KERRY SKIN CLINIC PSORIASIS BY DR DAVID BUCKLEY Psoriasis is very common in Irish people, affecting 2% to 3% of the population. In most people it is a harmless condition, although it can be unsightly and sometimes itchy. The most common type of psoriasis is called chronic plaque psoriasis where the person has red, scaly patches of skin on their elbows, knees and scalp. However, psoriasis can affect any part of the body including the face, nails, the groin or penis. Psoriasis is unusual in children and most commonly occurs for the first time in adulthood. One in two people with psoriasis will have another family member affected by the disease as there is a strong hereditary component. Certain things can aggravate psoriasis such as tonsillitis, excess alcohol and severe stress. Psoriasis can occasionally affect the joints when it is called psoriatic arthritis and can cause painful joints which can look like rheumatoid arthritis.
Treatment of psoriasis will depend on its location and severity. Milder cases might just need good a moisturiser to help clear the scales. More troublesome, unsightly or itchy patches of psoriasis may need to be treated with prescription items such as a topical steroid combined with a vitamin D like agent known as calcipotriol (e.g. “Dovobet gel” or “Enstilar foam”) which is only available on prescription from your doctor. These treatments are quite effective and improve the visible appearance of the rash but may not clear it completely. They are not suitable for the face. If psoriasis affects the face, it may respond to a weak topical steroid such as 1% Hydrocortisone or to an eczema ointment known as “Protopic” which again is only available on prescription from your doctor. Severe cases may need to be seen by a skin specialist as they may need to be treated with special light lamps (phototherapy) in hospital or with tablet or injection treatments. People with psoriasis are more at risk of developing high blood pressure, high cholesterol and diabetes so they would benefit from having a general check-up once a year with their GP.

foods in the world. Base, tomato sauce and cheese to top. A simple concept, but one many restaurants in Tralee fail to deliver on. Many local restaurants do an Irish take on the Italian classic - but why fix what’s not broken, especially when the real deal tastes so damn good?! Luckily we found a hidden gem and its only a short drive from Tralee, 20mins away in Castlegregory. Walking up Main St. on a sunny evening to the new Forge pizza hut is an absolute treat in itself. There’s a relaxed vibe to the garden pizzeria, set in the gorgeous backyard of Gregory’s Garden restaurant. The inset design has a neighbourhood look and feel to it and on approach we pass herb gardens at the back, a promising sign for a quality meal ahead. Another sure sign of a good pizza is the wood fire oven inside the container hut - essential for the perfect Friday 21st June 2019
crust! The menu is simple, four pizza choices (no bullshit pineapple toppings or bbq flavourings) just plain and simple Italian goodness with top notch beer/cider/wine to accompany. Sitting in the garden you could easily think you were in Italy
and on tasting the pizza we were definitely transported to Naples on first bite. This spot is a little slice of heaven just a stone’s throw away from Tralee and as close as you’ll get to the real Italian deal… check it out! (Tralee My Love )

The main reason she joined the conference in 1968 was to fill in free time and she also wanted to help and give back to the Tralee area. She was involved in setting up the Friary Lane shop over 35 years ago. The main purpose of the shop at the time was to clothe children and adults who would often arrive to the doors barefoot looking for help. Honor continues to volunteer every Tuesday and Thursday. WHAT’S HAPPENING IN TRALEE.. A Year of Sporting Success In Scoil Eoin The year 2019 will be remembered for a long time as a year of unprecedented sporting success for the students of Scoil Eoin. A group of very talented pupils supported by a very enthusiastic coaching staff brought many honours to the school. The year began with the boys winning the Cumann na mBunscoil urban schools football league for the second year in a row under the stewardship of Mr. John Brosnan and Mr. Sean Farrell. This was a very satisfactory victory when one considers that the school only started taking boys at Junior Infants level 11 years ago. The boys also won the Kerry Schools Competition for the first time in the school’s history. Basketball was another area where the school excelled with the boys winning the Castleisland
senior B competition, the Mercy Mounthawk Cup for the second year in a row, under the excellent tutelage of Mr. Jimmy Diggins and Mrs. Kayrena Bolger. Not to be outdone by their male counterparts the ladies of Scoil Eoin too had wonderful success. The girls also won the Garda Basketball tournament with Mrs. Kayrena Bolger as coach. The Scoil Eoin swimming team also had great success, winning the Tralee Regional Sports Centres, Schools Gala for an unprecedented 12th year in a row, while the boys took second place in the All Ireland Schools Swimming Relay Competition. Over the year, we also had great success on the Athletic Fields, winning individual and relay events at Tralee Harriers Primary School Sports, the County Schools Finals in Castleisland, and in the Cumann na mBunscoil
schools Cross-country under the guidance of Mr. Robert Kennedy. Schools sports coordinator Mr. Joe McMahon said that it was a fantastic year for sport in Scoil Eoin. However,
he stated the emphasis was always placed on participation and enjoyment first, ensuring that children get to a sample as many different sports as possible during their time in Scoil Eoin.

