change will provide logistical and business efficiencies to its manufacturing process.Employees at Castle Bromwich will continue to work the same amount of hours as a five-day week and receive the same pay. The change in shift pattern would see the plant in operation between Monday and Thursday, with staff given Friday as an extra day off. More details will be released once the ballot has been cast.An official statement from Jaguar, said: “We have made it clear that we want to continue to invest in our British plants. This is, however, conditional on us operating in a trading environment in which we and our supply partners can flourish, and that we can deliver the operating efficiencies required as part of our ‘Charge and Accelerate’ transformation programme announced in January.Currently, the Castle Bromwich plant handles production of Jaguar’s XE, XF and XJ saloons, and the F-Type sports car. Production of the current XJ saloon will end at the site on 5 July and, given the amount of time and money JLR has invested in the facility, most analysts expect Castle Bromwich to be readied for the production of its all-electric replacement, which is due in 2020.

FAI NATIONAl P.R.O. OF THE YEAR EXCLUSIVE SECOND IN GROUP AT KENNEDY CUP FOR KERRY: KERRY 1-0 LIMERICK COUNTY& KILDARE 2-1 CLARE Kerry opened their Kennedy Cup 2019 campaign with an impressive win over Limerick County. The boys got off to the prefect start when Cormac Dillon scored a contender for goal of the tournament after only 3 minutes. He won the ball about 25 yards out, swivelled and curled his shot over the keeper. The Listowel Celtic player doubled Kerry’s lead in the 28th minute when he charged down the Limerick Counties keepers clearance and coolly slotted the ball into the empty net. It was almost the perfect game for the Kerry management as all 20 players got game time, kept a clean sheet and scored twice to top the Group after Game 1. Kildare came from behind to beat Clare 2-1. KERRY AND KILDARE SET UP WINNER TAKES ALL CLASH KERRY 1-0 CLARE & KILDARE 2-0 LIMERICK COUNTY Day 2 started with Kerry taking on Clare and Kildare up against Limerick County. And it was the two ‘K’s that took the wins to set up the evening battle to top the table. Kerry started very brightly and were ahead in the 11th minute. The Clare keeper made a great save from Yago Cornide and from the corner he saved again but John Burke was the fastest to react and smashed the ball home. Kerry needed keeper Shay O’Meara to be in top form and he made at least great saves to keep his side ahead. In a tight second half Kerry were always comfortable and so made it 6 points from 6. Following a scoreless first half Kildare scored twice early in the second to also move onto 6 points. They were top of the Group by virtue of having scored four goals to Kerry’s three. KILDARE TAKE THE SPOILS TO TOP GROUP 5 KERRY 0-3 KILDARE & CLARE 3-1 LIMERICK COUNTY Kildare were always going to be the big challenge for Kerry and so it proved. A scrappy goal from a corner in the 13th minute put Kildare ahead and they doubles their lead 10 minutes later following a very good move. They are a very good footballing side

that use strength and speed of transition very well. Credit to the Kerry boys the put up a very good battle in the second half and were unlucky not to get one back through Alex Hennigan. Kildare got their third with a deflected goal. THE STORY OF THE REST OF THE WEEK WILL BE TOLD NEXT WEEK AS WE SEE WHERE KERRY FINISH IN THE BATTLE FOR 8TH TO 16TH PLACE. They say write about what you know and he did! The Kingdom has an unrivalled footballing pedigree, who better than a Kerry sports editor to create an ultimate guide that chronicles the highs and lows of Kerry football? In Kerry Abú: The Ultimate Kerry Football Fan Book Sylvester Hennessy, Sports Editor with the Kerry’s Eye, has created an unparalleled source of reference for Kerry fans. From famous teams who dominated the footballing landscape to players, past and present, who have illuminated the All-Ireland championship with moments of magic, Sylvester has left no stone unturned in this ultimate guide to Kerry football. You’ll find everything here from significant games involving Kerry, including the ‘Civil War’ game; comprehensive lists of teams, titles and scorers throughout the decades; full coverage of all the personal accolades won along the way, such as the All Stars; an explanation for the county’s crest; and details on the county grounds, up to Peter Keane’s first season with the Kingdom. Sylvester told the Tralee Advertiser how the book came about saying that “Kerry Abú is the brainchild of Noel O’Regan of Mercier Press who just happens to be the late Tralee sporting legend Martin Bracker O Regan’s grand- son. “The book (RRP E9.99) was compiled as a reference guide for Kerry football supporters- we’re hoping it provides the answers to nearly all their questions about Kerry football - if you like it’s a little Bible of Kerry football and an ideal present for Kerry football supporters all around the globe. “ PADDY O’SULLIVAN CUP GOES TO GERARD: Round 2 of the World Series of swim, hosted by the Tralee Bay Swimming Club, was for the Paddy O’Sullivan Cup and sponsored by Waterworld Watersports Tralee. Gerard McDonnell took Group A Friday 14th June 2019
