LEGAL MATTERS CORNER MIRIAM MC GILLICUDDY ANSWERS YOUR LEGAL QUERIES

David wants to get a good physiotherapist to help him out with a work related injury he is also suffering from some post accident trauma and is wondering about a reputable counsellor to talk to. Health and Social Care professionals are now being regulated under an organisation called CORU. CORU is from the Irish Word Coir meaning fair, just and proper. CORU is the umbrella body that regulates health and social care professionals. There are a huge variety of such professionals, and each has their own registration board under Coru. Even though the act providing for CORU, and the regulation of such professionals was enacted in 2005 it has been a careful, slow road to registration of all the professional types. Those currently with active registers includes Dietitians, Dispensing Opticians, Medical Scientists, Occupational Therapists, Optometrists, Physical Therapists, Physiotherapists, Podiatrists, Radiographers, Radiation Therapists, Social Workers and Speech and Language Therapists. Those whose registration has yet to open are Clinical Biochemists Counsellors Orthoptists Psychologists Psychotherapists Social Care Workers. For the list with live registers CORU has established ethical and behaviour codes for those professionals as well as recognition of their qualifications and providing education standards. David therefore can look up any physiotherapist that he is proposing to use to make sue that they are registered with CORU as this provides a certain amount of security for him that he is dealing with a professional who will abide by high standards in the area. Moreover CORU will be ensuring that all these professionals engage in continuing professional development and lifelong learning. The website to look up to check a relevant professional is bona fide and registered is www.CORU. ie. Registration for counsellors/psychotherapists is on the way. Covid has delayed much of the earlier work in these areas. In relation to all these professionals if a member of the public, their fellow employees and managers has a complaint against someone it will be examined by a preliminary committee and if there are sufficient concerns that will necessitate the issues being brought to a professional committee which might recommend a sanction depending on the seriousness of the complaint. This fitness to practice procedure will ensure that persons unsuitable for the profession will be weeded out. There have only been a few of these cases to date involving e.g., convictions for theft and fraud offences, not being competent in the job etc. In this way the Board can show that it is performing a useful function in that it is chasing after professionals who fall below the expected standard while attesting to the fact that all the others in the profession are adhering to high standards This act is a great extension to allow meaningful regulation of the health and social care sector Lawquip: Life is like a 10-speed bicycle. Most of us have gears we never use.” If you have a legal query or need further information on any item addressed in this column please send in your query to miriam.mcgillycuddy@gmail.com Miriam McGillycuddy, Solicitor, Derryana, Ballyard, Tralee, County Kerry. Cara Credit Union To Participate in Government’s New Brexit Impact Loan Scheme Cara Credit Union has been approved to participate in the Government’s new Brexit Impact Loan Scheme (BILS) for Irish businesses, which is run by the State-owned Strategic Banking Corporation of Ireland (SBCI). Cara Credit Union with branches in Tralee, Castleisland, Killorglin, Ballyduff and Causeway , is part of a group of five of large Credit Unions, all members of Metamo, which have been approved to offer loans within the new scheme. Metamo is a joint venture between 16 of Ireland’s largest Credit Unions and the financial services company FEXCO. It was launched in July 2019, with the aim of supporting Credit Union viability and sustainability through providing an enhanced range of services and helping with support in key areas such as lending, risk management and technology delivery. The five Metamo members,

including Cara Credit Union, are the only Credit Unions that have been selected to offer loans under the new Scheme, which will provide funds to micro businesses, small businesses and primary producers that have been affected by the impact of Brexit. Cara Credit Union will be able to offer loans to firms and producers that rely on the UK for at least 15% of their imports or exports. The minimum loan value is €25,000, and the loans will have a term of between one year and six years. Pa Laide, CEO of Cara Credit Union, said: “ We are delighted to be able to extend our suite of business loans to include the Government’s new Brexit Impact Loan Scheme (BILS). We are now, more than ever, determined to help businesses in our community, without which we simply would not have a community. To this end, we are extending our

suite of business loans for all eventualities. If you need some financial support, call us, we are here to help” Alan Kelly, Chief Executive of Metamo said: “Metamo’s participation in this new Loan Scheme is great news for the five Credit Unions selected and for the communities that they serve. The real winners from this announcement are

the small businesses that our Credit Unions will help through this new Scheme in locations across Ireland.” To find out more see Cara Credit Union’s website www. caracreditunion.ie. Pictured are Pa Laide CEO Cara Credit Union and Sarah O’Regan Head of Credit Cara Credit Union