Now is the time to upgrade to Windows 10
When Windows 7 reaches its End of Life phase on January 14, 2020, Microsoft will stop releasing updates and patches for the operating system. It’s likely that it also won’t offer help and support if you encounter any problems. However, that doesn’t mean Windows 7 will stop working on January 14 2020 – you’ll still be able to use Windows 7 for as long as you want. So the good news is that you’re not going to wake up on January 15 to find your Windows 7 PC no longer boots up. But just because you can continue to use Windows 7 in its End of Life status, it doesn’t mean you should . The biggest issue with continuing to use Windows 7 is that it won't be patched for any new viruses or security problems once it enters End of Life, and this leaves you extremely vulnerable to any emerging threats. What's more, if a large number of people continue to use Windows 7 after the End of Life date, that could actually be a big incentive for malicious users to target viruses and other nasties at Windows 7. So, while Windows 7 will continue to work after January 14 2020, you should start planning to upgrade to Windows 10, or an alternative operating system, as soon as possible. Reinstall Windows 10 without CD or USB If you are have issues with your windows pc the best thing to do is reinstall windows following these steps Reinstall Windows 10 While Keeping Files Windows 10 comes with a feature called Reset This PC, using which you can either choose to keep your personal files or remove them and then reinstall Windows. Resetting is a good solution for a PC that isn't working well. The merit of this solution is that Windows does not require any additional downloads nor installation media to initiate the setup. Step 1: To do this, please go to Start > Settings > Update & security > Recovery. Step 2: Click Get started under Reset this PC section Step 3: Choose an option to continue. To reinstall Windows 10 without losing data, you should choose Keep my files. Step 4: After the process has been prepared, a window will pop up saying that your apps will be removed. Click Next to go on. Step 5: In Ready to reset this PC interface, click the Reset button to reinstall Windows 10 without CD or loss of personal files. I would always do a backup of your data just in case

TOP of the class performances from seven teachers during the Rose of Tralee Boot Camp has ensured that the profession will be the most represented at the Rose of Tralee International Festival’s 60th Year Celebrations from 23 to 27 August. The Roses will be well looked after by the magnificent seven teachers who hail from Kerry, Donegal, Westmeath, Wexford, Mayo, Tipperary and Kilkenny. They will be joined by a member of the Air Corps from Kildare, a scientist from Wicklow, and a few farmers from Tyrone, Roscommon and Tipperary.40 men took park in the popular, yet testing, Boot Camp along the Wild Atlantic Way in Kerry last weekend, after which the final 32 men were shortlisted to accompany the Roses in Tralee at this year’s festival. The lads, who already came through an interview process in April, had to pass several endurance tests and teambuilding exercises before they could graduate as fully-fledged Rose Escorts. The Rose of Tralee International Festival’s Communications Manager, John Drummey, said: “The Rose Escorts spent three days in Kerry where they undertook a number of gruelling, yet fun, tasks to prepare them for the festival in August. We are particularly grateful to our friends in Kerry County Council for putting together such a packed programme of activities throughout the magnificent Kingdom of Kerry.”The lads, all aged 21 to 30, had to carry out a range of activities including a hike over Carrauntoohill - Ireland’s highest mountain - in order to prove they will have the stamina to be a Rose Escort. This year’s Rose Escort Boot Camp activities were supported by Kerry County Council, and Kerry Fire Service, Over the course of the weekend, the Rose Escorts experienced the visitor facilities in Killarney, Killorglin, Cappanalea, Rossbeigh Beach and Tralee. KNOW YOUR RIGHTS: BRINGING A DOG OR CAT INTO IRELAND Question I am moving back to Ireland after several years in Germany. Am I allowed to bring my dog and cat home with me? Answer Strict controls are in place for bringing pets into Ireland to ensure that diseases such as rabies are not introduced. If you are moving to Ireland or coming on holiday you can bring your dog or cat with you. The EU system of Passports for Pets allows dogs, cats and ferrets to travel between EU member states. Any private veterinary practice can issue an EU Pet Passport which will certify that the pet is travelling from an eligible country, is identified by an implanted microchip and has been vaccinated against rabies at least 21 days before travel. Cats, dogs or ferrets coming from countries other than the UK, Finland or Malta must be treated against tapeworm between 24 and 120 hours before travel. The time and date of treatment are entered on the passport. Treatment for ticks is not compulsory, but it is advisable to get it at the same time as the tapeworm treatment.
St Pats U10 team that recently participated in the Go Games Blitz hosted by Ardfert GAA.