SEAN OUT BUT NOT DOWN AFTER DECIDER: Kerry boxer Sean Walsh suffered defeat in his All Ireland boxing decider at the weekend. Sean in a great effort and did all his coaches asked of him but the day belonged to Martin Mongan. HEARTLANDS RALLY THE HIGHLIGHT OF THE WEEKEND: The rallying action last weekend took place at the Heartlands Mini-Stages Rally. There were a few Kerry competitors in action with Keith McCarthy codriving for Cork’s Neil Phelan in their Ford Eacort Mk 2 and Mike Quinn also in the navigators seat as he swopped driving for calling the notes for Eoin Duffin also in a Ford Escort Mk2. KERRY GIRLS WIN INTER AREA FINAL PLUS INTEREST ON THE NATIONAL FRONT: While the local basketball season is over there is still plenty of action at Inter County level. At the weekend the u12 girls defeated Cork 25-20 to win the Inter Area Blitz final. The squad was coached by Tracey Hartnett and Conor Brosnan. This follows the blitz successes of the u14 girls in Dublin, the u16 Girls in Tralee and Cork, the u17 Boys in Cork while the u12 Girls already had a good result in Killarney. The u12 and u14 girls have more action during the month of June. The Irish u18 women’s basketball team are preparing for the FIBA Women’s European Championships that will take place in Skopje in July. Coached by Brosna’s Tommy O’Mahony and with South Kerry’s Siofra O’Shea on the squad the Irish girls won the series played at Gormanstown 2-1. They went down by just three points in the first game 53-56 but won the next two 46-36 and 67-54. DENIS BACK ON TOP AND QUICKEST UP THE HILL: Everyone in Kerry cycling will be delighted to see Denis Dunworth back to his best. He proved this with the win in Round 2 of the Kerry Hill Climb League. He stopped the clock at the top of the 3km climb on the hill up past Crag Cave in Castleisland in 7m35. Ths saw him pip the round 1 winner Connor Kissane by 6 seconds as these were the only 2 riders who were under 8 minutes. Jerry McCarthy took third, Ronan O’Shea fourth and John Fames Griffin rounded out the top 5. Kenmare CC’s Lisa Staplebroek
was the fastest lady on the night in 11.06 ahead of Almha Kissane and Hannah Tilly. This Thursday night, June 13th, the action is back on the roads with the next round of the Round Race League taking place in the Gneeveguilla area hosted by the Sliabh Luachra Cycling Club. TOM IN GREEN IN GERMANY: Having smashed the Time Trial record last week as part of a great start to his season Kerry teenager Tom Moriarty received more news this week. He has been named on the six-strong Irish team for the 32LMV Saarland Trofeo race that will take place in Germany later this month. The O’Leary Stone Kanturk rider has won a stage of the Gorey Three Day, the Donal Crowley Memorial and the Newbridge GP already this season. On Saturday he added the Munster Junior TT title to his list and will be hoping to take that form to the continent from the race which takes place from June 20th to 23rr. MEDALS AT THE MUNSTER TT: Apart from Tom Moriarty Killarney’s Tadgh O’Shea had a good day finishing 3rd in the Juniors. In the M50 race Tom Gentleman won the silver medal riding with Strata3 Velo revulution team Tralee Manor West’s Jerry McCarthy was 3rd while at a younger age Killarney CC’s Cathal Larkin was second in the u12 Boys, Shayna Daly bronze in the u14 Girls, Adam Lenihan was second in the u15’s and Lorcan Daly taking 3RD in the u16’s. The competition was based all over Kerry and Cork with more than 600 games played between Friday and

TALKING SPORT WITH THE TRALEE ADVERTISER Sunday afternoon as well as the always eagerly anticipated Parade. Thousands of players, coaches and parents were in the county for the weekend and hopefully all enjoyed their visit to Kerry. The best result in the camogie from a Kerry side was Causeway who went down in the Division 5 final to Ballyhea/ Milford from Cork. After all the camogie competitions there was only one Kerry side in the hunt for a title. But the Division 4 Shield final was a step too far for Ardfert/St Brendan’s as they went down to Whitechurch of Cork. PARNELLS NEWS: The Parnell’s players really enjoyed their Feile experience. From the matches, hosting the visiting teams, the parade in Tralee and having a piper