Dr Colm O Loghlen wins Colgate Caring Dentist of the Year 2021.. Read the winning story below... Dr Colm O’Loghlen of Bridge Street Dental Practice, Tralee has been announced as this year’s Colgate Caring Dentist of the Year 2021 hosted at The Intercontinental Hotel, Dublin 4 last Saturday night. Dr O’Loghlen was recognised for the compassionate treatment and exceptional clinical skills he provided to a traumatised teenager after the teen lost his two front teeth in a face-first fall from a wall. The Tralee dentist was nominated by the 15-yearold’s mother who put a call out on social media after being told that there was no dentist available in the local hospital to treat her son. Thankfully, Dr O’Loghlen answered her call. “My son was holding his two front teeth in his hands, and we felt hopeless,” the boy’s mother said. “It was clear that he had done severe damage to his face and teeth.” By this time, it was late on a

8

Friday 26th November 2021

Saturday night and her son was becoming increasingly distressed. Dr O’Loghlen responded and told the mother and son to meet him at the surgery immediately. There, despite the stitches in the boy’s lips and significant swelling on his face, Dr O’Loghlen managed to reimplant the two front teeth successfully. “When we arrived at the surgery that night, my son was distraught. But Dr O’Loghlen quickly put us at ease. His calm demeanour reassured us that we were in safe hands, and we are sincerely grateful for the help we got that night, and the care we still receive. “Dr O’Loghlen has not only helped to restore my son’s teeth, but he has also restored his confidence too. As a mother, I cannot thank him enough.” The annual Colgate Caring Dentist of the Year awards

recognise dentists that have provided dental treatment and care over and above expectations, often with transformative effects, as nominated by patients and the public.

Call Chris or Colette Tel: 066-7126399 or e-mail : traleeadvertiser@gmail.com

As well as winning the overall honour, Dr O’Loghlen was also announced as the regional winner for Munster.

Audiology Medical Services’ Online Christmas Carol School Competition Returns Doubling Prize Money to €2000 On the back of the phenomenal success of last year’s competition, Audiology Medical Services today launched their nationwide Online Christmas Carol School Competition, with a prize of €2000 for the winning school, chosen by the public. Last year, the competition was deservedly won by Cara Junior School from Banduff in Cork following their rendition of ‘Let it Snow’. Cara Junior School scooped the impressive €1000 prize, winning by the minutest margins of just 0.5% of the votes after a staggering 18,500 public votes were made for all finalists selected. Speaking at the launch of the competition, Kay Lewis, Chief Operating Officer of Audiology Medical Service, one of Ireland’s leading independent hearing healthcare companies, said: “We were blown away with the popularity of last year’s competition, so running our Christmas Carol Competition again this year was a no brainer. We also made the decision to double the prize money for the winning school, so we are hoping for even more entries than the 150 or so from last year.”

The competition is open to all primary schools across the country and entering is simple. Teachers just need to email a video or link of their class singing their favourite Christmas Carol to Audiology Medical Services. A panel of judges will then select the finalists from all entrants, with bonus points given to any class that includes Lámh or sign language in their video. Finalists will then go forward to an online public vote to decide the winner of the €2000 prize. Kay went on to add: “Having a hearing loss can be challenging at any time of the year, but none more so than during the Christmas season. The aim of this competition is to raise awareness among young people on the importance of hearing, and how important the sounds of Christmas are to us all, especially a nice Christmas Carol.” If singing a Christmas Carol doesn’t suit, students can also enter Audiology Medical Services Festive Colouring Competition. Children aged between 4 & 12 years of age have a choice of 3 Christmas designs for a chance to win

a €100 shopping voucher. Designs can be downloaded on the Audiology Medical Services website. A family-owned business, Audiology Medical Services is leading the way in Ireland when it comes to the provision of expert and comprehensive child-centred and familyfriendly diagnostic audiological assessment of infants, children, and adolescents. With International studies proving that early detection of hearing loss will result in improved academic and social outcomes for hard of hearing children and their families,