Registered airlines may choose to carry pets complying with the Pet Passport regulations. Compliant pets may travel on any ferry. The pet must travel with its owner or with a person acting on behalf of the owner (unaccompanied pets cannot travel to Ireland under the EU Pet Passport System). Beauty
HELLO BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE! I HOPE YOU’RE HAVING AN AMAZING WEEK!
This week I have a serious itch to do some beauty shopping, so rather than shopping, I’m going to write my Wishlist here and hopefully maybe that will fight the urge for now. And if not, at least I’ll have a list of everything I want all in one place.
Jade Facial Roller: I have been seeing a lot about these online recently. They supposedly help with water retention in the face, firms and lifts, and reduce inflammation. I get such a puffy swollen face in the mornings so I want to try this out and see if it helps.
Skingredients: I met Jennifer AKA The Skin Nerd last Thursday at her Education Evening for her new Skingredients products and I’ve been dying to try Skingredients ever since. Hopefully I’ll have it soon and I’ll let you all know how I get on!
Bare by Vogue Tan: I’ve heard fantastic things about this tan, but I have two full bottles of Bondi Sands left. Bare by Vogue is definitely next on my list.
Juvia’s Place I AM MAGIC Foundation: Ever since Nikkie Tutorials did a review on this and branded it her go to full coverage foundation, I have been dying to try it. Unfortunately it’s not available on BeautyBay yet so I think I’m gonna bite the bullet and just order from the American site.
Milk Makeup Hydro Grip Primer: I’ve heard such good things about this, I’m dying to try it and I’ve never tried anything from MILK Makeup before.
Christophe Robin Baby Blonde hair mask: This mask is absolutely key for my fellow blondies, especially if you don’t like ashy grey tones like myself. It tones your hair to the perfect baby blonde shade. I used it when I worked in Valonz Haircutters in Sydney, it left my hair feeling so so soft!

BEXBLAH
FITNESS!
HELLO STRONG PEOPLE I hope you are all having a fantastic week! Last week I talked about the importance of consistency so I have been practicing what I preach. If you don’t know, I started a fitness Instagram account, just for me to post any fitness related content and also to be more accountable. @rebeccashorttfit if you wanna go check it out! I got a lot of questions recently about macros, so today I’m discussing that!
For the past year I stopped tracking my food on myfitnesspal consistently, just to give myself a break, I don’t want to have to rely on tracking macros forever, you know yourself. I have started to track them again just to remain accountable to myself and make sure I’m making the right progress. I tracked macros consistently for most of my progress and I found it worked really well for me. I will not be posting my daily calories or macros here, as everyone is SO SO different and my macros/calories are personal to me. If you wish to track macros or figure out what calories you should be consuming I recommend you find a reputable personal trainer (who knows about nutrition) and discuss it with them. Otherwise you can download the free JSA (James Smith Academy) app and calculate them there. Tracking macros is not for everyone, but I know it’s what works for me.
By the way, macros are just the breakdown of food - Protein, Carbohydrates and Fat. My current percentages of macros from my calories on training days are… 33% carbs 36% protein and 31% fat. MEASUREMENTS I really focus on measurements rather than the scales, as being a woman the scales can fluctuate SO much and can be inaccurate when it comes to progress. I do weigh myself daily and take a weekly average from that but I don’t focus on the number.
Rebecca
You can find me on Facebook ‘Bexblah Makeup’ or Instagram ‘Bexblah’. 18

PAIN IN THE ASS… I’m not talking about your job, your partner or your kids for that matter. I’m talking about a literal pain in the butt, as in buttocks or gluteal muscles. Gluteal pain can be a real pain in the ass!!! But enough of the pun… Gluteal pain or “hip pain” is a very common reason for visiting the physiotherapist. Causes of gluteal pain vary. It is not unusual for a back problem to give a pain in the gluteal region even without any sign of a back ache. Dysfunction of the lumbar spine (such as disc pathology, or nerve compression) can cause pain to be referred to the gluteal region. Tight gluteal muscles can also cause pain. One of the gluteal muscles is called piriformis. This muscle is responsible for moving the hip. This muscle lies on top of the sciatic nerve which is the longest single nerve in the human body. It is responsible for sensation and muscle function in the leg and foot. When piriformis gets tight it can compress the sciatic nerve which lies beneath it causing pain. In fact in about 1/5 of the
population, the sciatic nerve actually runs through the piriformis muscle which places these individuals at risk of developing sciatica. If left untreated this pain can progress down the entire leg. If you are experiencing butt or gluteal pain seek professional help. A physiotherapist will advise you if it is simply tight muscles or a referred pain from your back and provide you with advice and treatment to manage this problem. Don’t let a pain in the butt slow you down. Let’s be having ya!!