play the National Anthem before the games the boys and girls felt like top GAA stars over the weekend. Casherslee was a buzz of activity on Saturday evening with players exchanging gifts and making new friendships. The clubs teams made history with both the camogie and hurling sides winning through to Sunday’s semifinals. The club was represented by Robin Porter in the Kerry Poc Fada senior hurling, Saoirse Maloney in the u16 camogie, and best of luck to her in the Munster’s, and Garry Lynch in the u16 hurling competition. The Poc Fada took place on Kerry Head and is an event that should get much more support. Saoirse will be joined by Julianne O’Keeffe (Senior camogie, Clanmaurice) in the Munster finals on the Tipperary Racecourse at the end of the month. The club wants to pay tribute to the NK Hurling Board and Ger McCarthy and his organising team for putting on such and excellent event. The u8 boys travelled to Ballyheigue and relay enjoyed the latest North Kerry Blitz. They all played really well and will continue to train on Tuesdays and Fridays for the summer. Players of the Week: Well done to Michael Broughton at u6 level and Tommy Murray at under 8’s who were named as Players of the Week in their age groups this week. AUSTIN STACKS: Kellogg’s GAA Cúl Football Camp will take place in our own Connolly Park from July 1st to July 5th. All are urged and encouraged to come along. Bookings are now open on-line. The u6’s will train at the usual times on Sunday morning at 11am and on Thursday evenings. The u7’s will have a Blitz on the 24th and another one July 8th and a third on the 15th. The u8’s train as usual and had their GoGames in Na Gaeil. The u10’s are also training at the normal this week while a number of the u12’s were involved in the Feile. They will be back in County League action next week in Division 1, Division 1B and Division 9 while Sunday next they will travel to Naas for the Invitational Tournament where the Tralee boys are the defending champions. The u14 B’s won all their 4 competitions while the u16’s are in County League action with the A’s
and B’s both having a number of games in the next few weeks. The Rock’s autumn football camp will take place in Connolly Park from August 5th to 10th, ST PAT’S NEWS: There was no winner of the Lotto from the numbers drawn 8,14,24 and 29 with the next jackpot will be e6,300 with the draw on Sunday night in O’Dwyer’s Bar with tickets from the usual locations. Details of this year’s Cul Camp are available on the club’s website and bookings are now open. Following a break for the Dingle Way Challenge the Academy was back in action at the weekend. The u6’s were on the astro improving their skills. The u8’s also put in a good session and are improving their skills every week. The u10 players are in preparation for the Go Games with the round this week hosted by Ardfert. In the u12’s County League the boys made the trip to Templenoe and were desperate unlucky to go down by a single point. The whole team put in a great effort and were very disappointed not to get something from the game. There next game is at home to Skellig Rangers. The u14 Boys will be competing in the Central League which gets underway this Monday. The team is in Division 4 and their first game is away to Milltown/ Castlemaine B on the 17th. Stacks B, Laune Rangers B and Ballymac B are also in the Group. The u14 Girls had a busy week losing their first game of the season away to a very physical Castlegregory in Round 5 of the Non County Player County League. They were missing a few players with knock when they went down to table-toppers Austin Stacks B. The last match in the League will be at home to Southern Gaels B. The seniors will be happy that their hard work on the training pitch paid dividends. They defeated Lispole away in Round 5 of the County League. Despite missing a number of players the game was as good as over at the break when they led 3-07 to 0-03. The home side staged a short lived fight back but the win was easily secured on a 3-14 to 1-04 score line. They will be in action again this Saturday, June 15th when they throw-in against St Senan’s at home at 7.30pm in Round 6 and are hoping the home supporters come out and cheer them on. The club congratulates Eoin Sayers and Moyderwell NS team on winning the Cumann na mBunscol Urban shield. The St Pat’s Cul Camp will take place from August 5th to 9th from 10am to 2.30pm and is open to players aged 6 to 13. The cost is e60 per child with reductions for the second and subsequent children from the same family. Bookings should be made on-line or on the first day of the Camp if there are spaces. KERINS O’RAHILLYS NEWS: The seniors were beaten by neighbours Austin Stacks in Round 5 of the County League 0-16 to 1-09. The game was tight was until the Black and Amber hit a purple patch in the second half to secure the points. The Stacks led early on but the guy fought back and a goal from Gearoid Dillane saw Rahillys lead 1-07 to 0-06 at half