Audiology Medical Services ensures that every child that attends an appointment has the most accurate assessment possible. Full details on how to enter both Christmas competitions, along with terms and conditions, and downloadable consent form are available on www. audiologymedicalservices. ie. Deadline to submit entries for the Christmas Carol Competition is midnight on Tuesday November 30th, 2021 and Friday December 10th for the Christmas Colouring Competition.

a myriad of innovative and exciting projects. The WALK PEER programme in particular is a great local and social project as it will support and encourage young people with disabilities in Kerry by affording them the opportunity to access routes leading into education, training and employment.” According to Inspired’s Manager Liz Maher, “We are thrilled to be part of this national programme which bridges a gap in the delivery of the whole school approach, not to mention the fact that it addresses the right for people with disabilities to work as per Article 27 of UN Convention of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities”. This innovative programme was designed and crafted by a dedicated team in WALK over a number of years, piloted in partnership with Special Schools in County Louth and south Dublin. According to WALK’s Careers & Employment Coordinator, Des Henry, “WALK PEER aims to develop pathways to further education, training

and employment in the open labour market for students with special educational needs and maximise their career aspirations in life”. In support, Liz Maher said “Inspired and WALK will pool resources to ensure that students with disabilities are provided with optimal choices based on their interests, aspirations and values”. Inspired Chairperson Kay McCarthy said “This Supported Transition programme dove tails with

the ethos of the organisation, as we are very focused on education and employment for people with Intellectual Disabilities. Great weekend at Kellihers Toyota!

THE TEAM AT THE CLINIC ARE HERE TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTIONS ON COSMETIC AND HAIR RESTORATION ISSUES. Q: I would like to something to give my skin a boost before Christmas as I feel my skin looks dull and tired and it looks like it’s lost a lot of plumpness and lustre. Any advice? Jenny The Kelliher family of Kellihers Toyota Rathass Tralee who became the new associated sponsors of Kerry GAA. Teresa and Tim Kelliher, Aine and Ted Kelliher. Photo Joe Hanley

Mary replies .... Hi Jenny . Help is at hand , my suggestion would be a course of Skinade. Skinade is available in CHRC in the Bon Secours Tralee. Skinade is a drink that supports the skin all over your body. It works from the inside out to rebuild your collagen matrix below the skin surface. It boots hydration and reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. As we age, we loose collagen at the rate of 1.5% per year from our early twenties. This loss results in wrinkles, fine lines , dry, blemished and thinning skin. Collagen is a critical part of the structure of the dermis and gives our skin its plumpness. Drinking Skinade results in firmer more even toned, hydrated , radiant , youthful and healthier looking skin. It contains collagen peptides and Vitamin B complex, Vitamin C, lysine and omega 3&6 As well as working on your skin, it will also work on healthier and faster growing hair and nails.

Pedal Power as Tour de Munster raises over 500k for Munster Down Syndrome

2021 will certainly be a year to remember for Tour de Munster, not only as the Tour celebrated its 21st edition, but also raising a phenomenal €522,201- its largest sum to date for the Munster branches of Down Syndrome Ireland. The grand total was revealed at a cheque presentation on Saturday, November 20th with cycling legend and long term supporter of the Tour, Sean Kelly, presenting the cheque. Since the tour began in 2001, over €3.9 Million has been raised for charity with over €3 million raised for the Munster

branches of Down Syndrome Ireland. Funds raised as a result of Tour de Munster play a significant role across each Munster branch of Down Syndrome Ireland who provide a range of vital supports and services to children and adults with Down syndrome and their families. In their quest to raise vital funds and awareness, this year’s Tour saw over 150 amateur cyclists make their way across the six counties of Munster, travelling over 600km from August 5th -

8th, supported by friends, family members and many volunteers along the way. Sean Kelly, who celebrated his 16th Tour de Munster, once again led the 150 cyclists through the beautiful towns and villages of Cork, Waterford, Tipperary, Limerick, Clare and Kerry, covering an average of 150 km per day. Enda O’Brien of Down Syndrome Kerry said, “Thanks to the continued support of Tour de Munster over the past twelve years, muchneeded funds have been

raised to continue to provide vital services and supports for our members with Down syndrome in Kerry. We are extremely grateful for every single person’s support, from the cyclists to the volunteers and the public. Special thanks also goes to the tour's Kerry sponsors for their fantastic support. Congratulations and well done to everyone involved, the sum raised is astonishing and we can’t thank you enough for your hard work and dedication.”