WHAT’S HAPPENING IN TRALEE.. Super League champions Garvey’s Tralee Warriors sign Daniel Jokubaitis Reigning Men’s Super League champions Garvey’s Tralee Warriors have secured the services of former Killorglin star player Daniel Jokubaitis for the 2019/2020 season. The 25 year old Lithuanian signed for the Warriors this week and will provide additional depth to their roster as they prepare to defend their Super League crown. He enjoyed a stellar year with Keane’s SuperValu Killorglin in the 2017/2018 season being named Men’s National League Division One Player of the Year two seasons ago and helping the Kerry side secure their place in Men’s Super League for the
first time. Prior to that he had played in Germany for BBG Herford as a 20 year old in 2013 before joining Killorglin after a four-year break from the game. Coach Pat Price says he is delighted with his new signing, “Daniel is a really good fit for our roster and we will be able to provide the challenges for him to develop further as a player. He will provide us with extra depth around the perimeter and will slot in very easily to our squad for the coming season.” He says the Warriors new recruit is a formidable competitor on the court, “Daniel is a big guard and
a physical guard with a toughness and tenacity that is respected around the League. He is held in high regard for the manner in which he plays with a toughness and a skillset that very few other players have.” Club Chairman Terry O’Brien says the new signing is sure to become a favourite with the Warriors faithful, “Daniel is a player of real quality who was outstanding for Killorglin over the past two seasons. He is a great addition to our squad and we look forward to seeing him in action for the Warriors as we look to build on the success we enjoyed last season.”

HEALTHY RECIPES for 2019
Red, Hot, and Cool Strawberries The chile-induced heat in this dish doesn’t kick in until the last moment, creating a gentle afterburn that is cooled by sweet strawberries and a smooth bed of tangy cream. Look for chiles de árbol at your local Latin grocer.
RED, HOT, AND COOL STRAWBERRIES
Serves 4
INGREDIENTS • • • • • • •
1 chile de árbol or similar chile, stemmed and seeded 7 ounces strawberries, hulled and chopped into 1/2-inch pieces 1/4 cup castor sugar 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice 2/3 cup plain whole-milk Greek yogurt 2/3 cup cream cheese, softened Fresh mint leaves, for garnish
METHOD Heat a small pan over high heat; add chile, and cook, tossing occasionally, until toasted and a nutty aroma is released, 3 to 5 minutes. Remove from pan, and crush in a mortar and pestle. Stir together crushed chile, strawberries, sugar, and lemon juice in a heavy-bottomed saucepan. Bring to a boil over high, and cook, stirring occasionally, until thickened and syrupy, about 15 minutes. (Strawberries should mostly keep their shape; if they start collapsing, remove from heat sooner.) Remove from heat, and let strawberry mixture cool completely, about 25 minutes. While strawberry mixture cools, whisk together yogurt and cream cheese in a medium bowl until smooth. Cover and chill until ready to serve. Divide yogurt mixture among 4 bowls, and top evenly with strawberry mixture. Garnish with mint leaves, and serve.

TORQUING CARS! NEW LEVC VAN REVEALED WITH 80-MILE ELECTRIC-ONLY RANGE
The London Electric Vehicle Company (LEVC) has unveiled a new urban delivery van featuring the same range extender technology as the LEVC TX London taxi. The LEVC LCV (light commercial vehicle) has an electric-only range of 80 miles and a total range of 377 miles with the help of its range extender. It’s aimed at users who drive around 100 miles a day for, not just last mile deliveries, but distribution to door deliveries too.The idea is that drivers will be able to collect goods outside of a major city, such as London, while using the petrol engine and then switch to EV mode when they enter the city centre or the congestion charge zone/ULEZ in the case of London. It is hoped that this will result in operators saving money thanks to green technology, while also cleaning up the environment, as the distribution to door delivery industry is currently dominated by diesel vans.Full details of the LEVC LCV will be announced at a later date, but the brand assures buyers it will target best-in-class total cost of ownership and has been tested on the million-mile TaxiDur test for LCVs. Joerg Hofmann, CEO of LEVC, confirmed that the van will have a lower price tag than that of the LEVC TX, which starts at £55,599.LEVC also says it will have a high level of active and passive safety, and be as comfortable to drive as a premium MPV. Order books are set to open near the end of 2020.