time. However that period in the second half took the game away from them. The game was proceeded by a perfectly observed minutes silence in memory of the late Jackie Power who had a life- long association with the Stacks. The Academy enjoyed their trip to John Mitchels for training and with a trip to Dr Crokes this Saturday they won’t be training on Sunday. The u8’s were in Go Games action in mid-week and had an enjoyable visit from Monaleen of Limerick last weekend. The club thanks all the parents for the baking which the players really enjoyed. The return trip will be in the autumn. The u12’s enjoyed their trip to Cromane and a great first half where they hit 4-08 set up an impressive 5-21 to 1-06 win. Brendan Meehan was the Player of the Match on the day. They will play their penultimate League game away to Gneeveguilla this Sunday June 16th. The u14 Boys begin their Central League with a home game against John Mitchels on Monday the 17th at 7pm while the u16’s commence their County League the following Wednesday at home to Annascaul/ Lispole. The club’s Kellogg’s Cul Camp will take place in Strand Road from July 1st to 5th. In the Girls section the club had two teams in the North Kerry u10 Blitz and all the girls, coaches and parents really enjoyed their outing. They were also in Go Games action in mid-week. The u12 Girls will train as usual on Tuesdays and Thursdays each week while the u14 girls went down to Rathmore in the non- county player County League. The u16 girls were delighted that David Moran took their session. With some missing due to exams the u14’s were also involed and 30 players really enjoyed the session. David’s drills could be seen to show improvements after the hour. The Junior Ladies also had a session with David and will train on Tuesday and Thursdays each week. The club is always looking for new members for this and for all teams. BALLYMAC NEWS: The seniors were at home to John Mitchels in the latest round of the County League and it was the Tralee town side that led by three points at the break 0-09 to 0-06. The second side was a very tight affair but a goal from the home side’s Daragh Regan would prove the difference between the sides as Ballymac won 1-17 to 0-17. They travel to take on Kenmare this weekend. In the Underage section the u14 Gold team won the County League Division 9 defeating Milltown / Castlemaine in the final in Currow. The game was a cracker ending 5-09 each but Ballymac just got across the line by 2 points after extra time. The u16 boys begin their Lee Strand County League Division 2 at home to Na Gaeil at 7pm next Wednesday. In the u12 Boys the Blues travelled to Killorglin and won handily while the Gold team also defeated Laune Rangers and also had a win over Stacks. Both teams are away to Spa this Sunday at 6pm. The u10’s were in Community Games action winning 2 of their Friday 14th June 2019
3 games losing out in the semifinals. The u8 girls enjoyed their two games away to the Stacks and will welcome the Tralee side for the return on Sunday. The Boys were in Go Games action this week with Finn Hannah named as the Player of the Week. There was a great turn-out for the u6’s with Scott Fitzmaurice and Natalia McDermott named as the Players of the Week. The clubs Cul Camp for players aged 6 to 13 takes place from July 29th to August 2nd and from August 12th to 16th. There was no winner of the Lotto from the numbers drawn 3, 22, 23 and 24. The next jackpot will be e3,200 with the draw taking in the Kielduff Community Centre. ON THE GREEN’S WINS FOR TRALEE PLAYERS IN THE COUNTY PITCH AND PUTT STROKEPLAY: Killarney’s Damien Fleming continued his winning run as he added the County Senior Strokeplay to the National Matchplay Championships he won on the June weekend. His latest success came on the Castlelisland course and his rounds of 10 and 7 under par saw him win by two strokes from the host clubs James Dignan and Deeppark’s John McGrath who was third on countback. The Tralee club enjoyed a double with Eamon Sheehy’s 14 under enough to see off Deerpark’s Adam Kelly and the Gleneagle’s Sean Ashe in the Intermediate.. Lisa O’Connor was an easy winner of the Ladies Stableford competition. Listowel’s Conor Leahy won the Juniors. 60 players took part. This weekend the action turns to Listowel for their first Masters event in 17 years. CASTLEISLAND GC: In the Mixed Scramble at the Castleisland Golf Course the winners were Mossie Fitzgerald, Annette Galvin and Maria Daly. Second was the team of Ned Collins, Catherine McGroary and Elaine Richardson.