‘Tis the season for festive fun at Siamsa Tíre

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas at Siamsa Tíre. They’ve organised a festive line-up that features music, dance, theatre, and fun events for all the family. The seasonal entertainment kicks off on Saturday December 4th with the Irish Rambling House. Presented in partnership with Radio Kerry, this show promises songs, stories, and plenty of side-splitting laughs from special guests Annmarie O’Riordan and Bryan Murphy. There will be more singing and dancing in store on Thursday December 9th when Abba Forever take to the stage. Music of a more classic kind will entertain audiences on Friday December 10th when the Ficino Quartet perform. this classical ensemble has a vast chamber music repertoire performed nationwide . The Kingdom Trad Orchestra will hold their first ever Christmas concert on Saturday December 11th. Conor Moriarty and Seán Kelliher founded this orchestra in September, bringing some of the best young musicians in Kerry together to perform as

an ensemble. This year’s Christmas lineup at Siamsa Tíre also includes events for families. On December 17th and 18th, there’s a production of Disney’s Aladdin Kids by the Bryan Carr School of Performing Arts. Ballet Ireland will perform the Nutcracker Sweeties on December 18th and 19th. They are bringing a modern twist to this classic Christmas story by setting it in a famous department store in Dublin. So too will a trip to the annual Christmas panto. Presented in association with well renowned Oliver Hurley Productions, this year’s panto is Cinderella and takes place from December 29th to January 4th. Keeping you entertained isn’t all that Siamsa Tíre aims to do this festive season. The team here also want to help you solve your gift-buying dilemmas. , a Siamsa Tíre gift voucher or a 2022 performance ticket could be the answer. After a year and a half of being closed due to the pandemic, the team at Siamsa

Awaken Your Inner Child This Christmas at Ballyseedy By Georgie Downes

CAN’T WAIT TO GET YOUR CHRISTMAS VIBE ON? Worry not. Ballyseedy Home and Garden officially launched their Christmas line-up this week with a drinks and nibbles party featuring teasers to whet your appetite for their yuletide treats running throughout the month of December, kicking off on Friday 3rd. The event also showcased this year’s theme: Awaken Your Inner Child. In keeping with this theme, the Ballyseedy group will be fundraising in-store for the Tír na nÓg charity that provides a loving family unit for orphaned children in Tanzania. This year’s festival has been designed in line with

government guidelines with an emphasis on the health and safety of customers and staff. All craft workshops will take place in a covered outdoor space and numbers will be limited. Ballyseedy have really outdone themselves again this year with a eye-popping display of Christmas decorations. Festooned with garlands, baubles and twinkling fairy lights, the whole premises exudes a magical atmosphere sure to get you into the Christmas spirit. On the activities lineup, you’ll find surprise pop-up acts, jolly pottery classes, festive arts & crafts, Chrimbo ceramics & print sessions, carol singing and the muchanticipated and ever-popular ‘Breakfast with Santa’; a true delight for the smaller members of your household. Plus, there’s a Christmas BBQ. The Ballyseedy Ski lodge café will be open for an array of delicious savoury and sweet treats with a new Food and Tipple offering at the Christmas BBQ. Who knew that some of Santa’s elves nest in Ballyseedy Woods? Well, they

do and this year, the busy little elves have been very clever creating a magic letterbox especially for the Children of Kerry. If someone you know has a Christmas list ready to go, pop into Ballyseedy and post it off to Santa; the elves promise it will reach the man himself in good time. For event updates and bookings, visit ballyseedy. eventbrite.com or ask instore and follow Ballyseedy on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram for Christmas news, competitions and lot’s more.