REVOLUTION IS COMING' - ONE MILLION EVS TO HIT THE ROAD
The plan seeks to force people out of private cars because they are the "biggest offenders for emissions", Transport Minister Shane Ross said. It is noted that there is already effectively no VRT on high-value electric vehicles (EVs) and a very low motor tax rate of €120 - but take-up is still slow. A change in approach is suggested with a new carscrappage scheme to be considered from 2020. New fossil-fuel cars will be banned from 2030 and the granting of NCTs will stop in 2045. One action point says local authorities should develop a regulatory framework on low-emission zones and parking pricing policies. This could see them restrict access to certain parts of a city or town to zeroemission vehicles only. The Government wants one million EVs to be on the roads by 2030. To achieve this, the plan says a charging network that underpins public confidence must be developed. Mr Ross said: "A transport revolution is coming." Measures include the progression of projects including Dart Expansion, Metro Link and BusConnects. Greenways are to be expanded and there will be more than 200km of new cycling networks. Public buses will also be electric. (Kevin Doyle , Irish Independent)
CAR ADVICE WITH HONEST JOHN – YOUR QUESTIONS ANSWERED Taxi evasion
Because I have fused vertebrae at the top of my spine, I have difficulty getting in and out of most cars. Friends have suggested something like a second-hand Land Rover or other SUV, but I fear running costs may be too much for my pensioner income. I thought to solve the problem by buying a de-commissioned London taxi, but, because of my age, could not get insurance from any of the firms that specialise in them. (Insurance is not a problem, otherwise.) Can you suggest a model, other than an SUV that has generous headroom? JC, via email H.J. Says A Fairway, TX1, TX2 or TX4 London taxi would have put you in great pain because it has the most uncomfortable driving position of virtually any 'modern' vehicle. Ask a taxi driver. Your best bet is an MPV such as a VW Caddy Maxi Life, Citroen Berlingo, Peugeot Rifter (/road-tests/peugeot/peugeot-rifter-2018-road-test/); Citroen C4 Picasso/ Space Tourer (/road-tests/citroen/citroen-grand-c4-picasso-2013-road-test/). You're right about SUVs. They may be high off the ground, but the cabin height is not much greater than a normal car.
North West Frontier
I live in Cumbria UK, with poor driving conditions in winter, steep hills and possibly snow/ ice. I do not drive off road. Please would you help me decide which of the following would suit me best: I like the look of either a VW Tiguan 4WD or perhaps a Volvo XC40 4WD or Audi A4 quattro. I will drive about 12,000 miles a year and so petrol variants would be most suitable I think. Budget £30,000 -£35,000. PM, Storth H.J. says ....Go for the Volvo XC40 T4 or T5 AWD and fit all weather tyres after the first set wear out. 32

I’m not going to get rid of my house. I guess she would.” “If I died and you remarried, and she lived in this house,” the wife asks, “would she sleep in our bed?” “Well, the bed is brand new, and it cost us €2,000. It’s going to last along time, so I guess she would.” “If I died and you remarried, and she lived in this house and slept in our bed, would she use my golf clubs?” “Oh, no,” the husband replies. TALKING SPORT WITH THE TRALEE ADVERTISER EVERYTHING’S COMING UP ROSES! the Northern side in their first game then who knows what the final table would have looked like. But for now Kerry hurling will be on a high and looking forward to having another crack at the Joe McDonagh next season.
with “The Voice” Pat Harnett
FAI NATIONAl P.R.O. OF THE YEAR CHAMPIONSHIP SEASON BEGINS IN EARNEST: This Saturday night in Cork the GAA Championship season begins in earnest for both the Kerry seniors and minors. That is not to disrespect the other Munster counties but Kerry were always going to be in the decider. If there was any surprise it was the Cork had such a big win – by more than 20 points – over Limerick. There is no doubt this will give them confidence ahead of the big clash throwing in at 7pm. They were written off by many and still are not expected to give Kerry a real challenge especially in the last 20 minutes. So you could say that Cork are in the ideal place in the run up to the game. But the real test for Cork will be on the field. While this is a new Kerry team and management their progress to date has been on the most part very impressive. And whatever 15 begins or ends as the finishing team in the modern game is as important as the starting one will be an experienced one and one with a tradition of winning. Kerry are going for 7 titles in a row winning each year from 2013 to 2018 inclusive and have also won in 2010 and 2011. This is not Kerry’s fault but dominance like this in a provincial competition is not good for anyone. And it is this dominance and the fact that the game is on at 7pm on a Saturday night has certainly seen a low key build-up in the county and it is only in this week’s papers have seen any real discussion on the game. On the time of the game and the minor game throwing in at 4.30pm this means that anyone leaving Killarney to watch both games would be doing so at 2pm the latest. After the senior game it would be around 8.30 or 9pm when one would be leaving Pairc Ui Caoimhe. And will a long delay in Macroom as a taken it could be after 11.30pm before a person is back in Killarney. And for supporters from South / West or North Kerry you can add another hour. These games should really be taking place on Sunday afternoons but as we know television controls the schedules and travelling supporters are not any concern in these decisions. But none of this will bother Peter