Warriors Take Templeogue to Task to Remain Unbeaten at Home Garvey’s Tralee Warriors produced a performance of real quality, determination and resolve as they saw off the challenge of Griffith College Templeogue in convincing fashion on Saturday night. The Warriors led throughout and a hugely impressive third quarter, in which they outscored the visitors by 2512, moved the Warriors into position to see out the win by 99-90 in the end. Templeogue got to work early in the fourth in their attempt to turn the contest around with scores from Lorcan Murphy, Mellini and Puff Summers but threes from Quigley and captain Fergal O’Sullivan kept the visitors

at arm’s length. With no sign of a dramatic comeback the game meandered its way to the inevitable conclusion with Calixte turning on the style with quality scores from either side of the arc. Lorcan Murphy did provide an entertaining cameo late on with his typical acrobatics, but it served simply to add some respectability to the final scoreline as the Warriors sealed an impressive 99-90 win in the end. The Super League takes a break for the Irish international next weekend but the following weekend Garvey’s Tralee Warriors will attempt to make their way to the Cup semi-final for the third season in a row

when they host Moycullen at the Tralee Sport Complex on Saturday 4th December with

tip off at 7.30pm.(Photos by Liam Ryan )

TURKEY TOO DRY? WE'VE ALL BEEN THERE! Yes . at some point in our life most of us have all gone through it! The beautiful Christmas Turkey looks fantastic on the outside but is dry as pepper under that golden brown skin .And nothing ruins a Christmas Day Dinner more than dry Turkey! Now here's what to do... simply salt and water... otherwise known as Brine! And watch that Turkey cook to perfection!

Putting your Turkey in a brine keeps it moist & juicy and is very simple to do. Here are my top tips for it. The basic proportion of salt to water for whole turkey is about 5 percent salt by weight for the quantity of water. This gives you a relatively mild brine designed for a whole turkey. When brining smaller foods, you can get away with using a stronger brine for less time, but in order for the brine to gently penetrate a whole turkey, you're better off with a 5 percent solution. There's no need to heat the water if you're making basic brine, but if you want to infuse it with spices and/or herbs, you'll want to bring half of the brine to a boil with your desired ingredients. Then, let it cool. Some popular brine add-ins include bay leaf, peppercorn, star anise, whole allspice, dried chile, rosemary sprigs, garlic and orange zest. Pop the turkey into the fridge and let it brine for at least 8 hours (and up to 18 hours). Just don't leave the turkey in the brine for longer than recommended—over-brining can render the bird too salty and turn the texture spongy. If you still aren't ready to roast the turkey after 18 hours, you can remove it from the brine, rinse it, and refrigerate it for as long as two days leaving it uncovered for part of this time will give you a crisper skin. A wet-brined turkey can be slow to brown in the oven, so, for the best results, remove the turkey from the brine 8 to 12 hours before you plan to roast it. Rinse and thoroughly pat it dry with paper towels and let it sit in the refrigerator, uncovered

FAI NATIONAl P.R.O. OF THE YEAR BISHOP MOYNIHAN CUP’S NEW PLACE OF RESIDENCE DECIDED BY LOCAL DERBY; The hope of an all Tralee Garvey’s Senior County Championship 2021 became reality last weekend when Austin Stacks and Kerins O’Rahilly qualified for the final. The stats guys have been busy and are saying its 85 years since the two sides played each other in a County final and 58 years since there was an all Tralee final. The details of the final were not announced at the time of writing but the preferred option is on Sunday afternoon December 5th in Austin Stacks Park. Both sides will certainly reflect on their eventful semi-final with both sets of management knowing they have plenty to work on before the big derby. The Stacks rode their luck a little especially with the goals they scored but when the game went to penalties they were unerring and Wayne Guthrie would always be expected to save at last on kick. A number of the Stacks scorers play or have played soccer and that was evident with the quality of their spot kicks. Kerins O’Rahillys showed great selfbelief when coming from behind to defeat Dr Crokes in a game that certainly kept the referee on his toes. As an aside it is amazing that experts can watch the same game and come out with totally different reactions. Radio Kerry Sport commentators Tim Moynihan and Ambrose Donovan voiced their displeasure with a lot of the tackles and off the ball fouls that they saw in the game while analyst Billy O’Shea said it a very enjoyable and exciting championship game apart from one or two over the top tackles. But not of that will bother the Narries as they look to take a second Black and Amber scalp in a row. William Harmon’s side will certainly not be happy with just reaching their first decider since 2008 while Wayne Quillinan’s charges will be looking to add the County Championship to the Club championship trophy that’s already in the cabinet. It will be a fascinating build-up over the next two weeks with the banter at its best in Tralee. Whichever side you are on enjoy every minute of it. And make sure you display your colours where you can. GAA APPOINTMENTS AND NOMINATIONS: Ahead of the County Convention it has been announced that Terrance Houlihan has been appointed as the Development Officer and Aine Ni Shuilleabhain is the Children’s Officer. As County Board Chairman Tim Murphy’s time in the hot seat comes to an end he has been nominated by Kerry GAA for the role of Munster Vice- Chair.