Keane, his management team and squad and all they will be doing is going out to add more silverware to the Kingdoms trophy cabinet. And really anything other than a handy Kerry win will be a surprise. And if the Kerry senior team is enjoying a period of domination over the Rebels then how about the Kerry minors? A Kerry minor team is now looking to win its 34th match in a row and are looking to win the Munster title for the ninth year in a row. As impressive as this is what is more impressive is that the minor is almost a totally new team each year and also the age has changed from u18’s to u17’s. This year’s Munster Minor competitions is a new one with a round –robin format being brought in. Cork will certainly be happy to have seen the demise of the old one where the loser of the semi-final was out and this was their fate in 2015, 2017 and 2018. So this should be a better prepared Cork team but one that has to come back from a 16 point defeat to Kerry a few months back. Like the seniors the minors are under a new management team led by James Costello and probably their biggest challenge will be to avoid compliancy. And if they can do that then like the seniors it looks odds on that there will only be one winner and the first part of a Kerry double will be achieved. HURLER’S BIG SCALP SEES THEM RETAIN MCDONAGH STATUS: The pressure is on the footballers this week and the hurlers can relax after they handled all the pressure they were under last week with aplomb. They needed defeat a former hurling super power, albeit one that is on a downward slope, to retain their status in the sports second competition. They did with a two point win 1-18 to 1-16 and with a performance to match as they saw off Offaly in Tralee. And while they will be delighted to have handed Offaly their 4th defeat in the competition they will look at how close the table at the end was. Laois topped the table with 3 wins and 1 draw but after that Westmeath were on 5 points with Antrim and Kerry tied on 4 points. Both side won of their 4 games and while Antrim were 18 points better off Kerry know they are right up their all the teams in this competition. If they had defeated Friday 21st June 2019
QUICK LOOK AT THE COUNTY LEAGUE TABLES: With nearly all teams in the County Senior Football League 5 divisions having played 6 of their 11 games how are the Tralee sides doing? In Division 1 where seven teams have won 4 of their 6 games Kerins O’Rahillys and Austin Stacks have 8 points with Na Gaeil struggling a little on points. In Division 2 Ballymac are 5 points behind the leaders Glenbeigh / Glencar (11 points) in 5th with John Mitchels in 9th on 5 points. In Division 5 Group A Rahilly’s B are in 6th while in Group B Stacks B and John Mitchels B are on 4 points. BALLYMAC NEWS: In the latest round of the County League the team went down away to Kenmare on a tough evening for football. The home side won 3-3 to 2-08. Their next game is away to Castleisland Desmonds on the weekend of June 30th. The B team will play Currow away on Friday night and then on Sunday play a back game against Cromane at home at 2pm. The Minor Team will play in Division 3 of the Central Region Minor League starting in mid-July. The games start on July 18th with Ardfert, Annascaul/Lispole and Sneem/Derrynane/Templenoe the other teams in the group. In the underage the u16 County League commences this week. The u14’s who won the County League begin their Division 1 Central Region Campaign in a group with Laune Rangers, Austin Stacks, Ardfert and Churchill. Well done to u14 player Micheál Savage who represented the Club in the Féile Skills Competition held in Currans recently. Micheàl placed high in this competition which was a great achievement for him considering he is eligible again in 2020. A number of boys are on the Castleisland District panel that play West Kerry in the Divisional Board Plate Final. The u12’s Blues and Gold defeated Spa in the County League and are away to An Ghaeltacht next. The u10’s enjoyed their trip to Listry and will welcome them back in a few weeks. The u8’s also had a busy time with a Blitz in Cordal. The u6’s and u8 Girls took on Austin Stacks in two enjoyable games. In the u14 Girls Division 5 Non County Players League the Girls defeated ISG and Castlegregory. The u10 girls travelled to Ballyrickard for the North Kerry LGFA Blitz. The Clubs Cul Camps take place from July 29th to August 2nd. In the Ballymac Lotto there was no winner from the numbers drawn 1,4,16 and 19 with the next jackpot being e3200.
ST PAT’S NEWS: There was no winner of the Lotto from the numbers drawn 3,6,7 and 20 and the next jackpot will be e6,400 with the draw in Skelper Quane’s Bar on Sunday night. In the Academy the 6’s were in action and as always put in a good session, the u8’s were missing a few who were taking part in the Blennerville School Family Walk. Rylan Flynn was the Player of the Week. They will be in the St Brendan’s Board Blitz on the 24th. The u0’s were in the Blitz in Ardfert as part of the Go Games series of games with the final round to be hosted by Ballyheigue. They also trained on Sunday with Lainey winning a hotly contested Player of the Week trophy. The u12’s and u14’s had Central Region action this week. The u14 Girls went down to Southern Gaels B. The seniors division 3 status now looks under threat when we lost to St. Senan's last Saturday in a round 6 fixture of the senior Football League. Full time scores were St Pats 0-12 St Senan's 2-10. The Junior B team are away to Castlegregory in Group 3 of the League this Friday at 7.30pm. KERINS O’RAHILLYS NEWS: There was a great win in Round 6 of the Senior League as they saw off Templnoe 2-24 to 1-12. This was a big win as it sees them move onto 8 points and joint top of the table. The first half was a tight affair with the Tralee side only leading by 2 points 0-10 to 0-08. Next weekend is a huge one as the take on An Ghaeltacht in Gallarus on June 30th in a shoot-out. In Division 5A the team had a 3-11 to 1-15 win at home to Dr Crokes C. The Killarney side led early on but the Tralee boys took over and led 3-05 to 1-05 at the break. In the Ladies section the u8’s and u10’s were in Go Games action while the u12’s were due to face Dingle in Currans in their final with the result next week. The u13 Championship will be starting soon and the girls are also looking forward to the Sandra Keane Tournament on July 20th. The u16’s are on a break for their exams with news on the u5 championship due to be released shortly. The Junior Ladies will take on Dingle in their next game. In the Juvenile Academy the young players put in a great effort with the players of the week being: U6 Girls -Saoirse Gentle and Kitty Bowler, U6 Boys - Jonathan Foley, U8 Girls- Aisling Donnelly, U8 Boys - Ethan Quirke and Jamie O' Regan and U10 Boys - Christian Dunne. The u8’s and u10’s enjoyed their Go Games. The u12’s went to Gneeveguilla in Phase 2 of the County League and were ahead 3-04 to 0-05 at the break but had to hold off a spirited effort by the home side in the second half. This Sunday they are set to play their final County League game against Foilmore at 6pm in Ballyrickard. The u14’s and

TALKING SPORT WITH THE TRALEE ADVERTISER u16’s began their Central Region campaign this week. KENNEDY CUP FINAL ROUND-UP: Last week we had the story of the Group games at the Kennedy Cup. From there Kerry lost on penalties to Sligo/Leitrim and went down to Drogheda. But they ended the week on a high defeating South Belfast 5-0. Kerry finished 15th overall and should retain their second seeding for next season. But more importantly is how the players have developed over the whole process. They will also have made memories that will they will have long after their playing days are over and will also have made friends that they will always have. They will also have learned some valuable life lessons and will have gotten what was for many their first taste of independence as they were away from home for 5 nights. All the players were a credit to their parents, clubs and the League. There were many outstanding moments during the week and each player will have their own ones. There was also many great shows of sportsmanship such as the way the Sligo/Leitrim players behaved after defeating Kerry on penalties. There were no over the top shows of emotion but they waited to celebrate until they had shaken hands to all the Kerry players and indeed they had a special word for the players that missed their spot kicks. The Kennedy Cup is a special tournament and a special week and the 2019 Kerry squad and management certainly enjoyed their experience .The players eligible to represent Kerry in 2020 Can now start dreaming,. KERRY’S 13’S AND 15’S READY TO TACKLE THE BIG BOYS IN THE LEAGUE OF IRELAND PHASE 2: The Kerry 15’s will play Bohemians, Cork City, Galway United, Shamrock Rovers and Waterford in Phase 2 of the League of Ireland. They are in Group 2 of 2 made up of the Top 3 teams from each of the Phase 1 Groups. The 13’s go into the Shield with 12 teams split into 2 groups of 6. In Kerry’s Group are Cabinteely, Cobh Ramblers, Shelbourne, Waterford and Wexford. TRALEE BOARD KNIGHTS: There are a number of small groups out there who don’t get much media recognition and
in this column we want to hear from all of them. This week we are delighted to give the Tralee Board Knights (what a great name) their first mention. They meet in the Abbey Inn to play a wide range of games including the more popular ones like Catan, Ticket To Ride, Pandemic, Carcassonne, 7 Wonders, Magic Maze and many more ranging from the simple to the moderately complicated with the main emphasis being on fun and banter. While they try and stay away from the standard Monopoly, Connect 4 and Trivial Pursuit they are open to everything! Adults are welcome to bring in their own games or play the ones provided on Thursday nights where there is the small coverage charge of e3. KERRY JUST COME UP SHORT ON THE HOME CREASE: With Limerick 4’s through the Kerry 4’s and Cork Harlequins 4’s were left in a battle for the last place in the Munster finals. The Cork side posted a total of 126 for 9 which was too much for Kerry and when their opening partnership fell for 32 the