TWO GAMES IN TRALEE/ ST BRENDAN’S BOARD CHAMPIONSHIP: There are two games in the Tralee / St Brendan’s Board Championship this Sunday with results to be decided on the day. The first named team has home advantage with both games kicking off at 2pm. They are St Patrick’s versus Ardfert and Na Gaeil against Ballymac. STACKS JUVENILE NEWS: The whole club is buzzing after the win by Wayne’s Warriors after the most nail-biting of games and of course the dreaded penalty shoot-out. Well done to all the players and management and everyone is now looking forward to the big day – set to be December 5th. The juveniles present were thrilled to have witnessed such a cliff hanger and what skills from the spot were on show from Sean Quilter, Michael O’Donnell, Adam Curran, Michael O’Gara and The Star while Wayne Guthrie pulled off a great save from St Brendan’s Board first penalty. Well done to the clubs u15 boys who have qualified for the final of the Greater Tralee Area football tournament. Their opponents will be Ardfert on the weekend of December 4th-6th. The club is delighted for its members who are on the Tralee District panel that have reached the County Final. The big fundraising Race Night will take place this Friday and the club is hoping for as much support as possible with horses and races available to sponsor. There will be 10 races on the night with a Race of Legends, an auction, best dressed lady and gent competitions with the races shown on multiple screens. RAHILLYS ROUND-UP: Young and old were thrilled at the final whistle as their seniors have qualified for Kerry’s biggest football day for the first time in 13 years. They showed this by swarming onto the field to congratulate their heroes and now all thought turn to the final. The club was also delighted for Jack Savage who was deservedly named Player of the Match in a game where many stood out. The club will now be hoping to see their colours flying high for the coming two weeks. Santa has confirmed that he will be visiting the club on December 12th (will he get a picture with the Cup?). Places must be booked via WhatsApp to Shirley on 086 8713552. Neighbours and newcomers are welcome to book to see the Big Man. There was no winner of the Lotto from the numbers drawn 8,9,12 and 27 and the next jackpot will be e2,700. PARNELLS NEWS: The club is really looking forward to the Munster Junior Hurling Championship quarter final against Skeheenarinky from Tipperary as Austin Stacks Park this Saturday throwing in at 1.30pm. Tickets must be purchased on-line before the

game with free admission for u16’s. Hopefully a big crowd will come out to cheer on the team. The club was delighted with the success of the Debs and Evening Wear Fashion Show at the Ballyroe Heights Hotel. There was some wonderful fashion on show and the club members from the hurling and camogie sides looked very much at home on the catwalk. Guest speaker Mary O’Donnell of Radio Kerry gave some health and well-being tips at the interval. Well done to Maria Guthrie and Barry Hamilton who won the Best Dressed Competition. The club is delighted that Autism Friendly Tralee shared in the proceeds and also wants to thank its many sponsors. Social Hurling – Boys from u9’s to u15’s are welcome to meet on Saturday’s on the astro at the MTU Sports Academy for an hour of hurling. Supervised games start with the u9’s to 11s at 9am and u12’s to u15’s from 10am. COLLEGE UP-DATE: Well done to Mercy Mounthawk who defeated Colaiste Chriost Ri in the Corn Ui Mhuiri – the most prestigious of the Provinces school football competitions. The Tralee boys won 1-07 to 0-03 to qualify for the Munster quarter final for the first time in the school’s history. Tralee CBS The Green will also be in Munster quarter final action in midJanuary. Ghaelcholaiste Chiarrai will play Newcastlewest’s Scoil Mhuire is Ide in the next round of the Murphy Cup (u19 football). WARRIORS BACK TO WINNING WAYS: Garvey’s Tralee Warriors got back to winning ways in the InsureMyVan.ie Men’s Super League defeating Griffith College Templeogue 99-90. A flurry of threes in the first quarter from Daniel Jokubaitis, Fergal O’Sullivan, Keelan Crowe and Aaron Calixte were matched by the visitors in a cracking first quarter where a buzzer beater from Brandon Cotton saw the Warriors lead 25-22. Both sides battled hard in the second quarter but the Warriors finished the stronger with Jokubaitis making his third three of the night and Crowe his second to lead 54-48 at the half. After the restart the Warriors upped the intensity at both end of the court and over the next ten minutes gave themselves the platform to go on and win as they led 79-60 with the last ten minutes to play. Templeogue as expected fought hard but the Warriors had enough to wrap up an important win. Aaron Calixte led the scoring with 21 followed by Jokubaitis on 17 and the Irish squad member Eoin Quigley on 16. With Ireland playing this weekend the SuperLeague takes a break before the Cup quarter final sees Moycullen coming to the Sports Complex on December 4th with a 7.30pm tip-off. KABB NEWS: The action across all the divisions in the Kerry Airport Kerry Area Basketball League continued this week. From a Tralee point of view in the u18 Girls Division 1&2 Group B Tralee Imperials won 57-26 at Ballybunion. In the u14 Boys Division 2 Imperials went down away to St Mary’s. Tralee Tigers were big winners in the u16’s Boys Division 3 Group B defeating St Colman’s Lakers in Milltown. It’s the very early stages of the adult competitions with St Brendan’s and St Bridget’s drawing 36-36 each in the Senior Ladies Division 2B.

Call Chris or Colette Tel: 066-7126399 or e-mail : traleeadvertiser@gmail.com

ROWERS WIN MEDALS OFF THE WATER: At this time of the year rowers don’t usually get many days on the water – although this year the weather is much more benign than normal. Indoor rowing takes on an important role and the Tralee Rowing club certainly proved their prowess at this disciple last weekend in the Irish Indoor Rowing Championships at the UL Arena. The club returned home with seven medals. Two adults were on the podium with John Tuite taking first in the M50-54 1000m and Paula Moloney 3rd in the Ladies 40-49 2000m. Amy Darcy took a 1st and 3rd while Sean Morris, Conall MacThreinfiur and Alex Maritz all won silver. WINTER SWIMMING SERIES CONTINUES: Round 5 of the Winter Swimming The Turkey Series takes place with the last day to enter the Turkey Series being December 12th. The looked forward to raffle for the Christmas treats will take place on December 19th after the swim at 11.30am. To win a prize you must be there and have done a minimum of four of The Series swims to be in the draw. We wish the best of luck to all the Tralee Bay Swimming club members who are nominated for awards at the 13th Annual ILDSA Awards night this Saturday. PLACES IN THE SFAI NATIONAL CUP ROUND 4 UP FOR GRABS: It’s an Even’s weekend in the SFAI National Cups with Tralee Dynamos at home to Killorglin in Round 3. In the 14’s Tralee Dynamos are also in action as they go to Limerick to take on Aisling Annacotty B while the Geraldines versus St Brendan’s Park Round 3 game has been put back. RALLYING IN KILLARNEY: There will be lots of Tralee interest in the Rentokil Initial Historic Rally which takes place in Killarney this Saturday. The winners after the 6 stages are expected to be on the ramp at the Gleneagle around 3pm. CIARA BOWS OUT ON A HIGH: Tralee Rugby club paid tribute to Ciara Griffin who ended her career in green with a Player of the Match performance in the Irish Women’s win over Japan 15-12 where the Ballymac lady chipped in with two tries. The Tralee schoolteacher received an emotional farewell from the Irish fans in after the game. She has another big game this weekend when she lines out with the Barbarians this Saturday who take on South Africa in Twickenham. At the Tralee Rugby club the Ladies went down 20-10 to Galwegians while the J1 side drew 15-15 with Killorglin in the Munster Junior League. The J2 side lost out to Listowel in the North Munster Gleeson League B game 8-16. In the underage games the u14 boys defeated Castleisland 7-0. The u18.5 girls had a great 27-25 win away to Clonakilty but the u16 girls lost out to a strong Killarney side. The u16 boys enjoyed a 13-7 win at home to Newcastlewest. IRISH U18 BASKETBALL men’s head coach Paul Kelliher has named Aivaras Uosis (Tralee Imperials / Tralee Warriors / Pobalscoil Chorca Dhuibhne) and Brian O’Leary (St Brendan’s) on his squad who will now begin preparing for the 21/22 European Championships next summer.