rest of the team did not put up much of a battle. The Kerry 3rds once again fell fowl of the weather after they had made a promising start to their game with the Cork County 3rd in the Mardyke. They were on 87 for 1 but once again they had no control over the weather and had to endure another abandoned game. This weekend in the Junior T20 Blast at the Mardyke County Kerry 2 face Cork Harlequins 2 in the second semi-final on Saturday. On Sunday in the Division 2 T20 Cup at Farmers Cross County Kerry 3rds are in the semi-finals. WARRIORS GET THEIR MAN: Garvey’s Tralee Warriors have signed star player Daniel Jokubaitis from Keanes Supervalu Killorglin as they start planning for the new SuperLeague season. The 25 year old Lithuanian stared in the SuperLeague with Killorglin in the last two years and was the Men’s National League Division One Player of the Year two seasons ago. Warriors Coach Pat Price believes his new signing will be a big boost to the squad. “Daniel is a very good fit for our roster but we will also provide new challenges for him as a player.” HARRIERS DO WELL AT MUNSTERS: Tralee Harriers athletes did not have far to travel as the Munster

Juvenile Championships u12’s to u19’s took place on the An Riocht track in Castleisland. Amongst the Tralee athletes who brought home medals were Rebecca Falvey (u17 girls 100 and 200m gold), Cillian Griffin (u18 boys 100m and 200m gold and bronze in the triple jump), Oisin Spillane (gold in u19 boys 1500 and 3000m), Kirby Ann Ryan (u16 Shot gold), Jordan Kissane, Fionann Ryan, Cathal Murphy and Paddy Falvey CONOR BACK ON TOP OF THE CYCLING PILE: Round 2 of the Kerry Road Race League was hosted by the Sliabh Luachra Cycling Club and based on the 6km circuit around Gneeveguilla. With the handicap start the A4’s were first off followed 3 minutes later by the A3’s and the A1’s and 2’s starting another 3 minutes back. After 4 laps a group of 5 A4’s were just ahead of a group of A3’s with Conor Kissane leading the chase 30 seconds back. Starting the last lap things were all back together but the pace got to some of the riders and the splits came. Stephen Gillman and Kissane sprinted clear as the line approached and Kissane easily got around the O’Leary Stone Kanturk rider to come home easily in the end. The rest of the top 10 came in in ones and twos within 30 seconds of each other. Following the first two home were Killarney CC’s John Brosnan with two riders from the host club, Denis O’Connor and Dan Murphy taking 4t and 5th. 6th to 10th were Jerry McCarthy Tralee BC, Darren Burke Killarney CC, Cathal Moynihan Tralee Manor West, Sean Dineen Sliabh Luachra and Shane Flynn of Tralee Manor West. Kate Murphy won the u12 race for the host club and her club mate Dinny Murphy took the u14’s top spot. Killarney CC’s Patrick Galvin was the fastest u16 on the night. The action next Thursday night will be on the short course for Round 3 of the Time Trial League using the Farranfore to Tralee route. ROWING CLUB JUST FAIL TO GET ENOUGH NUNS FOR RECORD! The Tralee Rowing Club was delighted with the support and the turn-out for their recent attempt to break the Guinness World Record for gathering the largest group of people dressed as nuns in the one place. The club organised the event in conjunction with Pieta House as part of the Feile na mBlath Festival in the town park. Nearly 800 persons took part in the event and in the nights Friday 21st June 2019
entertainment. Mary Boner, Tralee Rowing Club Chairperson said she was “humbled by the support for Pieta House and Tralee Rowing Club at the Guinness World Record attempt on Saturday. Sincere thanks to all those who planned, organised, assisted, donated and participated in the event. The money raised will be put to great use by both groups”. ON THE GREEN – PITCH AND PUTT KILLARNEY’S DAMIEN FLEMING WINS AGAIN: Damien Fleming continued his great success winning the Munster Senior Gents Strokeplay at Listowel beating Cork’s John Walsh and Kieran Earls. He is now the Number 1 player in the country, the first time a Kerry player holds this honour since Tralee’s Jonathon Goodall was the top player in 2012. Tralee’s Padraig Hobbart was one of the players to make Sunday’s Intermediate playoff but finished outside the prizes. Four Kerry Ladies took part in the Ladies event including Tralee’s Lisa O’Connor. The County Board were generous in their praise of Listowel for the way they hosted the event. The Tralee club has finished 5th in the Bob Doherty Memorial InterClub Strokeplay with Deerpark winning the title for the first time in 5 years. This weekend the Killarney club will host the National Gents Strokeplay Qualifiers getting underway at 8.30am with the dress code in force for all the participants. ON THE GOLF COURSE Castleisland GC: In the 9 Hole Senior competition the winner was Donal DeBarra with Thomas Brennan in second and Patsy Sweeney in third place. The Seniors competition saw Patsy Sweeney take the win from Tom Brennan and Cyril Quigley. In the 18 Hole Single Stableford sponsored by the Ballyroe Heights Hotel the winner was Kevin Kelliher with Brendan Keehan in second. Tralee CG: In the MC 8 sponsored by An Riocht Marble and Granite the winner was Richard Rafferty with Padraig Moynihan second and Daniel O’Loughlin third. The Best Gross was won by Eoghan O’Donnell with the Divisions won by David Leen, David J Sheehy, Tony O’Halloran and Patrick O’Connell. It is a big weekend for the Tralee Senior Cup side as they take on Dooks in Kanturk this Saturday. If they progress they will face the winners of Doneraile and Berehaven in the afternoon. A win here will put them into Sunday’s final with a Senior Cup semi-final in Tramore in August the prize.
